I am on The Sontaran Stratagem in my rewatch and Martha just gave that warning to Donna that letting the Doctor close endangered and hurt her family. That he's like fire and she has to be careful.

Donna did get burned by being close to him. It's interesting how literally they brought the phrasing back, saying she was going to burn up completely if she remembered. And the Doctor took those memories against her wishes, leaving her with years upon years of feeling like something vital was missing, despite an otherwise lovely life, and in complete ignorance of the difference she'd made in the universe and to this one sad wet puppy Martian Time Lord.

But when she's back to herself, there's not a sign that she regrets anything. Except donating the lottery money. But knowing the Doctor, having him as her best friend? She doesn't hold a thing against him, not even the memory wipe. (Which I think is kind of a wash, as in she doesn't approve of him ignoring her protests but it got her Rose and her second chance with the Doctor so she wouldn't change that. I... would like to see that conversation re: bodily autonomy though.)

She'd do every bit of it again and it shows: from her willingness to follow him into danger even without her memory right down to going on another adventure with him and wrapping him right into her family. Not just letting him near them, but making it clear that it doesn't matter how long they were parted, he is a vital part of that family.

Donna got burned and decided the Doctor was worth it. That there was still so much more good to be found in them than risk or danger. She may have decided staying with the Doctor was worth whatever happened that very moment Martha warned her.

So like I miiiightttt have started to ship Ten and Martha? Like I rewatched a couple of eps and they have such good chemistry (Also like imagine the power couple potential if he hadn't been so hung up over Rose and constantly compared her with him)

"i don't think you meant to hurt me, 'cause i don't think it meant a thing at all to you" is def how martha feels about her time with the doctor, like at the end of the day i don't think she believes she was more than just a blip in the doctor's story. seeing how important rose was and how important donna is to ten, she just. doesn't think she meant what they do/did.

ah the potential. i love a good - "there is no rational explanation for this" trope in a show that is staunchly "there IS a rational explanation for this." scooby doo was great at that.

so, i wish we could have gotten that in 'the shakespeare code,' especially coming off the back of the doctor obviously being scientifically minded, something he also has in common with martha. in fact, it's the very thing that attracts him to her in the first place. i'd have liked martha to get the last laugh and prove the doctor wrong as he eye-rolls away the possibility of real witchcraft only to confronted with the actual thing. it could have been really fun.

imagine, because if we are able to do a 'who really knows' with the satan pit (it clearly was satan doctor don't kid yourself) we could have done the same with the witches. im just saying. would have been an interesting theme to keep with with martha at first refusing to call the doctor 'the doctor' and then him being confronted with the fact that maybe he won't always get a logical explanation, have him continually have his worldview challenged, shake up the status quo a lil bit. power of words!

I love this little special! It was the first time I had seen a Doctor from Classic Who when I was little! And from then I was obsessed, I tried to find out as much as I possibly could about Classic Who, including memorising every Doctor and their actor, annnd all the companions in order. I was a little nerd okay. But anyways, this short, I love it, it's so fun and I could tell David Tennant loved telling Peter Davison that he was his Doctor. When I watched this it was like I craved the idea of more Doctor's meeting.
