Hear me out hear me out hear me out—

Steve’s parents aren’t just always on business trips. That’s just what he tells people. The actuality of the situation is that Steve’s parents sent him to Hawkins freshman year of high school to “teach him a lesson” (or smth idk) and Steve just never left.

That’s why Steve has no problem changing the rooms in the house, or adjusting/changing things. Because he’s the only one who actually lives there. But in s1-2 it’s his parents who are paying for the house so Steve can stay in Hawkins. Cause— y’know— his parents want nothing to do with him and him being in Hawkins keeps him away.

Now this opens up a bit more possibility for those adoption/roommate AUs. Like Steve sharing the house with Max and Eddie and Wayne after s4. Or him letting Dustin just casually spend weeks over there when Claudia’s out on business trips or is working a late shift and Dustin doesn’t want to be alone.

My favorite headcannon is that Steve’s converted most of the guest rooms into personal rooms for everyone. Mike, Will, Lucas, and Dustin all share a room. El and Max have a room. Robin has a room. Hell even Jonathan and Nancy have a room. And each room is customized for the individuals.

I’m not gonna lie to y’all, Will being gay and in love with Mike WAS a plot twist to me back when I was a GA last year. Will was (and still is) my favourite character but I didn’t pay much attention to anything besides the supernatural plot. I didn’t notice any queer coding, I never saw any clues because I just didn’t realise that’s where the writers were going with their story. I didn’t think about it at all until Will lowkey rejected that girl in his class. Even then I just thought nothing of it, just that he probably didn’t like her like that. All I thought of Mileven was that they were supposed to be that relatable teenage relationship you were in for like a few months or whatever bc it was fun, I totally didn’t think anyone was ever meant to take them seriously — I thought their relationship was some comedic relief or something after S3

And looking back, it was so obvious I just didn’t pay attention to it all because it’s not what I watched Stranger Things for. After I realised Will had feelings for Mike, it’s like everything between them finally clicked and I realised why they were always fighting over their friendship and why Mike was always staring at Will and I realised all those close ups of Will staring back at Mike in S4 wasn’t just worry, it was pining. And then Mike was doing it back and then all of Mike’s staring at Will from past seasons clicked in my brain as pining too

After all these little bits of information all came together in my head, I actually thought it was like some mutual understanding that Mike obviously felt the same about Will otherwise they had no reason to direct or write this plot into the story. So I finished ST just casually thinking that yeah, Mike and Will would work out their feelings together next season

It wasn’t until I accidentally came across some youtube recommendation about “why Mike wheeler is gay” monthssss later that I found out not everyone believes in Mike and Will being endgame. Before that I just thought it was a given, just like how I was surprised to find out Jancy was also being doubted by people. For me, even as a GA who was definitely media illiterate, I just assumed Mike and Will were endgame and Jancy was undoubtedly endgame

Then one video lead to another and I learned the ship name and I made a tumblr and now suddenly I’m not GA and I believe more than ever that those two are both equally in love and El doesn’t need Mike

Hear Me Out:

No Upside Down AU where after the s1 fight-and-apologize Steve has with Jonathan and Nancy, he picks up a part time job at the arcade after school.

It’s there that he meets the kids and the kids meet him.

Like yeah Steve knew about the kids and the kids knew about Steve from Nancy, but this is their first time interacting outside of awkward waves and nods.

And Steve decided that he hates them. Especially that Mike kid— he’s an asshole.

Will might be the slightest exception, but he’s really quiet and throws Steve off (much like Jonathan).

Until one day when Steve is taking his break and having a smoke outside the back of the arcade and runs into the kids getting pushed around by Troy and James.

It’s after that interaction that Steve quietly accepts that Oh Shit These Kids Are His Now.

Then Max comes along and El finally gets the OK to walk around Hawkins (with supervision and never on her own, obviously). And Steve just kind of adds them to his list of Protect At All Costs— no matter how much Max insists on pissing him off.

It’s basically a found family slow burn with Steve and the Kids :)

GIMMIE THE FUTURE MIKE HCS I BEG

oh boy here we go time to dig through my adopted oc's lore

The first thing you notice about post-coming-of-age Mike is that he holds his face a lot more softly. The teenage angst has burned away and revealed the tender, affectionate (and sometimes vaguely sad) core it was protecting. Make no mistake, the judgy bitch will still come out if the situation calls for it, but he no longer approaches every social interaction assuming the other person is going to hate him. Turns out he can actually be pretty charismatic when he doesn't feel the need to be a dick in preemptive self-defense.

The low self-esteem never completely goes away but it does diminish to the point where he can occasionally believe people actually like him and maybe he deserves to be happy. He even gets to the place where he can accept most compliments, except if you specifically imply he is either kind or attractive, which he will reflexively scoff at. The two things he can never truly believe about himself 😔. El finds this endlessly frustrating ofc.

During high school, Mike is the first one to get a car (birthday present from his rich parents) so it becomes his job to carpool everyone to school, as well as drive El anywhere she wants to go at any time. idk anything about cars but its black and pretty nice (Karen is absolutely treating her kids after they almost died in a monster war) and Mike lowkey mostly agrees to favors because he likes driving it around so much.

Actually no one else but Lucas gets a car bc why go through the hassle when you can just barge into Wheeler residence at any time and guilt Mike into driving you. He does have a driving toll however, and that is maintaining full control of the stereo, which he uses to blast hair metal.

(El fucking hates hair metal but she's too nice to admit that to Mike, who eventually figures that out on his own after seeing her visibly tense up whenever he plays it. She never fully admits to hating it but she also doesn't really deny it when he says that she obviously does. This also applies to 90's Mike getting into grunge)

The only reason El graduates high school is because Mike absolutely insists that she can and acts as her personal (unrelenting) tutor for the last half of 12th grade (love her but she's really not good at school), despite her best efforts to persuade him to just let her give up because "Did you know that you can legally drop out of school at 18?" ("Yes, but having a GED is really important if you want any opportunities in life." "…See I don't even know what that is." ":/") Luckily, Mike is a talented and very passionate Explainer of Things and took all the classes she's in last year (he's in AP classes now obv) so it all works out, though after she passes her last final she makes him swear to never ask her another math problem again.

After high school he tries to go to college for writing but ends up mysteriously losing the ability to focus on anything or be creative, which causes him to not do any assignments so he starts avoiding going to class out of shame. He rationalizes this as him being tired of school and not needing to go to school for a creative endeavor anyway haha (true), and he ends up dropping out. (Unfortunately, this is just the start of the college/post-college plot line, which is the gang all getting hit full force with the ptsd induced by the Everything upon entering adulthood but uh we don't have to get into that here hehe)

After (attempting) college, Mike and El (who get married at 18 ofc) move to Chicago and Mike gets a boring job as an editor or something just as an attempt to get a career going, but soon quits that as well bc if you're keeping up with the lore you'll remember that El is getting paid restitution by the government so neither of them actually have to work and he really doesn't like working a boring job just to attempt getting a career going. He then spends the next few years working ("working" sometimes) on personal projects, the main one being a sci-fi novel and, eventually, dming at a local game shop, where he becomes a bit of a local geek celebrity for his excellent dming skills and being a generally cool guy. His original campaigns and one-shots are particularly popular, and people keep suggesting that he start distributing them or maybe even sending something to TSR? Hmmm... not something Mike ever thought about doing but he does have the easiest time and most fun coming up with dnd stuff...no way that could be a real career path could it...hmm.....

Seriously tho Mike is like a master dm. You can ask him any obscure question about anything in the game and he can answer instantly with perfect accuracy. And like any passionate gamer he has many Opinions about the editions and a whole set of house rules he runs his games by.

I wasn't originally going to have him and El have kids but then I imagined Mike telling interactive bedtime stories to his 5-year-old daughter and idk man I think that has to exist. Its not until they're like early 30's tho. Also her name is Ava.

mike stood stiff infront of you, lopsided smile on his lips with his arms extended out, in his hands holding out your favorite flowers that were all bundled together and neatly tied with a little ribbon, a small tag on it saying where its from that he mustve forgotten to rip off. hes heard you mention your favorite type before, so why not get you some? he stared intently at your reaction, looking for any type of disgust or discomfort in your eyes, analyzing to the point it couldve came off as creepy, but he didnt want his gift to be hated or something! after much awkward silence that felt like hours—realistically being less then a minute, but he was impatient—, he noticed you return a more heartfelt smile that made his stomach churn with a feeling he just couldnt describe. you grabbed the flowers from his sweaty palms that left the plants green slightly moist. he chuckled, quickly returning his arms back to his side—not before wiping his hands on his jeans to try to wipe away the gross sweat that had gathered just at the thought of you.

mike grinned softly, looking at the first pair of flowers he had ever gotten you before you two started dating, the tag he had left on it originally now taken off thankfully. it was in a gorgeous vase that was a mix of blue, his favorite color, and your favorite color. they had grown beautifully with the proper care. he let his eyes gaze away from the pot of flowers, sunshine rays shining brightly onto them, making eye contact with you. his eyes sparkled with joy and crinkled due to his smile, black hair a little frizzed but overall handsome on him, and his skin was as beautifully pale as ever– if that was a compliment.

"you kept them?" he questioned quietly, not wanting to break the adoring peace between you and him.

"why wouldnt i have?" you responded back, earning a playful eye roll from him before getting abruptly pulled to his side, or atleast, more than you already were. his hand rested comfortably over the fabric of your clothing, just on the mid-torso to be respectful. he giggled, giving your body a loving squeeze.

"love you, pretty," he said as charmingly as possible– of course it was as charming as he wouldve wanted, why wouldnt it have been?

boris was a troublemaker, of course. that bit was obvious– he was probably on drunk and high everyday to be honest. but falling in love? with theo, he was already kinda in love with him. it made him sick to his stomach. loving was never really his.. thing. liking one person was enough, but two?? he was being driven into insanity at this point trying to choose who he... 'truly loved' or whatever fairytales say. he never really read books, how would he know? each night after he either left yours or theos house or after the two of you left, he was left grumbling to himself in the dead silence of his house. was loving someone really this hard? this is so tedious! and dumb!

today was just another day, drinking vodka straight from the bottle at your house, sat up at the front of your mattress, theo at his side whilst you were tidying up your room– not something you did often. having guests over though, your parental guardian had insisted to clean your room. boris stared blankly at you as he took the vodka away from his mouth, glancing over at theo for a second and handing the alcohol to him before looking back at you. he caught the small smile of theos mouth just before turning away ... that dumb smile.

"just sit down. thought you dislike cleaning?" boris questioned in that broken english. he was still learning.

"i do but im forced to clean it each time you guys come over," you huffed.

boris hummed, not even giving you a second to respond before you were yanked to sit next to him, bed leaning down at the new weight on it. you side eyed him for a moment, feeling his hand linger on your wrist he had originally pulled you by before letting you go, instead throwing his arm around your shoulder and pulling you close, keeping it touchy as always. you narrowed your eyes at him for a moment before just shrugging. you supposed you could just clean it later.

"alright, alright. i will join you and 'potter'." you sassily remarked. boris rolled his eyes, looking over at theo who had placed the vodka down by now. he stared for a moment before just pulling him close aswell, two of his favorite people by his side.

bruises. literally everywhere. boris was a cuddly man, that was a given, but he really did love just digging his fingers into your skin to the point it gave literal MARKS. you didnt mind to much, thinking it was sweet. he had good intentions of course!! arms wrapped around your waist, you were tightly pressed against boris' body, somehow managing to be comfortable. sure, you were gonna just get even more marks, but it was a casual thing by now. plus, atleast boris was happy– alot happier than before, thats for sure. previously, he and his father had a little ... squabble, lets say.

"bad parenting." boris had mumbled, breaking the silence.
