stranger things summer headcanons because tis the season

mike is that stubborn idiot who halfway gets heatstroke from wearing twelve layers of clothing in the 90 degree heat.

lucas and max are carnival CHAMPIONS. they go on all the rides, eat all the cotton candy. once they’re in there, they won’t leave until it closes for the night.

will really likes swimming. however, he prefers the lake over the pool, because it’s less crowded. he ends up teaching swimming lessons to all the toddlers over break, and mothers love him to death for how gentle he is.

dustin and erica have a weekly tradition of loitering around family video on saturdays. it’s one of their busiest days, so their annoyance has put (the very prone to distraction) robin and steve’s job’s in jeopardy too many times. keith watches them with a very keen eye, once proclaiming to dustin that he’ll have his head if there’s any further funny business.

at the beginning of the warmer months, max likes to get an extremely short haircut to avoid the heat.

mike’s incessant boredom always has him picking up new hobbies, or enhancing the ones he has over the summer. he’ll learn to make friendship bracelets, or to skateboard with max’s spare (on the off chance she lets him), or write half a novel.

el became a daily patron of their local ice cream store the very second that max explained to her what a waffle cone was.

lucas once caught dustin watching my little pony with his sister, and while his confusion and nonstop laughter was prominent at first, he was very quickly thrown into the viewing. the three now meet up as often as they can to watch together.

mike works at the movie theatre, partly for the money, but mostly because he likes knowing first which new horror and fantasy movies are coming to hawkins. his vast knowledge delights will, and improves their movie visits together.

erica built a treehouse a little ways away from her house, which is the frequent location of midnight ghost stories galore with her friends.

the byers’ yard is vast and empty, the perfect location for bonfires. whenever possible, the whole party bands together to throw a bonfire bash, complete with jonathan’s killer smore’s.

while dustin goes to camp know where in june, lucas attends a basketball camp. there, his investment in the game grows, and he’s able to make a ton of friends who show him awesome tricks and techniques.

Lumax headcanons?

Lucas loves painting but Max sucks at it, but still he keeps poking her to paint with him and she pretends she hates it when she doesn't because spending time with him or El is her favorite hobby anyway, however Lucas always needs to be the one to clean up after they're done

Lucas braids Max's hair

Max loves Spicy food whereas Lucas can't tolerate even a bit of it, he loves desserts though

They read comics and watch sports together

Max is the little spoon most times but whenever anybody asks the title goes to Lucas by default

Erica, Max and Lucas often go to hang out together, it basically becomes a date with Lucas being the third wheel.

Both of them paint each other's nails, Lucas cleans it off almost instantly, not because he thinks it looks bad, but because it's just not his taste, he did it so max could practice on him where on the other hand Max tries to keep them as long as possible because it's beautiful

They have deep conversations till dawn

They bake together, Max loves it when Erica is involved

Lucas 10/10 cries on their wedding day (in the far future not when they're young just so yk lol) and Max has a hard time acting she's chill because she too wants to cry, she just loves Lucas sm, however she can't hold back her tears anymore during the vows

The first time I heard Castles Crumbling I immediately thought of “King Steve” and Steve’s quiet identity crisis. Steve has undergone this simultaneously tragic and liberating fall from grace. He constantly wants to show people that he’s good and valuable despite him not claiming the title he once had. He’s burned bridges with Tommy and Carol and everyone from the part of his life he’s no longer proud of. While personally he may be fulfilled with his new life he is aware that he is perceived as a failure. He had the entire world gift wrapped for him and still found a way to tear it all down. 

Nancy Wheeler & Jonathan Byers - Mine

Mine is their song! It’s Nancy and Jonathan at their best. Especially in the early seasons both of them are very emotionally guarded but learn to open up to each other. In season 1 they both talk about not wanting to become their parents, wanting to stop the cycle of resentment and conventionality. Their relationship is almost defined by hardship, growing more intimate and personal the more they take on together. In their relationship it's them against the world especially because they are an unconventional pairing. They both have insecurities and baggage but ultimately they are there for each other and are better people for it (You can pry Jancy out my cold, dead hands). 

Max Mayfield & Lucas Sinclair - Last Kiss

This song can be read as two sided but I primarily see it from Lucas’ perspective, particularly in the time of his and Max’s breakup. This song is about being crushed by the sudden end of relationship while still having allegiance to the person that left. Lucas is very compassionate and still worried about Max ever after their breakup. He didn’t care if she ever was with him again, only that she was safe and happy again. On Max’s side it crushes her to keep the distance between them and she’s haunted by the memories of their love and the sheer fact that Lucas is a good person who still loves her. They both wonder how much of the others life they missed and if things could’ve been different.

Nancy Wheeler & Steve Harrington - Back to December

"So this is me swallowin' my pride Standin' in front of you sayin' I'm sorry for that night And I go back to December all the time It turns out freedom ain't nothin' but missin' you Wishin' I'd realized what I had when you were mine I'd go back to December, turn around and make it alright I go back to December all the time"

While I am not a fan of the weird Stancy revival plot in season 4, this song really captures Steve's feelings towards Nancy. He deeply regrets the person he was when they were together and tells her that he didn't know what he had when he had it. She fundamentally changed him (which is why we should ALL be thanking Nancy for creating the Steve we know and love), and Steve wishes he could redo their relationship. The last line could also reflect Nancy's potential guilt about the way their relationship ended and her inability to reciprocate Steve's love because of her trauma and Barb's death. Also "I'm sorry for that night" is the night of the Halloween party. I don't make the rules. (Also Also Steve and Nancy dated for A YEAR that is so unfathomable to me :I)

El Hopper & Mike Wheeler & Will Byers - Superman

Superman can be interpreted from three different perspectives. Mike to El,  El to Mike, and Will to Mike. In season 4 Mike reaffirms his love for El by saying that she is his superhero. Her strength is the thing that he admires most about her and he is constantly in awe at her power. The line “I’ve loved you from the very first day” parallels Mike saying that he loved her from the moment he saw her. He even voices his insecurities about her leaving him behind once she realizes that he’s not anything special.

El has the complete opposite perspective, seeing herself as the unworthy one. Because Mike is the first person who ever extended kindness to El, she believes that he is the best person alive and is incredibly lucky to have him. El and Mike see the other as their Superman. 

From Will’s perspective Mike is his Superman. He is the leader, the heart, the paladin, and the great hero. He idolizes Mike in way which is why is rejection hurts so much. He wishes the cards were from Mike. That Mike knew how much Will reveres him. In his case, “I’ve loved you from the very first day” could be about the first day he and Mike met in kindergarten.

Will Byers & Mike Wheeler - Foolish One

The accuracy of this one hurts. I think the lyrics are self explanatory but the song reflects the anguish Will feels over Mike’s friendship and love slipping away.

Joyce Byers & Jim Hopper - Timeless

Timeless is an affirmation that no matter how many times they are separated and torn apart, Joyce and Hopper will find each other. It's also about them wanting to stop dealing with interdimensional threats to their families and have a normal life together and live to see the other get old.

he’s always been a great runner, he and will had races to see who was the fastest, lucas won them every time.

after s4, he thought about taking track since basketball was a bust.

he has pretty good stamina, he’s looked up to florence griffin joyner aka Flo-Jo. (he cried for days when she died)

he goes on 5am runs around the neighborhood.

the party would definitely question why he’d want to even do track (because they don’t pay attention to my boy 😔)

erica would voluntarily come to every track meet just to yell at the people who underestimate her big brother.

it’s given him some pretty nice calfs.

his family are the loudest during his runs, they’ve embarrassed him multiple times but lucas has paid no attention.

when people asked him which track star he looked up to, he’d say flo and their first response would be “a girl?” 🤨

he’d usually get 2nd or 3rd but sometimes, he’d get lucky and make it to 1st.

THEME: How the characters deal with your flirtations (friendship stage)

CHARACTERS INCLUDED: mike wheeler, will byers, jane hopper, lucas sinclair, dustin henderson, maxine mayfield, billy hargrove, steve harrington, nancy wheeler, joyce byers, jim hopper, dmitri antonov, eddie munson, jonathan byers.

READER: male reader with a sarcastic, flirty, witty and a slightly cynical personality.

Mike Wheeler;

- dude is either OVER it or does not catch on at all.

- like seriously, your touches would linger for a bit too long and he'd think “oh, that's weird. whatever.”

- you mess up his hair every chance you get and he goes livid.

- “don't touch my hair, man!” is what he'd say and in return you'd just mock him. then a 'playful' fight ensues. he has ruined like five of your shirts now, accidentally tearing it while fighting.

- whenever you say something flirty or out of pocket, you would get two different reactions. The most common one being “ha ha. very funny.” with a sarcastic smile. and the other one.. god, he would just stare at you with a concerned look on his face, not even saying anything.

- for a little while, Mike just stayed oblivious to your 'advances', per say.

- you would do stupid dirty shit behind mike's back when the party's attention was on you just to get some laughs from them. it always worked but it ended up with mike scolding the shit out of you and calling you different names.

- one time at a random party, you invited Mike to dance. He disagreed, of course, and brushed you off with a laugh, but for a moment he almost said yes. Which was very weird for him. Dude was borderline panicking.

- you would call him “mikey” just to piss him off and he hated that nickname with a passion.

- “Mikey-” you'd start, and mike would immediately interrupt you with “get the fuck out of my house. Like right now.” with a blank look on his face while aggressively pointing to the stairs.

Will Byers;

- consider the dude dead. anytime you flirt.

- yeah he's a little slow but when he gets what you meant he goes red in the face.

- like he's blushing so furiously that even the tips of his ears are turning pink.

- he starts fidgeting with his fingers and blinking more profusely, as if that'd help anything.

- “will, you're sleeping with me, right?” you asked once, at a sleepover. He paused. “ay, I'm not opposed to whatever you're thinking but I meant you're sleeping in my room?” you cleared up.

- Oh. oh. “Yeah- yep, I'm sleeping- in your room, yeah.” he responded after swallowing hard. Lucas laughed so hard he started crying.

- he's a sucker for physical contact, truly, so whenever you'd press up against him, or your hands would brush, literally any physicality and he's tensed up, his heart beating out of his chest. It's not that he likes you, but your flirting certainly fucks with his mind. He's not that dense.

- due to your flirty personality, most of the time he would avoid eye contact with you. Because any time your gazes met, you'd wink. And it wasn't that big of a deal, truly, but Will just couldn't help it, it made his breath hitch ever so slightly.

Jane Hopper;

- oh lord. most of the time, she doesn't get it. she just smiles and nods.

- you think it's funny how oblivious she is, it is stupid but hella adorable.

- when it is explained to her, she barely has a reaction to it.

- so in conclusion, she doesn't even answer you. Unless you talk to her about it. But that is literally it. She doesn't deal with your flirtations, you have to deal with her obliviousness.

Lucas Sinclair;

- dude laughs it off when you first start flirting with him. Then he gradually becomes more and more concerned.

- he takes it pretty seriously. But he doesn't care that much, mostly because it doesn't bother him nor does it make him uncomfortable.

- immediately assumed you were into men when you made a slightly over the top joke (not that it was wrong).

- told dustin, will and mike what he thinks. they didn't believe him. Like at all.

- next time you said something flirtatious to Lucas, he didn't waste a second looking over at the others.. who seemed to have taken your flirting as a joke, something you'd say between buddies, you know?

- so after a long long long contemplation, Lucas abruptly asked “are you into dudes?”...

- everyone went dead silent.

- you answered after a beat. “..wasn't that like.. obvious?”

- “WHAT?!”

Dustin Henderson;

- HE FLIRTS BACK.

- you flirt, sure, you give it a hundred percent. Dustin, though? Dude gives it his ALL. Everything and anything he has.

- he sends you air kisses, he loves physical contact, he loves giving gifts (and receiving them), he loves talking. To make it short, he's love in human form.

- any time you guys have playful banter it turns into heavy flirting. Also, you two express appreciation by flirting, too.

- “don't make me kiss you, henderson.”, “dude,” he paused to put on chapstick. After he did, he turned his focus back on you. “i'm ready, kiss me.” he'd say.

- of course, others would whine and complain about it. Especially Steve, god he hated when you two acted like that.

- “i think my ears are bleeding,” would be Steve's response.

- at one point, you and Dustin had a wedding.. a platonic one, but a wedding nonetheless. He's never been happier that he got to be the wife.

- all jokes aside, you always expressed physical affection to Dustin because you knew that he'd be more than willing to receive it. Hugs, forehead kisses, simple gentle gestures, head pats, shoulder pats, etc. etc.

Maxine Mayfield;

- you low-key think she's scary but shoot your shots nonetheless.

- albeit, they're always met with frustrated silence, sarcasm or judgy glances.

- she acts like she hates it. Yeah, sometimes it truly pisses her off if she's in a bad mood and her social battery is low, but other than that, she kinda enjoys the attention from you.

- she actually liked you since she met you. not like.. actually like you, but you seemed nice, you seemed to have an understanding others lacked.

- she catches onto every single flirtatious remark you make. Every. Single. One.

- if you say something she doesn't like at all, she hits you in the back of the head, flicks your forehead or punches you in the shoulder. Fuck, her flicks are deadly.

- “can I braid your hair?” was a question you asked once. Max just turned to look at you with a soft smile. “Fuck no.”

- “oh-”

- physical contact is not her strong suit. Of course, she loves it, but not every time. It also depends on how she's feeling. A thing she can never get tired of though is quality time. You could spend days with her and she wouldn't mind at all. As long as you don't bother her too much.

Billy Hargrove;

- the moment you open your mouth around him, you're playing with fire. Seriously. You don't know what is gonna set him off.

- fucking hates it. hates it hates it hates it.

- to say that he's your friend is.. an overstatement. He just tolerates your presence. Does not like when you say stupid shit.

- “you've got such a pretty face.” you complimented him once.

“i'm gonna beat the fucking shit out of you.”

“ohhh-kay.”

- would laugh it off but he knows you're into guys. he done seen it from a mile away bro 😭 gaydar strong as shit.

- was a bit bothered by you liking guys at first, though over a span of a damn week he couldn't be bothered enough to care.

- says he hates when you're around him but has spent more time with you than with anyone else.

- he's gotten too used to being around you.

- “where are we going?” you asked from the passenger seat of his car.

“a date, are you fucking-” he paused, blinking a couple of times. “my date.” he pulled over almost immediately, in a heart beat. “get out of the damn car.”

“you just-” you stammered for a moment. “good luck on your date.” you said in an encouraging tone, feeling defeated as you got out of the car, not even knowing where you are.

“don't need it.” he said bitterly as he drove off. Well, okay.

Steve Harrington;

- either laughs or gets flustered (doesn't show it).

- mocks you so much in return.

- DEFLECTS your compliments with mean comments like crazy.

- “ya look good today, Steve.”

“Couldn't say the same about you. Jesus, have you looked in the mirror this morning?” he said with a concerned smile.

- cheeky little shit. he'd jump in traffic if it meant he'd avoid saying a simple 'thank you' to your compliments.

- he thinks you don't know that your flirting affects him. it's way too obvious. dude's hands get clammy, unclenching and clenching his fists, rubbing his hands on his pants or his stance shifting after a compliment. the signs are subtle, sure, but not invisible.

- the tension between you two is CRAZY. yeah he gets flustered if you say something out of pocket but he's not scared to hold eye contact. I mean, if you're not looking. if you are, he's not sparing a damn glance your way.

- CHECKS YOU OUT SO MUCH. AND FOR NO REASON. dude's a natural flirt.

- he has flirted back like a total of 5 times. otherwise he'd just brush you off fr.

Nancy Wheeler;

- SOMEBODY GET THE DAMN AMBULANCE.

- if she likes you and your vibe, she flirts back. SHE FLIRTS FIRST MORE.

- you thought you'd get her flustered? Nah, she's giving you signs dude.

- she'd make 'accidental' physical contact with you, like gently brushing her hand against yours and shit like that. just to tease you.

- shameless with her flirting. Seriously. She doesn't say much in front of others but if you're alone you can't catch a break.

- she'd speak a sentence that has a clear implication of something dirty and then when you ask her about it, she'd give it another meaning.

- eye contact eye contact eye contact, she loves it

- one time, the two of you were hanging out in your room. You were going to a wedding tomorrow, and Nancy knew that.

“fuck, I don't have any nice clothes. What do I wear for tomorrow?” You asked her, hoping for some advice.

“i'd rather you wear.. nothing.” she said mindlessly, flipping through a book.

“what, you asked me, I answered.” She said with a small chuckle.

Joyce Byers;

- she catches onto your flirting but she overthinks it and eventually comes to the conclusion that you're just being friendly.

- a good thing about your flirting is that it would lighten her mood if she's upset or deep in thought.

- she jokes back at your flirting but immediately regrets it, thinking she sounded stupid

- she loves when you wrap an arm around her shoulders, it gives her a sense of security. Some sort of it, anyway. Always gives you a small slightly awkward smile when you initiate physical contact with her, too.

- so afraid of being misled that even when you sent her flowers, a huge bouquet of it, she thought it was a friendly gesture, again. Jonathan and Will argued with her about it.

- is finally convinced that you're into her when you wink at her across the room, being discreet.

- no seriously, all of that and the only time she thinks you're into her when you're winking at her. Not when you're openly flirting with her or sending her gifts..

Jim Hopper;

- DOESN'T EVEN LOOK AT YOU.

- everyone at the police department knew you flirted with Jim. But due to him ignoring you constantly, you gave your pick up lines to his co-workers, and made them say the cheesy words to him. Ended them with a 'yours truly, [Name]'. Always.

- that got him to talk to you. He was pissed off, sure, but he still talked to you. And that was better than nothing. Told you to stop - you didn't.

- dude threatened to arrest you for harassment.

- he'd clench his jaw whenever he had to stand next to you.

“Can't tell if you're tense because you want to kiss me so bad or because you wanna beat the shit out of me.” you said, your tone amused yet held a hint of fake seriousness.

“I'm about to shoot you.” He answered, his tone flat and nonchalant.

“hm. not really fond of that idea, thanks though, Jimmy.”

That was his last straw and he genuinely pulled a gun on you.

- of course, after that, it didn't stop you from flirting with him anyway.

- whenever his colleagues see you nearby, they point you to him and urge him to ask you out. He was starting to hate everyone because of you.

Dmitri Antonov;

- Acts annoyed when you gush over his russian accent. though it makes him feel more comfortable about it, more confident.

- most of the time he flirts back in English. Or just says “oh yeah?” with a small smile of disbelief.

- whenever he responds to you in russian.. he is talking shit about you. Not that he hates you, but sometimes your words are too much for him and the only thing he can do is let it out through violently shit talking you. To convince himself that you're 'not all that'.

- deep down hle knows that you are though.

- if he feels flustered, he averts his gaze, shakes his head and/or buries his face in his hands.

- avoids talking to you at any given time, only does it when he has to.

- touch him in any sort of way and he's STIFF AS FUCK. dude's a statue. Unless he pushes you off.

Eddie Munson;

- feels extremely flattered when you flirt with him.

- of course, he flirts back.

- does an eyebrow wiggle anytime you say something suggestive.

- somehow manages to turn your normal sentences to awkward ones when he makes a dirty joke out of your words.

- “I lost my bracelet in a ball pit like a year ago,” you complained once the conversation turned to speaking about lost things.

“ball pit?” he asked, a small smile creeping up his face.

“Yeah?” You said with a raise of your eyebrow.

“Ball.. pit?”

“Dude.” you deadpanned.

- made a bet with Dustin that you're into him, that you're not just joking. Dustin had his suspicions but you didn't seem the type to like.. men. Or even if you did, you would've told him already.

- that's the biggest loss of his life. lil guy was FLABBERGASTED.

Jonathan Byers;

- cannot hold eye contact for the life of him.

- he gets kinda nervous when you're flirting. The first time you flirted dude was a stammering mess, fidgeting with his sleeves like a maniac.

- despite an established shyness he had around you, he enjoyed your company. you were a good friend.

- friend? You have never given someone so many hints that you like them.

- Argyle, when he was high, told Jonathan to just get together with you already because the pining was giving him second hand embarrassment.

- Jonathan has been even more shy around you since then.

- “That's a good photo, when'd you take that?” you asked simply, your eyes locked onto the photo in Jonathan's hand.

“Like-.. last month, uhm, during the trip-” he stammered out after a short pause, his head lowered. HE WAS BEET RED DUDE.

- “you have GOT to give me a kiss, I did such a good job?” You said in a joking manner.

Jonathan died inside, right then and there on the spot. His mouth hung open, staring at you wide-eyed.

Once you notice he was baffled, you huffed out a laugh. “I was kidding, you know. But I won't turn you down if you decide to actually kiss me-”

“[Name]—” he groaned out a whine of your name, disappointed by your last sentence as he tried to gather himself.

I always find myself being drawn back to the "what ifs” of this situation.

How would he go about apologizing to the others for the season 2 events (maybe he would even find himself explaining his reasons—regardless of if they were right or wrong. Maybe he wouldn’t explain it to all of them--because I doubt he would-- but I could see him explaining it to Max, possibly even Steve and/or Lucas. Mostly, though, if he does find he explains himself, I think it would be to Max and Lucas only; so they don't do anything stupid that will attract Neil's very unwanted attention).

How would he eventually be integrated into the party with the rest of them (if he decided to stay in Hawkins or was forced to stay in Hawkins while he healed and goes through physical therapy, etc)? Would he stay after he was cleared medically? Would he go? Would he keep in contact if he left, or would he just disappear?

There are so many questions I have regarding the what ifs. But if he had survived, I like to think this is how it would go. (((Obviously, this is just my take on it, and everyone is entitled to their own takes and theories regarding this situation. It's unfortunate that we will never know what actually would happen, but this is what the fandom and fanfiction is for, am I right? Lmao.)))

I think, due to everything, he would have changed. I believe it would be hard for anyone not to change after what happened.

I think in the beginning, he'd be an absolute wreck physically, mentally, and emotionally. I think he'd not only have to unlearn the poison his father fed him all these years, but now he'll need to unlearn the poison the mind flayer fed him too. Unlearn and realize the mind flayer was playing on and amplifying his fears and the darkest parts of him, and reinforcing that poison he'd been fed from Neil.

I think whatever lasting injuries would also be devastating and a learning curve because if he had survived, he would not have gotten away from that experience without lasting consequences. I think he'd have trouble with his hands—nerve damage, and what have you—his lungs, his stomach (from both the stab wounds and the chemicals he was forced to ingest), etc.

(I also think he’d have trouble looking in the mirror after it all too, that he’d be afraid to look in the mirror and see the monster, or see the monster’s eyes still swirling behind his own. I also think he would be disgusted by the scars he gained from the aftermath).

He would also have extreme survivors guilt, would believe it was all his fault no matter how many times people tell him it wasn't. That it was the mind flayer doing it and not him.

((Also, it occurred to me, I wonder how hard Billy fought to keep the mind flayer away from Neil, Susan and Max when he was at home? Why didn’t Susan or Neil become victims? Were they just not home at that time? Like were they off on a mini vacation or something without the kids and left Billy in charge of the house and Max while they were gone? Or were they home all that time?))

I think he would eventually start to believe the others when they tell him it’s not his fault, but only after talking to Will. And it's not Billy who seeks him out. It's Will who goes to him instead (Because unlike the others, Will doesn’t have any interactions to go off of in regard to Billy during season 2, he only has the stories). Maybe Billy will realize that it's no more Will's fault for the deaths of those soldiers in the tunnels or Bob Newby, then it is Billy's fault for the death of Heather and her family, or the other Hawkin’s residents. He will still strangle with the survivors guilt, will still blame himself on his worst days, but after his talk with Will, it gets better. It gets better for them both, because they have someone who understands, and who can remind each other that it wasn't them. It was the mind flayer. They were just unwilling tools/pawns to the Mind flayer’s game.

I also think the first thing he would do once stable and awake enough from his injuries is to apologize to Max (I do believe he would find a way to apologize to the others, but at this current time, I don’t think it will cross his mind until later. Maybe Max might say something or maybe he’s reminded of it on his own).

He might not have been in control of himself most of the time during the possession, but he still unfortunately witnessed everything, and he remembers Max’s face through the sauna window before the mind flayer took control. Can still hear Max’s attempt at trying to break him from the mind flayer’s control by reminding him of who he was (remembers trying to scream at her to move out of the way, but unable to do anything but helplessly watch as she was hit aside). Can still hear Max’s blood curdling scream ringing in his ears or the tears that were running down her face when he thought he was dying (and the pain, so much pain, a pain that took the very breath from him) and was only able to utter out a weak and pathetic “I’m sorry” before his world had gone dark.

In season 2, Max tells Lucas that Billy has always been a jerk (which is a sibling right of passage with any sibling. My siblings as much as I love them, they were absolute jerks/assholes, but then again, so was I with them. So, to me, this is a completely normal thing to say. It’s also completely normal behavior especially considering they were a melded together family still trying to get used to the other). I know she also stated that Billy changed when he got to Hawkins, that he was angry all the time now. Which again, is normal for someone who hasn’t been taught how to handle their emotions (during their puberty/teen years where emotions and hormones are at an all-time high) due to not being in a safe environment to do so, and being under the thumb of an abusive, emotionally constipated and masculine toxic parent who wouldn’t tolerate such emotion coming from Billy.

I don’t think Max and Billy’s relationship was perfect in California obviously, but I do believe there was something there, a truce or a gradual budding siblingship that got ruined and tarnished the moment Neil moved them.

I also headcanoned that Billy kept Max and Susan at arm’s length mostly because: if his flesh and blood mother could leave him, what was to stop Susan and Max from leaving him too. I think Billy fought hard not to grow attached to Susan or Max because everyone leaves him or hurts him in the end. Plus, Max with her spit fire attitude that reminds Billy of his mom sometimes (another headcanon of mine), gave him more grief than he wanted since Max never had to suffer the consequences of her actions. Susan was always left in charge of her punishments (another headcanon of mine)—and they always involved grounding, extra chores, no arcade, no skateboard, and no allowance money for however long the punishment lasted. So, no, Max never had to deal with her consequences, not like Billy had to because to Neil, it was “Billy’s responsibility” to keep his new sister out of trouble.

Billy was tired of being punished for things he didn’t do, and he was tired of Max toeing the line of pissing Neil off enough to paint a target on her back. Was tired of her constantly painting a target on his back because of her not listening or toeing said dangerous line.

((I firmly believe Max knew some things, but I don’t think Max knew everything that went on in her own home between Neil and Billy—either by Neil’s doing, Susan’s doing or Billy’s doing or even a mix of all of them. I think also Neil painted a picture/sob story for Susan and Max that made it harder to believe anything else, and with Billy’s behavior, I think it only solidified that picture for them; regardless if it made them uncomfortable or not)).

I also believe these feelings and events/punishments weren’t as bad in California because San Diego is such a massive place, that it was easier for them both to hide stuff from Susan and Neil. That things didn’t get back to them as easily. But now in Hawkins, where everyone knows everyone and certainly knows everyone’s business, that luxury isn’t a thing for either of them anymore.

So, with all of this in mind, with Billy remembering that tentative relationship/truce despite his best efforts to keep Max at arms-length, as well as how Max acted while he was possessed; I think once he was stable and coherent enough, he would do his best to try and make up for everything with her. ((It won’t be easy and it certainly won’t be quickly either. There is too much there that needs to be said and fixed and Billy doesn’t know how to say it or where to even start, but he tries, and Max—having been confronted with the reality of Billy nearly dying and dealing with the guilt of nearly getting her wish—does her best to try too)).

When it comes to the rest, I think Lucas would be next. Lucas has every right not to listen to him or forgive him. However, between Lucas, Dustin, and Mike, I think Lucas would be the one to eventually get to the possibility of “thinking” about it. I think he would only get to that point if he saw a clear difference between Billy and Max. I think because of his love for Max, if he saw that their relationship was repairing for the better, I think Lucas would then be a little more open to thinking about it, especially if Billy’s new behavior begins to extend beyond Max as well. I think if he did decide to try, I think they would bond a bit over basketball (I think basketball is also a bonding thing for Steve and Lucas also) since Lucas doesn’t have that with Mike, Dustin or Will.

Next would either be the rest of the party (Dustin and Mike), or Steve. Steve, I think would be a little more open to just letting it go, but Dustin and Mike are not. It would take a lot or a very long time at least for them to even get to a point where they would consider it.

El—like Will—firmly reminds him it wasn’t his fault when he apologies to her for hurting her. I think they would bond through their traumas, and Billy will end up with another little sister he never asked for.

I also think in the end, with Billy and Max repairing their relationship (and with Billy being alive meaning Neil wouldn’t fly the coup), I think Billy would stick around a bit longer in Hawkins. I think with him finally letting Max in, to put that trust in her that she won’t willingly leave him or hurt him; it would be reason enough for him to stay. Maybe he won’t stay for her 4 years of high school, but I do believe he would stay for a good portion of it.

I also think if Billy survived and stayed in Hawkins, he would be Vecna’s target—for one he escaped Vecna’s control, and for two, Billy is still dealing with that survivors guilt (is still haunted by the faces that he was forced to take). I’m not sure if Max would be a target too, mostly because Max’s stemmed from his death, but I do think there would still be guilt there regardless if he lived. (If Billy left Hawkins, then I’m unsure if Max’s guilt would be enough for Vecna to chose her. But Vecna could choose her to draw Billy back?).

I don’t know. It just makes me really sad that we’ll never know how things would have gone.

But I will die on this hill that Billy would have changed for the better had he survived. I genuinely believe he would have. He deserved to get the chance to try at the very least.

it obviously never goes further than your average 5 year old's crush but it's there. Mike doesn't understand it beyond knowing that Will is suddenly paying a LOT of attention to the new kid and is very jealous about this.

Eventually Will grows out of it and obviously begins crushing(and later falls in love with Mike)

years down the line the party is playing a truth or dare style drinking game and it goes something like:

Since the core 4 is gonna be 17 in season 5, here are the shitty minimum wage jobs they would have

Ok so this one may take a bit of imagination, but Mike gets hired at a local automotive shop, the last job he wanted. But after working there and learning about cars he becomes obsessed with cars, and will never stop talking about them. This becomes his special interest since late Junior year, and constantly offers to fix his friends cars because it gives him an excuse to ramble. He dumps random facts onto people and he has no patience with customer service, he’ll give you attitude and call you stupid.

Will works in retail, and has the most insane patience with assholes at his job. He could be getting yelled at and he would say “I’m sorry” or just smile and tell them to have a nice day. But he would go to Mikes and complain about his job. Most of his co workers are older women who think he’s the sweetest thing alive, and are slightly convinced him and Mike are dating.

Dustin works at the local movie theater, and similar to Steve, would sneak all his friends into the movies for free. He constantly brags about having the best job out of all of them. Him and Steve steal candy and popcorn from the concession stand constantly. He takes hour breaks on his 30s, because “no one will stop him” he pushes every single boundary he can, not because he wants to break the rules, but simply he’s curious on how far he can go without getting in trouble.

Lucas babysits, and he’s really good with children. Mostly because he has experience with having a little sister, bug he’s much nicer to these children than he is to Erica (meaning he teases her like siblings do) he’s really good at reading stories and putting the kids to bed, again because that’s something he probably grew up learning how to do. Every time the parents come to their kid so well behaved, they ask Lucas how the hell he did it. Also he gets paid the most in the whole friend group.
