*wave* i'm back! after a looooooong hiatus.

i got so caught up in life and school (as one does). no details, but- the past two years have been one heck of a ride!

anyway, i'm pretty excited to be posting again. hopefully, this sticks.

115 Days into Med School

My first semester in med school came to a full circle. Though I feel like I've already gone through all the emotions—the ups and the downs— I know this is just a taste of what's to come.

At least that's what I have repeatedly heard from doctors I met.

"Mahirap talaga ang med school. Ganun lang talaga siya."

"You are being prepared for what you will face in the real word."

And when everyone's morale was at a critical low,

"I read the study material 7 times until I felt sick of it."

I started med school feeling lost. At some point, I felt like I'm starting to figure out where to plant my feet. But as we close the semester, I'm feeling more lost than I did at the beginning.

I began the journey motivated and grateful. Somewhere in the middle, I got shaken and unsure as my exams returned in a stringbof failing marks—a constant feeling of blundering through my small group discussions (SGDs) & OSCEs. But with today's event, I am reminded of the privilege I have been enjoying these past four months— despite the hardships.

I learned that emotions—while they can be a signal to something I need to pay attention to—are just emotions at the end of the day. They won't stay for long. So just feel the emotion but don't dwell on it.

One thing for sure, I would remember all the novel things I felt in med school.

Despite the heaviness I felt lately, I want to carry the sense of wonder and gratitude throughout the days ahead. If I feel lost, I want to be reminded that I am in a place of privilege.

For today, so far, i finished one two submissions for Therapeutics and Medicine History taking. I’ll be studying for our case presentation tomorrow wherein we have a very strict proctor so I really have to do well since it will also be a group grade 🥺😬

It’s difficult and there’s a lot of information I need to stuff into my brain that only seems to accept Netflix and anime on most days, but I’m loving Anatomy class right now! I think this will be one of the hardest things you'll ever do in med school: to keep believing in your dreams when everything seems to go against you. You see, med school has a way of making you doubt yourself, making you ask yourself things like "Is it worth it? Can I really do this? Will I be able to make it?" Med school will strip you of your self-esteem, that confidence you built in your undergrad years will at one point in your med school life become useless. Med school will make you cry, make you feel worthless, torture you physically, mentally, emotionally until nothing's left of you except --- of course, your passion. The reason why you're doing all of this in the first place. Med school will break you, but as long as you don't forget your purpose - your "why"s, you will rise from adversity and you'll make it through. You see, this is how med school will make you strong. This is how med school determines your strong will and determination. Show everyone you have what it takes. Don't give up. NEW STUDYBLR

I’m Reese, from the PH. I’m an incoming Med stud, so I thought I needed to have a studyblr badly and find great inspos. I hope to get on it more than several times a week, ‘cause I know Medicine’s gonna suck the life out of me. I’m also new in Tumblr (yikess) so pls bear with me lol

Basically, i dont know anyone from this side of our country. but i am willing to socialize eventhough it drains the energy out of me.

i dont know their native dialect. but i am willing to learn.

i dont know how long will i survive being alone here. far from my loved ones, away from Palawan of which i had loved all those years.

BUT THEN,

my dream of becoming a doctor should be my main priority.

hey self, its okay that sometimes you feel way too lonely.

do realize that whatever it is that you are feeling? you’re not the only one feeling it, its practically universal.

even if you say that some people only lives 2 hrs away, but hey, you know naman that its still hard as hell to be far from your fam.

Sincerely thanking all the scientists, the developers of SNS. for creating such a portal for people to not miss that much their own families. staying connected and feeling the love being sent.

I guess this will likely be what would happen to me in my future.

Blogging away to ease the sadness, the loneliness, and to lighten up the load in my mind.

I read today that it is a good exercise to write in a 3rd person view to be able to empathize with yourself.

So I am trying it,

             She is quite anxious about her future.               Yes, it is still to be written,              So it is quite eccentric of her,              To be so nervous that she barely slept.

             Thinking about the times she was comfortably at home.              Even remembering the days she hated it so.              For comfortable it is, she longs to embark on her adventure.              To be able to live up her legend.
