I already sent an ask like this a while ago, but in the Half-Brothers AU, do you think Hiccup the Second's backstory would have any impact on the legend of the Lycanwing? "Boy raised by dragons thinks he is a dragon" just seems like the sort of thing that would get retold and exaggerated over the years until it becomes "man turns into dragon at night" to me.

This is an EXCELLENT question and I've been meaning to get around to it for a while!! I've recently just rewatched Bad Moon Rising, and I've got a lot of thoughts on the connection between the Lycanwing and Hiccup 2!

In this au, Hiccup the Second will have indeed been the kid that started the myth. When Grimbeard brought him back to Tomorrow, the people there would spread rumors about the wild boy and how dragonlike he was, and then after a while those rumors would snowball into idea that he was a supernatural creature that could turn into a dragon, a changeling of some sort, because it was impossible for a human to get along with dragons that well. The idea that Hiccup 2 could turn into a dragon during a full moon to go eat your children became a popular idea that spurred people's alienation of him all the way until he was killed, and some people don't even believe he really died.

This ghost story is still popular to tell among Hooligans. It's been repurposed to keep the village kids out of the woods at night to keep them from getting snatched up by dragons. (Even Elder used to scare Younger with it when they were small!) There are multiple different stories about Lycanwings ala the rumor mill (like the story of Kessler Gobber told them in Bad Moon Rising) but ultimately, Hiccup 2 would have been the pioneering incident.

These days Elder is highly skeptical of the stories. Everyone else still puts a little stock into it, though (even Younger!). Vikings are quite superstitious, after all!

your recent Krogan/viggo/hiccup thing made me think of something:) (more lycanwing!Krogan brainrot ofc BUT) even though viggo and Krogan have Hiccup captive. They’re arguing, the only thing that gives Krogan away as Krogan to hiccup is his height and his voice because of how he’s layered on clothing and is wearing a mask (For what purpose, Hiccup is unsure of, until the kissing part, and Hiccup gets the barest glimpse of Krogan’s mouth, and realizes that it’s too wide and lacks any human traits (teeth are too sharp, etc)

And since Krogan is in his first change, Viggo has had no clue what’s going on either since Krogan has essentially been hiding his body from him. Viggo thought it was odd, but in itself Krogan is already an odd man, so he just thought he was overstimulated or something. All that falls apart when Krogan literally grows wings in front of them.

Perhaps Hiccup talks them into letting him go so he and Fishlegs can take a look at Krogan (perhaps not) but of course, with Hiccup’s curious nature, he wants to know what’s happening, and he also is kind, and he can tell that the whole ordeal is hurting and weighing on Krogan heavily. (Both physically and mentally.)

Also now I’m just thinking of Hiccup doing the hand thing to Krogan and Viggo looking on like tf is this lol! But it would be so cool for Krogan to just sprout wings and Hiccup remembers Gobber’s story and realises. Or he’s just watching them argue and sees his mouth, the gears turn in his mind and plans form. After that hopefully they work to help him!

Also sidenote but I’ve been thinking on vigcup venomcup (with Howl by Florence and the Machine) recently with Viggo saving Hiccup and this got me thinking about Krogan being the one to break Hiccup out if the deathgripper venom thing, like Hiccup being tasked to attack lycanwing (or normal) Krogan who recognises him and decides to help, alternatively lycanwing Krogan under deathgripper venom and Hiccup helps him or tries too! Now I gotta find a song for that lol (maybe ‘Fire Fire’ by Steam Powered Giraffe, ‘Thing’ by Steampianist, ‘Closer’ covered by In This Moment (quite a lot of their songs could be really good for Lycanwing Krogan/Hiccup like ‘Beast Within’ and ‘Comanche’ or just any really), ‘Brick by Boring Brick’ by Paramore - that’s also in my lone-rider Hiccup playlist,,,i may make a whole playlist for this (or Lycanwing AUs) too now lol but these are the ones coming to mind rn)

Sidenote Sidenote ‘only human’ by Steam Powered Giraffe is a cool song for the them! Like Krogan singing about how he’s a tool (even if in the song it’s more domestic and for him it’s more an assassin) and Hiccup reminding him that he’s human

A Lycanwing Hiccup Idea based on Eda's Owl Beast Form where Hiccup was given Lycanwing Venom as a child and whenever when he is stressed, he turns into a dragons and goes on a rampage. Let me know what you think.

THERE IS LEGITIMATE PROOF OF A SECTION ON NIGHT FURIES IN THE DRAGON EYE!!

In ‘Gone Gustav Gone’, Hiccup is checking different combinations in the Dragon Eye. He said he was going to try finding the Night Fury section; says to use the Monstrous Nightmare gem, the Night Fury switch, and obviously having been activated by Toothless’ flame. 

We all remember this moment, the Dragon Eye goes dark afterward. 

It wasn’t that there wasn’t anything to find. I want to believe it’s because they only had a single lense. There hadn’t been the lycanwing debacle, and they found another lense at the end of that very episode. 

Maybe, Hiccup needed more lenses to have seen the section, maybe another dragon fire from one of the Strike Class. But I’m going to fucking bring it up again. The section Viggo opened the Dragon Eye too at the end of Maces & Talons pt 2. WHICH HAS THE LITERAL IMAGE OF A NIGHT FURY. 

Yes I really am just stating the obvious. I outline because we were purposely deprived of this information, just because they wanted to keep the Night Fury mystery “resolvement” for The Hidden World. Yet they still fucking left us hanging and with unanswered questions.

But yes, and I KNOW I said it in another post (or who knows could be one in my drafts, my memory’s lacking): 

THE DRAGON EYE HAD TO BE THE ONE SOURCE OF INFORMATION WHICH WOULD HAVE HAD INFORMATION ON NIGHT FURIES

Anyways. Art for my au where Krogan gets burnt pretty bad but ALSO. In. In love with the idea that since I headcanon Krogan as being part lycanwing to explain just how BIG he is and how feral he can be, that he has eyes that are much like a cats in that they glow in the dark and teeth that are extremely sharp, and where everyone else fears Krogan for these traits, Hiccup finds solace in Krogan’s scales and his sharp teeth and those eyes that are a bit too draconic to be naturally a full human because Hiccup finds those exact traits in Toothless and they were wrong about dragons being nothing but monsters so it can also be the same with Krogan.

Krogan doesn’t seem to know much about his origins, which bums hiccup out a bit but of course, it Krogan is good at one thing, it is listening, and it is also teaching. He may be gruff and kind of moody at times, but Hiccup understands it comes more from his past and the general distrust Krogan has towards other people than it does out of being intentionally mean.

Hiccup also thinks Krogan is really good at snuggling, not just because of the cloak but because he’s muscular, yes, but also soft and importantly very tall so his arms can just wrap around him perfectly (even though Krogan sometimes has nightmares and insists on squeezing him as if he’s afraid Hiccup will fly away; it hurts but it’s not like it’s any worse than his father’s hugs.)

Ngl, this position is the one I've constantly drawn them in every time I want to draw them hugging or smth we'll ignore that it's because I can't draw people interacting at all-

Just... Krocup physical intimacy for the win. They may not do it often (cause Hiccup is already awkward enough as it is without adding Krogan's... particular issues to the mix) but when they do, they it well.

It's the story I'm writing for day 7 of Winter Whumperland. (Screw the deadline and that it's over a month late.) Here's the first scene!

Hiccup pressed a hand to his arm, cursing under his breath. Watching the blood trickle out from between his fingers, he knew that he was doomed.

Well, if he was correct about what had bitten him. He hadn’t seen much of it but red eyes and dark wings, but the shape had been almost humanoid, a mix between a dragon and a person.

A Lycanwing. A human who had been bitten by one and was then cursed to turn into a dragon. 

Berk hunted dragons. Berk killed dragons. Berk was at war with dragons.

And Hiccup, in his stupid wanderings, had been bitten by the only one in existence that could possibly turn someone into a dragon.

He wracked his brain for what to do next. Could he return to his home like this? Lie about what had happened? Would anyone know the bite mark though? The shape of the teeth? What if he was found out?

Too many questions. Too many! And he was losing blood.

The only choice Hiccup had was to go home. So, gritting his teeth, Hiccup picked himself up from where he’d fallen against a boulder, and began the trek back. 

He’d been out looking for, well, dragons. Something to kill, something to make his father proud. 

His father would not be proud of this. Hiccup’s mind was racing with all the horrible things Berk could do to him over this, what they would do to him. 

The sun was setting, and with it, his grasp on human life.

Getting back into my shenanigans and a 'Dagur working through prison trauma w/ Hiccup' fic reminded me of an old angsty idea @reallyprofoundkryptonite and I had for the Kin All the Same AU. Also nutmeg idea inspired by that one @evilwriter37 Heather fic. (I'm almost certain it was one of their fics at least-)

The last few weeks have been... Hell, to put it lightly. The panic of Magnus' initial disappearance, followed by the anger and fear of learning he'd been taken by Grimmel, and then the fight to get him back. A fight that was doomed to be a bloodbath from the second the hunter dared lay his hands on Magnus. For rather obvious reasons, in retrospect. No sane person, or person even vaguely aware of the consequences, would reasonably try. And for good reason.

Viggo, Dagur, and Krogan saw Magnus as their own. They'd worked together to raise the boy, and they didn't tolerate their son so much as being insulted. Dagur has thrown men overboard for challenging what Magnus says in regards to the dragons he handled. He's struck a few idiots with an axe for suggesting the boy be used as 'stress relief' during some particularly rough weeks at sea. Krogan has outright killed a few men, his own flyers and Viggo's hunters alike, for similar reasons. One poor bastard thought it would be funny to grab the boys chest once. There wasn't enough left of him to even throw to the fishes, and Krogan's clothes were soaked in so much blood you'd believe they had always been that red. Viggo, ever the voice of reason (about 90% of the time at least), was less violent. But he's still fired men on the spot for making the wrong comment, even jokingly, about Magnus.

The battle, the raid of Grimmel's camp, had been a gory mess. A vague plan of action, but endless violence otherwise. Men had been ripped apart like paper or gutted like fish. Broken bones, charred bodies. Even Hiccup refused to hold back, letting the dragons fight however they thought best. Letting the dragons, for a few moments at least, sink back into their wild nature. Some men had bites taken out of them, courtesy of Krogan and Hookfang. Grimmel himself had barely escaped, and even when he had he'd been one arm and almost an entire camp short. Those that survived the attack would be permanently scarred. Permanently mutilated, and carrying the memory of violence they've probably never even imagined before.

Magnus wasn't in good condition, physically or mentally. He was blind in one eye now, a fact that made both Viggo and Krogan's hearts ache. They both knew what that was like, of course. The scales around his left eye that created a birthmark-like appearance, that marked Magnus as having Lycanwing blood like Krogan did, had also been flayed off. Cut and pulled. Separated from skin and muscle in a manner that was grotesque, yet neat. Showing Grimmel had drawn out the process. Broken bones that had begun healing wrong and needed to be painfully readjusted. Dehydration. The list seemed extensive, yet far too short, considering this was Grimmel who did it.

"Do you need anything else?" The voice is soft and smooth. Very characteristic of Viggo, but lacking the usual edge it carried. There's a pause. A moment of silent consideration, then a shuddering breath.

"Nutmeg. A large dose." The answer is straightforward, like Magnus has been thinking about it for a while now. Which, in retrospect, he probably has. He'd picked up a fair bit of Viggo's planning ahead habit over the years. And, of course, being the resident healer of the hunter's gave him plenty of knowledge.

The younger ones in the room, helping monitor and tend to Magnus's injuries and mental state, don't understand the implications. But Viggo does. It makes him feel nauseous and enraged all at once. It makes him feel guilty as well.

"... Grimmel..?" The question is asked by Krogan this time, in a clipped manner. Like the dark skinned man is just barely holding himself back from screaming and punching a wall in a mix of grief and rage. A simple nod is the answer, and then Krogan is storming out. Ryker follows. Viggo swallows the lump forming in his throat, and nods to Hiccup and Fishlegs. A silent gesture for them to go get what Magnus requested. Dagur and Viggo stick with the boy. Until Krogan's yelling grows audible, at least, and then Viggo leaves to try and help his brother calm the man.

Dagur refuses to leave the boys' side. He sticks by Magnus like a tick to a dog, fingers carding through reddish brown hair. They sit mostly in silence. There isn't much to say. No amount of comforting words or promises seemed to be enough. No vows for revenge felt right. The thought of telling the boy about his time in prison doesn't seem right at the moment either, and Dagur highly doubts Magnus wants to hear how his adoptive father had gone through a similar thing in the first place. It would likely hurt the boy more than anything else.

Krogan and Viggo returned at some point. Ryker left to go make some food and to give the immediate family some time. It's been weeks since they've all been together, after all. So they're given time to just be there for each other. Krogan, the man was surprisingly cuddly when he trusted someone, kept Magnus up against his side in a protective embrace. Dagur crowded the boys' other side, resting his head on Magnus's shoulder. Viggo sits next to Krogan, fingers lightly interlocked with the boys own as a reminder that he's here as well.

And when the bleeding starts, when it's clear Magnus needs his dad's more than anything else right now, they stay. They wouldn't dare leave, no matter how much the evidence of the horror their son experienced hurt. Their pain is miniscule in comparison.
