Love & Fairness -[Nico Hischier]
Tumblr media
A/N: OPE! I LIED!!!! We do have a full fic for Sunday! The Nico and Lexi angst I've been hinting at for months from that original lil blurb. Hope you all enjoy a little roller coaster for our perfect parents.
Word Count: 4.3k
Timeline wise: Nico and Lexi are married. Lucie is between 1-2. Mack and Sophie are not born.
The night is coated with cozy nostalgia in a dimly lit Hoboken restaurant. Lexi sits with her former nursing coworkers, discussing the most ridiculous patient and staff stories from the hospital since the last time they all connected. Lexi is embarrassed to admit that she hasn’t been able to attend one of these meet ups since Lucie was 3 months old. Her daughter is over a year old now. But life has been hectic with her and Nico’s new addition, plus the long stretches of hockey the Devils have been playing.
It’s all worth the sacrifice to watch Nico hoist the cup above his head. Soon, Lexi thinks. Soon he will reach his dream and then maybe the pressure can ease a bit.
With two fingers, she twirls the stem of her now empty martini glass as Gretchen whines about the limited available to take time off with how short staffed the hospital is.
“We need more people. They can’t even find nurses through the program Lexi came here on.”
“Really?” Lexi’s eye raise in surprise. “It was so competitive when I started there.”
“The pandemic has thinned the desire. Plus working conditions are awful.” Lexi nods. The circumstances weren’t great when she left either.
“Honestly, even if we could find part time people it would help alleviate the pressure.” Ashley mutters, throwing her curly red hair back over her shoulder. The table pauses. Then collectively, they all glance Lexi’s way, including Shawna, who had been relatively quiet.
“What? Me?”
“You were just talking about how boring and mundane your life has been. Maybe… coming back part time would help fulfill your sense of purpose.” Ashley shrugs.
“Lex, things haven’t been the same since you left. We could really use your sunshine right now.” Gretchen adds on.
“I am raising my daughter. That is my priority.” Lexi hears herself say the same thing her and Nico have talked about since Lexi became pregnant. But inside her body, a bubble of hope and excitement fills her chest. It starts as a tiny, translucent circle and begins to grow the more the two women encourage her to reconsider.
“Raising Lucie is incredibly important.” Shawn agrees. “This wouldn’t detract from that, especially on a part time basis. Think of your immediate impact! You haven’t been out of the industry that long. All your certifications are still relevant. You could easily slide in a few days a week, for 3-4 hours at a time. They’re even allowing part-timers to build their own schedule from week to week. It would be the perfect fit for you!”
“And they have daycare in the hospital now! You could bring Lucie there. Socialization is so important for babies. You could have it all right there rather than scheduling a million mommy and me play dates.”
Lexi stares at her three friends in front of her, a slight smile on her face. The gears turn in her head, consider, contemplating, feeling excited at the prospect of returning to a profession she spent so many hours of her life working in. But the though of Brady looms over her head. Losing him took Lexi a long time to get through. She still wakes up at night sometimes, hearing the flat line of his monitor.
“I don’t think I could go back to pediatric. Not with Lucie.” Lexi shakes her head, sighing.
“You wouldn’t have to. They are fully staffed.” Gretchen assures. She begins to dig around in her purse. “Look, just call Aly. She would be excited to hear from you. The rest could easily get worked out.” Lexi takes Ally Schneider’s card, her former boss. Ally had been the one who held Lexi after she lost Brady. She was the one who sent Lexi home and she was the one who accepted her resignation a week later, with full grace and understanding. She would be compassionate and supportive of Lexi being a mother. Maybe this could work.
In a quiet room, in the back of her mind, a part of her pauses at the thought of bringing this up to Nico. He is so proud of Lexi being a stay at home mom and wife. He shouts it to anyone who will listen about Lexi’s important role in their household. She does worthwhile work for them. He puts he on a pedestal because of it.
Lexi decides that she will talk to Ally first, before she approaches it with Nico. After all, her friends have a clear agenda here. Maybe it wouldn’t be as simple and flexible as they are portraying.
So Lexi decides, before she talks to Nico, she will talk to Ally.
- - -
Later that week, Lexi steps out of her evening shower, onto the white, memory foam mat. Nico waits outside the glass enclosure, holding up a fluffy towel for her to step into. He wraps it around her back, then lazily stuffs one corner over the other into her breasts. Lexi grips the towel closed, knowing it won’t stay up like that. That may have been her husband’s agenda.
“Thank you.” She sighs, getting on her tip toes to kiss him. He crushes her into his chest, using his tongue to trace along her lip, then dash into her mouth. Lexi melts into his sexy warmth. Nico grips the towel at her hips, pulling her flush with him.
“You’re welcome. Luc is sleeping.”
“Finally.” Lexi sighs.
They had a hard night with Lucie. She was fighting sleep from the moment dinner ended, rubbing her eyes, and saying no to bed time, even to daddy. They both took turns rocking her, putting her in her crib, but nothing was giving. Finally, Nico took her to the couch with a warmed up blanket from the dryer. Lexi disappeared upstairs at Nico’s request. Between now and then, their little girl finally succumbed. Nights like this are becoming more prevalent for Lucie. Lexi is not surprised as their little girl is more toddler than baby these days. Both her and Nico need to buckle up for the upcoming roller coaster of their daughter growing up. She smiles at the thought. There is no one else Lexi would rather do this with.
How will you going back to work effect her? An inner voice whispers like a siren.
Lexi raises her green eyes to the mirror, staring at her expression. She looks worried. And she is. Because she has a job offer expiring tomorrow that she still hasn’t talked to her husband about. She never expected to walk out of her meeting with Ally three days ago with an offer of employment. She had told Ally she needed time to talk to Nico, but then the Devils lost two back to back games and Nico’s mood has been less than desirable for the conversation.
Beside her, Nico grabs his tooth brush then dots toothpaste on the bristles. Lexi assesses his mood, seeing him relaxed although a bit tired.
“Can we talk about something?” She begins while dabbing a finger into her moisturizer. She presses three generous dots in a triangle, then begins to smooth them into her face.
“Mhm.” He says around the tooth brush oscillating against his back molars.
“I think…” Lexi starts, then swallows loudly as she stop herself. Nico continues to brush his teeth, looking at her in the mirror. She pretends to smooth out more of her moisturizer on her neck. Her heart flutters heavily against her throat. When she doesn’t continue, Nico turns fully to look at her.
“What?” He mumbles around the white foam in his mouth. Her tongue caresses the side of her mouth anxiously.
Why is this so hard to spit out?
Nico spits out his toothpaste, then wipes his mouth.
“I think I want to go back to work.” She finally sputters out. Nothing about her voice sounds confident. Nico whips his head in surprise at her. He opens his mouth and then closes it, pursing his lips. Lexi immediately sense his annoyance.
“Okay? But, we have talked about how important it is for you to stay home with Luc? You’ve always agreed to that.”
“Yeah….” She trails off, sticking her tongue into the pocket of her cheek so it juts out. “But I’ve been thinking about what I want lately, as me, and I really miss working with patients and having a place to go outside of here.” Nico’s eyes widen, and he looks away, sighing.
“Okay.” He shakes his head. “I thought you were done with nursing after Brady.” Lexi doesn’t flinch at his name, but her heartbeat patters more heavily in her body.
“I thought so too, but it’s been calling to me the last few months. And I have an opportunity to go back.”
“I don’t see how that is going to work for our family.” Nico shrugs simply, already seeming done with the conversation.
“Well, can we talk about it? Because I talked with Ally-”
“What does you talking with Ally have to do with our family? Because you and I have already discussed this, before we had Lucie. You said you would stay home because I’m gone so much. How…” Nico scoffs, looking above her head, trying to find his words. “So what, someone else is going to come here every day and watch her? Or we drop her off at some day care center where random people are raising her?”
“They have a daycare at the hospital. She could go-”
“No. Our daughter deserves better than that.” Nico shakes his head vigorously.
“So you just unilaterally decide this for me then?”
“So you unilaterally get to decide to go back to work?” He shoots back at her. Lexi stand up completely straight, rolling her shoulders back.
“You don’t own me.” She hisses out unexpectedly. Immediately, she wants to take the words back at the fire igniting in Nico’s eyes. His cheeks begin to turn red in frustration while he forces a hand through his long, brown locks.
“When did I say that?” Nico snaps. His tone and voice are reaching places Lexi has never heard from him. Her eyes narrow at him, then she turns to leave the bathroom. Nico is hot on her heels. “You’re putting me in a position to be the asshole, Lex. You and I agreed you would stay home with our kids.”
“Well I need something more!” She huffs at him. “Emma gets to go be-”
“That’s Emma and Timo. Not us.” She startles, feeling like a scolded child by their parent. Tears begin to fill her eyes at the shame of his disappointed scowl.
“I’m allowed to change my mind.” She whispers to him, hating the way her lip trembles.
“Yeah you are, but not when it ruins our kid’s life.”
“Nico, that is so unfair.” Her tone wobbles at her words. Nico’s jaw tightens at the two drops that escape her lids. He looks away, large eyebrows jumping as he tries to brush the effect of her emotions away.
“I don’t care, Lexi.” Nico shakes his head again. “The answer is no.”
Lexi shakes her head in disgust before heading into their master closet to change. She cries as she pulls on her pajamas. When she returns with tears on her face, Nico doesn’t even care.
Instead, he climbs into bed and turns his back to her like a cold, distant monster.
- - -
Nico and Lexi don’t talk the whole next day. Not even about Lucie. They move around the house, avoiding each other. She goes to the store to grab groceries; he stays home with Lucie. They sit silently, watching TV during dinner. Lucie doesn’t seem to notice, snacking on her food and playing with her toys like everything is normal.
This continues into the following morning when Nico has to head out on a five game road trip. He dotes all over their daughter as Lexi’s resentment for him breeds into an ugly, angry tyrant in her mind. She doesn’t even let him kiss her cheek when he is about to leave. She slides away from him, turning her back on him like he did to her two nights ago. His heavy sigh makes tears sting her eyes, like she is the one in the wrong here.
“Lex.”
“Nothing about this will be resolved before you leave in the next two minutes. Travel safe.” She responds without turning towards him.
He stands there for a few more moments, rubbing his hand along Lucie’s head as she munches on her oatmeal. Internally, Lexi wonders if he will try to find some middle ground regardless of her words. But then Nico leaves without apologizing, or saying I love you, or providing any comfort like he usually does. She feels herself hating him a little bit more.
She doesn’t watch the Devils games that week.
She is so angry with Nico. They do nightly FaceTime calls with Lucie, but Lexi don’t speak to her husband. Nico gets more and more frustrated with her. It begins to bleed out onto the ice against the St. Louis Blues. Nico gets two penalties in the game, including five minutes for fighting. Of course, Lexi doesn’t know this because she is watching. She knows because Emma Meier shows up at their door with a bottle of rose the next day.
“What is going on?” She asks when Lexi opens the door. Lio is on her hip, munching on an apple sauce pouch as she strolls in. Emma is in dark wash, tight designer jeans and a tan, long sleeved crop top. Her hair is straightened and perfect, not even a hint of frizz from the rainy humidity earlier in the morning. She puts the bottle of rose on the counter, then goes to put Lio next to Lucie. She’s pulling her skin tight jeans back up her waist as she looks expectantly at Lexi. “Nico wouldn’t share anything with me. Timo couldn’t get it out of him either.”
“Of course not.” Lexi snorts, then rolls her tense neck muscles out. Emma nods her head at Lexi to continue. She sighs, crossing her arms over her chest. “I want to go back to work and the dictator of this house said no.” Emma widens her eyes.
“Nico said no?” The words seemingly taste awful to her as she says them.
“Yep. He told me if I go back to work I’m ruining our daughter’s life.”
“No.” Emma’s mouth opens in shock.
“Yes!” Lexi exclaims, reaching for the bottle of wine. She twists the top open, then takes two really big glugs. The acidity burns at her esophagus as she puts the bottle back down. Emma picks it up, taking a more delicate sip. She slowly blinks and shakes her head.
“Wow, I’m surprised.”
“Me too.” Lexi responds, sighing heavily. Tears prick at her eyes as she recounts the conversation from last week. She purses her lips, looking back at Emma.
“I don’t understand why he gets to make this decision for me?”
“He doesn’t.” Emma says simply. “This is your life. You have the right to do the things you want to do with it. Your partner needs to be supportive of that.”
“Nico doesn’t seem to see it that way.” Lexi looks out into the living room, watching as Lucie coos at Lio, holding up a large, red lego block. Lio takes it from her, then puts it next to a blue one.
“Oh we can’t do that one. Rangers colors.” Lio shakes his head. “Grab a green one, LuLu.”
“I’ll talk to him.” Emma insists after pouring two glasses of rose. “He is being unreasonable.”
“Actually, I’d prefer if you didn’t.” Lexi sighs, tracing a circle onto the marble counter top, then looks up at her. “I think it would just make it worse.” Emma scans her sister-in-law, then nods in understanding.
This is one they’ll have to work through on their own.
- - -
The night Nico is due home, Lexi stares at the ceiling, replaying everything that has happened in the last two weeks. Life went from the mundane, same day over and over again, to this angsty, aching storyline of push and pull between a husband and wife. She went from having no job prospects, to receiving an offer, to turning it down. She hasn’t even told Nico. She doesn’t want to. Doesn’t feel like he deserves to know with the way he has been acting.
Her phone lights up the room as the garage camera catches Nico returning home from his late night flight from Colorado. Tears curve into the water line of Lexi’s eyes. Normally, after a road trip this long, she would gallop down the stairs excitedly to throw herself into his arms. He could catch her. They would make out like teenagers against the refrigerator, then he would carry her upstairs to make love.
Not tonight.
Her brain traces his path through the house from memory, knowing when he stops at Lucie’s room. Five minutes later, she hears him rustling with his bag outside and closes her eyes, pretending to be asleep so she can avoid an interaction with him. Her lip trembles as she shakily swallows to wet her dry throat.
Nico comes into the bedroom almost completely silent. He drops his things in the closet and presumably changes. Lexi’s chest aches when he comes to the bed and grabs his pillow afterwards. His footsteps are so silent, when his voice speaks from next to her, her heart jumped into her throat.
“Lex?” She startles at his touch. Nico grimaces. “I’m sorry… When I went in to kiss Luc, she was hot. She has a fever.” Lexi moves to get up. Lucie was fine when she checked her a few hours ago. “No, please. I’d like to take care of her myself.”
“You can bring her in here.”
“No, you deserve to sleep.” He reaches out tentatively for her cheek, cupping it briefly. “Goodnight. I love you.” It’s the first time he’s said it to her directly in a week. He moves to pull away and she grips his wrist.
“I love you too.” She earnestly looks into his deep, brown eyes. “But I am also so mad at you.”
"I know. You have every right to be.” He maintains direct eye contact when he says it. Lexi’s eyebrows furrow. “We will talk tomorrow.” He leans down tentatively and Lexi goes the other 50% until their lips meet. The kiss is sad and achey. Their lips crave the taste of the other, but can’t go all in like they want to. Lexi pulls away first, stroking her nose along Nico’s. She can feel his lashes against her forehead. Then he pulls away to go lay on the floor of their daughter’s room.
The next morning, Lexi is up first. She pokes her head into the guest room, seeing Nico and Lucie have moved there together. Lucie’s bare feet are pressed into Nico’s chest, cheeks pink, hair wild like it had been sweaty and dried sometime during the night. Lexi creeps in, pressing a hand to her toddler’s forehead. No fever. With that comfort, she tiptoes from the room again.
Downstairs, she makes herself a berry smoothie and settles into the couch with a book. She stays there for a bit, then begins to feel antsy waiting for her loves to wake up. She heads back upstairs, unpacking Nico’s bag completely and getting started on his laundry. She bring his three suits to the downstairs closet for dry cleaning to pick up tomorrow.
It’s almost lunch time when a sleepy Nico and Lucie come downstairs together. Lucie smiles at her mama around a pacifier in her mouth. Lexi arches a slender eyebrow at Nico. Lucie hasn’t had pacifiers for 6 months.
“I lost the battle.” He groggily mumbles. His long hair is flopping every which way. He hands their daughter over to Lexi, then kisses her head. “ ‘m gonna take a shower.”
Nico disappears back upstairs while Lexi gives Lucie some of her leftover smoothie. She sucks it up happily, babbling for some banana when she is done. Lexi is cutting that up when Nico returns downstairs. His hair is slicked back from his shower. He is dressed in new lounge sweats while texting on his phone.
“Do you want a smoothie?” Lexi asks him.
“No, I’m going to make myself some eggs. Do you want any?”
“No, I already ate.”
“Okay.” He wraps an arm around her waist from behind. Lexi resists the urge to tense, trying to purposefully relax her upper body. Nico rests his chin on one of her shoulders, then turns his nose into her neck.
“I was completely out of line last week.” He murmurs while staying there. Lexi scoops up the banana pieces and puts them in a small bowl for Lucie, then slides it across the counter to where she is in her highchair. Lexi puts the knife down and turns so her and Nico are facing each other. He keeps her enclosed in his arms with a palm resting on the counter, on either side her.
“Do you only love me because I’m the mother of your child?” Lexi ponders.
“No, Lex. I love you. The person. So much.” He finishes with a whisper. His eyes trace her face earnestly. Lexi nods.
“I turned them down.” She admits.
“I’m sorry.”
“And I’m sorry if I have a hard time believing that.” Lexi says pointedly.
“Fair.” Nico nods then swallows hard. “But I am.”
“Can I get an explanation?” Lexi asks. She reaches her hands out to rest on his hips, gripping the waistband of his joggers as an anchor.
“I’m having a hard time with how much I’m missing of Lucie growing up. And I put that fear into you last week. Like… I’ve been able to fall back on the idea that you’re here. And if you go back to work, what will I have to ease my failures as a father?” He touches his chest delicately. Lexi lowers her gaze to his beaded bracelets. She moves one of her hands up to hold his wrist. “If this is what you need to do… to be happy… to feel what I get to feel when I step onto the ice every day, then I am in full support of you.”
She stares at his chest, letting his words sink in. As he always is, Nico is patient. When her eyes meet his again, they stare at each other wordlessly for a moment. She is wary. He can sense it.
“I know I hurt you and I’m so sorry.” He whispers. She nods her head in recognition of his apology.
“Nico, you are an amazing dad. It makes me really sad you feel like you’re failing our daughter. That couldn’t be farther from the truth.” She shakes her head, blowing out a sigh. “And I wish you would have shared that with me before it turned into this.”
“I’m embarrassed.” He shrugs. “I’ve been good at everything my whole life. Working so hard to overcome any obstacles.. but there are things I can’t give to Lucie and it kills me, babe.” The way he says babe wrecks her. Lexi moves his hand to the side so she can slide against his chest. Her fingers clutch at his muscular back and dig into his scalp as she cradles their heads together.
“She is so lucky to have you, Neeks.” Lexi turns to kiss his stubbled cheek. He buries his nose deeper into her collar bone as she stroke along his spine. “I am too.” His large arms wrap around her waist, enclosing it completely.
“Tell me again?”
“Hmm?”
“Tell me you are thinking about going back to work.”
“I’m… thinking about going back to work?”
“Okay. Whatever you want to do is what works for our family. We will figure it out.” Nico murmurs. “That’s what I should have said to you. I’m sorry I didn’t.” Lexi smiles against his cheek. Nico turns, capturing her lips.
“I accept your apology.” She murmurs. “But I really did already turn Ally down.”
“I’ll call Ally. Tell her your husband was a fucking idiot last week, but he’s done with that.” Lexi chuckles, top teeth dragging over her bottom lip.
“I would like to try it. See if we can find a balance?”
“Yes, 100% yes, baby.”
Across the counter, Lucie squeals excitedly then throws her banana bowl onto the floor.
“Oh! LuLu is in too!” Nico cheers. “Yay mommy!!!” He claps around her back. Lexi chuckles, a whole body rumbling one as her and Nico separate. Nico grabs Lexi’s phone, sliding it across the counter. “Call Ally.”
Ally extends another offer to Lexi immediately on the phone.
Within an hour, Lexi has signed an offer letter and has orientation scheduled for the following Monday. Nico brings her to her first day of work, packs her lunch, and spends the whole time Lexi is working with Lucie in the day care, spending time with the kids, signing autographs for staff members and patients alike. By the end of the Lexi’s four hour shift, he is exhausted.
“No wonder you need a break.” He mumbles, exhaustedly running a hand over his hand. “And she isn’t even tired.” He points out about a babbling Lucie in her carseat.
“Welcome to my life.” Lexi smirks, then clicks her seatbelt in place. Nico wraps her hand in his, bringing it up to kiss along her knuckles. “So what’s for dinner stay at home dad?” Nico balks at her.
“McDonalds.” He chuckles, turning out of the parking lot.
With ease, the Hischiers settled into this adjusted life, until two pink lines show up a few months later on a test in their master bathroom.

Sometimes you just need your brother || Pt.4
Makayla Verstappen (OC) x f1 grid
Summary: Max and the drivers arrive at the house to get Makayla, but are they too late or have they arrived just in time…?
Taglist: @eugene-emt-roe @fionaschicken @charli123456789 @badgermaster27 @heyheyheyggg @ferrarifan4ever
Series
“So, what’s the plan then?” Charles asked. “Just get Mack out there as soon as possible” Max told him. “I just hope we aren’t too late..” Max whispered to himself as they arrived at the house.
“Is there a way to get into the basement instead of going into the house?” Daniel asked. “Yeah, follow my lead” Max said as they all got out the car.
The four drivers made their way into the back garden and went down towards a window that looked into the basement. All their faces fell once they looked in..
Makayla had tears falling down her face and it looked like she hadn’t slept or ate anything in ages. Max’s face went full of rage.
“I’m actually going to kill him” Max said. “Mate, I know you do but let’s get Mack out there first, okay?” Daniel told him as he nodded.
Max lightly tapped on the window gaining the attention of Makayla, she looked up instantly and a faint smile came on her face before she slowly got up and made her way towards the window.
“Told you I will be here” Max said as he helped his sister out the window and pulled her into his embrace. “I missed you so much..” Makayla mumbled. “I thought I was going to die in there” Makayla added.
“You aren’t going to see him again, I’ve got nearly all the paper work done so I’ll become your legal guardian” Max told her. “Really?!” Makayla exclaimed as tears fell down her face. Max nodded with a bit smile on his face before wiping the tears off his sister’s face.
“Hate to ruin this, but a car just pulled up” Daniel said as Makayla’s eyes widen. “How are you going to get me out without him knowing?!” Makayal asked. “I’ll go talk to him, you three get Mack’s things and stay here until I tell you all to” Max told him.
“Mack, c’mon I’ll help you get some things” Lando said as they all watched Max leave to go to the front of the house. “What if something happens to Max?” Makayla adked.
“He will be fine, he’s been dealing with your father his whole life” Charles told her. “And we are also here if he needs any backup” Daniel added. “Alright, I’ll go get some of my stuff” Makayla said as her and Lando made their way into the house.
Moments later they were back outside and could hear the shouting of Max and Jos. “What’s happening?” Makayla asked. “Just shouting at each other” Charles replied.
“Did he go out last night?” Daniel asked. “He went out like 3 days ago, this is the first time he’s been back” Makayla told them as they all looked at her with concern.
“You’ve been alone down there for 3 days?” Charles said softly. “Yeah…” Makayla mumbled. “Have you had any food or drink?” Lando asked. “Only water…I passed out a few times as well..” Makayla added.
“We need to get you to hospital as soon as possible” Daniel told her. “Can it be in Monaco? I have bad memories of hospitals here” Makayla said. “As long as you go to one,” Charles told her.
“Guys! Lets go, he’s in the house passed out drunk on the couch” Max said as the three drivers and Makayla ran towards the car. “Let’s get you back home” Max whispered as he pulled his sister into a hug.
Lando put Makayla’s stuff in the car, before Daniel started to drive to the airport. Makayla had fallen asleep with her head rested on Max’s head. “Mate, before you take her home she needs to go to the hospital” Charles told him as Max looked confused.
“Why?” Max asked looking down at his sister. “She’s been all alone down there for 3 days without any food, she only had water and told us she’s passed out a few times” Daniel told him.
“I’m going to actually kill him, but I’ll take her to the hospital in Monaco not here” Max said. “Mack said that too, why doesn’t she want to go to hospital here?” Lando asked.
“Her mother died here, we don’t really like going into that hospital. I wasn’t close to her but I know that she protected Mack from a lot. Her last words to me was to protect Mack and that’s what I’m doing” Max told them softly.
“Sorry, if I knew I wouldn’t have asked” Lando added. “It’s alright, don’t worry about it” Max replied. They arrived at the airport moments later and made their way to Max’s jet, Max was carrying his sister.
Makayla woke up quite confused as she looked around she saw that she was in the plane. “Well, hi sleepyhead” Daniel joked seeing her awake as a faint smile appeared on Makayla’s face.
“We are almost in Monaco now, get you straight to the hospital” Max said as she nodded before putting her headphones on to listen to music while looking out the window.
Max smiled at his little sister, happy that he has got her out of the situation with their father. “She looks so peaceful, glad we got her out of there” Daniel said. “Yeah me too, thanks guys for the help” Max replied.
“It’s no problem mate, Mack is like a sister to us as well” Lando added. “We would help her in anyway” Charles said. Eventually, the 5 of them landed back in Monaco where the 3 drivers would leave the Verstappen siblings to go to the hospital.
Makayla hugged the 3 of them before waiting in the car for Max to bid goodbye to his fellow drivers. “You’re going to be alright, okay? It will only be for a few nights or even just a night” Max told her.
“Thanks for everything Max, I owe you so much for doing all this for me. I don’t know how I am ever going to repay you” Makayla said. “It’s my job as an older brother, you don’t need to repay me in anything” Max replied.
“But you’re going to become my legal guardian! You shouldn’t have to worry about doing that, I would just get in the way of everything..” Makayla added as the arrived at the hospital.
Max parked his car and turned to look at his little sister. “Mack, listen. You will never be in the way of me, I want to become your legal guardian because dad has failed to be that. I want you to know what it feels like to have a normal childhood. I know it’s only going to be 2 years till your 18, but we will do everything in these 2 years to make up from all these awful past years” Max told her as they both at tears falling down their faces.
“I love you so much, I couldn’t have asked for a better brother than you” Makayla replied as the hugged tightly before getting out the car. “I love you too Mack, c’mon let’s go and get you better” Max added as the made the way into the hospital.

would you be able to write something where the reader is maverick’s daughter and roosters girlfriend; she’s called back to top gun and graduated with rooster, grew up with him, etc. she is selected for the mission as well as Phoenix/bob, then rooster (so she would be on dagger 4). she sees her dad get shot down, is in the midst of trying to hold in her emotions, when rooster goes after him and also gets shot down? The last remaining have to fly back so once they land she goes somewhere to get air and doesn’t realize they’re okay until someone comes to get her? then she quite literally sprints to them and pushes through everyone (so sorry for the word vomit). angst and fluff PLEASE
for her.

a/n: oooooo yesssss! Love this! sorry this one took me a little bit to get to! I hope you like it :)
"Dagger 1 is hit!" Phoenix calls. "Dagger 1 is hit!"
The words are replaced with a high pitch tone as you realize the meaning behind your friend's words.
Was this sound just in your ears? Or were you and Payback next?
You and your boyfriend, Rooster, were called back to Top Gun recently. The two of you, along with the rest of your crew were taught how to fly this mission by your dad. Eventually, your dad 'Maverick'ed his way into the team leader spot. He chose you and Rooster to fly with him.
Maverick is in Dagger 1.
Your dad is in Dagger 1.
"Boho, you with me?" Payback calls from the front of your F-18.
You can't form words. Even if you wanted to, you couldn't.
"B, don't look," Payback warned you. Naturally, you turn your face to the right and see Mav's F-18 spiral toward the ground. A golf-ball sized lump forms in your throat.
You're going to pass out.
"I am going after him," your boyfriend says over comms.
No. No. He can't.
"Rooster, you can't. We've been told not to go back," Payback says.
That high pitch tone is still ringing in your ears. You can't stop picturing the smoke and flames coming from your dad's F-18. Maverick has always warned and prepared you that every time one of you goes up, you may not come back.
You just never thought you'd loose your dad on the same mission.
"I have to. For her."
You hear the dagger teams argue over the comms while simultaneously dodging enemy fire. You work through your weapons expertly, mindlessly.
"Dagger 3 is hit!" this time, it's Payback delivering the news over the comms.
Your dad and your boyfriend. The two most important men in your life. Blown from the sky.
"We've been ordered to go back. They don't want us turning around," Payback tells you. You nod your head even though he can't see, still numb. Still processing.
When the four of you make it back to the boat, you exit your aircraft with that same ringing in your ear. You stumble to the left, and then the right.
Is your head full of water right now?
"Boho, are you--" Jake reaches for you, but you move past him, like you don't hear him.
"Lieutenant Mitchell, you need to be debriefed," Cyclone commands, but this doesn't stop you from moving forward. Trying to find somewhere to let yourself breathe, to feel. To sort out these emotions. Warlock puts a hand on Cyclone's shoulder, holding him back from coming after you.
You make it to the other side of the boat before all hell breaks loose. Everything hits you like a Mack truck. Your dad was shot down. You watched his plane fall from the sky. Your boyfriend went after him.
"For her," he said.
Why the FUCK would Cyclone let your dad select you and Rooster for this mission. Wasn't that nepotism? Wasn't it a conflict of interest? What would Ice think?
It doesn't matter. He wasn't here anymore, either.
Gripping the side of the boat, your knuckles go white. Tears fall from your face. Your mind goes to Penny, to Amelia. To your mom.
Tears fall for yourself. Rooster doesn't have anyone besides you and your family. You will have to see to the arrangements. The love of your life's arrangements.
What kind of sick fucking joke is this?
"Boho! Boho! Where the fuck are you?" Jake's voice gets louder as he closes in on your hiding spot. "Y/n!"
You turn and take in the cocky aviator. "What, Hangman? What in the world could possibly be that important right now?"
Jake takes in your appearance and sympathy fills his eyes. The last thing you want is sympathy from Hangman.
"Come with me," his voice is soft, he holds out a hand.
You shake your head. "Tell Cyclone he's just going to have to wait. I don't care if he's an admiral, I just lost my dad and Bradley." Your voice breaks when you say the words aloud. Like you saying them just made it final.
It was already final when you watched both F-18 fall to the Earth in flames.
Hangman doesn't listen. Grabbing your hand, he forces you to follow him. You think about fighting him off, but suddenly, you don't have the energy.
As he pulls you back to the runway, everyone is shouting. Or is that cheering?
What could they be cheering for?
As you come around the corner, you see what everyone is cheering for.
You see Rooster first. He looks positively exhausted, and absolutely delectable. Is this a mirage?
Jake pushes you forward, and this resets your brain. You run, no sprint, through the crowd. Everyone steps aside as you shove through. Standing in front of Rooster, new tears fall from your face. Tears of relief.
"Oh honey," he says, drinking you in. You close the distance between you and run into his arms. Rooster lifts you up and your legs wrap around his waist. Grabbing his face in your hands, you attack him in kisses. When you're satisfied, you pull back and look him in the eye.
"I thought you were gone," you whisper. Rooster brings a hand to your face, wiping a tear away.
"I'm here," he says, pulling you in for another kiss. "I'm here, baby."
Your brain short circuits, and you pull back. "Dad?!" you whisper.
Rooster sets you down, and steps aside. You see your dad talking to Phoenix and Bob.
Relief washes through you for a second time. Both your guys were back and safe.
"Dad!" you shout, getting his attention. Maverick turns toward you and grins. He opens his arms to you, and you rush into them as if you are 5 again, and had just woken up from a nightmare.
Honestly, you really had.
"I see how it is, you go to Rooster first, then me," he chuckles. You pull away and swat his chest, your laughter mixing with tears.
Rooster's hand finds its way to the small of your back. He and Maverick take each other in, and Maverick reaches for him. Pulling him into a hug, you hear him say, "Thank you for coming back for me."
"It's what my dad would have done," Rooster murmurs into Maverick's shoulder.

My silly thoughts on Guesthouse of the (Lost) Astartes Series
Tagging: @kit-williams, @gallifreyianrosearkytiorsusan, @sleepyfan-blog,
@bispecsual, @c-u-c-koo-4-40k, @barn-anon, @bleedingichorhearts
Here are some of my own thoughts/headcanons/comments while writing this story:
Erriox loves Lenora very very much, and Lenora feels the same. Though it took them longer before their bond truly became a mate bond. Whereas Alcyon and Malaran has an intense bond with Amelia and Ben respectively, resulting in Malaran considering Ben, his child, and Alcyon considers Amelia his mate/wife within a very short period of time. It wasn't exactly difficult for Alcyon to take the role that Amelia's ex left behind, to be honest.
Potential number of Ben’s dads = - 1 + 2. Problem here would be that Malaran and Alcyon might start butting heads if Ben starts calling either of them 'dad'. Especially if Ben starts calling Alcyon 'dad'. As chaos space marines are rather possessive of their bonded humans.
The deeply religious consider chaos space marines as demons and of the devil. Any one who is bonded to one are either ousted or must be 'saved'. Since Ben is the firstborn (only) son, they were trying to 'save' him from Malaran's 'influence'. His mother (Amelia) already 'fell' (bonded with a chaos Iron Warrior), but since she's the wife and not truly family, ousting her was not a big issue. They can raise Ben themselves to make sure he walks the right path in life.
Erriox just wants to mack on Lenora. Malaran's a prick for calling him out.
Alcyon, despite being a chaos space marine, has some degree of propriety. Put it this way: say he has it in his head of wanting to bend Amelia over the admin desk of the medical wing and take her right there, he'll think it, but he ain't gonna say it out loud or at least not until when they're in private. Malaran doesn't have as much of a filter.
Lenora prefers that Amelia remember her as a responsible adult, and not take children for high-speed joyrides chases on winter roads. She is a decent driver, but even that was pushing her skills to the limit and she heavily relied on luck to get them through okay.
Erriox has seen Lenora drive, but never like the Tokyo Drift stunt she pulled. Poor man darn near had a heart attack. That was the first time he had to confront the fact that Lenora could've gotten seriously hurt or killed before his eyes and there was very little he could do to stop it as he was also dealing with the Black Templar at the time.
When Erriox and Malaran took a long time to get back to the base, that was the first time Lenora got scared that Erriox was going to die or was dead. To say the least, both of them had some reservations of this whole plan at some point, despite only outright saying so at the end.
Don’t leave a mess in Apothecary Osteron’s medbay. Medics are scary when angry. I picture him as a mix of Ratchet from Transformers and Unohana from Bleach. He has health and safety standards and it is important to keep his medbay clean. His poor staff JUST cleaned it, he's not about to make them do it again. Might as well get the three knuckleheads to do it since they were the ones who made the mess.
Alcyon once made children cry when he went to the medical ward to pick up Amelia, because he was so intimidating.
Also, Alcyon can’t purr like Malaran or Erriox. Man’s still learning. Amelia finds his attempts to purr cute and endearing despite sounding like something between a broken engine, snarl, and the lowing of needy tiger (or a lowing cow).
Warmaster be like “This bunch of chucklefucks just haaaaad to start shit with the goddamn Black Templar.” Now he has to do PR and negotiations to avoid too much bad blood with the Imperial Fists in the city. All he wanted was just one week without drama. His dang fault though. This wouldn't have happened if Amelia wasn't banned from contacting her son.
Amelia knows some Gothic. She knows enough, but not a lot. That's why she was blushing when Malaran made that comment.
Does she know that Alcyon pretty much considers her his mate/ wife? Yes, from his actions, but Alcyon had never outright told her. Sometimes he would call her by those names in Gothic as a term of endearment, but never told her what they mean. However, like she mentioned in the chapter, the wounds left by previous relationship is still pretty fresh. While she loves Alcyon deeply and returns his affections, at that point, Amelia's still pretty hesitant about calling Alcyon her lover.
Malaran can and will start shit, especially if it has anything to do with Ben. Also, he can be a little shit sometimes.
Meaning in floriography of the little bouquet of yarrow (Achillea millefolium) and dandelion on Alcyon’s desk. Dandelions symbolize hope, strength, resilience, and renewal. Yarrow has the double meaning of love and healing, and can also mean “I love you in spite of everything” or everlasting love. Like dandelions, it is also considered a tough hardy weed, which is representative of Alcyon’s physical character and th resilience of the bond itself.
Alcyon gifted the flowers to her as part of his apology for the fallout from his fight with the Black Templar at Ben's school. That was a massive fuck up on his part and he knew it. At first Alcyon didn't think much of it and thought that was in his right to challenge the Black Templar, with the intention of winning back Ben for Amelia, only to realize that it cost her the last chance to see her son. With Amelia not wanting to be near him nor see him for an extended period of time, and the bond backlashing onto him, it was causing Alcyon to start to lose his mind. Luckily, Osteron intervened and managed to convince Amelia to at least meet with him again. From there, Alcyon slowly made amends for his mistake. He fell hard for this woman and formed such an intense bond, so it was something he couldn't easily give up. His brothers advised him that human women loved flowers, so he ended up picking a bunch that was available at the time and gifting it to Amelia. It wasn't much and the way he presented them to her was kind of awkward and intimidating, but it was a start and his apology was genuine, and Amelia was touched by the gesture. To say the least, they spent that night making up for lost time in his room. She decided to the flowers left behind on his desk, to add "a pop of colour" to the grey utilitarian style of the room. Alcyon couldn't help but indulge her request. He later learned about the symbolic meanings of the flowers that he gave Amelia, and found it amusing and ironically fitting for what he was trying to say when he gifted them to her.
I think that bonds can be negatively affected and broken not just by death and distance, but also by major emotional trauma. Intense bonds, like between Alcyon and Amelia, are affected by the consequences of emotional trauma more harshly than normal bonds. How it could be saved just depends on how resilient the relationship is between the two parties and/or if they are lucky enough to have someone to intervene before that bond is broken. On the other hand, it is entirely possible that the affected space marine will hunt down his bonded human in an attempt to either save the bond from being broken or quell the psychic backlash. (Possibly becoming yandere in the process)
Love to know your thoughts as well!

"I Don’t Care If The Sun Don’t Shine"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[1] Elvis photographed at the Blue Light studio in Memphis, 1954. [2] Cinderella, a Disney movie released in 1950. [3] Elvis' first Sun Records publicity portrait, 1954.
Studio Sessions for Sun September 10–?, 1954: Sun Studio, Memphis The songs that came to Elvis’s mind were as motley a crew as can be imagined, yet each one was drawn from his own experiences. His prodigious memory helped him dredge up songs from the oddest places, and the Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis movie "Scared Stiff" was one. He recalled Martin’s rendition of a number called “I Don’t Care If The Sun Don’t Shine,” which had actually been written for Cinderella but was never used in the Disney film. The movie version differed from Martin’s 1950 recorded version, and it was the screen performance he remembered; he took Martin’s approach one step further, speeding the song up, solidifying the beat, and adding an energetic vocal delivery on top.
Excerpt: "Elvis Presley: A Life in Music" by Ernst Jorgensen. Foreword by Peter Guralnick (1998)

“I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine” was written by Mack David in 1949 for the Disney film “Cinderella”, but the song ended up being misused for the film released in the early 1950. The song was recorded by different artists during the following years. For instance, in addition to Dean Martin, Patti Page is another artist for whom Elvis had the greatest admiration. Her version of “I Don’t Care If The Sun Don’t Shine” was released in 1950. It’s not strange to assume that Elvis also heard her version before recording the song in 1954.

The Ones Who Live (episode 4 spoilers)
My head feels like it's going to implode in on me and I just need to vomit my thoughts somewhere before it does. I remember hearing about the The Walking Dead (literally everyone and their mother was talking about it). I remember never wanting to watch it because it was SO popular and I've never been a huge fan of watching anything while it was still going live and everyone was into it. I'm weird IDK.
I had just finished up another TV series and was feeling empty, as one usually does and just wanted to dive into a new series. I chose The Walking Dead, finally deciding to give it a chance. I binged the first 4 seasons on Netflix and as I was doing this, it was literally becoming life saving. Only a few short years prior to starting the series I had just started dealing with severe depression. It was crippling. IYKYK. And to make a long story short, falling in love with this show, falling in love with Rick Grimes gave me something to hold on to.
'It's just a show' - this has been said to me many times. But it's not just a show to me. It's a lifeline. Its taking an inspiring moment and grabbing it with the only strength you have left and burning it into your head because if they can do it you can do it. You'll think about it the next time you feel like you can't get out of bed because there just isn't a point. It's taking a character and watching him fight for his sons life while everyone around belittles his character as a father and leader and using that the next time you feel like your chest is about to cave in from the sheer force of anxiety that just hit you like a mack truck. And you think about this character persevering while you sit in the corner of your bathroom floor with a cold rag on your face just simply trying to breathe.
So many examples, so many moments TWD has breathed life back into me when nothing else could.
And then Richonne.
RICHONNE.
Oh my god, what a fucking absolute treasure to emerge from this series. The slowburn of it, the showcasing of patience and friendship, love and trust and overcoming loss and hardships - together.
Finding your person. Camaraderie. True, real love. A soulmate. This? Despite loss, death at the hands of others, death at the hands of your own, tragedy, hopelessness, mental illness, losing your child? I can't even find words to express what Rick and Michonne mean to me separately, but as a couple? I am unable to express in words because it just would not do justice to what they actually represent to me in my own personal life.
Nearly a month ago we were given The Ones Who Live episode 1. And I remember watching that and having to physically remove myself from my home, go outside, sit down on the ground and reflect while sun soaking near a river. That's how blown away I was over the writing, the story, the emotions centered around this character that I have watched and grown to love over years.
Episode 4? EPISODE 4 is a fucking WELLSPRING of emotions, struggle with mental wellness, disagreement, unconditional love, immense hurt, understanding and patience. A relationship struggling to be what it was, if not anything at all. A broken man and a broken woman. A son, who has DIED years ago still finding a way to be the one who brings his parents back together. Who brings strength to his dad even after all this time...
Carl placed in the palm of his fathers hand as a sketch on a broken phone breathing life back into him. This, from his wife. Finding a way to save him. Giving him a sense of purpose, meaning back to him after he declared his own death not that long ago because he could not and does not ever want to live without her.
You cannot tell me that this show isn't important.
That it isn't life saving.
That it isn't at the very least forcing us to reflect and discuss and acknowledge our own lives, our own relationships, our own mental health, our own circumstances, our -
No.
This isn't just a show to me.
Thanks for reading my vomit novel.

Like Real People Do
Written By: Hozier
Artist: Hozier
Released: 2014
Alternate version included: Live in America, 2015
This song is a metaphor. Hozier uses “bog bodies” in Ireland, bodies which are exhumed after centuries of natural mummification, to describe a new relationship.
[Verse 1] I had a thought, dear, however scary About that night, the bugs and the dirt Why were you digging? What did you bury Before those hands pulled me from the earth? [Chorus] I will not ask you where you came from I will not ask and neither should you Honey, just put your sweet lips on my lips We should just kiss like real people do [Verse 2] I knew that look, dear: eyes always seeking Was there in someone that dug long ago So I will not ask you why you were creeping In some sad way, I already know [Chorus] So I will not ask you where you came from I would not ask and neither would you Honey, just put your sweet lips on my lips We should just kiss like real people do [Chorus] I could not ask you where you came from I could not ask and neither could you Honey, just put your sweet lips on my lips We could just kiss like real people do

At Last

Originally recorded by: Glenn Miller and His Orchestra feat. Pat Friday & John Payne, 1941
A song originally written in 1941 by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren and originally performed by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra for the 1941 movie Sun Valley Serenade, this ballad found its greatest success in the hands of the late Etta James in this 1960 recording. [Verse 1] At last My love has come along My lonely days are over And life is like a song (Oh, yeah, yeah) [Verse 2] At last The skies above are blue My heart was wrapped up in clover The night I looked at you [Bridge] I found a dream that I could speak to A dream that I can call my own I found a thrill to press my cheek to A thrill that I've never known (Oh, yeah, yeah) [Verse 3] You smiled, you smiled Oh, and then the spell was cast And here we are in heaven For you are mine at last

JEAN - An adorable, kitten-like sneeze escapes his mouth.
YOU - "Hey! Jean sneezes like a girl!"
JEAN - His fist clenches and his mouth curls into a snarl. He snaps at you, like he always does, "How about I pound you like a boy, huh!?"
BREAKROOM - As the words leave his mouth, the room grows silent.
JEAN - He groans, slapping his forehead "That did not come out right."
EMPATHY - He's feeling instant regret.
ESPRIT DE CORPS - He's sincerely glad that Mack and Torso aren't in earshot. They'd have a field day with this one, and you could, too.
REACTION SPEED - You could win this banter battle now, or save this as leverage for later.
EMPATHY - Or you could let this go, and not be an asshole. Besides, the 'heterosexual life partners' running joke is getting very, very old.
HARRY -
1. [Composure: Formidable] Feign ignorance and remain stoic. Tilt your head, saying, "Yea, I didn't really hear the last part. What did you say?"
2. Let yourself laugh at his expense.
3. Ask about his sexuality in a serious tone.
4. Wink and shoot Jean 'The Expression', and accept his offer for a pounding.

Ao3| Part 1| Part 2| Part 3| Part 4| Part 5 (Next Part) | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8| Part 9 | Part 10
Eddie was pretty certain the universe had put Steve Harrington in his life to torture him. There was no other reason they’d taken someone so unfairly attractive and gift wrapped him as a metal head's wet dream.
The last two weeks had been absolute torture, because apparently, Eddie was also now on Steve's radar, and he’d stolen every last brain cell Eddie seemed to carry around. Because Eddie was smooth, he knew he was, he’d had his fair share of hook ups in Indy and he wove stories for a living practically.
But Steve fucking Harrington, who’d shown up the second week of school with added fucking pink highlights to his mohawk that matched Robins, was ruining any street cred Eddie had ever possessed.
“All I’m saying is that man wants to be tied up and forced to beg.” Eddie mused, throwing himself on Gareth's garage couch as the band settled in for a break.
“He’s still on this?” Jeff laughs, leaning his head back onto the couch after he makes himself comfortable on the ground near Eddie's head.
“He’s always on this, Jeff. You thought his crush on Steve was bad before, it reached new heights with Steve's new,” He gestures around in an all encompassing way, “Everything.”
“He wears a hanky now Gareth. And he’s like, our level of weirdness now, I might actually have a chance with this new Steve.” Eddie's voice is muffled by the couch.
“He’s like, peeked our level of weird. Pretty sure he’s claimed the crown of ‘King of Freaks’ at school now.” Mack's voice pipes up as he makes his way back into the garage from the house, 4 cokes in hand. “He told Billy fucking Hargrove to call him Princess if he was feeling frisky. That’s like… That's way beyond ballsy.” Eddie’s face pops off the couch, twisted with confusion.
“Wait, wait, how’d he get my crown? That’s my crown, he had his and he gave it up. That’s just rude.” Not that Eddie really cared about the hierarchy of Hawkins High, but Jesus leave it to Steve to go from one kingdom to the next without blinking an eye.
“Eddie, have you seen the guy? Or heard him talk for that matter. He flirts with everyone. I’m pretty sure he’s given half the school some kind of gay panic, and he’s just completely open about it. Like doesn’t care if the slurs come or someone tries to fucking corner him for being queer. He’s just so far out there and he punched Billy in the face and walked away without a single mark. Sorry man but the crown went from you to him, pretty fucking easily.”
And Jeff had a point, Eddie supposes.
But he wonders if anyone else has seen the other changes about Steve that he’s noticed. The gaggle of middle schoolers he drives to and from school, and even cuts class sometimes to make his way over to the middle school to check on them. The soft way he talks to Robin when she seems to get overwhelmed. The fucking heartbreakingly sad look that's always in his eyes when he thinks no ones looking.
Whatever happened to Steve to cause him to embrace this new side, had really broken him and Eddie was maybe a little worried that Steve was using his new confidence in his new look to stir shit up on purpose and punish himself for something.
Not that Eddie didn’t think Steve was a punk, through and through.
Just Eddie knew a lot of times, when someone stumbles into the punk community the way Steve obviously had, he’d have to of been in rough shape for anyone to look at his old preppy self and trust that he wouldn’t beat the shit outta them if they decided to try and take him under their wing. It was dangerous to trust a jock, or a rich kid with his life handed to him on a silver platter. Because they might be looking to rebel and then when they realized just how much it fucking sucked to actually be an outcast, they’d lash out, hard, before falling back into their old ways. It was usually safer to offer some words of advice and move on when you stumbled upon someone like that.
But Steve was well versed in the Punk of it all, and he was well versed in the Queer of it all if his hanky was anything to go by, and Eddie maybe could have believed he was a baby punk, if Steve didn’t wear that look, that culture, like a second skin, like it was who he was always meant to be.
All of this was just Eddie's long winded way of saying, Steve seemed a little bit haunted, and Eddie wanted to know more about him.
Eddie had always wanted to know more about him.
But god, did he ache for it now.
