needed to talk about something that’s making me anxious lately with my therapist but by the time my appointment came i was too anxious to talk about it

Working in community things is so surreal, sometimes. Last week it was a guy telling me he was too depressed to get out of his house, and all i could say was "hope it gets better soon", today its a colleague crying during our team meeting, voice breaking while she's saying "I feel like i'm putting a Band-Aids on a sinking boat".

We used to offer a warm bowl of soup and a place to chat for lonely people. Now there's a line out in the street cause too many people need that soup not as an excuse to not be alone, but because they will not be able to eat anything else that day. Meanwhile middle class citizens are using fancy apps on their phone to order soon to be expired items from grocerie stores, thinking they're saving the world while they're actually just cutting that from our own food banks, who now receive less and less from grocerie store while there are more people than ever who needs it.

I'm not really trying to make a point here, there is just such a disconnect in this world that i honestly think no other generation had to deal with like this. I see the grocerie stores throwing out the food. I watch the people on the street, freezing in the -20 winter morning. And if i open my phone, all i see are wars and genocides and heat waves. So i close my phone, give 5$ to a homeless man and i try not to think about the Band-Aids on the sinking boat.

Before he turns on the sink, something catches his eye and he pauses. His fingers, which are supposed to be white, have turned gray, the colour extending halfway down his palm and down the back of his hand. It seemed to almost appear like the rocks in the garden, with the rough texture and the various shades splattered around.

Dream’s pretty sure his fingers are supposed to white.
