🌟 luz and willow owlhouse for the song + character asks!!
(I've never made playlists for characters that aren't my ocs before but just know that I do have hypothetically drafts of ones for both Luz AND willow I love them so much 💕♥️)
Luz 💫🐍:
Magic by Pilot- stupidly self explanatory. I hope you all know that the first version of this song I ever heard was Selina Gomez's cover made for the Wizards of Waverly place movie...
Fine, Great by modern baseball- "I hate worrying about the future/when all I wanna do is worry about everyone but me". S3 Luz. I won't elaborate past this point (/j. I know this song ALSO describes a specific relationship in some parts but more importantly it describes a specific mindset that's applicable to Luz. Hell, these are all pretty explicit problems she has in episodes like hunting palismen, reaching out, thanks to them, etc)
New Soul by Yael Naim- this song gives me shrimp emotions that range from hope, to nostalgia, to sadness, to comfort, all of which associate itself with Luz in my head bc she too produces shrimp emotions in me. It's not necessarily a coming of age song but it FEELS like one, and that's enough for me
Willow 🌸🐝:
Invisible Girl! by Morgan Reese- a season 1 willow track! It's upbeat and funky despite the sad and relatable topic and that just screams willow to me lmao. Little miss "those are bones" "not if I don't look down!". But also specifically the superhero comparison is appropriate to me because Willow is actually super talented and capable she just doesn't see that yet.
Mona Lisa by mxmtoon- okay okay admittedly I got this one from an AMV. I'm not ashamed to admit that. But it is good and I'm correct for the association. It's about the confidence it's about stepping into the spotlight after staying out of it for so long!! It's about the CRESCENDO AT THE END!!!!
Sunflower by Michelle Leigh- makes me think of her and amity. Subsequently makes me sob. Self explanatory
There's so so many more I could add but I limited myself. This is me limiting myself
#ramblings of a lunatic#asks#toh#minor tagging it. it's too much for me to fully commit to maintaining it but it's too much for me to NOT tag it yknow?#anyway there's so many more that i didn't put on here that i thought about/wrote out#me voy by julieta venegas is a luz song. yes it's explicitly about leaving a bad relationship with a person BUT the opening lines-#-speak to a fundamental feeling of being misunderstood in both your nature and intentions (in your heart at the song says)-#-that it feels like it could be broader. the opening lines remind me of luz and so much of her conflict is abt staying versus going#also i twist romantic songs to non-romantically fit my blorbos all the time so. shrug emoji#I almost put everyone blooms by the front bottoms for willow but decided against it bc while the lyrics work really well#it doesn't make me think of her on instinct yknow??#i think of father and son by cat stevens a lot w/ luz bc of how important parent/child and mentor/mentee relationships r to her#i think abt willow when listening to a lot of Lucy Dacus (namely hot and heavy and brando. again these are explicitly romantic-#-BUT that won't stop me from making them abt willow and amity)#also a lot of ship songs i couldn't include for both of them#play the field is a lumity AND huntlow song. lesbianism and sports.#i associate several backstreet boys songs with hunter and willow and refuse to elaborate on this any further due to shame#luz would like boot by tamar kali and worms in my brain by noah finch. willow would like ringtone by 100 gecs and fire by kimya dawson#you get it#i have a lot of opinions#it's ass o clock rn. I should go sleep

I've seen FTF and I have many things to say, but the first one is who or what is the figure we see when Luz is in the portal. Many people have say that that is a Titan but... Is it possible?
Where is Alador? I don't remember anyone mentioning him (at least Emira and Ed are okey. Well, almost Okey hahaha).
When they go to the memory class (I don't know the name of it): they just leave Luz's memories there. I mean, wouldn't that be like so dangerous? We don't see in any point that they put them again into Luz's head, so I suppose that would play an important role in W&D (?). I think it would be awesome if we get to see Luz's memory lane (although it is kind of impossible, because, yk, time, plot...).
Also, Odalia deserved that, for being a b*tch hahaha.
Oh, and I loved how Camilla threw the bat after kissing it and splashing Kiki's face. That killed me HHAHAHA
I also wonder what happened with the owl beast when it saw the collector. I mean, it was supposed that Eda had controlled it, but no, and then we see in the credits an image of King and Eda out of control. But it also drags my attention that Lilith didn't get out of control when she was near to the collector.
Oh, and I didn't understand the whole scene in the memory class with Hunter, Willow and Gus. I mean, I didn't get it, like: Willow and Gus were trying to make Hunter more comfortable but they fucked it? Or what?
And now Lumity hehehe. I didn't like so much their relation in season 3 (well, in TtT we got to see them dancing in the rain and a whole PowerPoint presentation with photos of them, I can't complain), but in the episodes we didn't get to see so much of them (at least not a proper focus). For example, the cute scene of both talking about palismen in the owl house: it IS so cute, and Amity kisses Luz's head (awww), but then Luz just don't respond to it and it seems like she doesn't want it? It was so rude :'(
Well, and what do you think was that thing that Luz had to tell Amity just before they were interrupted by Kikimora?
Oh, and I also loved how Amity gets Luz out of the portal by the feet hahaha.
I also think that Stringbean likes, like a lot, Amity? I mean, if you see slowly that scene, you can see how the Palisman rubs softly against Amity's cheek. AND THAT IS SO F*CKING CUTE I'M GONNA CRY.
And the whole Boscha - Amity thing. Boscha was behaving like the obsessed -toxic-ex and that made me even laugh.
Overall, the episode was fun and good, although it felt a bit slow. Many say that is because it's not plot centered, but character centered (and, well, ofc it is, they managed to have like a thousand characters on-screen and develope or end their arcs in a proper way -> I mean, when I thought Amity's arc was over like since season 2 episode 2, now we get a whole vision of Amity's change when in detention pit).
And one last comment. Luz's palisman hatches when she is able to figure out what she really wanted (to be understood), but I think that wouldn't make much sense. Let me explain, for the character is absolutely something that would fit, because we've seen how Luz had struggled with the world in general. But for the palisman itself is sth like "?", Because we've seen that, for example, Amity's desire was to make her own path and that's something that takes a long way (I mean, it's not something that can be fulfilled in an instant), but Luz's desire is now fulfiled because her mother has finally understood her (at least that how Luz feels it). Idk if you get me.
There is a Lot going on here so I'm going to answer it all under a read-more :)
1). I mean, it's either a Titan or it's a Titan Trapper. It looks exactly like them, so I can only imagine they'll pop up again in the next episode.
2). I also think we'll see Alador in the next episode. I think he'll probably be okay, but maybe wounded in some regard. I'm honestly just assuming he's a puppet somewhere right now.
3). Yeah, I know what you mean, but honestly I think that's just a detail we'll have to forget about, unless it does somehow come up in the finale (which I doubt will be the case). It is dangerous to leave the photos alone like that, so... maybe after a certain amount of time they automatically disappear without harming the legitimate memories? Something like that.
4). Odalia's still going to be an issue in the finale, though. Mark my words.
5). Camila was PEAK in this episode. "Kikimiki" murdered me.
6). I don't think the Owl Beast likes The Collector at all, which would track, considering what we know of their experiences with one of them, though it wasn't necessarily this Collector. But Lilith's curse is honestly still more manageable than Eda's is, and I don't think she really has an Owl Beast inside her, just a bit of one, which is why she didn't lose it as well.
7). That scene was the culmination of Everyone's issues, but specifically Hunter's and Willow's. Willow was trying to help by showing him a picture of him being happy with Flapjack, Hunter was touched by the gesture and didn't know how to say it, Willow thought that meant she'd messed up, Gus blamed himself for not talking to Hunter earlier, and they just didn't communicate with each other. It's a really well-done scene and it's heartbreaking to watch.
8). I don't think it was rude of Luz, and Amity didn't either. She's hurting, she was damn-near suicidal in Thanks to Them, and Amity's being Peak GF by supporting her, no matter what. As for what she was going to tell her, it was going to be her decision to leave the Boiling Isles.
9). Episode didn't feel slow to me at all! Just different, obviously, and in a good way.
10). I disagree, actually. Sure, in the moment Luz does feel understood by her mother, but that's an eternal goal, especially if she continues on her path in being a witch (and she will). She's always going to be the odd one out whether she's in the Human or the Demon Realm, and now she knows what she can always work toward.

You ever find and listen to a song and you have to take a while to listen to it on loop because it’s making your heart do everything and making you think many thoughts with the neurons in your brain being relentless?
Yeah, that’s been me with Golden Hour for the last almost 3 hours.
“How many Owl House ships can I fit in here?”
”I could make a Lumity AMV with this”
“Oh my god, this is perfect for that self indulgent mostly private AU I’m making!”
”This is reminding me of someone. Wonder who it is?” (Spoiler alert, it’s Luz)
”God, I hope to sing this to my future significant other one day.”
”Look at me, I’m singing and acting to this like I’m in a music video!”
”THIS SONG IS BEAUTIFUL AND SO GOOD WHAT THE HELL”
“Many. Many thoughts. Please, save my brain, it can’t take this much late at night.”
Dear Titan, it’s taking over HELP BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!

At time of queuing, I just watched the first couple episodes of The Owl House. Random thoughts:
That's a fast episode 1. It establishes Luz's imagination, independence, and creativity; her interest in fantasy; how poorly she fits into her school environment; that her mom is supportive but worried about how poorly she fits in; the reason her mom expects her to be gone for a few months; all in the first few minutes. It feels like the showrunners were trying to fit as much of the show's premise and hooks into 22 minutes as they could. (And unlike certain manga I've complained about, they focused on what actually matters and not, like, exposition or fight scenes.)
The magical world is so weird. In the space of a few seconds, we're shown a cross section of a world that works on a weird...not quite a dream logic, things feel too solid for that, but on internal rules that don't make sense to the conscious mind. It's appealingly weird.
Eda seems like my favorite kind of mentor character: One who means well and has plenty of wisdom the protagonist could benefit from, but also sucks at mentoring. Even if I hadn't heard plenty of spoilers, it would be obvious from the Conformatorium bit that Eda's gone through a lot of struggles similar to Luz's. (Plus, she's clearly almost as interested in the human world as Luz is with magical worlds; she's keeping a lot of sellable human junk around.)
King looks like a hellhound, but he acts more like a cat.
I like how the titular Owl House tries to be a serious mystical character, but nobody takes it seriously, especially not the writers.
As someone who, unlike Luz, knows she's a character in a TV show and has spent years picking out themes in narratives without trying, I can't help but notice that Luz was crushed by the "good student" box her middle school was trying to force her into, only to jump into the "chosen one" box as soon as a wizard gave her a map.
At this point, I have trouble imagining how Luz is going to end up in the school. (Even if I hadn't read spoilers or seen any Lumity art, it would be obvious from the theme song and end credits.) I'm sure there'll be a good reason, but it's not clear what that reason will be.
There's a lot of things eating people and people eating people in this show. I don't have a real point here, but it's a thing that keeps happening. It mostly seems like another way the Burning Isles are weird, but it's a specific way that's kinda weird.

valentines day <3
(setting: in the human realm, in college but on break, valentines day, enjoy)
"Nothing here is good enough!" Luz exclaims.
"You know, I don't think Amity will care too much about what you get her for Valentine's Day. It's the thought that counts, right?" Hunter says, eyeing a necklace on a spinning rack display.
"Well, the only way she'll know I put thought into it is if it's good!" Luz mumbles, looking at earrings and keychains. "Hey is this cute?" Luz holds out a rabbit keychain. "It's light purple. Like her hair. Abomination colored," she holds up the keychain to inspect it. "I think it's good. What about you?"
"Huh? Sorry, no yeah, sounds good," Hunter says, now holding the necklace he was looking at. Its pearls, with a small heart locket at the bottom. "Do you think Willow will like this? We've been dating for months but I don't know if this would fit her taste-"
"Yeah, dude! It's so pretty!! She'll love it! Anyway, focus. Okay, I'll get her this keychain. But it's not enough! Oh, I know! I'll write her a heartfelt love letter!" She yells out with pride like she's the inventor of love letters and romantic gestures as a whole.
"Cool, now pay, and let u go."
They walk to the line in front of checkout when Luz gets a text from Amity.
Amity: Hii
Luz: hi ami <3 r u okay?
Amity: Yeah!
Amity: I have something planned though! Meet me at Gravesfield Park at 3pm.
Luz checked the time. It's 1:56. That gives her an hour to prepare her gift for Amity. That should be enough.
Luz: okayyy <3
"Luz, it's our turn!"
Luz: gtg, see you later ^^
Amity: cya <3
Luz and Hunter quickly paid for their items and drove back home.
~~
Luz put on cargo pants and a green tank top, messing around with her hair when she got a message from Amity.
Amity: u ready yet? no rush ^^
Luz: almost!!
She shut off her phone, looking in the mirror. After promising herself to no longer straighten her hair, it was now restored to its bouncy and curly nature. She decided it looked okay and to leave it the way it is, no styling needed. The only problem was the love letter. She knew if she was allowed to be as cheesy as possible, she would be done in an instant. But she wanted this to be heartwarming, romantic, and memorable. Pulling out her chair, she sat at the desk in her room. She reached for one of the desk drawers and pulled out a piece of paper, a pencil, and an envelope. She sat there in silence, staring, as though she expected the letter to write itself. Picking up the pencil, she tried to write.
Dear Amity...
She stared at the paper once again. How do you start these things?
Dear Amity... I love you.
Good, Luz thought to herself. We're getting somewhere.
Soon she just wrote like she was motor powered, the words for her love pouring out of her.
"Hee hee, I'm such a poet," she laughed to herself. Once done, she threw the envelope in a small red paper bag with the keychain. Since the park was within walking distance, she didn't feel the need to drive. Once at her destination, she received a text.
Amity: Look to your left
read the rest here ^^:
enjoy

ESSAY: Because “That’s what friends do.” OR, Why Arguably the Most Memed-On Line in TOH is ACTUALLY its Most Important and the Most Vital to a Healthy Lumity Relationship.
NOTE: To keep this blog from just being reposts, I wanted to put up an old essay I wrote for the show, originally on my now-defunct Reddit. A lot of the essay might not fit as well now since Lumity is officially cannon, but I liked this old essay still and wanted to show more people. Hope you all enjoy.
We’ve all been there; you’re on your 16 re-watch of Grom. You’ve seen them tear Amity’s note in two, destroying our babies heart. Luz picks up one of the pieces, unfortunately the wrong piece, and see’s that Amity’s fear is of being rejected. She holds out her hand, asking Amity “What if I went to Grom with you instead.” Amity, eyes shining, smiling, reaches a hand out herself, and, in an excited voice, simply asks “Really?” And Luz responds with the four most hated words in the English language;
”That’s what friends do.”
Tumblr media
And all you can do is remember all the jokes you’ve heard about this line. From literally everywhere. Every fan has joked about this line. And it’s easy to see why. On the surface, it’s the ultimate friendzoning. Here, right before a big romantic dance, Luz asks Amity, who CLEARLY likes her a lot, ‘Hey, wanna go to this thing that couples usually do with me,’ and when Amity asks her “Really,” Luz’s response is essentially “Yeah, platonically, of course, because we are friends and nothing more, buddy, ol’ chum of mine!!!”
And this isn’t me saying that the jokes you’ve heard about it aren’t funny. Far from it.
But, when you actually strip away the fandom jokes, there’s something important that I think needs to be noted.
Tumblr media
Amity’s smiling.
You can joke “Oh, she’s smiling through the pain,” but there’s something important about Amity smiling. She’s not hurt by Luz saying she wants to go as friends. And I think there’s a reason for that.
Because Luz telling Amity “That’s what friends do” isn’t a mockery of Amity’s feelings, but an answer to a question Amity has been trying to figure for a while now.
What makes someone a true friend.
And Luz’s answer to that is important.
It’s choice.
PART 1: CHOICE’S
It’s important to note something crucial about Luz and Amity’s relationship up to Grom; it is almost entirely defined by Luz’s choices.
Amity has little agency in her life. Her parents have lorded over her since she was a child. Her one choice, to be friends with Willow, is forced away from her in favor of her parents preferred options for friends. It’s very likely that Alador, being an Abomination student at Hexside (if the flashback theories are correct anyway) had more say in Amity’s track then she did. And the idea that she wants to join the Emperors Coven is never really fleshed out to make it seem like she REALLY wants it.
When she brings it up in Covention, she doesn’t say, “You made me look like a FOOL in front of the Emperors Coven, what I’ve always wanted to join.” It’s “You made me look like a FOOL in front of the Emperors Coven, MY FUTURE.” She doesn’t talk about it like it’s something she truly wants, but more like it’s a thing she has to strive for because she should. And since Odalia is an Oracle (again, if the flashback theories are correct), her mention of “my future” may have more to do with what her mother sees then what Amity desires.
So it’s clear by now Amity has little choice or agency, stripped of it by parents who care more about status then their daughters happiness. And she seems ok with this status, at least for the most part.
And then Luz happens.
I can’t emphasize enough how important Luz really is to Amity’s development. Sadly, a lot of that is because, since Amity can’t really make choices, it’s Luz’s choices that start Amity’s path.
Tumblr media
In Covention, Luz chooses to challenge Amity to a Witches Duel for King. But later, it is also Luz’s choice to run after Amity, to apologize and try to comfort her after learning Lilith, her mentor, used her to cheat against her sister. And when Amity lashes out at her and demands she say she isn’t a witch, Luz chooses to answer not with an argument, but with agreement, albeit in a way that shows off how she’s still trying to BE a witch even if it’s technically impossible.
Tumblr media
In Language, Luz chooses to try and befriend Amity after seeing her read to kids, and even leaves the twins to apologize to Amity after she hurts her, however much she didn’t intend to. And by the end of that adventure, she chooses to lend Amity a copy of Azura. Not because Amity demands it, but because Luz wants to try and make things right.
Tumblr media
(No relation to the point I just love this image)
And even when it seems like the choice to be with and help Amity is made impossible by AMITY’S INSISTENCE when she creates a protective barrier for her in Elements, Luz breaks free and CHOOSES to run and help Amity. There’s probably more, but you get the point.
So, up to here, Amity has had very few real friends and made very few real choices. In fact, the one real choice she’s made up to now was burning Willow’s memories, which
Tumblr media
...bad choice. Meanwhile, Luz is the one who keeps making choices, not FOR Amity, but BECAUSE OF Amity. She never makes Amity do anything she doesn’t want to, but she is always there for Amity, even when Amity may not want her to be. And importantly, Luz never does this because of external pressures, like Eda makes her or Amity has something Luz wants.
Luz does it because it’s HER choice.
PART 2: GROM
Near the opening of Enchanting Grom Fright, Amity, seemingly, is about to make a choice, asking Luz to the dance. But she is stripped of her choice, once again. This time by Principle Bump declaring her Grom Queen, a position she never asked for or wanted, and one that clearly FRIGHT-ens her!
...
So, she once again is stripped of agency and choice. And importantly, it’s Luz’s idea for Amity to ask if she can NOT be Grom Queen, which pushes Amity to do so. Unfortunately, once again, Amity has no choice; the only way she CAN get out of being Grom Queen is for someone ELSE to choose it.
I think we all know where this is going.
Tumblr media
Luz CHOOSES to be Amity’s ‘Fearless Champion.’ Not because she HAS to, but because SHE WANTS TO. Again, Luz isn’t being coerced or forced into this. Unlike almost everything Amity has had to do, Luz is given a choice, and she always, ALWAYS, chooses the side that helps Amity, opposite Amity, who is NEVER given a choice and is ALWAYS made to be on the side that cares the least about her.
So, Grom comes, and, after watching Luz risk her own life by taking on Grom herself, Amity finally, FINALLY, makes a choice; to be the one who HELPS LUZ! To be the one who stands by HER instead. For the first time in the series, Amity makes a real choice. And when Amity’s fear is (sorta) revealed, Luz offers to her friendship, her companionship at Grom. She chooses to be there for Amity as Amity chose to be there for Luz.
Friendship, in TOH, is not something people are forced into, or something they have to do out of obligation. It’s a choice, a desire, more then anything. And that’s why Amity is told “That’s what friends do” at Grom. Luz isn’t telling her they platonically go to dances. She’s telling her that friends choose to help. They choose to be there for each other. And that choice is something Amity is going to have to learn to do more frequently.
PART 3: AMITY, CHOICE POST-GROM, AND WHY HER AGENCY IS IMPORTANT FOR LUMITY
So, has this idea fully sunk into Amity yet?
Well, sorta?
The issue with Amity’s relationship to choice now is that they seem entirely dedicated to Luz. Amity’s chooses not to get involved in the Grudgby match until after Luz decides to sacrifice herself to keep Boscha’s ire off of Willow. And later on, she chooses to put herself at risk to save Luz and earns a broken leg for it.
The choice of helping her friend isn’t bad, no, but it shows a problem with Amity’s agency. Namely that her choices always, ALWAYS, revolve around Luz.
While I’ve emphasized Luz’s relationship with choice through her decisions with Amity’s, she makes plenty of choices that have nothing to do with her throughout the series, such as deciding to stay in the Boiling Isles. Admittedly, a part of Amity’s problem may very well be that she’s a side character while Luz is the main one, meaning Luz is going to be more important and make more overall decisions, but still, healthy relationships are not built on devotion alone, but through two people with two different lives being able to work together.
And this is where I talk about what I HOPE Amity’s arc in the series is; not just making decisions because of Luz, but making decisions because SHE WANTS TO. It’s only when Amity is able to begin making choices on her own that she and Luz can be truly happy and healthy together, because a real relationship requires both parties to have lives and needs and wants outside of the other. Otherwise, it becomes less a romantic connection and more a slavish devotion.
But still, telling Amity, in essence, that friends choose to be together, is at least a decent start for Luz to help her grow.
CONCLUSION SO, what is the overall point of this?
Mainly that I spend way too much time thinking about kids cartoons.
But ALSO that even the most memes lines can, in reality, be the most important. That for all the jokes that can be made about how ridiculous and oblivious Luz is at Amity’s feelings, telling Amity “That’s what friends do” holds more weight then any of that.
And overall, that friendship is a choice. And that hopefully, soon, it’ll be a choice Amity will be allowed to truly make.

A Cup of Coffee
[TOH, Lumity, Coffee, Fluff, Established Relationship] AO3 Link
Luz introduces Amity to the human wonder that is coffee; Amity's just happy to be around her. || Fluff, They're Being Cute in the Kitchen, Sharing a Cup of Coffee
--
“So it’s a potion.”
“A potion?” Luz gasped dramatically. “This is a work of art. An example of human genius, it’s—it’s one of life’s miracles!” She threw up her hands in a gesture of emphasis. “It also helps me get out of trouble when I do something stupid in the morning and Mami’s about to give me the good ‘ol chancla.”
Amity gave the small glass of dark liquid a scrutinizing look. It sat steaming on Eda’s kitchen table, looking dreadfully dark. “Beans which have been roasted, ground, and can be methodically brewed in different ways which determine the potency of its effects. Causes wakefulness, alertness, and the jitters with a dash of anxiety when consumed excessively.”
“I can’t believe you’ve managed to make coffee sound so boring.”
“It’s a potion.”
Luz indignantly held a finger up. “You’re cute, but I respectfully disagree.”
“Luz!”
“Potions—” Luz dragged with emphasis, “—are boring and always have a fifty percent chance of blowing up—”
“Only the ones you make.”
“—but this? This rich aroma, when mixed with the perfect amount of sugar and cream? La neta, it’s heaven!”
Amity laughed; a small bubbling sound coming from the smile hidden behind her hand. To say that she was reluctant to give it a try was an understatement—but did she ever really stand a chance? Luz was so animated, so charming in her impassioned speech on the gastronomical wonders brought about by this mysterious human potion called ‘coffee’ that she was once again reminded of just how far she had fallen for her.
“Are you even listening, Miss Blight?” Luz crossed her arms, eyes squinting.
“Always,” came Amity’s effortless reply. Then she blinked, flustered at her own sappiness, “I mean—”
But they’ve been girlfriends for quite a while now. It was okay to be sappy!
“—yes,” she committed, brushing back her hair behind her ear with a sheepish smile and all. “Always am.”
Luz beamed, holding the cup forward for her to take. She blew on it, careful not to spill any while Amity gently took the glass. “Careful!” Luz whispered, “it’s hot.”
“Mhm,” Amity nodded. The cup was warm, but the way that their hands brushed in a brief moment of contact was another source of warmth altogether. Still hits different. Every time. She took a small, hesitant sip and—
“Eugh!” she sputtered, wincing.
“Aaaand that’s a no,” Luz laughed apologetically. “It’s okay if it’s not your cup of tea.”
“Perhaps not.” Amity held it back for Luz to take.
“Get it?” Luz grinned, winking. “Cause it’s a cup of coffee.”
“You’re impossible.”
“No, I’m Luz.”
“I—” Amity sighed. “Never mind. Thanks for letting me try though? More for you.”
“Ah!” Luz facepalmed, groaning. “Lo siento, I can’t believe I forgot the sugar and cream!”
Amity was about to ask what she meant but couldn’t find a window of inquiry because Luz was fast at work the very next second. She was rummaging through Eda’s cupboards, face wrinkled in an (adorable) look of concentration. Amity leaned on her arm against the table, content to sit in silence while catching the bottles that Luz kept haphazardly throwing into the air behind her with a flick of her wrist. A few minutes and several floating bottles (“Can you at least set them down on the table?” “No!”) later, Luz was once again presenting her with a fresh cup of coffee. It was lighter than her first attempt, and the aroma was sweeter and milder. It was actually… inviting?
“This is it!” Luz exclaimed, a mischievous glint in her smile. “The perfect cup of coffee for the perfect pretty girl.”
“Do you plan to flatter me into liking your strange human beverage?” Amity laughed.
“Is it working?”
She blushed. “Maybe a little.”
Luz smiled. “But first—quality control!”
Amity watched as she blew away the steam and leaned in closer so that the cup was right in between them. Luz lifted the cup to take a small sip for herself, closing her eyes to savor it. She hummed in satisfaction, nodding. And then she took another.
“That hits the spot.”
“Satisfied?” Amity asked.
“One more taste!” Luz grinned. “For safe measure.”
Luz took a full gulp of it this time, tilting the cup upwards and towards herself. Amity watched with no small amount of amusement as Luz recovered. She had a moustache of foam along her upper lip from the froth of the milk, and she—
She—
Amity really wanted to—
“Wanna try it again?” Luz looked up.
There was a short pause.
“Yes.”
And then Amity was kissing her.
Luz was frozen for moment, but then leaned into the small space in between them almost automatically, careful not to jostle the cup between her hands. It was short, sweet, with hints of vanilla that mixed perfectly with the heavy cream.
They pulled apart in a fit of blushing and silly little grins.
“You know what,” Amity giggled. “I think I kind of like it.”

Luz, that's creepy but it is sweet that they were able to at a little bit of Lumity into the episode.
Tumblr media
I laughed when she pick up the baseball bat. I almost yelled "Beta Luz!" and then she jumped out the window like five seconds later.
Tumblr media
So she wasn't creepy at all. Vee just wanted to for in and she saw an opportunity and took it. Luz, being herself, was supportive of her and tried to help her transform back into Luz.
Tumblr media
PHILLIP?!? The second guy looks like Hunter, but I have a theory we'll here now about these two later in the season.
Tumblr media
Oh Eda, I mean Marilyn. I'm surprised she got a live raccoon. But I have a head cannon that when the portal was open, she would go get her human junk, but then also stop at the cafe and pick up Luz some human food since she can't eat a lot of food on the Boiling Isles.
Tumblr media
PHILLIP?!? HUNTER?!? CARDINAL?!?! LITTLE RASCAL?!?! Dana, I need answers
Tumblr media
Ahh, that's why Amity hasn't had her training wand. Eda somehow got it and took it to the human realm. As we know now, Amity doesn't need it.
Tumblr media
Her face. God I love her.
Tumblr media
Camila is having no time for you Jacob. I loved how we finally learned that Camila is a veterinarian, not a nurse like we all thought. It fits her personality so well.
Last part coming up soon!

ft amity being ridiculously soft and in love and probably a lot of spelling mistakes idk
They drop Willow and Gus at their respective homes before midnight sets in - Amity even helps Gus crawl in through his window, which is nice of her, Luz thinks. She's too sore and tired to do anything except stand behind her, watching the street in case Odalia comes tearing down it on top of another abomination (probably with teeth this time, because who knows what happened after they ran away from the warehouse), gripping her sore arm and thinking about how her heart started pounding in her ears earlier, how she flushed when Amity grabbed her shoulder and hurried her outside and had to stare determinedly at the stars for a good ten minutes before she could look her in the eyes again, how -
"Luz?"
She jumps. It's Amity - of course it's Amity, she's been anxiously hovering around her and mumbling apologies for her parents since they were sure they weren't being followed - and she's holding out her hand and offering her a small, awkward half-smile, and Luz's heart gives a funny little jump, and then a second as she takes it and laces their fingers together.
And then a third, this time for a different reason altogether, when Gus pokes his head out of the window above them and waves.
Amity waves back (She really likes us now, Luz thinks, grinning up at the illusion of Gus's disembodied head propped on his balcony), and when they set off down the street, she feels her own grip tighten ever so slightly around her hand.
She lets out a long breath. Everything is fine. It's a beautiful, silent night, and she's wandering down the prettiest street in Bonesborough and holding Amity's hand, and there's still abomination gunk in her hair, but everything is... fine. Great, actually. And Amity is smiling, which is awesome, because Luz has never seen her smile at anything like that before.
She could get used to it, honestly.
Amity glances at her and smiles again, softer, slower. "You're making your idea face."
Luz blinks, resists the urge to reach up and feel exactly what face she's making. "Oh, am I? I have an idea face? That's pretty cool, actually. Or is it? Because then everyone knows what I'm thinking. Nah, still cool. I have an idea face. Yeah. I'm intimidating and cool. A bad boy, if you will."
She laughs. (Luz's heart does the funny little jumping thing again. She wonders, distantly, if it shows.) "The literal walking definition of a bad boy, you goof."
"Baddest boy in the Boiling Isles. Lesser witches cower before my star power."
Amity laughs again. She has a really nice laugh (like, wow), and it's still making something in her chest feel funny. "Luz the Bad Boy," she says, somewhat giddily.
"Azura the Good Witch and her edgy cousin." She squeezes Amity's hand, swinging their interlaced fingers between them. It's not often they get moments together like this, and she's starting to understand now what it is that's making her heart race and her breathing feel funny, and she thinks, a little distantly, that spending time alone with Amity is going to be - weird now, and - "I'd read that book."
"Please don't tell me the next thing we do is write it."
"Oh, we?" Luz turns to grin at her. "There's a we now?"
And Amity - Amity flushes.
"Yes - I, um - a - a we, sure, I don't - I dunno, uh - we as - as in - um -" She bites the inside of her cheek, glancing away, and Luz's heart does the jumping thing again.
"Wow, are you okay?"
"I'm fine," she mumbles, grip loosening on her hand, and she chews on her lip and squeezes it tighter. It probably isn't the best move, but Amity... Amity seems to respond well to it - she squeezes her hand back, and when they round a corner and officially make it out of the main town, Luz notices that they're walking in sync. The realisation makes her smile.
"Amity," she begins, and Amity jumps.
"Hm?"
"Are you gonna go back to your parents tonight? I - I don't think that's really safe. You - you could - uh, you could stay with us, if you want. Just until school tomorrow. King won't sleep on your clothes if I tell him not to, I swear."
She smiles at her over the space between them - the same soft, slow smile that made Luz's heart do the Thing again earlier. "I - thanks for the offer, but I'll probably go to Skara's. She's used to it. Me coming over after an incident, I mean."
"Stuff like that's happened before?" Luz whispers, and she meant it to sound casual, not... tense. "I'm - I'm really sorry, Amity. I'm sorry for pushing you earlier."
Amity shrugs. "You didn't know. It's not like I go around telling people. And it's not - it's not a big deal, anyway."
"Amity, that necklace -"
"Luz," she mumbles, not unkindly. "It's not a big deal. I can handle it. I've got Edric and Emira."
"And your father?"
She shrugs again, slower this time. "He doesn't care. Mom could dangle us over the edge of a cliff and he'd be more concerned with the soil density than, you know, his children."
Luz can't think of anything to say except "I'm sorry." She reaches out with her free hand, touches Amity's shoulder, and she gives her a long, warm look. And they fall silent.
And Amity's head falls gently onto her shoulder.
--
The silence lasts for the majority of the walk home, right up until they make it into the woods, and then Amity lifts her head from Luz's shoulder and murmurs, "It's really pretty out here at night, isn't it?"
Looking over at her and saying yeah, it is would be the obvious and cliché thing to do, and also Amity would notice and probably laugh at her, so Luz stares determinedly again at the sky for the second time tonight and chokes out, "Yup. Really pretty. Love living out here. Especially at night."
Amity giggles, and it's the most undignified and adorable sound she's ever heard come out of her mouth. "You're a dork."
"Biggest dork on the Boiling Isles. Baddest boy around. My list of qualifications just keeps on growing."
She laughs again. And Luz realises that ever since they escaped the warehouse, she's been... relaxed. Not happy, because dealing with a mother like that probably couldn't leave her feeling particularly cheerful, but... open. Softer, warmer. And she thinks it's because of the absence of the necklace.
They stop not far from the Owl House, in the shelter of a large tree she knows, logically, isn't oak, but looks too close to be anything but. Amity's head falls back onto her shoulder again. She makes a soft, contented noise (and the Thing happens again, and she thinks, wow), and mumbles, "You're thinking about the necklace, aren't you?"
"I didn't say anything. That was all you. But yes, I am curious. D'you - d'you want to talk about it?"
A long, almost languid shrug. She reminds Luz of a cat sometimes. "She used it to talk to me. And, uh - and keep me in line, I guess. Threaten me where no-one else could hear it. Where Dad couldn't stop it. Yeah, he did try to stop it sometimes. Mostly because he seems to draw the line at physical injury he can't explain to the authorities." The corners of her mouth twitch up, and Luz has to shake herself.
"That's awful," she breathes, feeling small. "That's horrible, Amity, I'm sorry."
"Don't be." Amity detaches herself from Luz's side, and her hair is messy and sticking to the side of her face and when she steps away and turns to face her she keeps a hold of her hand. "Come on, I'll walk you to the door."
Luz smiles at her.
--
Amity lets go of her hand when they get to the porch. (Luz tries not to visibly frown at the loss of her presence.) She makes it all the way to the door, Amity trailing behind her with an odd, uncertain expression, and then something shifts a little within her ribcage and she spins around and flings herself into her arms, and Amity yelps and stumbles back a little, and then she loops her arms around her shoulders and hugs her back.
Luz likes hugging Amity.
It's such a simple thought, and it makes her feel so strangely delighted. They fit perfectly between each other's arms, and in the half-dark, lit only by the dim, guttering light from the lamps inside the house itself, and she has the feeling that the only reason Hooty isn't directly behind them making some snide comment is because Lilith is inside and entertaining him, thank G0d.
Something like five minutes pass - I've been hugging Amity for five whole minutes, oh my gosh - and then she hears, somewhere to her left, "Uh, Luz?"
"Hm?"
"This is nice."
She settles her head on Amity's shoulder. "It is."
"I think I have to let go now."
"Nooo..." She buries her head in Luz's hoodie, just gently enough to make her heart do the Thing again, and sighs, and Luz laughs.
"You okay there?"
"Don't get a lot of hugs."
"Mm. You can still stay with us tonight if you want." ('Don't get a lot of hugs.')
Amity shakes her head. "I'm good. Thank you, though."
"Thank you for saving my life today. You were awesome. You are awesome. I can't imagine doing anything like that."
"Luz," she says, warmly, softly, "You do it all the time."
And with that, she steps back, lets go of her entirely, and practically skips into the night, leaving Luz to stare after her and wonder why she left so fast, and spend the rest of the night agonising over this weird, warm feeling buzzing away in her chest.

talking about toh | season two, episode nine: "eclipse lake"
i need to stop procrastinating on these.
previous | first | next (notice of discontinuation) spoilers under the cut
the beginning
to be honest, i wasn't really paying much attention to the book at the very beginning, but according to other fans it looks like hunter is something called a "grimwalker". i am utterly terrified for the implications here, and for whatever belos has planned for hunter.
it looks like belos is putting the abomatrons to good use. i think it's really cool how every episode seems to connect in some way (for example, the book on grimwalkers mentions that making one requires palistrom wood (which is something luz happens to carry around in her bag) and a galderstone (the stones bria and her crew tried to steal). this show is really good at setting up things that could potentially be important later.
it looks like hunter is still trying to get his palisman to leave him alone. he hasn't accepted that he's been chosen.
we finally got to see belos's face. apparently he's the new tumblr sexyman. that's... fun.
belos has been to the human realm before? is that because he lived there hundreds of years ago? did his ancestors? did he visit it at some point? how?
i seriously feel bad for hunter. he's trying to hard to make himself useful, to prove himself to belos.
the plot
it was really cool to see hooty, amity, willow, king, and gus all working together to take care of things in the house. the fact that we never see them go home implies that they either live in the owl house now, or they visit frequently. or maybe they're all just here for luz this one time, but i like my ideas better.
we got to meet amity's palisman! a cat is so fitting for her, and ghost is adorable. i love him.
amity walking in on eda screaming made me laugh more than i'd care to admit. i love eda so much.
the dragonball-z reference was really funny to me, even though i don't watch anime. at all. literally, i saw some of the demon slayer movie and that's it.
sick luz reminds me of infected adora (aka "drunk adora") from she-ra and the princesses of power. they have the same energy.
i thought it was cute that amity had a lil abomination in luz's room to look after her. she really cares about her gf.
i can't believe it took me an entire week to realize the "common mold" is a pun on the "common cold". goddamnit, owl crew.
while eating the portal key probably wouldn't return luz to the human realm, what would consuming titan's blood do? would it make her into an actual witch, since it's basically magic blood? wait, is that was witches are? humans who ingested titan's blood (either by mistake or on purpose)?
i'm sure everyone already knew this, but the message luz sent amity said "u r pretty". that's precious.
the cat tomogachi things are adorable. i wonder if they work if they're in different realms? that way luz and amity could text each other even when luz is with her mom. what i'm saying is, long-distance lumity.
amity constantly calling herself luz's girlfriend is hilarious, but also very relatable. i've been in a relationship for--[checks calendar] holy shit, for almost nine months!-- and i still do this.
eda still calls gus "goops"!
what is the captain's relationship with kikimora? i feel like they're somehow related.
i wonder if hunter and amity have met before. he seems to recognize her.
i think hunter deserves to ramble about his findings without interruption. poor guy never gets to talk about it.
damn, amity's powerful! she's gotten even stronger than when we first saw her.
willow is the tired mom friend. someone give her a break.
hunter being referred to as "a bad but sad boy" made me laugh a little too much. it's not wrong.
between lilith, hunter, and kikimora, i'm convinced that nobody in the emperor's coven is mentally stable.
i felt so bad for amity when she thought luz would break up with her if she didn't find the titan's blood. she would never do that, of course, but it must have been terrifying for her.
look at this picture of eda and king. i love them both so much.
Tumblr media
hunter is really good at deception. he managed to get amity to free him, before slowing her down and running away. can't say i approve, but i have to applaud his quick wit.
the captain reminds me of scorpia from she-ra and the princesses of power. the undying loyalty to her commander, no matter how unstable... it's a parallel i can't help but make.
harpy eda returns! i will never not love her design.
there are minecart chase video games on the isles?
i noticed that king perched himself on amity's shoulder, like he does with luz all the time. dunno if that was intentional, but it was cute.
as sad as it is that hunter is ready to die after failing at his mission, it's also way too much of a mood. stop booing me, i'm right.
honestly, it was strangely sweet that hunter offered to make amity a grave too. he could have just let her make her own.
this is your daily reminder than hunter seriously needs help.
luz's secret messages were probably my favorite part of the episode. it's so in character for her, and just so cute.
i think we need to take a moment to appreciate the fact that amity's holding the tomogachi thing to her heart. that's so cute. also, another adorable amity smile.
Tumblr media
ii feel like hunter's palisman is somewhat representative of his morality. it tries to push him in the right direction, even if he doesn't always listen.
the fight scene was beautifully animated. the animators of this show never cease to amaze me.
it's so important to me that amity only got scared when hunter threatened luz. she's really determined to protect her.
i thought it was adorable how luz's first reaction to everyone getting home is to hug amity. someone missed her gf, huh?
speaking of which, luz calling amity her "awesome girlfriend" was easily the cutest moment in the whole episode. amity called herself that until hunter made her realize that maybe luz didn't think that. but she did, and it's adorable.
amity seriously came in clutch with the titan's blood. what would the others do without her.
the ending
hunter's bonding with his palisman! he went from shooing it away to being happy to see it. i love that.
i'm very curious as to what the palisman's name is. i hope we find out.
i don't have any predictions for the next episode, since i've already seen it, so that's gonna be all. hope y'all enjoyed!

I’m just realizing something about Lumity...
In my ships, I generally tend to relate very strongly to one character or the other in said ship. It could be because I relate to them more, identify more with them, or simply just like them better.
However! With Lumity I can understand...both sides of the story.
I can relate so heavily to Luz on one hand. As a kid, I never really fit in and, whether I admitted it or not, that really changed me. That made me desperate to please people that I know now so I don’t lose them and I end up alone again. I can see that with Luz. She has a mother who’s ALSO a nurse (but that may just be coincidence lol). Her mom genuinely does seem to care for her and love her, yet...she understands that if Luz keeps this up she’s not going to prosper in a world that refuses to allow her to. Because of this Luz is conflicted between wanted to please her mother and society while also wanting to embark on her own journey, the one where she can be herself, the weird and wacky parts of herself as well as the kind-hearted and determined one. Deep down, Luz is terrified of getting sent home, back to the gloomy mundane world that hated her so much. The Boiling Isles is her new start, and she is so very afraid that it’s all a dream, that she really isn’t getting accepted for who she is, just like every other day of her life. Even at such a young age, society has treated her so badly that it may well have affected her actions for a lot of the series.
On the other hand we have Amity. Oh Amity. While I have never really felt pressured by my parents to get good grades, I internalized what I THOUGHT was pressure to strive for academic greatness. Of course the clear divide between her and me is that she’s most likely REALLY being pressured, but I still see some very real effects between me and her. For example, we both thought before that love was finite, that we somehow had to earn our place in order to be the best. Why did we want to be the best? Well, it could be upholding family name or my OWN name in my case. We were constantly afraid of what others thought of us, even though this came at the cost of our own self-esteem. We see this in Amity’s breakdown in the episode I can’t remember bc I haven’t finished it yet. She says something along the lines of “fighting to be the best witch” while lashing out at Luz. I’m not here to justify her actions there, that hurt Luz as much as it hurt her, but somehow...I understand. People who get further (such as Luz who basically got a scholarship into Hexside) are a constant and painful reminder that Amity (or I) somehow couldn’t reach what we so desperately wanted, that we were less deserving of love because someone came along with basically no plan at all and STILL GOT AHEAD.
And when these two parts come together, we see how society treats both of these equally talented, intelligent, and resourceful girls. Amity is the extreme end of “gifted kid culture,” while Luz serves as a foil, the “trouble kid culture.” Both of these tropes are so relatable to me, and for the longest time I could never reconcile that I could very possibly be both. But in the short time I’ve known them, Luz and Amity taught me that even they, who are opposites in almost every way, could still be some of the most similar and most different in the series.
And I’m grateful. Really, truly, I am.

Hello, yes. I would like to ask any headcannons you might have for the Diakko Moms AU pls 🥺
I’m gonna put this under read more because boy do I have A LOT thanking for enabling me anon
Angstly ones
When the Blights find out Amity’s missing, they… don't look for her. Emira and Edric are visibly distraught and worried that their sister is fucking GONE while the Blights carry on. Their reasoning is because It is a privilege to be a Blight. Amity will realize this and come crawling back. And if she doesn’t.. well that’s on her.
Emira and Edric had to look for her, with the help of Luz and Co. They cry in relief when they find her and that she’s safe.
Diana is… indifferent to the Amity’s parents, the Blights. She wasn’t very close to her mother’s other siblings like she was with aunt Daryl (well.. as close as those two are...), so whenever she meets them during family events, she treats them how she would treat other aristocrats.
Well, until she meets Amity and she starts living with them. Ever since she learned about their TRUE nature Diana just goes feral at the thought of them. (“They abuse kids, Akko!! Who’s a low enough reject to abuse CHILDREN?!”) For her, it’s on sight. She almost beat up Amity’s father because she saw him at a grocery store. Akko has to be the voice of reason for once.
Akko, surprisingly, handles her anger well. She’s polite whenever she somehow runs into them. She’s the one who handles affairs between them if they even come up as Diana swears a storm in the background. Diana asks Akko how she could possibly keep her cool and she responds, “Why should I waste time on them? Aren’t we Amity’s family now? As far as I know, they don’t even matter anymore.”
Heartwarming ones
In a way, the reason why Diana takes Amity in so quickly is because she longs for a family dynamic she never had. Her mother died when she was young, she wasn’t old enough to meet her father before he died. So seeing Amity fit so well in their little household, it makes her heart swell. In fact, she and Akko have been furiously reaching ways in which they can adopt her.
And even more secretly… she’s been looking at different engagement rings. Diana always knew she wanted to marry Akko ever since they got together in Luna Nova. But seeing her take care of Amity and how patient and understanding she is, it just solidified it for her that this was the person she wants to be with for the rest of her life. This is the person she wants to build her family with
And Amity is just, in shock. She’s never seen such a healthy adult relationship before, especially one like Diana and Akko. She sees how much they love and take care of each other and herself, even with the little things like reminding her that her lunch is on the table or always leaving a glass of water by her bedside. It’s just everything they do is laced with love and they don’t even notice it. But Amity does, everytime.
Just fun funny ones
Amity walks in on Diana looking at engagement rings in her office and she asks Amity not to tell Akko. She wants it to be perfect because Akko deserves it to be and things like that. After Amity reassures her that she won’t, she proceeds to watch, unamused, as this full grown ass women gay panics right in front of her about whether or not Akko will say yes to her
Unbeknownst to her, Amity just finished listening to the same gay panic when she also accidentally walks in on Akko practicing her proposal speech in the living room. Akko asked for pointers, obviously.
Akko and Diana are the biggest lumity supporters. They give Amity pointers and advice they can think of. And they would be helpful, if not for the fact they both have different views on how to flirt with your crush. “No! Ask her to have a study date! And without her knowing, turn it into movie night! She won’t suspect a thing!” “That’s too forward and preposterous! Here Amity, I have prepared a 5 page 60 step plan where—“
Diana and Akko know Amity and Luz aren’t dating, but they don’t miss a chance to tease her and call Luz “Amity’s girlfriend” much to her chagrin
Diana and Akko and Eda have cheesecake and tea time together. Eda gives them tips on how to be good parents, Diana takes notes. Eda always steals a bit of Akko’s cheesecake without her knowing. They’re all good friends.
In fact, Akko has always admired Eda because of her wild magic. She thinks it’s really cool and wants to learn more to make her shows more fun.
And yeah, Akko’s FAMOUS. She regularly goes to schools to do speeches, interviews and stuff. She loves every minute of it. she really feels like she’s helping people.
I have more but I’ll shut up for now (unless someone asks me to spill more 👀👀)

So for the song Buttercup what scenes do you have in mind? As in for certain lines or just the whole thing. I might do a bit of doodling thumbnails here and there. And who knows. If I get off my lazy but I might actually make an animatic.
INFO DUMPING TIME INFO DUMPING TIME
Opening lines at basically just the introduction to beta luz & amity separately. But “all my loves wrapped in shades of red” I always saw as the moment Amity snapped and bit Boscha’s hand, spilling blood and causing a scar before they broke up.
“no holds barred in the ring” I can see something that Amity is saying as she’s facing off with Luz, possibly their first fight. Likely and explanation. “so you’ll fight me” is said by Luz, egging Amity on to throw the first punch, which she does.
“give ‘em hell, give ‘em teeth” I see as just them fighting. same fight? different fight? multiple different cuts of their fights? who knows. the “like you taught me” shows Luz wiping blood off her mouth facing up bullies from her old school, plus Amity with dark figures behind her and baring her freakishly large fangs.
“seeking thrills, getting bitey” is absolutely showing Luz doing stupid shit and Amity almost, or maybe actually, biting Luz.
“when I’m in doubt” is self-explanatory. shadowy reaching doubts from one or both sides.
“pudgy face kissing lace in the backseat” doesn’t quite fit with the ‘timeline’ or whatever this is but I could only imagine the beta lumitys first kiss, which was sitting behind a 7-11 with Amity having a split lip after the two of them fought.
“winkle toss of the coin that I can’t see” isn’t anything specific. I just really liked the aesthetic of Luz flipping a coin and the camera zooming in on it and transitioning to the next scene when the coin falls away.
“where around is enough for a family” is just. Luz hanging out with her friends like Willow & Gus, plus King & Eda.
“I don’t need you inside my head” could be Amity sneering at Luz with crossed arms, the two in a verbal argument and how Luz has done nothing but trouble since coming to Hexside, especially for little miss perfect (not) over here. Or it could be Luz having a bi panic slumped against the wall bc she just realized she has a crush on Amity and Oh God Oh Fuck.
from “growing pains splaying rain” to “understand me” I don’t have much. Luz & Amity actually getting along, maybe?
“putting words in my mouth” is the two in an actual fight, not a playfight. started as one, but Amity then started insulting Luz’s mother and taking the verbal jabs a bit too far. “trying to get free” could be Luz trying to just stand down and leave bc she’s had enough but Amity wants to continue the fight. “solid punch kind of eyes make ‘em wobbly” is when Luz finally snaps and spins around and punches Amity in the face without warning, specifically when the song says “punch.” Amity stumbles back and is clutching her bleeding and broken nose.
“gothic vine growing fire in the lobby” my mind for some reason imagined Willow pissed or maybe even scared as all hell with vines shooting out and wrapping around everything as the classroom is ablaze. she is the only one in there. maybe Boscha is there too idk.
“lighten up, buttercup, get a hobby” I can see as Boscha, Amity or Luz saying to someone (one of other three I just mentioned) w a tired snarky, annoyed look.
“yeah, swing, sucker, swing” is Luz swinging a bat at Boscha’s car when she and Amity destroyed it one night.
“finish sobbing” I always see as Amity crying and clinging tightly to Luz as shes being comforted. Was it a break? did something happen? where are they? who knows, creative liberties my dudes.
got nothing for the repetitive “she’ll be fine on her own” chief. cuts of different times of random events in the au, maybe?
“I’ll be fine, I’m alright, its my body” is Amity mad and yelling about the possibility of her teeth getting ripped out and replaced with gold ones. “gonna stick to my guns like you taught me” could be her yelling at her mother with the twins in the background fearfully glancing at each other.
“holy hell, I can tell that you hate me” is Boscha saying that at Amity after possibly wiping blood off her face. she’s clearly mildly annoyed but Amity is PISSED.
the repeat of the “ill be fine im alright its my body” lines I’m not as specific for, but with more focus on Luz, definitely. the “gonna stick to my guns like you taught me” is likely her standing up to someone or something or just fighting in general with help from Eda. and on the “holy hell, I can tell that you hate me” shes joking and laughing n friendly-mocking Amity with an arm around her shoulder n Amity is rolling her eyes but smiling.
thats all I have for it rn but BRO I am just thinkin,,,,,SM about it you have no idea. if you ever do draw anything for it, and especially if you make an animatic, I would be DELIGHTED to see it!

R S T U
R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?
Hmm. I think Rick Riordan definitely serves as an inspiration for the importance of writing not just likable, but compelling characters that you want to root for. He did a masterful job writing PJO (showing that first person can work, if done correctly), and then he expanded on everything he built in subsequent series. Other than that, his humor and world building are amazing. I’ve recently drawn from a few of his takes on Greek mythology for writing Zero. To this day his works remain among my favorite, and I’m super hyped to see the live action PJO series.
S: Any fandom tropes you can’t resist?
Enemies to lovers (hello Clexa, Catradora, and Lumity) and Found Family!!! When executed well, they can be so FUN to read and/or watch. One of the many reasons I adore The Owl House. Seeing a relationship undergo so many hurdles and both characters grow from them (while falling for each other) feels incredibly fulfilling. Likewise, Found Family is probably the most real and heartwarming (at times heart wrenching) trope there is. I strongly believe in the validity and superiority of this trope, and would lay my life down to defend it.
T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?
Love triangles are a horror among horrors. You almost always know from the beginning who the protagonist is gonna end up with and I hate them so much. I find it much more compelling to focus on the highs and lows of a couple getting together and staying together. Relationships take work, and imo love triangles only serve to amp up drama that could be stirred up in other, better ways.
U: Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
Okay this was hard. Let me be clear that I have many favorite fic writers. Everyone brings something different to the table. For now, I’ll highlight these peeps I am fond of.
@tiredandjaded - I binged their make my heart your home series the other day (taking a break from my lumity craze) and it was nothing short of incredible. Imo they’re the CEO of Found Family. The way Jade writes Luz’s dynamic with the Owl House residents, and her friends, is so detailed, descriptive, and poignant (I don’t remember what that means atm but it sounds right). Jade has a knack for picking up on the potential tension between characters and creating meaningful conflict that feels super fitting and hits where it hurts (the heart, duh). Cannot wait to see what she writes next.
@thefoolsyousee - I have a lot of respect for Fools cause he has writing range, and it shows. From fluff to bittersweet to angst. Not only does he have big brain fic ideas (Dinner at Blight Manor I’m looking at you) but he’s able to capture the personality and depth of characters extremely well. Not just the main trio, but side characters like the Troublemakers who we don’t see much of in canon-- yet he expands on them in a way that makes sense and works really well. Once again, I am citing his After Blood and Souls series because it’s probs my favorite toh series, and I love how he handles the canon divergence possibilities.
@eleenadume - I am in awe of Eleena. She writes... so much. So many words. And they’re all SO GOOD! The length/quality of her writing is nothing short of incredible. She’s an extremely skilled writer who’s adept at weaving plot threads and great dialogue together like she’s Arachne (meant to be a positive comparison, lol). Not only does she overuse the ‘additional tags’ option in ao3 to a hilarious degree (My personal favorite is WHY IS THERE SO MUCH CRYING IN THIS FIC WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME in Locked Out), but the amount of love and energy she pours into her stories is so clear. The little details, amazing character interactions (hello Luz and Camila), and more.

So I finally watched The Owl House
Tumblr media
I wish I’d do this with every show I watch but it seems like only a lucky few get the She-Ra style rant of love treatment. Well, I finally watched The Owl House after my dash having been flooded for the past couple of weeks and I have some thoughts. Slight spoilers below.
First off, I love the whole vibe. I had a faint idea that this show would be about magic but I didn’t know much before watching - except for one thing, we’ll get back to that. The way it builds its world and deals with magic, though, is so refreshing. And I just have to mention here that I laughed out loud at all the Harry Potter jabs, they were hilarious. I expect we’ll learn much more about magic and its users as the show goes on but as far as the first season goes the introduction was really solid. It strikes the right balance between leaving things to the imagination but being more than “wave wand and magic happens”. It’s colourful, it’s creative, and I even like the ovens and school tracks, despite knowing that the story is about not conforming to those. It makes the Boiling Isles unique and make me want to learn more about the world even beyond the characters and the main plot.
TOH also presents a world that’s much more macabre than I was expecting from the Disney Channel, not that that’s a bad thing. I found myself thinking of Adventure Time at certain points and pondering, at scary moments, how kids would react. I think kids love this, though, and besides, nothing can be more scarring than Courage the Cowardly Dog was. It’s not that terrifying, of course, just daring enough to stand out. Overall the show has what I would classify as more of a Cartoon Network vibe than a Disney Channel one, but I admittedly haven’t really been following many Disney shows. In any case, I dig it. I dig the weird creatures and the beautiful backgrounds and I appreciate how alive the Boiling Isles feel. It doesn’t take long for TOH to immerse you in its world so I’m for one am hooked.
I make a big deal of loving the world itself because rarely does it happen that world-building stands out to me so soon in a series. I do love carefully constructed fantasy worlds but for the most part I’m more interested in the characters themselves. Here, I’d say it’s close to being a 50-50, which is something that even Avatar can’t say with its elemental masterclass in world-building (which is mostly because the character depth there is unrivaled but still). So yeah, kudos to The Owl House for achieving this. From Luz’s glyph magic to the covens and the titans, I’m excited to explore this world more.
Now, the characters. The real meat of any story. Starting with Luz, I have seen some criticism that she’s a generic hero so far, the “I’m a weirdo”, heart of gold, upbeat variety. I don’t think this makes her bland, though I do admit that being told over and over again that she’s weird makes me less engaged, even she’s also shown to be weird. I like the message of her arc and that the chosen one trope was deconstructed almost right away. I like that she’s relentlessly enthusiastic and kind to people and I like that she doesn’t have to get more bitter in order to get development. Instead, she learns from her mistakes but keeps being herself and brings her unique spirit to the Boiling Isles. We need protagonists like Luz, not just because she’s latina and bisexual but because her learning process doesn’t involve cynicism. Sure, there is a lot she needs to learn but her heart is presented as an asset and a sort of source of magic. I’m excited to see where her story goes, for sure.
Tumblr media
I’m gonna write briefly about the other characters before I get to my favourite one. Eda is super cool and I quickly got over the fact that she’s not Beatrice Horseman, lol. She embodies such a youthful energy but the show also allows her to be a middle-aged woman comfortable in her own body - well, owl curse notwithstanding. Also, her relationship with Lilith is one of my favourite parts of the whole show. Eda subverts so many of the mentor’s traditional tropes and I’m here for it. I kinda thought she was the villain based on her design and when I didn’t know anything about the show but hey, happy she’s not.
I don’t think I’d even seen a picture of King before starting to watch the series and at first I thought I’d get tired of him real quick. He’s the type of character who can get really annoying instead of endearing really fast if he’s not given any depth or charm, both by way of writing and voice acting. Luckily, I ended up liking King and his antics. His design is indeed adorable and Alex Hirsch is a genius. The only time I felt like he went too far was, perhaps surprisingly, in the book writing episode, “Sense and Insensitivity”, but even there going too far was the point. So yeah, King’s also great, there’s much potential in his backstory and general character.
Alright so really quickly, other characters: Willow and Gus are generic best friend characters and though they already have other things going on, I expect more development as the series progresses. I like that Willow is actually super powerful, just not in the way people expected her to and Gus is clearly also talented despite being younger. I’d be happy to see more of the other kids, get more familiar with Hexside. Edric and Emira are fun characters but they were really shitty in their first episode so I was kind of surprised they weren’t more of a nuisance to Amity later on. I’m all for supportive siblings so I wouldn’t mind a good relationship between the three but I feel like it’s more complicated than that with the Blights.
Finally, I also have to mention that Hooty is... well, quite something, isn’t he. Much like with King, I thought he’d be much more annoying but somehow the show is self-aware enough that it makes Hooty tolerable. I’m almost always torn between feeling sorry for him and being thoroughly weirded out, and I think that’s the intention? It’s fitting that he’s the titular character as he embodies the tone of The Owl House well in my eyes. He’s there for the comedy but there’s just enough there to hint at something more. Very bizarre, strong CN vibes, here for it.
Now that I’ve written a paragraph more about Hooty than I expected to, let’s talk about Amity. Listen, no other character stood a chance to be my favourite as soon as I learned Mae Whitman voiced Amity. That woman gave me Katara so now I have a quasi Pavlovian response to her voice. I’d also say that I knew more about Amity going into the show than I did about any other aspect of TOH. I heard somewhere that she started out as an antagonist, I knew her parents were abusive, and the reason the show blew up on my dash and my general online bubble is the Grom episode. Lucikly I only saw stills of Lumity beneath the crescent moon but the pure Sapphic energy of that was enough to gay migrate me to this show. I’d like to note it here though that The Owl House is a good show in and of itself, the queer rep is just a nice extra. I’m gonna spend the next couple hundred words going on about Amity and her crush on Luz but I don’t value only that. The Gay Migration is great and rep is great but I’m also grateful to have a solid show behind it. That being said.
I’m a total dyke for Amity Blight. I was very biased before even being introduced to her character but I genuinely find her to be fascinating and she has great potential. She’s developing quite quickly, like much of The Owl House, but an arc not being stretched out for several seasons before getting a rushed conclusion is refreshing. The progress hits all the beats and the only note I have is that I want more. She starts out as a generic bully but the opportunity to be more is there from the beginning. We find out early on that she used to be friends with Willow, we see that she works hard and values honest work. When she becomes Luz’s rival, it doesn’t last long before Amity shows that she’s open to new perspectives. That’s not to defend or even justify her earlier and nastier moments, Amity was rude to both Luz and Willow. But through all that, she becomes a complex character who does bad things but isn’t a bad person and grows when she gets the space to. I think that’s neat.
Tumblr media
Luz’s decision to befriend her might be cartoon logic but as someone who subscribes to the “kill them with kindness” ideology, I can totally relate. Amity’s softer side doesn’t take long to show and “Lost in Language” is such a great episode to show how complex people can be. Again, I was already biased when it came to Amity but she’s consistently shown to be capable of self-reflection and growth when others give her the chance. I think her past and potential future friendship with Willow is a great way to explore many different topics and I’m trusting the show to do it justice. I also can’t wait to meet the rest of the Blights, if only to get me some angst and further develop Amity. I half expected Grom to take the form of her parents. Too dark for Disney? Well, we don’t know Amity’s dynamic with her parents, exactly, but there’s so much subtext and potential. I love what we’ve already seen from her but I’d also say that she has one of the greatest potentials in the show.
Another way in which this potential manifests is Lumity, of course. Again, they’re developing quite quickly but that doesn’t mean it’s rushed. I’d love to explore Amity’s crush more and what Luz means to her. The Grom episode surpassed all expectations, still and gifs don’t do the stunning dance sequence justice. The animation is so smooth, the colours are amazing, the music is on point and the Sapphic vibes complete the picture. Poetic cinema, truly. Molly Ostertag and Noelle Stevenson are really out there giving wlw animation fans everything we ever wanted, huh. It also warms my heart that the crush is made very clear, not just by Luz’s name being on the note but by the delightful gay disaster that is Amity in “Wing It Like Witches”. I never thought I’d ever see such a relatable useless lesbian in animation so kudos to Dana Terrace and the whole crew. Wow, how far we’ve come.
So yeah, Amity is a funky little lesbian and I’m a 100% here for her gay disaster moments, but I also love where Lumity is going thematically. They’re great as foils and I’m hoping that they won’t get together at the very end. Look, I love me some Bubbline, Korrasami and Catradora, but it’s time a wlw relationship had the chance to exist onscreen and not only in the last episode. The Owl House has a great chance to do that. I know the creators don’t want romance to be the main focus and I respect that, I think the world they created deserves to showcased and explored to its full potential. Lumity could be a great subplot though, as representation on the one hand and as a thematically interesting dynamic on the other. Plus, Luz and Amity are just cute and sometimes, it’s as simple as that. Oh, and also the whole Little Miss Perfect thing? One of the best fandom discoveries I’ve made in a long while. Not only is the song truly perfect for Amity, I love that Joriah Kwamé went on to write Ordinary as well. This right here is why fandom is beautiful.
I think that’s about it for season 1 initial thoughts. The moral can be a bit on the nose at times, especially in the early episodes but the show is ultimately for kids and I appreciate its message. Interesting world and magic system, good characters, great potential for later seasons, just a well put together show that I’m really glad I started watching. I’m kind of sorry I didn’t keep up with season 1 as it was coming out but I would not have been able to wait between episodes. The pacing is good overall, deffo moves fast but I wouldn’t call it rushed, and the “filler” episodes still add something to the story. I’m not sure if I would still feel like the show moves at a fast pace if I hadn’t binged it but in any case it isn’t rushed, the necessary beats are all there and have time to sit. I’m going to watch as it comes out from now on so hopefully season 2 will arrive early next year.
Oh, and: I’m very new to the fandom, barely just found out about Little Miss Perfect, so any and all tidbits, fun facts, and fic recommendations are welcome. Also if you just want to chat my inbox is always open!
