Quick Update, the MHA campaign is gonna go through a reboot after some stuff came up last session, so I’ll tell mostly about said reboot now, that it’s counting also with us being in the past….vigilantism during the dawn of quirks and all….Enyo’s still gonna be played but not the same as before

Character for an MHA/BNHA-themed DND campaign.
Their name is Hapi (after the nonbinary god of the flooding Nile), and their quirk is the plagues of Egypt, but they can only use them in order and can't really control them yet.
Don't let them get to the 10th plague.

Headcanon that Shigaraki loves rpgs and plays DnD with the League of Villains, and if they skip a session he threatens to dust their asses. The seriousness he takes DnD night with is so much that it’s what they did the first night Bakugo was held captive with them. They put off talking to him so they wouldn’t miss that week’s session (they probably offered for Bakugo to play too)
Shigaraki probably also metagames so Kurogiri, who DMs, has two screens to ward him off

How I Would Turn David Shield From My Hero Academia Into A Masks A New Generation Character
This is what happens when I’m fixating on Two Heroes, haven’t been able to play Masks in months, and am desperately trying to avoid doing homework
This is how I would make a character in masks a new generation based off of David Shield
Playbook: The Brain
For the ability, out of the options select hi-tech vehicle and design it based off of the vehicle he is shown operating in the opening scenes of the Two Heroes movie
For the initial three moves they are all generic enough, especially considering how little we actually know about David Shield, that I think you could start with any combo but I personally would start with:
Above The Fray (if you have influence over your teams battle leader you can provide tactical input to add Team to the pool)- I think this one fits well with how Shield is a sidekick to All Might rather than like an independent hero
Scientific Insight (you have a field that is your specialty and can ask follow up questions in asses the situation when related to that field)- I’d take this and for the specialty pick biotechnology/power biology or something related to that (talk to your gm) because of his research regarding quirks in the movie, as well as his tech that interacts with quirks
Always Prepared (when you have time to restock supplies you gain two gadgets you can spend to make a small invention by unleashing your powers)- I mostly pick this one because I feel like it just helps for a well rounded character to play but I also think it fits because of David Shields focus on hero support tech
When it comes to the Shame, I have two ideas depending on how closely you want to base it off of him
For a closer match, select Catastrophic Weapon as the shame, and use the quirk enhancer he made in Two Heroes to help All Might that has fallen into villains hands (talk to your gm)
For something farther but still fun, use the same device and give your character a friend who is losing their power and accepts this device when offered for them, but something goes horribly wrong and it corrupts/takes over the friend and causes them to basically go haywire, and make the option Altered Former Ally
As you level up you’ll take the rest of the moves from your playbook, do that in whatever order is natural for your campaign, but you can also get a Sanctuary from the Doomed playbook and Drives from the Beacon playbook so here is how I would go about that
For Drives many of them could fit, and again pick whatever is best for your campaign, but what I would select are
Help a teammate when they most need you- plays off of how he wanted to help all might with that device
Even the respect of a hero you admire- with how much David looks up to all might even so long after they’ve been together I think this would be fitting
Get a new hero name- help cement himself as a hero rather than tech support
Less team successfully in battle- with him being tech support or sidekick so often, this would be good to have him step into that leader role
For the Sanctuary I would pick his lab, whether it is isolated somewhere like I-Island or not is up to you and your gm
For the three features I would pick useful tools, a powerful computer, and healing equipment, all things I think would make sense to find in the lab of someone in his position
So that’s how I would do it, I’d love to hear what yall think
Do you agree? Disagree? Something you would do differently? Would you play a character like this?

Fake Screenshot Attempt Time!
POV: You're Fumetsu, a UA first-year at the Summer Training Camp, too exhausted and weak to stop yourself being hauled back through this suffocating portal. Your best friend is fast approaching, screaming your name before the howls dissolve into curses and threats directed at your abductors, leaping forward to catch you, just out of reach...
but she's not done yet.
Predictions/Wish-list scene to come in my siblings/friends' MHA-based TTRPG campaign. These are NPCs, but the DM is pretty heavily invested in these two and their dynamic lately. >v< The PCs have plans of their own of course, but it feels less okay to try to manifest those for some reason. @v@;

It strikes me that part of the reason why "what if magic HURT YOU TO USE (head exploding gif)" takes annoy me is that. That was already part of the modern fantasy genre going to jolkein rolkien rolkien tolkein. Like. That was. A huge part of the trilogy, yeah? Frodo's nigh incapacitated by the ring for most of the journey. In constant pain. Everyone else knowing that he had the hardest task.
And there's so many takes about deciding you're annoyed at dnd healing being a matter of game resource management rather than breaking your own bones like deku in the beginning of mha that i can take now. as i have in fact. Tried and failed to portray that in a transformative way. And found that it does not gel with actual productive storytelling if you aren't actually making it a central theme of the story. I haven't gotten into dungeon meshi but as far as i can tell. That healing magic is so taxing for the reciever that you need to have immense calorie intake (which costs money) is one of the primary elements in the story. There's no need to force it into your ttrpg if it doesn't synergize, and you just don't want to be conventional and stupid like those dumb jock dnd players addicted to nat 20s.
There's also. The x-men effect. Which is to say. When you add (magic) powers to the situation. It can muddy the themes. The x-men are a metaphor for marginalized people but they're also living weapons so their persecution has textual justification. But also the power fantasy gets saccharine with no element of being grounded, and so the persecution is necessary for the reader to connect. But if the mutants all had dinky little powers or small cosmetic differences and the story was about that same level of persection, it would be about all that pain these people were feeling without it being anything more than a weirdly removed one-to-one metaphor for irl bigotry. And at that point. Very much not a superhero story.
Which is sort of how i feel about the genre twist take economy. If i wanted magic to be such a close metaphor for chronic pain or the adhd hyperfocus/burnout cycle that it literally is that with the occasional plot device. I personally would probably just go read literary fiction or contemporary romance with disabled protagonists already. I dont need a witch hat thrown on top. Especially if i go to a fantasy story for immersive worldbuilding and the interplay of power at a scale that's wide enough to feel epic but defined enough to be conceivable, solvable and satisfying. And you're pitching me a story about a contest of who can work through a migraine bestest of all.

I find your tagging system fascinating /pos would you care to elaborate on/explain it?
Oh well tbh its mostly just for my own refrence, the majority are inspiration stuff for various ttrpg games id like to run some day. This'll probably ruin the mystique, but here's some of the most common ones-
Dungeonpunk- more of an aesthetic or vibe, for the sort of stuff i think would be neat to see in a western fantasy style game like DnD. Sort of a mix of eastern artist's take on the genre, stuff like fromsoft games or old fantasy anime and rpgs, plus that sort of casually anachronistic vibe. Ive described the energy as being like, dungeon crawling with a sword and shield, but while also wearing a hoodie and sneakers. Saved for inspiration not just for dnd, but other ttrpgs like Fellowship, Dungeon Bitches and more.
Motw- Monster of the Week, a ttrpg you may be familiar with based on urban fantasy mystery series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Supernatural. Two of my other tags, Curiosity and Pierce Cove, are for different campaign ideas ive got. Curiosity is set in a small tourist trap town of the same name in the middle of the Nevada desert, and takes inspiration from stuff like Resident Evil, The X-Files, and the SCP Foundation. Pierce Cove is set in a dying east coast town beset by mysterious fog and missing persons, inspired by Stephen King's It, Silent Hill and The Magnus Archives
GBG- Ghoul-B-Gone, a Ghostbusters-pastiche short story i wrote a while back and still consider expanding on
Apocalypse World- inspiration for a campaign of the post-apocalyptic ttrpg of the same name. My particular idea is for a world plagued by creeping, ever expanding masses of meat and flesh, taking inspiration from TWD, Mad Max, Annihilation, and Dogscape
Strain- personal project, sort of a biopunk bodyhorror version of shonen battle anime like One Piece or MHA
Tendies- inspiration for a game of Tendencies: Spirits and Glamour, a ttrpg created by a friend meant to emulate battle anime like those mentioned above, but especially Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Also my de-facto fashion tag.
Masks- for teen superhero ttrpg Masks: The Next Generation. Also a general purpose superhero universe and worldbuilding inspo tag
Lancer- Started out as a tag for the mech ttrpg Lancer, but became a general purpose mech, robot, spaceship and cyberpunk tag.
WoD- World of Darkness, well-known urban fantasy ttrpg brand. Im more compelled by the worldbuilding than anything else, and while vampires and werewolves are what the setting is more famous for, im mostly interested in Changeling the Lost and Promethean the Created, as well as the fan games Genius the Transgression and Leviathan the Tempest.
Mons- a general category for funny monster befriending and catching, digimon and pokemon esque stuff. I put stuff here that inspires my ideas for two radically different games, Animon and Monsters And Other Childish Things, so the tone might rapidly oscillate
Voidheart- inspo for Persona-inspired ttrpg Voidheart Symphony. Debated creating a tag for this one for a while, as i used to just fold it into other tags like Motw, Tendies and Dungeonpunk
Slasher- honestly just a tag for slashers, im just kinda intrigued by the idea of them as a monster archetype in the same vein as vampires and werewolves and such
I may have missed some, or left out the most self explanatory ones. Hope that clears stuff up, sorry if it was a long and unfulfilling read!

Some Things Change
Tumblr media
NCPD Inspector Midoriya and MaxTac Agent Katsuki Bakugou have a tiff.
TW: Cyberpunk 2077 SPOILERS, Violence, Gore, Angst, Blood, Crude humor, Crude language, some suggestive dialogue If you have played the TTRPG or CDPR Game then you know what to expect. Cyberpunk RPG specific terminology, Established Relationship, Mentions of offspring. INPUT READER IS A BLACK AFAB-GENDERFLUID PERSON! MINORS DO NOT INTERACT! PERMISSION TO READ, REPOST OR TRANSLATE DENIED! ALL MHA/BNHA CHARS ARE GROWN ASS ADULTS
Izuku Midoriya sat at his desk. The mods on his optics rapidly scanning documents and reviewing cases that were on his docket or needed to be closed out. Nothing important was coming over the blotter so he had no reason to move from his desk. He was tired, having been here for the past, what? He didn’t even recall how long it had been. At least two days. There had been an uptick in cyberpsycho cases and black-market snuff bd selling that had prevented his going home. Something he desperately needed. Along with a shower and a meal.
He was getting neither anytime soon. Well, not at home. Stretching he stood up and made his way to the communal locker rooms. His back was far more sore than he expected. He enters the locker room, heads to his locker, strips, and grabs his shower supplies. Doing one last stretch then heading into the adjacent showers. He sets his stuff down on a bench closest to his favorite showerhead then steps into the glassed-off shower. Slapping the button for hot he stands under and shivers as he is blasted with the ice-cold waters of hell. Groaning he swears to himself, closing his eyes, and quietly begs the powers that be to not give him any more shit. He just wants to relax for 30 minutes.
“They reversed the connections the other day. Cold is hot, nerd.” a gruff, annoyed voice tells him. Izuku hisses audibly then slams the cold button. “Thanks, Kacchan.” he says quietly as he lets the much warmer water slip down his mostly ‘ganic form. A responding grunt is heard followed by the sound of the showerhead next to him turning on. “Whatever.” is the only thing said back to him and the owner of the voice goes back to ignoring his presence.
The soaked, green-haired man internally berates himself. He should have known this information! He had just read it in a department report. Rubbing his face harshly he opens his eyes, shakes his head then stares up at the ceiling. His own failure to remember such a basic detail had only served to irritate the only occupant of the room. Someone he desperately wanted to reconnect with.
Trying to be discreet and casual the lightly freckled man steals a glance over at the other occupant. Next to him stood a bored and irritated-looking Kacchan. Katsuki Bakugou. His former childhood best friend turned Rockerboy turned MaxTac agent. The circumstances concerning his employment being Izuku’s fault. Something he doesn’t think the former Rocker will ever forgive.
Had Midoriya not overstepped and summoned Kaccha-Bakugou's input all those years ago he wouldn’t be here standing next to him today. The MaxTac member wasn’t mad he had lived. No, he had even expressed his thanks for it. He was furious Izuku had put the man’s input in danger by summoning them to the scene of Bakugou’s Cyberpyschosis. Exposing them to the ugliest and most insecure parts of him and potentially killing them leaving their twins without parents. Ever since then the relationship between the inspector and the MaxTac member has been hostile on good days and catastrophic on bad ones. With Katsuki absolutely refusing to willingly work with or around Midoriya. Which makes the current situation odd now that the green-haired man thought about it.
“Stop staring nerd. You trying to make a BD reel to sell or save for your private collection?” the Ashen blonde sneers and he continues to scrub his body down. Midoriya sighs and averts his eyes. “No, Kacchan. Just making mental notes. Usually, you want nothing to do with me. I am just surprised that you are willingly standing next to me right now and engaged me in conversation not once but twice now.” The words tumble out of his mouth before he can stop them. Alarm shooting up his spine. Reflexively he steps off to the side and looks over at his former best friend waiting for the angry berating he is sure to receive.
But none came.
Only a monotone “Hnnnn.” along with more squishy noises as Bakugou relathers up his loofah and begins to rub himself down. Not content with a once-over. The man had always been obsessively hygienic. “Yeah, I got something to tell ya.” the blonde says flatly. His nose scrunched up in annoyance. Still not looking over at Midoriya. Stretching out his flesh-toned chrome arm, Katsuki lathers it up then moves on to the next one. “My input wanted to me to relay that the twins have their birthday this weekend and they want you there. The twins too,” he growls out.
Izuku observes the eyebrow twitching above sanguine-colored eyes. Saying those words must have been torture for the other man. “Oh, I see. Yeah, I’ll be there. I wouldn’t miss it for the world. I’ve grown fond of them over the years.” Midoriya says nervously. Rubbing at the back of his head. It wasn’t a lie. He really was fond of the kiddos. How the perpetually scowling man next to him had managed to get such an amazing family was beyond him. He was happy for them and that they still had a chance at family. Even if the blonde did harbor an intense as fuck grudge against him.
“Yeah, I figured you would say that. I’ll send you a list of what they like currently. We are planning on taking them out into the badlands and doing some fuck shit. Got a new grenade launcher they might enjoy using.” The blonde chuckles, an honest-to-goodness content and peaceful smile making a rare appearance on his face. “I can’t wait to see their faces. What about you nerd? You got anyone to go home to?”
The abrupt shift to the green-haired man’s personal life has said man looking away quickly and staring down at his feet. “Ah, no. Not just yet. I don’t think we are there yet.” he mumbles out. Not liking the focus being on himself. He can feel the blonde’s sneer and he regrets engaging the other man in conversation. “Heh, you don’t say. Must suck to suck. It’s been a few months now, hasn’t it? Still haven’t managed to convince her to do anything more than a coffee date. Huh, nerd?” Bakugou’s words dig into the warm, squishy hidden interior that Midoriya keeps hidden away.
“I don’t want to rush anything. Not everyone can rush headlong into a relationship without a care in the world like you.” Izuku replies coldly. Finished with his own shower, he slams the cold-water button again, steps out, and begins to dry off. The shut-off of the shower head next to him lets him know that unfortunately this conversation isn’t done and Katsuki intends to have the last word.
“What the fuck does that mean, Midoriya?” the overly aggressive blonde follows behind and grabs the other man’s arm once he is within reach. “Answer me!” he demands. Izuku jerks his arm out of the other’s grasp, picks up a towel, and begins to dry himself off. “Just that. That is how the two of you got together. You and your input-” he doesn’t get to finish his sentence as a chromed fist connects with his very much so organic jaw. Midoriya crashes back and trips over the bench falling to the floor with a rough “Mmmfph”. No time to recover as the furious MaxTac agent is now sitting on top of him all but foaming at the mouth.
“Say that to my face again!” a furious Bakugou pulls Izuku up by the hair, bringing them nose to nose. “I dare you!” the enraged man snarls out. Midoriya narrows his eyes as a hand reaches behind his head to remove the chokehold that Katsuki has on his hair. “Back off Kacchan. Take your immunoblockers before you lose control again,” he warns the MaxTac agent. Calm, cool, and collected. Midoriya was pissed as well but it wouldn’t do anyone any favors if he gave into his rage like the blonde pinning him down was.
Abruptly the blonde releases him completely. Red eyes bore into his skull with hatred as they both stand up. “You’re such a fucking prick, Izuku,” Katsuki says low and cold. “Not everything is an attack against you. Not my fault you needed someone to push you a bit to just ask her out on a real date instead of pussy footing around like a bitch.” The blonde grabs his towel and storms off leaving Midoriya alone with his thoughts.
Replaying the conversation in his head he realizes that Katsuki had been trying to help in his own way. Bakugou had always been abrasive but when he looks back at the expression on the blonde’s face and pairs them with the words, he realizes that he assumed that the other was sneering at him. He never saw it. In fact, the last expression he saw before pure rage was bliss on the man’s face. It was very possible that he had projected his own insecurities onto his childhood bestie and things had spiraled from there.
Internally he berates himself for being such an asshole. “I really need to take some time off. I wouldn’t have done that if I had been taking care of myself,” he complains quietly in the empty room. “Yeah, that's true. You look like shit, Izuku. Go rest. Tell Ochako you are feelin’ under the weather and she’ll show up at your flat with something to help you feel better.” Midoriya’s head whips up to see a mostly dressed Bakugou standing in front of him holding up the green-haired man’s shirt. “Oh, yes! I’ll do that. Thanks, Kacchan.” taking the shirt gingerly, the detective casually shrugs it on. He is opening his mouth to apologize when he is cut off.
“Don’t. Just don’t. I get it. You are overworked and got a lot on your mind. Take the time off and refresh. You look like shit and your attitude matches. Make sure you show up at the twins’ birthday party or I’ll end you.” Katsuki says casually as he places his own shirt on and begins to lace up his boots. A leather biker jacket with his former band's logo emblazoned on it.
“Thanks, Kacchan. I mean it. You won’t let me apologize so I won’t but at least let me say thank you.” he pulls on his boxers, joggers, socks, and shoes before the other man responds. “Yeah, yeah. Whatever. It’s what choombs to for each other. I still hold a grudge against you for dragging them into that bloodbath I started but....we are still choombs. Doesn’t mean I wanna see your fuckin’ puppy dog eyes every time I need to get the job done though.” Bakugou grabs his jacket and puts it on. Leaving before Midoriya can say anything. A middle finger his farewell before he exits the room leaving the detective alone and chuckling to himself.
“Some things never change,” Izuku tells himself mentally. A notification flashes across his optics. Militech and Ochako. Ochako is asking if he is ok. Someone heard the commotion in the showers and she was worried something bad had gone down. He sends her a reassuring reply and asks if she wants to come over for dinner and a movie. Maybe snuggle a bit. Watch a brain dance. The warm fuzzies entering and spreading through his chest at the thought of holding her in his arms.
He opens the Militech email and his blood turns to ice.
“Detective, it seems you and I share a mutual interest. I would like to meet with you to discuss.”
It’s short and sweet. Accompanied by a photo of none other than Katsuki Bakugou. Looking pissed off as ever holding his input with another woman standing behind him looking curiously over them both. This picture was taken the other day at the hostage situation down at Corpo Plaza in the Arasaka building. He scrolls down to see who the sender was. Sanemi Shinazugawa.
Midoriya swears his optics must be fucky or something because there is no way either of them should have attracted the attention of this man. Yet the message said otherwise. Inhaling deeply, he replies back.
“That can be arranged. I have prior engagements this upcoming weekend. You can find me in my office on Monday.” That should suffice. Or at least the inspector hopes it does. He sends out his replies and stares up at the ceiling.
Some things never change but sometimes things do. For better or worse.
Fin.

I really like that the Campaign 3 intros have been featuring the cast. I love the Mighty Nein intro and would greatly enjoy an animation featuring Bell’s Hells, but imo the cast-centric opening celebrates that Critical Role is a show featuring people playing what-if with their own OC’s and sharing the resulting story. It’s just as much about the cast themselves as it is their characters.
Imo, people watch TTRPGs not just for the story but also for the cast shenanigans and anticipation of what the person behind a character is gonna do next. And due to the nature of ttrpg’s, the cast is just as much on the forefront of viewers’ minds as the characters are as the story progresses. Like when Jester had that famous cupcake moment, it was awesome in-‘verse, but it was Laura Bailey’s quick thinking that we were all in awe of.
Compare that to geeking out about epic unexpected moments in say The Walking Dead or My Hero Academia. In my experience, when a cool scene happened in those shows, the fandom dialogue leaned a lot more towards “CharacterA is so smart in how they plan ahead!” Or “CharacterB’s killing blow was so epic.” I’m not saying fans of those shows don’t praise the writers when cool scenes happen, but when reacting to those scenes, fandom’s initial focus seems to be drawn more to within the story and less to behind the scenes if that makes sense.
In TTRPGs, the player and character are so wrapped up with each other that it’s hard not to react to a character moment without also thinking about the actor (and GM if applicable).
Like with a typical story-driven show like GoT or MHA, the story in a ttrpg show is about the characters, but with ttrpg streams, at the heart is also the cast themselves, and I feel like the new intro really expresses that!
