I saw you ask for math questions, so here's one that I constructed for myself when I was in my early twenties and then researched until I figured out which field of math was best used to solve it (I am not a math specialist. I was an acting school dropout at the time. It took me a while >_<)
Word problem:
Imagine you have six potential heroes in a videogame, but you're only allowed to choose three of them per run. You choose all three before the first scene of the game, and the order in which you selected them determines how they appear in the story and how they relate to one another. Given that only three out of six can be present in the game each time you play, and that the order of the three chosen heroes does matter, how many variations of the plot of the game are possible to experience? (Presume that there are no other meaningful decisions in the game)
That’s a really cool question! If you don’t mind, I’m going to think out loud here.
My first though was to use information from a way to use a möbius strip. With möbius strips, it’s all about saying that (a,b) should be mapped onto (b,a). But with this problem, the opposite is true, since we want (a,b) and (b,a) to be their own things. The next issue that we come across is that we’re not looking at 2 values, but 3. That’s also easily fixable since 3 coordinates would just be mapped into 3D space, each coordinate point being a potential variation to the game. So, this problem could be visualized as the number of integer coordinate points in a cube 5 unit cubes tall.
From there, the problem is relatively simple. We can extrude each point to be a unit cube, making it a question of the volume of a new cube of 6 unit cubes tall. This is simply 6^3, or 216.
And there’s your answer! I’m not positive on it, but it feels pretty good so if anyone else wants to solve it I encourage it! I want to be proven wrong if I am so I can learn. I’m sure this problem could be solved with series or something like that, but sometimes the best solution in math is to do the thing that makes the most sense to you.
Thank you for the ask! I really appreciated this puzzle :D

Me writing what should have been at most a bullet point one-shot comedic romance adventure: “hee hee hoo I’ll knock this out in no time”
Me, four months later and 112k+ words in: “Hmm I think I need to look at the practical engineering reference guide again so we can really assess the recycler issue on this cistern in the compound because I don’t know that they could have it on the lower level if the mountain rock is going to have a level 9 on the Mohs hardness scale—”
#Cannot stress enough how very little any of this research actually gets put into the fic itself#I just need for any technical/sci-fi details I include to sound somewhat believable even if they’re only mentioned in passing#Most of these conflicts are based on their environment so it has to have some measure of truth at the center#It’s like how you can tell when a book centered around nature or agriculture has been written by somebody who didn’t actually grow up aroun#either of those things and obviously hasn’t done their research to the point their characters know what they’re talking about#Anyway yeah. The soldiers need to seem competent at fixing their equipment and improvising tools based on the vast amount of training#and education they were given#Which means I as the author need to understand the problem the complications AND THE SOLUTION well enough the characters sound#not just knowledgeable but natural and familiar with it when talking about it#Same goes for the pilot. I’m pulling out my old flight manuals and looking into advanced avionics just so I can consolidate#a simplified answer into two sentences she can use to explain her area of expertise to somebody who has no idea what kind of ship she flies#Anyway#Fic: Call Sign#The actual simple reason for doing this is that effective imagery and worldbuilding fills out the world and makes it richer as a result#And unfortunately that means I am doing several crash courses in about fifteen different sciences so that I know what I’m talking about#Fun fact I wanted to be a cargo pilot but the aviation program at my university was THE most expensive major they had#And I’m not good/fast enough at math to get through even the small aircraft piloting guide 😞#If I can’t have the adventures and experiences I want I can at least tell stories where they happen#The good news is I have had plenty of experience fixing things and improvising technical solutions based on what science and history I know#So many of these problems are just household and vehicle issues on a bigger scale

Please help me organise my data
I don’t know how to properly match my data this is not a funnypost I’m not very good at this kind of thinking and need help
I am running a club which once a month sets up each member with one other member. The following month they will be set up with a different member. We do not want the same people to be matched up more than once (until necessary)
What is the best way for me to make sure the above happens? I’m using google sheets to organise my data

As the first math anon (the one with the failed exam), I really do appreciate you writing out a response for me. I will sincerely take your advice and tips to heart.
I hope it helps, anon!! If there's any specific parts giving you trouble (except geometry bestie sorry) I'm happy to try and help break it down!

Fun math/counting problem for everyone
Okay so I know this will only be interesting to like maybe one other person but I came across a fun counting problem I wanted to share. For a given number of digits, n, how many numbers have a unique sequence of digits up to permutation? (So to be explicit about what the question is asking, 15 and 51 would both count as the same digit sequence since the digits of 51 are just a permutation of the digits of 15. Also, leading 0s are also included in the number. For example in the four digit case, 15 would be written as 0015.)
If you’re at all math inclined or like number puzzles I do genuinely encourage you to try to figure this question out yourself partially because it's fun but mainly because I’m curious if anyone else can come up with a different/better solution than I did. I'll put my solution under the break. It's half informal proof (making it more rigorous is an exercise for the reader or w/e) and half just like a guided solution. If you're familiar with manipulating sums and can read basic math notation (if you're unfamiliar with the notation when defining the function, don't worry about it, it really doesn't matter I just think it looks pretty) you should be able to follow (hopefully, unless i've done something terribly wrong).

for positive trigun-related asks: favorite thing abt knives? :) (any continuity)
FAVOURITE?? /j
In all honesty to truly express how I feel about Knives I have to like put you inside my brain because whenever I think of him now that “PIKMIN😁” audio just plays continuously in my head, but I’ll try explain anyway.
1. Um so like, I tend to just gravitate to misunderstood characters tbh like🧍‍♂️. It really is just that simple sometimes something about characters that are just so much more than they present and are thus sadly ignored by people who don’t think twice about what they believe get to me. Something about I guess my own experiences with neurodiversity and how it makes me behave, mental illnesses that people invalidate, transness in an environment where people don’t understand or tolerate that. With all these things you tend to behave in a destructive way that isn’t quite true to you and you’re plunged into a sinkhole of forever being misinterpreted. It’s…actually tragic.
2. Umm. Something is wrong with him actually like💀. Bye I just really see myself in how he lets his fears and vulnerabilities boil inside him until their hot enough to carve into needle-point knives. I don’t do that anymore thank goodness but I just have perspective on how powerful fear and loneliness is when it comes to distorting and morphing good willed people just looking for reprieve into, the very same people/forces that hurt them. And so I am biased in that I wish for knives to GET HELP and also maybe find a place or person where he feels safe enough to just let it all go. I’m sure in stampede at least he thinks that person is Vash but, NUH UH. Life isn’t that simple bae you’re both mentally ill…and also that’s NOT how you ask for help💀💀
Oy vey…

My literal favorite pastime is saying "this is why I'm getting an engineering degree" to anything trivial in nature. Successfully downloaded a game for my friend? Engineering degree. Duct taped a floppy sun visor on a car to keep it upright? Engineer degree. Solved for how many teaspoons of instant coffee can go into my mug if I use 8 oz measuring cups of water instead of 6? Engineering degree, and the reason I passed multivar calc with an A

Ight think there are two sides to the AI argument (actually it's one side, but people like to claim they oppose eachother because grey is scary to them):
-using generative AI to try and cover for not being able to make a damn story seriously at a point that stops even being your fucking story, even claiming it's your story is like claiming that paying builders to build a house is the same as building it yourself, if you need to get a generative AI to write then you can't write you can just click a couple buttons. and leave that "prompt engineering" crap at the door I'm doing a fucking degree in AI and your just fucking lying to make yourself feel like you put effort in. It isn't like using a calculator to do maths (something that still requires lots of base knowledge of the subject and as you go further with the subject using calculators get less and less common as it moves beyond just plugging numbers into an equation), it's like using an app where you point you phone at the question and it gives you the answer, it doesn't even bother showing it's working, you just hope it's right. AI is not evil or wrong, using a generative AI is not "theft" or just mulching together other people's work, that's not how the algorithms work, believe me if it was we would have made them 50yrs ago, but getting generative AIs to do work is not working, it is as much your writing as a commission you bought was your art, it was made by someone or something else, not you
-the one place I can see a potential place for generative AI in writing is doing "am I an idiot" checks without bothering real people, ya' know just asking one too throw out a few suggestions for how to fix a problem or plug a hole you can't quite get your head around and you just know there's an easy solution but you can't work out what, or getting that word you just can't quite get a grasp on. ya' know stuff that's not really that important to the story or anything and where you'd normally check with a friend or steadily creep into insanity trying to figure it out, not that it's a complete replacement for either of those, just a third option for when friends aren't available and you need to look presentable to an outside observer. ya' know, treat them the same way you'd treat a friend or a sketchy website, it'd be insane to just directly rip their stuff, but it's ok to go to them for sanity checks and untying knots you've got yourself into, just remember they can get things wrong, just like anyone else
You will not use AI to get ideas for your story. You will lie on the floor and have wretched visions like god intended

Mastering Special Series in Geometric Progression (7+77+777+... & 0.3+0.33+...) - Complete Guide
Geometric Progressions (GP) become fascinating when we encounter special series like: 7 + 77 + 777 + 7777 + … to n terms 0.3 + 0.33 + 0.333 + 0.3333 + … to n terms (and infinite terms) In this comprehensive guide (based on 9nid’s YouTube Video – Geometric Progression Part 3), we’ll break down:✓ The step-by-step method to solve these series✓ How to find sums for finite AND infinite terms✓…
