I have to admit, I am a little confused about the Kickstarter.

So the plans if I’m correct are SOBH, three new novelas and a diary and the kickstarter is a way of funding? I have no idea how it all works but I hope people can eventually buy them even if I prefer online books.

Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform, people put projects on it to try to get the funds to make them a reality. That is, the books Cassie mentioned on the newsletter don't exist yet, she will use the money gained through Kickstarter to fund the development and production of these books independently, since this project isn't being done with the backing of a publisher. However it isn't SOBH and 4 novelas, it's 4 whole books: one is SOBH, one an updated version of the flower book, one a book with 4 novellas, and another a book a la GOTSM with 10 short stories focused on shadowhunter couples + the journal.

The campaign itself isn't up yet, it'll only go live in November, for now it's just a holding page on the Kickstarter site where you can sign up to receive the alert for when the Kickstarter does go live, which has its perks because if you back it up in the first 48h you'll receive the first chapter of TWP as a bonus when prizes start being send out.

Since the actual campaign isn't up yet, we can't know exactly how she will set it up, and I admit I have never used Kickstarter because it's not the crowdfunding platform used in my country, but crowdfunding projects usually have many "tiers" you can choose from. So tier 1 might get you only the SOBH book, tier 2 only the novellas book, etc, some tiers might offer a bundle of 2 or more books with or without the journal, a tier will probably offer you the chance to get all the books. Of course, price increases or decreases with what tier you decide to pledge to, and you'll only receive the products from the tier you selected.

It is unclear whether any of this material will be released online/as e-books, either as prizes for the Kickstarter or later on. For now Cassie has only said the prizes will be the 4 physical book options + a journal with art from Charlie Bowater.

It is also unclear so far if any of the books will be available to be bought after the Kickstarter ends, again, because Cassie isn't doing this with the backing of her publisher, so it's unclear whether she will be able to get them printed through them afterwards or through a different press or anything. Based on how these projects go, sometimes the crowdfunding does pay for continuous printing, sometimes not. So if you do want to guarantee your copies, for now the best choice is really to back up the Kickstarter!

She sent all the info on her newsletter which I'll copy and paste below the read more not to crowd the dash too much, but the project seems very interesting and gorgeous and I can't waaaait for it to go live!

that is not a term i'm familiarized with. the word itself was translated as the latin american trans identity 'travesti' but it doesn't mean the same thing. so i can't speak on the wrongness of it, but i did notice that it was also used in draco dormiens chapter 4

i wouldn't judge people for terms they used +15 years ago, this is more a matter of recollection of stuff that isn't aknowledged than a matter of pointing fingers imo

Combining these two messages together since they're about the same thing, regarding this post. Here is Clare's post about TID covers that R linked where Clare wrote that:

"There is no real secret hidden meaning about who is on what cover, except that the marketing department didn't want a boy on Clockwork Princess. They may perhaps have been worried that everyone would think Will's dark secret was that he was a transvestite and was always stealing Jessamine's clothes."

Apparently the term belonged to Clare's vocabulary 10+ years ago, and I think that changing it in the newer City of Bones edition was a sensible choice. If Clare/Clare's editor did not know the offensiveness of the word, they probably would've otherwise left it unchanged. To add to stuff like killer and who molests cats, yyyikes.

I think the term 'transvestite' in nowadays is mostly considered antiquated and offensive, also because it was frequently used before (and in the recent years still is?) as a derogatory term and also rather interchangeably with anything regarding gender expression. For instance, people got terms such as transgender and transvestite mixed up or thought they held the same meaning, which they do not.

There are outdated and old fashioned definitions of the word which all add to the negative connotations because of the defamatory use. By definition it means cross-dressing but in my understanding 'cross-dressing' is the preferred term. There's also history with clinical use in psychology and psychiatry that I am not really familiar with.

As to the changes made into newer editions in general, I think is suspicious and sneaky not to acknowledge them. One of the major ones was the City of Bones one where Jace tells Clary that:

"it's only been recently that women have been Shadowhunters along with men. I mean, there have always been women in the Clave—mastering the runes, creating weaponry, teaching the Killing Arts—but only a few were warriors, ones with exceptional abilities. They had to fight to be trained. Maryse was a part of the first generation of Clave women who were trained as a matter of course—and I think she never taught Isabelle how to cook because she was afraid that if she did, Isabelle would be relegated to the kitchen permanently."

Which later on would not make sense as female characters in TID and TLH could not exist as they do today if this was the angle Clare kept in her series. Which was nonsensical to begin with because why would you incapacitate your already small fighting force by not letting half of your people fight?

These are fun to spot, though.

First post here! Mainly to test out the theme. Things may be a bit slow to start, but After a while of stalking, I finally decided to start my own Emmett J. Scanlan fan blog. i’ve been playing sims ever since my mum banned it from the family computer so i had to find alternatives (class computers), & my first ever sims was ts2! but i’ve played urbz, freeplay, & ts3 as well! currently actively playing ts4. my sim style is mostly maxis mix (maxis hair, everything else is a mix).

fav world: brindleton bay/copperdale, smalltown life is strange vibes.

fav career: retail but only when it’s used with the live in business mod by littlemssam & wishing for a figure skating career (imagine figure skater kids wya?)

Mod opinion: I haven't started reading this book yet, but it is waiting for me on my bookshelf & looks so, so, so interesting!

i'm replaying the dragon age series in anticipation of the new game, and it's got me thinking... while i originally really liked clare with a.listair, i'm not sure that relationship fully fits her anymore.

the person clare has become has grown in the past 14 years and her development has shifted profoundly from when i first made her on my first playthrough ( after a really terrible breakup lmao, good riddance dude ). she's a lot more withdrawn in private than i originally thought, and she's so single-minded when it comes to her duties as a warden that i think anyone pursuing a relationship with her would have a significant uphill battle.

losing her parents so violently, losing her home to a traitor, having to take up the mantle of commander at such a young age after d.uncan's death because a.listair wouldn't do it? now that she's older she doesn't blame him, but i think there was some unspoken tension brewing there for a little while when she was younger. but all of those things necessitated that she let the girl die in h.ighever so the woman could be born a grey warden.

because of that, i think that, yes, she loves and trusts her companions. of course she does. but none of them knew her before she became the de facto commander. none of them knew her when she was just clare, the t.eryn's witty and clever daughter.

except, rory knew her. rory has always known her and i think that's why my preferences for her romance have shifted towards ser gilmore and away from everyone else. clare can't let her hair down around everyone else as much as she can around rory - she HAS to be strong, always on, always decisive, always ready to lead the charge into battle. but rory knows her favorite color and her favorite flower, he knows that she used to sing beautifully before a childhood illness damaged her vocal cords, he knows that she used to sneak out to the castle town taverns to watch the bards perform folk music and dance with the commoners.

things she doesn't do anymore, and doesn't want to talk about anymore. the only way she can move forward is, to some extent, to pretend that her old life never happened. she loves a.listair SO MUCH but i no longer think it's romantic, which is such a huge shift from where her development was just five years ago.

anyway tl;dr i'm dedicating my new canon route to ser gilmore thanks to mods that make that possible.

from best to worst: agan > parker > cote > clare > megan. agan sweep honestly! cote is a big fan of spicy foods because. well. spicy mod.

clare (SORRY IM LATE TRAFFIC WAS TERRIBLE) and agan (sorry im late i thought of like 5 other things i wanted to do on the way here). also occasionally megan (sorry im late i straight up did not want to come.)

kinda surprisingly cote! ae's a fucking menace on the blaseball field but off it. um. being repeating makes it a lot easier to literally trip over yourself it turns out

clare and agan like to go out places (clare especially loves dancing), but somehow they always end up back at the apartment before too long. and honestly even going out is really just an excuse to spend a long time wandering around and talking :)

clare and agan: agan likes clare's enthusiasm and sense of adventure! clare likes agan's kindness and creativity. they also like. both have a little mutual admiration/insecurity around the other one's interactions with their team? clare wishes she could protect her team like agan can, and agan admires how clare leads the millennials.

clare and megan: hmm. it's very complicated i think because everything they like about each other is also kind of something they dislike about each other. but i'd say.... clare admires megan's determination and boldness (some might call it hubris), and she likes having someone she can really compete with. megan...megan just thinks clare is so cool, and makes playing blaseball look effortless, and makes friends so easily, and they like that they, megan ito, have the ability to get under her skin. they also are just both so competitive. do NOT invite them to board game night. there will be blood and tears and they will get divorced for the 27th time
