So glad Matt Jefferies kept trying until he got it right.

Review: USS Enterprise NCC-1701
Rating: 10/10
The one, the only, the original that launched a thousand imitations and copies, the Constitution-class USS Enterprise from Star Trek: The Original Series is a masterclass in both aesthetic design and in-universe functionality. Nothing ever will compare with the Enterprise, Kirk's first and only true love.
Strengths:
The design of the Enterprise derives from the creative team behind the original show, especially Gene Roddenberry and Matt Jefferies. The ship was to be different than all of the others seen in traditional science fiction media of the time. Gene "had emphasized that there were to be no fins, no wings, no smoke trails, no flames, no rocket." (1) In this, through many, many iterations, some of which became other ships in Star Trek, the Enterprise took shape.
The ship is beautiful and recognizable from every angle, from the simple color scheme to the very distinct three-part design that became standard for Trek going forward: two warp nacelles set off from the ship on struts, a saucer section, and an underslung secondary hull. Nearly every hero ship in the series going forward, from the Enterprise-D of The Next Generation to the Discovery from Star Trek: Discovery, with some notable exceptions, follow this style. (Incidentally, the Discovery was actually based off of some concept art done by Ralph McQuarrie, the famous Star Wars concept artist, for a cancelled sequel to The Original Series which became reworked into Star Trek: The Motion Picture.)
In canon, the Enterprise is one of many Constitution-class cruisers, the mainstay design of Starfleet of the mid-2200s. While this was certainly done due to limitations in budget, and some of the other Constitution-class ships, like the Constellation from The Doomsday Machine (S2 E6), were made from off-the shelf models of the Enterprise (hence why the Constellation's NCC number is 1017). The Constitution-class would go on to be refit into an equally great looking ship that would feature prominently in the six Original Series films.
Weaknesses:
There are none. Honestly, I'm not sure why the shows set during The Original Series era, like Discovery and Strange New Worlds feel the need to redesign a classic like the original Enterprise. All of the greebling and cutouts and lights turn one of the mainstays of science fiction, and a ship that nearly everyone on Earth recognizes, into a generic starship.

I came across some concept art for the shuttle craft in the Original Series of Star Trek my Matt Jefferies.
Goddamn, they really look like Flash Gordon rockets. Makes a lot of sense considering the age of some of the sci fi writers that grew up with it - and - the aeronautical designs of the experimental sound-barrier breaking rocket planes of the 50's. And the man himself was, famously, an aircraft engineer as well - having done the designs for the original Enterprise, and much more.

Ok wow I think they could have named something else after him not just the tubes 😅
I recently found The Star Trek Sketchbook with all of Matt Jefferies incredible set designs. They look like they were 5 min drawings on the back of Star Trek script pages.  Simply Amazing.

sitcom love
As I await for the season finale and season 2 of St. Denis ( please go watch if you can, me no no want early cancellation because of viewership ) I wonder how the love between Matt and Serena will go.
As a connoisseur of sitcoms, I’ve seen a many of ways crushes have been written, and it makes me curious on how these two will end up?
Will it be like Brooklyn 99? Where Boyle is lovesick for Diaz but later finds his own lover and family?
Will it be like Superstore? A super slow burn between workers like with Amy and Jonah? ( it does have some of the same writers if I’m not mistaken)
Maybe something like community? Like how Jeffery tries to court Britta, they sleep together, but in all reality are destined to be friends?
Or maybe they’ll do some other route ( or a route of a sitcom I haven’t watched yet )
Either way, I love the show so far, all the characters are super fun to watch, and I hope that it gets MINIMUM 4 seasons.

This is the Matt Jefferies-designed ship that AMT used to expand their initial Star Trek line of models in the mid-1960s.
The Leif Ericson didn't sell very well, and the entire Star Trek line was soon discontinued. However, the model did find fans in renowned science fiction authors Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. They liked it so much they used it as the basis for the INSS MacArthur in their magnum opus The Mote in God's Eye.
