you're actually so sweet to ask?? <333 i've been kind of all over the place tbh...

i'm loving new zealand so far in itself. wellington is gorgeous and has some small town/chill vibes ? idk how to explain it. the architecture is super interesting and i've been obsessing over the trees in this country for the past 2 weeks cos they're so gorgeous and different than what i'm used to! the weather is super lovely to, for winter. not cold at all and i'm living for the wind!! also ! they have nandos here??? which i didn't know ?? but a huuuuge win for me. i haven't been yet, but i will soon. i must.

but it's also been a huge adjustment? the time difference is a big thing to get used to ? i feel completely out of synch with everyone and kind of lonely tbh. but then i felt lonely in canada too so i suppose it's not a big difference in the end *shrug*. at least, here i don't know anyone so i have an excuse lmao. but yeah, it's kind of weird. it's also been really stressful, as you can imagine. flat hunting and job hunting at the same time is a lot, but i've found a room and i finally moved in on monday ! so that's helped with stress levels. i've been working on making it cozy these past few days...

ive been working on my desk space and creating a nice little insp board/decoration for when i'm working on my novel.

so yeah, that's helped! i still feel like there's no jobs for me and i'm unqualified for literally everything and i'm prob. gonna have to slither back home in disgrace and ruin in 6 months ....

but that's prob. just my anxiety talking.... we'll see haha.

i am feeling better! i got a job!!! started on monday. it's in a cafe in a corporate building, part of a small chain. it's a big learning curve cos it's the kind of hospitality work i've never done before, but it's really exciting. everyone's been super kind/supportive (customers and coworkers). in a few weeks time i'm even gonna start barista training so that's cool. i know nothing about coffee since i don't drink it so i'm eager to learn that. hopefully i'll love it ? it's a nice schedule too, closed on the weekend and at 4pm on week days... lots of downtime to hopefully write that fucking novel, right?

my only concern rn i guess is that it's a super small team (there's only 5 of us atm) and while everyone is super kind, i don't see myself hanging out with any of them outside work. so idk how i'm gonna make some pals/get a social life out here (i'm already so introverted RIP) but yk i've only been here 5 weeks so it's not like it's abnormal for me not to know anyone yet.

but yeah, things are good. adjusting to the new morning schedule (i am SUCH a night owl rip) and also to my gamer roommates who sometimes yell at their computers late a night (that's for real the biggest of all adjustments; i come from a household of 3 quiet introverts.... noises like that is hard to get used to.)

as for exploring... i feel like i haven't done that much stuff that's super touristy?? but i've been walking around a lot and just discovering my neighbourhood and the city in general... having fun looking at the architecture and the trees and how different the vibe is here?

i still feel a little lonely i think. it's not the same love at first sight feeling that scotland was ? but then nothing could be.... and i'm still really loving it here so far. so yk, high hopes. now that i've started earning, i can prob treat myself to some cool experiences too.

This is antisemitic as it is an attempt at re-writing jewish history.

Now regardless of your opinion on the Israel and Palestine conflict, Joseph and Mary are jews who lived in Judea, a Jewish kingdom. Tichel is also a head covering worn by jewish women, usually married jewish women.

The blatent erasure of Jewish history and Jewish culture and traditions is antisemitic.

And the person who made that comment, Golriz Ghahraman, holds 3 degrees. A bachelor of laws, a bachelor of art history and a master of studies in international human rights law with a distinction from Oxford. She is a smart woman.

Antisemitism never has and never will be solely a behavior which only right wing uneducated people engage in. Anyone from any background can be antisemitic.

The Olympic Sports I Think Nancy Drew Characters Would Play Based on Vibes

Ned: swimming. Oh man he has big swimmer energy. I will not elaborate. Daryl does too.

Kiri: rugby. In fact she was on the women’s NZ rugby team that just won gold. If you didn’t see her you weren’t watching hard enough not my problem

Jane Penvellyn (in a few years): DRESSAGE. Oh my god. All the Penvellyns are dressage. It’s a linage of dressage. That whole family is so dressage coded. Except for Alan, he did modern pentathlon.

Katie AND Jenna: they both do canoe and kayak slaloms and they are big rivals and lovers. Also Holt does sailing.

Tex: I know you think I’m going to say an equestrian sport but that’s WRONG he does shooting. Try to tell me that man has ever missed a rifle shot I dare you! (Ollie has though lol)

Minette: she switched martial arts to Judo but she loses her first match and gets kicked out of the tournament because she announces every move she’s about to do.

Brenda Carlton: rhythmic gymnastics. The US does not perform well in that sport and she’s going to do nothing to change it.

Helena: triathlon. Imagine it. She can swim and bike and run, I’m sure of it.

Niobe: did you know that up until the 1940s they had art categories in the Olympics? Unfortunately that was like 80 years ago so sorry Niobe it isn’t happening for you.

EPISODE FOUR

- the way the crew chewed Ed out on his walk of shame lol

- The sandwich hitting Lusicus in the face was hilarious and seemed unplanned.

- Ed immediately finds something alive & wants to make it his BBF. He is so needy

- It's Rachel House! I love her. She's hilarious. Really getting some amazing NZ talent now they are filming in NZ

- I'm so glad Ed & Stede worked it out. Ed has it so bad he trusts Stede again to run off after his confession.

- Ed learns a lesson about CHANGING! My heart. Mary & Anne are a cautionary tale but I feel like they both decided not to follow that path.

- Is it crazy that I feel a little hope for Anne/Mary when Anne burn down the house & they decided to move on together facing their fears & showing they love each other. Not saying they aren't still going to be toxic and full of kinks but it's a step in the right direction.

- I knew Bottons would turn into a bird! Yes king!

EPISODE 5:

- So much happened I. These two episodes but can we just appreciate that Roach invented peanut paste aka planet butter & immediately Frenchie was allergic to it

It's the little things honsetly

- Don't think I didn't notice Roach commenting on Frenchie's beautiful body cause that was 100% on my radar

- laughing at making Ed wear a bell

- Lucius was way too into pushing Ed off the ship lol I laughed at Ed yelling "do you feel closer yet"

- Ed hanging on the side of the ship & Fang rowing up and asking him if he wanted to go fishing felt so Marior

- loved Fang calling Ed out. It needed to happen. love that Fang got to tell Ed that those "games" weren't fun. I think Ed delused himself a lot about bad things to live with himself. We know he loves to play pretend & get lost in it. Yet we also know from the gravy bowl that Ed was upset about the way his old Captain hurt his crew & he was talking to himself really...so part of him knows it's wrong, dislikes it & part of him doesn't care or pretends not to care and it's no big deal as way to deal with what is happening.

- The way Olu, Jim & Archie just quietly and quickly rolled into a little united threesome is giving me life. I don't know the state of the romantic relationships and it doesn't matter cause them just being a united them is everything

- Fang is just adorable when he was telling Ed to be quite😂 he's so soft I love him. Kevin Jr lol I want more Fang pls

- Is it possible Ed has ADHD but also has trouble sitting with himself quietly cause he doesn't like himself & feel unlovable.

- the kiss in moonlight🥰

- Buttons & The Swede are off the ship. Archie & Izzy are on

Do you have a recap of the panel from the earlier day that you posted pics from as well? Or only the last day? (No rush to post it if you do, just want to know whether it’ll be coming).

The Saturday VIP panel was awkwardly run, and not as good as the Monday Panels. I did take some notes after I left just for myself so I would remember what they talked about. They aren’t as comprehensive because I hadn’t yet realised people would be as interested in knowing.

I have had a few people ask about the first panel so I’ll put my notes below for those who are interested. I haven’t edited these so if there’s any spelling or grammar mistakes forgive me. And just to note, a lot of what was said was repeated again in the Monday panels because people asked similar questions.

Michelle

My favourite Michelle story was her saying when she pinned Peter to the wall and kissed him and she held her other hand back behind her and Jenna just took her hand and held it in her own and she turned to Jenna and said you’re weird.

She auditioned for a different role got it had to turn it down because she was working on something else at the time, wouldn’t say what, but told Moffatt that if anything else came up to give her a call because she really wanted to do Doctor Who. Then she got a call from her agent they asked if she was sitting, so she sat down, and they told her that Moffatt wanted her to play the master and she asked her agent is Moffatt new she was a woman, her agent said yes and the rest is history. Also a number of answer were similar to the main panels because people asked similar questions between the panels.

It was Moffatt’s idea for Mary Poppins to be the most terrible villain in the universe, which she thinks is great. And she gave props to the costume designer for bringing the outfit to life.

In SVU her first scene was with Mariska Hargitay with 4 pages of dialogue and at the end of it she walked off and in character shoulder tapped her, that wasn’t in the script or directing, and she walked around the corner and freaked out because she realised she just shoulder checked her boss, and she heard Mariska go… who is that? And she thought oh no I just got myself fired but Mariska loved it.

She had a crush on Peter back in the day… long before Doctor Who. She remembers him like a Scottish David Bowie when she was up and coming as an actress

Her first job out of school was playing David Bowies girlfriend in a movie.

She talked about if wanting to pursue acting be ready for rejection and understand what parts you’ll be able to play. That she found success later in life because she couldn’t really pull off the girl next door but once she got older and grew into her face and could play villains and witches she was able to get more parts, but that can take time and lots of rejection and you need you push through and not let it get you down.

One of Michelle Favourite episodes is when she turned up to set with her 8 year old son and there were daleks everywhere and she put her son in one and stayed in all day he was so excited (she wasn’t sure the episode name but maybe it’s The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar?)

She didn’t adlib much in doctor who because Moffatt was very good at writing in her voice so when doing the scripts nothing ever felt off.

When asked about where is like in NZ she said she had only gotten in the morning before so she’d have to come back to that but she was planning on doing some sight seeing after the con.

Sacha

My favourite Sacha story was saying he had to send in an audition tape to Chibs of his interpretation of the Master and Chibs was like, great but could you take it down a notch, because the Master isn’t on drugs. Could you imagine a more unhinged Master? That could have been epic! 5 episodes was not enough of my little SpyMaster.

Sacha said it’s easy to get caught up in acting and getting jobs but make sure you make time for life because all those lives experiences go into your acting and if you’re so caught up in acting and finding work you’ll miss out on that. Michelle agreed.

Sacha talked about how when he was in Sherlock he was doing a fight scene with Ben and it ended in a pool so there kept having to go to a heat unit between takes and strip down out off the wet clothes and while they were in there talking he told Ben he had audition for the marvel show iron fist and Ben made a phone call and told someone there to make sure they took a look at his tape and he got the job. Then at a convention he saw Ben there so went up and said hi, and they had a quick chat and as he left he say I love you, and Ben said it back but he has no idea why he said it. But obviously they love each other.

Name dropped Ray Holman asking if that was who design Michelle’s costume too, but Michelle just looked at him like ‘I don’t know’ so he didn’t say any more. Lol.

Mentioned that lots of people talk about who came first him or Missy, and this was new information to Michelle’s and she was like ‘really’, and he explained because her arc was a redemption arc some people wanted her incarnation to be the last master.

Sachs’s favourite moment is the O revel, when they did it in rehearsal and the cast and crew got to see how he did it there was such a positive reaction he knew it was something special.

When asked about ad libbing he talked a bit about the fact that the shooting schedule being really hectic so there wasn’t a lot of time.

*The impression I got was that he wasn’t able to do much ad libbing because of the hectic schedule there probably wouldn’t have been time for multiple takes.

When asked about favourite place in NZ Sacha mentioned his trip to Hobbiton but that sadly he was returning home on Tuesday so didn’t have much time to explore.

They both said they would be interested in doing a multi master story together.

They only just met yesterday here in New Zealand when they did a radio interview together

Both were honoured to play the role.

AKA Libertia pulchella, and native iris. Named after Marie-Anne Libert (1782-1865), a Belgian botanist and mycologist, and one of the first women plant pathologists.

Widespread on both islands, but only in forests with high rainfall or near riverbanks. Easily grown from fresh seed and by dividing established plants, and can be grown in pots, but slow growing and moist soil.

The genus is found in South America, Australia, New Guinea, and New Zealand, and eight species are endemic to New Zealand. Many Libertia species are polyploid - some of NZ's species are hexaploid or even dodecaploid. Alas, micrantha is merely diploid, with a chromosome count of 38.

17 January 2024 - I ate some homemade pita for breakfast that Marie had made the night before. I finished packing up my things, and Marie dropped both me and Daniel off at the bus stop. Daniel, totally on his own, volunteered to accompany me to the airport and help me to carry my things. We rode the bus then the train to the airport. Once I checked into my flight, I checked my two big bags, and Daniel said I needed to take a photo in front of the SYD departures sign.

The plane took off at 2:30 pm. The flight was easy, only 3 hours, and NZ is +2 hours time zone from Sydney. So we landed at 7:30 pm. It took a LONG time to get through customs in New Zealand. They're REALLY serious about their biosecurity. I had like 200 g of kangaroo jerky in my bag, so I had to wait in the people-who-declared-meats line, which took over 90 minutes ⌛😡🥱🕑😴. I finally got through biosecurity and caught an Uber to Henderson around 9:40 pm. I arrived at Arnie's house at 10:12 pm. Arnie came out into the driveway and helped me carry my stuff inside. When we walked in, there was a video playing on the TV, it was Bryce Canyon! I pointed at the TV screen and said, "hey, that looks familiar, I've been there!" Arnie had put on a video of Utah scenery just as a welcome to the home! Arnie showed me the house, my room, the laundry, the kitchen, the lounge room, the back porch, the garden (with New Zealand plum trees). Arnie showed me photos of Piha (where the canyon is) that he took, and he showed me photos from the AWOL canyoning website. We chatted about Arnie's history, how he worked in Australia for 35 years, but came back to help out his parents who are in their 80s. We ate strawberries and plums while sitting on the back porch. Tomorrow, I'm going to meet our other housemate, Jimmy. And likely, I'm going to meet our neighbor, Mitch, who's an 80-something retired policeman/tour guide/security and has A LOT of stories to share. He offered me sausages that he'd grilled earlier that evening. I just get good vibes so far. Arnie seems like an outgoing extrovert. I think we're going to get along 😊.

I know you read on the BRF, but I was taken aback when I saw QE2's 3rd cousin, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, announce today she'll abdicate in favor of Crown Prince Frederik. The timing seems a bit suspicious considering Frederik was in the news about a month ago for possibly cheating on Mary with a Spanish socialite— then Mary took off alone with the kids to AUS and NZ for the early part of December before posting a msg on social media about loneliness and sadness during the holidays. Ouch.

I was shocked by that announcement as well. The timing is suspicious. I believe that Queen Margrethe has had quite a few health issues lately, so I am hoping this is not health related. There are wild rumours flying about as to why she is abdicating. I want it to be just because she wants to enjoy some peaceful years without the pressure of state issues at the end of her life, but who knows?
