OCEAN'S TWELVE 2004
Look, it's not in my nature to be mysterious. But I can't talk about it and I can't talk about why.

Nov. 13, 2011 -- Chiefs WR Jonathan Baldwin catches a pass and pins it to the back of Broncos S Brian Dawkins. Unfortunately a Chiefs' illegal formation penalty negated the catch and led to a replay of the down. Broncos would prevail 17-10 under QB Tim Tebow.

Ocean's Twelve (2004)
Tumblr media
Making Ocean’s Twelve must’ve been a blast. You can tell the actors were certainly having a good time. Too bad the fun can't extend to the audience as well. This film thinks it’s so clever, so funny. All I want to do is punch it in its smart little face.
Set three years after Ocean’s Eleven, Terry Benedict (Andy García) has located the Ocean's crew and demands they return his money - with interest. Fearful for their lives, the group schemes to pull a few quick jobs to pay him back but their efforts are hindered by the master thief “The Night Fox”. He agrees to help Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and his friends out of their jam if they can best his legendary skills.
Immediately, the film is in trouble. Either Danny and his friends will succeed in their mission and pay back Benedict - which will make us unhappy because we don't like him - or they will fail and the villain will have them all killed - which will make us unhappy because we like them. The only possible way to avoid audience disappointment would be for the scoundrels to somehow steal from the man - again - and beat him so decisively that he gives up trying to get his revenge. Unfortunately, that’s what the first movie was about so you know it’s not going to happen.
Ocean's Twelve can’t even figure out what to do with its characters. The problem is that although we sort of got a vibe that they got along, we never really believed the people rounded up by Danny were friends. It was pretty clear that at the end of the first movie, they were going their separate ways. Maybe some of them would keep in contact but no one was ringing up “The Amazing” Yen (Shaobo Qin) to see how he was doing. Like many others, he was hired to fulfill a role in a con and nothing more… but he was in the first movie so he has to come back again. How does the screenplay by George Nolfi use him? It shoves Yen into a bag and then accidentally ships him off to the wrong country so he can be “in the movie” but off-screen as much as possible.
Forget Twelve. This movie only has a few important characters. There’s Danny and Rusty (Brad Pitt), Danny’s wife Tess (Julia Roberts) and Rusty’s old flame, Isabel Lahiri (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Then, you have the villains with Vincent Cassel as The Night Fox and Andy García. Everyone else could’ve been condensed into one or two people. Similarly, the plot could’ve been thinned a lot. As is, there are so many twists and turns it’ll make your head spin. In another heist film, that would've been good but so many revelations are then revealed to be completely useless by the final scene it makes you feel like you wasted your time. In this instance, the main plan is so dumb you know director Steven Soderbergh is trying to pull a fast one on you and you don’t buy it for a second.
The most infuriating scene is also the unfunniest. The crew's target is the Fabergé Imperial Coronation Egg (quite the step down from a vault full of money if you ask me) so they recruit Tess (who is the twelfth member of the team) to help. Their plan? Capitalize on the running joke that she “sorta” looks like Julia Roberts by distracting the people in the museum while the others steal the egg. Not terribly clever, this gag also breaks one of the unspoken rules of filmmaking. The audience promises to ignore the fact that we know these are actors on-stage as long as the movie doesn’t draw attention to it and pretends the story is set in a world other than ours, “Last Action Hero”-style. As Oceans Twelve does this whole “I don’t look that much like her”, “Oh no! There’s Bruce Willis! Now I have to pretend like I know what he’s talking about” thing, you make a mental promise to hate the film no matter what it does later.
The worst part of Ocean’s Eleven” was the hint at a sequel right at the very end because deep down, you knew the magic couldn’t be replicated, that only the most convoluted of scenarios could bring these people together again. Ocean’s Twelve proves that so thoroughly it’ll make you wish the actors would all retire. (April 28, 2022)

Fuck It Friday
tagged by @paperstorm. Thank you! Cheating a little because this is an outtake, not a snippet.
This is an outtake from Knave 4 that got cut really early when I moved the action in this story from New Orleans to Dallas (mostly for logistical reasons - you can drive between Austin and Dallas fairly easily, but NOLA is an 8 hour drive and that was too far for my purposes. Also, I love NOLA, but I do not know enough about it to make it a character in my story). But, that being said, I really really loved this scene because it was fun and flirty and hinted at TK knowing the Leverage crew (all heist stories exist in this universe). That bit about TK and glasses is going into Knave 4 somewhere though.
"You want to weigh in on this maybe?"  Matt says with mild exasperation.
TK doesn't look up from where he's squinting at his computer and taking rapid notes on a pad of paper.  "Not my turf."
"What does that mean?"
That gets TK to turn away from the screen and look at Matt over the rim of the reading glasses he's started wearing when he needs to work at night.  He's been fretting about it, and Carlos has so far been too amused by his vanity to tell him how unbearably sexy he finds them.  He's saving it for a night when TK needs an ego boost.
"New Orleans has a crew."
Carlos and Matt both look at TK.  Matt's the one who bites the bullet and asks.  "What?"
TK huffs a breath.  "It's rude to poach on someone else's turf.  New Orleans has a crew.  We can't go."
Carlos and Matt exchange a look.  Matt clears his throat.  "Can you say more?"
TK looks baffled.  "How would you feel if someone came into your house and started rummaging around in the drawers uninvited?"
Carlos and Matt exchange another look, and Matt raises his eyebrows like 'do you want to tell him, or should I?'.  TK catches the exchange and flushes.  "Okay, bad example.  But my point stands.  New Orleans has a crew that lives there.  I'm not gonna barge in and start investigating something there."  He waves a hand.  "I'll let them know they've got a fox in their henhouse and they'll take care of it."
Matt opens his mouth, presumably to point out that this is not how investigations work, but Carlos has a more pressing question.  "Wait, does this go both ways?  Like do you get a courtesy phone call if someone's planning a job in Austin?"
TK frowns.  "Huh.  I've never really thought about it.  I mean, I'm out of the game, but technically yeah, probably someone would give me a head's up."  He shrugs.  "Honestly, it hasn't come up so far.  All our thieves have been local home grown idiots."
"Belyaev?"  Matt asks like he can't help himself.
TK makes a face. "The Russian mob does not, generally speaking, do polite.  I'm talking grifters with class."  He points a finger at Matt.  "Cassel definitely doesn't count as classy."
Matt looks like he has so many questions, but Carlos is sidetracked.  "So, you're our what?  Superman?  Protecting the city?"  He gives TK a serious look.  "Baby, do you wear spandex under your work clothes?"
TK gives him a dirty look.  "You know what I wear under my clothes, and some days it doesn't include - "
Matt holds up a hand.  "Nope.  I'm calling TMI.  I don't need to know.  Can we go back to the New Orleans has a crew thing?"
TK slants him a look.  "If you seriously want me to believe that the FBI doesn't know who's working out of Nola, I'm gonna have to tell you to pull the other one, because it's got bells on.  Look, I'll give them a call, let them know and they'll handle it."
"They'll handle it?"  Matt says faintly.  "What does that mean?"
TK shrugs and goes back to his email. "It means they'll take care of it, clean house."  He glances up again at Matt's loud silence and rolls his eyes. "omg, they're not gonna kill the guy, just you know, scam him back a bit, hack his email and sign him up for Cat Fanciers magazine.  I don't know, they're creative."
TK apparently believes that's the end of it, because he turns back to his computer, and studying for the final he's worried about and Carlos isn't at all, and Carlos can tell from the way his eyes narrow and he starts typing that TK has entirely dismissed the conversation from his attention.  Matt gives him a look, and Carlos shrugs helplessly and smiles.  "What do you want?  He said he'll give them a call."
okay, I'm tagging for outtakes - @welcometololaland, you have to have outtakes, and @rmd-writes, and @strandnreyes, and @three-drink-amy

WIP adaptation meme
I'm doing this for A Tale of Two Cities, because why not. I feel like we're overdue for another screen adaptation.
Would you want a movie adaption, TV, or something else? Animated or live action?
Live-action TV series. Four episodes, each episode about 45-50 minutes long.
What would the soundtrack be like?
I would want the soundtrack to be a lot like that of Poldark, which is set around the same time period. Ideally, it would have the same composer, Anne Dudley.
Which character/plot point/etc would be your favorite to see on screen?
Sydney Carton.
Which character/plot point/etc is most important for an adaptation to get right?
See above.
What’s the worst thing an adaptation of your WIP could do? Your absolute worst nightmare?
I don’t know about the “worst” thing, but here’s one of my pet peeves in ATOTC adaptations: Sydney Carton saying his last words out loud. It makes sense on stage, but on screen it’s absolutely unjustifiable. It essentially means that he’s blowing his cover at the very last second for no good reason. Just do a voiceover instead.
Who would you cast as your characters?
Sydney Carton: George Blagden Charles Darnay: Cesar Domboy Lucie Manette: Anya Taylor-Joy or Florence Pugh Dr. Manette: Vincent Cassel Mr. Lorry: James Wilby, Jim Broadbent, or Mark Rylance Miss Pross: Olivia Colman, Lesley Nicol, or Lesley Manville John Barsad: Sacha Baron Cohen Mr. Stryver: Matt Berry Jerry Cruncher: Turlough Convery Ernest Defarge: Romain Duris Therese Defarge: Eva Green or Marion Cotillard Marquis St. Evremonde: Lambert Wilson
As you may have noticed, I want French actors to play all the French roles. (mmm, French rolls.)
I would also have George Blagden and Cesar Domboy play the Marquis and his brother in the flashback sequence with Dr. Manette.
Describe the opening scene
I would actually start with the ending: Sydney Carton ascending the scaffold. No dialogue, just visuals and maybe music. Since almost everyone already knows the ending, it wouldn’t be a spoiler, it would just be a “how we got here” opening with the rest of the story told as a flashback.
Free space for anything I didn’t mention! Talk about things you would add, things that are important to you, or even lay out the plot of every episode of your Netflix Original if it suits you!!
I would want it to be bilingual, in French and English. I can't believe this hasn't been done. Characters would speak French when it would make sense to do so, with English subtitles (except during Madame Defarge’s confrontation with Miss Pross - since Miss Pross can’t understand her, the audience shouldn’t either). Obviously, this would require several cast members to be at least somewhat bilingual.

#notizie #news #breakingnews #cronaca #politica #eventi #sport #moda Read the full article
