Since there have been Two of My Favorite Cartoons involving around Sea Cultures around my Life, I felt like wanting to draw Two Fictional Mermaid Characters (One, a Canon One, and the Other, an Fan Interpertation/OC) as their own Main Inspirations that are indeed both based upon one of the Greatest FairyTales ever written by one of the Famous Fairyteller themselves (Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid").
From Left to Right we have is Marina from "Zig and Sharko" as Ariel (Disney's version) and Salacia (My Version) as Marina (Toei's version). I wanted to draw these two together while being dressed as a mashup to their FairyTale Adaptation Counterparts since it felt very inspiring that not only did I base Salacia off the Goddess of the Same Name, but also to an Anime Character from one of the Obscured Adaptations out there, which tend to remind Me so much of Another Mermaid character who was also inspired by the Pop Culture version of the Said Fairy Tale.
For those who are curious to know what "Zig and Sharko" is (or at least have never really had watched it before), it's basically a French Slapstick Cartoon about a Hungry Hyena who wants to eat a Mermaid, only the problem is, the Hyena can't have the Mermaid as his lunch, so the Mermaid's Boyfriend (who is a Great White Shark) protects his Mermaid Girlfriend from the Hyena predator who wants to Eat Her. It's made by the Same Company that did "Oggy and the Cockroaches" and "Space Goofs" (Xilam).
As someone who loves watching Foreign Animated Films, I also have a soft spot for Foreign Animated Shows besides than Anime. Not that any other obscure cartoon also had slapstick, but also perhaps Story-Driven like the Ginga anime series. I'm sure there are people out there who have seen Other Adaptations of The Little Mermaid like Me but whenever people tend to hear, "The Little Mermaid", you can only think of the Disney version since the Other Adaptations are just hardly-known (which is sad, to say the least).
So a little fun-fact about my version of Salacia of what you folks didn't know, my own interpertation of Her in the World of the Wacky Adventures of the Silly Sponge is losely inspired by the Character, Marina from The Anime Adaptation of "The Little Mermaid" (which came out around in the 70s long before Disney's take in the 80s). Funny enough, not only did I based my own design on Salacia off Toei's version of one of Hans' lead characters but I also borrowed the Personality in terms of Character Potrayal Similarites. So much like Z&S's Marina being a Parody Character of one of the Famous Disney Princesses, My Salacia is also a Parody of a Non-Disney Princess (who is Another Adaptation of the Same Story). Quite satisfying fact, hence, why I drew Salacia with that Other Mermaid Character.
For those who are curious about the Two "Marinas", I'll give ya the links to know about the Foreign Spoof version and even the Other Foreign Adaptation in case if you never seen any of them before;

OK, let's go, many ask me what a QPRs relationship is, so my translator is difficult (google) I'll summarize it here in one sentence: Let's go to a relationship that is outside the vision of cisheteronorthativeness to a relationship of let's explore beyond the limits of friendship traditional romance and sexuality. That's what a QPR relationship is like, they live as if they were a couple, but without kissing (if the couple agrees) like we're going to live together, we're going to watch movies hugging each other, and we're going to have a pet, we're going to go out together, we're going to do everything together, without romantic or sexual intention, generally aromantic and asexual people live in this relationship.
SCP 076 and SCP 2396 are not a ship in the fancanon they live in a relationship QPRs in Brazil are not as talked about as they are in Europe and the USA, obviously if you want to add something you can add I'm new to this.
Below there is a link to a film that explains this relationship and on the amino where I am, many followers asked to put this relationship in the fancanon.
In STEVE UNIVERSO this relationship is discussed QPRS and lapis and peridot, peridot is confirmed as aromantic, another drawing that shows this relationship (my theory) and Sharko and Marina (Zig and sharko), so if you have any doubts and just look for me, send me on ask .

This will be an omega spoiler, but this is an edit I made for a future sequel to Dreams Come True. It'll be just as weird, just as heartfelt, and just as chaotic.
Likes and reblogs are appreciated!

"Zig and Sharko," a French cartoon
Marina the mermaid appears to be a spoof of Ariel, with most of the colors just tinted. Her sisters are also pretty clearly based on Ariel's sisters, especially that one in the middle.
I made the gif.

This was me, drawing a pic of what, at the time, had become a new obsession of mine, a French cartoon called "Zig and Sharko", which I'd drawn in my Danny Phantom style (the show itself, having a bit of a DP art style going on). The basic gist of the series revolves around a mermaid named Marina, who spends a lot of her time just hanging out by this island, where a hyena named Zig lives. Day after day, Zig can think of nothing else but trying to find ways to EAT Marina. Zig's problem...Marina just happens to have a pet shark. I caught this show on Netflix recently. Not being a big fan of French cartoons, my first reaction was naturally to just pass it by. But eventually, my curiosity shouted down my better judgement and I gave it a look. And for some reason, I was HOOKED. And even now, I still don't know why. I mean, on its face, the concept just SHOULDN'T work. But the presentation just hits all the right notes. Essentially, the series takes a lot of cues from classic silent cartoon shorts of the day (even the classic Warner Bros. and Disney shorts). There is no dialogue in this series. Any time someone does speak, it's either through sound effects or nonsensical babbling. Which is probably one of the things that makes this series work as well as it does. Since the point of the show is simply to watch the wacky events as they unfold, trying to accompany it with witty dialogue would only get in the way. It's amazing how this series can keep coming up with ways for Sharko to pummel Zig and still make it seem fresh every time (few things are more amusing that watching Zig smash into something and then just blurt out, "EEK!"). But truly, the glue that holds this series together has GOT to be Marina, who is fascinating as this instantly likable character that can turn the world on with her smile, yet whose brief moments of sadness can just as easily break your heart. She is also infinitely complex, yet gloriously simple. When we're first introduced to her, she really doesn't appear to be all that bright (although, since this is predominantly a silent cartoon, it's not as if we need her quoting Aristotle or Nitsche, here). But over time, you quickly discover that she does, indeed, have a brain in her head. She just doesn't go out of her way to turn it on unless she HAS to. And then we come to Bernie, the Hermit Crab, who is definitely the odd man out of this bunch. On the surface, Bernie is Zig's best friend and often serves as his sidekick in his efforts to put Marina on his dinner table. But behind the big baby eyes and impish squeaks lurks the mind of a genius, who will often be seen indulging in his own little side projects whenever he can manage to tear himself away from Zig. Of course, not all of his projects turn out the way he'd prefer, either. Well, that's the basic gist of the show. If you can, I definitely recommend you check it out. At roughly seven minutes per short, it doesn't take much out of your day. And besides Netflix (as well as certain Nickelodeon and Disney Channel stations), you can also catch several of the shorts on Youtube. Like I say, don't judge this series by its concept. It's the presentation that make this work. In the meantime, though, I hope you enjoy this pic. ^_^
