Normally you’d know that any character that hurts a cat goes on my shitlist to never return, but the Griffin testing the invisibility experiment on one has so many tiny character details that it honestly fascinates me.

The flaw that undermines Griffin the most is that he is practically incapable of parsing simple cause and effect, and that he never manages to think ahead.

When he’s experimenting on the cat and it makes a lot of noise, he doesn’t comprehend that it’s because it’s in pain, because he then immediately uses that process on himself and is shocked at how agonizing it is. He’s no Sydney Atherton out to torture and kill a cat for his own sick amusement, he’s not even Jack Seward insisting that vivisection is necessary because it’s medically useful—he’s just seeing if his process works on a living creature immediately before using it on himself. He didn’t even realize he’d hurt the cat until he was in the throes of agony.

And then a more down-to-earth detail that re-emphasizes this: the cat was hungry, so he gave it some milk. He tried to give it more milk later when it was upset, only to find all his food was gone. Not only does it paint more of the picture of what a stripped-bare life he lived, this unfurnished room stuffed with scientific apparatus and a bed he rarely uses—but how he can’t even piece together “give the cat the last of my food = I now have no food left.”

This contextualizes SO MUCH of his behavior up to this point, both the comical and the grim. Steals from his father without thinking about what his father will do without the money. Commits a burglary and immediately tells his landlady he can pay her now, is surprised when they suspect him of the burglary. Escapes arrest by stripping and then is left starving and naked without shelter. It’s a domino effect that not only chauses chaos and pain wherever he goes, but is a constant source of his own suffering.

exactly! ill never understand brush gatekeeping (other than for certain reasons, like how i wont share brushes that ppl have given me in private bc theyre not mine to share, sometimes ppl wont share them bc they want to sell them etc) or saying it doesnt matter lol.... ppl who do so are always like "um having my brushes wont make u draw exactly like me! 🙄" like yeah, they wont. that's not what anyone expects. but also, if they wont magically make someone draw exactly like you then what exactly is your problem with sharing them lol what are you afraid of !

i've used TONS of brushes from artists who have shared them and i hate most of them because they don't fit my way of working even after editing settings, which is why i know they do matter when you get your hands on brushes that fit your line weight, strokes, style, texture, preferences, etc. if that makes sense....

Ok fuck it you know something I've never really quite understood about part of the Leftist vs Liberals debate on voting.

So so so many people act like its either-or. Like you're either dedicating your entire life to voting and promoting politicians and phone banking or whatever, or you're a True Rebel waiting for The Uprising to Come and Solve Everything.

But like. In my experience. Me voting is just me kinda go 'which person seems kinda good? Which one at least sucks the least? ok lemme go vote.' and then its anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour tops of my life. And I still have plenty of time to do Stuff and participate in Conversations about Other Important Things. And also you can admit and acknowledge and understand that the system As Is kinda sorta really sucks ass, but also still admit and acknowledge and understand that at this current point in time we are still living in the suckass system and do something to alleviate the suckass At Least A Little while also working to bolster/create/advocate for Other Systems.

I guess just like. it's not a black or white thing. Between 'top 500 volunteers for a specific politician/voting office/etc' and 'absolutely positively not voting at all' there is a gray area called 'vote and then just do other stuff'.

okay wait. wait. kageyama went to the little kids' volleyball class without knowing WHY. he got home all torn up after fighting with hinata and saw the flyer and decided to go!! but even HE didn't know what he was doing there!! he just went with seemingly no purpose and no clear reason that we could discern after a series of events that left him raw and aching and vulnerable all over!! and the flyer was a weird thing for him to get in the first place!! kageyama, at that point in time, wouldn't have willingly signed himself up to teach little kids!!

so you know what i think? i think the flyer was meant for KAZUYO. i think it was meant for kazuyo because kazuyo was the kind of person so full of love and warmth and kindness that would have made him a GREAT teacher. i think kazuyo probably DID teach that class a few times, and kageyama was there for it. i think kageyama saw that flyer and remembered a time when he felt safe and steady and sure of himself, remembered a time when there was a hand for him to hold, and, not knowing what to do with his hands now, went to the class to see if it would help. to see if he could retrace the person he used to be, and use that to figure out what the hell is he even doing, picking fights and accusing hinata of being selfish when for so long he's been the one they call a tyrant.

i think what kageyama was looking for was a reminder that he could be "someone even better", and who was he if he couldn't find it in all the places he was loved and loved in return?

Just this cynical, miserable doctor who’s a genius at what he does and does not do it out of care for people or for the betterment of the world or whatever the fuck. he simply loves a problem to solve. patients are his perfect little inanimate puzzles. they might as well be dolls. no more real than the fake names on an exam question.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how regulus could be mistaken for a generally empathetic person (which he like is but also definitely isn’t), simply because of how much effort he puts into knowing people. it’s not that he wants to understand those around him and how they feel. it’s a compulsory need. a need to formulate some sort of prescription for the world at large, to understand why people do what they do like a game, an algorithm. and that’s very similar to House to me. although I haven’t watched the show in yrs.

and so he’s saved so many lives and it’s not at all out of the goodness of his heart.

My friend once told me abt tuberculosis and how it has had such a heavy influence on history that persists to this day. like there are randoms aspects of our present society that you would think “well this surely is not an indirect consequence of the widespread disease once known as Consumption” and then it IS. and Im a little obsessed with this idea of a Dr. Regulus Black who has this hyperfixation on disease and plague. he’s got this cynical worldview regarding how we are all shaped by disease, how we don’t need the pathogen itself to invade our body for it to still live in us, in all of us. we are diseased and we are doomed and love is just a meaningless chemical, love is an evolutionary response and my parents just didn’t get enough of those chemicals for whoever reason but it doesn’t matter because I don’t need love to survive.

and then enter cardiologist James (Wilson or whatever) who has the opposite outlook and loves too much and gets too attached to patients and allows Regulus to be soft meanwhile Regulus allows James to be mean or selfish or whatever in a way he doesn’t really get to be around anyone else.

also enter estranged Sirius who knows regulus doesn’t wanna see him but Remus is dying and no doctors can figure out why and this is his last hope.

You probably get this asked a lot but do you have any particular things you keep in mind when writing in your journal? I started recently and it's been great but I find that Only recapping my day gets to be a bit tedious (esp when I don't go outside much lol) so I was curious what you do to keep motivated with it ! Ur sticker layouts are always so cutes btw I'm very inspired by them ^_^💖

Yeah! I mainly journal for Memory Keeping as i have a weird obsession with wanting to keep track of anything/everything, so i just think of what future cheye would want to know, instead of just recapping day.

Makes me really sad bc in college all i had energy to write was like "ate x went to class went to mailroom went to class 2 had x for dinner 1 am now goodnight" and its like. What about. The whole rest of it!! What did u do who did you talk to when was it that you saw a raccoon irl for the first time!!! Were you stressing over assignments?? Which and why!!! I have 0 tangible, meaningful, memories of what happened now. Just sterile clinical ones. :(

I do track things consistently like my rating for the day, the time i woke up and the time i go to bed, what i ate, if i cried, along wit other personal stats (i like the numbers!). Sometimes I also dont Do anything in a day so i just focus on other things, like taking the opportunity to write about feelings a little bit, so future cheye Knows the state of mind i was in on a given day, or maybe talk about how I bought something and am excited to wear/use it

Not much happened today so I wrote about and included how my dad described the plot of to, and showed me, some scenes of The Untouchables 1987 today because a song always reminds him of that movie...

yesterday I wrote about how my sister and I are planning on trying some pillsbury cocoa rolls on thursday, since we couldn't today, and that I am Excited.

I don't know, its small things that I feel I'd appreciate in the future even if they seem silly or pointless right now...(and also good for keeping track of personal growth, as Im hoping I at one point get to pinpoint where my complaints about Not Wanting to Drive fade away from the entries.
