One Dress a Day Challenge
November: Oscar Winners
Death on the Nile / Angela Lansbury as Salome Otterbourne
Year: 1978
Designer: Anthony Powell
It's hard to believe Angela Lansbury didn't get an Oscar nomination for her delightfully over-the-top portrayal of the sozzled romance novelist--but at least Anthony Powell got one (and won) for her delightfully over-the-top costumes. This is the outfit in which we first meet Salome, and it really tells us all we need to know about her: she's flamboyant, eccentric, and fond of lavish detail. This is her idea of an evening dress.

We lose everytime a girl in fiction who is on the masc side and happy with it becomes very feminine as a supposed sign of maturity

Immortal Decadent After the Ball
If you can't tell, this is based on a painting by Ramon Casas called Decadent young woman. After the dance. (More about it at the end)

"Decadent young woman. After the dance", 1899 by Ramon Casas
I was looking through my folder of paintings, thinking if one of them could be turned into fanart. I found this one and thought it would fit Crowley very well. Well, turns out the name makes it even more fitting! The Incident in Good Omens That Broke All of Our Hearts, happened after a dance/ball (the painting is also known as "After the Ball"), which is just incredibly serendipitous.
Also of course everything about the pose, the dark clothes and the red hair just screamed Crowley to me.

One Dress a Day Challenge
Anything Goes December
The Firefly / Jeanette MacDonald as Nina Maria Azara
Set in Napoleonic-era Spain, this film starred Jeanette MacDonald as a glamorous singing spy. She made this film without her usual screen partner Nelson Eddy; instead, she's opposite Allan Jones, who is far less irritating when he isn't taking screentime away from the Marx Brothers.
For this movie, Jeanette got to wear a stunning succession of semi-historical gowns by Adrian. This one, for her first musical number, may just be the most spectacular of them all, or at least the shiniest! The outline is more late-18th century than her "offstage" costumes, which are in the high-waisted Regency or Empire style--see this gown from the month of monochrome for comparison.

Of course, the burkini ban is messed up on grounds of religious freedom and racial discrimination. But also
Under any other circumstances, people would be HORRIFIED at a government mandate that women have to show a certain amount of skin. Like. That’s fucking dystopian, and the absolute opposite of feminism. If a government tried to pass a law that all women had to wear tube tops and miniskirts to go outside, people would rightfully be up in arms demanding blood
But because it’s targeting a marginalized religious group, many folks are lauding the blatant forced sexualization of women. Appalling
(apparently the ban also outlaws things like sun – protecting bathing suits if they cover too much skin. Which like. Yes, let’s give everyone skin cancer just so we can spite a religion we’ve decided to hate. Sounds like a good plan </s>)

Gideon Nav terrible fashion sense is so important to me babygirl has never been free to dress herself in her LIFE and i firmly believe that if she did have that freedom she would wear just. the most dogshit outfits. socks with slides. neon colors. shirts that say TITS with an arrow pointing down. outfits so bad every woman she meets is begging to take her on a department store makeover episode. outfits so bad you wonder if she got dressed in the dark upside down picking her clothing items by chaos potential. outfits so bad they wrap around to being sick as hell before winding back and punching you straight in the face
