you’d been in Liyue at the time, and out of everyone, the first you could see believed you were a mortal on Earth before (and not ruling it 💀) was Ganyu.

She’d looked shocked, like the others, but you could quickly see her get more and mire visibly twitchy and excited as you explained further

(rlly unlike the just,, utter confusion on Xiao’s, Zhongli’s, Shenhe’s, and Cloud Retainer’s faces, so convinced of your divinity there’s no way you could be human- even just acting like one-)

but you did, and Ganyu loved it.

you actually didn’t interact much for the first month you were stuck in a gacha video game (the other alloegenes, gods, adepti, and citizens, including international, pulling you around for opinions on this and that)

But one night you couldn’t sleep (the Qixing provided amble spacious housing in a temple already apparently dedicated to you, one you’d never seen in game)

It’d been… a rough day.

Everywhere you went, miscommunications followed, and you still didn’t really know how to mask properly around these just- well, since they were real, aliens

sure, they mimicked stuff about humans, but not the people/culture you’d mostly been around, (and the adepti had their own code of behavior, which was so complex you’re sure they should’ve made an actual social behavior manual by now)

but you just couldn’t escape the endless cycle, not only that, but your executive function had apparently forgotten to keep up with some important appointments or otherwise things you had needed to get done earlier, so you were scrambling to send a late letter to Fontaine inventors who needed to get the project started in 3 days, which is how long the letter takes to get there, oh gods, and you needed to check on Inazuma, apparently Seirai island is getting lightningy again and the Raiden Shogun wants you in person as soon as possible to aid her with it, but you need to attend a Knights of Favonius meeting in 2 days-

Yeah. You were stressed, and honestly? crumbling under the pressure.

So you’d snuck out of your rooms (dodging the patrolling guards) and went to the office of the one person who knew who’d understand

Ganyu. Scribbling and mumbling in her office to herself, late into the night

She’d jumped at you slipping in without knocking (avoid the Milieth at all costs, even tho ur literally god and you’ve been told you can do whatever you want mostly)

and knocked a whooooollleee stack of papers to the floor, scattering it everywhere 😭

you’d scrambled to start picking them up,, but then she stops you frantically saying “No, no, it’s okay, it’s not a big deal I promise, there’s no need to cry over these silly papers, heaven-sent!”

it’d just been one more thing you’d messed up on top of all of today (and tbh this whole month whirlwind of becoming some kind of god of the continent)

and Ganyu was, Ganyu <3

she was sweet and kind and so overwhelmingly helpful, how could you make a mess of her life too-

you’re just sitting on the floor now, but you startle when she gently holds your upper arms, calling your name very softly, so soft if she wasn’t saying you actual name you’d think she was talking to something else, something precious to her

the qilin guides you up, easily supporting your weight, she directs you to her couch, and manuvers you into laying your head across her plush thighs, the half-adepti’s pants aren’t as skin-tight like in-game, they’re actually the cosiest fabric you’ve ever laid on (or maybe that’s just a combination of your fragileness and her thick thighs)

she rubs your shoulder and back, offering a tissue (when did she get that-)

and that’s when you know you’ve chosen your first friend in Teyvat perfectly :)

you sneak out nearly every night for those first few months in Liyue (not including travel, which you tried to limit or you’d both make an excuse why she needed to come with lol)

just to sneak into her office, and you’d nearly cried a second time on her when she offered some notes about both standard human and adepti behaviors (after all, she’s had to study them both to fit into both)

Ganyu learns to do your hair and you do hers 🥺 she can’t bring herself to trust anyone to cut her hair but you, and you always try to do styles that don’t get in her way <3

like buns with a braid wrapped around it, or two space buns (Keqing didn’t say anything but Ganyu gossiped to you about how she could see a little smile on her face whenever she ran into Ganyu that week, obviously cutely thinking how they matched)

While of course the first thing Ganyu did was propose to help you schedule/manage your time so you wouldn’t have to rely on your non-existent executive function-

you’d also made sure to literally plop ur chin over her shoulder to make sure you saw “break” AT LEAST once a day, now that she was incorporating herself a little into ur schedule too (Ganyu fought tooth and nail to get rid of that lunch-break, but then you threatened to also not eat, and she caved so fast LMAO)

(bc she’s a die-hard workaholic ofc she wants this, after you heard abt her schedule in-game you’d thought it was lucky she was not fully human or she would’ve dropped dead, but now even moreso watching that horror in real time 💀)

which!! she!! is so!! (at this point you usually just squeeze her round cheeks a little too hard before then wrapping your arms as far as they can go around her torso and squeezing even harder-)

After a couple of “your trauma 🤝 my trauma” nights, she honestly understood really well where your limits were so to speak, what you could and simply couldn’t do

and was the first one willing to explain to people you have executive dysfunction (and was quick to cut off any “just try harder/pull yourself up by your bootstraps/just believe in yourself” nonsense when if came to your disabilities, even tho those were few and far between moments if any)

afterall, people had expected the same from her, and she frequently fell into that thinking herself (it also didn’t help that as you tried to give her a normal schedule at first, which benefitted her human side more, it felt like the Qixing was stumbling to keep up with the supernatural workload now being distributed)

Ganyu knew it had been your influence originally that helped her when she’d had her workload lightened/then followed by the traveler when she ran off

(and regardless of the truth too, when you’d finally gotten the courage to tell her how you actually interacted with Teyvat, unable to steer actions from what the plot dictated)

she’d still attributed it to you, (”well, you could’ve always just picked up your things and left, yes? But even if it was ‘pre-planned’ like you say, you still wanted to follow through and were… ahem, h-happy for m-me, right?” you’d smacked right into her you stimmed so relieved)

You didn’t exactly know how to explain it, bc everyone was really accepting,

from citizens to nobles, officials and guards, to vision-users, gods and other supernatural beings that inhabited Teyvat

no one judged you for unmasking/stimming, but in that way that meant they didn’t really understand what was different about you, they just knew you were and they’d still decided to treat you with the same adoration anyway

but Ganyu,

she treated you the same but knew what stims you did when you were happy or excited, what ones comforted you, what your latest verbal stims were, and what your “classics” were (u never had to tell her, she just learned them quick and all on her own, bless this woman 🛐 )

Ganyu understood all the good and all the bad and saw you unmasked and still laughed so hard at your jokes she fell into your side and always asked another question about your hyperfixations/interests

you’d quickly realized there were a lot of neurodivergent overlaps between stuff Ganyu did and what you did

(whether or not she herself was, you just assumed yes based on what you researched, but there wasn’t any official testing in teyvat)

it makes more sense to you after applying the neurospicy filter to all her actions why she’s so obsessed with work (she hyperfixates on certain projects the Qixing has going, and has a long-term passive fixation on scheduling/stationary/related office work stuff)

but this also meant you understood why she was always asking for more about you, your mortal world, your time here, where you wanted to go in teyvat, what you wanted to do, how’d you feel when the game did this to someone, what about-?

needless to say you couldn’t (and didn’t have to 🥲) contain your stims at knowing you became a slight hyperfixation for her

she got all embarassed and blushy about it!!! <333😩 (and did that cute thing where she just kinda sways in place holding her hands together when bashful or nervous ✨💔✨)

unrelated to above, but your favorite thing (besides sightseeing or eating at yet another new restaurant in liyue) to do together is go do something childish

like playing children’s games (hopscotch, or hill sliding in ganyus case) from both ur childhoods

ok last unrelated headcanon i promise,

Ganyu wasn’t overly affectionate before, honestly she was always going too fast to stop for those kind of casual touches (and when was there time in her old scedule)

but after a month of getting comfortable around each other, she subconciously gets up from her desk (mid-reading a file/carrying it with her lmao)

and sits on her office couch, making room for you to lay on her (and she is the perfect pillow)

Amongst all the men of Genshin Impact, Venti is the only one who is truly worthy to be bestowed with the title of "husbando material". Despite my abillity to acknowledge the charm that is offered by sugardaddies such as Zhongli and edgelords such as Xiao, none can even dream of reaching the feet of such pefection that Venti can offer as a husbando.

However, unfortunantely, large amounts of the Genshin community, as well as countless other weaboo culture related media communities, have shown to genuinely think with all of their hearts that being a husbando is a matter of being hot, tall, cool looking, deep voiced and somewhat muscular.

Such a mundane oblivion easily barrages these people from acquiring a proper grasp of the glorious husbando potential kindly handed to us by Mihoyo themselves. At this point, said individuals' sanity level is undoubtedly worrisome, as they have seen pronouncing countless blasphemies, such as [TRIGGER WARNING] "I don't really think Venti counts as a husbando. he's just cutesy, not hot".

(i beg you, my dear reader, a thousand forgiveness for having to witness such an undescribably horrid sentence. My sole intention with this was to showcase how one's perception of the meaning of "husbando" can get absurdely twisted.).

However, the inferior minded ones shall not be blamed, as they never chose to carry such lamentable curse. Currently, there are no known methods for a successfull salvation of the souls of our poor fellow human beings from the claws of their own mediocre delusions.

However, if each single individual raised under the world we call ours was given the chance to reach what is currently considered an ascended cultural level, such vast knownleadge would be bound to instantly lower itself to being as ordinary as a 3 star weapon pull, wouldn't it?

Hello! I stumbled upon your blog (I dunno still pretty new to tumblr despite being here for years. I don't interact much >_<) while gobbling up the Avenstelle buffet here in tumblr <3.

Anyways. I read the anons asks and your response and omygosh…I've never felt such a relief to find people who shares the same sentiments T_T. Especially the ones with Kaveh and Alhaitham? Gosh. I've never felt so validated about my feelings. Let me get started with Alhaitham.

Okay so in gacha games, (wuwa, hsr, gi, ak, r1999, etc.), I'm a husbando collector. I love collecting the men because they're hot and my eyes love them lol. So…essentially, I also pulled for Alhaitham. I loved him so much, like his personality, his design…I'm smitten. But after how I am bombarded with haikaveh shipping almost every socmed I go, twt mostly, I began to loathe it. Like, I don't really care about shipping. The shipping I only liked is Avenstelle in hsr, yet the incessant shoving of Haikaveh as canon to my face, even though they are not really canonized, just turned me off with Alhaitham, and subsequently, Kaveh as well even though I wanna love him too :(.

It makes me sad that the fandom pushes the only "correct way" to see this characters. How about us, who just wants to have some pixel husbandos for ourselves (lol sorry for the self insert). Kaveh also looks nice and he seems nice and I wanna love him too seeing as we are of the same profession (I'm an architecture student, hopefully passing our thesis and graduating next year!). I am also still on a mission of finding his mom in Fontaine rn (still waiting, hoyo, still waiting…)

Anyways, I am truly glad to see the same sentiments and knowing that I am not alone in noticing this toxicity happening in the fandom coz, what happened to platonic relationships? I dunno, but I really wanna see a heartmelting one and not a shipping one. Aaa I rambled too much haven't I? I'm nervous since this is my first asks. Hello 🌊 anon! Thank you for working up the courage and taking the time to write to me. It made me so happy to read that my discussions with other anons made you feel safe. You are definitely not alone in feeling ostracized by the loud portion of fandom. And oh my gosh, you're an architecture student?! That's so cool! Good luck on passing your thesis!

I completely relate to your feeling of losing the love you had for a character due to their popular ship. I'm a Kaveh girlie, but I also like Alhaitham quite a lot since he's a very interesting and relatable character. Unfortunately, the prominence of haikaveh on every social media I visit, and the obnoxious claims of shippers that they're undoubtedly canon, tainted my view of him. I want to love Haitham, but some days it can be hard because seeing him triggers some negative feelings, though I try to push them down. I didn't care for the ship originally, but the behaviours of it's shippers really ruined my perception of it and BL as a whole.

It's only natural you feel that way since so much of the fandom looks down on self-shipping and gatekeeps characters from us. The way Mihoyo handles Haitham and Kaveh in particular doesn't help the situation for yumejoshi, which makes it feel worse.

The only way I find I can have fun is to block and mute all accounts who support the ships I don't like, and peacefully enjoy the content I like. Don't look at comments or the character tags for the sake of your mental health. It sucks that you have to restrict yourself so heavily, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to keep yourself happy.

If you want to find more people with similar sentiments, feel free to join my discord group! There are lots of people who share your views (and who love Alhaitham), and we also have discussions about fandom and characters, and share fanart and fics. It's a bit like a support group for those of us terrorized by the toxicity of fandom. If you don't want to join, that's perfectly fine. No pressure.

Honestly I wasn't sure if or when I'd ever get into fanfic writing. I've had some ideas for Honkai Impact and Star Rail rattling in my head for months now, but never enough inspiration to just pull the trigger and put words on the page. I guess I have to thank Mihoyo for giving me that extra bit of motivation by releasing such a moving story with Firefly in the 2.0 update for Star Rail. I'll be sure to keep posting more in the days and weeks to come, because I really want to share more and more of what I can write.

The Sumeru character leaks (aside from Collei) have me both dissapointed but not surprised. Mihoyo/Hoyoverse is adhearing to the people who spend the most money on the game, thereby listening to their demands (and unfortunately racism is very prevalant among those spaces). I (along with many others) saw this issue coming from a mile away because all the scholars we had seen coming from Sumeru are white/very light skinned.

And it's believable that those defending the release of mostly pale people from Sumeru aren't conscious of their own colourism. 'Not everyone from the areas Sumeru is based on are black, I know, i'm from there/I am that!' Although that is true, one quick search shows that your demographics include quite ALOT of people with skin darker than what has been shown so far. This sounds like the minority discussion so many white dominated majority are willing to make fun of.

Have you not gone to a market or any other public area in your countries? You would be lying if you said there wasn't at least a few people that didn't consciously stay indoors to prevent their skin from tanning (Not that tanning is the only way for skin to be dark). Heck, there are so many white and asian people from their respected dominated countries with skin colour darker that what is shown. Where is their representation?

"Don't assume everyone will be like that just because of the characters released." It's not an assumption pulled from thin air, it's a noticeable, even obvious, trend.

"It's just a game, why should you care? Go play something else if you don't like it." If everyone did that when a issue got rough then there will eventually be no other option. Would you be alright if the situation like Xinyan in Liyue was reversed in Sumeru? If we're going based on minority then when Natlan comes there should only be one white person to make it fair. (Although that's already doubtful)

Can I ask what's wrong with Because of You? I really enjoyed it, personally. Might not have had the same impact as Everlasting Flames but I still felt emotional about Elysia talking with Eden and Mobius, and how beautiful Ellie was. If I had to have a gripe, it's that there were too many characters involved so they didn't get enough of a spotlight.

I already went over my feelings a month ago, and playing the chapter didn’t really change them too much.

Even with some proper goodbyes just before it just isn’t what I wanted it to be. Thematically it’s like a step backwards from Shattered Samsara, and it feels contrived to me because I know they wrote the arc this way specifically because they couldn’t keep the sims around to take up narrative space. Like… Kevin Killer 666 is a plot device. It didn’t have to be set up to destroy all of ER. They could have done a range of other things, maybe hard resetting it to their very first save 50 000 years ago so it’s still sad but they’re still alive or whatever, they just made it this way because they couldn’t keep the sims around. This kind of breaks the inevitable tragedy aspect for me— it wasn’t.

The writers forced it to be that way, and to force their point home they made HoC an audience surrogate with the “OOC illusion where they’re alive and happy” gimmick. It just feels like a slap in the face, haha, you can’t keep them alive and happy no matter what! No matter what you do it’s fake!!!!

Yes, I am disappointed. No, saying goodbye properly isn’t helping too much. Band-aids no matter how gay don’t sew a wound shut. And again, it’s contrived, so it doesn’t feel like it is actually the only way for this to end, it just feels like giving up. Kiana pulled a miracle for Hua but Mei just lets them go??? Talk about leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

I also really, really hate it when characters walk to their deaths with a smile. It’s kind of triggering for me.

TLDR: No matter what they say or how many sunset group shots they draw it’s never going to be an animation I’m happy about, but due to how contrived they made the annihilation of ER it’s not inevitably tragic enough for me to feel catharsis either, so I’m just stuck in between feeling terrible about it.

“Love, no one should witness our little problems. Well, no one alive that is.” Of course you wouldn’t want to put innocent people's lives at stake. You never dared to act out when you two are in public, and no one would bat an eye if a Fatui had taken a lover. 

You had taken an emotionless approach towards him. If Childe wants a kiss on the cheek, you’ll give him a quick light peck. If he wants breakfast, you’ll go make some pancakes with the topping he likes. Luckily, Childe had not done anything too extreme yet. If cuddling to sleep does not count as extreme that is. The only time you slipped up is when he suddenly hugs you from behind when you’re cooking.  

You thought maybe, just maybe, by being as boring and dull as you could, this bastard might just get tired of you and let you go. Childe only loves the fun of it right? Or maybe it could lower his guard.

Oh, how naive you are. You should have known better than to underestimate a Fatui harbinger. See, this is exactly why he needs to keep you around. Yes, unfortunately for you, Childe loves you, so very much. Speaking to him with a monotone voice isn’t going to alter that fact.

You have been devoid of emotions as of late. While Childe does appreciate fewer screams for the sake of his eardrums, this schemer can sense you are up to something. Perhaps this is the peace before your “storm”(he thought of it more like a drizzle)

You want to play a game? Okay, why not? Childe cannot wait to see what tricks you got on those sleeves. Are you ever getting away? Does an amateur ever win when they play a game with a professional trickster? Never.

Still, nothing bites like a cornered rat. You are no airhead, and he is fully aware of that. Just not as cunning and observent as him, that’s all.

The way you just kept your emotions sealed up is impressive, even to someone like him. Even when he got hansy, you did not flinch and just stared at the corner. Childe can only catch faint glimpses of anger when you thought he wasn’t looking.

Hm, when are you pulling your trigger? Tonight, or tomorrow night? Not that Childe is impatient, anything from you is worth waiting. But he would need to dismiss his patrolling underlings in the nearby woods beforehand. No extras would be allowed to disturb this game.

There is no chance during the day, a somewhat mutual understanding for you two. Night time in comparison, is a different story. 

Anyone’s sleeping hours is their most vulnerable time of the day, Childe is no exception. You do not plan to harm him, not that you don’t want to. But you are willing to swallow the pent up frustration towards him if you would never see his face again after this. Maybe beating up some slimes would help with the release?

You somehow managed to slip a mixture of herbs into his tea. Since he would buy cooking ingredients for you from time to time, you had requested a bunch of herbs along with the ingredients of a sleep inducing medicine you remembered. Although Childe does all he can to keep you near him, there are inevitable hours that he needs to be somewhere without you. He cannot jeopardize your safety with troublesome monsters. On a side note, he loves showing you off to anyone, his colleagues, acquaintances, business partners, anyone he does not deem a threat.

Enough time for you to make those herbs into powder and cover it up with a few spoons of milk. Tea with milk has become quite popular in Liyue as of late. Childe has grown to love them, so you have learned how to mix it up. He always let you handle his food and drinks, saying that he “trusts you”. What you do not know is this is one of the openings he exposed on purpose. It’s not like you can aquire anything deadly under his suffocating supervision.

Your plan will work, or so you think. Childe will not wake up when you wiggle out of his grasp, because dreamland will keep him occupied. All you need is a glider and a usable sword from Liyue and you’ll get your life back. Bottling up extreme emotions has certainly taken a toll on your mind, but it will be worth it if that is the prerequisite of being free.

Something about this being so easy sits ill with you. Have you really been with the youngest Fatui Harbinger this whole time? But that was brushed off your shoulders by the sheer excitement of regaining your long lost freedom. You know Liyue is in walking distance, all you need to do is cross these woods and-

The moment you dive into the forest, you think you heard an amused chuckle. 

That smooth voice terrifies you to no end, the same voice you took orders from for the past month.

Oh, how Childe loves seeing you happy. It’s priceless, both literally and figuratively. No matter how many things he buys you, you had not shown him even one small smile. Enjoy your sweet freedom, because it ain’t going to last. You certainly will know your place after this right? If not you are just dumber then he give you credit for.

That glow of relief in your eyes is worth every last bit of this intense dizzying feeling to Childe. To make sure your plan go through, he had drunk the tea without hesitation, quick enough to catch the momentarily excitement you expressed. He knows the game is on, therefore he had given the night patrol guards the entire evening off. Forcing himself to stay concious by digging his nails into his palms, Childe followed you into the woods.

Your potion is quite strong. Excellent, you’ll have to give him the recipe for informational purposes later. Especially how you managed to achieve such effects with a few herbs you had. He never took you to be anything less than a smart girl, but this has exceeded his expectations. Where’s the fun in a game without challenges?

How you storm through the forest wearing that cute terrified expression looks so endearing, it’s surely not his fault if he wants to enjoy this sight to be longer right.

So, each time you feel the slightest at ease due to whatever reason, expect Childe to make some sound to send you running like your life depends on it again. The sadistic man is hunting you down playfully, like a cat chasing a stray mouse to the inevitable corner.

You know he is toying with you. There is nothing you can do to make him shut up though.

“Love, you had scratched your leg. Must hurts by the looks of it.”

“Liyue is that way, you know.”

“Are you tired? If you want to jog in the middle of the night, you should have called me to come along!”

How can he say those things nonchalantly while you are trying to escape from him?  Here he is, daunting you with that signature smile he wears so very often. That is when reality slaps you right in the face. No matter how hard you plan, no matter how fast you run, there is no getting rid of him.

When your stamina runs out, a simple pull and push on your left wrist is enough to let you fall onto the ground panting. Even now, you still refuse to beg for mercy. You would take the cold grounds to the warmth of Childe’s embrace anyday. 

“Aw, burnt out already? Pathetic. Looks like we need to work on your stamina more. But this is not the place for exercise.”

“Look at me.” His slender but forceful fingers tilt your head up, making you look into those ocean blue orbs. There is anger present in his eyes, but those emotions are more a mixture of delight and that. His smile had also been replaced by a mocking smirk. “You, trying to leave me? Your sense of humor is...well, let’s just call it unique. Lucky for you, you amused me nonetheless.”

“I know what you’re thinking. How I’m a selfish jerk and you hate me. Why be so ungrateful? You get to live in luxury thanks to me, you know. I am selfish, yes, but look how stupid you are. I know you added something extra in my evening tea, my beloved.”

“Come now, we are going to do some exercises suited for a night like this once we’re back home. It is our one month milestone, after all. You had already given me your gift, it is only fair for you that I do the same.”

Childe is not making a sarcastic remark. The thrill of that chase was the best fun he had in months. And you are going to love his gift too, maybe not right away, but surely sometimes after. 

You have to mentally prepare yourself for the worst as he dragged you back to the prison, hopefully you’ll still be able to walk properly after whatever Childe got in store.

F2P Yanfei Build Tips

I mentioned in a previous post that I really think pulling on the upcoming Zhongli banner is a great idea for newer players and especially f2p players that have been saving their primos/are nearing pity. This is in large part because the new character Yanfei is looking like a very good character to add to your roster if you lack a main carry or Pyro DPS character.

Pyro is by no means required in this game, but Mihoyo definitely favors it over the other elements. It has access to the two best reactions in the game, melt and vaporise, and can be used with electro for overload to break shields with ease. Dendro when Mihoyo?

Yanfei seems like a f2p player’s dream character, she’s basically a budget Klee. Plus, she’s adorable and has a unique back story akin to Ganyu’s! Unless you just don’t like her design for whatever reason, I highly recommend trying your luck to get her!

Here is a little f2p friendly guide to help you build her should you pull her ! :)

Talents and Ascension

Prioritize Yanfei’s normal attacks when building her talents. Most of her damage will come from Charged Attacks, so her damage will scale better by leveling up her autos first.

Her burst should be second priority since it has a higher damage multiplier. Her skill can be saved for last.

She will require a boss drop from Azhdaha, Bloodjade Branch. Azhdaha is the new weekly boss being introduced in 1.5. Be sure to challenge him once a week!

Other items you will need to ascend her as a character are Agnius Agate, Primordial Jade, Noctilucous Jade, and Treasure Hoarder Insignias!

Weapon

If Yanfei is as much like Klee as she sounds, then the Widsith will likely be her BiS 4 star weapon. Obviously, if you have a 5 star catalyst then use that! If you don’t have either of these, don’t fret! The Mappa Mare is a craftable weapon and is a great choice!

Mappa Mare scales with Elemental Mastery, which is fantastic for a character that relies on reactions to do damage. It’s passive is also useful, granting a 10% elemental damage bonus when an elemental reaction is triggered. This effect can stack twice and scales higher with refinement.

Other great weapons if you have them on hand are the Blackcliff Agate and Solar Pearl. These weapons are great because they provide additional crit dmg and crit rate respectively. Blackcliff can be purchased in the shop with star glitter while the Solar Pearl is a BP exclusive weapon.

Artifacts

*If you are not AR45+* I do not recommend wasting your resin on artifacts. Wait until you’re world level 7 and challenge Lv 90 domains to get guaranteed 5 star artifact drops.*

I’ll also use Klee again for inspiration here. The ideal artifact set for Yanfei would likely be Wanderers Troupe 4pc set. WT is very hard to farm though so Crimson Witch or Lava Walker sets would be good alternatives. In terms of priority I’d say it’s WT > WT/CW > CW > LW but it really just depends on the quality of the artifacts.

For main stats your timepiece should be Atk% unless you have very low Elemental Mastery. If you’re using Mappa Mare and have at least a 2pc Wanderers Troupe set then I’d go with Atk% as a main stat. I’d also use Atk% if you plan on pairing her with Sucrose, since she provides free EM to her teammates. If you are not using Mappa Mare or you don’t have good rolls for EM on your artifacts than shoot for EM as the main stat. So, Atk > EM unless your EM is <100ish.

The cup should 100% be Pyro Dmg Bonus. If you don’t have a single Pyro cup you can run atk% until you do get a Pyro cup.

The circlet should be Crit rate or Crit Dmg, depending which one gets you closer to the ideal 1:2 crit ratio. If your crit rate is <50% I’d say go with Crit Rate over Crit Dmg for more consistency. If you have >50% crit rate then prioritize Crit Dmg.

Sub stats should be prioritized as: Crit rate = Crit Dmg > atk% > elemental mastery > energy recharge > flat Atk and pray you don’t get too many Def or HP rolls.

Team Comp

Yanfei will preform best in a quick swap reaction based team. She will have the best synergy with Hydro, Cryo, Anemo and other Pyro characters. And wouldn’t you know it? Diona will be given away for free in 1.5!

Diona is a fantastic support character, and especially to Yanfei for several reasons:

Cryo application for Melt procs. Diona can apply Cryo with her skill as well as her Burst.

Diona has one of the better shields in the game. As a charged attacker, Yanfei will benefit from the interruption resistance that a shield provides. Diona’s shield scales with HP, so it’s relatively easy to build. It also provides a movement speed increase which is pretty cool and can cleanse other elements off of you to remove unwanted debuffs.

Her burst heals while dealing Cryo damage. This synergizes great with Yanfei. If you happen to have her at max constellation, Diona provides a hefty elemental mastery buff to her teammates inside the AoE of her burst too!

Diona can make use of multiple artifact sets. The new Millieth set looks fantastic for her on paper. She can also utilize the 4pc Maiden Beloved set or pair it with Scholar/Exile. If you lack a Energy Recharge weapon such as Sacrificial Bow or Favonius Warbow, then a simple 2pc Scholar/2pc Exile will work exceptionally well on her. Stack HP% on her timepiece, cup, and circlet to get the most out of her healing and shield.

There are several other characters you could pair with Yanfei and Diona to get a solid team comp. It ultimately comes down to which characters you have in your roster, but for the sake of this build we’ll rely on free characters that everyone has access to.

For the third slot of this team comp, an Anemo character that can utilize Viridescent Venerer artifact set would be great for shredding Pyro resistance for Yanfei. Don’t have Venti, Sucrose, or Jean? Don’t worry, Anemo MC works great as a VV support thanks to their ability to reliably swirl! They also have a fair amount of crowd control and can reach c6 very easily.

For the last slot in this specific team I recommend Bennett if you have him, but if you don’t have him, Xiangling works great! Either way we will be using this slot as a burst support/nuke. I choose these two characters because they are Pyro, which gives the team Pyro resonance, increasing party Atk by 25%! I also chose them because they can both utilize 4pc Noblesse Oblige artifact set. The idea is to use their burst to increase the overall damage of the team. Again, Bennett is perfect for this role but I’ll focus on Xiangling since she’s free to everyone.

Yanfei + Diona + Traveler + Xiangling is a team that will use quick swap play style. Quickswap is a form of play that relies on swapping characters in and out more frequently for higher combined damage, as opposed to Sustained play style where one character is dealing most of the damage. This team can be used in a 4 step rotation:

1.) Start with Xiangling and use her skill or burst to apply Pyro to enemies/activate the NO boost.

2.) Once Pyro is applied, swap to the Traveler and use their skill to swirl Pyro against enemies. This will activate VV 4pc boost, which shreds swirled enemy’s resistance to Pyro by 60%

3.) Swap to Diona and apply Cryo with her skill or Ult.

4.) Finally, Swap Yanfei in and use her charged attacks/burst to proc melts and do big pp damage.

Other 4 ⭐️ characters that can be used with Yanfei include Bennett, Barbara, Chongyun, Sucrose, Xingqiu, Xinyan, Rosaria, and Kaeya. Shoot for Pyro resonance for that sweet Atk buff. Hydro or Cryo for vape and melt procs (Xingqiu is fantastic for this if you have him) and a VV user for resistance shredding (unless you have Zhongli as his shield will shred resistance for you!)

Yanfei can also be used with Electro characters like Fischl for niche shield breaking. Keep in mind that Overload does push enemies back and often requires you to sprint to keep up with them. Charged attackers like Yanfei do not like to sprint too much.

Geo resonance is also a solid choice for her if you have Zhongli, Albedo, or both. If you lack these 5 ⭐️ characters I’d use her in the standard Pyro + Anemo + Hydro/Cryo comp because she doesn’t really have the greatest synergy with other geo characters.

TLDR:

Yanfei is a Pyro DPS character very similar to Klee. She can make use of the 4⭐️ craftable weapon, Mappa Mare; use Wanderer’s Troupe, Crimson Witch or Lavawalker artifact sets with Atk/EM timepiece, Pyro Bonus goblet, and Crit circlet. She ascends with Noctilucous Jade and Primordial Jade, and her talents level up with Bloodjade Branch from new weekly boss Azhdaha. She pairs well with quick swap teams that focus on vaporise and melt elemental reactions!

I hope some people find this helpful! Again, I think Yanfei has really good potential and would make a great addition to your team if you’re looking for another main carry. If you’re new or f2p she’s a great alternative to characters like Diluc and Klee for both overworld and Abyss. Zhongli is also a very good character to have so you really can’t go wrong pulling on this rate up.

okay, this *may* seem bad, but it's hands down one of my all time favourite reads, not just as a fanfic. it has a happy end (worry not!), reigen being a reluctant disaster dad and teru— god, i love the way he thinks, feels, *copes* and changes as a person over the course of this fic. it shows all sides of him, the good, the bad and the ugly. he tries, he struggles, he relapses and recovers. some works just stick with you forever, and i'd be lying if i said that this one didn't change my life. like, i thought that it was the bee's knees the first time i read it and i was so mad that it had to end that i talked my friend's ear off about how unfair it was (though upon re-reading, when i was older and capable of understanding things a little better, i decided that the ending was perfect as it was). it's definitely not a work that i would recommend to someone sensitive, but i think i've established myself as someone who enjoys meaningful angst.

god. these two are so disgusting and problematic, i love them. this fic pulls no stops. the author really looked at these two dumbasses and said "yeah, the only way they'd ever get along realistically is in a life or death situatio— wait," and we gotta appreciate that. well-thought-out survival stories are a very specific niche that i've always enjoyed, so adding familiar characters into the mix can only get me more intrigued. author also snatches all my uwus for appealing to my inner neat-freak and consistently finding different ways to give the boys hygienic products. if you want drama, tension and survival with some humour sprinkled in for the ~flavour~, this is a perfect read!

The last character, Sayu is a new four-star ninja character who wields an Anemo Vision and a giant claymore bigger than herself.

    New Boss Enemies and precious loot also await players in Inazuma. In Version 2.0, the Hypostasis family will see a new Pyro member joining - the Pyro Hypostasis. Another new boss, the Perpetual Mechanical Array which seems to have some kind of connection with the Ruin Guards in Mondstadt and Liyue will also appear in Inazuma. After its debut in Version 1.6, Maguu Kenki will also be found as a World Boss and a source for Character Level-Up Materials in Inazuma.

  The Version 2.0 update will also include more new features to enhance player experience, including the long-awaited cross-save function across PlayStation®, PC, and mobile. Meanwhile, more refined character shading, Haptic Feedback support for the PlayStation®5 DualSense Controller, and more feature optimizations will be added to the game to deliver a richer visual and tactile experience to players.

Will You Do the Fandango: An Analysis of Scaramouche and His Connection to Bohemian Rhapsody

“I see a little silhouetto of a man / Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you the fandango? / Thunderbolts and lightning / very very frightening” —Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody

Scaramouche, the Balladeer, the Little Skirmisher, and the Sixth of the Fatui Harbingers quickly became subjected to edits and memes regarding the line in rock legend “Bohemeian Rhapsody” as seen above. Other Genshin theorists have brought up the possibility due to the uncanny similarities to the description that perhaps Scaramouche’s character was inspired by Queen’s song. These theorists have been dismissed by others as the reference being merely coincidental and not matching up with the character. 

This is blatantly untrue, which is why I will be diving into an analysis of how “Bohemian Rhapsody” has been used to create Scaramouche’s current characterization and storylines and how certain lines may be used to predict the future of this character and perhaps a future character in Genshin Impact. 

“Is this the real life?

Is this just fantasy?

Caught in a landslide, 

No escape from reality.

Open your eyes, 

Look up to the skies and see. . .”

The opening of “Bohemian Rhapsody” aligns perfectly to the first event Scaramouche appears in, 1.1’s event “Unreconciled Stars.” At the end of the event, Scaramouche states that he has discovered a secret, that the stars are a lie and Teyvat exists beneath a false sky. I don’t feel I need to explain how perfectly the first verse fits this storyline, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence either that the infamous opening to this legendary song is the inspiration for the introduction of this infamous character. 

“I’m just a poor boy

I need no sympathy 

Because it’s easy come

Easy go

Little high

Little low

Any way the wind blows

Nothing really matters to me

To me”

The second verse is a description of Scaramouche as we first learn of him in “Unreconciled Stars” as a “vagrant from Inazuma” or a wanderer from that nation. The backstory that we learn in “Husk of Opulent Dreams” artifact set and the Surpassing Cup of the “Pale Flames” artifact set would likely qualify Scaramouche as “a poor boy” although he like the voice of Bohemian Rhapsody would likely prefer to not be sympathized with. The references to easy come/easy go and going “anywhere the wind blows” lines were used to create the persona of the wanderer. 

The last line “nothing really matters to me/to me” is particularly interesting. It plays more into later parts of the song, but it also describes how Scaramouche sees humanity as in Act III of the Inzauma Archon Quest: “How can you call it anything more? It's the way of the world. Human life is worthless.” This is also supported by the Surpassing Cup’s commentary on how Scaramouche feels about humans. 

The next sections are where it gets particularly interesting for how MiHoyo took inspiration from Bohemian Rhapsody to create Scaramouche. 

“Mamaaa,

Just killed a man,

Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger,

Now he's dead

Mamaaa, life had just begun,

But now I've gone and thrown it all away

Mama, oooh,

Didn't mean to make you cry,

If I'm not back again this time tomorrow,

Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters.”

This verse could have been used to create some of the more obscure Scaramouche lore. Scaramouche is noted in the Husk of Opulent Dreams artifact set that he used to be more emotional when he had the gnosis, which was a factor in his rejection by Ei/Beelzebul when she was creating her puppets, as the Raiden Shogun needed to be cold and emotionless in order to carry out Ei’s desired eternity. 

She rejects him and he becomes a wanderer, and according to “Rather Aged Notes” lore, Scaramouche befriended a boy named Katsurgari at Tatarasuna. The circumstances regarding this full story are still currently ambiguous, but we know that there was some sort of disaster there in which Scaramouche begged for Ei’s help, but was denied for reasons unknown, and then went missing. In this time, a man Nagamasa murdered Katasurgari  for a “misconduct” hinted at being related to Scaramouche’s initial disappearance and Scaramouche began in a cycle of revenge, starting with avenging Katsurgari by killing Nagamasa. He then destroyed 3/5 of the Raiden Gokaden, the great blacksmith schools of Inazuma that led to the disgrace of the Kamisato Clans. 

He’s still rather young, as this is within a human lifespan directly after the Cataclysm, so “life has just begun” is accurate, as is “now I’ve gone and thrown it all away” as it is implied that the events regarding  Tatarasuna was the start to his descent into villainy and apathy. 

While these regrets and disappointments at not being wanted by Ei haven’t fully shown up in his actual characterization, we have strong reason to believe they will be part of it in the future, given the lore of the Husk of Opulent Dreams: “the heart wasn’t all he thought it would be” and the description of him crying in dreams when he had the gnosis the first time. 

Now, “if I’m not back again this time tomorrow” is admittedly a lyric that is harder to relate to Scaramouche and his storyline. Let’s put a pin in it, we’ll get back to this later along with some of the other lyrics that can’t right now be tied to Scaramouche right now.

Goodbye, everybody, I've got to go

This is also ambiguous and difficult to tie to Scaramouche’s current lore. I’ve seen the idea though from u/Mietin on Reddit that this line could be applied to Scaramouche as he now currently has the gnosis and “his time” is referring to his time to do what he was born to do—take the Electro Gnosis. I like this interpretation as “shivers down my spine/body’s aching all the time” would fit with what we know from the Husk of Opulent Dreams set and how the gnosis isn’t what he thought it was and came with a huge price that is currently left unnamed by the narrative. 

“Goodbye, everybody, I’ve got to go” is much like “If I’m not back again this time tomorrow” and I think that we have yet to get to this part in his storyline. 

Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth

Mama, oooh

I don't want to die,

I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all.

The next line though ties us back into Scaramouche and his themes of facing the truth of this world with the false skies. Following that, we get the motivations hinted at by the Surpassing Cup and Husk of Opulent Dreams artifact set: Scaramouche did not want to be tossed away by Ei, but he also lacks purpose and is aimless, and I have a feeling that that last line is actually very close to the truth of how the character feels.

Scaramouch, Scaramouch, will you do the Fandango!

Thunderbolts and lightning, very, very frightening me

And here we are, the basic description of the little man himself! Scaramouche is a short, frightening antagonist with a distinct silhouette and Electro powers or associations at the very least. The Ominous Fandango is also the name of his theme, so we don’t need to go any further. I suspect we will see the word Fandango in his attacks somewhere when he becomes a playable character.

The Genshin Impact wiki interprets this section as being a reference to Unreconciled Stars and his views of false skies and heresy being a reference to Galileo Galieli. Which is probably true, but I find this kind of unsatisfying. We’ll put a pin in this too, we’ll get back to this. 

I'm just a poor boy nobody loves me

He's just a poor boy from a poor family,

Spare him his life from this monstrosity

Repeating sentiments from before, Scaramouche is a boy who has been rejected by his poor, tragic, misfortunate family which he has taken after, unfortunately. “Spare him his life from this monstrosity” could refer to Ei refusing to destroy him because he couldn’t be her prototype. It could also refer to the next section. 

Easy come, easy go, will you let me go

This entire section I think is the storyline coming up with the Harbingers and Scaramouche because the Tsaritsa is not going to let the Inazuman wanderer and vagrant easy-go away from the Harbingers. The lyrics are fairly self-explanatory here, but “Bismillah” also helps, being a call for mercy in the name of God, essentially. 

Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me,

For meee

This lyric is the spoiler for Inazuma’s arc, that Scaramouche is the devil Beelzebub/Beelzebul has put aside for Inazuma/the Traveler. 

So you think you can stop me and spit in my eye

So you think you can love me and leave me to die

Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby,

Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here

This describes Scaramouche a he currently is: resentful of Ei, his mother/creator for abandoning him and as a vagrant who likely has left due to Ei’s neglect. 

Nothing really matters, Anyone can see,

Any way the wind blows...

And here we sum up Scaramouche’s view of humanity and life: he does not care, and he will continue to wander, in a dark parallel to Traveler, until he finds a home or runs out of places to run to. 

That finishes the overview of the song. Now it’s time to go back to the sections we put a pin in and let’s use the song to speculate where Scaramouche’s character is going from here. 

“Goodbye, everybody, I’ve got to go” and “If I’m not back again this time tomorrow” will likely either be an aspect we learn to the backstory with Tatarasuna where we find out that his leaving/descent into villainy was more tragic/unwilling than we initially believed. Or this will refer to a redemption arc of sorts that will end with the character being a comrade of the Traveler and eventually making a sacrifice for the Traveler in a mysterious disappearance (but not a death, as I highly doubt playable characters will ever die). 

Which leads us to our last line, or rather, name: “Galileo Figaro—magnifico.” So I think this will go one of two ways: Galileo is going to be Scaramouche’s final name. Ei never named him, and he went by Kunikuzushi after the stock Kabuki character after Ei abandoned him. He allegedly had a real name but has forgotten it. I think once he leaves the Harbingers, he won’t be Kunikuzushi: rather, he will become Galileo, as the heretic of Teyvat and that’s the line’s meaning. 

But then there’s my pet crack theory: Galileo is a character Scaramouche will meet in Fontaine that will become important to the resolution of his story arc. Figaro is referring to a French form of opera, hence the character likely being from Fontaine. Is there very little evidence for this? Yes. Is it still my pet theory? Also yes. 

Still, I look forward to seeing how Galileo Figaro and some of the sadder lines end up being recontextualized in his upcoming storylines involving the Gnosis and Childe’s manhunt for him.
