It is believed that this name originates from the fact that it was a signal for hunters to prepare for the upcoming cold winter by going hunting. A new Pokémon was revealed in a rather strange way

Poltchageist, ghost/grass type. Seems to be a Kitakami Convergent species. Imo it's already a vast improvement over the original.

Look at him. He wants you to drink his juices. Weirdo. Pervert, in fact. I'm calling the police.

But the reveal and hype up for Poltchageist was more interesting imo, because it was a whole complicated thing.

After Worlds, select Pokémon Influencers such as Joe/Serebii, Austin John, GlitchXCity, etc were given the opportunity to participate and learn in the proper ways of making macha, including proper cup holding, manners, etc. At the end they were given boxes that said "August 22nd" and contained a Macha tea set.

Overall a creative approach to revealing a Pokémon, although they really should have just said that guy died- they say it in the games after all.

Poltchageist has ANOTHER new ability called Hospitality, where it restores a little of its ally's HP upon entering battle. Competetive is probably going to have a bunch of these coming up.

Something else to note is that it's act of repairing is similar to the real life art of Kintsugi

See the golden cracks? Kintsugi is art made from repairing something broken using a laquer made of gold, silver, or platinum- the art isn't meant to hide or disguise the cracks, but actually highlight the effort taken to CORRECT the mistake. Although it seems like Poltchageist just does it and takes some life energy as payment.

Overall not bad, I'll be real. I still feel like Convergent species are just off brand Regional Variants but for padding out the dex, but I believe it vastly improves the original design- being fair though, I absolutely hated the original. I may actually catch one.

I do wish the name was more like Machageist instead. Poltchageist sounds too similar to Polteageist imo and I thought that's what they were saying.

4 kinds of teas

Im currently reading the book "Herbal Tea Magic for the Modern Witch. A Practical Guide to Healing Herbs, Tea Leaf Reading and Botanical Spells" by Elsie Wild.

I thought i would share what Wild wrote on tea, spices & herbs, their magical and medical benefits and their warnings.

these entries in this post are from Chapter 2, pages 15-18. i'll make a seperate post or few for more entries!

Teas

While there are hundreds of different kinds of tea in the world, there are four main types of tea: black, green, oolong and white.

Black tea

One of the most versatile teas, black tea is a more oxidised version of green tea, with a stronger flavour and more caffeine (though much less than a cup of coffee). Because of its full flavour, black tea acts as a great base for most tea blends and potions. Black tea originated in China in the seventeenth century when the Chinese started fermenting tea leaves to extend their storage life. Black tea came to Europe in the eighteenth century, charming the British aristocracy and eventually all of England. Black tea is the main ingredient in classic tea blends such as English breakfast tea and Earl Grey tea.

Magical Properties: Strength, stability, endings, finished business, expelling negative energy, energy boost, courage, mental clarity, grounding, cleansing. Associated with the earth element and winter.

Health Properties: Boosts metabolism, boosts immunity, relieves stress, improves bone health, eases asthma, kills bacteria, lowers cholesterol, lowers risk of diabetes, increases energy, decreases digestive activity.

Medical Warnings: Pregnant people should not drink more than two cups of black tea a day

Different Types: English breakfast, Earl Grey, Chai, Assam, Darjeeling.

Brewing tip: For the best taste, brew black tea in about 180-210f (thats 82.2-98.8c) water and let it steep for four to eight minutes, depending on the blend.

Green Tea

A staple for any tea lover, green tea is made from the unoxidized leaves of the camellia sinensis plant. It's called green tea because the leaves are harvested when they are slightly withered and immediately cooked before they can oxidize, thus keeping their green colouring. Camellia sinensis leaves for green tea are harvested three times a year to get the highest quality. Green tea was initially used for medical purposes to treat a range of illnesses. For many decades, green tea was a symbol of status and wealth due to its cost and lengthy preparation time. But today green tea can be enjoyed by anyone. Matcha, green tea's popular cousin, is made from the ground powder of shade-grown green tea leaves, which is whisked together with hot water in a ceramic bowl. Macha was originally used in traditional japanese tea ceremonies but is now popular everywhere.

Magical Properties: Healing, love, mindfulness, passion, cleansing, regulating energy, wealth. Associated with the fire element and spring.

Health Properties: Boosts metabolism, improves brain function, supports sexual health, supports heart health, rich in antioxidants. Could also increase longevity.

Medical Warnings: None.

Different Types: Chunmee green tea, gunpowder green tea, jasmine green tea and matcha.

Brewing Tip: Green tea tastes best when brewed at a mild water temperature (about 180f (which is 82.2c)) and steeped for about three minutes. Water that is too hot could make the tea bitter.

Oolong Tea

While black, green and white tea are easily recognisable to most people, oolong tends to throw people off. Sure, you've heard of it, but what is it? Oolong is a semi-oxidized tea made from the leaves of the camellia sinensis plant. The amount of time the tea is oxidised varies, which makes each oolong flavour unique. Oolong tea gets its name from two Chinese words meaning "black dragon", a reference to the way the leaves are rolled into curly shapes resembling dragons.

Magical Properties: Wisdom, beaty, emotional balance and connection, romance, friendship, serenity, divination, reflection. Associated with the water element and autumn.

Health Properties: Lowers blood pressure, improves sleep, improves gut health, increases bone density, prevents tooth decay. Increases alertness and improves your mood.

Medical Warnings: None.

Brewing Tip: Oolong tastes best when its brewed at a water temp of 185-206f (85-96.9c) and steeped for around four minutes. Oolong tea actually tastes better the more you re-steep it.

White Tea

A highly delicate tea made from the unopened buds of the camellia sinensis plant, white tea is produced with minimal processing during a short harvesting season, creating its unique floral flavour and its expensive price tag. White tea, which originated in the Fujian Province of China during the sixteenth century, has become popular for its taste, health benefits and magical properties.

Magical Properties: Purification, protection, clarity, realization, meditation, cleansing, psychic abilities, youth, blessings, new beginnings, happiness, wisdom. Associated with the air element summer and moon magic.

Health Properties: reduces risk of heart disease, lowers insulin resistance, protects against osteoporosis, helps skin damage, reduces risk of cancer, rich in antioxidants.

Medical Warnings: None.

Different types: Silver Needle (BaiHao YinZhen), White Peony (Bai Mu Dan), Tribute Eyebrow (Gong Mei), Long Life Eyebrow (Shou Mei).

Brewing Tip: Because of its delicate nature, white tea should be made with 175-85f (79.4-85c) water and steeped for one to three minutes maximum or it will turn bitter.

Paper Supply

The case that's always at her hip has approx. 550 sheets of printer paper in it at the start of a mission. (When they have extremely limited resources pre-Wandering Sea arrival, this amount begins to dwindle until she's out halfway through LB2. That triggers a whole breakdown but that's a story for another day.)

Prior to Orleans, her magecraft could only go so far in reinforcing the paper to be durable against water and retardant against flame. If the paper is damaged before she can apply magecraft, she is shit out of luck.

Da Vinci begins providing her with perfectly fireproof and waterproof paper after fires in Fuyuki screwed Macha over. ("I wondered what that case you asked me to make was for! Why didn't you also ask me to enchant the printer paper you stole? I'm a genius, you know?")

Paper Magecraft (Papercraft) Capabilities

Macha is well-versed in reinforcing and altering paper and paper-related products (papyrus, amate; also including some other things made from plant fiber like cardboard and filters). Their structures are so inherently understood to her that she doesn't have to think about them when changing them. Fibrous structures could in theory become her overall speciality with training, but perhaps due to a strange side effect of her family's Thaumaturgical Attribute ("Obsession"), she stubbornly always tries to stick to paper.

With the listed products, Macha can:

Fold it any way she likes

Extend the fibers to a certain degree

Overlap fibers to fuse pieces together

Sharpen them until they cut like a blade

Make the fibers strong enough to stop bullets

In the same vein, apply a degree of waterproof and flame retardant properties to paper that does not already have these qualities (if she obtains such types of paper she can push the quality to a higher degree as well)

Control paper she's already modified from short distances

She can apply these capabilities to many different things. Because she often makes things out of paper using her magecraft, she calls her own talent "papercrafting". In addition to all of this, she can recreate a lot of things she sees with paper, as she spent 20 years of her life doing exactly that ad nauseum.

When it comes to measuring the paper amount required for a given craft in writing, printer paper is used as the standard; in other words, "guess how much is needed when one material is a head tall and thin". The more thickness+surface area = more paper needed. The larger a craft, the more magical energy she needs as well. A paper recreation of herself would take two and a half Machas worth of energy as a standard.

Paper can be reused as long as it is not heavily damaged and is safely returned to her case.

Magus Stats and Magecraft Knowledge

Both her Origin and Element are Paper. This is caused by the aforementioned Thaumaturgical Attribute, which enables mages of the Schmied lineage to have their Element be their Origin from birth. They will also deeply and inherently understand the qualities of things connected to their Origin, and any magecraft related to it will require significantly less preparation to pull off (in many cases only necessary materials are required).

Her Circuit quantity is average, quality slightly above average—a second-rate magus. She can support many Servants on her own, but backup is required from Chaldea to bring out the best of some. Of course in any case a Command Spell will always be what will bring out a Servant's full might.

She primarily relies on her papercraft. Until Tanya properly taught her before Septem, Macha didn't even know how to use her Command Spells and Mystic Codes. (This is mostly excused by Macha being omitted from a lot of basic civilian training due to Romani prioritizing treating her mental & physical ailments in time for her to be reasonably ready for the second Rayshift experiment.)

She also struggles with Shadow Servant summoning until America, where she's basically forced to use Shadows anyways because she's Servant-less for a significant period of time.

It's not until Camelot that she begins to fully understand the range of potential both the Command Spells and MCs have. By the Lostbelts she's started trying out other magecraft, particularly anything that gives her advantages in combat.

In Combat

Macha is the most confrontational Master in the team (prior to her even more confrontational little brother joining). While she has enough sense to delegate most Servant fights to her own Servants, she will often get directly involved in many monster and human battles of her own initiative. Even when relying on a Servant, she will provide offensive backup when the opportunity presents itself.

She likes to fashion her paper into rudimentary swords or throw sharpened pieces at enemies like throwing knives. She is strangely well-versed in the ways of killing humans through cutting and slashing. Macha has trouble with people with more combat experience than her...in the beginning, at least. Over time is a different story...

She can block unenchanted physical weapons of human make with her paper on her own by making shields on the fly. Defense against enchanted weapons and spiritual attacks requires backup from a Servant like Medea, and even with such backup, defense against divine constructs or any blows from a Noble Phantasm are extremely difficult if not outright impossible. Even daring to try and defend from a Servant's punch like this could seriously injure or kill her.

This all is not to say that she deliberately gets into fights, however. She actually tries to mitigate the amount of battle encounters the team has through careful planning, and is all for eliminating potential threats before they're actualized. Since she's usually trying to do this alone without anyone noticing, this won't always work. Sometimes she won't even be honest with her intentions with her own comrades on impulse. She's only honest about her plans with her Servants. ("our insane master is plotting something utterly off the rails again" - macha's servants; "LMFAO" - archer (oda nobunaga) (macha's servant))

We got talking on FSA about Sailor Suns and how they (shared with Earths) are almost universally baby's first Sailor Moon OC (nostalgic), and then I decided to throw a "Sun Party" to celebrate all the Sailor Suns, old and new, that we've made.

So I decided to make some new art for my first SMOC ever, but I lacked time and energy so I used a base. Much easier, and more in the spirit of things really. I've actually redesigned her this year as my Sailor Macha for the ISA, but I wanted to do something with her original design.

I used SkyJynx's Shoujo Base and also decided to make a matching icon for her too using the 90s anime icon base. The blue sky background is a free IbisPaint material.

🧭 - What led you to your practice?

It's a long story, so here's a much abridged version. I used to be Catholic and made it all the way through Confirmation, during which I took the name Brigid, because her stories just resonated with me for some reason. But when I was a junior in high school, I was trying desperately to feel represented as an afab person in my religion while at the same time delving heavily into witchcraft, which led be briefly to a sort of Catholic-Wicca syncretism, then just Wicca for a few months, then when I realized Wicca didn't make any gd sense to me, I switched over to polytheism proper. Some advice I found initially when I started looking was to look into the gods of your ancestors, so I started looking into Irish gods and Celtic Recon and I've been here ever since. For a few years I was syncretic with Norse Polytheism, but it feels like that chapter in my life is closed. Right now I'm focused on the Gaelic gods, but I also worship/work with local land spirits, Hades, Brythonic spirits, and will occasionally throw a petition to a saint on behalf of one of my Catholic family members

I'm devoted to Brighid 🥰🥰🥰 You'll note that I took her name even before I was pagan, so I like to think I've been her creature since the beginning

The second deity (I'm using that term because 'spirit' doesn't feel right) I devote a ton of mental space to is the Mississippi River. I tend to think of river spirits in terms of goddesses, just cause that's how they're normally depicted in the Celtic mythologies, and I haven't gotten the vibe that she objects with those terms. However, because I'm no where near the Mississippi River or her tributaries atm, I can't really work with her? It doesn't feel right, because my experience of her is so localized to back home. But in the spring when I can be outside for extended periods without turning into a popsicle, I'm going to start trying to develop a relationship with the Penobscot River in earnest. I cross her every day on the way to school. She has a lovely energy

The other deities I regularly devote space to are the Morrigan and Hades. They both got my attention during periods in my life related to death. They're not particularly vocal or active, but the crows make it clear they're still around

And of course, they're Surkukteni's and Ysayle's immediate past lives.

Ammut is the brother to Amon. He's a trans man who greatly opposed the empire but tried to keep his criticism mild so he could continue to work with insurgents like Urth (Iolaine) without drawing too much attention to himself. He ends up getting in touch with the Meracydian resistance and works with them after....years of bickering to get them to trust him, and he winds up in a pact with Bahamut (aka: romantic interest), and starts dating Macchi. His pact lets him conjure weapons associated with Bahamut!

Macchi is a Meracydian Mithra, so he really should be a 6'3" tiger man, burly af etc etc. He's in a pact (again, deeply romantic stuff) with Tiamat, who so deeply trusts him that she let him partake of her own energy. So, dragon-catboy. His life is what Ysayle mistakes for Shiva and Hraesvelgr's, so she was right, but just a tiny bit off mark. He's resistant to the idea of ever working with Ammut - as a general pushing back against Allagan colonization - but he does end up working with Ammut and gets with him.

...the two end up caught by Amon and executed horrifically. They have powerful Voidsent summoned into their living bodies (considered inhumane by even Allag) to execute them publicly and use the bound Voidsent to kill Bahamut and topple Meracydia: in Macchi was Macha, the Voidsent of the Morrignae and would be the namesake of Mhach; in Ammut, was Diarmuid Ua Duibhne, who would be resummoned by Ammut's reincarnation 3,000 years later.

Their rage was so strong that Hydaelyn - taking the souls of her dead lovers, Charon and Khione - kept them by her to spare them further pain, not realizing she released them to reincarnate as Surkukteni and Ysayle (and Katsuro, but that's complicated).

Macha is a netrunner, she's originally from Germany (hence her German last name) - her parents were transferred to the NUSA branch of Arasaka when Macha was 12 years old - all three of her parents are psychologists - her parents divorced when Macha was 3 years old, her mother leaving her with her dad. She has 4 siblings, being the oldest sister. She grows up in a privileged corpo environment, and working at Arasaka is a natural thing that does not really feel like a choice but rather the expected path to take. She works in their department for psychological research, first as an analyst, later as a netrunner, protecting the data. She gets together with a high executive who she meets through some corpo event. Not a very loving relationship, but again, did not feel like a choice to her. She wanders through life, feeling decisions are made for her, not by her.

Her traumatic experience - and what leads to her leaving the corpo world -  is tied to the Relic loosely (she's not a V) - but her partner takes the baby from her womb, threatening to kill her if she doesn't give it up, to experiment for what would later become the Relic technology. She does not give in but is sedated and operated against her will.

After leaving, she works some odd jobs to get by and get back on her feet. Until she decides it's time for revenge, she decides to work as a netrunner for hire for anyone who's willing to attack corpos in any way possible. She wants revenge on her former partner, especially, but she takes her time with it because she can not have her plan fail. She wants to see him dead.

Sabbats: Lughnasadh Basics and Correspondences

Lughnasadh is one of the four Celtic Cross Quarter Festivals, also referred to as the fire festivals. It is the first of three harvest festivals held in the fall. As the grain and corn are gathered and preserved for the season, farmers celebrated the last of the long and warm days of summer.

The cross quarters are linked to an old farming calendar. This was a time when people were very close to the land and their lives were governed by the changing of the seasons and the need to grow enough food to survive. Modern Irish Gaelic calls the month of August Lúnasa which is the modern variation of Lughnasadh. The name originates from Lugh, a mythological hero to some, sun god to others.

Day 3 - Coffee?

He doesn't read like a big coffee type, he'd be probably more into energy drinks (heh) if anything, but when it comes to coffee I can see him enjoying some funky lattes with syrup (caramel, haha? but I can see him be into fruity ones, too, to everybody's horror) and lots of whipped cream. Not really a tea guy, tho. I can imagine he really tried to enjoy macha, but it just wasn't doing it for him. Definitely a "hot leaf water" guy.

If anyone said to him that one day, apart from Borsalino, he would have found someone that he likes to have the company of, he would have probably relegated them to cleaning duty.

But he indeed has one such friend, who despite his character, decided to stay beside him. Who not only was trustworthy but also reliable.

But you are also a little gremlin, so chaotic that sometimes he questions why he is tolerating you. Not that he would tell you, but you are like a protegé to him, and he will make sure you are alright. Even if he has to put you on a leash.

Now that he thinks about it, it has been too quiet. The entire base was too placid for a normal day. And so far, no one came to bother him. Nothing.

Strange. Did he send both of you out for a mission? No, he would remember it if he did.

He was musing the recent events when he heard a loud crash and them some screaming. Ah yes, here you were. And by the looks of it, some pirate made your screws loose. But in that commotion he heard something that made his heart do funny things. It made him proud of you, your dedication to your work, the way you saw him. He was proud of his little protegé.

Even though you were a little bit too chaotic for his taste. He had Borsalino for that. But he was glad to have found someone like you.

Not that he was going to tell you anytime soon, but he would make sure to go a little easier on you in the next sparring session.

You were the opposite of him. He was composed, cool and mostly rational. ( Kuzan would say the opposite,but he isn't here so) You, on the other hand, were something he always longed to have as a friend,but sometimes he was tempted to treat you like a fussy cat.

Not to be mistaken, he loved the relationship you formed. Your bond was the perfect combination of your two personalities. But sometimes he felt like the big brother trying to keep his unruly sibling out of trouble.

Not that it wasn't funny. It was always a show to see you go feral whenever someone ( mostly pirates who didn't know by now) tried to mock him or hurt him. But sometimes your energy could be a bit too much. He was old, cut him some slack.

But your loyalty was something he admired deeply. He knew it wasn't easy to find people like you in the world, and he promised to himself to never lose you. Or to not get in trouble too much.

When he said you were too chaotic, he meant it in every possible way. He had a fond smile whenever you worried about him, but the mother henning he could do without. There was Tashigi for that.
