YOUR VISITOR CONTROLLER MIGHT NEED SURGERY
Hello out there!!! If you use Visitor Controller mod for the Sims 2, it might be broken. I am not sure exactly which version I have ... Midge's that allows togas or the older CrispandKerosene's version with personality options.
The personality settings may be broken because I looked at my file today and sure enough, the BHAVs are not referencing personality properly.
Go into the BHAV "Check Personality Flags" inside Visitor Controller in SimPe.
It should look like this:

The highlighted node should not reference any other value but a number higher than 100.
If you see this:

Then it is broken. Personality has to be referenced in hundreds!
You must change it with the Instruction Wizard which is on the right hand side of Plugin view to make Personality features work, as in banning Lazy Sims from a gym.

The first image shows that Sims with a Neat personality lower than 400, which is 0x0190 in hexadecimal, will be banned from the lot.
Repeat for the other personalities lower in the code.

Edited Models for Modding Objects
Hi everyone, something different today! I followed a tutorial for editing object models in SimPE by hugelunatic last night and was very excited with the outcome, so thought others might be interested too.
I have changed the default object models for the mods ACR, FFS Debugger/Batbox, Sim Manipulator, Sim Blender, and the Visitor Controller. They are now a bonsai tree, frost de fleur vase, watering can, piece of driftwood and tip jar.
I have also changed the additional models you can choose from! I've used all Maxis objects and hopefully there's a good variety between all 5 mods and the types of objects used e.g. potplants, kitchen clutter, outdoor items, things to blend into community lots etc.
I have included a text file listing all models for all mods! You'll see all these items in the pictures below, along with some basic ideas of how to decorate your lots. You might need to use the moveobjects cheat to place some of the options nicely. I also plan to upload versions for less modern games soon 😁
I have the Ultimate Collection so use versions of the mods compatible with that, and use Maxis objects across all EPs and SPs for models.
Be sure to remove any other versions of these files you might have, they may be named differently!!

More immersive pet treats - Giving treats now requires Sims to go out and buy them!
My anniversary celebration gifts so far have given us players a treat, the sims a treat, and as a player that also enjoys having pets, I thought it might be nice to finish off by giving the pets a treat! :) I enjoy making my game more immersive, and giving my Sims reasons to go out and buy things in OFB businesses as well as more chores/responsibilities. Now if your Sims want to reward their adorable furbabies, they best get on down to the pet store and buy some delicious delectable pet goodies!

The original object used was by RetailSims, who kindly agreed to let me use her objects for my pet global mods. I have improved upon the mesh to include cat treats, remapped it a little and made it easier to recolor. I am not that great at photo-editing but thankfully the kind and generous @kashmiresims agreed to create some fresh new recolors for it, providing textures for cat/dog, big dogs, small dogs and cats :)

How the mod works 1. Mod impacts current family only, because maybe your visitors brought treats with them. I do that sometimes :P 2. Only impacts residential and apartment lots, so that if you encounter strays on community lots, or took a pet on vacation, you don't have to worry about it (unless it is an owned vacation home). 3. For active family to feed treats to pets on residential or apartment lots, they must have a treat bucket object present on the lot, with treats left. Every time you feed a pet a treat, the bucket capacity goes down. When it runs out, you have to buy a new one. 4. Default setting on bucket is 20 treats. It is controlled in BCON 1003 on the object, so if you want a different number you can easily change it :) The bucket is quite large, so 20 seems a little ridiculous, but I wanted your Sims to actually need to buy one every so often and 20 seemed a good compromise. A smaller version of the bucket will be coming eventually.

Conflicts: None that I know of. The bucket is a new object, separate from the original so you can have both.

⚙️ Various Mod Edits
These are some edits that I've made for my own use. I'm sharing because they might be useful for someone, but here's the deal:
⚠️ I won't make other versions/offer conflict support for these mods.
If you experience problems with them and HCDU+ doesn't report a conflict, please let me know. I've tested these mods and I use them in my own game.
If you find a mod conflict or feel like these edits aren't quite what you're looking for, please don't message me about it. The easy solution is to opt out of using these.

Visitor Controller Edit
An edit of the visitor controller version by @midgethetree.
Incorporates this trait mod by @hexagonal-bipyramid, so Loners show up on community lots and as walkbys less often.
There's a new a blocker object found under general/misc. Put this object into the inventory of any sim, and they won't show up on community lots or as walkbys at all.
Enables children and teens to visit community lots even when there aren't playable children/teens present.

Requires: the trait_MAIN from 3t2 traits project (as the blocker object uses its mesh). Doesn't require using any of the traits.

Towel Mod by Color Traits with Inappropriate Behavior
A further 3t2 trait edit of my color trait towels mod.
Makes inappropriate sims change into naked instead of the towel after a shower/bath.
As a side effect, inappropriate sims might stay naked in some other situations where the game usually pushes the sim to put the clothes on asap.

Requires: meshes & recolors from the original mod, the easy inventory check, and sauna towels by color traits mod.
Update (31.3.2024): Sims are more considerate about changing out of the towel/bathrobe when they go to sleep.

Not really an edit, but there's only a point in using this with simler90's dining group mod, even though this is a separate mod.
Raises the short-time relationship needed for visiting sims to dine together from 5 to 40.

So, from what I'm reading, this mod is basically TwoJeffs' Visitor Controller for TS2 but for the Sims 3? That would be really neat. The description says it works on both community and residential lots. I think this has more options than Inge's OFB Ticket Machine?
Nexus Mods does require free registration to download.

Yesterday I caught up on all the CC I'd missed in the last 6 months and the second I saw simmer-until-tender's Vaporwave set I NEEDED to download it and use it in Strangetown. The resulting club I've called "Perceived", and it contains mostly items from the aforementioned set, simmer-until-tender's Retro Gaming set, @nonsensical-pixels' Cybergirl set, simmer-until-tender's Vibrant Graphic Posters set, simmer-until-tender's Sparkle n Splat set, some EA stuff, and a spattering of other creators here and there. But it's like 95% @simmer-until-tender 🥰

The lil entry way into the bathroom is green, and kinda useless but mostly just a place for me to store a simblender, visitor controller, etc.

So I attended the Thunderbolt Fantasy exhibit at the Animate Akihabara annex on opening day! I was one of the first to check it out; I’m glad my friend suggested we go there first thing in the morning!
I will post more pics whenever I have the spoons. I took a lot of pics, including close-ups of the puppets to get a closer look at the astounding amount of detail that went into each puppet.
The exhibit will run until February 11th, so if any of you Thunderbolt Fantasy fans be in Tokyo between now and early next month, do stop by. Admission is free, though there may be entry restrictions such as time limits per visitor as crowd-control measures.

Minimal Townies in Sims 3
Some settings for playing with few townies as possible. This might help you. Also, I start with unpopulated worlds.
Note: Most essential sims, such as mail carrier or service (if you summon them) will still show up. The game also generates essential bosses/coworkers and classmates.
Required Mods: NRaas Register, NRaas Story Progression, NRaas Master Controller. Their settings are accessible via City Hall > NRaas.

3. Game Settings
EDIT TOWN
Go to every lot except your residence and change the type to Community > No Visitors Allowed.
This ensures random townies won't move into empty houses. It's easier than removing fridges or bulldozing lots.
You can't change some lot types like "Diving Area" because it removes their function. But combined with all other lots, townies don't end up visiting.
Rabbithole lots will say there's a special building and for sims to treat it as No Visitors Allowed, the building must be removed. But I haven't noticed many visitors.

4. Master Controller
Master Controller > Sim > Status > Personal > Type of Sim (Or) > Nonselectable
The game will spawn townies no matter what. But everything I've shared should keep them out of town.
Click any sim and see their personal status. Every townie should say "Currently out-of-town" which means they exist, but they won't appear wandering around because every lot has disallowed visitors.
Optional: Master Controller > Town > Total Annihilation
You can do this to kill all the townies off. But it feels pointless because they respawn anyways.

Interesting Effects
If you try the option Chat With Someone on the computer, your sim will do it and then immediately shut it off. That's because there's nobody in town to talk to.
Registering for online dating = no profiles available.

I Went Crazy and Picked Apart Chris Hatch Mods...
Yes...
I wanted Playgroups so bad. Functional childcare centers for toddlers. So I went to work. First, I tried a loophole to get around the fact that Chris Hatch's playgroups, unfortunately, requires a whole bunch of global overrides.
I made sure the conflicts were benign, and if they weren't, I MADE them benign.
So far, the only issue is an error in CAS. Controller-Visitor, and the problem file that WhatCausedThis shows? Every single one of my custom NPCs...
This could be because, since I was using a throwaway hood, I deleted Chris's Playgroup and Overrides, but I already had installed it into the throwaway hood. You know what that does, right? Deleting custom NPCs leads to hood corruption.
Not mad about it. I backed up the hoods I actually want and am playing in a throwaway hood.
Hopefully I can redownload the hood and see if I can play it without getting that CAS error.
If not, then something is wrong with Chris's Playgroups Plus Global overrides because when I edited his global overrides, and it gave me the CAS error, I replaced it with unedited Global overrides and it still gave me that error. My objects.pkg is fine, and Roaring Heights never had any errors thrown in CAS so hopefully my game isn't kaputz...
It was a neighborhood specific object error as well, which makes me think its a throwaway hood thing.
Anyways....
*BIG BREATH*
YES CORRUPT ME... ITS WORTH IT FOR FUNCTIONAL CHILDCARE CENTERS... THE DRAMA THAT COULD ENSUE...

Awww! Ok, the van that takes toddlers to childcare is actually really cute.
Now, the toddler actually wonkily "stood up" with hilarious glitchy animations and actually got into the van, y'all! I screamed but only a little bit.
So, we wait now...

That is amazing!
Ok it turned 6 PM so I got worried... How to get her home!
I looked back at the instructions... AHA! You call the playgroup again on the phone and she will be returned home in the van! Wonderful!

Hey guess whose bus kept getting delayed? Guess who was an eight minute walk away from home and waited ten minutes for a bus that was supposed to come in two? Guess who?
Also, someone on twitter already beat me to translating all of these! Still gonna do it anyway to release my incredible rage, but I am sadly two days late.

Weakness: After failing to “charm” an opponent, the effectiveness of the skill decreases dramatically; if he receives “mockery” by the opponent, then he briefly crashes out [1].
Ultimate move: Allurement of the stars Emit the spectacular light of stars, causing enemies within range to enter a “charmed” state, and listen to his every command.
The young successor to the emerald palace, with the words “splendor” written over every inch of his appearance. It’s said that, on the day of the prince’s birth, a wizard appeared at the palace, and used a spell to grant him unparalleled charisma; the dragon, on the other hand, left a mark on the palace walls, a secret contract with the royal family. As was intended [2] , Xierfeiwen grew up surrounded by adoration and bouquets of flowers, and those who desired to meet with the prince had to serve up the most precious treasures to do so. However, all gifts granted by destiny come with a price. Although his appearance is as eye-catchingly bright as sunlight, a sliver of a deep abyss [3] hides within his gaze. There once were people who heard this from the prince’s personal servants: when the night is silent, the prince often stands alone in the high towers of the castle, looking to the distant stars, as if he were searching for something.
[1] Technically, the translation is “his defences break briefly,”  but 破防 has a very specific meaning that I can best describe as “crashing out.”
[2] The word used here is “according to [someone’s] wishes, but it doesn’t specify whose wishes.
[3] I couldn’t find a way to translate this without implying something slightly off! The original text is best described as “there’s something hidden going on with him, and it’s probably nothing too good, but we’re not sure what it is.”

Weakness: Cilantro. After coming in contact with cilantro, all his magic is deactivated for ten seconds, and he enters a “dazed” state.
Ultimate move: Eye of insight Stage one: Identify the enemy’s intent behind the skill they’re currently using Stage two: Apply “mind control” [1] to liars Stage three: Apply any potion effect to an enemy, with a guaranteed-hit.
He was once an 【honourary alumnus】 of the elite magic academy of the eastern continent. After he invented a transformation potion of 【turning princesses into unicorns】, a bounty was put out for him by the thirteen nations, and in the blink of an eye, the genius potion brewer became an evil wizard. The explanation provided by Xavier himself is “I’m just a student.” Throughout the century, he travelled the lands far and wide with the bounty over his head, and eventually arrived at another continent, settling down within his wizard tower to continue his strange research after reaching a secret agreement with the royal family. All sorts of people sought him out, whether it be adventurers seeking battle, tyrants with hidden intentions, or even the legendary dragon, so long as they followed the principle of 【equivalent exchange】, this elegant wizard was willing to fulfill all of his visitors’ requests. Only — do not try to lie your way into gaining more than you earn. His eyes can see through all deception, and to this day, the dungeons of the wizard tower echo with the woeful cries of countless critters.
[1] Technically "control of mental state" or something similar -- it doesn't have to be mind control, it could be like, he puts you in the torment nexus or something.

Vein [1] Dragon
Weakness: It [2] cannot tolerate its Mahjong skills being bested. If it loses during a match involving a gamble, it’ll enter an “enraged” state that causes its mana stat to lower.
Ultimate move: Roar of the dragon It breathes out dragon flame, and enemies that it hits will be “reconstituted,” transfiguring into a random form, however, its control over the skill weakens when it’s angry, possibly resulting in it turning itself into its own scales and blowing up into fireworks [3].
The evil dragon of legend. No one knows how many years this ancient creature has lived for. The Vein dragon always shows itself in the form of a handsome young man, expressing to the humans its emotions as blazing and vivid as dragon flame. It’s said that while it was travelling the world, it came to enjoy the feeling of teasing others after stealing good food from children and making them cry, in addition to developing a taste for “mahjong.” Adventurers, whom it catches and brings into the dragon’s den, tend to find out that it just wants to find people who’ll play mahjong with it in order to pass the time, but that its skill with the game is far inferior to its skill with breathing fire. If a challenger “unfortunately” bests it in a game, they end up being burned into mahjong pieces, and with a final plea for mercy, become part of the décor of the dragon’s den. It's said that the latest visitor to the dragon’s den is the wizard of the sighing swamp, and that the two of them appear to be plotting some sort of new plan…
[1] Fun fact, the 未影龙 of Vein’s fantasy name (the first two characters are the same as his Chinese name Xiao Weiying) looks really similar to 末影龙, as in ender Dragon (you can see the only difference is the length of the top most horizontal bar), like the one from Minecraft. I’m pretty sure this was on purpose.
[2] The 它 in Chinese is subtly different than the “it” of English — in this case, it’s likely that the video’s using 它 for 未影龙 because it’s meant to be a more animal/beast-like creature than like, Vein The Guy. Although I do think it’d be really funny if Vein The Guy also used 它, and no one ever noticed because all Chinese pronouns are just… pronounced the same.
[3] What in the six plains is this supposed to mean? I don’t know. The point is that it blows itself up.

Inspired by @kaluxsims's recent upload, I followed a tutorial by @hugelunatic last night and was very excited and thought others might be too.
Would anyone else be interested if I uploaded my edited mods which have changed some of the model options for the Sim Blender, Sim Manipulator, FFS Debugger/Batbox, ACR and Visitor Controller? I've used Maxis objects and created versions for modern games with things like tv remote, fire extinguisher, step stool... and also more historical games with things like driftwood, a rock, clay pot etc.

alternative university ideas 🤔💭
so i've been trying to think through how i want to handle university in my game. i like the idea of my sims having at least a round to "go to college" (whatever that looks like) before they transition into full adulthood. but i honestly hate university the way it works in the game and never look forward to university rounds. i hate grinding to fill up a performance meter with no real-world use for my sims. the skill points are nice, but i dread the homework/term paper side of it.
so i'm thinking i could create a single lot that has classrooms and practical skilling areas, both for standard skills and talent badges. kind of a cross between a community college and a community center. i could have my newly adult sims stay there for a round in a mocked up dorm and pursue whatever they want for 5-6 days and move out significantly more talented than they came. i was planning to use the sim blender/visitor controller to teleport relevant sims in and make them selectable to use skilling objects to make the lot seem less empty. i think there are 3 practical ways to do this:
an apartment - make an apartment building with only a few small units. the common areas would be the classrooms. the pros of this are that my sim could actually live there and pay reasonable rent (i could depreciate/tweak the rent with pescado's magic wand, or cheat them enough money for rent). the cons are that non-students could move in, and that i'd have to either knock down walls or use cheats to make the apartments bigger if i'm sending multiple people to college at once. and just the general bugginess of apartments could be an issue.
an owned business - make a random sim own the college campus, take them to the lot, and transport/make selectable the students i want to play. this is closest to how other simmers handle playable schools (to my knowledge). the pros are that i'd have more freedom with it not being an apartment and it would have more activity as a business. the cons are that i feel like i'd need additional mods to make this work and some tweaking to adjust the business aspect to not interfere. would i be able to have the business owner/visitors sleep there overnight for multiple days to mimic a dorm? i don't know! i've never tried it. i feel like there's potential for issues there.
a college dorm - make a dorm in the university subhood and cheat the college progress bars full/manually stop students from going to class, then let them do whatever in their downtime. the cons are that i honestly don't even want to fuck with the university subhood anymore and i'd either have find new mods or micromanage my sims to make sure they didn't go to class. the pros are that it would auto-populate with dormies and there wouldn't be any issues with trying to finagle a dorm.
i don't know! just thinking out loud a little here... any feedback/ideas for mods are totally welcome! if you play university differently than how the EP was meant to be played, i'd love to hear your thoughts in the reblogs/replies.
