All light generates electrical signals in the retina at the back of your eye and in the cortex region of your brain.
Red and blue lights generate the largest signals. Green light generates the smallest signals. This is probably why it’s less likely to bother people with photophobia. For some people, migraine symptoms may even improve.
Green light therapy is more than just a green light bulb or a green glow. Instead, it involves a specific, narrow band of green light from a special lamp. You have to spend time in this green light while filtering out all other light.
But what is really known about green light therapy? Is it a viable option for easing the intensity of migraine attacks?
What does the research say?
Many people with migraine experience photophobia, which can exacerbate pain.
A 2016 studyTrusted Source found that green light is significantly less likely to exacerbate migraine attacks than white, blue, amber, or red. Almost 80 percent of study participants reported intensified symptoms with every color except green, which only affected half as many. Twenty percent of participants reported that green light reduced migraine pain.
The researchers suggest that at low intensities and filtering out all other light, green light may lessen the intensity of photophobia and migraine pain.
A 2017 study involved three groups of rats with neuropathic pain.
One group was bathed in green light from LED strips. A second group was exposed to room light and contact lenses allowing the green spectrum wavelength to pass through. A third group had opaque contact lenses that blocked green light.
Both groups exposed to green light benefited, with effects lasting 4 days from the last exposure. The group that was deprived of green light saw no benefit. No side effects were observed.
It’s thought that green light may increase certain pain-relieving chemicals in the brain.
A small, randomized, clinical trial is currently being carried out that focuses on fibromyalgia and migraine pain. Participants will use an LED green light strip at home every day for 10 weeks. Then their level of pain, use of pain relievers, and quality of life will be assessed. {read}

New study released has found measurable biomarkers of ME/CFS. More specifically, PI-ME/CFS.
If anyone’s impostor syndrome is getting the better of them today I suggest you give it a quick skim. They’ve discovered ways to possibly have inclusion criteria for diagnosis in addition to the current exclusion criteria. They’ve also unequivocally proven that this is a real, physical illness that is characterised by real, physical damage.
Also if anyone struggles to read medical literature, here is a non-scientific article about it.

My Dad may have officially retired from practicing medicine but he still gets and reads medical journals. He pulled this out of the latest New England Journal of Medicine (January 19, 2023) and mailed it to me, because my son -- his grandson -- is trans, and like a good Jew my Dad worries.
While it is true that "unanswered questions remain," to quote the note from my father he included with the article, honestly, the results seem awfully positive to me. When you put kids with gender dysphoria on the hormones they are asking for, "appearance congruence, positive affect and life satisfaction increase." Also good news, their "depression and anxiety symptoms decreased."
The TLDR of it is that it's still hard to be trans, but hormone therapy helps and should be used when appropriate. Medical science agrees generally, and specifically so does this 2 year long study.

So I decided to look up how much a deadly dose of kratom would be (regular toxicity varies widely from person to person but I figure there must be an amount no human body can tolerate), and I find this case study, and this lady took an INSANE amount for her FIRST TIME using kratom:
Tumblr media
My tolerance is pretty high and I don't take more than 4 capsules at a time, and one bottle of extract (1 or 2 oz iirc) would be enough for an entire day. So I'm not sure if she just hit the deadly level or blew right past it!
Anyways, this study is useful to know for 1.) Recognizing the symptoms of an overdose that warrants calling an ambulance (blue lips) and how to treat it (naloxone, aka Narcan, the same stuff they use for opioids). They sell Narcan kits at my local pharmacy so I should keep one on hand 😬

Researchers have previously studied ibogaine as a potential treatment for opioid or cocaine dependence. While the recent study is one of the earliest to investigate ibogaine in relation to PTSD, the psychedelic compounds MDMA and psilocybin are in late-stage trials for PTSD treatment.
Alan Davis, a clinical researcher at Ohio State University who is unaffiliated with the study, tells Nature News that he agrees the data support launching trials to further test ibogaine. However, he says that MDMA and psilocybin may currently be better candidates for veterans’ PTSD treatment. He is not the only researcher looking at the study’s results with caution.
“Although the results have large effect sizes, most psychological studies will show improvement with any intervention,” says Amy Badura Brack, a psychologist at Creighton University who was not involved with the study, to Wired.
Though its results appear promising, the study did have some drawbacks. It was limited to a small sample size, lacking both participant diversity and a placebo arm. Researchers plan to continue monitoring study participants, publish the results and launch future research to better understand ibogaine and TBI treatment. {read}
