1. Aïcha by Khaled

Khaled is an Algerian raï singer and his voice in this is spectacular (definitely listen to the French-Arabic version). He’s singing about a beautiful woman who walks past him as if he does not exist, and he offers her jewels, gold, poems, songs, everything - and she’s like “keep your treasures, all I want is to have the same rights as you”

2. Alexandra Leaving by Leonard Cohen

This is based on the C. P. Cavafy poem ‘The God Abandons Antony’ (which is also the inspiration for one of my favourite Miss Fisher fics): “Say goodbye to Alexandra leaving/ Then say goodbye to Alexandra lost”.

3. Isis by Bob Dylan

A classic Dylan story song! The Rolling Thunder Revue live versions are far weirder and more thrilling than the album recording. I listen to it every year on the fifth day of May, in the drizzling rain.

2022

Wah saya terlalu sibuk ya akhir tahun ini, sampai tiba - tiba udah tanggal 31 Desember aja. Sepertinya rekap tahun ini akan gue buat per-event yang terjadi aja deh, karena kalo di breakdown perbulan, berdasarkan archieve story gua isi perbulannya cuma gue main sama Ropik aja tiap bulan HAHAHAHA. Jadi biar lebih berbobot kita breakdown per-event aja geys.

Di tahun 2022 ini kalo bisa di rangkum secara general apa yah, mungkin jatuhnya mirip sama 2020, semua serba tiba - tiba. Tapi yang membedakan 2020 dan 2022 adalah tahun ini kata “tiba - tiba” muncul karena Vindes dan ini jadi relate aja di hidup gue selama 1 tahun ke belakang ini. Ya dari pada tangan gue mengetik semakin tidak jelas, mari langsung ke inti tahun ini

Bandung Part 1 

Jadi sebenernya trip ini terjadi karena kita mau ngelayat. Berawal dari tengah malam dengar kabar duka, lalu gue udah lumayan galau apakah untuk berangkat atau engga, pengen berangkat tapi gak ada mobil. Akhirnya gue memberanikan diri untuk nanya ke Nugi. Long story short, akhirnya gue jadi berangkat. Karena dibagi ke 3 grup mobil, gue berangkat dari Halim, jadi gue ke rumah Ropik dulu, berangkat pagi, titik ketemunya ada di Rest Area KM 88 alias Ciganea. Berangkat total ber-13, tapi dari seluruh warga yang ikut pergi, engga ada 1 orang pun yang tidur malem sebelumnya. Mukanya bentuknya udah kayak zombie lagi jalan semua. Sampai di Bandung langsung ngelayat. Nah yang tadi udah gue bilang, karena semua belum ada yang tidur, langsung temen gue booking hotel untuk kita semua istirahat. Mulai masuk kamar sampai jam 6 sore sih saya hilang ya jujur, karena tidak kuat menahan ngantuk, udah gak peduli lagi apa yang ada di sekitar, sebelah saya kelas dulu juga saya gak peduli. Akhirnya setelah pada tepar semua, memutuskan untuk kembali ke rumah Kak Diki dengan niat ikutan “pengajian” ya tapi mohon dimaklumi, warga warga yang sebanyak 13 orang ini kan hidupnya isinya komedi ya, harap maklum aja lah. Habis dari situ, kita makan malam, terus kita balik ke hotel lagi buat istirahat sebentar sebelum pada akhirnya kita pulang lagi.

Manager “Talent”

HAHAHAHA lucu ya judul part ini. Jujur ini adalah hal terlucu selama 2022, it happen so fast, dan turns out lucu aja dalam hidup. Jadi berawal dari 1 hari di bulan puasa, gue engga tau apa yang terjadi malam itu, kesambet apa dan gimana ceritanya, pokoknya dari tengah malem gue di dc sama Ropik, ngobrol - ngobrol terus masing - masing sahur kan, beres sahur, Ropik balik - balik ngomong gini

“Kenapa gak lu aja ya Bil jadi manager gua?”

BENTAR. Bingung kan lu yang baca? Gak lu doang kok, gue saat ditodong kayak gitu, reaksi gue cuma ketawa. Saking bingungnya gue harus merespon apa, bener - bener yang keluar dari mulut gue cuma ketawa. Tapi entah kenapa, gue tuh mengiyakan omongan Ropik hari itu juga. Gue kayak bingung seribu bingung. Long story short, akhirnya obrolan itu bener - bener jadi kenyataan. Berawal dari nongkrong di satu cafe, terus Ropik cerita lah dia pengen kalo live music disitu, tapi kayak itu cuma obrolan hari itu. Di hari yang berbeda, kita balik lagi ke cafe itu, dan terjadilah conversation antara gue dan staff cafe itu. Another long story short tapi ujung - ujungnya gak jadi di cafe itu, akhirnya di satu tempat kenalan Mas Zakky. Nungguin konfirmasinya, nungguin negonya, nungguin persiapannya lama bgt, kalo di total dari ngasih offer pertama sampai akhirnya deal itu ada sebulan. Pas udah mau check alat, ini bener - bener riweh, perkara kagak bawa alat cuma bawa badan, terus minggu depannya cuma satu yang dateng, ada aja hidupnya. Sampailah kepada day 1 mereka perform, Ropik pairingan sama Cepan. Dari h-1 hari pertama mereka main, gua juga ikutan degdegan, kayak takut ini lah takut itu lah, tapi gue tau anak - anak gue yang 2 itu pasti bisa ngelakuin apapun rintangan yang terjadi, dan bener! Day 1 berjalan dengan baik walaupun masih ada bebebrapa kekurangan. Hari terus berjalan, tiap minggu terus perform, di bulan ke tiga mau masuk bulan ke-empat, kita harus udahan karena satu dan lain hal. Tapi it was a very good memory. Nungguin anak - anak itu perform, nemenin anak - anak itu perform, make sure anak - anak itu ngasih yang terbaik. Selama 3 bulan gonta ganti personil, sampai yang awalnya gue managerin Ropik, sampai akhirnya gue gatau gue managerin siapa, semua gue managerin HAHAHA.

Persepupuan

Dulu ketika gue kecil, gue selalu punya pertanyaan di kepala gue, kenapa bude bude dan pakde pakde ini yang notabenenya sepupu juga, terkhusus keluarga nyokap kandung gue, kenapa mereka bisa sangat dekat dan sangat akrab, meanwhile ya persepupuan di angkatan gue ya gitu - gitu aja, ngobrol mah ngobrol, tapi ya jarang aja untuk ada kegiatan diluar lebaran. Tapi di tahun 2022 ini, omongan gue terjawab semua. Mulai tahun ini, gue semakin sering untuk pergi - pergi sama sepupu gue. Mulai sering nginep - nginep lagi kayak waktu kecil. Makin sering ngobrol dan makin deket.

Bener - bener jadi tempat ternyaman gue untuk menjadi seorang Nabil. Mereka - mereka ini yang bisa menjadikan kalimat “Family come first” bisa terealisasikan dalam hidup gue. Engga pernah malu ngomongin apa yang dirasa ataupun apa yang lagi dialamin. Beberapa kali juga gue yang mengajak mereka, ya walaupun gak jarang juga gue cuma jadi silent reader. Ya mau pergi seharian juga, aku tim hayu kalo sama mereka. Sampai pernah gue terlintas di kepala gue, kalo misalnya suatu hari nanti, gue punya pacar ataupun gue punya pasangan, apa reaksi manusia - manusia ini yang sudah mengenal gue dari kecil terhadap orang ini. Wah udah takutnya dari sekarang deh, takut mereka gak srek lah, ini lah, itu lah. Ya semoga siapapun nanti pasangan gue, dia bisa fit in di sepupu sepupu gue.

Cianjur

Gue tahun ini beberapa kali dikasih kesempatan, di ajak sama Bu Tutuk dan Pak Henky untuk ke Cianjur. Seneng banget akhirnya gue bisa ke Cianjur lagi setelah 2 tahun gak bisa ke Cianjur karena pandemi. Awal tahun sempet BM banyak banget makanan dari Cianjur, tapi sempet bingung gimana harus realisasiinnya. Pas gue diajak sama Bu Tutuk sama Pak Henky, 3 dari 5/6 BM gue terealisasikan, gue makan hanjawar, gemblong Bu Juju, dan yang tidak boleh ketinggalan adalah batagor kuah deket Wisma Sinar Kasih, best of the best. Terus seneng banget akhirnya bisa jalan - jalan lagi di Cianjur, kayak setengah dari jiwa gue tuh ketinggalan di Cianjur, bener - bener seneng banget pas gue ke Cianjur. Ngelewatin Pasar Cipanas, ngelewatin Istana, ngelewatin Wisma Sinar Kasih, wah banyak bgt deh memori gue disana. Seneng banget huehuehehe.

Pestapora 2022

Akhirnya setelah 2 tahun tidak ada music festival, akhirnya ada lagi. Ya Allah sebagai anak festival sejak kelas 6, gue seneng banget akhirnya bisa dateng ke music festival lagi. Sempet insane banget karena 2 tahun engga ada music festival, bener - bener kayak ada yang kurang dari hidup gue. Karena dulu setiap tahun sebelum pandemi, pasti minimal gue dateng ke 1 music festival to keep me sane. Mau nonton sama siapa, itu urusan belakangan, tapi dateng ke music festival bener - bener ngecharge energi gue banget. Sampai pada suatu hari gue liat line up nya Pestapora, gue bener - bener tercengang karena bagus banget, dan bener - bener banyak yang gue suka, langsung kepikiran buat nonton. Tapi ternyata gue ketinggalan untuk beli phase 1 tiketnya, akhirnya gue war tiket di phase 2, menurut gue udah lumayan mahal ya at that moment. Cuma gue gambling aja lah. Sampai di hari penukaran tiket, gue udah ngejak ribut vendor ticketingnya Pestapora, gara - gara gue mau reschedule, mereka bilang gak bisa, tapi emang ini acara gambling bgt di hidup gue, akhirnya gue memberanikan diri untuk dateng diluar schedulenya, guess what? Emang panitia Pestapora top bgt deh, 10 menit jadi tiket fisik. Keren banget dehm ini kagum pertama gue buat Pestapora.

Day 1 Pestapora

Jadi di hari itu, gue sempat berduka, jadi gue lumayan kurang istirahat, gue sampai bawa bekel buat makan siang, karena gue dari pagi muter ngiter kesana kemari. Jalur gue waktu itu, dari rumah ke makam ke perpus cikini baru terakhir ke JIEXPO. Sampai JIEXPO gue pikir, gue udah telat, karena gue ngeliat antrian panjang banget, ternyata yang gue liat, itu antrian penukaran tiket. Since gue udah tuker tiket, akhirnya gue langsung antri masuk, pas udah selesai wristband check sama body check, masuk ke area Pestapora, gue langsung takjub sama semuanya, kagum banget sama semuanya. Bener - bener seneng banget. First thing first gue adalah mencari booth Vindes, karena emang mau liat - liat merch, tapi karena masih galau, jadi cuma liat doang. Langsung ke stage pertama, datengin stage nya Hivi. Karena udah 2 tahun engga dateng ke music festival kayaknya badan gue kaku lagi deh, kayak malu malu aja mau gerak ataupun joget dan shocking momentnya adalah suara gue bener - bener engga keluar, gak bisa teriak sama sekali. Walaupun begitu, gue tetep bisa menikmati show itu. Yang udah gue state di awal, gue bener - bener ngerecharge energi gue. Selesai nonton Hivi, gue cari minum dan gue cari yang bisa gue cemil, tapi ternyata engga dapet cemilan apapun. Terus gue ngelanjutin nonton Raisa. Ini orang emang keren sedari dulu ya, dari album pertama sampai album paling terakhir emang live nya selalu keren. Salah satu moment gue tercengang di show time nya Raisa adalah bassist nya dia, bener - bener main solonya keren banget. Habis nonton Raisa, lanjut nonton The Adams, karena mereka jadwalnya dempet dan di satu panggung yang sama. Ya walaupun saya udah capek detik itu, tapi akhirnya suara gue yang tadi gue bilang gak keluar, akhirnya bisa teriak - teriak lagi. Bener - bener Nabil kalo dateng ke music festival sebelum pandemi kembali di Pestapora 2022 di panggungnya The Adams. Selesai nonton The Adams, karena gue udah capek bgt, kurang istirahat dari malem sebelumnya, gue memutuskan untuk pulang duluan. Gue sampai di rumah definisi tepar. Gue ngeskip day 2 karena engga ada artis yang bener - bener pengen banget gue tonton.

Day 3 Pestapora

Loncat ke day 3. Gue berangkat agak telat karena gue jadi joki tugas orang. Pas udah nyadar gue telat, gue buru - buru berangkat ke JIEXPO, karena gue mau ngejar Maliq & D’Essentials, gue ketinggalan beberapa lagu, tapi setidaknya lagu - lagu hits yang biasa ada di playlist gue engga ketinggalan. Seneng banget udah lama gak nonton live Maliq, akhirnya nonton lagi, terakhir nonton pas POL 2019. Beres nonton Maliq, gue udah gak pengen nonton apa - apa lagi, cuma gue mau nyimpen tenaga, jadi gue cuma duduk di pinggiran Boss Stage, karena gue nungguin Tribute to Koes Plus by Vindes + Endah n Rhessa. Pas Vindes udah mau manggung, gue udah mulai maju, karena gue mau nonton Vincent. Untuk pertama kalinya gue melihat Vincent. Pas mereka udah naik panggung, yak, saya star struck banget ngeliat Vincent. Mana dari view gue ke arah Vincent bener - bener clear, gak kehalangan kepala orang. Gue kan emang berdarah bassist dari nyokap, jadi gue suka kagum sama orang main bass, ditambah lagi orangnya Vincent, jadi gue makin star struck. Moment gue sadar gue star struck sama Vincent adalah gue nonton music festival, gue bengong mengagumi cara bermainnya Vincent. Shit brow. Tapi seneng karena bisa sing along dan ngeliat Vindes + Andre Taulany ngelawak at the same time, kayak kapan lagi:”) Beres nonton Vindes, geser ke panggung sebelah soalnya ada Oom Leo. Kan tema Oom Leo di Pestapora lagu anak ya, guess who yang dia ajak collab hari itu? Ucok Baba and friend. EPIC BGT KAN!!! HAHAHAHA Tapi sambil nonton Oom Leo, gue juga sambilan nonton Nassar, karena vibes nya bener - bener seru. Beres itu gue nonton Tulus. Ini juga memang selalu keren sejak awal. Dan akhirnya gue kesampaian buat sing along album baru dia. Hehehehe. Ya pokoknya intinya gue seneng banget nonton Pestapora, selain rapi, bersih, keren, ya paket komplit lah.

LANY: A November to Remember 2022

Ini salah satu konser yang gue tunggu - tunggu. Karena emang sejak tahun lalu, gue suka banget dengerin Lany. Lagi bener - bener sehari - hari banget dengerin Lany sampai bosen banget lah. Pas udah mulai deket - deket konsernya Lany, gue sebenernya udah mulai galau, karena disaat itu gue udah mulai bekerja, posisinya gue baru 1 bulan bekerja, gue bingung gimana caranya gue bisa kerja tapi gue juga bisa nonton konser malemnya. Gue bener -  bener puter otak banget. H-7 gue kepikiran buat jual aja apa ya ini tiket, karena biasanya pulang kantor gue bener - bener tepar, gak kuat buat ngapa ngapain lagi. Tapi kok pas gue buka twitter, orang jual tiket, engga ada yang laku. Galau banget deh. Long story short akhirnya gue memutuskan untuk tetep nonton. Pas udah hari H, gue bangun jam 4, mandi, beres mandi gue memaksa untuk tidur dulu. karena gue tau gue bakal capek bgt. Jam 6 kurang gue udah berangkat, jam 7 udah mulai kerja sampai jam setengah 5. Beres kerja gue langsung otw venue, pas udah di venue, gue langsung berusaha untuk merem bentar buat istirahat. Pas udah open gate, gue berdiri, gatau kenapa gue sedikit menyesali keberadaan gue di venue, belum mulai aja gue udah bener - bener capek, dan udah gak punya tenaga. Untungnya lagu yang lagi sering - seringnya gue puter jadi lagu openingnya. Dan bener, sesuai dugaan, tengah - tengah konser, gue memutuskan untuk ke pinggir, dan gue nonton sambil duduk. Karena gue udah bener - bener gak punya tenaga, dan udah pusing banget. Pas gue udah pulang dan sampai rumah, gue langsung tidur, dan besoknya ngerasa kurang tidur bgt.

Tiba - Tiba Tenis by Vindes

Nah ini nih yang gue singgung dari awal. Ini yang ngebuat hidup gue jadi serba tiba - tiba. Jadi sebelum ini TTT di umumin, gue udah tau duluan bakalan ada Vindes Sport cabang tennis salah satu playernya Gading Martin karena gue ikutan salah satu seminarnya saker di Binus. Jadi makanya waktu itu gue bener - bener nungguin banget. Ternyata main artist nya yang jadi lawannya Desta adalah Raffi Ahmad. Pas pertama kali di umumin, gue janjian sama Novi, karena dia yang gue tau emang mau nonton dan minta saling kabarin. Terus pas udah h-1 jual tiket, gue iseng aje lagi rapat kita telfon temen kita yang namanya Ropik, iseng aje, eh mau HAHAHAHA. Terus kalo ngebaca ketentuan beli tiketnya Vindes, gue juga gak bisa nitip ke Novi karena mereka berempat, gue berdua, jadi gue mesti fight sendiri. Pas hari H war tiket, buseeeeeeeet ternyata ya lawan Vivin Dedes, ampooooon, gak sanggup brow. Gue udah mau nyerah aja tuh tadinya, eh pas 7.40an deh kalo gak salah gue tiba - tiba dapet tiket buat 2 orang. Tadinya gue pengen buat ambil tiket yang “Di Bawah Nih Ye” tapi apalah daya tangan sat set sat set nya Vivin Dedes memaksa gue untuk dapet tiket “Di Atas Nih Ye” yaudah lah gapapa. Pas udah pengumuman sold out, gue mikir ya, lah kenapa gue jadinya nonton sama yang menadadak sedangkan sama yang janjian dari jauh - jauh hari gak jadi. Long story short, akhirnya hari H nih, gue di jemput Ropik sampai di venue kalo gak salah setengah 7 an lah. Pas udah di venue, kita gak langsung masuk, duduk duduk dulu di luar, gue beli minum, Ropik ngerokok. Pas udah denger orang nyanyi Indonesia Raya kita baru masuk. Awalnya gue lumayan sebel, karena gue hampir engga kebagian tempat duduk karena emang udah full semua, kayak gue mikirnya kok bisa - bisanya tiket yang di jual kelebihan, tapi akhirnya gue dapet tempat duduk yang harusnya di pakai buat invitation. Tapi gue gak nyesel juga sih dapet tiket “Di bawah nih ye” karena ternyata juga sedeket itu. Masih jelas banget hue hue hue. Tapi yang bikin senengnya adalah, tempat gue duduk deket banget sama tempat komentator, jadi gue bisa ngeliat semua kelakuan Vincent yang gak tayang on air, banyak bgt yang gue videoin HAHAHHA. Walaupun gue dan Ropik sama - sama jadi dongo nonton tennis.

Ulang tahun ke 25

Gue lumayan sebel sama ulang tahun gue tahun ini, karena gue sakit tepat di hari ulang tahun gue. Gue stress gak sembuh - sembuh, padahal gue mau banget ngerayain ulang tahun. Akhirnya perayaan ulang tahun gue mundur 2 minggu. Sedih banget kan? Asli. Gue sampai nangis - nangis selama gue sakit, karena gue sedih banget mau banget ngerayain ulang tahun. Tanggal 8 Desember, gue pulang kantor ketemuan sama Abie, berniat untuk tuker kado. Karena kita sama - sama habis ulang tahun. HAHA gemes banget setelah sekian lama temenan, baru sekarang tukeran kado, lucu banget sumpah. Kayak gue gak expect kado itu dateng dari Abie. Gemes aja. Dan reason beliin gue kadonya karena dulu jaman gue kuliah, gue pake jaket warna hitam yang itu itu aja, padahal outer gue ada yang lain, tapi kalo lagi pake kaos gue pake jaket itu. Dan pada akhirnya jaket itu bener - bener kepake di hidup gue karena gue lagi sering - seringnya naik gojek dan sekarang lagi musim hujan, kepake banget kan? Maaci brow.

Tanggal 11, akhirnya gue birthday dinner. Ini gue udah siapin dari sebelum sakit. Gue udah galau banget mau makan dimana, gue udah mulai survey mau makan dimana. Dari mulai mau makan ayce seafood, mau makan Gion, mau makan di Satoo, pada akhirnya pilihan gue jatuh kepada Cork & Screw yang di Senayan. Asli, gue tidak jadi menyesal karena gak makan di Satoo, karena bener - bener worth it. Tempatnya oke, makanannya oke, quality of conversationnya juga menyenangkan! Akhirnya gue pergi berempat, sama Ropik, Cepan dan ceweknya. Terima kasih Kay atas rekomendasi tempatnya. Sebenernya udah dari lama gue liat tempat ini, tapi gue gak ada minatan untuk kesini sih, kalo engga gara - gara ulang tahun.

Bandung Trip part 2

Jadi dari lama sebenernya A Ijul ngajakin gue buat ke Bandung bareng Ropik, cuma belum tau kapan, karena gue nya sibuk kerja Ropiknya juga kuliah. Sampai pada akhirnya kita mendengar kabar kalo A Ijul mau pindah ke luar negeri, akhirnya gue ngobrol sama Ropik yang memutuskan untuk harus bgt kita ke Bandung, ada sesuatu yang harus kita cari. Pilihan awal tanggal keberangkatan jatuh kepada tanggal 23 Desember, tapi karena satu dan lain hal, gue gak bisa buat berangkat di tanggal 23. Akhirnya kita majuin ke tanggal 17, tapi tetep gagal, kali ini gantian Ropik yang gak bisa. Akhirnya kita memutuskan untuk berangkat tanggal 24. Selama dari tanggal 19 - 23 Desember, gue kerja dan tensionnya bener - bener tinggi, pokoknya minggu itu selain kerjaan bener - bener gak kepegang deh minggu itu. Akhirnya pas hari jumat, gue nge imes Ropik, gue bilang 24 apapun yang terjadi kita harus berangkat, karena kepala gue udah mau meledak. Gue juga ngajak Ose, karena emang Ose pengen ke Bandung juga.

Pas hari H, Ose udah otw rumah gue, tapi temen gue yang satu itu, minta di bangunin tapi HP nya mati. Pas Ose sampai di rumah gue, tanpa pikir panjang gue langsung berangkat aja, karena gue bingung harus bangunin Ropik kayak apa, niatnya mau gue gedor. Di tengah jalan, anaknya bangun ngabarin gue. Pas udah sampai rumahnya Ropik, sambil nungguin dia mandi, gue mainan sama Yupi Cemen alias kucingnya Ropik. Beres siap - siap, akhirnya kita berangkat, karena kita udah kelaperan, kita mampir dulu ke rest area. Ngelanjutin lagi perjalanan, sampai di Bandung, langsung jemput A Ijul. Habis itu langsung ke Kisah Manis, disana banyak ngobrol, quality timenya banyak banget. Terus kita disusul sama Kak Diki yang baru beres streaming. Karena saya udah laper, akhirnya ngajak pergi makan, dan keputusannya akhirnya makan Oharang. Enak brow, tapi mohon maap rahang saya pegel, yang dipesen total total ada kali 70 porsian, dan bener - bener abis ludes. Makan berlima udah kayak makan sekampung. Beres makan balik lagi deh Jakarta. Ngobrol dari berangkat sampai balik lagi ke rumah. Makasih ya teman - teman Bandung trip ku.

Splintered Halo ‘Nightmares, Legends & Gore’

I urge you to wrap your ears around the audio treat that is, ‘Nightmares, Legends & Gore’, the second album from character metal band, Splintered Halo; a dark, musical tapestry woven from multiple genres, telling the tales of a range of prominent female characters from history and fiction: women from legends, history and pop culture.  Splintered Halo lend their instruments and voices to entrance the listener with these stories.

I was immediately won over by the blend of diverse genres and world sounds which intersect to create songs as unique and intriguing as the characters themselves, truly a wonderfully engaging piece of creative magic. So impressive that it has prompted me to write my first album review in two years. 

My awareness of Splintered Halo spans back to 8th December 2017 when, whilst waiting for Courtesans to take to the stage and debut the video for their latest release ‘Genius’.  During the opening set by Megalomatic I glimpsed a couple of masked characters towards the rear of the ‘Hellfire Club’ venue in Glasgow.  They, Splintered Halo, subsequently arrived on stage as the second supporting band.  Discussing my activities, the following week, on air, with another presenter at TD1 Radio proved a tad awkward as he is a minister at a local church, and he seemed a bit put out by the band’s name.  Nevertheless, that first experience of the band performing really impressed me and it has been a pleasure to follow their progress over the ensuing years.  Back then in 2017 the band’s USP was as a band fronted by a strong female supported by a number of anonymous musicians all wearing the same masks.  The intervening years has seen these seemingly identical anonymous band members become discreet entities.  That leads us now to 2023 when band leader Evilyn Van Der Hyden is now supported by discreet characters, Pumpkinhead provides soaring guitar licks and singing tones, Sawtooth brings the chugga chugga and tasty riffage, The Harbinger, has the power to destroy worlds at her fingertips as she brings complex and meaty bass riffs finger style and the band’s drum Demoness, Hellequin adds  double kick darkness.

This album presents a wonderful plethora of musical genres with lyrics that feature the appropriate first track, but don’t expect the obvious, ‘The First Woman’ is about Lilith, who came before Eve, and refused to bend the knee to Adam.  Track two is ‘The Curse Of Medusa’.  Medusa is generally described as a human female with living venomous snakes in place of hair; those who gazed into her eyeswould turn to stone.  Next is ‘Queen Of The Nile’ concerning Isis a major goddess in ancient Egyptian religion.  She was first mentioned as one of the main characters of the Osiris myth, in which she resurrects her slain brother and husband, the divine king Osiris, and produces and protects his heir, Horus. She was believed to help the dead enter the afterlife as she had helped Osiris, and she was considered the divine mother of the pharaoh, who was likened to Horus.  The following tracks delve into Norse mythology with ‘Go Home To Valhalla’, Japanese horror culture with ‘Ju-on’.  Then comes ‘Bride Of Frankenstein’ based around the fictional character first introduced in Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus and later in the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein. In the film, the bride is played by Elsa Lanchester. The character's design in the film features a conical hairdo with white lightning-trace streaks on each side, which has become an iconic symbol of both the character and the film.  ‘You Died’ and ‘Ode To Odette’ progress the selection to the penultimate ‘Hansel and Gretel’ based on the classic German fairy tale.  Hansel and Gretel are siblings who are abandoned in a forest and fall into the hands of a witch who lives in a gingerbread, cake, and candy house.  The final track, ‘The Last Queen Of Scotland’, features the real life historical Scottish character who has fascinated me for many years, having visited many Scottish locations associated with her since my youth.  After eighteen and a half years in captivity, Mary was found guilty of plotting to assassinate Elizabeth in 1586 and was beheaded the following year at Fotheringhay Castle, one location that I have still to visit (relatively close to where Mad Wasp Radio is based).

We recently had our grand daughter stay over to help us decorate the house/garden for Halloween.  Later, when we got into the car and music started to play, she remarked that it was very appropriate – I’m not sure what prompted her remark, it might have been hearing the music or seeing the track details on the car display which showed my preview copy of Splintered Halo’s ‘Nightmares, Legends & Gore’.

Nah, buat kalian ada baiknya simak pernyataan dari Asosiasi Promotor Musik Indonesia (APMI) ini. APMI  mengajak khalayak untuk mencermati tidak hanya para penampil dalam sebuah festival atau acara music. Tapi juga promotor agar terhindar dari kerugian semisal uang tidak kembali ketika acara batal. "Semua balik lagi ke audiens, tidak hanya pintar memilih siapa atau apa isi acara. Namun juga bisa melakukan profiling siapa pembuat acara tersebut," kata Ketua APMI, Dino Hamid, seperti dikutip Turisian.com dari Antaranews,  Kamis 23 Februari 2023. Mengetahui profil promotor sebuah pertunjukan sama pentingnya dengan mengetahui siapa saja penampil di acara tersebut. Jaminan Tontonan Apalagi saat ini bisnis industri hiburan juga tengah berkembang pascapandemi COVID-19 selama dua tahun belakangan. "Kurang lebih analoginya sama seperti kita nonton film favorit. Mungkin dulu kita hanya melihat siapa aktor atau aktris yang membintangi filmnya,” ujarnya. Karena promotor hanya perlu mencari dan membayar artis. Juga, mencari lokasi dan sponsor, lalu menjual tiket kepada masyarakat. Tetapi, ada banyak faktor yang terkait erat dengan untung-rugi penyelenggaraan acara tersebu. Utamanya,  menyangkut kredibilitas si promotor. Bisnis hiburan, menurut Dino, adalah berisiko tinggi. Ketika promotor mengumumkan sebuah konser musik, tapi, respons publik tidak terlalu bagus. Maka mereka berada di bawah bayang-bayang kerugian. Setiap pertunjukan yang memiliki permintaan tinggi biasanya dibarengi dengan tiket yang terjual habis sehingga hal ini dimanfaatkan oleh oknum-oknum tertentu. Charge of the Goddess

We are all naked under the clothes, so our bodies shouldn't be something we are ashamed of. Some covens do practice ritual in the nude. Just do what feels right to you!
