@queensaryn and I actually have a really fucked up idea/headcanon that I haven't worked on yet but that Robert Lightwood is actually sterile and when Valentine helps them with a 'special fertility treatment' but he really just does IVF with his own sperm.

So like, he does not have Maryse's consent and she doesn't know that Alec or Izzy are his and they only find out something is wrong when she and robert try to have another kid and go to the doctors of Idris who are like 'oh no this guys sterile' and maryse is like 'what injury did that' and they're 'oh no. we can tell by his system that he's always been sterile.' and then maryse has to have her kids run through the database because whose are they? like at this point Maryse's is just relieved they're fully shadowhunter with what she remembers hearing about Jonathon later. (who she thinks is dead and doesn't bring up).

They find out the they're Valentine's and the Clave basically is like 'wait... if you didn't know. what if he did this to other people?' and DNA check all kids born during the time Valentine was active (even before he started the circle) just to be safe. it's how they discover Jace is a herondale and that some other fucky shit has happened.

but also Alec on learning who his bio-sperm is immediately does a ritual that basically is destroying his own sire's legacy. like he creates a blood-oath that is basically he will kill Valentine on site.

the clave is all: okay with the evidence before us we don't know that Valentine is dead anymore. so if you see him try to capture him.

Alec: if I see him i'll try to remember to bring you a piece of his corpse. i'm a mama's boy even if she's not the best mom and he violated her consent and I am going to take it out of his hide. he is not my father.

the clave unable to argue since legally he's allowed to do this: ... well at least we don't have to worry about another uprising?

the clave: surely valentine's children won't be downworlders extremists as well? is this something we need to worry about?

Izzy growing up with Alec teaching her to hate everything Circle because it hurt their mom and fucked them over: screw shadowhunter politics. i'm going to live my best life and fuck a bunch of downworlders until my name becomes synonymous with a good time in the downworld. ha! take that Valentine. hows the legacy the kids you made created? is this what you wanted???

Everyone in the Clave: thank Raziel that Alec Trueblood is slightly more normal than his sister and just wants to tear apart his father and is known for killing and sometimes eating other nephilim (aka circle members).

but also experiment!Alec is amazing in so many different contexts and I really do enjoy using it because the timeline fits and it makes sense. I doubt Valentine experimented first on his own kid and while maryse wouldn't have been willing, Valentine knows how to lie very convincing. she wouldn't know they were anything but normal medical checks.

so it does make sense that Alec could have been experimented on and its very fun to play with the different things he could be or become.

especially if Alec develops them over time and its a steep learning curve.

Thank you for the ask! :> I am going to split this not on Aether/Lumine lines but on Traveler/Abyss Prince(ss) lines, because, well, canon did set it up that way, and while if absolutely pushed, Lumine is my Traveler, I mostly prefer to be agnostic in my meta and fic about who is who.

How I feel about this character

Ah, yes, Traveler von Protagonist Disease.

The thing that complicates the Traveler for me is that I absolutely loathe the kind of semi-self-insert-but-semi-independent-character protagonist that seems to be getting popular in video games these days. Byleth in FE3H is another good example. I wish they didn't exist! I wish that it was either a full self-insert, character-builder and all, or that they gave us a protagonist with a personality in the style of Tales Of and Final Fantasy games in the first place. I really enjoy roleplaying a character as I play a video game, whether given to me as a fully-realized character or as one I made up myself, and this in-between kind of robs me of that because I can't go full "this OC of mine believes this" and I also can't try for accuracy to the character I'm presented on-screen.

That said, they have been getting better about this with the Traveler over the last few nations, and I like the increasing sense of actual, independent personality that we've gotten for them! Obviously a protagonist of this kind of game, where all the others have to like the player character to make the gacha appealing, is going to want to help others, so I actually particularly like the occasional thread we get where they're like "no, I don't actually care half as much for Teyvat as I do for my sibling, I don't not care but my main mission is still to get to them" because it's very refreshing to me.

Childe with the Lumine version, as two people who can and will absolutely fuck each other up in a play-battle, post-fight sex optional but fun. (Also I once read a Childe/Lumine AU fic where Childe was attempting to pursue The Greatest Game with Lumine and she turned the tables and pinned him down with knives through his hands, and it was incredibly hot.) Ayaka, as a one-sided crush on Ayaka's part. That's... really about it.

My unpopular opinion about this character

With a handful of exceptions, I... do not particularly enjoy Traveler-centered fic/art/meta. I don't know how unpopular that is but it's all I've got.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I know why Hoyo can't do this with their gacha game full of waifus and husbandos, but I wish we had at least one major/playable character who just did not get along with them. All their voicelines are along the lines of "you think I'm fucking telling you that?" I just want to see how it would play out.

How I feel about this character

Honestly much more fascinating to me, in part because they've been a lot more allowed to have some kind of personality from the beginning! I want to know all about what's happened to them, why they hold the positions they do, why they give their twin so few crumbs, etc.

This sort of overlaps with the second, but while I don't know how plausible or how unpopular it is, the mirror in the Caribert quest where the Traveler saw them in it combined with some minor previous stuff to unlock a Theory for me that the Traveler and the Abyss Prince(ss) aren't twins, but a single person with, for the Traveler, altered memories, whom the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles broke apart in order to nerf their power and/or for other reasons related to the whole "Fourth Descender broken up for parts" thing. Fascinating to me.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Related to the above: Hoyo, please give me this. For all the game's deliberate sibling analogies and their pleasing narrative resonance, this theory honestly has way more appeal to me overall.

My buddy! My bestest friend! :> I get mad when people are mean to her (in-game or people who choose those options in play). I get sad when she talks about being scared without us (@chrysoula has a theory that this is all foreshadowing a quest/arc where she's taken away and I think this is reasonably likely but I'm also dreading it). I refuse to believe the theories that she's evil, but I do love the theories that she's a reduced/de-powered version of Something/Someone in Teyvat's lore, that would be very fun. I want to give her so many hugs.

I actually found the director, head animator, and head modeler on Bilibili! Here Real proud of myself because he has no accounts on the western internet. He hasn't posted the full short on his account yet but he does have a fananimation for the Apex Legends X FFVII Rebirth collab.

From what I can tell this is also the first Genshin related animation he's done which is cool. The rest of the creators seem to be from the CN fandom as well although I could not find their Bilibili's from a quick search

Moonlit Bamboo Forest - Passion Paris

So this is apparently an Academy Award winning Animation studio!? Passion Pictures is the studios name and the Paris branch animated this short. We have legit 2D animation studios submitting Shorts to Hoyofair now. Wow!

Needless to say this was the short with the most unique animation style. And one of my top favorites this year.

Trial by Combat - ???

So this one seems to be just a collab of a bunch of animators. Like I can't find the project manager online (too generic a name for google). The head animator has a twitter but Twitter changed at somepoint where it won't let me view a direct link to someones profile without being logged in. I ain't creating a twitter for this rabbit hole. his username is rabbitoldman if you want to look him up. But he hasn't made any tweets with the word genshin as far as google's concerned.

so this is super helpful because i didn't really look up much about Arawn other than his description so i didn't have much knowledge or understanding of how the courts and the hunt worked in shadowhunters.

especially because i'm more familiar with Arawn the lord of Annwn, so i just have been going off that lore and some other things that i know from other unseelie myths. (it's why Alec calls Arawn 'tad' because it's welsh and the Araw n i know best and am interested in is Welsh) though i like his horns in his picture

this is super helpful btw, ty. i'm going to pick and choose from that definitely.

also in this arawn is definitely more interested in his kids in a very... asmodeus way i think.

his kids are an extension/expression of his power and he delights in being praised through their deeds and also works very hard to ensure his children adore him above nearly all else. arawn really hates when his kids find lovers outside of his court (those relationships dont normally last unless his kids get bonded without permission) and if he could kill magnus for (in his opinion) 'tricking his son' then he would tbh. he's also not happy about how much alec's not his kingdom since you know, he lives with magnus.

it's not healthy at all by human standards but they're also not human and things are much more either intense or boring and so it works for them.

the other thing that is implied in the fic but not outright stated is that there is a general issue with time here. alec's gone back in time centuries and no one knows that yet because of how time works for faerie rings.

also alec is super favored but he's also incredibly favored because he's never going to be an heir. he's the one kid who will never be caught up in any kind of power struggle and arawn appreciates the idea of that. he also is having a bit of a power trip at having stolen a nephilim babe as his own son

alec's also incredibly receptive to arawn's magic because it saved him and latched on and that also forms a bond. also, tbh arawn's the kind of dad where at some point the kids are just like 'please don't pay us any attention so we can do things without you knowing every single detail' and alec is a consistently shiny distraction for arawn.

especially after he bonds with magnus

arawn lovingly interrogating some of his older children about what they've been up to and five minutes in someone goes: has alec visited recently, i haven't seen him in forever

cue a 3 day rant on magnus bane being the bane of arawn's existence while alec's siblings nod in agreement because 1) they miss their baby brther and 2) life is so much easier with alec around to distract arawn and 3) you don't disagree with arawn about magnus and arawn wont realize for months that he never got any new information.

he continually falls for it not because he's unaware of the manipulations, but because his anger at magnus is so great that a switch is just flipped.

Ok rant and TDI spoilers incoming below the cut. Not really a prompt more...random info to be used if you think it fits?

Arawn is definitely more of an asshole in the books. He doesn't really care that much about any of his kids but:

His favorite was Erec, very sadistic, loves abusing his siblings, got jealous when he realized one of them was more popular than him and convinced the king to give him to the wild hunt. Probably would not react well to Alec being the new fave

The wild hunt doesn't belong to either seelie or unseelie courts but is willing to deal with them. It's led by Gwyn ap Nudd, who out of all the faerie "leaders" is most likely to get the "tough love" title. very similar to your Alec now that i think about it, esp considering he started bending his own rules as soon as he met Diana (bit similar to mirai) bc he's that in love. Actual members of the wild hunt can only leave if permitted by him. They also have one eye color changed (black/gold/silver)

The wild hunt sibling is Kieran! He's a pretty important character but for now he ends up taking the throne, and he's dating 2 shadowhunters one of whom is Helen's younger brother, Mark, who was also in the wild hunt.

There are two separate cases where Arawn used dark magic and spells to give heirs extra power and strength, which is probably something he'd do to Alec:

The first case was Auraline, a child of both him and the seelie queen who was supposed to inherent both their thrones until there was a prophecy and he sent the riders of mannan (near invincible, loyal to the unseelie king and do whatever he wants, would definitely cause trouble if asked to go retrieve Alec) after her. She ran away, married a nephilim, and their descendant was actually adopted by Tessa and Jem, so Magnus sending Alec to them actually tracks with canon a bit.

The last unseelie heir we care about is Adaon. He's probably the "nicest" but what REALLY matters is that he and Magnus had a thing (implied in the books but confirmed by CC) that i assume Alec would not react well to

Miss Miko, the electro-archon best friend™, said about Traveler something along the meaning of You don't have a passion - aka Vision - but that only makes you a possibility, which is inherently might be even more powerful by itself.

And I just thought that there's some delightful chess metaphor in here. Like, Lumine-Aether are for the most part a Pawn. The main character but with only one dare I say straight path and problem-solving approach (khem...violence), with heavy reliance on the moves of others - their power and opportunities that arise out of these. And while the Pawn is as expendable as it gets - we are running errands for everybody like there is no tomorrow - in the end it is the piece with the most insane possibility for usage. When Pawn reaches the end you can make it whatever is best for the situation - even the most powerful figure there.

And maybe dear Cryo archon thinks collecting all the chest pieces (archon hearts) is the best way to win in the end but the overlooked Pawn will be her downfall. And means to an end in the war that will come with the Abyss (probably).

Smarter and more dedicated people have said something about it before me, for sure. Just thoughts. I mean, it's right there, too good not to share

NAME:    aether.    he doesn’t have a name the way celestial deities do,   but aether is what he represents,   so it’s what he’s come to know himself as.    * note on referring to aether in character! TITLE:    he’s accrued several official titles,   but most of teyvat’s people call him traveler / outlander.   it’s a stark reminder that he wasn’t supposed to be here long. AGE:    ancient.    he honestly no longer remembers.    appearance-wise,   he looks to be in his early 20s.    BIRTHDATE: he doesn’t technically have one — he and his sister both predate time.     he chooses one at random on each new world he visits.    GENDER IDENTITY:    N / A   (he / him pronouns are fine.) SEXUALITY:    bisexual.    FAMILY: lumine,   his sister,   is the only family he’s ever known and the only one he’s ever needed.    AFFILIATION:    verse dependent.    OCCUPATION: adventurer? he guesses he’d be an adventurer.    LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: he technically doesn’t have a home on teyvat.   he’s mostly always on the road,   anyways.    LANGUAGES: all-speak.    celestial languages are easy to understand,   but when he speaks,   there’s always an accented note to his words that gives the impression he has to make an effort to form the language on his tongue.

APPEARANCE.    

HAIR:    warm blond,   with a reddish undertone that sheens under sun exposure.    most of the time,   he keeps it long and braided. EYES:    color pick the sunrise. HEIGHT:    5ft7,   171cm. BUILD:    slender and lean.    subtle musculature and no body fat. SCARS:    aplenty.    his body never held on to scars before teyvat,   but since having his abilities sealed,   his body’s become vulnerable in ways he’s having trouble acclimatizing to; his recklessness is obvious against his skin.    the most prominent are:

a pair of vertical,   jagged scars on his back from where his wings were ripped out

on his chest,   burn scars spread out in the shape of lichtenberg figures from his run-in with the electro archon

PERSONALITY.

VERSES.    

VERSE 1:    aether is the protagonist; he travels teyvat in search of his sister. VERSE 2:    aether is the antagonist; he is the leader of the abyss organization,   waiting for lumine to meet him at the end.    my iteration of abyss prince aether sees him reliving the genshin timeline two separate times:    ask me about it! VERSE 3:    also doubles as pre-game verse; aether and lumine are outlanders traversing different worlds.    easily moldable for crossover purposes! VERSE 4:    no difference from general verse aside from the fact that the world the twins visit is modern-day earth.    aether and lumine are university students.    aether is a vocalist in the the band 4NEMO.

NOTES. 

since i do all my genshin quests out of order (ie.    finish the time-locked event quests in a more or less timely manner and leave the archon,   world,   and story quests to just sit there) i like the idea of aether also accepting requests in much the same way,   and i model his timeline to my gameplay.    for example (and there’s plenty of examples to choose from because i don’t play this game consistently),   aether still hasn’t gone to fontaine; he went from sumeru straight to natlan.

aether can’t die.    not permanently,   at least.    if he gets fatally wounded on teyvat,   his body disperses and flickers back into existence at the foot of the nearest statue of the seven.

this applies mostly to the abyss verse,   but because he’s the representation of the aether / quintessence,   he can naturally “manipulate” peoples’ perceptions of him just via existing.    so in dialogue options when lumine asks people if they’ve ‘seen someone who looks like her’,   chances are that they have,   but their recollection of him has shifted because of who he is and what he can make happen.    if he’s not in front of you he just sort of drifts out of your memory.

* in main verse,   he doesn’t manipulate his surroundings’ memories in the same manner,   but if not for paimon’s company,   aether has no difficulty melting into the background and avoiding notice.

aether doesn’t really think about the concepts of ‘giving’ and ‘taking’ in the standard manner; he doesn’t do things to receive something in return,   nor does he really need gratitude,   either,   to be frank.

he doesn't lie. he can obfuscate and he can refuse to respond, but he doesn't lie. doesn't take kindly to liars in turn; he'd rather someone directly antagonize him than lie to him.

his memory is very good: he remembers names,   faces,   and events clearly.    once something’s occurred,   there’s no chance of him forgetting even a single detail of it,   regardless of how much time has passed.    however,   he has a lot of trouble remembering the timeline; time slips away from him often.    the best way to make note of this is in the way he tells stories: he’s likely to mention a lot of details but never go into specifics of exactly when something occurred.    tl;dr: he doesn’t perceive time linearly.

he doesn't mention his sister often, but it's rare that he's not thinking about her.

he doesn’t have to sleep.    like,   ever.    on nights,   if he’s traveling in a party,   he usually volunteers to keep vigil. (he experiences mortal exhaustion because his body's been rendered almost-mortal, but he doesn't actually have to surrender to it.)

Just some thoughts I had, but I really think people who assume the traveler would let Teyvat get destroyed, or side with the abyss/fatui, tend to overlook something very important about their character.

It’s true we’re looking for our sibling, and that people are being Not Super Helpful, but heres the thing. One, they’ve seen their sibling already, they know they’re around Teyvat somewhere. Two, our sibling abandoned us, without giving us any real reason why, only that we should finish our journey (A discussion I’m not getting into rn). While the traveler’s priority is their sibling, its clearly not a two way thing.

The traveler, when it comes to world quests and daily commissions at least, makes the active choice to do these things for people. They aren’t being dragged in against their will, generally speaking. 

And another thing. The traveler is a naturally sympathetic and helpful person. Even in Inazuma, where we can see them want to move on as quickly as possible and leave Inazuma to deal with their civil strife by themselves, helps because Ayaka showed them the suffering going on and they couldn’t stand by and let that happen.

Unless they’re given a very compelling reason, (Which I will admit isn’t out of the realm of possibility) I really don’t think they’d side with the factions that have been against them from day one, not when they’ve befrended so many people across the nations.

some scaralumi thoughts

Spoilers for 3.3. 

lumine x her enemies are generally top tier.

Mainly because of writing.

But Scaramouche x lumine hits differently for me from the rest, because the theme is around finding the truth. The heart of traveler’s journey, and perhaps what abyss!aether had hinted at is that Lumine must travel the world to find the truth. 

Nahida asks him if the truth is important to him. Even as Wanderer, he says, yes. 

(I wonder if  his line about  "The stars, the sky... It's all a gigantic hoax. A lie." is foreshadowing that the irminsul changes history and the way people remember it, in that we have an account of history, but as the game goes on, we’ll find out that there are versions of it that people remember differently.) 

There’s something inherently amazing about the finale of his arc where he goes from being a discarded puppet, to being the baladeer, to the culmination of his arc into becoming a god, and having a fully functional sense of self where his goals don’t exist entirely for vengeful purposes but he is aware of his past. 

And Lumine’s the one who gives him his name. Ugh. Goodness. 

There’s still a moment where Scara locks out Nahida, walks up to Lumine, takes her hand (hand holding hand holding!), and then asks traveller if the past can be changed.

And this brief moment of silence. 

Usually he has a very smirkity smirky face, but there’s some sincerity in this face. This moment is damning for the traveller, because traveller essentially creates wanderer, which is also a reprieve for Scara. But Wanderer also wants his memories back.

The past does not change in Genshin. What Scaramouche did didn’t change. It just changes how he remembers it. Now Scaramouche, thanks to Traveller remembers his past as the Balladeer while also continuing as Wanderer. He’s now a fully functional being with an emphasis on the ability to choose. 

Onto the second part: LUMINE! Okay! As MC of Genshin, Lumine generally does everything right. Mainly for self-insertion purposes. Lumine isn’t a flawed MC. She is an unreliable narrator at most, but for the most part, she reveals some things, and she doesn’t reveal other bits. She’s vague and keeps things, and now with the Irminsul, there’s something she doesn’t share with paimon. 

(This meta situation where we know more than the glorified game menu.) 

But whenever it comes to Scaramouche, she loses her cool. She messed up back in Inazuma in regards to Scaramouche, and she gets poisoned because of him. Yae bargains traveller’s life for the electro gnosis. 

But Wanderer/Scaramouche is outside of the realm of Lumine. Lumine feels a range of emotions when it comes to him. Anger, distrust, pity, bewilderment, acceptance, and finally friendship. 

Do you see WHY I suddenly feel this raging urge to talk about Scaralumi? 

Because of the revelation of the Irminsul, this world is suddenly very deceptive. Everything is a lie. And Scaramouche is thematically tied in with Lumine’s eventual realization and pursuit of the truth.

I was writing the beginning of this new verse for a prompt and it reminded me of another idea that i'd dreamt of briefly during last years brain fog.

Colosseum (and primarily active only) shadowhunter style but it's also basically tied with the whole mating runs trope. which I think I have a prompt from someone about gladiator style shadowhunters fights so like.... I could fill that with this idea I think. it's just courting gladiator style instead.

basically when you hit a certain age, you get sent in rotation to the colloseum because 1) its good training 2) its a good way to connect all the younger active duty Shadowhunters who normally are stuck at their respective Institute 3) allows for the mingling of bloodlines and testing of chemistry

once you reach a certain rank/essential work you only have to go for like, events or if you're specifically called out (because they fight for the right to court as a part of this whole thing)

alec is so far unbeatable. not necessarily because he's better than the rest but the sheer rage and energy of 'i'm not marrying you. perish or die' kind of make it hard for anyone to hold up well against him.

yes Alec knows that both of those options are unreasonable.

he doesn't care.

you expect reason out of him when he keeps having to fight off shadowhunter women looking for strong/lineage/good position/really good with kids-handsome, who want to have sex with him?

like they want to marry him but that's not the only bad part. the worst part is the sex okay. Alec knows exactly what those kind of shadowhunters are here for and it's to have babies. they're looking for a stud but they want a competent one, hence the fights.

technically by the rules of the colloseum Alec could fight a guy and propose that way completely legally but he uh.... there is no one he wants to fight in Idris. like he sometimes subs in for shadowhunters who don't want to risk losing and are too outmatched by their opponent. typically that because of politics or family dynamics they don't say no to the whole fighting mating dance.

and sometimes in a daze the Shadowhunters Alec beats are just like 'oh wow' and Alec is just like looking down at their prone forms, the match already called 'stomps their face and hopes he did enough damage that they forget the last five minutes' (he's gotten really accurate over the years okay. at some point it's mentioned that Simon needs to forget the last few minutes and alec's just like 'oh I can handle that' and everyone is just like "NO ALEC HES A MUNDANE'

Damn it seems elitists are trying to dictate how people play again.

While I am a bit of a meta conformist myself, I find great delight when I see underused characters in multiplayer domains. Sadly, all my friends are on the Asia server while I am on NA. But with the power of PS4 Shareplay, I can watch them play together!

My boyfriend has grown so attached to Xinyan as his main DPS. Our friend enjoys using Beidou as his main DPS too.

Like idk maybe it's cuz you get so used to seeing the same OP characters in multiplayer domains. It just feels like a breath of fresh air when I watch them play together and have fun, filling for roles and whatnot.

Meta can get boring. Which is why I will hold Barbara, Zhongli, Diona, Lumine, and Chongyun very close to me.

Especially Barbara. I don't care if she freezes me, she got me through the original Floor12 of the Abyss.

Yes there’s a mutual bond between them. They kind of create infinite magic generated between them because as a part of his hoard, Alec naturally offers and sends magic to Magnus that is accepted and then Alec also consumes a lot of Magnus magic and things influenced, grown, infused with his magic. They’re also very in tune with each other and though they don’t know it yet they are influencing each other’s shifts. Like Magnus cat form is becoming naturally more sturdy and reinforced like a dragon with his fangs and claws more deadly as well and Alec’s flexibility is changing to even more fluid like a cat as well as his senses (especially taste for the magic) are being enhanced and his scales/body are more naturally protected against other magic.

Also i have theories about how age changes a warlocks magic and with him and alec sharing magic the magic between them is kind of becoming timeless (because of the bond to a primordial being) for Magnus which does mean something about his strength.

2. where is shifted Malec’s fav place to relax and spend time together?

The lounge and the rooftop. Magnus has a lounge/study area specifically for cuddling and it’s got some books and trinkets and a few dozen displays of special gems in case alec wakes first and gets impatient. Its very very soft with rugs and blankets and furs and theres a magical fireplace they sleep in front of with a large bay window and window seat that the sun shines in on so they have perfect napping spots. This is magnus’ favorite and my association alec’s 2nd favorite. 

The other place is the rooftop which is alec’s favorite. Alec loves to nap there no matter where but he likes napping in the koi pond which magnus does not join him for. Magnus has a love/hate relationship with his roof in this because alec likes spending so much time there that sometimes magnus feels neglected. (oh no i woke up and alec is in the roof instead of my arms i am mournful and betrayed). Or ‘why is he sleeping in the pond when he could be sleeping betwixt my paws? The pawtrayal’

3. does the Spiral have rules around dragon’s eating people 😂 I feel like Alec is so pleading guilty

He’s a primordial being of magic connected to a dominion king. He’s got to have his reasons and no one really wants to mess with that. They’re not even sure how to take down a dragon at this point and alec is naturally shielded from magic because of his bond with magnus and his magic. Like they’ll ask magnus about it and figure it out by there. If anything they’d sanction magnus and through him try to punish alec which isn’t going to happen because everyone will be aware that alec will lose his shit if magnus is upset let alone hurt. Like technically, they did steal from a dragon. The laws of magical nature will follow that. Does that make it right? No. but there aren’t many laws in regards to dragons because they’re so rare and powerful and don’t drop by the shadowworld public very often

4. how do the Elders view Malec’s relationship and Alec’s presence in the Spiral secret meetings?

They’re very confused. Like. this is not how they expected a dragon to act? It’s like magnus is carrying around a territorial, temperamental cat thats been drugged. And is objectively terrifyingly powerful. Alec in human form is even worse. Having a conversation with him is like expecting an avalanche to small talk with you. Everyone really prefers alec in small form and since Alec is pretty much confirmed as Magnus’ future consort, their own laws protect magnus and alec. 

alec does take a vow of silence in regards to repeating things heard to outsiders, it's just common courtesy, and also the elders (after talking to Alec) aren't too worried about him telling people things. who is going to be brave enough to have a conversation with him that isn't Magnus, Ragnor or Catarina in their opinion.

5. what’s your fav thing about cat Magnus/dragon Alec?

That alec has literally no fucks to give about how much he adores magnus even if he’s still figuring out all the ways he loves him. how much he loves Magnus is everyone elses problem and they have to deal with it.

And that kind of devotion is really what magnus needs right now (he had a semi-recent encounter with camille before he met alec and he was upset with himself for still being affected and hurt by something that happened so long ago)

Alec’s really made that the last thing on his mind and has been healing a lot of wounds that Magnus internalized.

Alec: what do you mean used to be? You’re still badass. You’re more badass than ever. Take pride in yourself! I’m proud of you. (alec did have to have what badass is explained to him first)

the taste of his magic meta:

so they've been together about 3-4 months now. which doesn't seem like a long time but that means it's taken almost 12 weeks for Magnus to realize he's Alecs hoard when he's been Alec's hoard since like 12 minutes after they met. Magnus will feel very silly about this later when he thinks it through. Alec 100% feels like its his fault because clearly he didn't do a good enough job adoring Magnus if magnus' self-confidence didn't immediately place him as TOP TIER HOARD MATERIAL. (Magnus is like: sweetheart its 800+ years of trauma don't take it so personally.... please stop destroying the couch Alexander I will personally make you a specialized dragon cat-tree.

Alec doesn't have family in this and that's possibly by choice. he's a very asocial dragon who is more interested in sating his own appetite and hobbies than socializing and making friends. he probably is related to a few dragons and half-fae but that would require paying attention to other peoples relationships and Alec has no interest in that and he might have accidentally napped through a century or so and lost what contacts he did have. It's not that he hates the idea of family, he just couldn't be bothered before. none of his clutch-mates ever hatched or it might be different

great question, basically their combined magical signature is the equivalent of that really bright caution tape that warns for radioactive material. magnus' power is bright and unrestrained while alec's power is the shadow beneath it, just as wild and strong. basically there are no weak spots in their magical signature. together they are both the light and the dark, the space above and below filled without any hollows, the harmony of yin/yang with complimentary but separately existing power. Magnus power is blue and gold and alec's is black and silver and when their energies mix it threads together the colors like weaving a tapestry. if magnus' magic is the glowing lure bringing in prey than alec's is sharp, hidden teeth under the lure.

4.) in his cat-form Magnus is typically around 200-250lbs when he's inside his own home just lounging and being comfortable and this way he can pin Alec down for cuddles even if Alec is in human form. while he can fluctuate his size, Magnus prefers using his bulk to his advantage with this particular form. especially when his mate is a dragon who is strong no matter his size. like there is no 'magnus goes small and curls up into alec's lap in this fic. Magnus barely fits his fucking head on alec's lap and takes up the rest of the bed or couch because he wants Alec to be absolutely aware of his presence. he shakes the whole damn couch when he purrs and turns it into a massage chair. Alec can't really be damaged no matter what Magnus does but kitten!sized Magnus might be in trouble if dragon!Alec cuddled him too aggressively.

and Alec is a very aggressive snuggler.

in this fic alec prefers being smol!sized and that's really for two reasons. 1) he can enjoy things better when he's house-cat/small dog sized that are too small for him to appreciate in a larger form (aka it would take an entire barrel of koi pearls to give him a small taste in his true form but when he's tiny he can eat them like a bowl of cherries and enjoy every single one and 2) he really likes it that Magnus can pick him up (by the scruff when Magnus is a cat or in his arms when Magnus is human). Alec has found joy in being carried around like a purse-dog and he won't let anyone take that from him.

so Alec has three main but small sizes around Magnus: around 80-120 lbs when he's on the roof and there is more space and about 12-30 lbs when he's inside the loft. he's smallest when they're out and about and he'll go anywhere from 5lb-15lbs either pretending he's an accessory or acting like a little scaled ferret and wrapping himself around Magnus' neck or sitting in his lap and hissing possessively.

Alec's actual size is massive, larger than Godzilla and much prettier - according to Magnus who would personally polish each scale to prove such a statement true - and he doesn't have much use for it considering only half of that size will actually fit even in his own caves. so there aren't many places he can truly stretch out without going to another dimensional plane.

5) ooh my favorite part. okay so I have two favorite things (lbr I have more than that and am just picking two) and one is the mutual possessiveness/obsession. which I write all the time but Alec is normally more a little subdued or held back in my fics I think? where as here he's all about his instincts and following them and unashamed of them in this fic. it's nice to see how unapologetically he adores Magnus and how proud he is of that fact. the second thing is the misunderstandings.

do I normally hate misunderstandings especially ones that are purposefully overdone?

yes.

do I love to write misunderstandings in a way that just make it better for malec whether or not they realize it?

also yes.

it's one of my favorite things to do.

magnus and alec constantly misunderstanding each other but still getting to the same goal gives me so much life. especially when the misunderstandings themselves aren't bad or harmful and no one realizes they're misunderstanding until later when it hits and its just like: no one can ever know.

not because its bad but because at that point its just embarrassing to admit and easier to fake it because you've already made it

and I do in fact like building multiple misunderstandings on top of each other and cackling as the tower of assumptions wobbles as the plot grows.

I love the misunderstanding in this fic specially at the beginning. Alec is trying so damn hard to take care of his new hoard and his hoard keeps stealing himself away from Alec and Alec can't even deal with the theft because his hoard stole itself!
