4 kinds of teas
Im currently reading the book "Herbal Tea Magic for the Modern Witch. A Practical Guide to Healing Herbs, Tea Leaf Reading and Botanical Spells" by Elsie Wild.
I thought i would share what Wild wrote on tea, spices & herbs, their magical and medical benefits and their warnings.
these entries in this post are from Chapter 2, pages 15-18. i'll make a seperate post or few for more entries!
Teas
While there are hundreds of different kinds of tea in the world, there are four main types of tea: black, green, oolong and white.
Black tea
One of the most versatile teas, black tea is a more oxidised version of green tea, with a stronger flavour and more caffeine (though much less than a cup of coffee). Because of its full flavour, black tea acts as a great base for most tea blends and potions. Black tea originated in China in the seventeenth century when the Chinese started fermenting tea leaves to extend their storage life. Black tea came to Europe in the eighteenth century, charming the British aristocracy and eventually all of England. Black tea is the main ingredient in classic tea blends such as English breakfast tea and Earl Grey tea.
Magical Properties: Strength, stability, endings, finished business, expelling negative energy, energy boost, courage, mental clarity, grounding, cleansing. Associated with the earth element and winter.
Health Properties: Boosts metabolism, boosts immunity, relieves stress, improves bone health, eases asthma, kills bacteria, lowers cholesterol, lowers risk of diabetes, increases energy, decreases digestive activity.
Medical Warnings: Pregnant people should not drink more than two cups of black tea a day
Different Types: English breakfast, Earl Grey, Chai, Assam, Darjeeling.
Brewing tip: For the best taste, brew black tea in about 180-210f (thats 82.2-98.8c) water and let it steep for four to eight minutes, depending on the blend.
Green Tea
A staple for any tea lover, green tea is made from the unoxidized leaves of the camellia sinensis plant. It's called green tea because the leaves are harvested when they are slightly withered and immediately cooked before they can oxidize, thus keeping their green colouring. Camellia sinensis leaves for green tea are harvested three times a year to get the highest quality. Green tea was initially used for medical purposes to treat a range of illnesses. For many decades, green tea was a symbol of status and wealth due to its cost and lengthy preparation time. But today green tea can be enjoyed by anyone. Matcha, green tea's popular cousin, is made from the ground powder of shade-grown green tea leaves, which is whisked together with hot water in a ceramic bowl. Macha was originally used in traditional japanese tea ceremonies but is now popular everywhere.
Magical Properties: Healing, love, mindfulness, passion, cleansing, regulating energy, wealth. Associated with the fire element and spring.
Health Properties: Boosts metabolism, improves brain function, supports sexual health, supports heart health, rich in antioxidants. Could also increase longevity.
Medical Warnings: None.
Different Types: Chunmee green tea, gunpowder green tea, jasmine green tea and matcha.
Brewing Tip: Green tea tastes best when brewed at a mild water temperature (about 180f (which is 82.2c)) and steeped for about three minutes. Water that is too hot could make the tea bitter.
Oolong Tea
While black, green and white tea are easily recognisable to most people, oolong tends to throw people off. Sure, you've heard of it, but what is it? Oolong is a semi-oxidized tea made from the leaves of the camellia sinensis plant. The amount of time the tea is oxidised varies, which makes each oolong flavour unique. Oolong tea gets its name from two Chinese words meaning "black dragon", a reference to the way the leaves are rolled into curly shapes resembling dragons.
Magical Properties: Wisdom, beaty, emotional balance and connection, romance, friendship, serenity, divination, reflection. Associated with the water element and autumn.
Health Properties: Lowers blood pressure, improves sleep, improves gut health, increases bone density, prevents tooth decay. Increases alertness and improves your mood.
Medical Warnings: None.
Brewing Tip: Oolong tastes best when its brewed at a water temp of 185-206f (85-96.9c) and steeped for around four minutes. Oolong tea actually tastes better the more you re-steep it.
White Tea
A highly delicate tea made from the unopened buds of the camellia sinensis plant, white tea is produced with minimal processing during a short harvesting season, creating its unique floral flavour and its expensive price tag. White tea, which originated in the Fujian Province of China during the sixteenth century, has become popular for its taste, health benefits and magical properties.
Magical Properties: Purification, protection, clarity, realization, meditation, cleansing, psychic abilities, youth, blessings, new beginnings, happiness, wisdom. Associated with the air element summer and moon magic.
Health Properties: reduces risk of heart disease, lowers insulin resistance, protects against osteoporosis, helps skin damage, reduces risk of cancer, rich in antioxidants.
Medical Warnings: None.
Different types: Silver Needle (BaiHao YinZhen), White Peony (Bai Mu Dan), Tribute Eyebrow (Gong Mei), Long Life Eyebrow (Shou Mei).
Brewing Tip: Because of its delicate nature, white tea should be made with 175-85f (79.4-85c) water and steeped for one to three minutes maximum or it will turn bitter.

[Pick-A-Pile]Messages for you from the cards
Tumblr media
Hello and welcome to a short PAC of mine.
This time I’m not asking the cards about anything in particular. I allow them to deliver the kind of message they feel like you should know now.
If you struggle picking a pile, it might be that none of the messages are supposed to reach you at this moment. If you come back in a month, maybe you pick the pile instantly because then it’s gonna be the time for you to receive the message.
If in general you struggle picking piles, it might be that as well. Sometimes you are not supposed to pick one because the message is not meant for you. Keep that in mind.
Disclaimer:
All my tarot readings are for entertainment purposes only
This is a general timeless reading - take what resonates

Tarot is self-development tool (yes, even future spouse readings are self-development tools), it’s not a life manual
Whatever the cards say, you always have a freedom of choice
Never base important life decisions in solely tarot readings
Maintain moderate consumption of tarot readings, it’s like any other addiction, it becomes unhealthy when it’s too much

Messages for You from the Cards
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pile 01
Cards: 2 of Cups, 10 of Swords, Ace of Coins (Tarot of Tales), 38. The Milk of the Mother Flows, 42. She is Moonlight-Shy (The Solitary Witch Oracle), Star Anise (The Herbal Tea Magic for the Modern Witch Oracle)
There’s an end of discussion leading to important decisions - it’s time to stop analysing and debating and it’s time to start working on your goals.
Relationships are nurturing and lovely, you are rewarded with the same amount of care you have put into them.
Follow your intuition but keep your eyes open - you might have a tendency to romanticise what’s actually not that good in the merciless light of reality.
Someone in your life might present themselves well but they are actually toxic for you. It’s time to show them the door.
Your manifestations are likely to come to fruition now. Whatever you have wished and manifested for will finally materialise in your world.
Meeting your soulmate or just someone very dear to you is suggested.
Now is the time to embrace your personal magick powers. The time of waiting is over, be the best version of yourself now. Devote to your craft.
Your energy is at its peak and flowing easily, your actions now will influence your future many years ahead.
It's a time of good fortune for you - you might want to play the lottery.
Tumblr media
Pile 02
Cards: 10 of Wands, 10 of Cups, Ace of Wands (The Light Seer’s Tarot), Cheetah, Lion (The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit Oracle), Purification (Sacred Destiny Oracle)
It’s time to de-clutter, purify, clean and cleanse, sort and make space for what’s about to come. New vibrant energy can’t enter your life when it’s clogged with old, stagnant and blocking energy. Clean yourself and space around you. Eat lightly and get rid of things you don’t love anymore.
Time of abundance is ahead of you, especially if you read this in the summer season. Abundance of what you desire will come to you like a summer storm - swiftly and showering down.
Don’t waste your energy and resources. Observe and be smart with your decisions. There are battles worth fighting but there are also those you should avoid. Learn to recognize them.
Your potential and energy are endless but you need a purpose and motivation to use them well. If you are lacking any of these, take a moment to think about your ‘why’.
Your creativity is radiating and burning, you might experience an increase when it comes to brilliant ideas now.
Everything is connected. Use your intellect and imagination to see how people and situations interact. You might feel an urge to start writing a story or poem.
Finally some happiness arrived at your home’s door. You might feel blessed in the circle of your close relatives or friends, maybe celebration is at hand.
If your project or relationship becomes a tedious and tiring one, don’t lose hope and keep going. You are just about to release the burdens and reach fruition of your labour.
It might be about time for you to do something for your community. In relation to the above, you might feel called to release some content for your social media followers, or you might want to donate your old clothes to charity, or maybe you simply bake a cake for your grandma for her birthday.
Tumblr media
Pile 03
Cards: V The Hierophant, Knight of Swords, XI Justice (The Slavic Legends Tarot), L The Ram and Dahlia, XII The Lizard and Pitcher Plant (Woodland Wardens Oracle), Hazel (The Wisdom of Trees Oracle)
Set your mental and emotional boundaries, especially when dealing with people. Some dramas have nothing to do with you, don’t waste your energy on them.
If you feel stuck or stagnant, remember the lizard's ability to let go of their tails to escape from predators. Maybe it’s time for you to drop something in order to move forward.
You are determined and focused on your goals and if you maintain like that, you can achieve whatever you want. Be headstrong and gracious at the same time and no obstacle stands a chance against you.
It’s time to establish a little more balance in your life. Which aspects take most of your attention and which ones you neglect recently?
If you are dealing with people and their dramas, remain impartial and unbiased. If you lean to any side, it will only bring more chaos to the situation. Keep a cool head.
Make meticulous plans but don’t get stuck in the planning phase. Once you are done debating, take courage and execute what you have drafted.
Ride the storm - while others hide from challenges, you should see an opportunity to shine against adversity. You have that personal power and charm to lead masses in times of crises.
You might feel the need to study, examine and evaluate rules, norms, laws or customs. Maybe you follow some traditions despite them being a burden to you. Maybe some laws are outdated and only promote injustice. It’s time to take in a bigger picture and work on improvements.
Your older friends or relatives possess wisdom. Come together at this time and learn some crucial information or skills from them. Is inflation giving a hit to your budget? Your elders might know some frugal tricks to help you. Maybe your sensitive skin doesn’t benefit from creams you buy and your grandma has some time proofed home remedy for that. Seek for long-term wisdom instead of quick hecks.

re: Appalachian Witchcraft for Beginners
^jsyk where my ask stems from.
you said the author is one of few that mentions red clay and i was wondering if you knew of any of the others and if their info or themselves were reliable? i’m sorry if this isn’t worded well.
Hello there! These are my own opinions mind you, and I can understand if some of these authors aren't everyone's cup of tea.
Personally for written information on Appalachian Folk Magic available to the modern public I do recommend: Jake Richards -He has some controversy about him, so do with that what you will but a lot of what he talks about I have seen within my own family so I would say a lot of the information is pretty solid. Do take some stuff with some salt as some of what he talks about borders on proper Hoodoo.
New World Witchery- Cory Thomas Hutchenson. This covers a lot of folk practices from around America but the real treasure is the giant pile of resources in the back of the book.
Southern Cunning- Aaron Obreon. This covers more southern based cunningwork/folkloric witchcraft. This book is a breakdown of the far too expensive in my opinion...Silver Bullet, a folklore book from ages gone by. Can still be followed without the other book! Roger J. Horne- All of his books kind of blend Traditional British style magic with folkloric based Appalachian work. I find the way he describes witch's flight and how he breaks down complicated ideals a great resource. But only if you are interested in both topics.
The Foxfire Series- A great series about Appalachia and things within it, both folkloric and way of life. I personally love the book: Boogers, Witches, and Haints in the series for folklore to dig into and apply to your own practice.
H. Byron Ballard- Another slightly controversial author, I adore the way Ballard describes the mountains and the natural magic and energy that's here. She makes me feel homesick and I live here! Seeing her speak in person really solidified my fondness for her works. The only thing I hate is she calls AFM "Hillfolk Hoodoo" which the term does make me sigh every time I read it.
(This title is laughable but I swear this is a historical remedy book that is fairly good!) Egyptian Secrets of Albertus Magnus- Remedies of the old days, was one of those books like "Long Lost Friend", but this one I have heard of some AFM workers using in the older days.
Southern Folk Medicine: Healing Traditions from the Appalachian Fields and Forests - Now I will always say please go to a doctor for any ills, but herbalism and remedies are an important part of AFM, just use it in conjunction with a doctor's advice and medication. (AND ASK THEM ABOUT IT PLEASE.) This particular book really focuses on some of the older concepts of the "blood types" that did play a somewhat important role in older ideals of illness and injury here.
Power of the Psalms by Anna Riva- Okay look. Having a Psalter, a list of Psalms and their uses is SUPER IMPORTANT TO ME. This one is always by go to, otherwise I do like Gemma Gary's Psalter as well. Great for workings, and also great to help you memorize certain Psalms that can and will spook those really overbearing and ridiculous Christian types that try to insult you in some way.
That's all the ones I can think of at the moment but I might think of some more eventually!

anyways have some messy unformatted preliminary thoughts on underworld magic users give me your thoughts
magic can be something you're born with or can learn so sometimes you choose your path sometimes it's chosen for you
witches are technically a catchall term as there is some level of basic magic most spellcasters can do but they specifically tend to be elemental magic users like ro
warlocks are often dealing with curses, hexes, jinxes, poppets, basically any and all very physical or token based magic
naturalists make magic potions that require some infusion of spells or mana not to be confused with herbalists which are simply those that deal in or sell herbs or herbal based medicine
healers are the equivalent of magical doctors in modern times often combining magic and science if they have the means or knowledge
diviners can see visions and know a lot of information whether it be from a natural prophecy gift (however infrequent or vague the visions are) or reading a fortune through various means though most are of the latter and even the former have knowledge of things like tarot cards and tea leaves, with tracking and espionage skills coming in a close second for utilization
dreamweavers are illusionists but some very powerful ones are also capable of actually manipulating your dreams or even your thoughts
gravewalkers are actually quite rare as the dead tend to be difficult to commune with unless you are a natural or accidental magical gift for it and raising the dead can go quite poorly
traversals are able to manipulate the fabric between worlds to summon creatures from them or create portals between and around them
enchanters, sometimes called cursebreakers or runesmiths, use runes to create magic items, glyphs, and wards, and are (perhaps incorrectly) considered the opposite of warlocks due to the overlap
shapers deal in everything physical manifestation or manipulation whether its inorganic object transmutation or shapeshifting themselves or others

There are a lot of different belief systems in modern Paganism, and one that's seeing a resurgence in popularity is the path of the hedge witch. Although there are a lot of different definitions of what a hedge witch is and does, you'll find that for the most part, there's a lot of work with herbal magic, as well as an emphasis on nature. A hedge witch might work with gods or goddesses, perform healing and shamanic actions, or perhaps work with the changing seasons. In other words, the path of the hedge witch is as eclectic as those who practice it.
Key Takeaways: Hedge Witchcraft
Hedge witchcraft is usually practiced by solitaries, and involves deep study of plants and the natural world.
The term hedge witch is an homage to the wise women of old who often lived on the outskirts of villages, beyond the hedge.
Hedge witches typically find magical intent in routine, day to day activities.
History of the Hedge Witch
Ask any modern hedge witch, and they'll probably tell you that the reason they call themselves a hedge witch is an homage to the past. In days gone by, witches—often women, but not always—lived along the fringes of a village, behind the hedgerows. One side of the hedge was the village and civilization, but on the other lay the unknown and wild. Typically, these hedge witches served a dual purpose and acted as healers or cunning women, and that involved a lot of time gathering herbs and plants in the woods, the fields, and—you guessed it—the hedges.
The hedge witch of old usually practiced alone, and lived magically day to day—simple acts like brewing a pot of tea or sweeping the floor were infused with magical ideas and intentions. Perhaps most importantly, the hedge witch learned her practices from older family members or mentors, and honed her skills through years of practice, trial, and error. These practices are sometimes referred to as green craft, and are highly influenced by folk customs.

Magical Practice and Belief
Similar to the practice of kitchen witchcraft, hedge witchery often focuses on the hearth and home as the center of magical activity. The home is the place of stability and grounding, and the kitchen itself is a magical place, and it's defined by the energies of the people who live in the house. For the hedge witch, the home is typically seen as sacred space.
If the home is the core of the practice, the natural world forms the root of it. A hedge witch typically spends lots of time working on herbal magic, and often learns associated skills like herbal medicine or aromatherapy. This practice is deeply personal and spiritual; a hedge witch doesn't just have jars of plants. Chances are good that she grew or gathered them herself, harvested them, dried them, and has experimented with them to see what they can and cannot do—all the while, she's been writing down her notes for future reference.
Hedge Witchery for Modern Practitioners
There are plenty of ways to incorporate hedge witchcraft into your daily life, and most of them involve simple actions of living mindfully and magically.
Look at small domestic tasks from a spiritual perspective. Whether you're cooking dinner or cleaning the bathroom, focus on the sacredness of the actions. Baking bread for your family? Fill that bread with love! Also, speak to your house—yes, that's right, talk to it. Your home is a place of magical energy, so when you walk in after a day at work, greet the house. When you leave for the day, tell it goodbye, and promise to return soon.
Get to know the spirits of land and place around you. Work with them, and invite them into your life with songs, poems, and offerings. The more you open yourself up to them, the more likely they will be to offer you gifts and protection when you need it. In addition, study the plants that grow around your immediate area. If you don't have a garden or a yard, that's okay—plants grow everywhere. What is native to your planting zone? Are there public woods or gardens you can explore, study and wildcraft in?
The practice of hedge witchcraft might be something for you to explore if you're drawn to certain aspects of the natural world. Are you someone who feels more at home in the outdoors and is drawn to nature, with a strong connection to herbs and trees and plants? Do you prefer to work your magic alone, rather than in a group setting? Do you have an interest in folklore and on expanding your own knowledge through research and experimentation? If so, the path of the hedge witch might be right up your alley!

vi. family & personal history
Born the only child to Sybil Walcott, a witch from the Weirwood Coven, made him the grandson of Eudora Walcott, the coven matriarch, a powerful witch and a well-respected figure in Weirwood Hollow, a small town in Vermont that sprung up in semi-secret after the famous witch hunts of the 17th century. Conway, through his mother's line, is a descendant of Mary Walcott, a survivor of the Salem witch trials, and through his father, Jeremiah Goode, is also descended from witch hunters. His parents, with their union, put their family's bloody feud behind them, and Conway was the result of that union.
Conway was raised around witches his whole life, and they loved him dearly despite his status as witch-born. He showed no magical ability beyond what humans were capable of, but his dormant witch-blood was still valued by other supernatural, and his family's status provided him with respect and protection within Weirwood Hollow. He is well versed in witch traditions, customs and festivities. His parents tragically died in a car accident out of state when Conway was five, so he was raised by his grandmother and their coven.
He has lived in Weirwood Hollow his whole life, and although he dreams of travelling to Europe, he sees this place as his home. He learned and loved baking from a young age, and is now the co-owner and head baker of his own bakery and tea shop. He also took over his family's famous apothecary, as his grandmother became too old to run it and too proud to sell it away. However, due to having little magical ability or talent, he is only able to prepare and sell ingredients and basic, non-magical tinctures and potions, reducing its status to grade four and allowing other apothecaries to pop up in Weirwood Hollow.

GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I FINALLY MADE A TWISTED WONDERLAND OC !!!! i LOVE HIM SO MUCH.
.
.
.
So! Dorn is based on the Black forest from Snow White, sort of like how Epel is based on the poison apple! He specifically represents the trees and how they can shift into something horrifying. He is often compared to a forest Nymph and who knows, maybe he is one. * wink wink nudge nudge *
.
So, he is a Junior in Nightraven College. Originally he believed he would get assigned into Pomfiore with Epel, who he knew from home, being that they both lived in the secluded rural forests. He ended up getting assigned into the Diasomnia dorm. This was shocking to him, but his family did have a past with magic. His great grandmother, Willow, was also know to be a widely feared witch who cursed the very woods he was born in, the forest dating back to the fated tale of the Evil Queen an her daughter.
.
.
Dorn originally wanted to specialize in potion-ology, but he discovered he was quite bad at chemistry and general math, so he steered far away from it. Shapeshifting seemed to be his calling, being able to shift into forms such as wolves, owls, crows, and even a snake! His favorite form is the barn owl, however.
.
.
Like Malleus, his name gives him a bad reputation, and most tend to be scared of him. He wanted to work as a model as well, but specifically a visual kei model, but many were simply to freaked out to work with him, causing those dreams to die before they even started.
Instead he decided to stick to animals. He is often found in the Botanical Gardens, communicating with the feared beasts of the woods, or examining the many poisonous and odd plants.
Because of his bramble like personality and his homeland, he is often called “Thorn” as a nickname. Most people are actually not aware that this is just his name translated, so he sees it less of a nickname and more of a different pronunciation.
.
.
He loves oddities and anything weird. Which is probably why he attached to Lilia  and Malleus quite quickly. He enjoys speaking with them because they tend to not notice his name or overall misconception. He also gets along quite well with Silver due to their shared interests in animals.
.
.
He likes: Any small cute animal but specifically bunnies. Pretty flowers all though his favorite is the Midnight Blue Rose. Herbal teas, anything with Earl Grey or vanilla he will drink, but he loves elderberry too. Role playing games, he finds them fun and often choses a bright happy beloved character to play. Lastly he adores sweets, fruit tarts are his favorite but is also quite fond of blueberry or vanilla scones.
He dislikes: The heat, he says it is physically damaging for him and he would much rather prefer the frost, he avoids the fire in Diasomnia. Sudden loud noises, as much as he wants to support Lilia, he can not handle concerts. Being a sudden center of attention, he absolutely despises being picked in class or praised Infront of people. Technology, he believes modern magic tech is taking away from the spirit of nature and magic, so he isn't that fond of it, he and Idia have argued over this many times.
.
.
.
.
So yeah!! That's my silly little guy!! I hope you guys enjoy him!

5 Goddesses for Modern Witches
Tumblr media
Witchcraft and feminism walk hand in hand these days, and with the growing interest in both subjects, we’ve seen a resurgence in curiosity for the female deities of old. Women are rejecting the patriarchal male-centric religions and along with them, their gods. This is all very understandable and generally positive, but it’s only natural to still feel the need for a guiding entity to support us in our practice, and to turn to for help. It’s practically written into our dna by this point.
So, when we’ve waved goodbye to the gods who no longer serve us, if they ever did, who is there to fill the space?
Well, there a myriad of options, and it can seem overwhelming at first. Every culture and magical practice has a plethora of female deities, and each has her own characteristics and areas of specialty. There is also a lot of crossover and similarities between them, which can be comforting, and helps reduce the overwhelm. More on that at a later date.
To start with, here are 5 well known Goddesses who are fairly easy to research and find plenty of books, courses and articles on. I’ll include some further reading suggestions at the end to get you started.
Brigid
Tumblr media
Also known as Brigantia, meaning ‘High One’, Brigid is a Celtic goddess specialising in poetry, art and crafts, and the magical art of prophecy and divination, so she’s a good one to turn to if you’re a writer or an artist, and useful to invoke when carrying out tarot work. Great for wives and mothers too, as she traditionally protects women, children and the home, so call on her when creating protection amulets or are in need of a little extra security. Healing is another of Brigids talents, so shes really a great all-rounder to start off with. Being a fire, or sun, goddess, invoke her by placing herbs, crystals, flowers associated with the sun on your altar, such as citrine, rosemary, sunflower or sunflower seeds, and including them in your spell work.
Demeter
Tumblr media
Ancient Greek goddess of the harvest and fertility, great for gardeners, nature witches, herb growers. She protects plants, and ensures the fertility of the earth. The original nature goddess, in fact the first nature goddess to be included in the Greek pantheon, like nature itself she can both nurture and destroy, so approach with respect and caution. She’s also a goddess of the underworld, so could be helpful with shadow work and spirit work. Honour her on your altar with a corn dolly, a chalice of wine, a poppy flower or poppy seeds, or even an offering of a slice of bread.
Diana
Tumblr media
Roman goddess of the moon, so powerful and well-loved that an entire ancient cult was built around her, if you work with the phases of the moon then she may just be your ideal companion. Also responsible for fertility and childbirth, invoke Diana when working spells for conception and safe birth. As goddess of the hunt and wild animals, she may also be your gal if you wish to protect the animals in your care. A dish of water, fruits, an egg, or a sprig of lavender would be appropriate offerings.
Freyja
Tumblr media
As well as being an extremely popular girls name these days, Freyja is the Norse goddess of love and war (all’s fair in love and war and all that). Pigs are sacred to her, as her preferred mode of transport was an uncomfortable sounding boar with golden bristles. Hope she had sturdy underpants! She can help with matters of the heart, conflict issues, or be by your side during times of grief and bereavement. Decorate your altar with a jar of honey, primroses, an apple, or a pig figurine. Use mugwort in your tea or herbal spell pouches to commune with her.
Hecate
Tumblr media
Of course I couldn’t leave out the goddess of witchcraft herself! Very popular with witches, for obvious reasons, this Greek goddess rules over magic and spells. Also the goddess of ghosts and necromancy, she can be a great help to those of us who work with spirits. Her name translates as ‘worker from afar’, entirely appropriate for a worker of magic! Get to know this powerful lady if you want to seriously powerboost your spell craft. Place frankincense, red wine, garlic, or black tourmaline on your altar.
And there we have it, a whistle-stop tour of some of my favourite and most helpful goddesses, please let me know in the comments which of these ladies you’d like more in depth info on, and l’ll write a post for you.

Magical Topics to Study by Type: Hedge, Green, Kitchen, Etc.
Tumblr media
Recently, in our FaceBook group, we’ve been discussing the concept of diving deeper into our studies and practice. Many of us get stuck scratching the surface and are left wondering what to do next. Here we provide you with topics to research and/or things to try categorized by the type of witchcraft you’re interested in. By expanding your magical horizons, you can really dive deep into your practice and expand your wisdom and skills. And remember – you don’t have to stick to just one category!
Magical Topics to Research and Practices to Try
For the Hedge Witch:
A hedge witch is much more than just a witch who tends a garden hedge. He or she is much more than a witch who works with herbs and home remedies. The hedge witch is a symbolic hedge rider, meaning he or she crosses the “hedge” between this world and the spirit world. The practice of hedge witchery is very shamanic in nature, as you will soon find out. Are herbs used in the hedge witch’s practice? Yes! But the hedge witch’s main focus is on lifting the veil between humans and spirits – being able to cross into the realm of the dead and the gods and come back again. If you’d like to deepen your understanding of hedge witchery and expand your knowledge bank, research and practice some of these topics:

Just a few suggestions!
Obviously these are only a few suggestions and you don’t have to stick to one category whatsoever. I find myself intrigued by any and all of these facets of the craft. Research these topics online but also read a few books on the topics that really tickle your witchy fancy. Then put what you learned to practice. The practice is where the real learning comes into play. That’s where the REAL magick happens!

Recommended Herbs
A part two to this post, focusing on the herbs in Wild's book. There are 25 entries for herbs alone so i'll be making several posts going over 5 at a time. The entries arent exactly short but theyre not too long either.
While these herbs mentioned in this book are Recommended, they arent required or mandatory to have. most are fairly easy to get at stores and its perfectly fine to have preferences you'd rather have instead.
the pages in this post these entries are from are pages 18-24, every word under the cut is taken directly from the chapter (though there may be slight editings from me if i notice something like a typo).
Herbs And Spices
Here is your starter guide to the common herbs and spices that all witches should have in their cabinet, or should at least be aware of. This is not a definitive list but more of an introduction to help you begin learning about and using your herbs and spices to the best of your abilities. Remember, these are you tools; take good care of them.
Blackberry Leaf
Blackberries, the fruit, have a long history in witchcraft, mostly associated with European pagans. According to Celtic lore, blackberries were the fruit of the fae (fairies) and was unlucky to eat. However, many used blackberries to cure illnesses and in rituals. Just as blackberries were magical, their leaves also contain their own magical and healing properties as well.
What It Looks Like: Found on top of a blackberry, these leaves are typically light green in colour, with each leaf consisting of three or five oval leaflets.
Flavour Profile: Fruity.
Magical Properties: Healing, Money, Protection.
Health Properties: Eases sore throats, heals mouth sores and ulcers, rich in antioxidants.
Medical Warnings: Do not consume if you have any type of liver disease.
Calendula
Calendula, also known as pot marigold, is a bright, cheerful little flower with a mild taste, but it packs a magical punch. Known as the sun herb, calendula is one of the oldest known herbs in herbalism. It was used throughout ancient Greece, Egypt, India, and Arabia for various purposes, from making the skin look renewed to serving as an antidote to poisoning. During the American Civil War, doctors carried dried calendula petals in their pockets to stop the bleeding of war wounds. On the magical side of things, calendula was used in love potions, its petals were scattered under beds for protection, and upset lovers would wear a garland of the plant to show their jealousy.
What It looks Like: Pot marigolds are tall plants with bright orange petals that are straight and long, similar to the daisies. The flower is used in teas, often dried first.
Flavour Profile: Slightly bitter but earthy and floral.
Magical Properties: Protection (especially in iligal matters), spiritual powers, wealth, healing, stability, dreamwork, love, marriage.
Health Properties: Nourishes skin, hair and nails; rich in antioxidants, relieves sore throats; regulates the menstrual cycle, relieves sore muscles; anti-inflammatory.
Medical Warnings: Do not use if you have an allergy to other plants in the Asteraceae family (such as chamomile), are pregnant, or are on blood-pressure medication.
Chamomile
One of the most popular ingredients to add to tea, chamomile has been used in nighttime teas for ages as it's the perfect relaxer. Chamomile tea is made from the flowers of dried chamomile and has been used as medicine for centuries.
What It Looks Like: With its white petals and cone-shaped yellow center, chamomile looks similar to a daisy but is much smaller.
Flavour Profile: Sweet, floral.
Magical Properties: Love, banishment, purification, calming, prosperity, healing, peace.
Health Properties: Reduces anxiety, reduces menstrual pain, lowers blood sugar, reduces inflammation, prevents osteoporosis, treats cold symptoms.
Medical Warnings: Avoid using chamomile if you have severe ragweed allergies or are allergic to chamomile or chamomile products. Keep away from young children.
Cornflower
The patron herb of herbalists, cornflower is a beautiful flower to add to any tea for both its potent magical abilities and aesthetic appeal of it vibrant blue petals, worthy of any instagram picture. Another name for cornflower is bachelor's button because young men used to wear the flower on their lapel to let people know they were single and ready to go courting.
What It Looks Like: You can easily identify cornflower by the bright blue colour of its papery petals. The flower heads are surrounded by bracts, giving them their full shape. They also attract butterflies.
Flavour Profile: Slightly spicy with a touch of sweetness.
Magical Properties: Protection, love, fertility, sex, psychic abilities, abundance, self-knowledge, spirituality, growth, creativity.
Health Properties: Lowers fevers, decreases bloating, relieves chest congestion, helps with weak eyes.
Medical Warnings: Avoid if you are pregnant, are breastfeeding or have Allergies to ragweed or daisies.
Dandelion
Long the villain to many lawn care fanatics, dandelions have gotten a bad rep by being labeled a "weed". However, every part of this lovely yellow flower has been used in herbalism for centuries, with the root being especially prized for its healing and magical properties. So put away your weed killer and start saving your dandelions.
What It Looks Like: While the dandelion has a bright yellow head, its root it found deep in the earth and is shaped like a long, white carrot. The root can be cut up, dried, or ground into a powder. The leaves can also be dried and used in teas.
Flavour Profile: Toasty and nutty
Magical Properties: Divination, wish-granting good luck, psychic powers, dream magic, spirit work, cleansing, air magic.
Health Properties: Can be used as a diuretic, reduces inflammation, reduces cholesterol, lowers blood pressure, reduces constipation, boosts the immune system.
Medical Warnings: Do not take if you have a weed allergy, are pregnant or nursing, or are taking antidepressants, diuretics, estrogen-based contraceptives or antibiotics.

Community gardener - Mirelle is heavily involved in the botanist’s guild in Gridania, and patched into efforts to the establishment and upkeep of subsistence gardens and guerilla food forests throughout the Shroud. If you’re someone with an interest in providing for the wellbeing of the Shroud’s denizens, or a wood wailer wondering who keeps replacing the ornamentals with mulberry bushes and chestnut trees, you might have a lot to discuss.
Historic combat enthusiast - After being taught the traditional technique of scythe combat by her mother, Mirelle developed a keen interest in the preservation of historic or obscure combat arts. If you practice an unusual or forgotten art, or if you’re a fellow enthusiast, she’d love to pick your brain.
Former military - Mirelle has served time in the Ishgardian infantry, where she primarily trained as a firearms specialist, with a short stint as a weapons tester at Skysteel Manufactory. If you served in the military or the manufactory, perhaps she’s heard of you -- or vice versa.
Tinkerer - From handgonnes to witch stones, Mirelle is quite taken in by devices of magical or mechanical intricacy, and enjoys the effort of deconstructing and puzzling them out. If you possess an unusual device or artifact, she would very much like to get her hands on it -- only for a moment, of course.

What makes mysticism- mystical?
In "The Varieties of Religious Experience", William James writes that the term “mysticism” is often used synonymously (and derisively) with the vaguely spiritual, the illogical, or the romantic.
Yet, although the mystical may be ungraspable and inexpressible, James argues that true mystical experiences are not at all opposed to “facts or logic” and, when taken as a consistent phenomenon throughout history, are not entirely ambiguous or undefinable.
He proposes four hallmarks by which to identify a mystical experience:
1) Ineffability: “its quality must be directly experienced; it cannot be imparted or transferred to others.”
2) Noetic quality: the state may be highly affective, but it is primarily a state of knowledge, whereby one achieves “insight into depths of truth unplumbed by the discursive intellect.”
3) Transiency: it is fleeting and impermanent.
4) Passivity: the subject does not have the power to induce it or control its course.”
Mysticism and organic matter:
Many contemporary witch practices revolve around the use of organic matter.
Ghia Vatlie, self proclaimed modern witch uses roses in her practice of self soothment and offering to mystical entities, she writes:
Rose is a highly versatile flower and magickal herb. That’s why there are more ways to use dried rose petals in magick and witchcraft than you think.
Many people like roses in general, but a lot of witches (myself included) tend to be especially fond of roses. After all, roses are beautiful, smell good, and embody a natural elegance of their own. For this reason, witches use rose petals in love spells and workings that relate to relationships. However, rose petals also contain potent magickal energies that don’t specifically relate to love magick or romance charms. In fact, there are plenty of other spiritual uses for rose petals.
For offerings:
Rose petals make an excellent offering or sacrifice to any deity, spirit, faery, demon, or other interdimensional entity that you sense will enjoy them. It’s the energy of rose petals that makes them appealing to certain entities. Goddesses such as Aphrodite, Venus, Gaia, Flora, Astarte, Lilith, and more appreciate receiving rose petals. For example, I’ve sprinkled rose petals on the shoreline to honor Aphrodite. Use your intuition to sense whether or not an entity would appreciate a handful of rose petals before using them in a ritual or spell.
Drinking rose tea is a great way to kick back and get magickal. Tea magick is a real thing and not only is rose tea relaxing, but it tastes wonderful. Any time you make rose tea is an opportunity to make magic. What I do is set an intention while the roses are seeping into the water. The water absorbs my intention and when I drink it, I absorb that energy within my being. This, in turn, helps me manifest my intention. Rose tea is also helpful for assisting with your psychic development and boosting your confidence. Again, I prefer to use the organic Rose Buds and Petals (Red) by Alive Herbals for tea more than other products.
Roman and Pagan traditions, mysticism and flowers:
Floralia, a festival honoring the Roman goddess Flora (goddess of spring), was a precursor of May Day and lasted five days bridging the end of April and the beginning of May. The academic website Classical Wisdom notes the festival was "a time of dancing, gathering of flowers and the wearing of colorful clothes."
Tumblr media
The May Day revelries were associated with fertility and new life. Villagers danced around maypoles.
The Celts of ancient Britain celebrated Beltane, a pagan holiday marking the beginning of a new season. These ancients built bonfires to mark the beginning of the summer season, and it was this celebration that evolved into the medieval fetes known as May Day.
