𝐣 「 @anywherexwhen / STARTER CALL 」
“ Alright, now Dorium said what I'm looking for is... somewhere around here. ” Jenny mutters to herself, rolling her eyes. The man was getting on her last nerves, but . . . she wouldn't admit that she actually liked him. She turned a corner, glancing down at the datapad with directions on it for a split second, only to walk right into someone, letting out a small oof of surprise.
She's about to get annoyed at whoever it is for not looking where they're going, when she glances up, right into the eyes of the Doctor. Oh no. She's pretty sure this is the same face, which means . . . he might not even know her yet. She had to be careful. “ . . . Hi? ”

so the comments are pointing at The Doctor's Daughter, and before I kinda assumed that was a different process because they didn't mention 'parthenogenesis' in it literally, but maybe they're not that different? But what do we know of that machine?
It was a 'progenation machine' which did artificial reproduction from a single organism by taking a sample of diploid cells, splitting them into haploids, recombining them in a different arrangement and growing the result into an offspring.
Obvious differences: the machine on Messaline in 6012 produces adults in an instant, the machine on the Baby Station Beta in 21506 grows babies slower.
So maybe they're related methods, but different, or maybe the principle is still a bit different?
parthenogenesis baby machine?
ok so in Space Babies it is said the space babies are produced with a parthenogenesis machine. Well,
parthenogenesis is a kind of asexual reproduction, aka producing babies with one genetic parent.
There's various species that have this kind of asexual reproduction in nature, and usually in animals it means embryos develop from an unfertilized egg cell. For algae apparently an embryo can also develop from a single sperm instead.
We do not know of a single mammal species that does parthenogenesis in nature, but science already created mice by it (with great difficulty) so parthenogenesis for humans is a cool concept for a scifi future
But my question is: I'd assume the most logical first step for human parthenogenesis would be the one with a single egg cell, like all animals that do it in nature. Does this mean that all those space babies have XX chromosomes, no XY's at all? The other possibility is that they made sperm-parthenogenesis in humans possible of course, but that would be a first(?) in animals whatsoever?
#are there reasons that further in the future this one society uses a slower method of lab reproduction than Messaline did#space babies#doctor who space babies#doctor who#the fifteenth doctor#jenny doctor who#the doctor's daughter#progenation#parthenogenesis#baby station beta#dw fandom#dw spoilers#dw speculation

The Eras Tour | The Tortured Poets Department section | Version 1
Vivienne Westwood 'Messaline Orb Three Row Choker' - $600.00
Many more thoughts to come on the newly added Tortured Poets set to the Eras Tour, but it feels noteworthy with this necklace to take a moment and track the progression of VW as an Easter Egg.
Back in January, Taylor threw us an intentional Easter egg red herring courtesy of a candid outfit while out to dinner with Blake Lively. Her ensemble (a velvet olive green dress and leather boots adorned with snakes) screamed reputation (as she knew it would be perceived as such) but the hidden clue all along was the VW bag she was carrying.
The bag in question featured VW's iconic 'orb' logo which we also see here on this choker. The orb, to VW, was meant to be a take on the Sovereign orb of the British Royal Family and a cheeky reference to Vivienne's self-described title of "queen" of fashion.
We also saw one of Vivienne Westwood's ruffled shirts pop up in the "Fortnight" music video as Taylor received electroshock therapy for her perceived descent into madness.
And now we see this designer on the Eras Tour stage, bringing together the Clara Bow-esque choker accessorizing from Taylor's 2024 Grammys appearance full circle.
It also doesn't escape my notice that Taylor would opt to use the designs of one of the most well know British designers in the stage incarnation of what she dubbed Female Rage: The Musical from an album that achingly documents two high profile splits from British men.

There was the many questions going on in her mind of where she was, and why were people wearing masks. It was only a matter of time before she was run into though, and she smiles wryly at the individual before her. “It’s probably my fault you ran into me. I’m kinda confused as to why and what’s going on here.” She says not minding having been run into, and besides it hadn’t hurt the warrior created girl. “And so I am just in the way as it were.” Not to mention the languages she was hearing was nothing like she had ever heard before.
@jennymaltzurrak liked here for a Halloween starter!
The Doctor is wearing a costume, of course. They're dressed as a vampire, and on their way to meet their companion, Esfir. Of course, with it being Halloween, there are bound to be crowds. Still, the Doctor navigates them with ease, saying "Excuse me, pardon me, on my way to a friend's house, excuse me." Then they bump into someone they hadn't noticed. "I am so sorry!" They say, an apologetic smile crossing their face.

"I didn't see you there." Their tone is apologetic too, as they look at the other person with a concerned expression. "Are you okay?" If not, the Doctor would be happy to help before picking up their companion.

Headcanon theories about Effie trinket and her family after sunrise on the reaping - cause it’s been sitting in my brain since I finished the book and I need to know more.
So in the meanwhile I will speculate 😉✨
1. Great uncle Silius died a while before the events of the book. Great aunt Messalina is in her 70s. (“Silius was not a slack in the threads department either”| “my great aunt said she would sponsor you, not just to help me at school)
2. Messalina is the trinket one - which means she is Effie’s grandfathers sister, and she is her father’s aunt.
3. Lenore dove likes her pretty with a purpose - Effie likes / makes her purpose beautiful (her fashion choices and her family history with decorative weapons)
4. As we are now know that the Abernathy family was a rebel family - maybe the trinkets and them combined forces in / collaborated in the dark days uprising
5. And the trinkets are not cannibals (I have many theories about this, just feels that cannibalism its the instinctive option, and then to connect it with THE effie trinket - it feels so obvious.)
6. Also my main theory was that they were actual rebels and it’s was probably inspired by the Greek messalina and Silius affair and their plan to overthrown the emperor - in thg universe they tried to over probably tried to overthrow snows predecessor.
7. And that’s what ruined the trinkets reputation - like Greek messalinas reputation was destroyed.
8. And also it makes me feel like there are one reason I can think of as to why the trinkets still hold their place somehow - before the war they were in the same social class as the havensbees, and their reputation being hurt only caused a dent in their wealth.
9. About Effie positive attitude and her being a badass in general, maybe I’m reflecting thought - she talked about it like it is a weapons in a battle. I feel like she was sick as a child or teen, with a non chronic illness (cancer comes to mind but then again - I might be reflecting) and acquired this mentality during those times. And the potential of things to experience are scary as hell - maybe that’s why she seems not to be afraid of anything.
10. Also we can all agree that Prosie probably died somewhere along the line? (before the 74th games or during mockingjay)
11. Since Effie was the district 12 escort for 25 years, she was bound to know everyone in official duty - including the peacekeepers. So when in CF she said about the red haired avoxes (livania and Darius) that they’ve got a matching pair this year - she recognised Darius and that was her way to alert Haymitch without alerting snow. Same with the victory tour in 11 when they shot the man - she was in 11 before in Haymitchs tour. She saw the justice building before. She was basically screaming that something is wrong in the only way she could.
12. Messaline and Proserpina have a better connection then Effie and messaline, but Effie is more like messaline then Prosie.
I will probably have more but thats that for now 🩷

It's Fashion Plate Friday!
Today's plate is a detached page from The Delineator, likely from April of 1909. No description unfortunately, as I haven't been able to find an online copy of the April 1909 edition.

If anyone has the book this is from, and can share page 645/the description, let me know! I'll edit it in here with credits (nickname and/or link, whatever works for you).
Below is the reverse of this page (which does not have the description of the colour plate, unfortunately)

Popular Princess and Semi-Princess Dresses in Gored and Plaited Designs
THE panel of this semi-princess dress (2934) for ladies can be made with small belt extensions beyond the tucks at both sides, which are held in position over the regular belt, by large ornamental buttons, or, if desired, the edges may be plain. The blouse-waist has tucks from a yoke depth in front, over the shoulders on a line with with the sleeve seams, and down the back to the waist. The fulness at the waist is gathered in to the belt, both sides of the under-arm seams. The neck is cut to a square opening; this, however, can be made high by a chemisette, finished with or with-out the high collar. This chemisette is attached in a way which leaves the outline of the neck opening free, and it appears as a separate part of the garment. The one-seamed leg-o'-mutton sleeve may be plain, or tucked to correspond with the waist, and may be in full or three-quarter length. The plaits of the straight skirt are stitched from the waistline, where it is attached to the blouse-waist, to either of two depths; below the stitching they are creased in to the lower edge, terminating in a clearing or shorter length of about four and five-eighth yards. The plaits are often cut away beneath to avoid extra fulness at the hips. This design could be suitably used for bordered goods, as the skirt is straight at the lower edge; the bands at the neck opening, waistline and wrists of the sleeves would be of the border also. Cotton voile or marquisette will give a good effect trimmed with messaline bands. Linen might be used, with embroidered insertion, or hand-embroidered bands.
Design 2934, for fifteen cents, may be had in six sizes, from thirty-two to forty-two inches bust measure. The medium size requires seven and one eighth yards of bordered goods 46 inches wide, or eight yards of material 36 inches wide; or twelve and five-eighth yards of 24-inch goods will be required, with one-half yard of lace 18 inches wide for the yoke and collar.
THIS semi-princess dress (2815) in sheath effect, for ladies, has Gibson line with the bust. The fulness at the high waistline is gathered into a belt. The square neck opening can be made high by the use of a yoke-facing attached to the French lining: this may have a high rounded or straight collar, or be in the popular collarless effect. The panels are made in one with the front and back gores of the four-piece skirt, and have tucks along the edges. The skirt measures about three yards at the lower edge. The dress opening is beneath the left side of the front panel. A full-length or three-quarter two-piece sleeve of the mousquetaine type is illustrated, with a seam at the inner side of the arm; the under part of the sleeve is brought around to the outside, and gathered to the plain edge of the other portion under a tuck. A plain two-seam sleeve is also provided which may be in either the full or three-quarter or cap-sleeve length. Pongee, linen and veiling are being used extensively for the Summer dresses. This one could be made of pongee, trimmed with buttons or soutache ornaments along the panel and sleeve tucks and around the neck opening. The chemisette might be cut from fancy tucking, all-over lace or embroidery. The outline of the neck opening and narrow belt would look well embroidered in scallops. Or the edges could be left straight, and be finished by plain or braided bands. Foulard would be very pretty for this dress. A light rose color figured in a deeper shade might be used, with the panel sides, belt and trimming bands piped with silk in self-tone with the figure or background of the dress material.
Design 2895, for fifteen cents, may be had in seven sizes. from thirty-two to forty-four inches bust measure. The medium size will require five and one-half yards of material 36 inches wide, and five-eighths of a yard of fancy tucking 18 inches wide for the chemisette and collar, and one-half yard of silk 20 inches wide for the trimming folds.
AN EXTREMELY attractive model (2898) is shown by this six-piece princess dress. The idea of its style being perfectly adapted to all figures-slender, medium and stout-is rather unusual, but it certainly is decidedly chic on a small form, and it must be admitted that the long unbroken gores look much trimmer on a stout woman than many of the loosely fitting dresses many of them wear. It can be made in a short sweep, or in a clearing length, measuring about three yards at the lower edge, and the seams extend up to bust depth; from here the gores are narrowed into strap effects which will be seamed at the shoulders. The side-front and back extensions are in the popular Gibson style-covering the sleeve seams of the guimpe (2688) beneath. A very novel effect might be had on this dress, by making slashes about two inches long, at intervals around the V-shaped neck opening. A long tie of messaline silk or satin in self-tone with the dress would be drawn through these openings; or black could be used with embroidered or fringed ends. Pieces of braid or narrow folds of the dress material might be interlaced between the straps, holding them in their right position over the shoulders, as many times the outer ones will slip down over the arms, unless they are fastened in some way to the under-blouse or guimpe. The dress opening is at the left side-front seam, and is made over lining portions, held together at the center-front of the dress by hooks and eyes. The gore at the back is in a decided habit style. The skirt measures about two and seven-eighth yards at the lower edge. Nearly any material of medium weight is suitable for a dress of this kind, and the openings can be piped with goods of self-tone, or a different color could be used for this purpose; or, if preferred, very narrow bias bands could be stitched around the outline. Braid would show to good advantage. White linen might be used with black soutache over the shoulders in designs which could be partially brought down the side and center-front and back gores. Rough silk in a light shade of heliotrope might be used for this dress trimmed with large soutache ornaments up the strap effects, graduating in size toward the shoulders; with these buttons the strap edges could be outlined by a row of corresponding braid. This trimming could be of the same shade as the dress, or in a deeper tone. If a dress of heavier material is desired, chiffon broadcloth could be used, trimmed with satin pipings and buttons.
Design 2898, for fifteen cents, may be had in seven sizes, from thirty-two to forty-four inch-es at the bust. The medium size will require five and one-fourth yards of material 36 inches wide.
