Round 3, Match 2: Cheng Qian vs Jiang Cheng
Tumblr media
Match 2 is between Cheng Qian (shixiong: Yan Zhengming) from Liu Yao: The Revitalization of Fuyao Sect vs Jiang Cheng (shixiong: Wei Wuxian) from Mo Dao Zu Shi
Propaganda under the cut
Cheng Qian:
Cheng Qian and Yan Zhengming end up together. Most of it is spoilers, but they're very cute! Yan Zhengming nicknamed him Tong Qian / Copper Coin
#some of yall didnt read 6yao and yall are missing out#bby cheng qian puppy crushing on his shixiong and beating up anyone who mockingly calls his shixiong princesse#cause thats his high maintenance princess thank you
#I NEED cheng qian to win#he went through so much to get that pillow princess shixiong dick
Jiang Cheng:
Clinged to WWX constantly for 7+ years, wanted to have WWX as his right hand man forever after becoming sect leader, cried after WWX left, cried when he discovered what WWX sacrificed for him, was TORN APART when it got explained to him that if they were more outwardly close knit, WWX might not have died
PROPAGANDA!! to start, i'm still very bitter about how fairy lost the sentient animal poll and i want to win this badly. very very badly. current stats are 50.6 in favour of jc but that's too less of a gap for me. jc should be winning this by a landslide, y'all hear me? anyways. starting with a class act, like the clown i am->
Tumblr media
64.media.tumblr.com
a few links ( because i'm chengxian trash, as always and i'd love if poll-guy could copy paste them on the og post): one, two, three, four (gif), five, six, seven (gif), eight (thoughts on different wavelengths), the absolute circles of them saving each other, the fucking golden core reveal scene. golden scene reveal part 2, jiang cheng will always forgive wei wuxian
to start with. jiang cheng is literally the picture of "i knew from the moment i met you that i'd spend a lifetime forgiving you".
the earliest dynamic of jiang cheng and wei wuxian is jiang cheng giving away his dogs (the only gift his father has ever given him, btw) because wei wuxian is scared of the dogs. tis only the start of it.
his father very obviously prefers his shixiong over him, his mother berates him for not being as good as wei wuxian and tells him his inheritance is in danger, and his sister (in my opinion) has more care for him (visibly. maybe jiang yanli doesn't show it because jc is an emotionally complicated purple grape, maybe because jc doesn't need it, or wei wuxian is traumatised but that's my opinion). but still. still. Jiang Cheng loves Wei Wuxian. so much. jealousy is like. the most tame response i can think of. and jiang cheng is proud of wei wuxian, okay? he'd believe his big brother if he'd said anything. want proof? well, here you go-> link
to paraphrase the link:
Jiang Cheng had just lost his family, his home, and his very golden core, and his older brother - his brilliant older brother who could fix anything, who could sneak wine into Cloud Recesses and defeat an ancient turtle nearly-god and make Jiang Cheng share a smile when Jiang Cheng’s mother was disappointed and furious at both of them - His big brother smiled and said, “I can fix this.”And Jiang Cheng believed him then, and believed him three months later when Wei Wuxian crawled out of the Burial Mounds (just the second miracle in three months), and believed him every day of the next seventeen(?) years until the pieces were shoved into place for him to see.
also. the circle these two go in protecting each other. (gif set by @sandushengshou), the 'if one of us is to die, then, i beg, let it be me' that they both do for one another in a seemingly neverending loop of sacrifice. via this post a la my lovely @backtoyunmeng
Tumblr media
64.media.tumblr.com
jiang cheng is a cannonically ruined woman archetype, justified via the countless posts you'll get in the top posts of jiang cheng tag. he keeps chenqing, wwx's flute in perfect condition even when he hates wei wuxian, even when wwx, if only indirectly, has a part in jiang yanli's murder and oof okay someone pointed out to him that he's known to have killed wei wuxian and he almost cries. he absolutely believes, with his whole heart, that wei wuxian lives even when the world is sure he doesnt. and it always read to me like, i'd know if he was dead. he's a part of my soul, so i'd know if he was dead. he can't be dead.
this is getting too long, so, to sum up, some absolute poetry by @jiangchengsjawline
Tumblr media
64.media.tumblr.com
#JC On The Other Hand Has His Entire Life Shaped By His Shixiong And Ended Up Cast As The Ruined Woman By The End
#jiang cheng though. wasn't able to fuck his shixiong but his shixiong definitely fucked with him
#hello?? the answer is Jiang cheng pls#he's the shixiongfucker or all shixiong fucker you wish you could be as pathetically in love with your shixiong as he is#chengxian
#i do not go here (chengxian) but the propaganda is incredibly correct they are insane abt each other#also sorry jiang cheng ik you're suffering but they are so funny to me#neway VOTE JIANG CHENG FOR CLEAR SKIN
#look I rarely go here#(here being chengxian)#but by GOD their lvoe compels me#they’re tragic and doomed and they love each other without knowing how to say it in words the other would understand#or in words at all because communication??? we don’t know her???
Tumblr media
64.media.tumblr.com
he didn't even think about sacrificing himself, and consequently his entire bloodline, his sect, pretty much everything that depends on him for his shixiong??????????
is this not convincing->
Tumblr media
64.media.tumblr.com
#had to vote jc though i have more feelings about chengxian#i think jc should have a huge gege kink
#like. jiang cheng should win the entire tournament hands down period

(A/N: Look who’s posting another BNHA fic!! I know I posted one yesterday but I really wanted to do this one cause I thought it was so cute 🥺💞💞 I hope you like this, darling!!)
Summary: You start to believe maybe you’re supposed to be here. Supposed to be held captive by a man who loves you, even if he was a nit delusional (Yan!Deku x GN!Reader)

Tumblr media
Part One: Here ♡
Part Two: Here ♡
Part Three: Here ♡ (this isn’t really a part four but those fics are connected to this one)
You turn towards the front door, watching as Izuku and Isamu enter. “Mommy/Daddy!” Isamu smiles, hurriedly taking off her shoes and throwing them into the corner of the genkan. Isamu has just gotten out of daycare, excited to show you the drawing she had done for you.
“It for you!” Isamu cheers, holding out a slightly crumbled piece of paper for you. Her father, Izuku, takes off his own shoes before entering the apartment. He had had a long day of hero work but seeing you and his daughter always made him so much better. Isamu hands you the paper before throwing her plushie backpack off, so she can crawl up onto the couch next to you. The three year old was practically buzzing with excitement, waiting for your reaction to her drawing that she had worked so hard on.
You look down at the drawing. It’s just a bunch of colorful scribbles done with crayons. You’re not exactly sure what it’s supposed to be however you turn to the toddler with a large smile. “It’s so great!” You praise, wanting to ruffle her hair however you couldn’t as it was tied into two messy pigtails with hair bobbles. So instead you simply place your hand in top of her head. Isamu only giggles, enjoying the affection you’re giving her.
“Sweet pea, what do we say?” Izuku questions, looking at his daughter. Isamu only lets out an ‘oh’ before turning back to you. “Thank you, mommy/daddy!” She says, listening to her father. He had recently been having to remind her to use her manners, as she normally got to excited and forgot to use them.
“Hello, darling” Izuku says, now addressing you. You glance down at the couch. “Hello Izuku” you mutter, fiddling with your fingers. Izuku can feel his eyes widen slightly, you never addressed him. You were always so scared of him. Izuku can feel the heat rise in his cheeks, you seemed more excepting of your situation now. And, you were.
You recognize that you won’t be able to escape. You’ll never be able to go back to your old life. And maybe, just maybe, that could be a good thing. You got to spend time with the greatest toddler in the entire universe. And, if you really think about Izuku wasn’t that bad. He was kind to you, he complemented you, took care of you, loved you. Perhaps fate had brought you two together, even through strange ways. Whether you like it or not, he did truly make you feel special. Perhaps it was just stockholm syndrome setting in. Either way, you could genuinely see a future with him.
However your newfound acceptance of this life, didn’t mean you still weren’t a bit shy around him. Often avoiding his gaze and often finding yourself flustered. “Pumpkin, do you want to order takeout tonight or do you want me to cook something?” Izuku asks, directing his attention at you. Even though he’s asking you, Isamu gladly yells “Takeout!”
“Oh, I was actually wondering if you wanted me to cook tonight” you continue “You’re always cooking food and stuff so I thought maybe I could do it tonight” you say, watching both Isamu’s and Izuku’s faces light up. Isamu always helps cook dinner so she was excited to cook with you. Meanwhile, everything was falling into place for Izuku. His daughter, a beautiful s/o who took care of them. Yes, you all were finally becoming it.
The perfect family.

@megumitodoroki: “headcannons (maybe a drabble if you want??) for yan tamaki and yan kirishima with a pregnant darling? ( i saw the hawks and bakugo one, i really liked!!!)”
characters: yandere kirishima ejirou, tamaki amajiki x fem! reader
request status: OPENED / all fandoms I write for are pinned to the top of my page as well as my rules! feel free to request as you’d like! just please be respectful of my rules and if you have any questions, personally message me!
kirishima ejirou:
Tumblr media
oooh, fuck, really? you got pregnant with HIS baby? fuck. i mean, kirishima is a great husband, for the MOST part. his issue 99.9999% of the time is that he’s too fucking clingy and it shows. even if he isn’t laying it on thick, everyone can see the way he is around you.
lets say you weren’t home when he found out. you went through the five stages of grief when you found out. the stick was in your hand as you stared at the wall in panic. you were in no mindset to be carrying a child and you knew there would be consequences the longer you waited to tell him.
at first, you planned to end it all and just put you and the fetus out of misery but then you realized.....kiri locked all the knifes, sharp objects, and anything you could think of hurting yourself with away. you knew regardless of what you were thinking, you were going to have his kid whether you wanted too or not.
when kiri came home, you were still in the same position in the bathroom and holding onto the stick in your hand. when he realized what it was, he let out a high pitched scream. you’re pregnant !! like this wasn’t something he was expecting to happen just yet but here you were !! pregnant with his kid.
the first thing he did was make an appointment for you. he needed to know how far along you were and when your projected birth date was. the doctor hadn’t been able to pinpoint what the sex was yet but he didn’t care !! his child was going to be the next red riot !! he was going to make sure of it !!
months into the pregnancy, he started to fix up the nursery. while you were still miserable in the fact that you were pregnant, you knew you got nothing out of loathing from the news and tried to look at the silver linings in all of it. maybe kiri would lay off the rules and give you some freedom. he was already acting different.
when you were in pain, he would be at your call. when he was at work, he made sure someone was there with you. what if something went wrong? he couldn’t trust you on your own. when your mood swings were bad, he would listen to you for once and keep his distance when you asked. when you were starving, he would get whatever it is you wanted.
the nursery was red riot themed. little linings of red everywhere with black incorporated along with it. he had small figures of himself in the crib and on small shelfs around the room. kiri made sure to put pics of the two of you in the room so the kid could see the love you both had for each other. he even went out of his way to make mini outfits of his hero uniform that fit every time he assumed the kid would have a growth spurt.
lets say you end up finding out that you were having not only a boy, they were going to be twin boys, kiri fucking fainted. he doubled everything in the nursery and even built an extra room for the second baby. kiri was ecstatic to say the least. he never thought he’d get twins !! you on the other hand went through another phase of grief knowing that you were carrying twins and that meant that kiri was going to be home more than you wanted him to be.
when you finally go into labor, kiri dropped everything he was doing and fucking SPEED RAN to the hospital. when he got there, you were already under epidural and trying to calm yourself down. the pain was unbearable, even with the epidural. he could see the pain on your face and wanted to cry right along with you. you were even holding onto him, hoping that he did something right for once and tried to calm you down.
when you finally gave birth, kiri bawled like a child. they were both out within a few minutes and while you held one baby, kiri held the other. they had his black hair and your skin tone. he had never seen three beautiful people in his life and here you were, his wife and kids. his life was complete.
tamaki amajiki:
Tumblr media
okay cool, tamaki is not horrible yandere so you’re relatively safe for the most part. the thing with tamaki that makes it unbearable to live with is that you can’t do shit. he’s terrified of you even breathing the wrong way tbh. he won’t let you leave the house bc he’s afraid something will happen to you.
the day you found out you were pregnant with his baby, it was bittersweet. you were excited bc although he had abducted and was holding you hostage in his home, tamaki as a person was not a horrible person. he wasn’t mirio and he def wasn’t nejire. you had been feeling sick for a while and every morning you woke up you ran to the bathroom vomiting your guts out.
you refused to tell tamaki bc you knew he would go into full panic if you did. you just had told mirio in secret to bring you a test and drop it off. when he did, you quickly ran to the bathroom and took the test. you were clawing the counter in a bout of anxiety and as soon as the clear blue test rang up positive, you felt dizzy in the head and fell on top of mirio who had offered to stay.
he quickly fanned you as he basically screamed to tamaki to get his ass home. tamaki had dropped everything he was doing and ran to his house. he had no idea why mirio was there and bc the emergency was abt you, he booked it even faster. when he finally got there, you were chugging back a hydroflask full of water and murmured to him the news.
tamaki basically passed out three different times hearing the news. it took mirio, a call to nejire, and yourself to get him out of it. when he finally stopped fainting and realized what you had said, he gave you a long hug, murmuring that finally it happened. he had been wanting kids for so long, as weird as it sounds. he was nervous wreck almost all the time but he wanted to continue his family line with you and hopefully they ended up with your personality.
he scheduled your first doctor appointment a few weeks later and at that appointment, the two of you had found out the exact date and gender. you were having a baby girl !! tamaki was dumbfounded. he was expecting a boy but he wasn’t complaining. he was getting a mini you !! another to love and take care of. that meant that no hero course for his baby girl. nope !! business or support course at the very least.
her nursery consisted of small sun eater figures and outfits. every now and again, he would had lemillion and nejire-chan themed things. your daughter would have mini outfits of all three of them and would have plushies of the three of them in the crib. hell, even the crib set was the big three themed. he and mirio had painted a mural for her and added photos of all four of you to make sure that even if his daughter didn’t have anyone to be her friend, the four of you would always be there.
he didn’t take your change in moods well. frankly, he was terrified of you. there would be days where you would unleash your anger like never before and other days, you’d be sobbing to him. the food you did make though was AMAZING. it was a weird combination that always turned out amazing at the end.
fat gum and kirishima were surprised but excited to hear the news. they bought her a bunch of red riot and fat gum themed clothes as well and fat gum would even bring you food when he was in the area. you were so important to tamaki and he knew that so he had to make sure that you were also important to him too. tamaki upon telling mirio and nejire that you were pregnant told them they were the god parents so they were almost just as protective over you like tamaki was.
the day you gave birth, tamaki was home with you. you were just laying in bed when your water broke and he drove you to the hospital like he was in fast and furious. you were taken back by his actions but he practically screamed at the nurses as soon as you arrived to help you. he made sure to scream to them to give you epidural the minute you asked and if any of them even slipped up once, tamaki would have blood on his hands a few days later, making sure he took care of those useless nurses and doctors. tamaki in this setting was not one to mess with, that’s to say the least.
when you finally gave birth, he cried a bit but not as much as you expected. the time he did cry was when he held his daughter and looked at the two of you. his life was perfect. you had a healthy daughter and you were relatively okay yourself post-birth. the only other time he cried was when he made the three-way call to mirio, fat gum, and nejire to tell them you had finally given birth and all of you were okay.

Hi! Hope your doing well! Could write a wholesome !Yan human! Kyubey scenario? Any other character works fine too! As long as your having fun. ^_^
Oooohhh, my first scenario! I'm so happy to finally do that, even though I really enjoy writing headcannons as well. I'm actually working on other two ones at the moment but decided to post this since scenarios take less to write. I assume, at least-
Also you guys can read the yandere human Kyubey headcannons in order for this to make more sense since there's lore and everything:
Tw;
Yandere stuff (This one is wholesome so not many tws :D)
(Spoilers For Puella Magi Madoka Magica ahead?)
A human thing
Tumblr media
Another day of witch-hunting. Another day of almost dying. You've only been a magical girl for three weeks and yet it feels as if you made your contract just yesterday. Well, at least you weren't alone.
"Are you going to pick it up? No? Alright, I suppose that's a human thing."
A male voice sighed. That voice belonged to Kyubey, your teammate and enemy, in a way. Your whole wish was centered on making pay by making human. By making him a magical boy. By making him suffer just like your friend did... Yet you've slowly learned to tolerate him after all those weeks. Maybe giving him emotions wasn't a right decision though. Now he can be cocky.
"Hey, I was just thinking! Something you don't do, apparently."
You responded and picked up the last grief seed for the day. You gathered four today, which would probably last you two for a couple of days. You'd tease eachother a lot, you couldn't tell if it was genuine hatred or just teasing. He wasn't too happy about the fact he's a human at first; and trying to figure out what someone who appears to be emotionless is thinking isn't exactly easy.
Kyubey just rolled his eyes and chuckled to himself, watching you pout at him. He couldn't understand why it made him chuckle or feel "happy" in general. If that emotion was happiness, that is. He still wasn't good with distinguishing emotions.
The two of you returned home, you changing to your pyjamas immediately. After fighting with four witches you were super exhausted; and just wanted a good night's sleep.
“(Y/N)...”
“What is it? I'm tired, you know. It's Saturday tomorrow, you'll have all day to annoy me.”
“..Nothing.”
And so Kyubey watched you walk up the stairs before disappearing into the darkness of the hallway. He wanted to talk with you about this recent new...emotion. The reason he smiles everytime you say good morning even though it's not something exciting, the reason he chuckles at you pouting even though there's nothing comedic about it. But you were tired.
Instead; he waited a few minutes at the living room and made his way to your room, being as careful as possible to not wake you up. Then, he sat on the bed, next to you. You looked so peaceful at the moment, it amused him how humans could lay on an object without moving at all for so many hours. Well; it was an advantage for him.
“I'm not really sure of how easily humans can go out of this state but I'm willing to risk it. This feeling is rather unbearable...I feel the need to verbally state it, even if you're unable to hear me.”
His hot pink eyes gazed directly to your closed ones, staring for a bit. The same eyes that looked right into your soul that day when you were walking home with your friend.
“I feel weird when you're around. It's not a bad feeling; it feels pleasant. Really really pleasant. Sometimes it changes pattern though. I saw you walking here with a male student through the window yesterday....
It didn't feel pleasant at all.”
He almost sounded angry this time. He's never felt angry before. Except for yesterday; of course. Suddenly something made him snap out of his thoughts though. You were whimpering in your sleep, even though he wasn't exactly sure what that meant. So he just stood there awkwardly.
Until you reached out for him.
You were still sleeping when you grabbed his hand in your sleep, almost literally forcing him to lay down with you. That new emotion he was feeling was really taking over right now. His face was more pink than his own eyes right now.
“I...suppose that's a human thing too.”
﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋
I apologize if that was a bit short! I'm still not that much of an expert when it comes to scenarios- I'll try to improve them in the future. I hope this was close to what you were hoping for though dear anon!
Have a wonderful day/night and I'll see you guys really soon! 💖💗

WELL. Episode 3 of Word of Honor.
First of all: If you are NEW or JUST VISITING, this is a re-watch, so there are SPOILERS not just for this ep, but for the ENTIRE SHOW. A lot of them, actually. Scroll away and come back later if you haven’t seen all 36.5 eps and want to watch it unspoiled.
So, this ep feels a little disjointed. I don’t think it actually is, not in the way the back nine are a speedrun where the writing starts to feel like it’s thisclose to coming off the rails, but it feels like it, in that we’re now getting a double handful of threads thrust at us that are only just starting to be woven together into a plot, and it’s the kind of hot mess that any fiberwork looks like before the pattern starts to show itself, particularly when you’re using 15 different color threads from jump. There’s generally a major theme or issue or overriding concept that stands out to me in each ep that, you may have noticed, gets primacy of place in these reactions, but honestly, y’all, I really struggled to figure out what that might be for this episode, because a lot of this, on re-watch, strikes me as groundwork for later developments. Wen Kexing gives us an “as you know, Bob” speech about the Amory and the Glazed Armor, we meet approx. 3.2K new characters, and I feel sort of like I should start keeping a chart of who’s supposed to have a piece of the Glazed Armor and who actually does have a piece of the Glazed Armor, but it’s already so confusing that it might be too late.*
ANYWAY, on re-watch, I can absolutely see the value of spending Eps 1 & 2 on introducing us to Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing and getting us pulled into their orbit, because then we have scenes we’re already invested in to maintain our interest as the background politics begin to frustratingly play out with a bunch of people we don’t know or have any investment in yet. I mean, y’all. I forgot just what an ill-tempered gremlin ZZS was in these early eps. He is so fk’n put out that these people will not let him drink himself to death in the gutter in peace! Or, you know, in occasional Nightly Nails Torment. And the exasperation from both ZZS and Chengling over WKX’s antics – both of their faces are priceless in the scene when they discover he’s the one who’s bought out all the rooms at the inn. I literally lol’d. Again. Even knowing it was coming. All of this interaction is so delightful. This is actually the ep that provoked my very first WoH keysmash flailing Tumblr post and inaugurated the “wen kexing’s thirst is practically a third character” tag. I guess the biggest throughline for this ep is that we can continue to see how everything changes when we know about their previous relationship – things like WKX’s insistence that they have a “deep bond through fate” take on additional layers of meaning rather than just sounding like some dude who’s trying to pick you up at last call. Interesting that ZZS describes WKX at one point during their push-pull conversational dance as “like a wretched soul that keeps haunting around.” You mean, like a GHOST? Like a Ghost Valley ghost? Like the almost forgotten memory of a past life ghost? ZZS wants to know why WKX keeps following him around, and it would be nice if WKX would just come clean, but that would be too easy, wouldn’t it?
ZZS, re: Chengling: I do my best to ensure what was entrusted to me.
WKX: :makes (already! in ep 3!) yet another in a series of bad decisions not to say anything about the fact that he, himself, was in fact entrusted to ZZS:
Show: Here’s the first of many helpings of heartache to come. EAT IT. EAT IT ALL.
(Me: Well, here’s another AU idea: What would the course of this relationship be like if WKX flat-out asked ZZS what ZZS’s relationship to Four Seasons Manor was, and bare-faced claimed sanctuary as long-lost shidi Zhen Yan at this point? Because I bet there are plenty of ways that could actually go wrong. Not to mention the deliciousness of just watching them navigate a relationship shift that sudden. I feel like, at this point, WKX would have to be actively confrontational about it, would have to throw it in ZZS’s face – it would need to be something he did in the heat of anger, in order to have this pushed out past all of his fears. Like, you say that, but where were you when I needed you? Also, you think so, well what if your responsibility actually turned out to be the TERRIFYING GHOST VALLEY MASTER, what then, huh? And ZZS, still pretty actively suicidal over all of his failures, having to deal with what’s now being presented as YET ANOTHER FAILURE.)
Also, the theme of “knowing” (zhiji, the one I know) is starting to slide in sideways – we’re seeing a lot of back and forth between them asking about seeing the other’s “true face.” WKX says that he’ll tell ZZS what he (WKX) wants from him once he gets to see ZZS’s true face (LIES, it’s going to take a lot longer than that). ZZS asks to see WKX’s figurative true face, and WKX looks kind of sad and contemplative as he warns that it may be unappealing or terrifying. So, you know, we’re starting to poke at all the softest, most tender places and the issues that are going to stab me repeatedly in the heart for the rest of the show. We’re also already seeing the way Xiao Chu just layered in references throughout the script when she wrote it that call back to each other – it’s like almost any line of dialogue references three other lines of dialogue (and that’s without even getting into all of the literary references that I’m missing because I don’t have cultural context). You get things like WKX’s little speech right at the end that it’s hard to tell a ghost from a human, which on its face might be referring to the two “ghosts” that were coming for Chengling that he took care of and act as an admonishment to ZZS not to be so quick to assume they’re actually from Ghost Valley, but it also refers to WKX, himself, and specifically lays the groundwork (“someone wearing a ghost mask is not necessarily a ghost”) for his conversation in a later ep with ZZS when he asks if ZZS thinks he’s a good person, and also calls back (“someone who looks human may not be human”) to the line from earlier in this ep, itself, when WKX tells ZZS that perhaps WKX’s true face is terrifying. And so we get a nicely little wrapped package of the dichotomy of WKX and his issues. (As a somewhat related aside, A-Xiang’s little face when Zhou Zishu says all of the ghosts of Ghost Valley are full of evil (at 6:55). D: This reaction is obviously for herself, but also may be the first time she acts as proxy for Wen Kexing, as well.)
What else, what else?
So, nobody has a good opinion of the jianghu. WKX is going to be constantly all, “You killed my father, jianghu, prepare to die,” but ZZS also goes off about how it’s just about greed, hatred and ignorance, and yeah, I guess he’d have a pretty bad impression of it, when Prince Jin and Tian Chuang seemed like a better option than the pressure he was facing, trying to keep Siji Manor Sect alive back in the day. We talk a lot about WKX’s childhood trauma, because it’s so awful and right in our faces, but I don’t know how much we actually talk about the fact that ZZS was a teenager not much older than Chengling when he inherited a sect and tried desperately to keep it from being torn apart by the rest of the jianghu. I think we see some bitterness come out in the first few episodes – frankly, in this ep, he doesn’t seem to make much of a distinction between Ghost Valley and the rest of the jianghu. Also interesting that the metaphor he uses about the jianghu’s and Ghost Valley’s greed for the treasures of the Armory is “reaping without sowing,” given what we find out is actually in there in Ep 36.
We see our metaphor of light get pulled out again – this throughline strikes me as more like beads on a string than a thread, at this point, but maybe I’ll notice it more on this second time through … Anyway, WKX’s comment at 9:11 that it’s almost dawn is notable. Indeed, but is it because your plan is beginning to work and you can see the destruction of Ghost Valley and the jianghu coming down the pike, or is it because you’ve found your shixiong?
I notice WKX has color-coordinated ZZS and Chengling in the robes he bought for them, has already grouped them together, marked them as belonging to each other – he’s already subtly treating them as each other’s family. The show, with a particular lack of subtlety, also will have ZZS there to wake up Chengling from nightmares later in the end of the ep, as Chengling calls out for his dad in his sleep.
OK, Deng Kuan is the guy in charge of the Yueyang sect contingent that arrived in time to see the Mirror Lake chaos in Ep 2 and has taken charge of cleaning up the bodies in this ep. I actually overlooked him, pretty much, the first time around, but here, he’s already got Shen Shen yelling at him (in a completely ridiculous fashion) for not getting there in time to save the Mirror Lake Sect, so he’s just going to be a punching bag through the whole show, apparently. Shen Shen is wu-di, fifth (little) brother, and he refers to Chengling’s dad as si-ge, fourth (older) brother, so Shen Shen appears to be the youngest of the Five Lakes sworn brothers, leading me to believe that some of what makes him so insufferable through a lot of the show is baby brother syndrome. Also, Shen Shen and his group find the Soul Winding Threads of the Hanged Ghost … supposedly. I mean, the Hanged Ghost was the guy who we saw get got in Ep 1, soooooo …. (remember these Soul Winding Threads, btw).
*This got super long so I’m’a put this last bit under a cut, but I did try to start a running tally of who’s holding a piece of the Glazed Armor:
Each of the Five Lakes Alliance sects is supposed to have a piece of the Glazed Armor, yes? So, as of the end of Ep 3 (hierarchical bro-titles are from didi Shen Shen’s POV):
- Yueyang Sect, led by Gao Chong (da-ge) - presumably still has his
- Tai Hu Sect, led by Zhao Jing (er-ge) – presumably still has his
- Danyang Sect, led by Lu Taichong (san-ge, presumably) – apparently the sect has already been attacked off-screen (by “Ghost Valley?” and WHEN?), as we learn in Ep 3 that Lu-zongzhu has been killed and his remaining two tiny disciples have fled to the protection of Ao Laizi and Tai Shan Sect, one of the lesser sects, and are believed to have taken Danyang’s Glazed Armor with them. We learn this from Tao Hong, Lv Liu and Begger Gang Chief, but I notice that Gao Chong only mentions the Mirror Lake massacre as the precipitating event for the Hero’s Conference and total war on Ghost Valley – he doesn’t even mention Danyang Sect, so does Five Lakes not know about this yet?
- Mirror Lake Sect, led by Zhang Yusen (si-ge) – Zhang-zongzhu killed by “Ghost Valley” in Ep 2, Glazed Armor “missing” and speculated POST EP 2 to have been taken by Ghost Valley (but will turn up in a few eps, thanks to our little Goldbean)
- Dagu Shan Sect, led by Shen Shen (wu-di) – presumably still has his
And then we move to:
- Tai Shan Sect, led by Ao Laizi – in-world speculation is that he now has the Danyang Glazed Armor. We do see him near the end of the ep with the two tiny Danyang shidi, where he makes the intriguing comment that he’s going to follow their shifu’s last wishes and keep their Glazed Armor from falling into the hands of the Five Lakes Alliance, so what exactly was going on between San-ge and his sworn brothers at the time of his death? This group also is apparently being pursued by Shen Shen to get their Glazed Armor, and they make him sound awful. You need better PR, Shen Shen.
- Ghost Valley – POST EP 2, speculated to have taken the Mirror Lake Glazed Armor (FALSE)
NOTABLY, “Ghost Valley Master” set a lot of this chaos in motion in Ep 1 when he claimed that Hanged Ghost (who got got a scene earlier) had stolen HIS piece of the Glazed Armor, although he shouldn’t have a piece (supposedly) until after Ep 2, when he’s believed to have taken Mirror Lake’s. So, what piece would that be, exactly, Terrifying Ghost Valley Master? You wouldn’t be lying in pursuit of chaos would you? (Somewhere, WKX gasps theatrically behind his fan, and he doesn’t even know what motivated it, this time.)

Chapter 16
TW: Mentions of kidnapping
Lupin returns to the office with three tired-looking yet dressed Gryffindors and a grumpy Sirius Black. Black is angry since his beauty sleep was interrupted. “Why are we here, Albus? It is past midnight!” Black exclaims.
Snape glares at him while Dumbledore gives him a sad smile. “Y/N has been kidnapped, Sirius. You will have to save her” the Headmaster states.
That caught the attention of the four tired people. Now they are wide awake. Black gulps. He feels a bit bad now that he complained about his sleep.
“We should probably leave now. The Winx and the others are waiting” Faragonda states. They all nod as Faragonda opens the portal.
Snape is the first one to enter - without hesitation. Lupin is next followed by Black. The Trio looks a bit hesitant but follows as well. Faragonda bids Dumbledore and McGonagall goodbye as she enters the portal as well.
“I do hope their mission will end well” McGonagall says in a whisper, looking really worried.
Dumbledore nods. “So do I, Minerva. So do I” he simply says, hoping they will save Y/N in time.
The seven people then appear in the Winx Club dimension, right outside the Castle of Domino. The Trio is stunned by its beauty.
They then notice a red spaceship. “What is that?” Ron whispers to his friends.
“It’s a spaceship. It’s usually used in space, maybe they use it here like they would use an airplane?” Harry questions, confused yet curious.
Ron is looking more confused now. “What’s an airplane?” he asks, having no clue.
Hermione rolls her eyes at him. “An airplane is a Muggle machine that transports people from one destination to another. It can hold hundreds of people, sometimes even thousands” Hermione states.
“Wow. Wait until my dad hears that. He will beg my mum to travel with one of those for our next holiday, I’m sure of it” Ron says in awe.
Harry snorts. “You kind of sound like Malfoy” Harry says in a teasing tone, referring to Draco Malfoy’s most used line “My father will hear about this”.
Ron looks angry at Harry. “Shut up, Harry!” he exclaims, not happy about his comment.
They are then greeted by the Winx, the Specialists, Valtor, Laura and Vera. The two latter run up to the Trio and hug them. “We are so glad to see you guys! Y/N has been kidnapped, once again!” Vera exclaims while looking sad at them.
The three Gryffindors give the two girls a sad smile. “It’s good to see you, too. And we know, that’s why we are here. We have come to help save Y/N” Harry reassures them.
Ron leans into them. “And Snape was the first one to get here. You should have seen him, he didn’t think twice about it - I have never seen him so angry yet worried before” he whispers, still surprised at that.
Ron is quite oblivious to the Potions Master’s feelings for the girl, so is Harry.
Laura and Vera both giggle at that. “I wonder why” Laura says as she smirks a bit, knowing exactly why the Potions Master acted like that.
They all then turn their attention to Faragonda. “All right, we are all here. You will have to fly to Darkar’s fortress in Shadow Haunt. Winx, I advise you to only transform when you are out of the ship. You should not waste your powers as it will drain your energy. I also advise you all to stop at some point to get some much needed rest - you could all use it” she says as she looks at Bloom, Stella, Laura, Vera, Ron and Black who are all yawning.
They all nod as they wave goodbye to the Headmistress of Alfea and enter the ship.
“So, what do you guys say - get our rest now or wait until we are closer to Shadow Haunt?” Nabu asks.
Riven chuckles. “By the look of the many people in here, I’d say we should probably get that rest now” he suggests.
Musa huffs. “I can’t believe I’m actually agreeing with Riven, but I am. We are all way too tired to travel right now” she states. Everybody nods in agreement.
The Winx girls conjure some madrases for people to sleep on. Bloom and Sky are sharing one. Stella with Brandon, Flora with Helia, Tecna with Timmy, Layla with Nabu, Laura with Vera, Harry with Ron and Hermione and Lupin with Black.
Musa and Riven have agreed to sleep separately. Otherwise, they would just kill each other in their sleep.
Valtor and Snape also have their own. There is no one here they would ever dream to share a madras with. Except for one, but she is kind of unavailable right now. Which is exactly why they are on this very mission.
They all quickly fall asleep. Except for Valtor and Snape who are both worried about Y/N, a lot. Is she all right?
Valtor notices that Snape is the only one besides him who is still awake. “Can’t sleep, huh?” he asks him.
Snape sighs. “Obviously not” he says in a sarcastic tone.
Valtor chuckles. “Are you worried about Y/N? I know I am. If only I had not left her alone in the garden to go and get us some drinks, then this would not have happened” Valtor sighs as he blames himself.
That caught Snape’s attention. Were they alone? In a garden? He starts to feel a bit jealous. He also gets a bit angry that he left her alone. He decides not to say anything, though. They both fall asleep too after a while.
The next morning, they are all well rested and ready to leave. Especially Snape and Valtor who haven’t even gotten that much sleep due to worrying about Y/N.
As they are finally flying into the air and heading towards Shadow Haunt, Stella suddenly realises something. “Ugh! We didn’t get to shop for a new outfit for our mission!” she exclaims, worried about their outfit.
All the Winx and the Specialists yell “Stella!” in unison as they are annoyed at her shopping addiction.
She merely huffs. “Ugh, all right, fine” she says while still thinking about shopping, though.
Meanwhile, Snape rolls his eyes at her. Seriously, is that insolent girl thinking about shopping now? He cannot believe his own ears. Teenage girls.

MO YUAN AND SHAO WAN in the most recent Pillowbook Extra   :   A Compilation   -   because Admin Ro knows you’re gonna ask, so she’s delivering before you ask ;)
i.
Though Father God did not like Mo Yuan's hands to be covered in blood and for him to stop war with more war, it had only been seven hundred years since Mo Yuan came between the war of the five clans before he led the celestial gods into victory against the Ghost Clan and the Sprite Clan and ended the battles between the five clans that had lasted hundreds of thousands of years. The era of war between heaven and earth had finally drawn to a close.
After this, the Ghost Clan and the Sprite Clan became subsidiary to the Celestial Clan, and the weak Human Clan became protected by the Celestial Clan as well, even if they did not need to pay tribute or bow to them. The Demon Clan was also confined to the Southern Wilderness according to the treaty signed between the two clans.
After hundreds of thousands of years of chaos, the universe seemed to welcome a long reign of peace. High God Mo Yuan was about to perform the investiture of the gods of the eight wildernesses at the peak of the nine heavens, ending the era of the old gods and welcoming the age of the new gods to create stable order between heaven and earth. But during this time when he had little time for anything else, the ancestral goddess of the Demon Clan, Shao Wan, who had always sympathized with the Human Clan, had burned through the Ruomu Door that separated the Realms with the ten billion mortal realms with the soul-fire of a Phoenix and sent the Human Clan to the billions of mortal realms. She herself, having used up all of her immortal power, feathered and turned to ash.
At this time, the evil breath of the ten billion mortal realms had been placated, but it still soared with burning wind and burned, and was not a place where the Human Clan could thrive. But to this, Shao Wan already had a plan - before she gave up her soul, she went personally to Guyao Mountain to ask for the help of the light god Zuti, who had been in seclusion there.
Zuti went directly to the mortal realms after Shao Wan feathered at her request, and sacrificed herself to the chaos to give birth to all things so that the Human Clan can live peacefully in the Mortal Realms and helped the Human Clan separate from the Four Seas and Eight Wildernesses of the gods entirely, and thus ended their hundreds of thousands of years of relying on other strong clans and inevitable fate of becoming extinguished with time.
Shao Wan feathered. The Ruomu door opened. The Human Clan moved. Zuti sacrificed to the chaos. The heavens and earth were shaken, and the four clans gossiped among themselves.
In the Eight Wildernesses, there were clear-sighted elders within the Sprite Clan that privately agreed - according to Mo Yuan's steely methods and unfeeling heart, since the Demon Clan has lost their leader God Shao Wan, he would, of course, take up arms and horses and raze the Demon Clan to the ground and complete his great work of uniting the heavens and the earth. The Investiture of the gods would probably be postponed indefinitely.
But, outside the bounds of the predictions of these wise elders, the Celestial Clan did not ready their armor and  set up their soldiers. Six days later, the ceremony of investiture happened on time at the peak of the nine heavens.
On the day of the ceremony, upon the highest seat, High God Mo Yuan wore white robes and his face was like jade. The handsome god, having changed out of the heavy armor and back into light-colored robes, seemed to have returned to the graceful, elegant young man of the Water Marsh palace of learning who had been like the orchid of the mountain. But it was, after all, different. The cruel fight and killing on the battlefield for seven hundred years had painted the orchid with blood, and that grace that had previously been stainless and pure was now mixed with ruthlessness and the stench of blood. The force and power that was hidden deep within his gaze had become the force of a god king.
The ceremony of investiture continued for seven days. Since Pangu's splitting of the sky and the earth, after nearly five hundred thousand years, in the eight wildernesses, there was, for the first time, gods at their posts, and in the universe there was, for the first time, a tome of rules that decreed the order the five clans must keep, symbolizing the final end of the chaotic and war-filled era of the ancient time.
Every leader of the three clans, gods, ghosts and sprites alike, were commanded by the young High God who wore light-colored robes but had such a forceful presence and believed deeply that under the rule of this God King, that era of endless, hopeless war really would end, and a peaceful era would arrive.
But what no living thing in the eight wildernesses could have predicted was that three months after the ceremony of investiture of the gods and the four clans had begun on the right path, the God King they had placed their faith in and relied on disappeared.
The gods looked in heaven and earth for him for three years, and no one could find any trace of him. Everyone finally accepted that their God King had vanished, abandoning what he had barely built. But no one knew the reason for why he did this.
Some young god who liked to read plays in his spare time and had a great imagine theorized to his friend: "Do you think his disappearance is due to God Shao Wan? See, God Shao Wan had only feathered for a short while before he decided to disappear. Legend says that during their time at the Water Marsh palace of learning, he had some feeling for Go Shao Wan......"
His friend did not believe it and offered a great rebuttal: "What kind of feeling? The kind of feeling between sworn enemies? Everyone knows God Shao Wan and our god has always been archenemies. Even if you said that he had suddenly tired of ruling the four clans and left it and ran, it would be more believable! Look at Bi Hai Cang Ling's Donghua Dijun, that's what he's like. Even though he fought beside our god and fought so well I thought back then if our Celestial Clan managed to unite the heaven and earth, whether our god or Dijun was going to rule, soon after Dijun said he was tired of fighting and wanted to go into seclusion at his old home in Bi Hai Cang Ling."
The young god was reminded by his friend and remembered Donghua Dijun's actions and suddenly thought his friend was very reasonable, and nodded heavily: "The eight saints of the Shouhua Wilderness each have their strange tempers. Our god is also one of the eight saints, so maybe he had a fit of a strange temper too......"
The god of gossip, High God Zhe Yan who lived in the Ten Miles of Peach Forest and had been the classmate of Mo Yuan, Donghua and Shao Wan, walked past these two young gods after having turned himself invisible. And hearing this conversation, he looked toward Zhangwei Mountain and sighed, feeling wronged on the behalf of Mo Yuan and Shao wan. Though these two had been in a tug-of-war for thousands and hundreds of thousands of years, those in the universe knew none of these and at the end of it all, and at the end when they spoke of the two, could only call them sworn enemies, as if they were nothing else to each other aside from that, as if they had nothing left, and it made him sigh.
ii.
It was a few hundred thousand years ago.
The Water Marsh palace of learning used to have eight legendary figures, titled the Eight saints of the Shouhua Wilderness by the students. Though there were eight memebers of the eight saints, they were split into two parties - one party was made up of four Celestial Clan members, Zhe Yan, Qing Qiu's nine-tailed fox Bai Zhi, Xiluo who had by now entered the Western World, and Father God's son, Mo Yuan, who was their leader. The other party had three members from the Demon Clan. There was Shao Wan, and Xiluo's younger brother Sejia, and Xie Ming who had by now turned into the Underworld. The ancestor of demons, Shao Wan, was the leader of this party.
Aside from the four gods and the three demons, there was one saint of the eight that did not connect himself to a party. This figure was Donghua.
At that time, the gods and the demons were sworn enemies, and so the famous group of the Eight Saints of the Shouhua Wilderness always fought amongst themselves, and as the leaders of the two parties that were always fighting, Mo Yuan and Shao Wan were always on the palace of learning's school newspaper, and so at that time Shao Wwan's name was more well known than Donghua's, but according to martial capability, the one who could fight with Mo Yuan was not Shao Wan, but Donghua who did not get into much mischief and didn't get on the school paper.
Even though he was a ruthless someone who had overcome everything with his two fists and by his own power to become the ultimate fighter in the universe and turned every demon and sprite he encountered into his henchmen, Donghua did not get up to much mischief in the palace of learning. Zhe Yan thought this was  mostly because he didn't show up to school much. When Donghua sometimes came to school, it was to sleep under the Master's watchful eye. In comparison, though Shao Wan was the school delinquent who frequently got up to mischief, this school delinquent never missed a class.
Donghua and Shao Wan had been friends since they were very young. Zhe Yan remembered that Donghua, who never really showed up to class, would always borrow Shao Wan's notes for the monthly exam. But why would the school delinquent take serious notes? For the first few years of school, Donghua and Shao Wan both failed every class that required note-taking, such as scripture and mathematics and history, and were only not held back because their high scores in archery and tactics and spellcasting dragged back their score average. From this one could tell that they were truly good at fighting.
Later, the school newspaper reported that the internal conflicts between the Shouhua Eight Saints were on the rise, and the Master, who had the habit of reading the school paper, was extremely worried. Though Mo Yuan was a gentleman like an orchid, during that time, the Master who had been brainwashed by the paper thought he and Shao Wan would break out into a fight every time he looked at them. After a fearful moment of thinking, he separated Shao Wan and Mo Yuan, who had been sitting at the same table, and made Xie Ming Shao Wan's new tablemate, and Donghua, who had previously not had much interaction with Mo Yuan, became his new tablemate.
Zhe Yan thought it must have only been because they were sitting close together that Donghua copied Mo Yuan's notes twice, and then somehow tied first of their class with Mo Yuan that monthly exam.
Even though no one said anything, but most of them thought it must have been the work of Mo Yuan's notes, and the notes suddenly became the most precious item in the whole school. But the next month Mo Yuan got sick and didn't come to school, and no one could borrow his notes, including Donghua. Without Mo Yuan's notes, everyone still had their own, and could barely prepare for their monthly exam, but Donghua was a person who did not take notes and had to find someone's to copy. Coincidentally, Shao Wan, whom he used to borrow notes from, was also not at school, and so Donghua copied Bai Zhi's notes, and then came first again that monthly exam.
Everyone noticed, and of course, Donghua noticed too, that as long as he wasn't so stubbornly idiotic as to copy Shao Wan's notes, he usually could take the top score.
Zhe Yan remembered that after that Donghua usually copied three people's notes, Mo Yuan's, Bai Zhi's and Xie Ming's. Because they sat close together, he copied most of Mo Yuan's notes. But aside from copying notes, Donghua seemed to have no special relationship with any of them, and didn't speak much to them except to borrow notes and to return the notes.
iii.
Zhe Yan thought for a moment, and changed up his line of questioning. "Mo Yuan," he paused for a moment to gather his thoughts, "Even though Celestial Clan's ruthlessness has been building up recently, Mo Yuan isn't a god that likes war. The humble gentleman like the orchid of the mountain has never been a warmonger even during tactics lessons, and this you know as well. Not to lie, seven hundred years ago when he decided to walk onto the battlefield and join the war between the five clans, it shocked Bai Zhi and I greatly. But I heard that the night before he made the decision, he met with Father God and Shao Wan, and so in all of these years, I always guessed that Father God and Shao Wan must have said something to him so that he made that decision, right?"
iv.
With a clacking sound, a black piece fell upon the go board, and Dijun very uncharacteristically interrupted him: "Mo Yuan decided to unite the five clans originally to stop Shao Wan from opening the Ruomu door and feather for the sake of the Human Clan. But he didn't know that fate could not be defied, and the Ruomu door still opened, and Shao Wan still feathered. Everything he sought no longer has meaning, and so of course he won't stay. A man with a heart like shredded ash has done a great service already to wait until the four clans have gotten on the right path, but you would complain that he left without appointing a successor for the Celestial Clan?"
v.
Within the Water Marsh, they ran into High God Mo Yuan, who had been missing for a long time according to legend. Looking at Dijun's expression, he hadn't seemed too surprised by the fact that High God Mo Yuan was in seclusion here.
High God Mo Yuan was her aunt Bai Qian's Master, and so ever since High God Mo Yuan had woken from his seventy thousand year sleep from sealing away the Ghost King Qing Cang, Feng Jiu had seen him a few times. Then, the god had been stolid and reliable, peaceful and quiet, and inspired feelings of respect and admiration at a glance. But the High God they had met in the Water Marsh, though he looked no different than he did in two hundred and sixty thousand years, had a different air around him. If she was to say that in two hundred and sixty thousand years, High God Mo Yuan was a piece of jade, then this deity was like a blade stained with blood, hiding its sharpness for exhaustion and without conflict with the world, or else like an orchid nourished by blood, physically situated in a hidden valley outside of the world and heart in endless hell.
The history books did not record the reason for which Mo Yuan had disappeared after creating the new age of gods, and so Feng Jiu did not know what this matter had to do with Shao Wan, and when she saw this god in such a state, though she was curious in her heart, she knew it was not a good time to ask Dijun.

Thoughts on Handsome Siblings
Alright, I just spent four days binging the 2020 drama Handsome Siblings and boy do i have some thoughts. I think most of this is spoilers, so I will just add a keep reading or whatever. I don’t normally post stuff like this, but I saw how small the fandom is and how little posts there were and thought what the hell, its 4am and I’m gonna post something.
So my biggest thought is that cannibal dad is the best dad?!?!?!?!  How did that happen?  I will talk about this later, but out of all the villain parents, he was my fav.  He was so weirdly sweet and he was the only one who genuinely wanted to save xiaoyu in the end. And I am so relieved that he wasn’t actually a cannibal, because I was feeling super conflicted up until that point.
Gambling dad is tied for first with cannibal dad, for obvious reasons.  this dude was so honest and had more integrity than some of the “heroes” in this show
People will do ridiculous things for honor
Like, Lu Z (the guy impersonating Yan Nantian) had no reason to uphold that promise to Jiang Biehe.  Who would have known if Lu Z had killed him right then?  Literally no one would have known, plus he was so corrupted at that point so I have a hard time feeling bad for anything that may have happened to him
On a similar note, i absolutely despise Yulang.  Boy was so slimey from the moment we met him.  I kept getting so frustrated with him, he had so many moments where it was like, anyone with a conscience would never, but this is the kid raised by biehe, which means he was kind of set up for failure
Morung jiu and Hei Zhizue (sorry if thats not how you spell his name but he’s literally listed as black spider on imdb so this is my best) are the epitome of couple goals.  they are just so cute
I hated morung jiu at frst because she was so cold and ruthless and those kind of people frustrate me to no end.  But seeing her as ms. meng, it showed me that she may be harsh and cold on the outside, but she was also sweet on the inside, especially with xiaoyu and hei zhizue
Also, Hei Zhizue reminded me so much of Wen Ning from The Untamed.  Like, the dark clothes and goth aesthetic plus the the identical cinnamon roll personalities.  I just couldn’t stop thinking about it
When I first started watching, I really was hoping the villain parents would be more...kind? or at least to xiaoyu.  Like, I thought they would be honest and blunt, and more chaotic and annoying than evil.  But then it was revealed that they totes left xiaoyu to die in wuya palace and I was so disappointed
I find it amazing that while wuque got jiang feng’s face, xiaoyu got his dad’s affect on the ladies.  Feng had three woman in love with him at once, and xiaoyu had xinlan, lady duan, and su ying all loving him at some point.  It even looked like the girl with the performers was going to fall for him at one point
While Im talking about him, I love xiaoyu.  That boy is so chaotic, but also kind, but also a massive pain in the ass and I just love him.  I realted to him so hard, with his response to to his emotions and how he dealt with conforontation.  I’ve had so many times where i’ve been so frustrated and angry and hurt and I would just yell and scream and hit things.  But he always found a smart and unique solutino to his problems, and he was always smiling.  He’s one of those characters that are just so infectiously happy and charismatic, and I just love him to bits
I also love wuque for veeeeerrrry different reasons.  Boy was so pure, and so trusting,  While I felt I could relate more to xiaoyu personally, I felt like wuque was just a kind bean doing his best and I just want to give him all of the hugs.  He was so clearly out of touch with dealing with people.  Like he would be so genuinely confused and caught off guard when others would betray him, or were revealed to be crooked.  He’s been just taking everything his aunts said at face value and never saw the need to suspect anything else of what people said to him. Then he was let out into the world was so devastatingly unprepared for the greed and selfishness of others.  I just love that he was able to find people like xinlan and xiaoyu, and his girl he lu (I forgot the other yihua disciples name, but she rocked too) to support him and keep him out of trouble
I love xinlan too.  This girl is a badass martial artist who literally pushed so many boundaries.  I was nervous at first cuz I read a post about how she becomes a damsel in distress who just cries and completely loses her fighting, but I don’t feel like that’s what happened? Idk, maybe im just optimistic or oblivious, but she literally stripped and hugged wuque so xiaoyu could escape.  Like, she could’ve tried to fight, but wuque is like a prodigy.  But he’s so sheltered, she knew he would cease to function if she stripped and gave him a hug
Plus, she fought against her own father when he was brainwashed
And she literally followed wuque around everywhere he went and never gave up on trying to end this ridiculous duel before either of these two boys could kill each other.  Like, she is so determined and stubborn, and smart and I don’t think that at all took away from the fact that she was also a badass fighter
I loved her character because she could still fight, but she also knew how to get out of sticky situations when fighting wasn’t necessarily the best plan
I also loved the choreo.  Like, it was so lyrical and over the top, and normally i can’t stand it or take it seriously, but it was so interesting and fun to watch that I just couldn;t be annoyed
I’m new to the wuxia gang, like I literally didn’t know what it was called until yesterday, but I just really loved this show and wanted to talk about it.  This is only the second wuxia show I have watched so far, after The Untamed, but I can see myself falling headfirst into this hole.  I don’t know anything about particular standards in cdrama or anything about plot tropes or set design or costumes and wigs, but what I do know is that I really loved this show and I feel like more people could benefit from watching this.  At the very least, it will put a smile on your face

开卷有益: Always a good time for books!
Wow it’s summer!! But no classes also sometimes means you kind of fall off the language wagon :/ a nice way to maintain momentum but not get too brain fried is to read works in translation, or works about china/the sinosphere. This can help remind you why you started learning or just kind of fill out fun background knowledge and maybe pick up a few things. a mish mash selection (mostly amazon links but then you have the isbn for your library or pdfing or w/e):
Free online Paper Republic focuses on Chinese translations, Asymptote Journal is also wonderful and has work from not only Mandarin but Cantonese, Uyghur, and more!
Tumblr media
The Four Classic Novels You don’t need to read these, straight up it’s ok. That said, they are referenced a lot and work their way into things, and for the most part are just fun stories. Most have multiple translations, I’m linking to one but feel free to poke around
Dream of The Red Chamber (Story of the Stone)
Water Margin
Journey to the West (or abridged ver, or really, this is what Dragonball is based on)
Romance of the Three Kingdoms (also a tv version from 2010 on youtube)
More Fiction There is no real logic to this selection  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Legends of the Condor Heroes - very popular wuxia novels
Lu Xun - A Madman’s Diary, etc. A founding story in the vernacularization movement. It’s possible to find bilingual copies of much of his work, but because he was a pioneer in the early not-Classical Chinese writing movement (白话) his writing is not what is now considered “standard Mandarin.” It’s decently easy to read, but maybe don’t learn grammar from it (another: 孔乙己)
Chronicle of a Blood Merchant - Yu Hua
Beijing Comrades - gay and graphic in moments, so originally published anonymously online
Notes of a Crocodile - Qiu Miaojin, a “cult classic”
The Chilli Bean Paste Clan - Yan Ge
Frontier - Can Xue (she has also written short stories)
Running Through Beijing - Xu Zechen
Red Peonies: Two Novellas of China - Zhang Yihe has written quite a few stories about women from her time in prison during the Cultural Revolution, and while censored in China they are popular elsewhere. (careful tho some have only been translated into French so far but might look like English titles)
The Tibetan Suitcase -  I was actually trying to remember the name of a different book, but also this looks good too
Short Story Collections
King of Trees - Ah Cheng
Love in a Fallen City - Eileen Chang
Cantonese Love Stories - Dung Kai-Cheung (more city romantic than people)
The Wandering Earth - Liu Cixin. (havn’t seen the movie but it is on netflix) I really enjoyed the Three Body Problem series, especially the first one as it actually starts a bit in the past, but if you’re not sure about scifi his stories are a good place to start and I think are a sort of look at some Chinese approaches to tech that vary from the “colonialism in space” style of a lot of Western scifi.
There are also lots of anthologies out there (boo).
Poetry
Anthology of Modern Chinese Poetry
Words from the Fire: Poems by Jidi Majia - Jidi Majia is from the Yi minority group (which has its own alphabet!) and he incorporates elements unique to it
The Poem Behind The Poem: Translating Asian Poetry
Non-Fiction
The Private Life of Chairman Mao - written by Mao’s doctor, prof recommended this as a kind of fun/interesting read
Shanzai - Byung-Chul Han, short but a thing I think about a lot
The East is Black: Cold War China in the Black Radical Imagination
Age of Ambition - Evan Osnos. I found Osnos through this New Yorker article (long but worth it) and I think he brings both nuanced analysis (apparently difficult for some western journalists ఠ ͟ಠ) and engaging story telling
The State, Identity, and the National Question in China and Japan
Creativity Class: Art School and Cultural Work in Post-socialist China
The Birth of Chinese Feminism - Lydia Liu (I’m taking a class with her next semester I’m so excited and nervous)
The Chinese Typewriter - Thomas Mullaney. one of my favorite books, also about technology/media/info processing with great history work
An Anatomy of Chinese
Sound and Script in Chinese Diaspora
Multilingualism In China - Zhou  (you can tell these are kind of linguistic-y but I’ve tried to choose ones I think are approachable)
Lin Shu Inc: Translation and the Making of Modern Chinese Culture - did you know Uncle Tom’s Cabin was a big hit in China? neither did I
China’s Design Revolution - honestly this book was a mixed bag, only bother if you find it in the library or used or something
A Short History of Chinese Philosophy  - bilingual! even if you plan to read Zhuangzi or something on its own I recommend some sort of contextual history help to get the most out of it (we used this in a class)
There’s so much out there but hopefully this gets you grazing in the right direction!

Ok I haven't been here a while. So what did I- THIS IS CHAPTER THREE ALREADY!?!? HOLD ON A MINUTE!!! Can someone recap me on chapter two please... I'm missing zome key parts here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yan: I guess it’d be best to just look back at the older posts for the fine details.
(Be sure to check through the #chapter two tag, and since we’re just getting into chapter four, maybe skim a bit through #chapter three as well!)

Here you go @bee-haw-yee-haw. Also I have forgotten the plot of the third one I was going to write, and the second one is very short so I might be able to write and post it tonight. Also I don’t know how to write endings to stories so......
                                             ------------------------------------
“I swear this door shrinks every bloody time-“ “Owen, it’s the same as it was last time we came, you’re just useless-“ “-fucking step. Give me a hand, Yan.“ “And how exactly do you suppose I do that?” “Rock back and forth. Gather some momentum. Just-fuck!” “You almost tipped me out!” “Eh, it would have been good practice for you.”
Rhiannon sighed but smiled, the sounds of Owen and Ianto bickering travelling down the hall into the kitchen. The kitchen door opened and the two of them came through, Ianto clutching the arms of his wheelchair, trying to glare up at Owen. “Morning.” Owen’s voice was cheery. “Morning,” Rhiannon replied, barely sparing them a second glance as she took David and Mica’s cereal bowls off the table. “Still lumbered in that old thing, Yan?” Ianto shrugged. “The good days are good and the bad days are getting better.” “Today a good day or a bad day?” “Just a long day, I think.” Owen leant on the handles of the chair. “I’ve been called into work, can you have him for the morning? I offered to let him come in with me, he doesn’t feel up to it. I’ll be back around noon so you won’t have him all day.” Rhiannon smiled. “Sure. David’s at rugby, but Mica will like having him around. She’s upstairs, she’ll be down in a minute.” Ianto nodded and manoeuvred his way over to the television, picking up one of the game controllers from the table.
Rhiannon looked at Owen. “Usual restrictions apply?” “Yeah. No coffee, nothing carbonated. One glass of apple juice if he really wants but the rest just water. He can have toast but no butter and if he does want to eat a proper meal, just something small. He had half a tin of soup yesterday, for reference. He’s been sick twice already today, so just watch him. He knows what he’s allowed and what he’s not. And-” Owen reached into his pocket, slapping a small cardboard box onto the table. “-his painkillers. Dosage is on the leaflet but he knows it by now anyway. He has to have a drink with them, yada yada yada.” Ianto turned around from where he was loading up one of Mica’s video games. “Ask her your question.” Owen sighed. “It’s not a question. You wanted to be a lazy tyke, I said no.” Ianto rested the controller on his knees, addressing his sister. “If I take those tablets, I’m not supposed to operate heavy machinery-” “For the hundredth time, your wheelchair doesn’t count as heavy machinery. You’re more than capable of pushing yourself. And if it comes to it you can walk, so do that instead.” “Doesn’t count as- If I ran your foot over in this thing, you’d know about it.” Owen grinned. “Yeah, and so would you.”
There was the sound of footsteps on the stairs and Owen smiled. “That’s my cue to leave before I get roped into tea parties or video games or something.” He turned back towards the door, stepping over the threshold into the hallway, deliberately moving slowly to give her time to notice him. “Owen!” He turned back again, smiling. “Heya Mica, I’m just heading off now, I’ve gotta go to work. Your uncle’s here all morning though. I’ll pick him up later, Rhi.” “See you, Owen.” “Bye!” As he closed the door behind him, he heard Ianto ask Mica how to help him load up one of the games.
                                   ----------------------------------------
Ianto dropped his controller on his lap as Mica beat him again, and he sighed. It didn’t help that he couldn’t move his fingers accurately enough to hit half of the buttons, let alone quickly enough to do it before Mica did. As a result, she’d managed to beat him the last six rounds they’d played, and he was getting fed up with it. She looked across at him, leaning closer. “You have to hit this button when it goes yellow, Uncle Ianto, and then you move the controller like this-” she demonstrated “-and that’s how you make him jump, and then if you press these two at the same time, then you can activate the power-ups that you collect.” It was the same instruction she’d given him that last four times he’d lost, and he didn’t want to tell her that he knew, it was just that by the time he’d remembered where on the controller the buttons were, and remembered how to make his fingers move to hit them, he’d already missed his chance. “Maybe you could change the settings, Mica?” Rhiannon asked. “Make it easier for your Uncle Ianto to use them, you know he’s struggling with his hands right now.” Mica exited off to the menu screen and pushed a flurry of buttons, scrolling through menu options and adjusting controls. “Now, you can make it move by using the joystick. And you press it down to activate the power ups, and up to make it jump. And you don’t have to touch any of the other buttons because it all works from that one stick.” She loaded up the game again, and within seconds Ianto had managed to move his character more than he had in the last half an hour. It was still tricky, his reaction times slow, but it required far less dexterity than it had before, so he could make it work.
Three minutes later, he threw his hands up in joy as he beat the level. He’d had a feeling that Mica had been taking it easy on him, because he’d spent thirty seconds with his character spinning in a circle because he couldn’t get the angle quite right, but he didn’t mind. He’d beat the level, at least. Mica looked over at him. They have a two player puzzle game, if he wanted to have a go at that as well. Ianto nods, scratching the side of his face. He’ll have a go, if she’ll put up with him being dreadful at it for a while.
                               --------------------------------------
“Afternoon!” Owen called as he stepped into the hallway, hands in his pockets. They hadn’t needed him for that much at the Hub, a couple of biological scans, a quick alien autopsy, and a weeks backlog of paperwork. He’d gotten it over pretty quickly and managed to do all of it without having to face Jack, sending Tosh and Gwen up with the results. He swung open the door to the kitchen and living room, being as quiet as he could. Mica was sat on the floor, playing some video game Owen hadn’t seen before. Rhiannon was half watching her and half reading a book, Ianto was asleep on the sofa, curled up under a blanket, tucked in with enough teddies to lay siege to Carew Castle. Rhiannon turned at the sound of Owen opening the door, and the doctor leant against the back of the sofa, taking in the scene. “How long has he been asleep?” “Only half an hour or so.” “He eat anything?” “Nope. Had a glass of apple juice at quarter to eleven, I think he drank it too quickly because he was sick a few minutes after. Hasn’t even had any water since then.” Owen sighed, but Rhiannon knew he wasn’t angry with Ianto. “Heya Owen.” Mica didn’t look round. “Heya Mica.” He echoed in the same tone. “How about you go upstairs while we sort out your uncle, yeah?” Mica sighed but didn’t argue, switching off the games console and leaving the room, Owen hearing her footsteps up the stairs.
He walked over to Ianto, shaking his shoulder gently. Ianto frowned, burrowing himself under the blanket. Owen pulls it back gently, saying it’s time for them to go now, he’s back from work. Ianto shakes his head. “I want to stay here.” “You comfy?” Ianto hums by way of answer and Owen looks at his wristwatch. “I thought you wanted to watch that Bond movie that’s on, it starts in forty five minutes. You can be back at my place, showered and wrapped up warm  with a mug of warm squash and a pack of biscuits by the time it starts if we leave now.” “Not a five year old, don’t need bribing.” Ianto muttered as he sat up. “You sure? Cause I think I just bribed you.” Owen said teasingly. “How was work?” “Good.” Owen held out his hand for Ianto to take, and he stood shakily. “Same as always, really. Dissected some shit, wrote some forms, threw a pen pot at Gwen.” “What for?” “Fun. Tosh sends her love, before I forget.” Ianto got himself settled in the chair, which creaked ominously. “How old is this thing?” “Not that old. It’s been buggered ever since that shit with Suzie, reckon she did something to it. Don’t ask me what.” Ianto shuddered. “I could have gone the rest of my life without that knowledge, you know.” “What, that Suzie was the last person to use that chair before you?” “Who used it before that?” “Good question. Tommy, I think, the first year I worked there.” “I don’t like this chair’s track record.” Owen laughs. “Cursed death chair. Wouldn’t surprise me.” “I’m fairly certain you did try and kill me this morning, so, we’re on brand at least.” Owen slapped the back of Ianto’s head lightly. “Don’t get cocky, I could dump you twelve feet from your flat and you wouldn’t know how to get back to it. You’d walk until you hit the English border.” “And then I’d turn around and walk until I hit Pembrokeshire.” Rhainnon leant against the kitchen table. “Are you two quite finished? Only David will be back soon, and if you’re still here when he arrives he’ll make you stay for a month.” Owen bent down and stage-whispered in Ianto’s ear. “I think we’ve been evicted, mate.” “Too right you have.” “Say bye to Mica for me.” “Hey Rhi, don’t suppose you could have him tomorrow for me as well?” “Cheek!”

@ your post talking about female directors for cbms: patty jenkins has directed the first wonder woman movie and is working on the second one as we speak; cathy yan is doing birds of prey, and ava duvernay is doing new gods.
Yeah, that’s my point. Of the three, two have been marketedly and discussed as newsworthy specifically BECAUSE it’s a woman directing movies about women superheroes.
Men get to direct movies about female characters pretty much as often as they get made. If we want more recognition for female directors, we can’t keep giving them only the ‘girls stuff’ projects and then patting the studio heads on the backs for being woke. Sure, I will be seeing WW1984 on opening day. But there needs to be more parity, sooner.
Hire a woman to direct the next Thor film. Hire a woman to direct the Spiderman Homecoming 3. Hire a woman to direct a Fantastic Four reboot, and maybe it won’t suck.

CANTLON: UCONN 2021-22 SEASON PREVIEW
Tumblr media
BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings STORRS, CT - As if on cue, the first-morning dew on campus heralded a new hockey season for the UCONN Huskies and their head coach, Mike Cavanaugh. “I’m excited to be with the team and to make a deep push in Hockey East and maybe the NCAA tournament (both at the Boston Garden this year). We’ll have our fifth practice today, and I hope we’ll have 16 before next weekend’s first game with Sacred Heart (University) at the XL Center.” SHU is the Division I level team UCONN has had trouble with and has not beaten them at the D1 strata. “Not only have our freshmen, but none of our sophomores have played there, so we want to get them acclimated to the building,” remarked Cavanaugh. LAST YEAR The team, which posted a 10-11 record last year and lost to Providence College in the playoffs’ opening round, hasn’t advanced in Hockey East post-season action. They have a slew of grad transfers, and it’s different but not unique to future opponents. “It was like they were recruiting us in (goalie) Darion Hanson (Union College), Kevin O’Neil (Yale), and (Jarrod) Gourley (Arizona State). They didn’t play last year. They spoke to us, and I have spoken to their coaches, who would love to have had them back for a fifth year, and they spoke highly of them. “Boston University, our second opponent, has seven (transfers). We just have three, and they have been committed to us for a long time. They give us a different perspective and are a great for me and a great resource for our players,” remarked Cavanaugh. IN NET In net, Hanson will share duties with Logan Terness, who’s a highly touted freshman from Trail (BCHL). They will also have one goalie coming off labrum (hip) surgery, Matt Pasquale. They will also have one having it, Ryan Keane (Coppell, Texas), who both had zero time behind the off to the NHL, Tomáš Vomáčka, who played every second last year. “It’s wide open; not a lot of them played last year. Darion has the most experience of the three goalies, so I expect he’ll get the most work early, but we have five or six practices to go before that decision is made.” Upfront, the Huskies have a solid returning cast led by last year’s Hockey East top scorer, senior Jonny Evans. They’ll also have senior Carter Turnbill, and after not being offered a contract, 6’6 center from the Czech Republic, Jachym Kondelik (Nashville). FIRSTOV Vladislav Firstov (Minnesota) is giving Cavanaugh a rare luxury they haven’t had. "This is the best depth we’ve had since I’ve been here. We really don’t have a fourth line. I can spread Jonny on one line, Vladdy Firstov on another, Carter Turnbull on one, Jachym (Kondelik) on another. This could be the strength of our team this year.” On defense, Yan Kuznetsov and Tomas Vomáčka went pro, Kuznetsov, though, was a surprise. “Tomas, a goalie, they offered him a contract, and they give out only five or six goalies. One, you gotta take it, and it shows they think he can play. So, you have to take the contract. Yan, by the same token, was a surprise. It wouldn’t have hurt him to come back,” remarked his now-former head coach. SOPHMORES His younger sophomore class with Hudson Schandor, Artem Schlaine, Cassidy Bowes, and Nick Capone (East Haven/Salisbury School) (Tampa Bay 6th round #157) got to know Hockey East last year, introduced themselves, and got quality minutes. He has high hopes for Capone. “He is really a good player. He can do a lot of things (well) that can translate to getting to the next level. I want him to be more of a factor night in and night out. I want him to play a power forward game like Tom Wilson without the suspensions, antics, and penalties. I want him averaging three or four shots a game, and he’s capable of that, and can bring that intimidation factor to the game too.” On the backline, Jake Flynn and Carter Berger, are a pair that have made early good impressions. CAPTAIN KINAL On his team’s new captain, Roman Kinal, Cavanaugh was philosophical. “He’s on a trajectory like (former defenseman) Wyatt Newpower was (now with Cleveland-AHL). He struggled on-and-off the ice in the classroom the first year and struggled with his play and injuries in his second year.” His freshmen class is a more traditional mix in net with a high-end goalie prospect in Terness, who’s in the mold like Adam Huska and Tomas Vomacka, who both came before him. There’s also a late defenseman to commit, Aidan Metcalfe, and in-state kid Jake Veilleux (South Windsor/Selects Academy at South Kent Prep), another BCHL grad from the Victoria Grizzlies, and Sasha Telguine. “Aidan was a surprise. He is a big kid, strong, skates well; Veilleux can play forward or defense. He’s pretty versatile, and Sasha has a lot of skill. We’re not going to have to rely on them because we’re a veteran team. Injuries in a season will happen, so it’s good to have some players to slide into those positions, on a veteran-laden team.” POSTSEASON HOPES The change in the post-season conference playoff system to the one-and-done structure from the three-game series that Cavanaugh has advocated for over the past several years. “I think you’ll see more conferences going toward it. It mirrors our national tournament. Shooting for Boston is a team goal.” The new captain Kinal replaces Adm Karascik (Ridgefield/Avon Old Farms) will play a post-grad year at ND. “The (Boston) Garden has been talking about all (offseason and all year) Hockey East is there, the Finals (Frozen Four) are there. We’ve been talking about it all year to get to the Garden; that’s our goal. That’s our long-term goal. We also, of course, have individual goals. That starts with winning October 2nd against Sacred Heart and goes from there.” DRAFT PICKS That some of his players and just five nationally (three in the first six picks) with more incoming players selected surprised Cavanaugh. “When you’re drafted, that means the work has just begun. When you’re drafted, you sign a million-dollar deal; you’re taking home $400,000 after taxes, escrow, and paying your agent, and we’re bringing in business people to educate the kids about the business inside and outside of hockey. It’s sticker-shock when you go to places like Seattle and California,” said Cavanaugh. The brand new yet unnamed rink is taking shape. “It’s great,” said Cavanaugh. The new (UCONN) rink will be the second smallest rink in the conference to Matthews Arena (home to Northeastern built over 100 years ago and occupied in 1910.) We’re already getting benefits on the recruiting trail with inquiries from kids we wouldn’t have heard from before, say, three or four years ago. It’s exciting; once a week at the top of the hill, I can look in, and you can see the foundation of the building now.” CAPTAIN PUMPED His captain is equally enthused. “I pass it every day going to class. It’s awesome. You definitely see progress being made. Every year they would talk about. Now you see the stones being set in place. Now you see the work being done. It’s pretty cool were excited for sure,” said Kinal. The season looks to be a bright one for UCONN. COLLEGE NEWS Heading pro is Wisconsin-River Falls (WIAC) player from Division III in Christian Hausinger, with Wichita (ECHL) as the seventh D3 player. The Division-1 breakdown is: Hockey East 29, Big 10 has 23, NCHC 17, AHA 11, ECACHL with eight, CCHA, formerly the WCHA with four, and independent Arizona State with two. Division-I pro signees are 94, underclassmen who have left school early 36, and ALL college players signed from Division I and III in North America are now up to 132. Grad school transfers are at 51, and school transfers are 81 for 132 players who switched schools. In addition, 36 Division I and III have headed to Europe, including the latest Jaako Heikkinen (Denver University). Three went to Canadian college and university, and one went to Canadian major junior. COACHES A whole slew of volunteer coaches and assistant coaches were named. Jordy Murray at ND, Jack Riley heads to Division III independent Albertus Magnus College (New Haven), Ryan Zapolski, former Team USA goalie in the 2018 Pyeongchang, South Korea Games at Mercyhurst (AHA). Peter Ward is the new is senior advisor for coaches at MSU with Dylan Strom, the Spartans volunteer, Matthew Vanden Berg at Maine (HE). Minnesota State in the new CCHA and Colgate ECACHL are the preseason favorites to win their conferences. The brand new Ed Robson Arena at Colorado College ribbon is cutting is coming up shortly. The Outside: Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Mark and Seán have ended their YouTube careers. That leaves their Egos with one option to keep themselves from fading as the fans start to forget them: Leave their dimensional plane, and live in the humans'. But the Outside is new and unknown to the Egos, with rules and laws they have a hard time understanding.
-----------------------------------------
The Outside Chapter 1 A Doctor, A Demon, and Two Hosts... Chapter Warnings: None
It had been seven years since Mark’s last video. Three years since Seán had announced he’d be stopping YouTube soon, too. That didn’t mean they had no more fans. People still watched their videos, wrote fanfiction, drew fanart. Unfortunately, the people who did began to dwindle as time went on.
The Egos? They were afraid. No, terrified. Most of them had already grown transparent in the arms. Some were close to fading completely. The few fans who still watched were all that kept them alive.
Magic grew weak, Visions started to cloud, powers became draining. They were all fading. Some, faster than others.
The doctors, with Iplier weak on his feet, made their rounds every day. They’d ordered that everyone stay in Egos, Inc. so that they could all be kept track of. The Septics’ office, Ego Central, had begun to fall apart during that time; with no magic to keep it in good shape, no Egos to give it reason to exist. Schneep and Dr. Iplier made sure to check in on everyone; just to see who was still with them. So far, they’d been lucky. No one had faded yet—though the King, Bim, Marvin, Yandare, and Twins seemed to be getting close.
The Jim Twins never let go of each others’ arms anymore; terrified that if they let go, that if they didn’t stay near each other, they’d fade without their brother at their side. Marvin clung to Jackieboy in a similar manner, while Bim and the King had locked themselves away in their rooms, and Yan stuck close to anyone he could; namely Chase, due to his more paternal nature.
The Egos knew, simply through an accident many years ago, that they couldn’t fade Outside. Not outside of their offices, but really, truly Outside. That if they left their dimensional plane, and went into the humans’, that they could live on. But it was a terrifying thought. Most of them had never even set foot out there; if they had, it had been only very brief, and with their creators. They didn’t know what to expect, except that it physically altered their features.
Kathryn had explained it in a way that made sense; especially to those who weren’t exactly ‘law-abiding’. If the Egos went Outside, and did something to draw attention to themselves, the different appearance they got made it so Seán or Mark wouldn’t be pinned as suspects. Sure, the Ego might look like they could be related to them Outside; but they no longer looked like clones as they did in their own plane.
The Egos were all too afraid of what was out there to leave. Not even Dark wanted to go out there. Nor Wilford, or Anti, or the Googles; the seemingly fearless ones. The Outside was a new, unknown world to them.
That all changed when Schneep entered the Twins’ room to check up on them, and found only a note on their bedside table. Bing, Chase, and Yan had all left similar notes.
They’d left together, in the middle of the night. Gone Outside. Chase with his kids in tow; each of them with backpacks filled with cash, food, and water. Yan so desperate to survive he’d left behind every keepsake of his senpai he’d collected and only brought a few changes of clothes, as well as his swords. Bing had ripped his charger from the wall to take with, while the Twins shouldered backpacks filled with notebooks and clothes.
The next day, Jackieboy and Marvin left with Bim and the King. Then it was the Googles, while Anti and Jameson left within two hours of the androids.
Their numbers started dwindling more and more; anywhere from one to a few Egos leaving every day, until the only ones left were the doctors, Dark, Wilford, and the Host. But soon enough, even they wanted to leave. There was nothing left for them in their plane but a lonely end.
“Out there, we have chance. In here, we can only fade from memory,” Schneep had said to the other four. Alone, he’d exited through the back door that would take him to the humans’ plane; carrying nothing but a card from Marvin, a scalpel, and his cellphone and wallet.
The following day, the remaining four made their choice.
“You’ll need a human name,” Dr. Iplier had said, gaze flitting between Dark and the Host. The Doctor could barely stand, and the others had to squint to focus on his extremely faded form that was barely visible. Dark, predictably, selected Damien. The Doctor suggest ‘Arthur’ for Host; a callback to his original title of Author, and easy to remember. He received a frown for it, before the blind Ego gave a nod.
Much like the Doctor, Host was very faded. He was followed closely by Dark. Only Wilford, through all these years, had maintained a mostly-solid form with only his hands fading in and out of visibility. And that was only because he was the channel’s literal icon; seen every day even if the videos themselves weren’t viewed.
Shifting the pack on his shoulders, the Doctor bent down to pick up his first-aid kit. He struggled with its weight in his weakened state, but managed. His free hand found the crook of Host’s elbow; both as a means to help the blind Ego since his Visions weren’t working properly, and so they could support each other, and he led the Host through the back door without another word. Dark and Wilford hesitated for but a moment before following suit.
Dark flinched at the bright sunlight to greet him, and it took a good thirty seconds for his eyes to adjust to it. Smoothing out his suit jacket, he reined in his aura to form the appropriate shadow at his feet that he always seemed to lack. Out here, he couldn’t let it surround him, draw attention to him, them. Finally, the old Ego took a look at his comrades and was nearly dumbstruck. He knew they’d all look different out here. He just...hadn’t really thought about it until actually seeing it with his own eyes.
The doctor looked so young. He was also lankier and taller than their creator, now. His face was one of a tired youth; maybe college-aged, and a soul patch adorned his once clean-shaven face.
The Host’s face was narrower, angled more harshly; bandages almost looking like they’d slide right off with how loosely they clung to it now. Iplier leaned in to readjust them so they wouldn’t actually do so. Much like the Doctor, he was taller, but overall build similar to what it had been before. It was amusing, however, at how much shorter his coat seemed with the added height of the Ego himself.
Wilford had gained a soldier’s build; slimmer than before but still powerful. His mustache didn’t curl at the corners nearly as much, and covered his upper lip better; no longer pink, but the same black as his hair. Dark wondered how long it would be before it was dyed back to that signature color.
Dark, himself, didn’t feel much different build-wise; his suit didn’t seem loose or tight, at least. Though, he did keep stepping on the bottom of his pantlegs. So the doctor and Host were taller, Will more or less the same height, and Dark shorter? How did it work out like that, he wondered with a twinge of annoyance. Judging by Wilford’s smirk, the height difference was fairly obvious.
The Doctor was looking the other three over as well, his own surprise at their appearances shining in now-green eyes. “This,” he muttered, “looks like the start of a very bad joke.”
