hope you feel better soon!
I am riddled with ailments, but I stay silly!
#ask#non mdzs#My health journey has been: Hernia -> acid reflux -> Vocal pain due to aforementioned reflux -> chest infection.#I'm terrified to know what's about to hit me next. Please let it be something kind. PLEASE.#The consequence of living with linguists is that you'll wake up with a wacked up voice -#suddenly you're sitting you down in front of a program called something like Praat having your shimmer and jitter levels calibrated.#They gave me a GRBAS of 33012. I have a fun thing called a pitch break where a whole octave just does not exist.#My vocal pain was bad enough I ended up seeing a speech pathologist and that whole experience was super neat!#I learnt a lot about voice - to be honest I might make a little comic on it after some more research. Fascinating stuff.#For example; your mental perception of our voice modulates the muscles of the vocal folds and larynx.#meaning that when you do have changes (inflammation = more mass = lower frequency)#your brain automatically attempts to correct it to what it 'should sound like'. Leading to a lot more vocal strain and damage!#And it gets really interesting for trans voice care as well - because the mental perception of one's voice isn't based on an existing sampl#So a good chunk of trans voice training is also done with the idea of finding one's voice and retraining the brain to accept it. Neat!#Parkinsonial Voice also has this perception to musculature link! The perception is that they are talking at a loud/normal volume#but the actual voice is quite breathy and weak. So vocal training works on practicing putting more effort into the voice#and retraining the brain to accept the 'loud' voice as 'normal'.#Isn't the human body fascinating?#Anyhow; Now I have vocal exercises and strategies to reduce strain and promote healing.#Which is a lot better than my previous strategy of yelling AAAH in my car until my 'voice smoothed out'.#You can imagine the horror on the speech path's face. I am an informed creature now.#I'm my own little lab rat now. I love learning and researching. Welcome to my tag lab. Class is dismissed.#I'll be back later with a few more answered asks </3 despite everything I'm still going to work and I need the extra sleep.#Thank you for the well wishes! And if you read all of that info dump; thank you for that as well!

I know that was a shitpost for the latest Danny Phantom fandom meme, but I'm genuinely impressed and how authentic it sounds. How much of Dash's monologue is real advice, and how do you know all of that? Do you work out?
Yes I'm so sorry to inform my good people of Tumblr that I've secretly been a part of the gym fandom for all this time. I've only recently come out as a gymbro in this phandom via my creation of the current dp gym bro au meme that I've forced upon everyone in this good holy christian space. I mix whey protein into my overnight oats, I track my macros, and I have a closet full of Gym Girlie Outfits™️.
And just know it's a badge of honor that I carry to be able to say I've converted multiple members of the Danny Phantom phandom into regular gym goers as well 💪
#all jokes aside i grew up in a very athletic family#where talking about things like gym routines and protein tracking was very normal#i worked as a tennis coach for a few years before i was injured (by my own hubris) and was forced to quit#i've been rebuilding my body basically from like the ground floor since the injury#and while at first it was frustrating cuz i had to learn how to do things i'd always been able to do before#(and yes i did cry on my yoga mat more than one time in the beginning)#now i'm learning to have fun with it!#im still very weak compared to where i once was#and it doesn't help that i was set back by other injuries that came from not taking care of myself like a bad knee#but slowlyyyy i'm getting there#i once thought i'd never be able to do an unassisted pull up again#and now i can see it within my reach!#very exciting#i love love loveeeee being strong#Also yes it's real advice to train the 'minor' muscles#for example a lot of lower back pain comes from a weak glute medius#ppl be focusing on the glute max cuz it's the big one and forget about the other glutes#compound exercises are a great way to hit multiple muscles at once

Sleep deprived to the point of giving myself chest pain (literal) and raw emotions (figurative). So how do I spend my Friday night? Collecting stats for the tournament blog while watching copaganda? Read a book cover to cover while enjoying the evening breeze? Or scroll through two days worth of my tumblr dash on my phone while lying on the cement porch outside (what I'm currently doing)?
#I haven't done my physical exercises in fucking months and that is soooooo obvious right now.#I lie down like a jack knife in bed and I lie down like a bug in the bath but this lower back stretch from lying down on flatish pavement#is kinda painful. Fuck.#personal#learning to function#I should go back inside and eat so that I can get the clock ticking on when I can go to bed.#Was that a raindrop in my cheek?

it's wild what a difference just a little bit of extra exercise every day does for how you feel :3 especially high intensity exercise where you sweat and your pulse goes up. I'm trying to climb up and down the stairs for a little bit every day (I'm at 15 minutes, and I'm lengthening the exercise little by little until I'm at half an hour maybe) and it's cool how much progress I've made in just a few days. and my lower back isn't killing me anymore, yippeee
#personal#i chose the stairs because i learned climbing up a hill/stairs is good for the lower back#and because they're right there. i can just leave our apartment then do the stairs and then get right back home and shower#idk if there are gonna be any awkward encounters with the neighbors. but if they ask i can just tell them im exercising

fatphobia & hereditary heart disease fears will have me warning my dr that being sleep deprived and inactive lately bc of health stuff will surely have raised my blood pressure
then she takes it and it's fucking 110/70, literally perfect.
#this is not a brag it's abt how even though i'm Angry About Fatphobia and Will Kill People With My Mind for this shit#i STILL have moments like this#also me compulsively paying attention to my pulse/heart rate being like Is It Too High?#~i'm so out of shape i need to exercise more even though exercise would literally destroy my whole body#yada yada yada#like in hs i was really fit AND STILL FAT but i was SO self conscious bc a couple times a year in PE#(which i took all four years of hs by choice)#we had to do health checks which included calculating our BMI--humililating and INFURIATING#and we ALSO had to check our pulses/heart rates#i would fudge my number lower bc i was so embarrassed to be so active and feeling FINE#but have SUCH a high heart rate#in all honesty it really wasn't that fucking high#i have a resting heart rate on like the mid-to-high end of normal in the 80s i think#AND FUCKING YET. I AM SO INSECURE AND WORRIED ABT THIS SHIT#also rheum ordered an echocardiogram for me last year to check some shit out#it came back perfectly fucking normal but i was so worried they'd be like You Are Dying

Do this to get relief from lower and upper back pain #backexercise #uppe...
What are the causes of back pain?
There are many different causes of back pain, including:
Injury: Back pain can be caused by a sudden injury, such as a fall or a car accident.
Poor posture: Poor posture can put strain on your back muscles and ligaments, which can lead to pain.
Muscle weakness: Weak back muscles can't support your spine properly, which can lead to pain.
Arthritis: Arthritis can cause inflammation and pain in the joints of your spine.
Disc problems: The discs in your spine act as cushions between the vertebrae. If a disc becomes damaged, it can cause pain.
Spinal stenosis: Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal, which can put pressure on the nerves in your spine and cause pain.
How to prevent back pain?
There are many things you can do to prevent back pain, including:
Exercise regularly: Exercise helps to strengthen your back muscles and improve your posture, which can help to prevent back pain.
Maintain good posture: Good posture helps to reduce the strain on your back muscles.
Lift with your legs: When you lift something heavy, use your legs to do the work, not your back.
Avoid sitting for long periods of time: If you have to sit for long periods of time, get up and move around every 20 minutes or so.

need to be put in the machine that twists your bones and muscles into symmetrical and healthy positions
#a side effect of riding a motorbike is that all the muscles in my left leg get more exercise than my right#because the gear shift pedal is on the left and i'm constantly moving my left foot up and down#while my right foot is only pressing down on the brake when i'm braking#and also they teach you to always come to a stop with your left foot on the ground so i'm also getting more exercise from that#all of this means that my posture has shifted over the years and become lopsided in ways that plague my right hip and lower back#and on top of this is a similar problem with the constantly-used clutch being at the left hand#and the less-frequently-used front wheel brake being at the right hand#meaning my left hand arm and back muscles are also much more exercised than my right#because you hardly ever squeeze the front brake as suddenly and firmly as the clutch unless you wanna go over the handlebars#i'm like fucking two face or some shit itcs ridiculous and irritating#if i could just replace the right half of my body with a reflection of the left half i'd be golden >:(

not the first or last time I’ll visit this topic but taking physical skill-type classes sucks so much less as an adult where I’m allowed to say “hey doing X hurts, is that bad and if so can you help me adjust it or give me something else to do”
#doing hollow hold/leg lift type lower core exercises make my lower back feel Awful and always have#bc my legs are Long and Heavy and I have a bad habit of using my back muscles to compensate#child me was told to suck it up for actual years#adult me got the instructor to look for 30 seconds and got told how to reposition to prevent it while still building strength#idk i have a lot of feelings about how certain children’s athletics enterprises (gymnastics) teach to weed out#rather than teaching adaptively#complaining

hate when the things I've convinced myself are just excuses turn out to be real issues after all
#in other news I'm TRYING to follow this workout plan but ough ah my lower back#ooh yikes my knees#for serious though like. it should be that I have to stop because the actual muscle group I'm trying to work gets tired right???? right????#not because my back starts to Feel Bad before anything else#anyway I was like oh well maybe I just need to strengthen the muscles there in my back/core and stuff so this is good and helpful#but hmm maybe pushing through it is not the answer because now it still Feels Bad in a way that does not feel like muscle soreness yk#and I don't think it's a form issue because it's a problem for me with various otherwise unrelated exercises#(also how does anyone do enough squats-adjacent stuff to actually make a difference without taking video-game style damage to their knees??#asking for a friend

idk what happened last year, but I only went swimming once and that was in june so guess what I'm doing today
#life stuff#swimming is on top of the list of things that fix me. it's the closest i get to meditation. you'd think i'd do it regularly#especially considering i'm actively trying to lose weight and this is my only form of exercise?#(i have lost weight and idk how. i guess i've been walking regularly what with going to my activity three times a week.)#(possibly also eating less sweets? and choosing lower fat dairy products? idk)#anyway i should try swimming more while i can#once i get top surgery i'll probably take a while to get back to it depending on healing and how i feel about my body and stuff

Back home.
Large clingy cats have been showering me with purring affection and refusing to let me get up.
Super behind on all online stuff bc I was mostly radio silent since last Sunday.
Lots of relaxation was had.
More later (here & DW).
Today & tomorrow are a mix of laundry emergency, food shopping, and various weekend chores.
#also: seeing my massage therapist tomorrow#to unfuck my lower back#as yoga-like PT exercises can only do so much
