📚 favorite book
how could you do this to me /lh
I could never choose so I’m just gonna list some that come to mind
Animorphs (special mention of the Ellimist Chronicles) by KA Applegate
I talk about this one a bunch on my fandom blog @dr-reids-fidget-toy . The author was inspired by Star Trek. Kids book. Child soldiers, war horror, body horror, existential horror, age-appropriate jokes, aliens. Set in the 90s. Series of 50+ books. Many were ghostwritten. POC characters.
All of Us Villains / All of Our Demise by Amanda Foody & Christine Lynn Herman
In this world, magick is real. However, all of the high magick was depleted long ago, except for a stash of it that only 7 families know about. Each generation, a teen from each family has to fight for their life in a Hunger Games-style tournament to determine which family gets control of the high magick for the next 20 years. An anonymous author has recently published a book about this barbaric practice, and this year is the first time the outside world will know about the tournament (media coverage galore!). LGBT+ characters (Queer romance). 2 books. POC characters.
Vicious by VE Schwab (the second book is also very good but the first is my personal fave)
Two college students decide to conduct an experiment after learning of mysterious abilities developed after near-death experiences. The participants? Themselves, of course. Shit goes down. They come back wrong. Has a sequel. LGBT+ character (ace rep!!).
The Mirror Season by Anna-Marie McLemore
TW Sexual Assualt
A girl is sexually assaulted at a party, and returns home to find that her peculiar cooking abilities have vanished. Things around her start turning into mirror shards and breaking into dust. She meets a boy, and they realize they were assaulted at the same party. Buried memories threaten to surface as they become friends, and romance forms. A story about healing from trauma, with a touch of magical realism. (At least, I think it’s magical realism). Queer character. POC characters.
We Were Liars by E Lockhart
Great story with a huge twist. A rich family spends every summer on their private island. The main character is part of this family. After a terrible incident last summer, she cannot remember the event or anything her family has told her about it. She is also plagued by terrible migraines. Now, it’s summer again and her cousins are right where she expected, despite them not contacting her since the accident. POC character.
Foul is Fair by Hannah Capin
TW Sexual Assault
A girl goes to a party and is sexually assaulted by a group of boys. She plots with her 3 best friends and her parents to kill everyone involved. Short summary but trust me, read it. POC characters. LGBT+ characters.
The Gilded Wolves series by Roshani Chokshi
A group of thieves/found family are tricked into agreeing to a dangerous heist. Set in Paris, 1889. Magic is real in the form of Forging - the ability to create and imbue objects with special powers. I can’t say much without giving away the plot. POC characters. Queer characters (including a romance plot). Autistic character. 3 books.

🧐 What is Characterization in Literature?
In literature, writers use characterization to teach readers about a character. There are two main elements of characterization: Direct and indirect.
🫵 Direct Characterization
Direct characterization means the writer directly tells a reader about a character. When characterized directly, there is little to no room for reader interpretation. Direct characterization examples include physical descriptions or the author outright stating facts about a character, like their job, relationships, etc.
📚 For example, from Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See:
“In a corner of the city, inside a tall, narrow house at Number 4 rue Vauborel, on the sixth and highest floor, a sightless sixteen-year-old named Marie-Laure LeBlanc kneels over a low table covered entirely with a model.”
Doerr directly characterizes Marie-Laure LeBlanc as a sightless sixteen-year-old. There is nothing up for interpretation about where she lives, her blindness, or her age.
👉 Indirect Characterization
Indirect characterization reveals information about a character through their actions, dialogue, thoughts, etc.
📚 For example, again from All the Light We Cannot See:
“All evening she has been marching her fingers around the model, waiting for her great-uncle Etienne, who owns this house, who went out the previous night while she slept, and who has not returned.”
In this passage, readers learn more about Marie-Laure: she is patient and focused, maybe even a little obsessive.
You may have noticed that Doerr mixes direct with indirect characterization in this passage, as writers often do. While readers learn more about Marie-Laure through her actions, Doerr also directly tells readers that her great-uncle owns the house.
🥸 Physical Descriptions
Physical descriptions of characters can work on three levels:
They tell readers what a character looks like.
They tell readers a little about what a character is like.
They tell readers more about the main character because of what they’re choosing to notice about other people.
🫠 When writing descriptions, keep in mind that it’s not really interesting to describe characters by their hair color or their eyes. Those kinds of descriptors don’t tell readers anything about the character.
Instead, try focusing on interesting or unique bits of the character. For example, you could talk about the ash between a character’s fingers. While strange, it gives readers a visual to latch onto while also indicating that this character must wash their hands a lot and not follow up with lotion. Are they OCD? Do they work in the medical field? But also, why is your MC noticing this? Are they judgmental?
The point is small, strange details can generate questions and intrigue, whereas “The woman had brown hair” does no work for any kind of character development. However, if that woman had blonde hair with ends so fried you can see them crunching and breaking off and brown roots two inches thick, that kind of hair description says a lot about who that character is as a person.
⛔ Characterization Don’ts
New writers often introduce characters in cliché ways. Here are some characterization mistakes to avoid:
Letting your character introduce themselves directly to your readers. For example, “Hi, my name is Mary, and I’m 53.” This might work for children’s or middle grade books, but otherwise, it’s best to avoid it.
Information dumping. In real life, people get to know each other over time, learning bits of information every time they see each other. Your characters should do the same.
Introducing your main character’s physical appearance by looking in a mirror or at a picture of themselves.
Introducing your main character as they start their day, such as waking up or showering. Instead, start your story in media res, which is Latin for “in the midst of things.” Start your story when the action begins.

9. tell a story about your childhood. ➵ when I was really little my family and I went on vacation in austria hiking (because that has pretty much always been the best vacation we could afford) and on this mountain there was a HUGE metal slide and even though I was scared my mom took me up there and sent me off, but it was raining and I was wearing one of these full on rubber rainsuits and sped up SO FAST that my dad had to jump to catch me because otherwise I would have just shot off the side of the mountain and down the edge. I really wanna know who thought placing that slide there was a good idea. and idk why this is what came to mind for this question😂
12. what’s some good advice you want to share? ➵ to just do your thing, dance to the beat of your own drum and don't care what other people think. express yourself the way you want. I know it's hard, I struggle with it too, but it's something I'm trying to get better at
14. what’s something you’ve always wanted to do but maybe been to scared to do? ➵ many things, but one thing I just talked about today is sailing. my bf loves it and wants to take me but it looks dangerous and fast and my ass can't swim
18. do you believe in ghosts and/or aliens? ➵ wouldn't say I 100% believe it but I had moments where I was convinced there was a ghost in the room for a moment. and I believe there has to be another sentient life out there but I'd rather never know because aliens scare the shit out of me
🇪🇺 nationality. ➵ german! was born and raised in germany by an italian mother and american dad who have both lived here since they were little as well💕
📚 fave book. ➵ that's hard, but anything by anna marie mclemore, kurt vonngut, and what comes to mind right now is also the girl who fell beneath the sea

Liam Jones, Belle French, Rumplestiltskin, Regina, Graham, Killian Jones, Emma Swan, David Nolan, Mary Margaret Blanchard, and Walsh for the ten characters asks!
Oh goodness! I am excited about this - it really does seem like fun ☺️ Thanks for the ask @kazoosandfannypacks!!
Marry - Graham (What can I say? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Is anyone here shocked by this answer? 🥰)
Tumblr media
Drink tea with - Belle French (I’d rather coffee, but still, wouldn’t it be fun to sit and sip and talk about books with Belle? ☕️📚)
Party with - David Nolan (He just seems like he’d be fun and know everyone and everyone would like him, and yet he’d look out for you if things got too wild.)
Kiss - Killian Jones (Could I really pass up a chance to smooch our handsome Captain?)
Go out on a date with - Liam Jones (Handsome, chivalrous, charming, sounds like the recipe for a great date!)
Tumblr media
Push down the stairs - Walsh (Enough said)
Slap - Regina (That would really be quite satisfying… 😉)
Invade the dreams of - Emma Swan (I’ll admit, this one had me stumped for a minute. Then I thought about how full of Killian Emma’s dreams probably are, and decided they’d be a pretty lovely place!)
Tumblr media
Take a nap with - Mary Margaret Blanchard (It would probably be nice and cozy like cuddling up next to your mom when you were little! Plus, MM would have snacks, and all the pillows and blankets, and make sure you were comfy and everything was just right!)
Rob- Rumplestiltskin (Just think of the treasure trove he has squirreled away in his shop! I’d just have to make very sure I didn’t get caught!! 😬🫣)

hi garfield!!! i was wondering if i could get 📚 library; i’ve maxed out my book limit • so ill tell you who would be your lover, best friend, and enemy/rival!! — send in a description about yourself; personality, appearance too if you'd like, gender preference & fandom.
personality: i’m a very sarcastic person, i’m kinda mean but only if we’re friends or you’re rude to me. to strangers i’m pretty nice and stuff. i’m a very funny person even w/o meaning to and i’m very loyal. i have a lot of negative traits tho including anger issues, bottling up my feelings, and being quite judgmental even if i don’t voice my judgements.
looks: i’m 5’6-5’7, i currently have bleach blonde hair but i’m dying it orangey-brown soon, it’s very shaggy and dead :,). i’m kinda tan but not super. i have freckles and moles on my face and arms. i have hazel eyes and a heart shaped face :)
i’m agender and use they/he prns, my gender preference is male and if you could i’d like stranger things and hp (but if just one then stranger things please<3)
i hope all that’s enough!!! have a good day/night :)
okay sorry if I get any of the details of Stranger Things wrong because I’m not super into it yet ;) you never said if you wanted The fruity four or the party.. I gave you the party, it just felt right :))
mike wheeler; he’s kind of a dick so if you were a dick back to him maybe he would like that. by dick I mean sarcastic. but yeah. but ngl he seems like he has a lot of problems, like you said you have anger issues and I feel like he has anger issues too so i feel like you would go at each other… now I feel like you and Dustin would have a lot of fun <3 just being sarcastic the whole time ;) I feel like you both would raise dart together <3 (was that his name?) same with Will, he seems like a more comforting friend so I feel like he would help with the feelings and just talking about it instead of getting mad about it. I feel like Lucas would be mean back too but would also be playing with you yk yeha
you’re nice to strangers; when eleven came to Hawkins, you most likely welcomed her in ‘cause like she was in pouring rain in a big shirt so you now have your first girl best friend and then moving onwards when Max comes to hawkins, and her and eleven became friends, it was eleven’s mission to make you two become friends!! once she introduced you two, she put her hands on both of your shoulders like in a side hug and said, “friends!” nodding her head with her beautiful big smile while you 'nd max just said, “yeah, sure.” shrugging into the side hug, then all three of you went to the mall <3
I really don’t know about the fruity for though :) i’m kind of set on the party with you.. if you want the fruity four tell me what you doing your free time? ;) i just don’t know. like I don’t know who would you love in the party so yeha. maybe you have a little crush on Steve 😭
I don’t feel like you would have a rival… except for venca but like a person that hates you.? no one could hate you. maybe what’s up bitches name in season four release she was bullying El… idfk I don’t need to know her name.. maybe she would hate you bc you fucked her up yeah!! ;DDDD
okay now hp :)) yeahhh you didn’t choose marauders or golden era 😭 i’m sorry I should’ve stated this in the post, im choosing which one I think you would be the best in <33
I feel like you would be best friends with Lily!! oh yeahhh, but then you would grow very close with Marlene once you met her, similar personalities I feel like ;) I feel like Alice & Mary are great with like feelings and so it lily, I feel like Lily would know how to deal with your anger issues or when you get mad or something. if you were to say something maybe judgmental I feel like Lily would scold you on that and also school you school you on that, like if you’re unknowing of something maybe.. I feel like she would also help you grow from your negative traits like if you were to pointed out to her or she was just seeing that you were acting different. somehow.
Remus lupin. just yes! you give me sirius vibes ngl. I feel like you and Sirius would be best friends too, and slowly build into something more. BUT. you and Remus were also close too and yeha, you were building closer with him your friendship with Sirius was becoming something else. and then you got with Remus right.. Sirius is still very flirty to both of you and he was the biggest shipper EVER!!! and then since you and Remus were already together you guys like talked and since Sirius was into both of you you then talk to him and I don’t know if you like into poly relationships but I feel like you three together would be good!! <33
enemy um except for Voldemort I do not know…
also thank you && goodnight <33

✨📚54321 tag📚✨
Tagged by the esteemed @thecasualbookreviewer, thank you (and with my apologies for the silly delay)! ✨
🌻 5 Books I’m loving / have loved:
These all received 5 stars from me when I read them recently (i.e. within the last 2 years because I’m picky about my 5-star ratings like that) 🥰
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel (narrated by Kirsten Potter) - this was a reread but first time as an audiobook and it definitely holds up. Anything that’s built on the premise of “survival is not enough“ and the importance of culture and especially active culture and also remembrance and stories is all absolute catnip to me.
The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison - yes I picked this up because someone I’m following (who I can’t remember right now) was always talking this up. and you know what, they were right. I’ve also read the companion novel now but I prefer the focus on political intrigue with this one.
Firekeeper’s Daugher by Angeline Boulley - an absolutely unexpected joy, a thrill to read. The strength of a community can defeat most anything!!
Sitting Pretty: The View From My Ordinary, Resilient, Disabled Body by Rebekkah Taussig (narrated by the author) - by far one of my favourite non fiction reads (maybe my ambivalence about memoirs is something I made up about myself). Frank and open and openhearted, this is a fantastic read.
The Hopkins Manuscript by R.C. Sheriff - this was or book club and the first one we read since we started a year ago where everyone unanimously agreed it was a great read. Also one of my few forays into reading fiction from before like, the 80s. Amazing how much the author was able to predict about the future we now live.
🌼4 autobuy authors:
These are authors I name whenever someone can only think of male SFF authors as their favourites: Melina Marchetta, Juliette Marillier, Kristen Cashore, and Anna-Marie McLemore.
🌸3 genres i love:
Not to be too specific or anything but: unwilling companions on a road trip by foot, timey-wimey or otherwise ~weird~ murder mysteries, and uhhhhhh queer horror sure.
🌺2 places I love to read:
RIP the reading corner at my previous place, consisting of: bean bag, little stand next to me for tea and snacks and a scented candle, fairy lights, and a mermaid tail blanket. Second place goes to the sun trap terrace with lazy chairs in my parents’ garden.
🌷1 book/series I promised to read:
I just started Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb and intend to complete at least the Farseer trilogy!
i’m not tagging anyone bc i feel i lost the right after taking so long to answer this.... byt if anyone is keen please jump in and tag me!

Hi!!! Thanks!! Here come some probably-not-very-coherent but very rambling answers that I hope can satisfy, feel free to ask follow up questions if you want~
🍉 Fruit:
Strawberries!!!!!! The ultimate fruit and the ultimate flavor!!
I fuckin love berries!! Blueberries, raspberries~ Most berries are great. Except blackberries. (Gooseberries!!! More people need to realize the goodness of gooseberries). Peaches, Granny Smith apples, the occasional clementine…
🥦 Veggie:
Tomatoes!!!! I know they’re technically a fruit but I’ve got autism food pickiness and people put them in salad so they count. And I fucking love tomatoes I’ll eat a fucker like an apple give it to me
🎲 Game:
Videogame: Pokémon Emerald
Boardgame: Mancala, Backgammon
😇 Blorbo:
I have too many and it’s not like I rank them I don’t play favorites with my children. You can just go back in this blog and you’ll figure it out p easy if you’ve got time, patience, and enough curiosity.
Like you’ll find a good chunk of like 2019-2023 of p consistent Witcher Jaskier content that I’m not currently in bc I’ve been overcome with a new hyperfixation.
If you want the ones I’ve had the longest….
The ones I still post about/interact with/have strong feelings for now that I loved before high school (context- my last year of middle school/first year of high school was 2010) are…
- Shawn Spencer, Psych
- Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Homes stories- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Specifically the Books/Short Stories)
And the main ones from high school/college (2011-2016?) are…
- The Doctor, Doctor Who (the whole character every incarnation that’s my baby right there)
- Roronoa Zoro, One Piece (the original boi, I made this tumblr to find and collect fanart of him in like 2014 or something so all the OGs that still follow me on here from my One Piece days are real ones)
I got into anime as a whole around then, so there are too many anime blorbos; I’m not listing them all, but most are voiced by Kazuya Nakai or Daisuke Ono, or is a girl from Love Live.
Currently I’m fucking obsessed with Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss so it’s hard to think of other things and I know like it’s one of the most annoying fandoms someone could suddenly attack your dash with but I can’t help it I’m compelled by these fuckin guys
📚 Book(s):
The Princess Bride: S. Morganstern’s Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure- William Goldman
The Complete Sherlock Holmes- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Amelia Peabody mysteries- Elizabeth Peters
Mary Russell mysteries (specifically the first two: The Beekeepers Apprentice: or, On the Segregation of the Queen; and A Monstrous Regiment of Women)- Laurie R. King
Harry Dresden series- Jim Butcher
Nancy Drew mysteries- Carolyn Keene
Phryne Fisher mysteries- Kerry Greenwood
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch- Terry Pratchet & Neil Gaiman
Mrs. Murphy mysteries- Rita Mae Brown & Sneaky Pie Brown
I have too many I’m sorry I’ll stop here; I could read before kindergarten, going to the library was my main weekend fun activity to do with mom as a child, my high school senior superlative was “Biggest Reader,” I was reading while walking between classes and everyone apparently noticed even when they didn’t talk to me. I like mysteries~

And for my go-to comfort read is always the Shatter Me series (Aaron Warner is the love of my life, period 💍💯✨💗), or ACOTAR. I also like to re-read the Little Prince, Peter Pan or The Grest Gatsby when I don’t know what to read lol.
This are so many recs 🥵🤓 but I have lot more 🤭😭 I read quite a lot🌝 There are also many books, which I like, but haven’t yet been translated into English 😅🥲
Hope some of my recs would interest you 🤲🏼🤓🤗💞✨
IF anyone who wants to send in more recs, please do! 🤲🏼💖☺️🤓
