This is hands down one of my favorite pieces of music that exists.

This is a great rock ballad, but also, everyone is more than what’s been done to them. I stumbled on this song this year (and band). Definitely one of my repeats this year.

This is another band I stumbled on this year, and have really fallen in love with this band and whole album.

One day I’m going to play this song to a significant other and it’s going to be fun. It’s a fun song.

Story of the Year is an all time favorite of mine, definitely a top 15. But they came out with a new album, and this song I think is great. I’m currently learning it on guitar.

Thursday, August 31: Machinae Supremacy, "My Dragons Will Decimate"

Power metal fully became a parody of itself once DragonForce broke through, if not much sooner.  And yet the response from many subsequent acts was to double down on the aspects that garnered the most ridicule, even emphasizing the video game references by layering SiDStation effects.  That very element was fundamental to Machinae Supremacy’s initial approach, although “My Dragons Will Decimate” was more of a traditionally froofy mainland European power metal number.  The bouncing bridge was catchy, though Robert Stjärnström’s whiny vocals could be a bit distracting.  This could’ve been released 20 years earlier without anybody noticing, which was likely the point, and to that end “My Dragons Will Decimate” was a perfectly competent power metal tune.  And given Machinae Supremacy’s longevity on the scene, they clearly locked in on a template and sound that worked well enough.

Motion City Soundtrack, Machinae Supremacy, and Yellowcard all share this particular phenomenon ive noticed which is. 2000s rock band but adding a particular unexpected instrument as a gimmick (synthesizers, commodore 64 chiptune, and violin, respectively) and really committing to making it a part of their sound and brand through several albums even though it only really sounds best in like a few songs and kind of sounds a bit dorky the rest of the time
