Pairing: Jingliu x female reader
Warnings: NSFW, breeding, praising, Jingliu has a cock. (gentle sex because she deserves it.)
Author's notes: I love her so much I got carried away with the details.. 😭 anyway, I heard her laugh in JP dub.. she's insane but I can fix her.
MDNI
You slowly opened your eyes, noticing you're in a dark room and the sole origin of illumination resides in the moon's gentle radiance filtering through the aperture in the window. The bed proved to be gentle, yet it failed to alleviate the discomfort coursing through your body, you feel like you just died..
"Finally awake?" A sudden frigid tone emanates from an undetermined point within the room. You noticed a pair of red eyes glowing in the dark, slowly approaching you.
"Where am I.." As you grasp your head, striving to recall the preceding occurrences, a soft chuckle escapes the individual concealed in the shadows. "You challenged me in a battle and then you've met your downfall. Now.. your life is mine." The person concealed in the darkness finally revealed herself.. those crimson eyes and that self-satisfied grin— the last images you beheld before losing consciousness.
Jingliu moved closer, leaning down towards you and whispered intimately into your ear, "You belong to me now..." She envelops you with her arms, making sure to press her body firmly against yours, striving for maximum closeness.
"I can't remember giving myself to you.." you mumbled, your feeble attempts to resist proving ineffective due to the injuries inflicted by her. "That's not how it works.. you lost, I won, and I claimed your life as my prize. Fair, wouldn't you say?" Jingliu gently lowers you onto the bed, intertwining her fingers with yours. Her demeanor, now tender and determined, stands in stark contrast to the brutality she exhibited just hours ago when she had beaten you mercilessly.
Her actions make your heart skip a beat, and as you gaze upon her face, you see a blend of gentleness and smug satisfaction. It's as though she's taunting your vulnerability while simultaneously radiating an air of contentment and happiness.
"I can't wait to taste you.. and be one with you.." Jingliu leans down once more, taking in your scent as she plants soft and loving kisses all over your neck. A small sigh escapes your lips, while your hands reciprocated the hold she has on them. The action made Jingliu hum in satisfaction, she pulled away to slowly remove her clothing while maintaining eye contact with you, revealing her well toned body and along with her massive cock.. already dripping with pre-cum.
You gulped thickly at the sight as you tried to move away, but she pulled you into a tight embrace once more, her cock rubbing against your clothed body. "Do not run away from me, I need you." Jingliu purrs as her hands made their way to undo your pants, pulling it down your legs.
"I promise to take care of you, I was planning to keep you as my pet but you are too beautiful for that." Jingliu says softly, her fingers gently rubbing your clit as she leans closer to your face. "I'll keep you as my lover instead." she added before pressing her lips against yours in a gentle kiss while her fingers rubbed and played with your folds, preparing you for penetration.
You moaned against her lips, your legs spreading widely on their own. Jingliu deepened the kiss, her tongue pushing through to explore your mouth as you feel your mixed saliva rolling down the corner of your lips.
"I can't hold myself back anymore.." Jingliu mutters as she strokes her cock while kissing you even deeper before pulling away after a while. She's now breathing heavily, her hands still moving up and down her shaft.
"You'll be a good girl for me, right..? I won't hurt you, just be my obedient girl.." Jingliu said with a warm smile while spreading your legs apart even more, rubbing the tip of her cock against your swollen clit. You whimpered softly as tears start to form in your eyes which she wiped gently right away.
"Shh, it'll be alright.. I'll be gentle, hm?" She cooed while pressing the head against your dripping entrance. Her hands moved to your hips to keep you still while she starts to push forward, slowly and carefully.. piercing through your tight flesh.
"Ah..! big.." You whimpered loudly as your hands wander around to reach for something solid to hold onto. Jingliu noticed your pained expression so she quickly held you close for comfort, letting you dig your nails into her back.
"It'll be okay.. I promise to make you feel good." Jingliu planted a soft kiss against your breast while slowly burying herself deeper into you. She glances down, smiling at the sight of small amount of blood trickling down your tight heat.
"Ah.. I got your first time, I'm so happy." She hugged you tighter while she pushed her cock inch by inch, trying her best to hold herself back from ramming and pounding into you.
You pant heavily as you hold onto Jingliu as tight as you can, you keep whimpering like a helpless puppy beneath her but she made sure to keep comforting you... until finally, she felt you relaxing and even moving a bit.
"Good girl, you did great. I'm proud of you.." Jingliu whispers lovingly into your ear, she started to move now.. thrusting in and out in a steady rhythm making the both of you moan in pleasure. She leaned down with her tongue sticking out to lick your lips before kissing you deeply. The sound of wet flesh slapping echoes the room along with the loud moans from the both of you.
"H-Harder..." You managed to whisper in between loud moans. Just hearing that single word made Jingliu lose control, holding you in place firmly as she lifts your hips up to ram her cock into you hard but still making sure you're comfortable with what she's doing.
"You're so cute.. I'll fill you up.." Jingliu mumbles as she keeps grunting and moaning on top of you, giving you long and deep strokes. Your back arches off the bed while your hands grips on the sheets tightly, feeling yourself getting closer to climax.
Your teary eyes met Jingliu's, giving you a warm smile as she leans down to kiss your lips while her hips kept moving. "I love you.." she whispers against your lips, her words are enough to make you tighten and squeeze her throbbing cock inside you. "Ah.. so tight.. You like that? I love you.. I love you so, so much." Jingliu kept repeating into your ears, your heart beats so fast you feel like it'll explode. You wanted to say it back but your mouth is too busy moaning and whimpering.
Jingliu lets out a loud grunt, her hands pulled you towards her as she thrusts deeper and deeper until she's completely buried deep inside, hitting your cervix before she floods your womb with her thick load. "Take it all..!" she whimpered, holding you tightly as she pumps the remaining release while all you can do is let out a long and loud moan. Reaching climax together with her, your toes curl and you threw your head back in ecstasy.
After the both of you finished, she collapsed on top of you.. not even bothering to pull out, she just cuddled you close while whispering sweet praises into your ear.
Your heart swells with love, completely forgetting why you even tried to fought her in the first place. Before you drift off to sleep, you managed to whisper back.. "I.. love you too.." Jingliu's warm smile is the last thing you saw before your eyes closed, even in your sleep you feel her arms wrapped tightly around your body protectively.

Mina and Jonathan refusing to voice their thoughts.
The Harker dynamic of being so open and trusting each other is so wonderful, and it is tailor made to receive maximum disruption when Gender Roles™ get reinstated to shut one of them out.
Mina, feeling so rejected, doesn't tell anyone about her nightmare or share her record of it because she fears being shut out more. Except she can't be shut out more than she already is because they're not telling her anything. She hoping for a chance at crumbs here, and doesn't want to confirm the suitors thoughts that she can't handle it and take that chance away.
Throughout October 1st, Jonathan keeps trying to convince himself that this is fine, telling her nothing is protecting her somehow, and real props to his voiceactor on Re: Dracula because he sounds so doubtful. He does not believe a word he's saying but he wants to so badly.
They're both just itching to get this over with so they can tell each other everything immediately after, which is funny because that's not the impression I got from Van Helsing.
Sure, he did say "We shall tell you all in good time." but I got the feeling that he imagined telling Mina years later after the Harkers have settled down and had kids, if at all. He doesn't understand how his decision to exclude Mina has disrupted the Harker dynamic that they both want to go back to.
And this disruption has also caused Jonathan, the man who is most connected to and comfortable with femininity, to hesitate voicing his own feelings.
Somewhere, looking out from the shadow, I seemed to see the high lights of the Count's evil face, the ridge of the nose, the red eyes, the red lips, the awful pallor. It was only for a moment, for, as Lord Godalming said, "I thought I saw a face, but it was only the shadows," and resumed his inquiry, I turned my lamp in the direction, and stepped into the passage. There was no sign of any one; and as there were no corners, no doors, no aperture of any kind, but only the solid walls of the passage, there could be no hiding-place even for him. I took it that fear had helped imagination, and said nothing.
Arthur thought he saw the Count, and so did Jonathan. If Jonathan had backed up Arthur's statement, then the fact that 2 people saw him suggests it wasn't just a trick of the light, that he might actually be there.
But Jonathan says nothing, and I think there are a lot of factors that caused this:
Jonathan recently had brain fever put upon by doubting his own recollection of what happened. This place reminds him of the castle, so it's no wonder he might suspect his mind is playing tricks again.
He's in the presence of 2 doctors, one who runs a lunatic asylum, and they just got back from rejecting Renfield's request to go home. He doesn't want to give the doctors any reason to doubt his sanity.
His wife has been excluded from the hunt. Van Helsing declared her work "finished" now that all the documentation has been gathered. He helped with that too. Van Helsing could also declare that Jonathan is similarly "finished" and he has no more part to play.
And so, we see very clearly in the October 1st entry how disrupting the Harker dynamic has worsened the open and honest communication that was vital to their initial investigation and gathering the papers, and has also worsened the communication between the Harkers and the rest of the crew.

Okay so today I want to talk about this pretty girl:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is called Celestial Centipende or Fluorescent Flower and we can find it in Byrgenwerth and Chalice Dungeons. In my opinion this name suggest it's just mix of big space bug and a plant. But considering Bloodborne is highly inspired by Lovecraftian stories, I think Celestial Centipendes might be an ancient intelligent beings.
I realised they are similar to the Old Ones (Don't confuse with Great Ones!) from At the Mountains of Madness. The Old Ones are ancient beings who came from the cosmos and created life on our planet. Their civillization was very advanced when they started to colonize the Earth but it started to degradate through time and finally completely disappeared. In the story main characters find well-preserved remains of a few Old Ones on Antartica. Old Ones are not EXACTLY like Celestial Centipendes, but there are a few distinguishing marks that are very similar to them. Here is an extract from a description of one of these beings (fragments that remind Celestial Centipendes are bold):
Objects are eight feet long all over. Six-foot, five-ridged barrel torso three and five-tenths feet central diameter, one foot end diameters. Dark gray, flexible, and infinitely tough. Seven-foot membranous wings of same color, found folded, spread out of furrows between ridges. Wing framework tubular or glandular, of lighter gray, with orifices at wing tips. Spread wings have serrated edge. Around equator, one at central apex of each of the five vertical, stave-like ridges are five systems of light gray flexible arms or tentacles found tightly folded to torso but expansible to maximum length of over three feet. Like arms of primitive crinoid. Single stalks three inches diameter branch after six inches into five substalks, each of which branches after eight inches into small, tapering tentacles or tendrils, giving each stalk a total of twenty-five tentacles
Surely Centipendes do not have wings, and their "legs" are more like arthropod legs than tentacles but look at concept art:
Tumblr media
These things around the "mouth" remind more tentacles than legs, aren't they?
At top of torso blunt, bulbous neck of lighter gray, with gill-like suggestions, holds yellowish five-pointed starfish-shaped apparent head covered with three-inch wiry cilia of various prismatic colors. Head thick and puffy, about two feet point to point, with three-inch flexible yellowish tubes projecting from each point. Slit in exact center of top probably breathing aperture. At end of each tube is spherical expansion where yellowish membrane rolls back on handling to reveal glassy, red-irised globe, evidently an eye.
Exept for yellow color and an eye, it seems quite similar, I think.
Five slightly longer reddish tubes start from inner angles of starfish-shaped head and end in saclike swellings of same color which, upon pressure, open to bell-shaped orifices two inches maximum diameter and lined with sharp, white tooth like projections—probably mouths. All these tubes, cilia, and points of starfish head, found folded tightly down; tubes and points clinging to bulbous neck and torso. Flexibility surprising despite vast toughness. At bottom of torso, rough but dissimilarly functioning counterparts of head arrangements exist. Bulbous light-gray pseudo-neck, without gill suggestions, holds greenish five-pointed starfish arrangement.
Tough, muscular arms four feet long and tapering from seven inches diameter at base to about two and five-tenths at point. To each point is attached small end of a greenish five-veined membranous triangle eight inches long and six wide at farther end. This is the paddle, fin, or pseudofoot which has made prints in rocks from a thousand million to fifty or sixty million years old.
I know that some parts of description don't correspond with Celestial Centipendes' appearance, but I think it might be possible that they're inspired by the Old Ones because it wouldn't be the first Lovecraftian reference in Bloodborne. What if summoning a meteor is not just weird superpower holding by a cosmic beast but an equivalent of the Call Beyond? What if they're not just a weird creatures from the dungeons, but the last from their kind? The kind which civilization vanished millions of years before Ptumerians, Loran and Isz. History likes to repeat, especially in Bloodborne, so I believe they were using Old Blood and trying to communicate with the Great Ones too.

SR-71 could sneak into a denied area, get the take and leave before our enemy even knew we were there 🇺🇸🇺🇸
The SR-71 was never successfully intercepted by surface-to-air missile or aircraft. It had a state-of-the-art electronic defensive system which would defeat an incoming missile’s homing and steering. Detectors on board would alert the crew of a missile launch instantly and, since the SR-71 did not normally fly at its maximum speed or altitude, the aircraft’s defense was simultaneously to jam the missile’s guidance while accelerating, climbing, and turning with 45º of bank. No surface-to-air missile could out-turn, thus hit, an SR-71, a fact demonstrated many times, especially during the Vietnam War. Attempts to shoot down an SR-71 continued until August 25, 1981, which was the last time an enemy (North Korea) fired a surface-to-air missile at an SR-71; that mission was flown by Maury Rosenberg, pilot, and Ed McKim, Reconnaissance Systems Officer (RSO).
We carried an array of sophisticated sensors and recorders which could glean reconnaissance data with cameras capable of high-quality photographs horizon-to-horizon. We also had radar imagery capable of one-foot resolution. This was the Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar System (ASARS), which could deliver readable radar pictures night or day, bad weather or clear. I’m no photo interpreter, but even I could tell what was pictured. The SR-71 also carried electronic intelligence (ELINT) systems which are still classified. We advertised that the SR-71, within 24 hours notification, could be over any target on earth and be capable of surveying 100,000 square miles of terrain each hour. It was no idle boast.
I’ll summarize the importance of the SR-71 missions by quoting Paul Crickmore, noted aviation historian and Blackbird author, in a letter to me.
“In theatre, the SR-71 proved the concept of high-Mach, high-altitude flight, to obtain vital aerial reconnaissance. The SR-71 regularly conducted reconnaissance missions in the skies over North Vietnam – particularly around Hanoi in 1968-70 which at the time, was the most highly defended area on the planet.”
“The Blackbirds provided superior flexibility compared to satellites, time after time, specific examples—Yom Kippur War 1973, Yemen 1979, Cuba 1977—1990, Lebanon October 1983 (following the truck-bomb attack killing over 240 US Marines), Libya 1986, The Persian Gulf 1987, but perhaps most importantly, the on-going monitoring of Soviet nuclear submarine fleets for the US Navy—particularly the Northern Fleet with their submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), capable of hitting large areas of the United States, as well as all Allied Countries.”

Hey Micheal what camera would you reccomend to some one starting out taking photos & what’s your set up?
Hey!
I'm a firm believer in buying an inexpensive DSLR or mirrorless setup with interchangeable lenses. You don't have to break the bank on a starter setup — just focus on buying a camera with a robust selection of first- and third-party lenses.
My usual advice is to start simple and only upgrade gear once you run into a physical or technical limitation that stops you from realizing your vision. For example, if you're not getting the shallow depth of field you want with your current lens and body, then maybe it's time to consider buying a lens with a larger maximum aperture (e.g., f/1.8 or f/1.4).
I started out with a Nikon D50 and a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8. That served me well for nearly five years, before I started running into technical limitations with the sensor that made shooting night photos difficult. That's when I switched to shooting medium format film for a spell, before ultimately settling on a full-frame Canon digital body. All-in-all, that experimentation period took about 17 years (I'm still not done).
That said, shop used for your first camera. Places like KEH or MPB have a great selection of tested and used gear. I personally shop from MPB. Here are a few great beginner full-frame camera bodies. I'll break out lenses later on in this post.
Why full frame? I think you get superior image quality, better depth of field, better image resolution for printing, and phenomenal dynamic range.
Canon EOS 5D Mark III ($714)
Nikon D750 ($774)
Canon 6D Mark II ($884)
Nikon D810 ($819)
Anyone of these are going to get the job done and then some.
The world of lenses is complicated and varied. You'll have “prime purists” that will tell you to eschew zoom lenses and only shoot prime (a lens with no zoom capabilities). You'll have people that say longer telephotos are all you need. The truth is, you'll find your niche the more you shoot. I prefer prime lenses for their simplicity (and the less I have to think about, the better).
I'll break these out by purpose.
Portraiture
Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 ($259)
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 ($134)
Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 ($184)
Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 ($78)
Landscapes
Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS ($294)
Nikkor AF 24mm f/2.8 ($134)
Multipurpose
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-f/5.6 IS STM ($54)
Nikon AF-P DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ($73)
I could go on and on, but this is enough to get you a start in the right direction.
If I were to put together a beginner kit with the above options, I would snatch up the Canon 5D Mark III with the Canon 50mm f/1.8 and the Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS. Total cost before taxes and shipping would be $1,142. You would have an incredibly flexible kit that lends itself to portraiture, landscapes, and street work, all for the same price as a new “prosumer” kit with only one lens from Amazon or other big box stores. If you don't know which direction you want to go, or you want to save on cost, there's nothing wrong with swapping out the two primes and grabbing the 18-55mm kit lens for next to nothing. That will at least let you dabble with different focal lengths and see what suits you.
I'm happy to answer any other questions here!
P.S. I shoot with a Canon EOS 6D Mark I and usually have a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 lens mounted on it for street portrait/street landscape work. My other carry-around camera is a Ricoh GR III.

Can we see what the gate looks like? Maybe if we see it it can be easier to fix!
Tumblr media
I do think I have a good idea of what The Gate is.
Tumblr media
I’ve got a picture too! We used to have this a LONG time ago, I think! Alright, this will be like, like those class presentations I hear so much about! Yeah! Like that! I’m the slideshow, you’re the speaker!
Tumblr media
That is alright.
Tumblr media
The Gate looks like this. A large, somewhat tall, rectangular structure connected to a system of other smaller machines with lots of screens, lights, and controls for maximum control. That is the definition taken from Aperture, by the way. Lot of words. Don’t like it.
Tumblr media
And it’s also very colorful. Just wanted to mention that, because it is.
Tumblr media
True.
It was a prototype, not meant to be seen by the public and very not… finished. Never was, I believe. Other universes turned out to be too out there for Aperture. Strange.
Tumblr media
Yeah, it’s wild, let me tell you! We were okay with turning people into praying mantises, but not this? Weird line to draw if you ask me. Could’ve been cool! And it is, so what the hell?
Tumblr media
Yeah, a- anyways, The Gate looks like this now. So.
Tumblr media
Unfortunate.

A biomass map of the Brazilian Amazon from multisource remote sensing
Tumblr media
The Amazon Forest, the largest contiguous tropical forest in the world, stores a significant fraction of the carbon on land. Changes in climate and land use affect total carbon stocks, making it critical to continuously update and revise the best estimates for the region, particularly considering changes in forest dynamics. Forest inventory data cover only a tiny fraction of the Amazon region, and the coverage is not sufficient to ensure reliable data interpolation and validation. This paper presents a new forest above-ground biomass map for the Brazilian Amazon and the associated uncertainty both with a resolution of 250 meters and baseline for the satellite dataset the year of 2016 (i.e., the year of the satellite observation). A significant increase in data availability from forest inventories and remote sensing has enabled progress towards high-resolution biomass estimates. This work uses the largest airborne LiDAR database ever collected in the Amazon, mapping 360,000 km2 through transects distributed in all vegetation categories in the region. The map uses airborne laser scanning (ALS) data calibrated by field forest inventories that are extrapolated to the region using a machine learning approach with inputs from Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR), vegetation indices obtained from the Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite, and precipitation information from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM). A total of 174 field inventories geolocated using a Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) were used to validate the biomass estimations. The experimental design allowed for a comprehensive representation of several vegetation types, producing an above-ground biomass map varying from a maximum value of 518 Mg ha−1, a mean of 174 Mg ha−1, and a standard deviation of 102 Mg ha−1. This unique dataset enabled a better representation of the regional distribution of the forest biomass and structure, providing further studies and critical information for decision-making concerning forest conservation, planning, carbon emissions estimate, and mechanisms for supporting carbon emissions reductions.

Harbor Porpoise Calf & Ensuing Necropsy | 7/25/23 & 8/17/23
My first solo carcass collection!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I got a call from a state park about someone who had reported “what looks like a dead dolphin or false killer whale”. The ranger had gone out to see for themselves but they told me that they couldn’t find it. I—knowing it was likely a harbor porpoise and not wanting to potentially miss a collectible carcass if there was a chance it was still there—drove the 16 minutes up to the beach and walked my ass about a mile up to the area where it was reported to have been spotted. I was doubting myself so I left the trash bag in my trunk and just brought gloves, but eventually I found it!
On the way, I saw a young dying pelican which was interesting but unfortunately we don’t deal with seabirds so there was nothing I could do to euthanize it.
I saw the little dorsal fin poking out of the sand in the distance and knew I’d found it. While I’d been walking I’d even seen the shoe prints of what must have been the ranger that went out to look for it going there and back, but I noticed that the prints stopped a decent distance away from the carcass, so I assume they misunderstood the location, but I’m glad I trusted my gut to travel out there.
Unfortunately, because I didn’t bring the trash bag up the beach with me, I had to carry this carcass by hand about a mile back. Due to it being, yknow, a sandy carcass, I didn’t really want to carry it back directly over my shoulder or against my chest, so I ended up having to walk back with it switching between being held raised a bit above my shoulder and held in front of me. It seriously worked my biceps…
I kept repeating “it’s for science” to myself as i walked back lmao
When I reached the beach access area there were still plenty of people around, and I felt like a criminal holding a dead body lmao. A group of (i counted) 12 kids of varying ages ran up to me to ask about it and it turned into a nice little educational moment. I got a few more questions as I carried it up the beach access but eventually I made it back to my car and put it in a bag and in the trunk.
Turns out the little guy was only 23 lbs so… I guess the way you carry something seriously makes a big difference.
Notably, this guy was super fresh and didn’t even have baby teeth yet, so how in the world he had several tiny invertebrates in his stomach when he was supposed to only be drinking milk still is beyond me!
Necropsy Notes | 8/17/23
General Comments: Carcass previously frozen, neonate, vibrissae present; some pink foam in trachea; several small items in stomach—appeared to be invertebrates; most organs unremarkable.

A BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO SHOOTING THE NIGHT SKY: Part 1
Tumblr media
This is the first in a series of entries covering night sky photography for beginners. If you're just starting out in Astrophotography, this session will covers what gear you'll need to have a successful, and enjoyable, session.
Before getting into the camera setup I used to capture star trails and the Milky Way, let's first review what items I use to capture my night skies.
THE RIGHT WEATHER
Okay, so you can't bring this with you but there's no point in venturing out if it's going to be cloudy, or worse. Be sure to check the hourly forecast in addition to the daily. Just because it's cloudy at sunset doesn't mean those clouds won't move out of the area before the stars come out (and, if shooting the Milky Way, you may have several hours before it rises, well after sunset).
THE RIGHT CAMERA
I use a Sony a7r iv, a full frame, 61mp camera body. You'll want a body that can handle higher ISOs without adding a lot of sensor noise, especially as you'll be taking potentially hundreds of shots for star trails and building up some sensor heat.
THE RIGHT LENS
Generally speaking, you're going to want two things out of your lens for astrophotography: wide angle and fast. I usually take two lenses with me. Since I'm shooting with a full frame and not a crop sensor (APS-C senor). I take my Sony 16-35 2.8 GM and my 14mm 1.8 GM primary lens. If you have a crop sensor camera and lenses, you’ll want to bring your widest lens with the widest aperture, preferably 2.8 or wider.
THE RIGHT TRIPOD
Be wary of relying on a light weight or flimsy tripod as you don't want your camera shaking during longer exposures (or, even worse, falling over). Ideally, you'll have a model that has a center hook from which you can hang your camera bag or tripod weights to help with windy conditions. I prefer and use SLIK Tripods and ball head. You can purchase directly from Slik Tripods website or on Amazon.
THE RIGHT APPS
I used PhotoPills to identify when and where the Milky Way or Polaris if I’m doing circle star trails, moon phase and position, and much more. It also has built in tools to help you: calculate your maximum exposure time to avoid star trailing (accounting for your camera's sensor size and your lens' set focal length), plan for time lapses, find hyperfocal distances… and a ton more. There is a lot to absorb and play around with and, fortunately, the developers provide tutorials for using all the tools (I spent about 90 minutes watching videos the night before the group outing). The mode I found most useful, however, is the night AR (altered reality) mode. Click on this and you're taken to a live view of your surroundings with an overlay of the sky. You can use this view to scroll back and forth through times and dates to preview where the Milky Way will be in the future; a great tool to plan your shot well in advance, especially when it won't be visible until 3am! Additionally, you'll likely discover that a star finder app will be useful, if you're trying to find/identify constellations or just need help finding the North Star (and can't remember your basic education, like me).
Tumblr media
THE RIGHT STUFF
Jump past the Milky Way for a rundown of some other items you'll need, or should consider, for night sky sessions.
TRIPOD WEIGHTS
If wind is in the forecast, consider some weighted bags for your tripod. I found some on Amazon for a good price and filled them with play sand from the local hardware store. The set I ordered has four bags, enough to place one on each tripod leg and to hang one from the tripod's center hook. If you don't want to use weighted bags, or forget them, you can always hang your camera bag from the hook in a pinch.
EXTRA CAMERA BATTERIES
More important for star trails than shooting the Milky Way but you'll want an extra battery or two. Shooting 240 30-second exposures for star trails chewed through about 70% of a fully charged battery for my Sony a7r iv, and I ended up using all three batteries I brought for the overnight session (only one was completely drained, the other two each had roughly 15-20% left). The next worst thing to not checking the weather forecast beforehand would be having perfect conditions and running out of juice halfway through your shooting.
INTERVALOMETER/WIRED REMOTE AND EXTRA BATTERIES
Another must-have for shooting star trails. Yes, you could shoot manually but who wants to stand or sit next to your camera for 2-3 hours hitting the shutter button every 30 seconds? I also discovered that the built-in interval timer on the Sony a7r iv allows for up to 9999 shots, but some cameras only allow up to 99 shots. As for batteries, the intervalometer/remote probably doesn't draw much power but, again, you don't want to get halfway through your shots only to have the batteries unexpectedly die. I always bring spare batteries and a portable battery charger just incase. It’s always nice to be prepared then not have it.
RED FLASHLIGHT/HEADLAMP
A headlamp is a must. Make sure it has a red lamp mode. Also I always carry a compact flashlight just incase- for light painting, getting around, and for emergencies - and a head lamp that has a red light option. I only used the flashlight a few times to sweep the foreground during long exposures of the Milky Way but I used the red headlamp frequently as I walked to and from my camera and my chair or car, or as I needed to check various things on my camera or intervalometer here and there through the night. Remember, ideal shooting conditions are during the new moon; between that and (hopefully) being far away from light pollution, it will be much darker than you expect!
OTHER ITEMS TO CONSIDER
Chair
Snacks/Drinks
Bug Spray
First aid kit
Balaclava (best purchase I've made for chilly nights!)
Blanket
Pillow (I caught a snooze in the back seat of my car... the pillow helped... some)
Extra memory cards
Lens cleaning tools
And a lens warmer. This is needed for those long cold nights or high humidity nights where frost or dew can form on your lens over time. There’s. I thing like shooting a 700 image star trail or time lapse and seeing the last 200-300 images are hazy due to frost or dew.
This covers what I typical bring and equipment I use for Astrophotography. You can always add to list as the nights are long, or you can always kick back while the camera is clicking away and read some more of my blogs or checkout my tutorials and adventures on YouTube. But keep that screen light away from your camera, you don’t want to introduce any unwanted light pollution!
Don’t forget to subscribe and stay update with new blogs and more!

👆 missile’s homing and steering.

"cosmic horror writers don't describe anything lol" i opened a lovecraft short story randomly and got this
“Objects are eight feet long all over. Six-foot five-ridged barrel torso 3.5 feet central diameter, 1 foot end diameters. Dark grey, flexible, and infinitely tough. Seven-foot membraneous wings of same colour, found folded, spread out of furrows between ridges. Wing framework tubular or glandular, of lighter grey, with orifices at wing tips. Spread wings have serrated edge. Around equator, one at central apex of each of the five vertical, stave-like ridges, are five systems of light grey flexible arms or tentacles found tightly folded to torso but expansible to maximum length of over 3 feet. Like arms of primitive crinoid. Single stalks 3 inches diameter branch after 6 inches into five sub-stalks, each of which branches after 8 inches into five small, tapering tentacles or tendrils, giving each stalk a total of 25 tentacles. At top of torso blunt bulbous neck of lighter grey with gill-like suggestions holds yellowish five-pointed starfish-shaped apparent head covered with three-inch wiry cilia of various prismatic colours. Head thick and puffy, about 2 feet point to point, with three-inch flexible yellowish tubes projecting from each point. Slit in exact centre of top probably breathing aperture. At end of each tube is spherical expansion where yellowish membrane rolls back on handling to reveal glassy, red-irised globe, evidently an eye. Five slightly longer reddish tubes start from inner angles of starfish-shaped head and end in sac-like swellings of same colour which upon pressure open to bell-shaped orifices 2 inches maximum diameter and lined with sharp white tooth-like projections. Probable mouths. All these tubes, cilia, and points of starfish-head found folded tightly down; tubes and points clinging to bulbous neck and torso. Flexibility surprising despite vast toughness. At bottom of torso rough but dissimilarly functioning counterparts of head arrangements exist. Bulbous light-grey pseudo-neck, without gill suggestions, holds greenish five-pointed starfish-arrangement. Tough, muscular arms 4 feet long and tapering from 7 inches diameter at base to about 2.5 at point. To each point is attached small end of a greenish five-veined membraneous triangle 8 inches long and 6 wide at farther end. This is the paddle, fin, or pseudo-foot which has made prints in rocks from a thousand million to fifty or sixty million years old. From inner angles of starfish-arrangement project two-foot reddish tubes tapering from 3 inches diameter at base to 1 at tip. Orifices at tips. All these parts infinitely tough and leathery, but extremely flexible. Four-foot arms with paddles undoubtedly used for locomotion of some sort, marine or otherwise. When moved, display suggestions of exaggerated muscularity. As found, all these projections tightly folded over pseudo-neck and end of torso, corresponding to projections at other end."

Precise FAST observations reveal circular polarization in active repeating fast radio bursts A research team led by Prof. LI Di from the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC) has revealed circular polarization in active repeating fast radio bursts based on precise observations of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST). Their findings were published in Science Bulletin. Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are the most luminous radio flashes in the universe. The estimated equivalent energy of one FRB event can rival that of the Sun in a whole day or even a month to a year. Since the first FRB was reported in 2007, more than 600 FRB sources have been discovered, the majority of which have only been detected once. Less than 5% of all FRBs have repeated bursts, among which less than 10 can be described as active. As one of the basic properties of electromagnetic waves, polarization carries critical information about FRBs' intrinsic properties and their environments. Many common light sources, including incandescent light bulbs and most stars such as our Sun, emit unpolarized light. Linear polarization has been detected in almost all repeating FRBs. Circular polarization, however, remains relatively rare. Only one repeating FRB, namely FRB20201124A, has been reported with circular polarization. FRB20121102A is the first known repeater. FRB20190520B, discovered by the Commensal Radio Astronomy FAST Survey (CRAFTS), is the first persistently active repeater known. They are the only repeaters found to be associated with persistent radio sources (PRSs), which could be a sign of their youthfulness and related to their hyper-active nature. FAST managed to capture extremely active episodes for these two FRBs, which has allowed for precise characterization of their polarization. Through systematic data analysis, the researchers detected circular polarization in less than 5% of the bursts from both FRBs. The maximum degree of circular polarization was as much as 64%. The large degree of circular polarization disfavors multi-path propagation as the cause. The currently viable hypotheses include Faraday conversion and/or a radiation mechanism intrinsic to the source. As of now, circular polarization occurs apparently more often in non-repeaters than in repeaters. The conditions for generating circular polarization in repeating FRBs should thus be rarer. This work increases the number of repeating FRBs with circular polarization from one to three. The detection of circular polarization in FRB20121102A, 20190520B, and 20201124A may suggest that circular polarization is a common trait, although occurring sporadically, in repeating FRBs. Further systematic and precise characterization of polarization by FAST will shed new light on the emission mechanism of FRBs and eventually help reveal the origin of such mysterious events in our dynamic Universe.
