We all know that haikyuu is packed with life lessons, especially about growth and competition but one of the things that brought me so much comfort in life is the story of Miya twins. Both Osamu and Atsumu were hard workers but what differentiated them when it comes to volleyball prowess was their priorities. Osamu being a naturally gifted athlete was a major push in Atsumu's life; they made each other better (and worse in some ways). But it was Atsumu's choice to become a professional player and a great setter that pulled him ahead. Atsumu was dedicated to it and if Osamu wanted he could've reached the same skill level (or maybe even more).
Basically as long as you love and want something enough, despite there being "better" people out there, you'll reach greatness in your own right. And I think it's beautiful that consistent effort, even if it takes longer than "natural talent" (which is a topic for another day), will get you where you want to be.
Also, you can be good at something and even have potential to be greater and yet not choose it. You don't HAVE TO pursue anything just because it's expected or even possibly the most natural course for you to take. What matters is what you love.

You can't convince me Gale wasn't totally advertising himself as marriage material throughout the entirety of his romance. He's got a tower. It's got a great kitchen and a wine cellar. He can cook. He'll formally introduce you to Tara over a nice dinner. His mother will love you. And after so many years of the bar being in the pits of hell for irl men I fell for that shit hook, line, and sinker. Feel his shirt that smells like a library. It's husband material.

Laios & Senshi: Non-Stereotypical Masculinity in Dungeon Meshi 🐲🍳🧂
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Laios and Senshi are such underrated examples of what masculinity could be, not the puffed-up, loud and performative version, but something more quiet, curious, and connected.
✦ Listen me, I'm just saying:
Laios isn’t hyper-muscular or brooding. Instead, he’s a little chubby, wide-eyed, and deeply excited to cook literal monsters. He’s genuinely passionate, even when it gets weird. He’s silly but never foolish, obsessed but still capable of growth. And when he misses the emotional mark (like getting carried away with cooking at the wrong moment), the story lets him reflect. He listens, and he changes. This way, he tries to learn as a leader.
And Senshi? He bonds with aquatic horses. He’s a warrior and a cook. He sews frog costumes and enjoys it. He learns from Chilchuck and Chilchuck with him. He cries over the griffin, and no one mocks him for it. When he’s struggling, the others gather around, not to fix him, but to feel with him. It’s masculinity built on respect and empathy.
Tumblr media
They sew frog suits and cook weird things. They save each other, literally and emotionally. And when about through it all, they’re allowed to be men without being rigid about it. They have different perspectives, they make mistakes, but they listen and learn from each other. That’s the kind of brotherhood that heals.
And can we talk about how their interactions with women, like Marcille and Falin, these are refreshingly free of hypersexualization or pressured of romantic tension? The women often save them. And it’s treated as normal. Because it should be.

Girl help- why are some of y'all acting like Li Haolin kills off every woman he writes. Like, I'm not here to defend him on everything in regards to how he handles women cuz I do have my own minor gripes, but that thing in particular isn't true. Plenty of the Link Click women lived/got a happy ending and there's still women who are major characters who haven't died yet, so uh- for those not familiar with his other works, please don't fall for some of the doomerism going on about tbhx women who haven't even showed up yet.

as a persona fan. i HATE atlus. like, theyre always SOOOO close to having really good social commentary on like, pretty much anything in general i guess. but. they pussy out and it has the opposite effect!! like, biggest example that i actually have well formulated thoughts over is persona 4.. i wrote a long ass essay type thing that id honestly like to rewrite now that my thoughts are more solidified on this but, tl;dr… :
kanji isnt gay and naoto isnt trans. kanji’s story is about accepting that hes got feminine traits and learning to stop internalizing what everyone says about him to be true. naoto’s is about accepting that she is a girl, and she IS everything that people look down on her for, and learning to stop rejecting herself just so she isnt disrespected and dismissed by others.
kanji isnt gay and naoto isnt trans, but they should have been. being queer is very obviously a theme in their stories, and without looking deeper into the characters and their arcs, on the surface level, the story is saying that they’re learning to accept that they ARENT queer. which is pretty clearly homophobic and transphobic.
the entire game is about accepting yourself for who you truly are. for the character that is EXPLICITLY stated to be gay and for the character who EXPLICITLY lives socially as a male despite being born a girl to both have their true selves actually be “normal” is… counterintuitive. while it does fit within the theme of accepting yourself, it’s saying to accept yourself as “normal” and “correct”, not as someone who doesnt fit into societal norms. it undermines the idea of being true to yourself. it’s SO close to being a great message that anyone, no matter who they are, can relate to, but it singles out the unusuals, the people who really need to hear that it’s ok to be whoever you are. i could go on and on about how it’s honestly impressive that the writers managed to miss the mark by such a small amount that it ends up completely undermining the entire thing, but it would be redundant (just like my use of the word ‘undermine’ within two run-on sentences..), and i want to take this back to my original point
the writers at atlus are very, very skilled. its amazing, i really really respect them. but at the same time, i think that their ability to write amazing characters and themes and weave them together into a universe with such inconsistent rules is exactly what makes this so infuriating. i KNOW they’re 100% capable of not being misogynistic in their portrayal of women, i KNOW they’re capable of not being homophobic, i KNOW they can take topics like misogyny and homophobia and transphobia and explore the reasoning behind why people are close minded and hateful, and how it affects people who are at the receiving end of the hatred.
but they dont, because either the writers themselves are prejudiced, or what i think is faaaarrr more likely, the executives think it’s too “risky” to talk about and criticize bigotry, and that they want it to be as palatable to everyone as possible. unfortunately that means no gay people, no trans people, no “controversial” minorities in general.. sure, we can have a few complex and well written women as a treat, but they either have to be fanservice or largely irrelevant to the rest of the plot.
no conclusion paragraph this isnt english class
thanks if u read my 11:00 pm hyperfocus fueled rant i am sending you joy and happiness and good things

Abby saying that her foxes fight always fight back shows just how much character growth Neil has done.
At the start of the foxhole court we establish that he’s a runner, if anything goes wrong he’ll just dip. But he joins the foxes, which is against his nature and everything his mother taught him, he says he’ll leave before the season starts, well maybe before they play the ravens. And then he just doesn’t leave.
HE STAYS
He makes a deal with Andrew, rips into Riko for Kevin, he knows that he should run but he doesn’t. He lets those annoying bastards into his heart. He brings the racket with him, TO FIGHT. He goes to evermore so Andrew is safe and he FIGHTS Riko the whole time there.
When he starts to get the countdown messages he doesn’t leave, he STAYS. He fights Lola after his found family aren’t in danger anymore. He gave up, because it was pointless, but in the end he fights the fbi agents. Because that’s what the foxes taught him.
He went from flight to fight and I think it’s beautiful. He always had that in him but the foxes brought it out. They made him feel safe enough to be the little sh!t he was always supposed to be.
Neil Jolsten, the man you are

Currently watching CriMi 8x15 (the one with the conversion therapy camp) and if you ever need evidence that JJ likes women… just look at how affected she was when her and Blake were walking around the camp. Everyone on the team agrees that conversion therapy is horrendous throughout the episode, but JJ just absolutely rages against it. She looked like she was almost in tears at certain points. I’m sorry but that’s more than just strong allyship my friends…
