Comparisons
I feel like this is important bc uhhh um I wanted to make it. And also show their similarities bc I thought it was interesting!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Barbie and Miss Piggy started off quite different from what we now know, neither one pink! In 1959, Barbie debuted in a black and white swimsuit, based off of adult gag gift toys. Eventually the doll line turned from its origins and began marketing to children. The Muppets: Sex and Violence showed an unnamed pig who began appearing in more and more episodes until she became the character we know and love today. I've also seen mentions that Miss Piggy originally appeared on a talk show or ABC special as Piggy Lee, but I couldn't find anything concrete about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both characters ran for president, though Barbie tried 8 times! Barbie could have defeated Clinton, Bush, and/or Obama, but Miss Piggy could have defeated Regan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Currently there are 41 Barbie movies with a new live action starring Margot Robbie coming out this year! On the other hand, the Muppets have 13 movies (12 depending on how you count.) While I'm not sure if Miss Piggy is in 2 of them, she always takes iconic roles when she's on screen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Each of them are black belts in karate, with their own custom karate gis. But while Barbie is usually seen working in a professional setting, Miss Piggy does not hesitate to chop one her fellow Muppets or celebrities (see Acts of Violence section in the Miss Piggy's karate chops page of the Muppets Wiki.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What Barbie is arguable most known for (outside of her extremely long resume) is her iconic color, Barbie Pink! 2022 was named the year of the color with Valentino and a number of celebrities wearing the vibrant color. While Miss Piggy doesn't have her own color, the flower Miss Piggy Pigsqueak (Bergenia cordifolia) is named after her.

hello everyone!!! for those who may not know me, i'm calie and in the last year i have dedicated myself to making resources for rps whenever i can. i've been unemployed and for over 13 years relying on my meds that currently cost between $190 (R$1,000) and $240 (R$ 1,300) per month, taking in consideration that minimum wage per month here in brazil is $261 (R$1,412) and i rarely get any freelancer job, that won't cover even 15% of my meds. so with a lot of shame, i depend on my parents to keep up my treatment that cannot be discontinued. my city is broken, has no jobs, and i currently have no conditions to move and start over somewhere else. besides, my city had been once of the cities hit by the big flood in brazil for over a month, which made finding a job even more difficult, since establishments are trying to recover from losses. in these last few months, despite needing money, i've been feeling emotionally exhausted and worried with the situation (of expenses and the tragedy in my state), that i simple cannot focus in any project, therefore not being able to take in commissions (that helped me a lot). with all of that being said, i decided to come here, very ashamed, and expose my situation to offer packs of all my sources that i've done in my time as a creator. if you can help me buying any pack, or a ko-fi (source link), that would immensely help in my situation and i'd be really REALLY grateful. under the "read more" are more details about the packs and pricing.

Exclusive Interview with “My Adventures With Superman” Animated Series Co-Producer Josephine Campbell
Q: Clark and Lois are described as being in their 20s in “My Adventures With Superman,” how new are they to their jobs at the Daily Planet?
A: Clark, Lois and Jimmy are interns just starting at the Daily Planet – so they are incredibly new! We wanted to play with our characters’ origins, showing them at a stage of life most “Superman” media hasn’t fully explored. Plus, we love the idea of watching these three learn and grow to become the icons we all know.
Q: If you had to compare “My Adventures With Superman” to any previous version of the Superman story, which would you say it’s most like or draws most inspiration from?
A: Our North Star was the 1978 “Superman: The Movie,” especially the interplay between the incredible Margot Kidder and Christopher Reeve. We loved their chemistry; we loved how smart and feisty Lois was, and loved the heart and altruism of Reeve’s Superman/Clark Kent. The movie was clever, fun, and modernized Superman in a way that felt organic to the time period, while also respectful of what came before. It truly is one of our favorite pieces of Superman media.
Outside of the classic ’78 movie, I and Co-EP’s Jake Wyatt and Brendan Clougher are all kids of the ’80s/’90s, so we’re also influenced by John Byrne’s “Man of Steel,” as well as the work of Jurgens, Bogdanove, and Simonson.
Q: What age group is “My Adventures With Superman” targeted at?
A: Much like the original 1978 film, we’re aiming for a wide co-viewing audience, where kids, teens, and adults can all sit down and watch together.
Q: What can you tell us about Jack Quaid’s interpretation of both Superman and Clark Kent?
A: Jack has been absolutely phenomenal to work with! He’s got great comedic timing as Clark, but he is also able to sell the kindness, strength, and dignity of Superman. It’s been a real privilege to work with him – and it’s also very funny to watch “The Boys” after a record. I really can’t look at Clark OR Hughie the same!
Q: Michael Emerson revealed that he’s voicing the role of Brainiac for the upcoming animated series, how much will we see of Brainiac? Will he play a large role in the series?
A: Michael is an incredible actor who we are excited to work with – I can’t say anything more outside of that!
Q: I believe a certain criminal “gang” will play an important role in the first season of “My Adventures With Superman” with a bit of a twist on the villains involved. Did you make a conscious decision to put your own spin on the villains who would show up on the series?
A: I can’t confirm what villains or characters people should expect to see. All I can say is that, overall, we were looking to modernize Superman while keeping true to the core of the characters, and we hope we’ve done that.
Q: With all the turmoil and upheaval at Warner Bros. Discovery in recent months, how concerned were you about “My Adventures With Superman” possibly being canceled?
A: We were very fortunate to learn early on that “Superman” would still be coming out on Cartoon Network and the app as planned. Mergers are always tumultuous, but we’re glad that we still get to bring our love for Superman to fans old and new.
Q: When will the series premiere on Cartoon Network?
A: No date has been announced as of yet, but stay tuned!
Q: What are you most excited for fans to see in “My Adventures With Superman”?
A: There’s a lot I’m excited for fans to see! I can’t wait for fans to see the relationship between Lois, Clark and Jimmy – these three are the heart of our show, and their friendship and adventures together drive the series and the character arcs for both season one and two.
I’m also especially excited for fans to see the romance between Lois and Clark unfold! Alice Lee and Jack Quaid have fantastic chemistry, and they bring so much humor and warmth to their characters. Lois and Clark/Superman are one of our culture’s most iconic and enduring love stories, so it was deeply important to us to give that part of the Superman mythos a lot of love and attention.
I’m excited for you guys to see the incredible action – we have a LOT of fun with Superman, his powers and his rogues gallery, and we went all out, 110% on every single fight in the show.
Lastly, I’m excited for the show to come out because I’m a huge Superman fan too! Working on Superman has been a dream come true, not just for me but for every single member of our crew. People came into work with their favorite Superman comics and movies to share with each other, screened the Fleischer Studios cartoons during lunch, and dug up the audio of the original Superman radio show from the ’40s to listen to as we wrote and drew. I and everyone on the show adore Superman in all his forms, and I can’t wait to share with you our version of the Big Blue Boy Scout.
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, “My Adventures with Superman” introduces us to twenty-somethings Clark Kent, the bright and driven Lois Lane and their best friend Jimmy Olsen as they begin to discover who they are and everything they can accomplish together as an investigative reporting team at the Daily Planet. Promising a mix of action, comedy and romance, the new series is expected to premiere some time in 2022.
Described as a serialized coming-of-age story, “My Adventures with Superman” will follow Clark as he builds his secret Superman identity and embraces his role as the hero of Metropolis—and perhaps the world. Lois, now growing into a star investigative journalist, takes aspiring photographer Jimmy Olsen under her wing. All the while, Clark and Lois are falling in love, sharing adventures, taking down bad guys, stumbling over secrets and discovering what it means to be Superman and Lois Lane.

THE AARONS 2023 - Best Film Performance
I’m told the recipients of this award totally would have accepted them in person this year if not for the actors’ strike. What about next year, you say? Oh, uh, well, you see, they may be preparing for their next strike. Here is The Aaron for Best Film Performance:
Tumblr media
WINNER: Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer - Oppenheimer
Tumblr media
Throughout his career, Murphy has been rightfully acclaimed for his ability to fully immerse himself in his roles; now, he has become Death, Destroyer of Worlds. To convey the unfathomable nature of its wide-ranging events, Oppenheimer traps viewers in the haunted headspace of the eponymous scientist. Murphy’s brilliant embodiment of the intellectual traces his obsession with accomplishment through to its harrowing aftermath. A scarecrow could scarcely look more gaunt than the actor by the time of the film’s finale. Through the subtle reactions in Murphy’s eyes, one can plainly see the horrific chain of events that Oppenheimer feared he brought to fruition.
Tumblr media
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Lily Gladstone as Mollie Burkhart - Killers of the Flower Moon
The wealth of talents possessed by the Certain Woman star reached full bloom with Flower.
Tumblr media
Margot Robbie as Barbie - Barbie
Equal parts perky and percipient, Robbie’s rendition of the iconic doll will leave viewers tickled pink.
Tumblr media
Greta Lee as Nora - Past Lives
Lee leaves a lot unspoken as the loving lead; her nuances as Nora puts her in full control of Lives.
Tumblr media
Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich - The Iron Claw
Efron’s heartbreaking portrayal of a man wrestling with unthinkable pain is the strongest in the actor’s body of work.
Tumblr media

thoughts on britney's memoir getting an adaptation? apparently reese witherspoon, brad pitt and margot robbie's production houses are all interested in producing.
It's ultimately Britney's choice and I respect her decision making as long as she makes the decision freely. My primary concern would be her health; and I don't know that the kind of attention and potential re-lived trauma (which is different when you see it reenacted onscreen versus recalled for a memoir; and is also different in terms of the amount of attention given) would be especially good for her at this time. But I don't know her. I'm not her doctor or her therapist. I hope she is working with both and has a trusting relationship with both, as I know that's been an issue in the past.
From an artistic perspective, I think it's way too soon. We are very much still living the cultural coming to terms with Britney's icon status, her work, and what she's been through. Her kids are both young and seem to be influenced primarily by people who have never had their mother's best interests at heart. I kind of doubt that they've been able to even attempt to work on their relationship with her if they want to, let alone reconcile with what's happened to them--and that's lost on people, including myself, in this situation. While I don't necessarily think Britney is a horrendous mother so much as a very abused and mentally ill one.... That does tend to leave her kids with some pretty deep trauma, and when we discuss Britney's life, we discuss their lives, too. By no means does this mean I don't support her telling her truth, but when she does, when this shit is on the internet, and ESPECIALLY when it's events that these kids were alive for (I think especially of the in depth reporting on when Britney was taken from her home via ambulance--her breakdown was in part prompted, allegedly, by an attempt to remove one or both of the babies for Kevin Federline's "turn" at having them; they can't remember that, but it is intense to read about as a third party, let alone as the person who was the baby she was holding while locked in a bathroom). Anyway, I don't love what this would do to them, at their ages, either.
You know, my stance on biopics is always like... Everyone can do them, provided it's all legally above board. I will never say "biopics are wrong", because they aren't inherently wrong and I think that at their best they can aid in reexamining cultural touchstones and important people (I'm thinking of Spike Lee's Malcolm X, which I think recontextualized and celebrated Malcolm, whose work had been obfuscated very purposefully by the powers that be), OR shed light on some really messed up things general audiences weren't aware of (Rocket Man did an amazing job with illustrating the exploitation of artists like Elton John, ESPECIALLY when they're dependent on substances). Or simply be good entertainment. Some of them may be heavily based on fact, but they're all works of fiction, right?
But there are always going to be moral quandaries with individual works, and even when I disagree with some of the basis of them, I agree with debating them and having those conversations. When I think of how a movie like Priscilla would have potentially impacted the mental health of Lisa Marie Presley, had she been with us now, I get uncomfortable. That's what the idea of a Britney movie makes me think of (and no, Priscilla isn't Lisa Marie's story, but it absolutely would have directly impacted her). If all is legal, I don't argue with it being made in total, but it just doesn't seem like a very healthy move, even if it's based on Britney's words.

The Superman Curse
DC Comics began life as Detective Comics. Nowadays, like Marvel Comics, its known for its abundance of Superheroes such as Batman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman. During 1933 two friends, Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster, combined their imaginations to come up with the Superhero that single-handedly began the entire genre. Five years after selling their idea to Detective Comics, Kal-El, to give him a Kryptonian name, made his debut in Action Comics #1 and went on to not only save the world hundreds of times over, but to dominate it. Quickly becoming an American icon and global phenomenon, Superman spawned an industry that covered everything from television to film franchises to merchandising.
Even before the presses rolled on that first incarnation of the Man of Steel, misfortune was already at play. Both Siegel and Schuster sold more than just the idea to DC Comics; they sold the copyright itself and, for many years afterwards, missed out on all the income that their original concept would create. While the pair did end up with the royalties that they considered that they should have had, it took almost an entire lifetime to accomplish.
What happened to the boys might simply be a case of corporate exploitation and naivety, as they were not the only hopefuls looking to turn an idea into a powerhouse juggernaut of a franchise. They were just among the handful that had the right ideas at the right time.
Since the early days of Superman though, a great many people involved with the legendary superhero have suffered some misfortune or catastrophe. This catalogue of woe simply cannot all be written off as mere coincidence.
George Reeves was one of the first actors to portray Superman in the 1950s television show The Adventures of Superman. He played the title role for 6 years. When he was only 45, Reeves suffered a fatal gunshot wound that was officially ruled as self-inflicted, but many believe that it wasn’t.
Christopher Reeve brought Superman to the big screen in 1978. Eight years after making his final appearance inSuperman 4, George’s namesake was involved in a horse riding accident that left him paralyzed for the rest of his life.
In the same film franchise, Marlon Brando made a cameo as Jor-El. In 1990, Brando’s son was found guilty of the shooting of his half-sister’s boyfriend and sent to prison for a decade. Half way through his sentence, Cheyenne Brando took her own life.
Margot Kidder is best known as Lois Lane. She went missing for several days in April 1996 before being found in a paranoid and delusional state.
Richard Pryor stole the show in Superman 3 in his role as Gus Gorman. Three years after, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
Lee Quigley also had a cameo in the first Superman film in 1978. He was the newborn that was sent to Earth amid Krypton’s destruction. Lee was found dead in his mid-teens due to complications with substance abuse.
Muriel Hemingway appeared in the final Superman film in 1987. Muriel’s older sister, Margaux, was found dead from an overdose of sedatives. Muriel has always refuted this conclusion.
Three members of the production crew for Superman Returns were victims of minor accidents. One was assaulted and mugged. Another fell down a flight of stairs and the third smashed into a glass window. Kate Bosworth, Lois Lane in this reboot, blamed her break-up with Orlando Bloom solely on the curse.
Superman 64 was a video-game that was released to poor reviews on the Nintendo 64. Bad graphics and glitched gameplay are among the negative comments. It has been voted as the worst game ever released on the Nintendo 64 system.
Critics of the Superman Curse will inevitably insist that these instances are nothing more than simply a case of bad luck. Other actors that have been involved in Superman productions have managed to avoid becoming another statistic. Dean Cain has had a successful career after playing his version of the 1990s television Superman series Lois & Clark. The same is true of Teri Hatcher, probably even more so. More modern Supermen Tom Welling, Henry Cavill and Brandon Routh have yet to taste any misfortune due to their involvement in Superman. In fact the latter pair dismiss the idea of the curse outright.
Superman has even appeared on Broadway! The star of the 1966 musical It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Superman! was Bob Holiday. According to Holiday, the notion of a curse is a silly one and says that his experiences have been highly beneficial and ‘nothing but good’. After his stint on Broadway ended, he became a very successful businessman in Florida until his retirement.

I did it! I watched ALL the best film nominees for the Oscars 2024. Go me. I thought I'd do a little personal ranking here just for kicks, but overall it was actually quite a strong year!
Oppenheimer. I mean... it really is perfect. And I don't even think I'm too biased as a huge Nolan fan. Truly one of his best films and honestly even though I hate the "career" awards I do think he deserves it.
The Holdovers. Maybe my biggest surprise and the film I've been thinking about ever since. I would watch this every year around Christmas tbh. It was heartwarming and sincere without being sappy and the performances and script were incredible. A real joy.
Poor Things. I love Yorgos and his fucked up weirdo mind. This was also visually incredible and like I said, even though it isn't my favourite of his films, I always enjoy the risks he takes and the performances he can get out of the actors.
The Zone of Interest. Harrowing and uncomfortable, exactly the way a movie about the Holocaust should be. The thing that really got me was the sound; seeing this family living their perfect little lives in the sunshine while hearing people screaming and industrial machinery in the background was so jarring and SO effective. Sandra Huller saying she gave Hedwig absolutely zero introspection was a god tier choice because it worked so well... she lacked any sort of empathy without being a cartoon villain.
Anatomy of a Fall. Sandra Huller strikes again! How iconic to be in two best picture nominated films in the same year. This was so riveting and I loved that it really boiled down to the fact that it didn't matter if she did it or not and rather how it affected her and everyone else in her life.
American Fiction. Another kind of delightful surprise. Didn't think I'd be hugely interested in this but it was soooo funny at times and also managed to express some deep emotional beats without being overdramatic. Great critique of the publishing industry alongside some realistic family relationships.
Past Lives. Not my usual type of film but it was shot so beautifully that it's really kind of stuck with me. Greta Lee was so natural in her role (and also insanely gorgeous like, HOW).
Killers of the Flower Moon. Scorsese isn't my favourite director and I did think this was way too long but it definitely had its moments. Lily Gladstone was the true star tbh.
Barbie. Ehhhh??? It was fine. Idk. Again, not really my usual type of film. In a way I'm glad to see it nom'd just because I think the Academy can get real snobby about what gets accolades but I definitely don't think it deserves to win.
Maestro. /fart noises.
There are some films that got other nominations that I haven't seen (Nyad, Rustin, May December, El Conde etc.) but I don't know if I'll get around to those. My biggest complaint about noms is that Dominic Sessa didn't get anything for Best Supporting Actor. For his first role EVER he absolutely nailed it. Margot probably should have had a Best Actress nom but I don't have super strong feelings about it. America Ferrerra nom is ?!?!?!? why tho. I wish Lily Gladstone was in Best Supporting because I think both Emma Stone and Sandra Huller had huge performances this year. But yeah overall really strong Best Pictures!
