Me listening to magp 8: What a fascinating spin on a Lonely statement that asks what if it was the Place that was lonely, so hungry that it desires to quite literally ea- WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCKKKKKK WHAT WHAT WHAT THE FUCKKK WHATTTTTT FUCKING WHAT WHAT COME AGAIN HUH WHAT FUCKING WH
[ID: Cartoony art of people who look comically shocked, terrified, and overwhelmed, with their eyes bugging out and their mouth open, sweating in shock and trembling. End ID]
[Plain text: Multiple variations of "What the fuck" and "come again" written in caps lock. End PT]
[Thank you to @princess-of-purple-prose and @ryutarotakedown for the id's :] I hope it's ok to merge the two!]
Edit: I made this post before finishing the episode, so I find it interesting to note that these episodes also share the parallel of... a certain someone
Happy Gerry!
I love how much fan service we got until now in Protocol. But today's episode has been my favorite in this regards so far!
So, here's how I picture Gerry in The Magnus Protocl! I don't think he'd totally abandon his metalhead persona. Some things are just hardwired to a personality no matter their past experiences. But I think Gerry sounds less edgy in this one. So I made him a bit more... round^^ No dyed hair, no Eye tattos, no black finger nails. Still piercings. Also he has an undercut now. For now a gray muscle shirt, black army trousers and the most important thing! Cute socks!
Also a grandma recliner chair to have a bit of Gee Gee's influence in this!
inside me there are two wolves: one doesn't want to go meta, the other doesn't want to fall for any yummy yummy bait. there's also a third wolf who thinks the actual bait was the meta we did along the way.
the wolf who wins is a fourth one who's carrying 3km of red thread.
Okay, so here's my working theory for The Magnus Protocol as it relates to The Magnus Archives, as of MAGP 8:
Nothing physical came through the Crack, only mental/spiritual/informational/eldritch. Specifically, this included the Fears, our boys and their third wheel (probably because, while his body was dead, his eyeballs were still viable so he wasn't dead dead yet), and everything on the tapes.
This resulted in the Protocol versions of people who were on the tapes acquiring some amount of memories/knowledge of what happened to their Archives selves.
I suspect this to be the whole deal for Celia and Georgie, although I don't have much to go on yet. It seems more likely that Gertrude (and possibly Gerry) might have had Stuff going on prior to this, but, again, unclear as yet.
Gerry definitely seems to have had a better life here and to be genuinely much happier, but I have to wonder whether he knows more than he's saying... and whether he was in Camden when the memories struck.
MAGP 11* : 'The deep will care for his bones' // RC
CAT 3 :
MAGP 1 (Case 2)* : Red Canary // RAB
MAGP 2 : Tattoo // RB
MAGP 4 : Murder Violin // C
MAGP 9 : Murder Dices // RB
MAGP 11* : 'The deep will care for his bones' // RC
MAGP 13 : Murder Crypto // RB
*The Red Canary Case and the 'Deep' Case are labelled as CAT23, so I put them in both CAT 2 and CAT3
Okay ? Okay.
So now I think we can say each category have a thing :
CAT1 is for 'living' manifestations (that used to be human/animal or not)
CAT2 is for specific places (MAGP 3 is a garden and MAGP 5 is the cinema)
CAT3 is for artefacts/non-living manifestations.
About MAGP 1 (Case 2) and MAGP 11, I think they are in both categories because it got to do with both. For Red Canary it was both the Institute and the box he took from there, and for the other it was both the tattoo and the ocean/cliff (unsure if its one or the other).
You could argue that MAGP 5 got more to djo with the movie than the cinema, and I would agree ! However, I think the movie is also part of the cinema, in some way. The whole place was creepy, and if it was only the movie, it could have been done with simply a DVD or something. The fact that it was in a cinema was intentional.
For the ranks, I think it's pretty much self explanatory : RA to RC to categorise the levels of danger.
What is concerning about it however is that :
A) The Institute is ranked AB, which is the highest on this list for now.
B) All 'living' manifestations are ranked B or below, which means that our heroes would be pretty fucked should they encounter a rank A.
C) Some cases (namely, MAGP 3 and 4) are simply labelled 'C' without it being an actual rank. I could pass it off as a typo, but were talking about Jonathan Sims here, folks.
Another theory I have is that the O.I.A.R only handle B-ranked Externals, and eliminate those whose rank is higher. We'll need to verify that once the next External turns up, but until then I'm running with that.
Also, LOVE Episode 8 for bringing back one of my favorite Lonely Statement Things: the "It was a crowd with no people in it." trope. There's bodies and faces and voices but no people. You are surrounded and still so terrifyingly alone
Magp 8 literally has me combing through the transcript. There’s too many details. Gerry??? Other dimensions?? GEE GEE??? Also I’m convinced that “Camden Epiphany” will become plot relevant. Mr. Newall you’ve done it again
decided to look up the names and dates in the citations in MAGP 8. each corresponds to relevant works on brutalism and liminality. doubt there's any theory cracking secrets to be found in them, but here's the links if you're curious anyway
