Hello! I made myself sad thinking about GerryMichael and Les Mis!

Spell of "fuck you, you're getting your blorbos tragedied!" If this gets traction I shall give myself psychic damage and write a ficlet on it.

Basically, what if the song A Little Fall of Rain in a very very recently post-Sannikov.

They haven't told each other anything yet. Been pinning for years, but Gerry's too focused on the whole Leitner thing so Michael stays quiet. Gerry, in turn, thinks Michael probably isn't interested in "Gertrude's rough agent" and would prefer someone less "weird/dangerous". (They are both plain stupid, your honour <3)

Sannikov happens. But Gerry gets called by Gertrude as backup and arrives about a day later and waits for Gertrude to call him

He doesn't go into the island, but there's the whole ruckus of the Ritual crumbling, so he takes it as a sign to go and help out.

When he gets there everything is quiet. Snow falls again and the island rumbles very gently. Gertrude has left already, probably took an alternate route to avoid being followed. In the rubble is Michael, being torn apart and meshed from the inside. But the ritual is over, Gerry cannot see what Michael is seeing as his identity gets mangled in his subconscious.

Gerry crouches to try and help Michael up, to no avail. So he just sits with him on the snow and listens to him rambling, and mutters back, trying to make those last minutes any less painful, even if it's just a soothing illusion for both their sakes.

Cue "Little Fall of Rain"

He stays until Michael stops breathing, stops spasming. Keeps a few minutes of silence. But eventually walks away.

The ship is waiting, and with time he's forced himself to learn to let go when people die. He never got to say anything, so the connection was not mutual (he thinks, at least), and thus it means Michael was just talking under the delirium of death, and his words were probably not meant as a confession. It hurts, but Gerry prefers to think Michael didn't confess back, that only he (Gerry) did it as a last ditch effort and it was null as soon as it was over.
