Social Makeup Study - Hateno Village (HFS, TotK)

Village Structure

Leadership system: Eldership and a monarchy-like structure both appear to be used at once. An electoral system has become popular with some citizens, and Hyrule's monarchy has begun to restore itself, both further complicating the matter. Traditionally, Hateno used an eldership system exclusively, but Hyrule's sudden destruction 100 years ago brought elements of a monarchy (primarily that there is one leader who inherits the position).

Leader/Ruler: Reede Imperial (leader/mayor, under dispute), Link Hyrule (elder, under dispute, King of Hyrule)

Economy: As a former land of exile, Hateno is traditionally non-exporting. However, the village became known for agriculture and dye production after the Age of Burning Fields. Recently, the village has become a hub for textiles such as clothing and hats. The past century has brought significant changes in this area, which has also brought unease.

Demographics: Historically was 100% Pedigreed Wolfbred, although the modern village has a makeup of approximately 50% Wolfbred/Wolfbred Hybrid and 50% Hylian. This shift was also brought about in the last 100 years.

Beliefs and Afterlife: A Hylia-worshipping village. Wolfbred mythology depicts them having been created by the Twilight's interaction with their ancestor and believe that the Twilight became heritable through his line. Although the Twilight Realm is not an afterlife realm (nor was it intended to be), the Wolfbred still believe their ghosts will be returned to the Realm when their bodies fail because of their own Twilight, and believe that Midna created the Celaeno Orientalis constellation (a wolf-like constellation that appears over Hateno) as a replacement for the Mirror of Twilight to help their souls return "home". Due to the Mirror of Twilight's destruction, there is no way to confirm or deny this belief; however, it appears to have been reinforced by Link's successful command of both Wolfbred-like spirits and Hylia's Honor Guard (souls of past heroes) in battle.

Citizens

Link (Imperial) Hyrule: The last documented male Wolfbred, and the last Wolfbred born under exile. For this reason, he’s referred to as the last “Pedigreed Wolfbred”.  Champion of Hyrule/Hylians, despite not technically being Hylian, and beloved mate of Princess Zelda. Died during the Great Calamity, but not before becoming King of Hyrule. The first Wolfbred King since Kakku. Cause of death: fatal battle wounds. He was resurrected 100 years after his death, and reigns over Hyrule today with his beloved. The Sheikah crowned him King Sovereign before Calamity Ganon was sealed for good, as the throne would pass to whichever of King Rhoam's heirs/relatives was found alive first. Called "Grandpa" (sometimes written "Grandpaw") by his extended family. Has developed blindness in one eye as well as joint pain, two common signs of a Wolfbred's aging, and is technically retired from all soldiering.

Zelda (Esmerelda) Hyrule: The first Hylian to marry into the tribe in 10,000 years due to the exile, and mother of Hyrule's first (chronologically-speaking) Wolfbred-Hylian hybrid: Zelda Ivee. Said to be the only true Hylian who could speak the Wolfbred tongue fluently before the Calamity. The Sheikah's crowning of Link restarted the Kingdom of Hyrule, so this Princess hasn't seen a need to rush her ascension to the Queen's throne. Her temper was found to be of Wolfbred descent, as she is Karu’s descendant. A beloved teacher at the newly build Hateno Schoolhouse.

Zelda Ivee Hyrule: King Link and Princess Zelda’s beloved little girl and the new Princess Zelda. She is the first Wolfbred hybrid since her distant ancestor Karu, and her soul is over a century old despite her age of five. Her upbringing will likely shape the future of Hyrule, as her parents come from such different backgrounds. Current studies regarding her aim to identify whatever might trigger the aggressive tendencies her family tree is infamous for, so her exposure to such triggers can be limited. 

Reede Imperial: Leader of Hateno Village and descendant of Sydnei (Link's sister). He retains a strong desire to stay in tune with his heritage and prides himself on keeping Hateno just the way it was during the exile: a safe haven for the Wolfbred. He inherited the antagonistic tendencies of his family. Although he is generally a very peaceful, vegetable-loving man, he has recently begun to display aggressive behavior, and has gotten in a few fights. (Now that the villagers think about it, so has Link.)

Clavia Imperial: Reede's wife and the mother of Karin. Clavia is Hylian, but has been accepted into the Clan as if she was Wolfbred. While her daughter is in school, she spends time at Link and Zelda's, often helping tidy the place so the half-blind Link can keep his last good eye on his pup. Besides, she believes it does Link good to have someone other than Zelda to talk to.

Karin Imperial: Reede and Clavia's daughter, and a pupil of Zelda's. Currently, Karin is not affected by her family's tendencies. Purah aims to prevent exposing both her and Zelda Ivee to whatever causes those tendencies to develop. Although, considering how riled up their fathers have suddenly gotten, Purah and her fellow researchers may have to work fast to identify the cause and isolate it from the girls.

Sophie and Cece: A pair of Wolfbred-Hylian sisters. Cece is eldest. Their existence greatly influences modern Wolfbred-Hylian relations as Sophie is considered legally Wolfbred, while Cece is the first hybrid to not be legally Wolfbred, at least within the village. Surprisingly, Sophie is the more docile of the two. Cece recently moved back in after traveling the world to study fashion. Village opinions are mixed. Link and Sophie are friends. Link and Cece are not.

Ivee: Daughter of the family who runs East Wind General Store. It's rumored that she was actually named after Zelda Ivee, as Hateno thought she'd been killed in-utero during the Great Calamity.

Pruce, Amira and Azu: Family of Ivee, runs East Wind. Ancestor was a dear friend of Ordon, which strengthens the rumors about the origins of Ivee's name. Father, mother and younger brother, respectively. Azu has taken fondly to "protecting" the village, a tendency that often develops in Wolfbred males as they approach and reach puberty.

Tamana: A former Cucco rancher, and Teebo's mother.

Teebo: A very polite Wolfbred pup and Tamana's son. Has shown an immense interest in weapons and the warrior arts since he was very young, and now fills a slot on the day-shift Hateno guard. His apparently innate interest in warrior arts and protection have brought him and Link into a mentor-mentee relationship.

Medda: A tomato-raising farmer, and Aster's father. His wife passed many years ago, but he and his daughter seem to be doing well.

Aster: Medda's daughter. Loves tomatos and froggies, and recently moved next door to Link and Zelda.

Dantz, Koyin: A family of Wolfbred who live outside the town on a farm in the forest, completely devoted to the ways of their ancestors. Father and daughter, respectively.

Sayge, Senna and Sefaro: Family running the Kochi Dye Shop. Sayge and Senna are devoted artisans, who are thriving with Hateno's new textile based market. Sefaro, however, is a much more studious soul who prefers to read history books at the schoolhouse. He's tried to badger Link into teaching him more sensitive history like the Great Calamity, Wolfbred Exile and Sheikah Fallout; currently to little-to-no avail. Perhaps when the little historian is older... or when other tensions in the village smooth over....

Prima: Said to be the prettiest Wolfbred after Midna Marie. May be related to Linky due to the strong facial resemblance to his mother, but is clearly not of the Imperial family.

Worten: Prima's husband. A Wolfbred-Hylian hybrid like his wife, which was seen as a milestone for the species (as hybrids had become distant enough to interbreed again)

Uma: An elderly Wolfbred-Hylian. One of the first hybrids to be born, and has lived since the Age of Burning Fields. Full of knowledge about the village and its history, with a priceless ability to see multiple perspectives for almost any conflict in the village. She usually attempts to soothe Link and Reede when they are riled, often with more success than their wives.

More jelaous Malleus headcanons? 👀

I do love jealous Malleus~

I think Malleus' default state is at least mild jealousy, since there's always a chance, no matter how small, that Rollo might end up liking someone else better. He has to be insecure--he's not used to dealing with people who have no obligation to him. Their relationship is difficult no matter what because one is human and the other is fae. Plus there's the idea of, like, what if he decides he'd rather be with a woman?

Malleus is 100% focused on Rollo, but Rollo does notice attractive people. He doesn't go awooga or anything, but he'll eye somebody and, if Malleus notices, he'll do some PDA to get Rollo's attention back on him while simultaneously showing others that they're together. If a twisted Esmerelda, male or female, popped up, it would not be good. Rollo wouldn't make a move on them or anything if he's already in a relationship, but he would notice and maybe look a little too long. If this was prior to any relationship, but Malleus is trying to woo Rollo... yeah it could be a disaster. Especially if Esmerelda thought flustering Rollo was funny.

If an Esmerelda teased Rollo without knowing he's in a relationship with Malleus... well, they wouldn't do that a second time. Imagine flirting with someone for funsies and the sky just going dark. Thunder crashes, lightning briefly illuminates the area, the interval between too small--it must have hit something nearby. A man with fucking horns stalks up, fury in his eyes, and pulls the flustered nerd away. He then pins the nerd against a wall and ravishes him. But not in a "wow I love you, you're so hot" sort of way, but with a "how dare you look at someone else, you belong to me" vibe. I'd stay far the hell away from that guy.

Prerelationship, any jealousy would be a little cuter or at least gentler. He'd give Rollo an extra egg tart or insist on going to see the gargoyles with him. "I'm busy, just go by yourself." "You will accompany me." "I'm busy." "🥺 You will accompany me..." and wear him down until he gives in.

Deep down, Rollo enjoys the intensity of the attention, but it does come with problems. Malleus can more or less do what he wants, after all... better not to tempt fate.

There's an urge for Malleus to mark Rollo as his. Fucking him in front of someone else would be hugely satisfying, but at the same time, it would mean allowing them to see Rollo in ecstasy which is unacceptable. Quite the conundrum. If he did that, it would more likely be a statement to Rollo. "You're mine, everyone knows you're mine."

But an isolated Rollo is best. When no one else can look at Rollo, and Rollo can't look at anyone else, then he's about as Malleus' as he can get.

Side note, but I almost put in Rollo sleeping around the fae castle in Dyed Dark as Night to piss Malleus off. But... that could have sabotaged his plan, so I didn't. If he caught Rollo cheating on him, it would lockdown time, no mercy. He'd hold that grudge forever.

I've decided to do an abridged story of Peppino Hekekia, scientist, immortal mage, and creator of the "Sixam Science Baby" insemination technique.

I wasn’t taking ANY photos back then, so I did a quick recreation for this story.

I met Peppino around 2018. He was the 5th heir in my “hop around the family tree” legacy. He was the grandson of G2s daughter, but prior to that I had been playing with G2s brothers' family and didn’t know he existed.

He showed up at his grandfather Candor’s wedding to my simself. Those 2 had been flirting on and off for centuries but MCCC kept marrying her off before I could get them together.

I couldn’t pass up that blue mohawk, so I scooped him up to be my next heir and sent him off to Britechester to study Physics.

He loved music and busked with his guitar to pay his tuition.

He met his husband Troy on a blind date.

When he graduated, he and Troy got married and moved to Mt. Komorebi. He started working as a scientist at the lab, Troy was a police officer.

When I decided to start a new save and a new legacy, I moved him and his entire family to my new template save.

He originally met Willow, my G1 heir, at the lab. They were co-workers.

He showed up the 2nd time in G6,  as the leader of the magic club for teens that Jasper found after they ran away from home. I briefly outline there the true story of how he became a mage, gained immortality, and saved his daughter Esmerelda from death.

In G7 he once again taught my young mages the craft, and eventually helped his former students, my G7 heir Steven and his wife Gabby, start their family

After Steven’s book, Paternity Tale, became a bestseller, Peppino's services as a male insemination expert became widely sought after.

He started a clinic helping other men who wanted to give birth, including Steven’s son Peachy and his husband Jack.

Peppino remains a good friend of the family, though Luigi does not anticipate needing his magic or fertility services for himself.

Backstory

He was born and raised in Devildom. His parents were never in the picture, and he doesn't have any other family, so he was raised by the inhabitants of a quiet neighborhood. He views the adults as family and refers to them as his uncles/aunts/entles*.

*Entle is one of several terms used for the non-binary version of aunt/uncle, for those who don't know. I didn't either, I found it on Google lol.

He met Satan when the demon brothers were cast down to Devildom. They became pretty good friends over the years and always met at night in a cemetery. The demon brothers don't know about Apollyon simply because Satan never felt the need to tell them about him. Satan did mention his brothers to Apollyon in various conversations, though.

Personality

Before death: Apollyon is rather two faced. To most, he's very shy and quiet, not one to make eye contact often and is frightened quite easily. But those unfortunate enough to end up on his bad side quickly see how he really is. His normal nervous demeanor changes to highly intelligent, manipulative, and sadistic. He's always at least three steps ahead and is very cautious.

After death: Due to the injuries sustained at his death, he has temporary amnesia and short term memory loss. His personality now is quite similar to the facade he put on earlier: shy and quiet.

Additional Information:

> After he died, he found that he was unable to shift to his demon form, thus making him conclude that he no longer had it.

> Some of his notable "relatives" are his Aunt Esmerelda (referred to by him as Aunt Esme), Esme's son Dalten, and his Uncle Rapier. Esme was the one who kept him well fed, and Apollyon would always sleep over at Rapier's house since he had a spare room. Dalten views Apollyon as an older brother, going as far as referring to him as 'My brother Apollyon' or 'big brother'.

> Esme made Apollyon cards to give to people in case he gets lost or confused when not around someone he knows:

> Due to the violent nature of his death, Apollyon has many scars all along his torso, arms, and face. He doesn't mind showing them to people, though. When in his zombie form, his injuries appear to worsen, but he doesn't rot or lose limbs.

> He's cold to the touch and he doesn't feel pain from more minor injuries, such as a scratch or bruise, but he still feels more serious injuries like being stabbed. His heart, lungs, and other vital organs don't work, and he doesn't need any form of sustenance or sleep.

So 20'000 Leagues Under the Sea is my favorite Disney film(Only competition might be Who Framed Roger Rabbit ).With great effects,set pieces,an interesting premise being a prision escape movie combined with sea adventure and science fiction,a fascinating villain and four amazing performances at the center with James Mason, Kirk Douglas . Peter Lorre and Paul Lukas ....But I am not talking about the movie ,I am talking about the comic version...Which is prett darn good ,despite wonkyness

The wonkyness is in the art ,not that it looks bad but....None of the characters look like the actors. Ned kind of looks like Kirk Douglas ,but Arronoux looks like a Victorian mystery reject , Captain Nemo looks like Walter Pidgeon as a supervillain (Complete with a big N on his chest ) and Consiell looks less like Peter Lorre and more like Jude Laws Watson (Thanks @goodanswerfoxmonster)

However for 54 the art itself is good,it captures many of the setpieces well .I also think it isa good adaptation.Stuff is cut ,Mainly most of the comedic scenes involving Ned Land and his bonding with Esmerelda the Seal,who is male here,never named .....And kind of blows up at the end.Also Nemos First Mate is cut so you dont get the fight between him and Ned Land . There are some changes.The big ones that stood out to me is that instead of Vulcania ,Nemos island is just called N and slight dialogue changes,the biggest being more emphasis on Nemos dead family(Changing the big speach about not considering murdering sailors murder ,from disgust at mass death this unamed country has caused,to just being about his family .Other then that its pretty close to the movie.I expected it to have the set pieces (Nemo rescuing Ned from the Shark ,The cannibal attack ,the finale on Nemos island and of course the squid fight .though that scene works better on film then in comic ) but it also had scenes I didnt expect like the weird dinner scene,Nemo lamenting his dead family and honestly most of the scenes and dialogue while changed are fairly close to the film .The purpose of comic adaptions of films initially was a substitute for home video,if you wanted to re experience a film you liked again you had to get a novelization ,listen to a radio adaptaion or in this case get a comic.And as a comic version goes,it nails most of the thematic and emotional beats of the story ,far better then I expected it to

OH fun thing ,the comic has a few promotional stills from the movie ....And when they were making the film they actuallly filmed two diffrent versions of the squid fight ,and the still in this is of the first clunky looking squid unused in the final film

1-How well the visuals of the movie translate to the comic?

Other then the Natilus the comic doesnt really try to copy the film.Some scenes dont work , the Squid fight feels underwhelming ,but the Rorapindi scene and the Nautilus attacks are pretty good

2- Does the comic has scenes that the movie didn't have?

All the new stuff I noticed :We see aboard the first ship that is attacked by the Nautilus ,we see Ned Land bring up Arronauxs gear onto their ship ,Ned trie to harpoon the Nataulus ,Ned brings Conciel and Arronaux aboard his long boat BEFORE they reach the Nautilus,Esmerelda the sea lion is how Nemo finds out about the heroes being aboard the Nautilus ,Arronaux sees one of the prisioners die on Rorapindi , Consiel finds a picture of Nemos wife and son ,a ship attacks while after they escape the cannibals , and a scene where we see deep sea creatures (That was actually going to be an animated sequence that didnt make the film ), those are all the strictly new stuff

3- Can the comic be judged as a work of art and adaptation of the novel on its own right, or primarily as promotional material for the movie?

I cant speak to it as an adaption of the book,....But as a work of ar in of itself....I think its honestly pretty darn good.Honestly this is one of the better comic adaptations of a film I have read .I can picture a kid in 1954 picking this up after watching the movie and enjoying it

I can't find it anywhere but I remember reading a post you made that said that Jack and Jill had once been in a Blood Brothers play/musical as Edward and Mickey. Do they have it recorded anywhere? Do you think they'd watch it together just to reminisce? What other plays/musicals have they done?

Successors - Chapter Ten - Called to Mount Lanayru

 *One Year Later*

He’d heard her voice. It seems just memorizing the songs of the Hero of Ten Thousand Years Ago wasn’t enough to free her from a sealed fate. This task he’d accepted from his teacher, to learn all the songs of the Hero to pass them down when Zelda’s husband returned to free their kingdom from the Malice, was about so much more than just mere melodies. 

So he packed up his accordion, said goodbye to his family and departed for the wintery peak of Mount Lanayru. Upon arriving at this wisest peak, he was met with several sights that made him question such a calling: the Malice entangling Naydra, the overthrown atmosphere of the Spring, and the feathery purple reptile staring down at him with a condemning glare. 

"Welcome, Kass, descendant of Revali." The feminine-sounding reptile's tail made a singular echoing smack against the holy water, growing as she absorbed the shadows coming from the statue of the great Goddess Hylia. What was this being? A judge of Wisdom to fulfill Nayru's degree? There wasn't the smallest twitch along the feathery body of the beast, aside from a slight tilt upwards of the head. "So you have come to aid Her Majesty. Good." Minimal light bounced around a small golden bracelet around the front right wrist. In the aged gold, the word 'Sirie' glimmered in the unnatural darkness. "You have found yourself in a very sacred place. The history of entire peoples breathes and dies here, under the unwavering and unbribable eye of Wisdom. Exiles, goddesses and heroes have all rested in these waters since the time of Hylia, and many more to come under here's aid." She bowed her head. "I have seen this being's heart, finding it pure in all ways and wise enough for Judgement. My great descendant of Hylia, please make yourself known in this place."

The symbol of Nayru became alight upon the dragon's head, spreading blue lightness into the darkness before the statue of Hylia was overtaken by another, brighter gold light. Two figures of light, one a strong male and the other a burdened female appeared until their figures formed: the late Prince(King?) of Hyrule and his heavily pregnant wife, Queen Zelda Esmerelda of Hyrule.

"Welcome." Her Majesty the Queen lowered an almost unnoticeable distance, legs trembling under her weight. The strong hand of her fallen warrior and love pulled her back to standing and closer to his side. "Look, Link," She whispered so much quieter to him, but Kass made it out all the same. "He is so different than our fallen friend…" Link preeminently wiped the mourning from her thin cheeks, "but I can sense Revali in him, all the same. A special task… Hylia has set him apart. He will need no sword for the rest of his days. Another, She has chosen for Medoh's charge."  

The softest chuffing danced on the waters, the matriarch's hero leaned ever closer to her. "You don't have to write a poem, dear… He'll understand divinity even in plain Hylian." True to what he'd learned about the fallen Champion, Link took the gentlest hand, tipping the Queen backwards ever so slightly until spirit met goddess. Upon their release, he tipped his own head skyward and a high, long sound flowed from his throat to the stars that house his ancestors. The howl of the last male Wolfbred. 

His wife's words flowed under his enduring howl.  "You have been given a very special gift, along with a very special task. Take these melodies you've learned, give them to the peoples to remind them of us, discover the places we held so dearly, and hold onto your greatest lament for when my love arrives before you cloaked in flesh. He will be but a shell of himself when this happens, and I entrust him only to such a lament about the past, present, and future. It is you, descendant of Revali, Khosha, Revarie, Sydnei and Etoli, to set the stage, and bring the descendants of Champions and Survivors alike so we may close the book on this war started nearly over hundred years ago. To close this book, to open and begin another draped in the courage of this land of successors. 

Kass' legs shuddered from her words, "Yes, my Queen. Whatever you say to end this all."

The King of Wolves finally lowered his head and his howl. "I'll keep an eye on your family. They will grow passionate for this cause." He shook out his full head of hair, kissed his wife once more with only a fraction of the grace, and took a four legged leap into the stars above, becoming one with them all.

"I must see you off as well, for Ganon grows stronger every day. But I know we will meet soon, I feel the heartbeats of the wilds and winds," Zelda winked at her poetically cryptic statement. "Goodbye, yet only for now, Kass."

The next years blazed through like mere moments, serving his king and queen with melodies and lyrics, watching the eyes of children light up at the mention of these powerful legends, and watching the tribes of the once fallen land drift closer and closer to each other; in preparation for the final hours Zelda foretold that night atop the frozen Mount Lanayru.

Mustang horses come in a lot of different colors like brack-skinned white, flea-bitten gray, snip-nosed pinto, cream-maned palomino, splotches Appaloosa, toasted sorrel, red roan, rusty brawn, shining black, blue roan, blue, smoky, coyote dun, and more.

Mustangs are protected under the law for The Roaming Wild Horse and Burro Act of 1971.

Although at the start of the 20th century there were more than 2 million mustangs in the US, that number came to an abrupt decrease to only about 30,000 by the end of the century.

The good cow sense of Mustangs made these creatures great cattle working companions, which is why they quickly became the favorites of both cowboys and Native Americans.

Horses of the Mustang breed are roaming freely for over 300 years now. This is why they are currently very hardy, independent, and thrifty animals.
