I'm gonna take the sexy route with this.

Danny's really into Stef's long fucking legs. She's tall. And like most queers, he is not immune to a Tall Woman™. He's genuinely kind of sad that she's always in cargo pants, because they don't do her legs justice. Also he's spent a lot of time wondering about her dick and what it'd be like to suck it.

Stef thinks Danny has a very sexy voice. And she's a little obsessed with the way he calls her Miss McGarrett. It's always as a joke, but she's kind of horned up about it. She wants him to whisper that in her ear. Also he's got a cute little butt, and in her opinion it's very spankable.

TWO:

Danny fell first. Danny's been half in love with her since they started arguflirting on reddit, and then they started talking for real. He's had a crush on her since before Rachel, and been In Love in love with her years. Maybe even before or around the wedding. It's complicated. She's just so much to him. And then he meets her irl, and he didn't think it was possible to fall for her further or harder, but he does.

Stef's known Danny for a very long time, and he's always been in a 'friend' box in her mind. But once he stops being this vague idea in her head, and becomes a Real Person, she basically falls ass over tea kettle. I'm gonna get into it more in the next bit, but once Danny stops being just words on her phone, and starts being a man looking her in the eyes, she's a goner.

Top 5 Favorite Fics 💖

these are in no particular order!

3 AM, the time when most people die - this is a hard core logo (1996 canadian movie) fic which just kind of Happened, and it hung around on ao3 for a solid few days in a 0 kudos 10 hits sort of state, which had me giggling every time i thought about it. 2023 goal of writing for me, myself & i achieved (0 kudos on a fic)! ✅ (that said, it does also bring me great joy to see that the number is upwards of zero now. lovely to see an obscure thing find its audience. <3)

Your hands in my back pockets - a starsky/hutch fic, and in some ways the opposite to the previous one. i had a "this is alright" sort of feeling about it when i hit post, and the (lovely! very flattering!) way people responded to it surprised me somewhat. reading it back now, i don't know what bothered me about it at first - it's nice, it flows, it's all good! plus, i really like the title. it's a good s/h title.

POV: It’s a lovely day, you’re sipping a refreshing cold drink on your 70s apartment balcony, and the upstairs neighbor who always waters the sago palm outside your front door when you forget about it has that one friend over and his windows wide open. - this is a starsky/hutch all dialogue fic, and it was just plain fun! very easy to write, thankfully not hard to read, and the title is completely ridiculous in a way that still gives me a kick.

How To Build A Triangle (or accidentally fall headlong into one, or whatever the fuck) - can't not mention this one, i think. it's the roy/jamie/keeley ted lasso fic i wrote in record time (for me), and i had a blast doing that and i think that's palpable in the end result. i have warm memories of this!

Oh, kiss me like the final meal (Yeah, kiss me like we die tonight) - h50! steve/danny! they'd gotten swamped by all the starsky/hutch in 2022, but they made a minor comeback this past year. and again, this fic was just plain fun - a scene that really needed the mcdanno rewrite, and i'm glad it happened, and that it decided to flow so smoothly it grew twice as long as intended. the gag with the gun is still good, the banter works, and i like "it tastes like a laugh".

Fandom Fic Events 🤝

my knee-jerk first thought was none, which would have been a blatant lie for this year! i wrote a fic for the SHareCon (starsky/hutch con) zine, which is currently still zine-only but will appear on ao3 at some point in the future, and i also wrote something for this year's Starsky & Hutch Advent Calendar, which can be found here (which will also lead you to all the other lovely advent calendar gifts of 2023 and previous years!). neither of these things would have happened if starsky & hutch fandom hadn't been such a warm, welcoming, unbelievably well-organized space. <3

Projects for 2024 👀

oh god. oh god i have so many things on the grill.

the end of 2023 was a stretch of time where i did write some, and at times even a very decent amount, but nothing seemed to be getting finished - which was annoying for a bit, and then sort of petered out into oh well. it'll happen, eventually, when it wants to. which means that currently i have a whole bunch of nearly finished things for a whole bunch of fandoms:

bad buddy - should this be top of the list? who knows. but oh, i need to write something for this - i have to, i need to, you know. it's just that it's turning out to be more of a challenge than most new things i start writing for, because i do feel i have a reasonable grip on the characters, but the fact that it's a thai series which i'm only consuming through fan-generated subtitles is clashing with some of the fundamentals of how i usually write fic, as it turns out. usually i watch a thing and then mimic character voices to write a section of (probably mostly, maybe only) dialogue, which then gets filled out with descriptions and an actual setting later on. the problem with bad buddy is that i love, love subtitles, and i love, love the people who write them, but they do (understandably! naturally!) lead to some very clunky english at times, and i just can't write things like "are you chickened out, fierce eyes". i cannot. which means i need to half-invent the right english character voice (and how that blends with the little i know of thai speaking patterns and customs), which takes away the thing i usually lean on way more heavily than i previously realized i did, so. it's a journey! it's an experiment! i'm learning things! i'm making choices! and i'm pumped about it but it's also REALLY slowing down the bad buddy fic production.

starsky & hutch - many things are happening! many many! they're just happening slowly. there's one particular fic about starsky and hutch comfortably out at a party and hutch fielding questions about names which has been 98% done for a month or two, but i need one (1) more connective paragraph to wrap things up, and apparently i'm in no hurry. and i love that for me, at the same time as i'm tempted to flick my brain and go Do It. Just Do It. oh god, and then there's a much older comedy fic stuck in close to the same situation only there it's 95% and the missing part is the end, which is at least a little more serious, and there are. i think literally a dozen probably. things that are cooking, bubbling, making interesting little noises. it's yet to be seen which of those turn out tasty.

h50 - there are some shorter wips here that have great potential to go somewhere, but mostly i want to finally (finally!) wrap up a flip-flop state of mind, which only needs finishing touches (albeit a bunch of them) on the final chapter, and then maybe 200 more words for the short epilogue to round things out. i had somewhat hoped to get that done before the new year, but it didn't work out that way, and i'm at peace with it - the longer this fic takes, the more comical my initial estimate of "i can probably get this done within the month" becomes. and after that's done, i can refocus my energy on Sweet like a chic-a-cherry cola, another ill-fated plan which i Will see through (while also enjoying myself), dammit, but i think for that one i'll need to pre-write the whole thing before i start posting again or i'll just keep going in circles.

nashville - it's been a while since my rewatch, so i'm not sure it will ever really come together, but i have a fun little 5+1 will/gunnar thing which lives half in a google docs file and half in my heart. could be nice!

sga - there's One Fic that's near done and has a few turns of phrase in it that keep making me go "oh, this might be worth finishing, actually" every time i return to it, but i think i'll need to let that happen a few more times before we actually get there. there's also a light and comedy-ish aro/ace john fic (heavily featuring john&rodney and john&team) on a low boil. i think that one might need to wait for me to rewatch the show at some point so i'm correctly immersed in the Vibes of it all, but it's very dear to me, so it still gets a permanent In Progress label.

due south - there's one particular thing that i might get back to? maybe. it could happen. @redgoldblue's dedicated live reporting on their due south watch, as well as their ds fic, did stir something in my brain.

other - there's literally two paragraphs of hard core logo fic kicking around in my notes which might turn into something some day. (when i started writing 3AM those new words were intended to blend with the two existing paragraphs, but they never did.) there's some ted lasso that can still be considered wip, but my ted lasso fic moment burned bright and short, it seems, though it's nice to know the framework is there if i ever do a rewatch. oh man, and there's a weird homoerotic over the top (because that's what this canon is) tango & cash wip which i hope will make it across the finish line some day, but i wouldn't be surprised if in the end that's, like. coming to an ao3 page near you soon! in 2026.

Thank you, babe @stephmcx because of your great fic rec list I noticed this amazing Fic Rec Day! I'm not often on Tumblr anymore scrolling and discovering interesting things and I miss the interaction with other fandom folks. And here you are, posting a great fic rec list of the most epic OTP ever: Steve and Danny.

I have my McDanno 'go-to' fics I love dearly but for this list I put together a different number of McDanno stories from my bookmarks. I hope some of you haven't read them already. Maybe there's a chance you find an unknown great McDanno story. okay, I'm going to count distinct chapters of the advent calendar for this. in no particular order and subject to mood change:

When You're Loving Me (That's When I'm Loving You) (NCIS: LA) - I cited this as a contender for my favourite fic I've written a couple months ago, so obviously it has to go in the year's. what can i say, fake dating is an immaculate trope, and this also all came onto the page very easily which is always vaguely miraculous.

there you go pulling me right back in (H50) - sometimes vague prompts i've had down for ages write up as something that's. fine, but a bit clunky, and I just have to move on bc it's the advent calendar and a new fic each day. sometimes I start writing them and they spring into life with joyous delight. or in this case, uninhibited grumpiness and love.

singing yesterday's songs wishing i could be with you tonight (MASH) - the one that didn't make it into the top 5 kudosed, I assume partially due to being locked and partially due to being a serious tone, not terribly shippy, and Peg POV. But I've had some version or other of it for a long time, it's one of those stories I'm genuinely proud of, and I was glad to finally post it.

Totally Normal (Due South) - it's fun. it was fun. I was slightly nervous about it, because the only prior Due South thing I'd written was Dief POV and this was Fraser and RayK POV and the first time writing either of those, but it turns out watching + liveblogging four and two seasons, respectively, of a character in four months is. enough to cement their voices in my head. it was unexpectedly easy and also. fun.

Festive Spice (MUNCLE) - i just think it epitomises the advent calendar. in the words of coolbreezemage, 'yesssss bake cakes and kiss your partner'.

Finding A Cure In You (S&H) - this doesn't make it to the above list due to the fact that I haven't actually managed to reread it since I posted it. but just for the amount of time I spent with it, how different it is to my usual M.O. of writing, and the weird way I wrote it (entirely in the notes app, with almost zero rereading while writing), I have to somehow mention it.

A Thousand Words / To Be Spared (Good Omens) - I don't know if they're favourite but I do think they're good. and the format of to be spared was pleasingly experimental and i think it worked.

I expect more MUNCLE fic. this one's already 3.5k and rocketing along, and i'm only two-thirds of the way through season 1. what form that will take i don't know at this stage but we'll see.

....i was discussing the vague concept of house/h50 crossover fic with squares literally yesterday and on the one hand I haven't written a crossover since 2014 and also don't want that to be my legacy, but on the other hand i think there is at least a 50% chance it's going to stick in the back of my brain and keep niggling.

23. makes the dirty jokes.

based on the show material, danny makes Dad Jokes™, so this has to be steve, mr. 'if I didn't put my finger inside of you we wouldn't be having this conversation', 'professional what?' 'he got it falling out of bed', 'you never butter my pancakes' *waggles eyebrows* 'mcgarrett. it's probably even worse around his navy buddies because the way they are used to talk would probably make even danny blush.

he's got the maturity of a 13 year old in that regard, never saw an innuendo/pun/dirty joke opportunity he didn't take and he's only gonna dial it up after him and danny get together. ('i hate you' - 'that's not what you screamed last night ;)') danny will permanently ban 'pain in my ass' from his lexicon because he doesn't want to give steve more ammo. he doesn't know how he's still attracted to the guy. oh, right, he has eyes.

26. gets a tattoo when they’re drunk.

for obvious reasons, getting a tattoo isn't out of the ordinary for steve, he doesn't need to be drunk for that, so my guess would be danny. although, i suppose a drunk and sad steve could have gotten danny's name tattooed on his bicep in 6x11, wouldn't put it past him, lol.

i swear i read a fic where danny meant to get a tattoo of one of his gfs when drunk (don't remember if gabby or melissa) and ended up getting steve's name on his wrist which made the gf break up with him, naturally. he also immediately got an appointment to remove it but it could only be in a month so he had to walk with a bandage and lie about it. i do not remember when i read it or who wrote it or what else was in the fic, sorry.

when they are together if danny got a tattoo somewhere only steve can see as a surprise, steve would think it's the hottest thing ever, for sure, his possessive streak would soar, lol. (pretty sure i encountered that trope in fic too)

28. makes the other go for a walk.

steve is the definition of an outdoorsy type, his idea of a fun date is to hike up a mountain in a jungle, he's usually the one who has to practically drag danny because danny would rather lounge

i know in later seasons danny works out and willingly goes for runs but that's not the danny i know, lol.

Why I wrote It: Because my muse is a seductive temptress. And also because I’m convinced the Addams family has to exist in the same world where **checks notes** people fight aliens with pointy sticks.

Why you should read it: Natasha, Wednesday, French cemetery. Come on, what else do you need for a perfect Halloween fic?

Talking about pointy sticks, I may have written an entire fic where Hawkeye renovates a cabin. My ability to write truly riveting plots is… questionable😜

Why I wrote it: Because the only thing better than writing about cupcakes is writing about red velvet cupcakes. No really, thats the plot. Did I mention my riveting plots?😆

Why I wrote it: Either this was a whumptober fic that got out of hand—or my muse tied me up and threatened to put a Ceti eel in my ear if I didn’t write it. Take your pick.

Why you should read it: Because the world needs a Hawaii Five-0 Star Trek AU? Also, there is Cardassian poetry, diplomatic javelining, and aliens that love butter pecan ice cream.

Care and Feeding of a Super Seal

Why I wrote it: This is my coda for the Hawaii Five 0 finale and all @cowandcalf’s fault. My muse agreed with all her points in this meta she wrote and… stuff happened. Also, I was obsessing thinking in a very normal fashion about how the ohana deserved better, too.

Why you should read it: I did my best to explain the ending, various plot holes the size of an spider crab, and a few other things that have bugged fans over the years. There’s also Steve!whump, some badass!Danny, and a generous sprinkling of ohana. Most importantly, the boys talk about diving, and get their happy ever after.

Why I wrote it: I’ve always wanted a paranormal fic that felt like it was set in the southwest, so I decided to write one cleverly disguised as a Supernatural AU.

Why you should read it: Where else are you going to get a fic with nagueles, rain gods, and the FBI? Also, Old Man Coyote makes a random appearance and Dean’s in love with a were-cougar.

And yes, I wrote a Hawaii Five-0 AU where I turned Chin into a were-leopard but its totally not the same thing😂

title: Family, Familia, ‘Ohana, Chapter Ten: FUBAR, Danny’s POV

Fandom: 911, H50, SWAT

Pairings: Buddie, McDanno, platonic Deacon/Hondo

Fic summary:

When one family seems lost another comes back from the past. But does Buck want to return to the past or live in the present? And does his present lead to a future he wants? Only he can answer these questions but Steve at least will be there to support him.

Tags/warnings: first draft. Danny’s musings. Navyseal!Buck. Alternative Universe. Timeline what timeline. Set post lawsuit in season 3 (roughly).

It’s a terrible thing, watching Steve and Buck harden in front of his eyes.  There’s shared trauma between them that binds them closer than any sibling bond and they feed off of each other’s mood in a vicious cycle of codependency.  Danny wants to tear at it, tell them that they don’t have to do this again—don the mantle of the hardened warrior.  

He knows that Steve did things in the name of his country that damaged his soul but now he also sees it in Buck. This hard, unfeeling, unflinching coldness that scares Danny and makes the primitive instincts within him stir and scream that Steve and Buck are dangerous and that he should be wary of them. 

Neither Steve nor Buck would ever harm Danny or any of their friends or families. 

The same cannot be said for their enemies—and Wo Fat is enemy number one. 

On the other hand, Danny thinks Wo Fat should get exactly what is coming to him.

Just not at the expense of further damage to Steve or Buck. 

He isn’t sure how he’s going to stop that though. 

All day, he’s watched Chin frown over the computer.  His fingers have danced across the screen, trawling through every traffic camera they have access to, ship manifests and airplane cargo lists.  If it’s a legitimate way to get someone from the mainland to Oahu, Chin has his fingers on it. 

The problem is, smuggling is illegal by it’s very nature.  

Danny is willing to bet that they’re not going to figure it out how Wo Fat is moving Diaz until it’s too late to stop the transfer. A time frame would be useful, but they’re not usually that lucky. 

Hondo’s tearing apart the Port of LA and hasn’t found anything yet despite being at it all day.  Danny’s money isn’t, however, on Diaz being moved by boat even if that’s probably the best way to fly under the radar.  The transit time is too long and Wo Fat’s already been sitting on Kono for several days.  The longer he has to keep her, the greater the chance of something going wrong—either because Kono makes her displeasure known and escapes or she’s injured because she’s being held against her will. 

Danny hates the idea that Wo Fat’s minions might get a bit too rough with either Kono or Diaz.  None of them are going to take it well if they don’t get them back in one piece.

with a previous answer i did this for the starsky & hutch wips, so i'll do it for h50 now, which brings options. the main document with more or less Everything in it has 12 blinks, a flip-flop state of mind has 4 (though those have all already been posted), and sweet like a chic-a-cherry cola (which is, despite appearances, not dead) has 7, one of which is this one, from the aftermath of my gratuitous surf buddies scene rewrite ("“That’s so cute,” Mary says, while she accepts the coffee. She’s smiling, and Steve looks happy and clueless and good enough to eat, and Danny is, quite frankly, insulted."):

When he crosses the doorway he’s indignant, but by the time he’s hopping up on the kitchen counter there’s a nasty doubt creeping in. “Hey, look, we are more than just surf buddies, right? I’m not reading this whole thing wrong?” Steve has his head in the fridge, but at this he closes it without taking anything out. He turns to Danny and blinks. “Of course we are. We’re-” He predictably gets stuck right there, because they haven’t said anything like that out loud before. “Partners,” is what he settles for.

22. Are there certain types of writing you won’t do? (style, pov, genre, tropes, etc)

ooh, interesting! and i'm leaning towards no, because i have very few hard boundaries with fiction. there are definitely things i'd be very unlikely to ever write, but there's very little i feel sure about ruling out completely. i'm not responsible (yet) for what tomorrow me thinks would be a good idea, and i only very recently had the experience of watching a show (one of the thai ones, predictably) that got me SO annoyed i had to grab myself by the back of my own shirt and forcibly yank myself back from attempting to rewrite the entire plot of a lazy thing about which i liked practically nothing, not even the characters. so i guess that's one thing i AM trying to actively avoid, and hope for future me's sake she won't be doing either: writing some giant project purely out of spite for a media property i don't enjoy. (peace and love, girl.) beyond that, i don't know! chances are vanishingly slim, but maybe i'll suddenly decide i have a great take on mpreg omegaverse deathfic tomorrow.

oh, yes! all my friends i think, my sister, my parents - though my parents wouldn't know where to find it, probably, and i wouldn't mind keeping it that way. i don't mind telling people, it's just that i also don't necessarily enjoy explaining (and defending) the concept of fanfic to random non-fanfic people, so it depends on the situation.

This is a McDanno fic that goes HARD into Hawaiian folklore and tales and like, its so good. SO GOOD, and so fascinating. All their stories tbh.

3. hurt today, here tomorrow by me bc actually, I'm really proud of this. It's pre-John/Ronon, mostly Ronon, post Sateda episode dealing with Ronon and what happened and also John's feelings regarding Ronon putting a knife to his own neck.

Actively, I'm working on uh, I'll be nice and say 5 but really I have 10? My most recent one is my good things happened to john Sheppard and this is the beginning which amuses me.

“How about an x-203 wing?” John asked, half-jokingly.

He was aware of the eyes on him.

“We have two we can spare I believe,” Shen Xiaoyi said. “They are stationed at Area 51 but we have increased production of the wings and so we will be able to shift them to Atlantis, provided that they volunteer of course.”

John stared, before looking over at everyone else who seemed half asleep and not paying attention. Rodney was already tapping at his tablet, lost in his own world and Woolsey was writing down a list of things they John was sure they needed. He looked back towards the IOA who were also looking at their tablets. John’s hands suddenly felt very empty.

“Oh, we have three,” Nechayev said. “It is more international than the others but I think that it would be a good choice for Atlantis, yes?”

Coolidge nodded before he looked at John. “So, three wings. Anything else?”

What do you do when writing becomes difficult? (maybe a lack of inspiration or writers block)

I step back. I close the story and I work on something else, I do something else. Go see friends, go watch a movie, allow myself some grace and come back to it when I'm feeling ready. If it's really bad I'll wait two weeks, transfer it to my phone, settle in with a drink and read it as a reader not a writer and usually that helps.

Wip/Last Line Wip tag game.

Oi! Hello Yall! i Have been tagged by my Buddies and Besties @cowandcalf @merlin-wolfgang-trades-hale @ellena-asg @mayberrycryptid

For the Wip Tag Game and the Last Line Wip Tag game. So I've decided to answer them all in one. This is a segment for the for the current Pokemon Prompts I'm writing, (While I struggle with the Prompts from the, now outdated, 2019 Inktober List (that I am DETERMINED TO FINISH), In this case an H50/McDanno fic!

This is less of a "last line" and more of a last few paragraphs. It is nearly done. I hope yall enjoy it!

" Steve had told him all about the deal he had made with CHarizard, about finding Charizard a place he could be safe and taken care of. Danny knew Steve had been relentlessly searching for just such a place. Danny knew the current two front runners were the Charicific Valley or one of the Lental Islands. Danny knew that Steve preferred these areas because CHarizard could live free. In the valley he’d be surrounded by his own kind and since the Lental Islands were No-Catch zones he’d never have to worry about humans again. He knew Steve had put out feelers to certain Professors and Researchers about trustworthy trainers, incase Charizard didn’t want to live wild.

 Much to Danny’s upset Steve had, apparently, never considered that Charizard was already in a safe place with a trainer that could take care of him."

I hope this doesn't give away too much of the story!

please excuse me bc i was not tagged in this, but i saw this pop up on my dash from some of my non-mutuals and i was OBSESSED - so i did not wait my turn, i've just gone for it :)

most hits: yes, there is a chain and no, you're not on it (schitt's creek) a patrick/david fic i started when there were literally 15 fics for them on ao3 - it's patrick and stevie's text chain for all of the episodes of season four and i still feel smug about some of the things i managed to predict. i think it has the most hits of anything because it was there at the Beginning on ao3, it's got the most chapters, and i did accidentally leave it unfinished for like two years. (oops.) [but it has an incredible podfic!]

second most kudos: the best made plans are your open hands (911) for a fic that kind of walloped me upside the head and made me write it in like... a single evening, the reception on this has been SO sweet!!! an au where maddie takes buck with her when she leaves home at 18. i call it my 'happy healthy buckley verse' and i even have some more headcanons for it in the tag i have for it. in my mind, nothing ever really goes wrong for these two in this verse; it's my emotional support au.

third most comments: i only wanna be alone with you (schitt's creek) another patrick/david fic, this one written for a challenge. (a deadline always increases the likelihood of me finishing a fic.) this is probably (?) the ~sexiest thing i've ever written and it is... like not that explicit lmao. it also had a prompt that made me want to jump out of window bc my secondhand embarrassment threshold is practically zero - but i managed to write something that even my poor little soul could read and enjoy. [technically, 3rd most comments is the previous fic, but this one isn't far off in 4th place.]

fourth most bookmarks: deliver us unto each other (the old guard) this fic is my favorite child. i just think the stuff i love writing and the stuff i'm good at writing collided in this fic in a really lovely way and i'm so stinkin' proud of it. i felt feral while writing it lmao. it's about nicky's complex but deeply earnest and loving relationship with god and how his love for joe actually reaffirms his faith!! plus some great nicky + nile bonding.

fifth most words: i fell heavy into your arms (as the world turns) this is not my favorite of my luke/noah fics but i am very glad one of them made it on the list because all of my longest stuff is for this fandom and i miss nuke an unreasonable amount. those big bang prompts could pull 30k from me, no problem!!! this one's an au where noah is a detective and he has to solve damian's murder - and holden is a suspect :(

and least amount of words: Commandeered (h50) god this one was written so long ago it's still got an uppercase letter in the title 😬 also back in the day when i was still posting individual drabbles as their own fics - i've learned better! this fic represents my intense mcdanno phase, which still lingers in my heart like poison. (or a bomb.) genuinely a delightful prompt tho - an au where danny is the navy SEAL and steve is the jersey transplant. i honestly think i pulled this one off pretty well! they still sound very much like themselves.
