so. when i get back from my trip to japan, i want to apply to adop a cat (just/ any cat) and if the cat comes with a name that it knows, that's fine but on the off chance i get to name it, i don't kknow what i'd name it. if this wasn't a family cat, i would want to name it Loci (low-kai) but the problem is. No one else would want me to name it Loci and it would get too confusing since Loki (low-key) is a very popular cat name and I want nothing to do with m*rvel since most people know that as a fictional character and not really as a norse god so yes. problems abound. and also i need to think about nicknames because I did not think about nicknames for Buster which resulted in. an unfortunate one for him: Bussy.

ALRIGHT I GOT APPROXIMATELY FOUR NOTES ON MY MITSUKOU AU POST SO MAJORAM INK MADNESS IT IS
Starting with Kou because he's my favoritest child !!!
Tumblr media
Minamoto Kou comes from a shattered small town full of mysteries that him and his friends know much too intimately. A little while ago-- he'll tell you a year or two, but it's been about six now, he picked up the pieces of his humanity and ran away with the only two people that wanted to live and not survive.
He's quit most of the tendencies he had as an exorcist, but he wanders around the dark in this city from time to time, if only to prevent rumors from infecting his new home like they had his old one. Still looking for something to protect, with a little less pressure, a few less lives on the line, Kou took up gardening, and started a small shop. He owns Mallow and Majoram, or 'strength through the worst and happiness', with Aoi and Nene, most commonly seen around shop and at the register.
Kou is tentatively still trying to 'earn' the life he's living here, and keep in touch with his family from the life he had, who never quite understood. But he's a proud and resillient boy, and he has his friends. He's not looking for anybody else, really. But when a pretty boy walks out of a shop just across from his, he's not one to complain..
....
An older kind of ref for him but ohhh well I'm too lazy to redo it. Lichtenburg (lightning) scars sort of look like ferns or other leafy plants so I thought they made a lot of sense and fit his character design!!! Very slowly gonna post everyone's references and origins before I really get into anything else about the au. Designs will include tons of headcanons like Kou's premature crows feet and moles and burn scars yippee yahoo!!

Some of Lena's Handmade Spells
Going with the Flow: Happiness Spell (Attempt 4)
Majoram for Luck and Happiness.
Masterwort (Hog Fennel) mixed with Yarrow for Courage
Huckleberry crushed with Wintergreen for Hex-breaking
Lavender for Peace and Harmony
Crush all of the above and mix. If not pregnant nor have dermatitis, boil the above and strain. Bathe in the resulting tea or drink (Note to self: experiments did not determine which method improves spell. Perhaps more data points are needed? Four tries seems far too small a sample.). If pregnant and/or have dermatitis either avoid Yarrow or mix into a satchel to wear (Note to self: does satchel wearing actually work? What is the best way to test this hypothesis?)
Recite in language appropriate for magic:
"Release all burdens and negativity. Alleviate all pain and anxiety. Break all hexes that sunder. Restore one's youthful wonder. Amplify all joy and peace. After one day, the spell will cease."
(Note to self: translate into Irish or Latin? Why is Latin used for magic when my people come from an Irish heritage and Rome was a colonizer? Didn't pagan magic exist prior to the existence of Latin? More Research is needed.)
Necessary disclaimer: Kara and anyone reading this, please tread carefully with yarrow as it can impact dermatitis and shouldn't be used if pregnant. (Seriously, Kara, don't you dare touch my herb and berry supply again. I am not liable for your ridiculous prank teas. I'm watching you.)
Note to Lena: I only did the prank teas twice! And in my defense, I had no idea that herb caused diarrhea! You don't really label them with warnings. What if I helped by adding a disclaimer to all your labels to mark which ones are safe to ingest and/or drink?
Note to Kara: If it keeps you busy, then fine, but my notes are specifically for humans since I am a human. I do not have the data to determine what is safe for you to ingest.
Note to Lena: I'm pretty impervious and invulnerable to most things and have an iron stomach. I can even handle poisons that you definitely can't.
Note to Kara: Are you serious?? Did you ingest POISONS?? Please don't do that. I don't care how invulnerable you are. I'd like to not tempt fate. My heart simply cannot take that. Also, these notes defeat the purpose of the spell. I'm trying to restore my youthful wonder and joy and not faint from worry by you testing whether you can poison yourself with my herbs. Thanks.
Note to Lena: That's valid. I'll stop tempting fate.
Results:
Spent one day in a state of joy and wonder. Everything I did felt like I was trying it new, and it brought such happiness. I felt no anxiety or fear the entire twenty-three hours and forty-eight minutes. I discovered, however, that I was incapable of long-term planning. It seems the youthful wonder translated into being caught in the present moment, where I went with the flow. I also discovered a deep eagerness to share my joy with anyone within my vicinity.
Physical affection came much easier and without fear or anxiety or worries about people's perceptions of me. I was able to express my emotions freely in a way I've never done before, which was very mind-opening. Perhaps I need to discern ways to express my emotions more readily in safe settings without magic?
Perhaps an adjustment to spell to allow for planning?
Breaking the Hex of the Luthor Name (Attempt 2)
Note to self: This is probably nonsense. It's not like I can magic away people's memories of how awful and abusive my family was. But maybe I can somehow break any hexes placed on the name that somehow impact me unknowingly? This is my second attempt as I accidentally exploded the mixture the first time. I am unsure as to how that happened. If it happens again, then will adjust ingredients.
Vertivert
Huckleberry
Wintergreen
Shred the above herbs and pound them into a mixture. Burn the mixture and recite the following:
Break all hexes upon the Luthor Name. Sunder all evil eyes upon the Luthor Name. Exorcise all evil cast upon the Luthor Name.
Note to Self: This mixture did not explode! I adjusted the verbiage and verified the pronunciation of all translations into Irish. Latin caused the explosion the first time, and I believe it is because it is a dead language and I cannot locate proper pronunciation guides. Irish is not a dead language and pronunciation guides exist. Irish has also worked well with prior spells I've attempted so why not this one? Also, side note, that spell made me feel a lot lighter and less burdened. Is that wishful thinking on my part or did the spell actually work?
Results:
Four days and twenty minutes since I cast this spell: Donations to my foundation have increased by 120% starting within eight hours of casting my spell. Is this a correlation or causation?
Two months, three days, and sixteen hours since I cast this spell: Donations increased by 202% since last entry in this results column. We've been able to fund so many green energy projects and a ton of medical research! Surely these increases in donations wasn't all due to the spell? Had there been so much hexes on my last name that it impacted my ability to make headway with the foundation? I'm not sure what to think if so. I also am unsure how I would even discern the truth of this or test it in a way that proved causation.
Note from Kara: Lena!!! I totally think this is the spell that broke your stream of bad luck. You probably needed a good hex breaking. I'm so glad you did it!
Note to Kara: Avoid writing in my grimorie -- But Lena, you need outside perspective too for your experiments! I can totally help! -- and stop pouting when I steal my pen back to finish my notes. I will not fall for it. No matter how adorable you look.
Note to Self: Perhaps purchase separate notebook so Kara can write up her reflections on the results of my magic experiments. See if this alleviates her tendency to write in my grimorie.
To Be continued... May write more eventually.

Žlikrofi recipe
For all the international baby boos that want to try and make them <3
(I am not responsible for the successes or failures of your žlikrofi attempts)
So, I made them today, after a very long time. Got some useful pics for illustration, especially on how to make the shape. Used this recipe, so you'll get an adapted translation of it.
For the dough:
300 grams of flour
2-3 eggs
oil
salt
water/milk
Mix the salt, flour and eggs to make the dough. I usually mix the flour and salt in a bowl, before creating a little dip in the center in which I then mix the eggs with a fork, gradually adding flour. If you find it a bit too dry, add some water. You should be left with dough that is slightly softer than that for pasta. Cover it with oil and let it rest, preferably in the fridge, while you make the filling.
The filling:
500 grams of potatoes
50 grams of pig lard
one onion
spices (salt, pepper, chives and majoram)
Boil the potatoes whole without peeling them (about 30 minutes). Once done, peel them and mash them. As it cools, saute your onions on the pig lard, until it softens. Add the lard and onions to the potatoes and mix. Cut in chives and add other spices.
Roll the potato fill into balls roughly the size of hazelnuts. This will take a while, so I recommend you listen to the entire Joker Out discography while you do it (also when you are making the actual žlikrofi themselves).
Once your balls are prepared, roll out your dough to a thickness of about 2mm (I literally use a pasta machine for this). Now comes the shaping!
Place your balls on the dough, so there is a 1 finger distance between them, like so:
Tumblr media
Then place the dough over the balls and press down on the spaces between them (the recipe called for me to put some eggwash between the balls as well, but they close without it too). Also cut off any excess dough, your žlikrofi should be of a square shape:
Tumblr media
Cut on the dips and place your žlikrof, so the seam is facing down. Gently press on the top, to create its typical shape:
Tumblr media
This process will take a while, I managed to listen to Joker Out's entire discography while making them. But they look very pretty they turned out :3.
Tumblr media
To cook them, throw them in some boiling water and cook for about five minutes, or until they come back to the top. Usually, they're eaten with goulash, but you can put pretty much any sauce over them and they will pop.
So go on now, make Bojan, or whoever said that you should try them proud!

Working the Grimorium Verum (P1)
A few weeks ago I decided that I was going to start working the Grimorium Verum. I read and reread and rereread the Grimoire and as much supplemental material as I could get my hands on (I'm referring to all of JsK's pdf books by Hadean Press and that one conjure codex entry by Al Cumins).
Goal/Intent
With that said my primary goal right now is to work towards creating a clay skull, created to the specs Jsk outlined in his notes on the Grimoire in his edition of the book. It is essentially reworking the invisibility spell of the second part into a spell that binds a spirit to the skull. Rather, in his words, "I strongly recommend making a crossroads the place of interment in a reconstruction of this rite using seven coins. The intention of this adaptation would be to make a magical head as a central feature of work with these spirits, a natural extension of the underlying symbolism," (The True Grimoire 160). The only change I am doing to what JsK states is that I am adding grave dirt to the clay for the skull.
The Work I've done thus far
Wednesday, 8/16/23, I began working to get the consecrating the materials necessary for the work. I started the second hour of Mercury at my local graveyard in my town. I asked the spirits of the graveyard to lead me to the grave most suited for my work. I was expecting to be led to a town founder or someone who died violently, rather they sent me to the grave of an old lady who died a hundred years ago on my birthday. This was not intentional on my end. I saw the grave from behind and I felt as though I was being pushed towards it and that it was the right choice for the work. I took the dirt left a coin and promised to pray for her for the next three nights.
I then got home as fast as possible so I could have the second half to craft and consecrate the Asperger and Aspergillus. For the Asperger, I used a black ceramic bowl that I painted the appropriate god names on. For the aspergillus, I took the three herbs, rosemary, (pepper)mint, and oregano (technically you are supposed to use Majoram, but I could not find any in my area and I plan to get the proper plant in the future, but for now both are closely related and I don't think it will do much harm to my work). I consecrated them according to the method in the Third part of the grimoire. Reciting the 7 penitential psalms took long than I thought it would.
Thursday, 8/17/23, in the second hour of Jupiter I engraved a spoon and a knife with Heramael's name and seal. The intention is based out of Goetic Pharamakos, by Jsk where they are used to collect plants in nature for me to work with, such as the branches for the wands. In the 1 night hour of Jupiter I consecrated the two items, however, I slightly adapted the consecration from Jsk's book on Eleogap so that it was to be a general consecration instead of an asperger and aspergillus consecration. The difference between it and the Grimoire's consecration is that it is Thelemic and instead of the psalms it uses chapters 3 and 5 from Liber LXV, which I thought would mean it would be shorter, well it was in the sense that for all things that after you waft the tools of the censer, you are supposed to recite the 7 psalms and psalm 71 and 116, so 21 psalms in total. Personally, I think there is a point where the more you recite over a ritual object the less of an effect it has on it. I could be wrong. Anyhow, below are pictures of the spoon and knife before I consecrated them.
Tumblr media
If you have read this far. I thank you and apologize for the length and potential boringness of this blog post. My goal is to generate interest in the grimoire that is less about conjuring all the spirits in it and more about creating spirit relationships. As well as to document my progress and create discussion.

I'm trying lacto fermentation for the first time! I'm trying various combinations of turnip, swede and carrot, with peppercorns, parsley, majoram, chilli flakes. Can't wait to see what happens...
[Image ID: Five recycled jars filled with different pickling vegetables. There's sliced swede in three jars, one jar with cubed turnip and one jar with batons of carrots. Some peppercorns and herbs can be seen in the bottom of the jars.]

I wish I could ask a question of someone who has a cooking blog. A few months ago, I had Turkish style kahvalti at a Lebanese restaurant and I think it's one of the top 10 meals I've had. One of the things that was served was a small bowl of very coarsely ground spice mix used as a dip, listed as za'atar on the menu (that was not red in color). It was so good I want to eat it with everything all the time. I've been unable to find anything similar since! I've tried other za'atar mixes in my search, and in comparison they taste almost dusty, too finely ground, or somehow don't seem quite as fragrant, or just have a different flavor profile, and I can't quite put my finger on why exactly. I want to try to recreate it, but I'm not sure where to start - I'm assuming these recipes are like the ones from my own culture, where your grandma tells you to just add as much of each ingredient as feels right, and between that and regional variations... I wish I knew of a cooking blog where I could ask for tips on where to start! It seems like quite an undertaking, but I'd so welcome having an idea of where to look or just a starting off point... It's too bad I don't know of any good cooking blogs with recipes that consistently lead to delicious food, though.
Someone with a cooking blog might say that za'atar may refer either to a group of herbs (namely, any of several species of wild thyme), a condiment made by grinding any of said fresh herbs with toasted sesame, salt, and maybe sumac, or a spice blend made with dried herbs and ground spices. The spice blend known as za'atar does vary significantly based on region.
If the za'atar mixes you tried were storebought, they perhaps taste 'dusty' or not fragrant because they were ground a while ago--spices lose fragrance more quickly once they're ground. If the za'atar you tried was actually a herb dip and not a spice blend (were the herbs dried or fresh? was the mixture wet?), then that could also explain why you're experiencing a mixture of dried herbs and spices as "dusty" in comparison. Either way, I'd recommend trying to make something yourself. You'll have better luck figuring out how to recreate what you ate if you have a good palette, but even if you're not confident that you could immediately identify e.g. caraway in a spice blend, you can narrow down your search a little bit:
If the za'atar you had wasn't red, you'll want to stay away from recipes (mostly Lebanese ones) that call for a lot of sumac.
Try to look specifically for recipes from people who identify themselves as Turkish or of Turkish descent.
A search for za'atar specifically as part of a kahvalti led me to this recipe for kahvalti; the same blog contains this recipe for za'atar. It involves massaging olive oil into dried herbs and ground spices, so blends not including this step may have caused them to seem "dusty" to you?
I recommend using whole spices and briefly toasting them before grinding them--this will improve their fragrance a lot.
I'm not sure where you live or if this restaurant would be likely to be importing their herbs, but if you don't have access to Turkish wild thyme, a blend of thyme, majoram, and oregano might be worth experimenting with (since several of these wild thyme varieties are really closely related to majoram and oregano).
I don't know why, but the more specific and less 'Westernized' or generic you want a recipe to be, the more likely you are to find it on YouTube rather than a written blog. Search "وصفة الزعتر التركي" on YouTube and watch what they do!
It's too bad I don't know anyone with a cooking blog, though. I guess you'll just have to keep looking around at random.
