Behold!!!! The piece that got delayed by my surprise visit to death prevention jail end of last year!
This is my submission to @thewhumpyprintingpress's ABCs of Whump zine!!! It's available for purchase, go check it out :)
I was so excited to participate, and it was such a pleasure :) This piece took a while, and it is right on the edge of my current capabilities as an artist, but it was incredibly fun and rewarding to work on, I'm very proud of how it turned out <3
Featured is my mer shifter boi Pete from my fav project Shifting Phases :) I love him very much and could not resist another oppourtunity to have a work featuring him published.
(I had to scrunch it significantly to get Tumblr to take it ^-^')

Due to their unique, eye-catching appearances and general durability, Dryads are considered the ideal pet.
Easy to capture (all you have to do is threaten them with a torch), and easy to keep (dirt, sunlight, and water are all you really need), a Dryad is sure to make a dazzling addition to any collection. And the best part is, there's no guilt attached. After all, they're not people, they're plants.
Tree Dryads are the most common species. Though nearly indistinguishable from a regular tree while in their plant form, they sure do stand out in their humanoid form!
Tumblr media
The complexion of most Tree Dryads is green, but they'll also tend to take on traits of their species of tree, making each subset look wholly unique.
While rarer and more expensive than Tree Dryads, Flower Dryads are worth every cent. Their tiny, delicate appearance is sure to delight anyone, and they come in a variety of gorgeous colors.
Tumblr media
Another close relative to the Dryad is the elusive and dangerous Naiad. While a Dryad can be found in the home of any self-respecting lord, a Naiad will rarely be seen outside of a cirque or private menagerie.
Tumblr media
The beauty of Naiads and rare Dryads is undeniable, but most experts will agree that a common Tree Dryad makes the best pet for beginners.

Hi again, my love!
Can I request something with mermaids?
offers ice cream as well <33
Hi thelazywitchphotographer! Of course! Thanks for requesting this, here you go!
Whumper pushed open the door to their quarters. They were greeted by the quiet cries of Whumpee.
“My darling,” Whumper said, approaching them, “what’s wrong? I would think you would be acclimated to your new life by now…”
Whumpee turned to look at Whumper with tear-filled eyes. Whumper’s own eyes widened at what they saw. Their darling mermaid’s body was littered with deep cuts and angry, purple bruises. Blood trickled down from a nasty gash in their tail, staining the water of their tub with crimson. When Whumper spoke, it was with a fragile, practiced calm.
“Who did this to you?” they asked.
Whumpee sniffled.
“I-I don’t know their name,” they said.
“Describe them to me,” Whumper said gently, “you’re not in any trouble, little fish.”
Whumpee took a deep, shuddering breath, and described their assailant as best they could.
“Crewmate,” Whumper cursed.
Whumper’s hand settled on the handle of their cutlass, they turned to leave when Whumpee’s sniffles brought their attention back.
“Oh,” they said, “forgive me, little Whumpee. Let me treat your wounds first.”
Whumper lifted Whumpee out of the tub in a bridal carry. They deposited them on their bed, then went to a nearby cabinet, fetching medicine and bandages from it. Whumper poured the medicine onto a cloth.
“This might sting, but it’ll help, I promise.”
With that, Whumper dabbed the cloth into the gash in Whumpee’s tail. Their screams made Whumper flinch, but they continued to work anyway. When everything was medicated, Whumper dressed the wounds in soft, white bandages. Whumpee’s screams had died down to pitiful, intermittent sobs by then. Whumper held their mermaid close and ran a hand through their hair.
“Shh, shhh,” they soothed, “you did so wonderful, my little fish. I promise, I won’t let this happen again.”
Whumper grabbed a bottle filled with a strange liquid. They lifted Whumpee’s chin and held the bottle to their lips.
“Drink,” they said, “you need rest. This will help.”
Whumpee knew better than to disobey, so they drank. Whumper smiled softly and helped them into a laying position, covering them with a blanket.
Whumpee slept for many hours. When they did wake, it was to the sound of the door opening once again.
“Whumpee,” Whumper said, “come on deck. I need you for something.”
Whumper picked Whumpee up and carried them out on deck. Whumpee shielded their eyes from the bright sun with a bandaged hand. Whumper sat Whumpee down in another tub that had been prepared for them.
“First Mate,” Whumper called.
“Aye, captain?” First Mate asked.
“Bring forward the scum that thought they could touch what’s mine.”
“Very good, captain.”
First Mate dragged Crewmate forward.
“On your knees, filth,” First Mate growled.
Crewmate shakily obliged.
“Whumpee,” Whumper said, “is this the person who hurt you?”
“I-”
“Tell the truth,” Whumper warned, “I will know if you lie.”
“…Yes,” Whumpee said quietly, “it was them.”
Whumper kissed Whumpee on the crown of their head.
“Thank you,” they said, “because you were honest, I’m going to let you choose their punishment.”
Whumpee stared at Crewmate. Even though the pirate had hurt them, they didn’t want anyone else to suffer.
“Um, maybe, put them in the brig?” WHumpee asked uncertainly.
Whumper smiled and nodded.
“A fitting punishment,” they said, “First Mate, throw Crewmate in the brig.”
Whumpee breathed a sigh of relief.
“-After their twenty lashes. Two for each wound I had to treat.”
Whumpee blinked. Not that!
“No! Captain, please!” Crewmate begged.
“Spare me your mewling before I decide to cut your tongue out,” Whumper said coldly.
“Whumper-” Whumpee started.
“They deserve it, my darling,” Whumper interjected, “you’ll understand one day.”
Whumper picked up Whumpee once again.
“I leave them in your capable hands, First Mate,” Whumper said, “my treasure doesn’t need to watch this.”
Whumper turned and carried their darling back to their quarters, just when Crewmate began to scream.

Mer Whump Things
Content: [Forced] Cannibalism, pet whump, dehumanisation, branding, teeth pulling.
They have the ability to make a noise that causes ringing in the ears of anyone within earshot. It's used to stun their prey.
A human-turned-merperson who's legs morphe into a tail when their skin touches water. They've gotta be extremely careful to not spill or touch water in public.
Merpeople are actually very passionate about collecting stuff. Sometimes if a human is pretty enough to them, they might not see the difference between them and a collectable. Or maybe they do but don't care :)
A mer whumper who tricks humans into getting into the ocean by pretending they can't swim. They might eventually let them go, or they might not. No one ever knows. This increases the amount of deaths caused by drowning in the area because no one can trust that that's actually what's going on.
Tears aren't enough to keep mer hydrated, but they taste delicious. Mer sometimes keep humans for that exact reason, just to make them cry so they can lap up the liquid from their eyes as it drips down their face. Some humans use it as a treat for their mer pet.
Branding a mer by ripping the scales off to make a pattern or to spell their initials.
Forcing a mer to eat a cooked mer tail and calling it seafood.
Pulling a mer's unusually sharp teeth out and using them as a necklace. Perhaps forcing them to wear their own teeth around their neck.

Hi! I hope it’s okay to ask this (and if it’s not please just ignore me, I’m still learning the ropes of this community!) I saw your merwhump post from a few days ago and I was wondering if you might have any ideas for scenarios where the whumpee and the whumper are both mers? Merwhump is one of my favorite tropes, but so many of them seem to involve a human whumper, and I’ve been looking for some inspiration where humans aren’t involved. Again, please forgive me if this isn’t the place to ask something like this!
Hi Anon! This is exactly the right place to ask something like that, and I'm so glad you did!
You're right that there isn't much whump where both are mers, so I hope this helps. (And I got a little carried away, sorry 😆😁)
Mer whump with two mers:
Saltwater would be uncomfortable and even painful for a mer accustomed to freshwater, and vice versa. Whumper could kidnap whumpee and drag them into whichever water they weren't used to. Imagine a freshwater mer experiencing the sting of salt water in their wounds for the first time, or trying to breath in water that makes their gills sting.
What if, like with humans, whumpee was allergic to certain things found in their environment, such as types of seaweed? For example, whumper could forcibly contain them in a patch of seaweed that made their skin itch, or expose them to secretions of fish that irritated their gills.
Different mers would be used to different depths of water, so whumper could pull whumpee down to a depth they weren't used to and keep them there, or pull them up to a shallow part of the water. Imagine a shallow water mer suffering under the pressure of deeper water, or a deep water mer feeling dizzy in shallow water.
In the same vein, different temperatures. A mer used to warmer water might get the mer version of frostbite, for example, if the mer whumper kept them in colder water; or a cold water mer might overheat in warmer water.
Also, a mer used to shallower, warmer water would be used to light, and a mer used to deep, cold water would be used to darkness. Imagine the mer being pulled down into the dark and being unable to see, or feeling deep water creatures brushing against them, the touch of teeth they'd never felt before; or a dark mer being blinded by the light of shallow water.
And what if whumper and whumpee were two different types of mer? What if the mer whumpee was a harmless type of mer, while whumper's type was known to be wild, dangerous, unpredictable? Or, switch them around and make it more interesting: whumper's variety is usually tamer and lives in colonies, while whumpee's is the "lone shark" type.

Whumpcember Day 13, Alt Prompt 7: Hunger
Zale is taunted in captivity.
CWs: mer whumpee; human whumpers; hunger; food used in manipulation; dehumanization
As time in his forced isolation went on, a new pain was added to the pile: hunger.
His arms and shoulders alternated between burning and aching from being held up by the chains. His tail, irritated from the fresh water, was starting to develop small scabs; his whole body and his lungs, unused to being out of water for this long, were strained and dry. He kept his eyes closed most of the time, trying to sleep, but the harsh artificial light made them smart all the same.
Zale wasn't sure how long it had been since he'd been captured; there were no windows for him to see the sun (or lack thereof) here. But, however long it had been, it was enough to leave him feeling weak, nauseous, and hollow in a way that only hunger could. Zale lived a good life in the ocean; he had rarely felt this way before. He would gladly starve for longer if he could do it back in the water.
Lost in his dazed thoughts, the mer flinched when the door opened. As heavy bootsteps walked in, he realized that he had started to drift off.
"Jesus, it got out of its tub," said Brimmer. "Why'd it do that?"
"Hmm. Perhaps we'll find out." Halloway crouched down in front of the mer. "Huh. Looks like he didn't bust his stitches, at least.
The entire time, Zale had been too shocked and scared to move. Now, when Holloway snaked an arm to touch his torso, he was all but frozen.
"Look at it, it's gone all still," Brimmer remarked.
"A fear response, maybe," said Holloway. He pawed at Zale's stitched and bandaged wound, not even bothering to look at the mer's petrified face. It was as if Zale was merely a curious object to him.
"It's healed remarkably fast. There must be something in its fish blood that boosts cell repair."
A sharp metallic clang made Zale jump again, and Holloway sword. "What the hell, man?"
Brimmer was standing with an impish expression on his bearded face. He held a metal bucket and a funny-looking tool. "Sorry," he said, not sounding the least bit apologetic. "I just wanted to see if that thing still had reflexes. I thought doctors did that," he said, all innocence.
"Don't quit your day job, Brimmer." Holloway rolled his eyes surface-ward.
...only it wasn't surface-ward at all, Zale thought. What a terrifying idea. He didn't know exactly how high up the rig reached, but it seemed like even the biggest of waves couldn't reach it.
The only thing above the place he was trapped in was sky.
Holloway was still talking. "...and then it'll be fine. I'll be confident that we won't accidentally kill a specimen, at least. Just feed him enough."
"Yeah, yeah, I know. You act like I'm an idiot," Brimmer complained.
"You are. Pretty sure you came outta your mom's ass instead of her cunt. Have fun."
"You love me, admit it!" Brimmer called after him. Holloway snorted and shut the door behind him.
It was then, alone with Zale, that Brimmer's playful grin faded and his eyes darkened. Zale winced under his glare. A whimper built up in his throat, but fear stopped him from letting it out.
Brimmer plunked the bucket down and took a step toward the chained mer. "Holloway thinks I'm some sort of subhuman like you, but he's the one who didn't even think to put salt water in your tub," he muttered. "Your skin's all itchy, isn't it?"
Zale's eyes widened in shock. Was Brimmer actually going to help him? Maybe he'd been wrong about this human! "Yes!" He tried to say, and this time he managed to contort his throat and mouth into making a sound that passed for the word if you knew what to expect.
"I'd hazard a guess," said Brimmer, tilting his head, "that you'd have a better time talking underwater, that right?"
Zale's heart leapt. "Yes!"
Brimmer affected a look of confusion. "What was that? I can't understand you."
"Y...yes?"
Brimmer shrugged and smiled cruelly. "Huh. Guess I got my hopes up."
Zale's heart fell. He looked into Brimmer's eyes, hoping for even a crumb of sympathy, but there was none. He felt a flash of bitterness for falling for the man's taunting, but any flash anger it could've caused was put out by the deep hopelessness that followed. He curled inwards on himself, dragging his irritated tail closer to his body.
"Bet you're hungry, though," Brimmer said.
Zale's head shot up, and the man grinned wider.
"Yeah. Surgery always takes it out on me, too," he said, nodding conversationally. "You like fish, little fish? You've got some real sharp teeth in that weird head of yours. Bet you're a meat-eater, huh?"
Zale copied his nod. His species ate plants, too, but the type they liked were a lot harder to find out in the open ocean. His stomach somehow felt even hollower now that he was thinking about food. Pleadingly, after a moment's hesitation, he scooted closer to Brimmer.
"Eurgh. No, don't get too close. You stink. So does this, I'll admit."
He reached into the metal bucket and lifted out an arm-length fish that Zale had never seen before. It had clearly been dead for a long time. The mer would have been concerned that he hadn't smelled it before now, but that was the last thing on his mind.
Brimmer held up a finger on his other hand. "Now, now. There's more than just food in my hand. If you can cooperate with me a bit, I'll give you the fish *and* I'll get you some seawater in that tub."
Whatever you want! Zale thought.
Slowly, Brimmer reached his free hand into his pocket and withdrew a short, sharp knife.
Zale flinched back and began thrashing at his restraints, but Brimmer just shook his head, smiling. "Now, now. I'm not going to cut you. That's your job."
What?
"I'll unchain one of your hands," Brimmer explained, "and then you'll take the knife and cut one teeny, itsy-bitsy little line in that slimy skin of yours. Easy as that. Really, it's a small price to pay."
Zale simply stared at him. He was in so much pain, he was so scared, and he was *starving,* but this -- this was sick. This was wrong. This was demeaning.
As if nothing else so far had been all of the above.
""Come on, ya stupid little fish. Your choice." He waggled the dead fish over Zale's head.
Zale's stomach was threatening to throw up what little it had left. The mer gritted his teeth. He hated the idea of playing the human's weird game, but....if it was only a small cut...just a small favor, and then he could eat....wouldn't it be worth it?
Slowly, shame rising in his gut, Zale nodded.
"Good choice!" Brimmer exclaimed in a tone that made Zale feel even worse. "Now, let's get that hand free...weird fuckin webbed fingers, ugh...aaaand there you go, nice and easy, take the knife. Ha! Look at you, you look like you don't even know how to use it! The other guys said you might try and attack me, but I knew you wouldn't have it in you."
He laughed. "Lemme guess -- you mers are the weird hippie types, right? I'm surprised you even eat meat. You look like you don't have an ounce of fight in you. See, this is why humans have control of the world. We're just better."
Zale didn't reply. He just hung his head and obeyed, telling himself that he was only listening because he wanted that food, not because any of Brimmer's words were true.
Hours later -- alone, stomach full, and tub filled with sea water -- he was still telling himself, only this time, a small, hopeless part of him wondered if he was an exception.

Mer whump where the captain of a ship captures a mer (like a spiky pointy deep sea kinda mer) and puts it in a tank/net
Except captain is not only harming the mer but also their crew members
During their journey the captain rarely has anyone feed the mer and it becomes hungry and eventually the crew members get so angry at their captain that they FEED THEM TO THE MER
