I woke up a little late. Jet lag? Nah, I needed a rest. Close to my accommodation I found a nice restaurant and ordered fried eggs, fresh orange juice and a coffee. The fresh orange juice came, and it was fresh, the coffee came, but the waiter brought me a cheese board with a friend egg on it and said “my brother, this is better, I know you will like”. Well, I would have liked what I ordered but I was too hungry to argue and accepted the meal. It wasn’t fresh and was clearly a left over that they wanted to get rid of before lunch started. If I robbed the Dairy Lea factory I still wouldn’t have had as much cheese as this. I sampled my way around the board and then asked for the bill. The call the prayer started, and I began to pray that the price of the board wasn’t too much. It turns out that as expected, the board was considerable more expensive than the friend eggs and I got ripped off, well I won’t be going back there!
I made my way to The Blue Mosque. After I short wait, I entered it’s mighty doors. It was magnificent. A symbolic building filled covered with geometric patterns which all elevate to a central spot which symbolises Allah. I was impressed by the mosque but disgusted by the behaviour of the other tourists. They were loud, ignorant and disrespectful. The mosque is a place worship, not a tourist attraction. With their selfie sticks and Kardashian poses, the tourists were more worshippers of Steve Jobs than they were any true god. I realised that I would need to visit the mosque early, before the coach tours arrive if I was going to explore its true beauty. Anyway, more of what you were expecting…The Blue Mosque was built by Ahmed 1 between 1609-1617. It contains 260 windows and is covered in blue and green (turquoise) tiles. This is why it is called The Blue Mosque. 😁
I made my way to the Grand Bazaar. It was grand, humid, congested sand exciting. It reminded me of the Old City in Jerusalem. That’s the problem with visiting the Holy Land, many things are an imitation of its culture. The Bazaar sold carpets, Turkish Delights, belts, trousers and shirts, amongst many other items. I double tracked at a shirt stall and spend 30 minutes haggling over a few items. The negotiations were calm but fierce, and I am happy that I left with a fair price, not a bargain, but a fair price. I enjoyed visiting the Bazaar, but it was exhausting due to the sheer volume of people. In all honesty, visiting Westfield in Stratford on a weekend is a lot more stressful and dangerous than visiting the Grand Bazaar.
After a quick kebab, I made my way to the Hagia Sofia. Now this really was something. In my opinion it was more impressive than the Blue Mosque. The mosque was once a church and this was evident from the mural of Christ and various Saints. My eye’s ascended to the central dome which symbolises Allah. Unfortunately, yet again the tourists were very disrespectful. This time I was really annoyed. This is a holy site, a place of worship, whether you are religious or not, have some respect. I calmly left the mosque, fully aware that I would have to get up super early one morning if I want to witness it’s charm in tranquility.
After a quick shower I head out again for some food. I found a restaurant a bit out the way and was hoping for a quiet meal. Nope, the local musicians turned up and we had a full on rave before I had even got my starter. They were good to be fair…The food and service in Istanbul seems to be varied. I guess in time you learn the best places to visit.
Istanbul isn’t cheap, it’s not super expensive, but it’s not cheap. I suppose if you by 4 shirts on your first day, it will damage your budget. That’s why as I write this I’m sat outside the Blue Mosque, next to the fountain with a couple of cans of Efes beer, people watching. After 10 years of solo travel, yes 10 years!! I am fully aware, that the best times are often the cheapest.

Dangerous (Part 1/2)
Description: It was your best friend’s bachelorette party in one of London’s best clubs when two men had closed a bet if they would be able to seduce you. And in the end, the night ended up way better than you originally anticipated.
A/N: Oh, we're back. For this two-part one-shot, I approached both of the idiots very differently - I wanted Sam to have this sexual hotshot energy while Cutter had more of that mysterious daddy vibe. And I think that somehow, it really suits both the boys. Enjoy.
Pairing: Charlie Cutter x reader x Samuel Drake (We stan a threesome in this house)
Playlist: Idiot sandwich that stole my heart™

Part 2.

It was just another night in downtown. The sunlight was slowly fading away, ladies wore tight and short skirts, and gentlemen were sipping whiskey in the nearby bars. And London was no different. It was one of the most favorite tourist locations since it was mostly colder in there during summer and it was the crown jewel of England. Soho and Chinese street looked especially magnificent at that time of the year.
Yet the clubs were especially full of people as well. Swedish and European students, you gonna love this, mate, as Charlie said Samuel a million times. Cutter and Drake, formerly known as Morgan, were two gentlemen in their best years. They weren't some boys who would bend you over the nearest bed without knowing what to do. No. They both were quite tall, one of them would even say fairly handsome - and skilled in the first place.
Drake, the definition of a small bitch according to Cutter, was rather persistent with choosing some warmer locations like the Bahamas or the Canary Islands, let alone Cuba, for their summer vacation. But Cutter, who was born and lived his whole life in England, told him to go fuck himself and that this year, he’ll show Drake the European hospitality and girls. Samuel had to say that these young kittens looked magnificent, from both up close and from the distance.
Norwegian girls had the dirties eyes he had seen, French girls could whisper them some sweet nothings the whole night, Hungarian girls were fiery enough to show them who is the boss, Czech and Slovak girls knew well how to handle alcohol and Russian girls were both tough and sweet as candy at the same time. Yet Samuel didn't stop bitching about London being the color-less, boring city he always saw on the postcards. What did it matter that the Queen was living there when the only location which tingled Samuel’s senses was the Tower? Yet Cutter told him that Sam hadn't seen shit yet.
And bloody hell, as British men would say when they walked into the club, Samuel knew what was the boy talking about. That was the energy Sam needed to feel alive since he was rotting in hell for God knows how long. Alcohol being poured in gallons, tight pairs of jeans, and laughter all around. And this wasn’t some boring-ass club either, as Samuel would say. People were dancing, which he hasn't seen in ages. Cutter most took him to poker tournaments or to play darts.
"Bee’s knees, I love this bloody place." - Cutter sighed and took the bomber off, walking stairs down to walk to the bar of the place itself. - "Come on, you prick, don't just stand there!" - He called at Samuel with a raspy voice, laughing out loud. Sometimes, Sam looked like a small boy in a toystore. Especially when he was looking at so many lovely bottoms and tits.
"One Pimm’s Cup and a Sex on the Beach for this lady over here." - Cutter winked at the barmaid who smiled back at him, already holding the shaker to prepare some of the best drinks in London.
"What are we? Fucking ladies to drink cocktails?" - Sam asked back, leaning his back to the bar, looking around. His eyes were doing their best to see it all - the girl with afro trying to kiss the soul out of her partner's body, the boy who had his hand in his girl's panties and the twerking group in the middle of the dancefloor.
"Mate, you hadn't learned shit while you were in London. You need to start slowly before pouring down vodka and other shit." - Cutter told him, smiling at the barmaid who brought them the drinks. She was sweet - her blonde hair was in a high ponytail and her face was full of freckles. She was just the type of girl Cutter liked. Sweet, innocent, and pretty. - "Thank you, darling." - The bald man smiled at the barmaid before she ran off to serve another customer.
"And you still think that you're attractive enough to get under a young girl's panties. Who is dumber here? Cheers, mate." - Samuel answered with a dramatic British accent, toasting to Cutter before taking a sip through the straw. Yet Cutter's grin was making him sure that he had just bumped into an interesting topic.
"You don't know what you're talking about, Samuel. Both American and European chicks go crazy for a British accent. All you have to do in the bed is talk and they cum on their own." - Cutter looked around with a shit-eating grin. He knew very well that he's right. A good portion of women was into a thick British accent and his raspy voice. The voice alone could work wonders between girl’s thighs, so being tall, muscular, and having this bad boy vibe was just a bonus usually.
"I think you're lying, brother, but what can I know? I usually put my mouth to use too, but we ain't talkin’. And this mouth can show you the universe, I tell ya." - Samuel answered with a nasty grin as well, his Boston accent being fully put to use at that point. Cutter started to laugh out loud, having Samuel clueless.
"Nice to know, I will remember that, mate. You wanna show me or what?" - Cutter asked, sipping another sip of his ice-cold drink.
"You're such a douchebag." - Samuel laughed as well since Cutter knew how to turn every single situation into a stand-up.
"You see the chick at three o’clock?" - Cutter mumbled from sipping, still looking in front of himself. Samuel carefully checked her out. Not that she would notice a man staring in a club full of people, yet Samuel didn't want to come across as a creep. She was... Pretty. As a lot of women inside the club. She was yelling something at the barmaid so she would hear her, standing there in some old sneakers. Her clothes didn't reveal that much, it was just a normal white top and a pair of blue jeans. Yet something about that face made both the idiots grin when thinking about showing her the edge of paradise.
"Yeah, you bet your fucking British ass I do see that girl." - Samuel returned to the previous position, grinning into his straw just the way Cutter did. Both boys liked girls who had that little spark about them. You never could quite put the finger on it, yet it was there. You couldn't name or label it - it was the flame of the unknown, a promise of fun or... See? Neither of them knew what it is, but she had it.
"And since we’re in this bloody town for the last night, I wanna bet, mate. Since I know that British accent is a hit with the ladies and you keep telling me about some magical Boston mouth, whoever gets the girl, wins something." - Cutter put the empty glass on the bar, grinning at Samuel, having the man grinning back. Timber was yelling all over the club and it felt 2013-ish. The barmaid automatically brought both men a shot of their finest vodka since Cutter came to the club pretty frequently.
"What’s the somethin’ we talkin’ ’bout?" - Samuel bit his lower lip when the girl got her drinks and ventured back to the back of the club where the tables were. Both of them poured the vodka down their throats at the same time, both of them having that face.
"I don't know. Maybe some expansive liquor?" - Charlie asked, but after that, he started laughing. - "Oh, I know, when I get her down tonight, you owe me a ride on your motorbike baby and night with this beautiful lady." - He offered Samuel his palm, watching Sam slowly shaking it.
"When I win, your best bomber is mine. Who goes first?" - Samuel crunched the knuckles and to his surprise, Charlie motioned for him to go.
"Ladies first, mate, ladies always go first." - Charlie smiled, asking for two bottles of beer. When Samuel got his beer, he shook his head but started walking in the direction of your table.
***
It was your friend's bachelorette party and for a reason, she chose a club in London from all the destinations, like France or Italy, she could choose. You were not from there, but she wanted something big and fancy, so she decided to go for a weekend to London. You were more of staying put at home person, yet you didn't want to upset her just days from her wedding.
"Your dinks, ladies." - You yelled, earning an excited yelling of your shit-faced friends back. You’ve been sticking to beer the whole four hours you've already spent in that God-forsaken place, you've been just fine at that moment, being on bottle number four by that time.
"You're my favorite maid of honor." - Your friend Amber hugged you, giving you a big fat kiss on your cheek. You giggled at that, taking another sip of the beer. - "These men here, ugh." - Amber moaned out loud before taking a big sip of her Mochito, watching the dancefloor with her eyes open wide. You chuckled at that, sipping from your bottle.
You weren't that interested in the men there. Like, yeah, they were nice and most of the men you've encountered in England so far were true British gentlemen, but... You weren't the type who would mingle for a one-night stand. You were taking the whole crazy trip as a widening of your horizons. When Amber didn't want to be in a club, you usually traveled around to see the sights England could give you. Stratford upon Avon was cute, Devon too, but London was a blast in your opinion.
"And you're getting married next week, Amber. Don't forget about that you nasty bitch." - Monica yelled from the other side of the table, giggling at Amber's sighs.
"I envy you soooo much, Y/N. These men are everything. Just look at these damn asses." - Amber rolled her eyes, making you both laugh in sync. Suddenly, she got all serious. Her elbow bumped into your ribs making you squeal, her head motioning in a direction of some forty-something dude who was eyeing your table, slowly walking to it through the dancing crowd. - "I think he's coming for one of us, what should I do?" - Amber panicked, looking at her engagement ring.
"You won't do shit, Amber, you're the bride." - You calmed her down, making her lips from a little O in awe. She was like that when she was drunk. The man looked fine, that was true - tall with brown hair, a rough face, and a tall body. You couldn't see him clearly, you just watched him swaying his hips in black jeans and shoulders in a white t-shirt widening with every step he took.
It took him almost five minutes before he finally got there. That was mainly because of the way he was trying to sell that nasty smug. You’ve wondered how it came that he didn't wiggle his hips out. Just when he was about to tell you something, the DJ started playing some banger according to the screaming coming from the dancing crowd, which made you smile. So he leaned in without a problem. Well, at least you knew that he had some confidence inside of him.
"Night, ladies, the name’s Samuel." - He offered his palm to Monica, then to Amber and then to you, kissing your knuckles with a smile. - "How comes that three beautiful ladies end up in a place like this... Alone?" - He wondered, standing next to the empty spot long enough for Monica to scoop a bit further away. Naturally, Samuel sat next to her, giving her a rather nasty smile.
"It’s my bachelorette party!" - Amber yelled at him with a happy smile, making you smile as well when she shoved her ring right in front of that guy's face. At least the confident asshat knew that he won't make a single move at that table. Yet Samuel rose his eyebrows, smiled even wider, and gently caught her palm to look at the ring. Then he nodded and let her hand go. - "He is one of a hella happy fella, I tell you that." - And with that, his eyes hooked on your face. Monica was watching both of you with a vulgar smile on her lips.
"And what about you, doll, you're having a bachelorette party too?" - Samuel smiled, putting his bottle on the table. Before you could answer, shit-faced Amber already started telling him your story.
"She’s been single forever, I swear. It always works or spending time with her family, like, I know she's the most responsible and shit, but I am afraid that she’ll end up alone with twenty cats, and one day, she'll go nuts." - She told him seriously. The mysterious, confident and somehow sexy guy started laughing at her straightforwardness, looking you in the eyes after that.
"I will go nuts if you won't stop, bitch, this was unnecessary." - You sighed, taking a deep swing of your beer. You shook your head with an angry face. Although, Amber wasn’t stopping there, making you even more embarrassed. - "But you are a hell of a guy. Holy fuck, are those tattoos? I always wanted my fiance to get some." - She went for it and let her fingers grace his neck. Samuel had a pleased grin when she has done so.
"I've been living in Panama for some time, got ’em there." - He then proceeded to lift one of his sleeves, showing you another tattoo on his shoulder. These were poker aces. Amber but her lower bottom, looking at the tattoos, gently touching them, traveling down to feel the poor man's biceps at the very end of her exploration. To put it nicely, you were embarrassed. Yet to your surprise, the Samuel man ignored Amber drooling over him and practically climbing over the table to touch his skin. The man sat there and watched you with a small smile. - "And I have a few more on places that ain’t appropriate to show ’ere." - He mumbled and both of the ladies next to you instantly got the horny faces on.
Amber bumped her elbow into your ribs again, doing it way stealthier this time. Yeah, he was a good looking man if you'd have to be honest. He had your girls wrapped around his long finger five minutes after coming there - there was this... Testosterone or some shit like that coming out of him. Amber gave you one of these risen-eyebrows looks and bit her lower lip once again.
"Care for a dance?" - The man asked, standing up. At first, he was looking into the dancing crowd only giving you his palm as if he didn't even care. You sat there for quite a while before Samuel smiled in your direction, assuring you that he wants you to dance with him. Which, no matter how hard you'd try to deny this, it was something that made you smile too. In a gentle moment, you slipped your palm into his, hoping that at least Amber would stop hitting your ribs.
You honestly hadn't heard that song in years. Calabria felt real like a late 2010-ish song. Was this night sort of a retro party? You hadn't heard the majority of the songs in years, yet people danced to them like crazy. And let's be honest, you and Samuel weren't that much different, because as soon as you hit the dancefloor, he showed you some good moves and suddenly, it wasn't that weird or gross to be seduced by that man.
***
To be honest, Cutter was quite in the mood when he saw that Samuel and you dancing along with the other pairs. And more importantly, you two were having fun. Sam started with his most outdated moves, slowly getting to the more erotic ones when you seemed to agree with that. The man didn't want to be punched right into his nose. Yet soon, your pelvis was brought close to Samuels and Charlie could see his friend's lips whispering something in your ear. In the reaction to that, you were laughing and soon enough, you put one of your hands on his waist.
Charlie was quite familiar with the song playing. It had some good basses and the beat just invited you to dance. You were the sweetest when you let go of Samuel, rose your hands above your hand, yelling the upcoming lyrics, that went something like... - "Dangerous? Oh! That sounds good, yeah.
Talk to me baby, like I'm your dude." - It made Charlie chuckle.
He was also quite interested in the tactics Samuel used to relax you like that. The whole time Samuel was gone, Charlie stood next to the bar, thinking about what he should he do. He was choosing a tactic if you will. Every woman was different, so he better has some back-up plan if he wants to win the bet. Samuel undeniably had the charming personality chicks liked, whether he was aware of it or not. He was a forty-something-year-old dude with the mentality of a dude in his early twenties, which was attractive too.
Yet Charlie didn't have that trait. He was a man in his late forties and it could be seen as well. He was bald too. But that was something Samuel didn't quite have - the authority of something like a daddy figure if you will. He met girls who were into that sort of stuff and he hadn't got a single problem with delivering - it was quite fun actually. To say it quickly, he was a guy who was looking mysteriously with a good sense of humor, making the chicks both screaming in pleasure and very with laughter when they wanted that goofy-guy sorta stuff.
So he figured out that it would be best to figure out what you were into and work on that since the first second he introduces himself to you on the bar.
***
"You have good dance moves, Y/N!" - Sam exclaimed happily when he was leading you back to your table. You nodded, still laughing. You couldn't believe that you spend half an hour with a totally strange guy on the dancefloor. Yeah, it wasn't just dancing obviously. Sam proved to be quite handy with his palms, absorbing almost everything out of your body while his mouth was whispering funny stuff. Suddenly, you both stopped and he looked at you with a pretty bold smile. Again, he showed you how quick he could be when his left palm put some hair out of your face. - "This was fun. So... If you would like to have some more fun when you'll be leaving, call this number, deal?" - He asked and gave you a small card.
It was one of the most simple ones you've ever had seen. Samuel Drake - historian, archeologist, and an adventurer. His number was on the other side. After giving him the same nasty grin, you nodded and pushed the card into the back pocket of your jeans, letting him go.
Girls immediately noticed you coming back... All alone without that Sammy boy. But the smile was indicating that you hadn't empty hands. Amber asked you about what happened even before you sat your ass down. - "Well, we danced and lemme say, he's a good dancer and then... He gave me this business card to call him when ill be leaving. Which unfortunately won't happen since I have to lead both your drunk asses to the hotel." - You sighed, playing with the card between your fingers. Monica took it out, smiling at you.
"I'm more or less sober, so I can take Amber home while you'll find that prince charming and have a wonderful night." - She gave it back to you after reading the text under his name. - "I would love to have a cig, anyone going with me?" - Monica asked and mumbled a few curse words while she searched through her purse for a pack of cigarettes. Naturally, you got up and motioned for her to go first, telling amber to sit there on her damn ass until you come back.
It was nice to stand in some fresh air. The night was pretty cold and it was raining a bit, but you didn't care since you were already soaking wet. Monica gave you a cigarette as well and both lit it up at the same moment. She was giving you some nasty grin too, which made you chuckle. - "What?" - You mumbled, exhaling the smoke.
"He seemed to be into you big time. You sure you don't want to call the man?" - She asked and at that moment, she seemed to be pretty reasonable and sober. Your shoulders jolted unknowingly. There was something on that promise of spending a night by his side. Sam was genuinely fun, hot as far as you could say and pretty smart. Also, he wasn't drunk that much, neither were you - so it was maybe really the both-sided chemistry doing the work. A couple of times it seemed that he's going in for a kiss, yet he rather teased you and bit your earlobe gently.
"He seemed sweet and fun and all, but what about you two?" - You asked Monica silently, still smoking on the cigarette with a thoughtful face.
"Oh, shush. We'll take a cab and get to the hotel on our own. I'll look after Amber. She was right about you being all about work or family. He's a stranger and you don't have to see him ever again, and that has some magic into it. Live a bit, come on, sis." - She hugged and you, indeed, felt confident about what Monica has said.
Sam was nothing but a hot guy you met in a club. You can fuck the night away, have some fun, wait for him to fall asleep, and then drive to your hotel, sitting on a flight home tomorrow. You'll never have to see him again.
You were determined that once you'll be leaving, you'll call the man, accepting the offer. When you were inside, you walked to the bar to order some alcohol, because Amber got to drink both your and Sam's beer when you were dancing.
It took you a moment to notice that guy. He was holding a small glass of whiskey, eyeing you with a small grin. He wasn’t exactly your type of handsome, yet there was something about that face. You spotted small stable and very attentive blue eyes. This man was huge in the best meaning of the word. He wasn't fat, not at all, yet it could be seen that there are some muscles under the t-shirt he had on. He was at least twice your age, but you got nervous when you looked into his eyes.
The difference between him and the guy you met earlier was huge. While Sam appeared to be a fairly approachable, exciting, and funny person, this dude... He seemed mysterious and authoritative. Which had woken up things inside of you; things you didn't even know were there. After having your breath stuck for a while, you returned a smile to the man, which was a signal for him to move closer to you.
"Whatever the lady orders, it's my treat." - The bald man told the barmaid, having her smile. Slowly, the man put some pounds on the wooden countertop, still looking at the lady who was serving the alcohol. It was ridiculously more than what you were supposed to pay, yet the gentlemen made clear that he doesn't want a pound back. - "Sure thing, Mr. Cutter."
"And what about you, love?" - He asked, taking your palm to kiss your knuckles delicately. That accent settled inside of your ears, fully attacking your brain. It was hot only to listen to the raspy voice speaking with the fully-blown thick London accent. No matter what you did, that man’s gaze followed you around. You almost felt like you can't escape it. Why Sam was making you feel so good and that was what made you aroused, yet this man was coming across as someone who would bend you over his knee with pleasure and it made you interested as well. - "What about me?" - You asked back, smiling at the man.
"What are you doing here alone?" - Cutter said and leaned even closer, having a smile on his lips when he leaned closer enough to whisper things into your ear. He had a firm body, just like Sam did, yet these two couldn't come across differently. - "I can do something about that, sweetheart."
Was all of this a nice dream? Two attractive men approaching you on the same night, telling you to leave the place with them. Or were they serial murderers? Or did a car hit you and you were in a coma? No, your heartbeat reminded you that this is pretty much happening in front of your very eyes. What the fuck should you do? If you'll leave with Cutter, what about Sam? And if you'd leave with Sam, what about this man? Why couldn't you have them both?
Monica more or less made you swear that whatever happens, you'll leave with Sam at the end of the party. But you felt being in a tight corner at the moment. Both men had some spark in them, one of them promised you a whole night of fun and the other one felt like a total daddy.
"That's kind of you, sir." - You winked at him, not knowing what else to say. The club was slowly getting darker, changing the color scheme as it was getting closer to midnight, now playing some Russian rap songs. Cutter looked at the couples around you, seeing many of them kissing and touching far beyond the line of decency. That was before you felt tips of someone's fingers smoothing your upper arm, gently getting onto your sweaty neck and jaw.
You could turn away from that man, yet there was something that made you push your head even closer, so your lips could meet his halfway. He wasn’t shying away at all, coming in with full force - lip bite, not too long after that, he even used his tongue, holding you close by your jaw. And this man, dear lord, he had some skillful mouth. It even made you close your eyes with enjoyment, making you moan lightly into his kiss.
"So, what do you say, love? Me, you, my place here?" - He whispered once he was done with the kiss, his palm slowly traveling down on your waist and lower. Sam did touch these places, yes, but his approach was more natural than devoting straightaway. Which made you also a bit cautious and aware of the man.
"I need to go back, Mr. Cutter. But thank you for the... Ehm... Invitation anyway." - You took the drinks, hurrying up back to girls. Your heartbeat was off the charts, your whole damn body was sweaty and since there were two rather handsome men trying to win you over that night, you were aroused as well. You couldn't leave with Sam, because you'd think about Cutter and the other way around. But you were sure that you will at least masturbate that night.
"Are you okay?" - Amber yelled into your ear when you finally sat down, gulping down. You couldn't catch your breath ever since Cutter kissed you. Your gaze traveled to her and you shook your head almost frantically.
"Another guy tried to take me over to his place." - You mumbled, gulping down your whole drink at once. Monica smiled and leaned over to you.
"And was this one as handsome as that Samuel before?" - She asked, taking her cocktail out of your hand. You turned your hand to the dancefloor, imaging both the men inside of your head.
"It's hard to tell, Monica. This one was tall and well-built as well..." - You sighed, but Amber stopped you once again. - "How can you know that he was well-built?" - She wondered, taking the last ice-cold drink as well. It was a miracle that she hadn't fallen asleep until that point.
"Because I know he's a good kisser too." - You smiled and each of you started laughing like crazy. - "I mean, he wasn’t the most handsome man I've seen, yet, he had that something inside these eyes." - You shook your head, not believing the things that had happened inside that club. It was just one night you've spent there and two attractive men approached you. One of them was American, the other one was clearly British and you knew that both of them had something to offer. But you knew that you'll leave alone once again.
***
"How did it go?" - Samuel asked Cutter once he walked off the dancefloor again. Cutter was leaning his elbow to the bar, watching you and your girls chatting excitedly. After that, he turned back to Sam.
"I can't tell, mate. First, it appeared that I have her hooked, but she left after that. What about you?" - Charlie finished another glass of whiskey, moving to beer for the rest of the night. From Sam’s smirk, it was apparent that at least one of the men is feeling positive about the whole bet.
"She has my number and when I was on a smoke break, her friend told her that she should have some fun with me tonite if you know what I mean." - Samuel wiggled his eyebrows, making Cutter frown even more. Maybe he shouldn’t go for the kiss just like that, but your body was telling yes. You were attracted to him, so why shouldn't he test the waters? It was too late for these kinds of thoughts. He probably had scared you off.
The two friends were standing there for quite a while and waited for Sam's desired call, talking about nothing the whole time. Sam had to say that he had some fun time and Cutter’s most impressive bomber on top of that. But that was when both men felt someone's presence behind them.
"You two know each other?" - A voice asked them and when they turned around, it was none other than you. Your eyes were looking at both of them and it was clear that you don't know what to think of that. Sam looked at Cutter with panic, not knowing what to say.
"It's not how you think it is." - Cutter tried to calm you down, but you were visibly upset over the whole situation. Yeah, it was a bet, but Cutter meant what he said. He wanted to spend the night with you. This was just a fun way to raise the stakes. If you wouldn't get to know.
"Jesus, I should've known that you two are assholes." - You walked between the men, mumbling something about assholes, dickheads, and shits, preparing money to pay the last drinks of the night. - "How would two men like you saw something on an ugly duckling like me? Funny shit, I tell you." - You mumbled with disgust, ordering cocktails your girls asked for.
"You don't know what you're talking about, love. You're beautiful." - Cutter told you back with a small smile, looking Samuel in the eyes. The other man nodded when he realized, leaning into the bar as well. - "And intelligent as hell, which is a huge turn on. I don't know why someone as pretty as you are even let guys like us talk to you." - The American smiled at you from the other side, lust lingering inside his eyes.
Could that be? It maybe was just a bet, yet these two men seemed to be interested. It could be a game as well - but a perfect solution to your situation too. If these two knew each other, maybe you didn't have to leave the place alone because you couldn't choose between them. Maybe, you could leave with both of them at once. You’ve never done that, but the alcohol inside your veins made you courageous.
"So, you're friends, you know each other, right?" - You asked while a smile grew on your lips. Oh, Cutter knew what is about to come and... It was so nasty that it turned him on in some kind of way. Samuel was completely confused tho. - "That means you can meet me outside the club in ten, probably?" - You asked innocently, taking the drinks, smiling at Charlie. He smiled back, leaving Samuel in the dark for a little longer.
"Which one of us?" - The American demanded. He wanted to win the bet so badly because Cutter’s bombers were the best in the whole world. But when he saw your devilish grin with the shine in your eyes, his heart skipped a beat. Oh. OH. Holy fuck. You had that spark inside of you, but neither of them would ever say that you're a nasty girl as well. At least not this much.
Sam honestly never seen cutter without clothes and he didn't know if he's ready for that, but... Life was about adventure, right? And this way something Sam knew he will say yes to. There was something on having a girl helpless, being taken care of by two men. He loved to worship women, he indeed loved everything about that, but this was exciting as well. And Charlie? He knew how to approach to a threesome. There were occasions where he had joined in and in some, he was only there to watch. He especially loved when two ladies invited him to a bad. But he hadn't a single issue with giving you what you wanted.
"Both of you, silly." - You smiled sweetly before disappearing into the crowd.

The London Underground in The Empty Hearse: Part 1 - Basics of the Underground
I love the tube almost as much as I love Sherlock Holmes, and so the London Underground plot line in TEH is super interesting for me - especially because it’s full of tube-based plot holes and inaccuracies! I’m really excited to combine these two fields of interest in some analytical posts. This series may help non-Londoners if you’re writing fic about the tube, or you may just find it interesting as there’s lots of cool trivia about the tube and London in it, and if that’s not for you, there’s also a lot of pretty screenshots of John and Sherlock coming up. Something for everyone!
I’m going to go through chronologically in a series of posts, pointing out things that people not familiar with the tube system may have missed, some insight into how they filmed these scenes, and a few bits of meta and headcanons we can get from this information, as well as laugh at a couple of silly plot mistakes. Feel free to message me if there’s anything specific you want to know, I love talking about this topic. Please mind the gap between the train and the platform; this hype train is ready to leave!
This first section pre-games may writing on TEH with some basics of the tube system. If you’re familiar with the tube system, you probably don’t need to read this, but feel free to anyway, I’m not gonna tell you what to do, live your dreams, but here’s you’re warning that this section isn’t really focussed on Sherlock.
Lines
The tube network has 11 official lines, but this is hotly debated amongst the TFL (Transport for London) fandom. Yes, there is such a thing. It’s mostly middle aged men. I’m very out of place there. Without going into deep fandom politics, there are other parts of the transport network which are on the tube map which aren’t underground lines, like the Docklands Light Railway (self-driving overground suburban trains),  the London Overground (like the underground, but…overground) and the Croydon tram network. Don’t get bogged down with those, they aren’t as fun because they aren’t old and in tunnels.
The actual tube lines all have a line name and colour for identification. Here’s some info and stereotypes about each line:
Bakerloo line - Brown - Harrow and Wealdstone to Elephant and Castle
If your grandpa was a tube line, he’d be the bakerloo. Slow, clunky and old, with lots of war stories. He’s trying his best, but it’s not surprising that he sometimes takes the afternoon off.
Central line - Red - Epping to Ealing Broadway/West Ruislip
In the summer, this line is as hot as satan’s crotch, and just as unpleasant. In winter it can be a pleasant refuge from the cold.
Circle line - Yellow - It’s a circle… almost. More like a spiral since it was extended to Hammersmith.
Tourist line. You can’t get on a circle line train without seeing a London guidebook or someone holding a tube map upside down and looking confused.
District line - Green - Where doesn’t this line go? Upminster to Wimbledon/Richmond/Ealing Broadway/Kensington (Olympia)
Take the district line to go the same places as the circle line but avoid the tourists.
Hammersmith & City line - Pink - Hammersmith to Barking
No one even takes this line, idk. They probably got on it by accident.
Jubilee line - Grey - Stanmore to Stratford
BUSINESS MEN AT BANKS AT CANARY WHARF IN SUITS DOING THEIR SERIOUS BUSINESS COMMUTING TO WORK WHERE THEY DO BUSINESS
Metropolitan line - Purple - Aldgate to Amersham/Chesham/Watford/Uxbridge
This line goes all the way to zone 9, where the fuck. It’s more like a commuter train, not really used to get around London itself.
Northern line - Black - Morden to Edgware/Mill Hill East/High Barnet
Just a line. It’s chill.
Piccadilly line - Dark Blue - Cockfosters (ha) to Uxbridge/Heathrow Terminal 5
If you aren’t a true Londoner you take the tube from Leicester Square to Covent Garden, costing you like £3 for a 5 minute walk. This line is famously unreliable, there was a famous incident a couple of years back where leaves on the track broke all the trains.
Victoria line - Light Blue - Walthamstow Central to Brixton
Fast speedy zoom zoom line!
Waterloo & City line - Turquoise - Waterloo to Bank
This line just shuttles between these two stations. What even is the point.
Tumblr media
General Information
Zones are how prices are decided, zone one is central London, the higher the zone number the further into the suburbs.
Station layouts are generally made up of a surface building, a ticket-barrier, and escalators or lifts down to platform level, where there are corridors leading to different platforms and trains.
Fares are paid through contactless card, Oyster card (pre-payment cards, you load them up with money at stations) or occasionally paper tickets, although (contrary to where you might see either use in TBB) most Londoners would use Oyster or contactless.
If you’re struggling with how to pronounce any station names or just want a good time, this is a song with every tube station in it. It’s super cheesy. Have fun.
Trains are different for each line; generally the lines use all the same trains.
The tube network has more overground track than underground; in central London the tube runs underground, but in the outskirts the lines tend to emerge into the open.
Trains usually run every 2-3 minutes, from about 4am to 1am. Some lines run 24 hours on weekends, the Night Tube. Message me if you want more info on that because it’s complicated and unless you need to know about it for an actual reason, it’s not interesting.
Rush hour/busiest times are approximately 7:30-9:00am and 5:00-6:30pm.
The key etiquette rule of the tube: never make eye contact and never speak to people if it can be avoided at any cost.
Next time: John takes the tube to Baker Street. Can we work out where abouts in London John lives with Mary?
Tag stash: tagging a few people who have shown interest in this topic in the past, message me if you want in/out. There’s about 5 more posts on this to come, because I didn’t want it to be one ridiculously long thing...

A Wheeling Legend to Live Again?
It will never be the same again because what we all came to know had to be destroyed in the name of safety. And, while we know a bar and eatery will be recreated on this property, what it will look like remains an unknown and it may be even longer now that the coronavirus pandemic has interrupted, well, everything. But it will not be Ye Olde Alpha, a legendary establishment once with a fairly simple, yet loved menu, and for the kills hanging from its walls. It was known as a “joint” when Frank Miller owned and operated it, and it stayed the same after his passing when his son, Bob, took over operations. Bob, however, suddenly passed away in August 2004, and after his family attempted to keep it going, they decided to sell to partners who kept the name and the décor but made significant changes to the menu. The eatery, however, was shuttered by the Ohio County Health Department in January, and then the new owner, Wheeling Coin, began renovations a month later. The initial goal was to be open again by Nov. 1, but that timeframe has been extended.
Tumblr media
The flooring needed to be removed to be sure the space could be cleaned as much as what was needed.
Right of Passage?
For some who were raised in the area of Edgington Lane, the Alpha was where those 18th birthdays were held because, up until the late 1980s, 18 was the legal drinking age in West Virginia. But for others, it was a treasure found later in life, perhaps during college or even later. “I don't remember hearing anything about the Alpha until I was in college when it was the place to meet up over the holidays,” recalled Christie Campanion-Varnado, a 1986 graduate of Wheeling Park who now lives in Charleston, S.C. “Generations of families would be there -- my parents and their friends, their kids, and eventually the oldest grandchildren. Oh! And the animal heads in the bar,” she continued.  “I remember hearing about them.” It seemed like it was the place to be in Wheeling, said Wheeling resident Josh Wack. “When I was growing up in Wheeling, I always heard stories about the Alpha from my family. My grandfather and uncle, both professors at Wheeling Jesuit, frequented the Alpha quite a bit to socialize with both their coworkers, friends, and students,” he said. “My parents spoke fondly of the Alpha, as well, as they frequented the Alpha when they were first dating. I got the impression very early on that it was a great place to socialize.” But some, for sure, found other establishments more attractive for whatever reasons. “Growing up,” explained Heather Glasser, a 1984 grad of Wheeling Park, “I spent a lot of my weekends and summers in Edgington Lane. I always knew the Alpha to be the place where a lot of families went out for dinner on a regular basis, but my family never did.”
Tumblr media
Yes, that is a Bobcat in middle of what used to be the bar side of Ye Olde Alpha.
That First Time?
The taxidermy. The long bar. Pool tables. And for nearly 20 years, the poker room. That’s when patrons entered through the front door on the left. The door on the right took you to the dining room. Once upon a time ago, the kitchen was in the middle of the two areas but was replaced with a high-top seating area after a new kitchen was constructed in the back. But not everyone waited to visit for that first legal beverage, and that’s because parents were fans of the menu that featured home-cooked comfort food and the best cheese sticks and beer mustard in the history of cheese sticks and beer mustard. “I recall going to eat at the Alpha when I was younger. Specifically eating French fries with gravy, Reuben sandwiches, and olives (maybe from my parents’ martinis), “Wack recalled. “I definitely remember my first time going to the Alpha as a paying/drinking customer. “I was excited to be seen there and felt as though I had been accepted into some kind of cool social club,” he said. “I loved the fact that I was able to see so many people I knew in one small area.” And then, of course, there were the holidays spent home during those college years. “Without a doubt, the Alpha was a holiday gathering place,” he said. “When I was in Cincinnati for college, I never missed a Thanksgiving Eve Alpha night. I don’t think I missed that night until I had kids in my early 30s. After I moved back to Wheeling, I started doing the Christmas Day tradition, which is such a fun time. Without question, the Alpha was the holiday gathering point to reconnect.”
Tumblr media
The seating area connected to the tavern is receiving a complete makeover. But Glasser, who grew up no more than two miles away from the Ye Olde Alpha, did not venture inside 50 Carmel Road until after college. “The first time I actually went there was in my mid-20s. I had met some friends at the bar and sat near the jackalope,” she remembered. “I clearly remember naively believing it was real and was amazed that I had never seen a rabbit with antlers before. “I've actually only had dinner or lunch at the Alpha less than a dozen times and rarely went there on a weekend night out,” Glasser said. “Unlike a lot of people I know, I don't have that same bond with the Alpha as so many of my friends do. I moved away from Wheeling when I was 28 and when I would come home for holidays my go-to was The Swing Club, Claytor's, Office Lounge, the Bridge Tavern, (and) a few other places in Ohio. I just started going there more in the last 10 years than I ever did when I was younger.” Companion-Varnado departed Wheeling for the University of South Carolina to earn her ungraduated and law degrees, and when first returning to her hometown, Mac’s Club in Washington Avenue is where she met her friends. But then, the homecoming spot changed to, yes, the Alpha. “I don’t remember why that happened or what trip home it was, but that’s where everyone was going,” she explained. “And it was that way for a long time until it closed. “But the Alpha was the place to be on Thanksgiving Eve, that’s for sure,” Companion-Varnado said. “It was packed, really packed, every year, but you did get to see so many people from when I lived there, and that was always the best part. It was just like the Rax parking lot when I was in high school.”
Tumblr media
The bar side is the top priority to the new owner of the property so the dining room hasn’t been touched much by the team of construction workers.
Ye Olde Alpha or Carmel Road?
For nearly a century, Ye Olde Alpha was a neighborhood bar nestled in an area that remains retail heavy. Once it included the Rose Bowl, Frank’s Hairquarters, the liquor store, Miklas Meat Market, and the Minute Market. Today, the bowling alley remains, and so does the butcher shop, but now Country Roads Barbecue has transformed the former Minute Market location. Changes has taken place, yes, and more will occur soon, so where will the Alpha regulars go when both the new location is opened at Stratford Springs and the new eatery is operating on Carmel Road? “I have a lot of memories associated with the new location that are incongruous with the Alpha being there. I can't stand seeing that they built a building where the pool used to be,” said Companion-Varnado. “I never went to the Alpha for the food and probably ate there only a couple times, so I can't say whether the food will be a draw for others. It won't be for me. Or for any memories of good service -- it felt nearly impossible to get a drink sometimes. “Beyond that, the location is not a convenient one and won't have the "old neighborhood bar" feel that was part of the Alpha's charm on Carmel Road. I believe that many of us returning to Wheeling from away over the holidays will go to the Carmel Road location to meet up with old friends because it's a habit, as long as the new set up is conducive to that type of gathering. Some of her best memories, Companion-Varnado will realize, never will be the same. “We'll maybe miss the "pure Wheeling-ness" of the old ambience -- the bar entrance where the pay phone was leading to that long narrow space with the dark wood, ancient bar setups, and of course the animal heads,” she said. “But I expect to hear, ‘Let's meet at whatever they are calling the Alpha these days," and everyone will understand that to be the Carmel Road location.” Won’t happen to Wack, though, because the Alpha is the Alpha. “I lived a quarter mile from the old location and considered myself lucky to have such close access, but I’m looking forward to the new location of the Alpha,” he said. “It’s a very cool building and I’ll be interested to see a nice combination of old and new. I have faith that the menu will always be solid, the loyal clientele will always support the business, and Charlie will always find innovative ways to make the experience a unique one.” While Glasser has not been a persistent patron, she believes the love affair to continue as Wheeling makes it work. “I have no doubt that wherever the new location ends up being and whenever it eventually reopens, the place will be successful,” she said. “’It's good people who make good places,’ said Anna Sewell, and  Wheeling is full of great people so you can be sure that they will come together for the new Alpha and make a generation of new lasting memories.” Read the full article

Things You should know about Coaches & Minibus Hire Milton Keynes
Tumblr media
By booking a minibus for your travel can bring many benefits to your trip . It will lower the costs of having to get many vehicles ready for long distance travel, including whether you have set aside a budget big enough for fuel. Lower your expenses by hiring a minibus with driver in Milton Keynes, so that you can all travel together in the one vehicle. You can book them for a weekend or day trips, as well as to sporting events or music festivals. You can hire a minibus to get you to many exciting places.
If you are planning an adventure holiday, such as golfing or cycling, you will no doubt need space to take your extra gear and belongings. If you let the minibus company in Milton Keynes know what you are planning, they will make arrangements to get everything there. Some will have trailers for extra storage space that are great for these types of trips. Minibuses are very spacious, and even though you should stay seated for the entire journey there will still be room if you need to stretch your legs. If you want to stop at a restaurant, pub or other location along the way, just plan it with your driver. After a busy, but relaxing holiday, the last thing you need is to have to drive home again, and plan the journey. Share the budget for your trip with the rest of the group, which will help you to save money.
Minibuses are very clean and stylish. They have great music systems fitted in their vehicles to give you entertainment whilst travelling around. Some even have TVs and DVD players, so you can watch your favourite movies, too. Make travelling easier by booking a minibus with a driver and get to your destination in luxury.
Search around on the internet, or local newspapers for the best local minibus hire company in Milton Keynes. There are plenty for you to choose from, but take Coach Hire Milton Keynes and make sure you get one that is professional when it comes to the care and safety of their passengers. You can even find them at local travel agents. Chances are they will be able to recommend the best for your trip, and your travel plans. Having a company recommended to you means that they will give you the best deal for your budget. Travelling together in large groups also reduces the price as it can be shared out equally among each of the passengers.
Make sure you book your minibus in advance, because you don't want to be disappointed on the day and they have no available vehicles to take you on your trip. Try to have all your plans together if you have a varied itinerary, as this will help the company to plan their routes, to get you to the locations quickly and safely. Plus, having all the information on hand at the time of booking will ensure that there is no confusion on price if last minute arrangements have to be made.
If you're going to take your Minibus Hire Milton Keynes out of the London proper, you're most certainly going to want to take it  town in Buckinghamshire, England. The area has the most fascinating history. Milton Keynes, Much older constituent towns and parishes are incorporated into the borough, like the picturesque Stony Stratford and Bletchley, remembered for the Government Code and Cipher School, which intercepted the Axis Powers’ communications in the Second World War.As a planned town Milton Keynes has a surfeit of greenery, and more than 20 million individual trees
it’s one of the fastest growing ones in Britain. Built in the 1960s to ease London’s housing congestion, it is perfectly equidistant from London, Birmingham, Leicester, Oxford and Cambridge. It was estimated in 2013 to accommodate roughly 255,700 residents. So what’s the 411 on sometime-mocked Milton Keynes? Apart from the famous concrete cows, and arguably excessive use of roundabouts, this town has plenty to offer. You'll definitely find any kind of enjoyment you're looking for and be able to relax and enjoy yourself, which is what you want when on vacation. We Have A Large Fleet Of Minibuses Including 14 Seaters, 8 Seaters And We Even Have Minibus Hire Bicester  And Trailers

53 - The last five months.
Tumblr media
I went back to London! I was tired of Vilnius, the city, the people, the weather, the routine... plus, Easter was coming and it was the first time I would spend a major holiday away from home, some homesickness started to kick in as well. So why not to go a few days to my second home? It had been so long, first time I went back after my year as an au pair there...and as silly as it may sound, I'll never forget the feeling of listening to "Castle on the hill" on the bus that took me from Stansted to the city, or the buzzing vibe I got dropping off at Stratford, and nor even the simple excitement of using my older Oyster card again! I went to the National Gallery for the billionth time, it's one of my favourite places, and I think I got the closest to the Stendhal Syndrome I'll ever be! I felt home, I was surrounded by familiar faces and places. I should also say that going there on vacation didn't feel as good as living there, I've changed and grown up since last time, and in some moments I felt out of place and perhaps a bit lonely too, but still it was a good call to go back in that moment - after the end of my honeymoon phase with the life I was living in Vilnius, those 5 days in London really recharged my batteries for the second half of my EVS! It's said that you should never go back to a place you were once happy, but I think London will always be worth making an exception.
In June I finished my work in school. And when I say finished, I mean it. I learnt everything I could have learnt, and I give everything I could have given! I'm proud of what I achieved... of what WE achieved! My tutor, mentor, the kids... we all feel we did a fantastic job, and I couldn't be happier about it! I'll never forget the laughs, the shared moments... all the times one of my students would literally run from across the street just to say hello on the way back home! The Stranger Things marathon (yes, that happened)! I really left a piece of my heart in that school, I'll never stop feeling speechlessly thankful for the time I spent in there, I'm forever grateful.
Speaking of gratefulness, I'll never be able to repay my host family of all the smiles, hugs, chats, meals and time we shared! They really are special people. Not flawless, but sure better than most. I could actually call their house my home for the five months (and a half) I was there, there had never been a day in which I didn't feel welcomed! Sure living with a host family can be though sometimes (especially one as big, busy and different from mine as them) and it can't and shouldn't be forever, but it was worth it, and I'm looking forward to seeing them again sometime in the future! They made my time there, they truly did.
I travelled. Of course London, Paris, Warsaw, Rome, a bit (a lot, basically every weekend during the last two months there) around Lithuania too. And back to Italy at the end of my EVS, of course! For different reasons, with different people, sometimes with friends and others alone, and I spent way more hours on buses that I would have wanted to... but I felt alive. Citizen of Europe, citizen of the World. Everything I've always wanted! People say travelling is addictive, I can confirm. Not gonna lie, at this point sometimes I feel like I want to stop wandering about, to stop moving abroad or at least to do it for good, to find a more stable job, maybe go back to uni... but not just yet, not just yet 😉
I fell in love with someone. We both did. Some kind of teenage love, sudden and irrational! And at the same time very mature, at least on my side. It really is a beautiful feeling to fall for someone so effortlessly, it was so different from all the drama I had gone through in the past. And for three months I had it all - work, family, friends, and someone to share all my happiness with. Someone to be happy with. We were happy, everyone saw we were so happy! I have the best memories about that time, I'll always love the way he made me feel loved. And then things changed. I've always known it would have had to end at some point, but "some point" arrived earlier than I wanted. We've always known to be different in interests and personality, I knew he wasn't my "soulmate", we never had a future (nor we cared)... but still, all these things were never a problem until they were. To be honest I still have to understand what happened, so I can come to terms with it and move forward, but maybe it's just too soon. I don't know, this experience abroad has been so emotionally intense from start to finish, perhaps I'm just putting everything in this breakup right now. I didn't feel sad when I left Vilnius though I had all the reasons to, maybe it's just all kicking in now. One moment I'm angry, the other I think I'm over it, the next I'm just sad, then numb and then angry back again... you should see my playlists! 🙃 Too soon, too soon. But people say writing about it can help, so here we are. Best way I have to describe what went wrong? We don't speak the same language anymore. Now I can't even understand how we ever did, but sure we don't anymore. We know we both don't want and never wanted to do any harm to the other, and yet at some point everything started to hurt, every action and word misunderstood. Everything made sense till it didn't anymore. It's sad, where should all the love go? What should I do with it? I know breaking up was right, but right doesn't mean good. We were in love and still there's some left, it can't feel good. And here's the paradox - it makes sense that everything ended as suddenly and irrationally as it started, but being the rational person I am, it drives me crazy to not have a reason for what happened. Yes, we both (more or less) made mistakes and I can pinpoint the moments that eventually rushed me to taking that decision, but not the reason behind it. And I just can't stop thinking about it, I can't wrap my mind around it... yet. But I have no regrets. It was so good, simple and beautiful, so for once I have no regrets.
And right after the breakup (like, not even 24 hours later), a dream of mine finally came true. Everything I hoped and worked for during the past years... I made it! I got in! I'm not gonna believe it until I'll actually cross the border (especially since there's a VISA to apply for, and anxious as I am I'm too focused stressing about that for now), but if everything goes well, I'll spend the next year in Brazil! 🇧🇷 Awesome. Fantastic. Crazy exciting! And obviously it deserves its own post, sometime in the future. Not today though, because even if I deserve and should feel absolutely overjoyed about it, right now I'm simply not. I wish I was already, but I'm human and my brain is not made of sealed compartments, so while January seems so far away, what I feel about my breakup right now feels...well, so right now. I deserve to be happy, but I deserve closure first. And luckily or not, there's time - everyone I tell about Brazil to is so enthusiast for me, so happy... and I will too! Not just yet, but I 110% will 🙂
To the next five! 🥂
PS: a special thank you to @contemnitefortunam for not being tired of me yet! 👏 Your support means a lot, thanks for being the best friend! I know I told you before but how can we consider it real before I say it in one of my rambling posts on tumblrdotcom™ ♥️ ti voglio bene!

WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEKEND May 10, 2019  - POKEMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU, THE HUSTLE, TOLKIEN and More
It’s Mother’s Day weekend and while Avengers: Endgame seems to holding strong, we get four new movies in wide release, two of which I’ve seen, both of which are pretty decent. Unfortunately, due to illness, I’m running a bit late on this column, but I’ll try not to cut too many corners.
Tumblr media
The big movie this weekend is POKÉMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU (Warner Bros.), starring Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu and Justice Smith from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, plus the likes of Bill Nighy and Ken Watanabe, the latter who seems to be Legendary Pictures’ go-to Japanese actor. (He’ll be appearing in Godzilla: King of the Monsters later this month.) I’m hoping to still get around to reviewing the movie, but I will say that I generally enjoyed it, even if my connection to the material was the old TV cartoon rather than any of the games. (Look for that review before Friday, if I’m able to get my ass gear. In the meantime, here’s my interview with director Rob Letterman.)
I’ve been interested in the Anne Hathaway-Rebel Wilson comedy THE HUSTLE (U.A. Releasing) since it was called “Nasty Women” and was a straight-up remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, but I just haven’t had time to catch the one press screening, so it looks like I’ll have to catch this sometime down the road.
And then there’s POMS (STXfilms), a new Diane Keaton comedy featuring an ensemble of actresses in their prime, including Pam Grier and Jacki Weaver. While this doesn’t look like my kind of movie, I totally would have gone to see it if I could, but I’m less apt to see it than The Hustle.
Tumblr media
The other movie opening Friday which I’ve seen and enjoyed is TOLKIEN (Fox Searchlight), directed by Dome Karukoski (Tom of Finland) and starring Nicholas Hoult as J.R.R. Tolkien and Lily Collins as his wife Edith Bratt. I’m hoping this finds an audience, even though it’s obviously competing with much stronger and more high-profile films.
Mini-Review: I began to watch this movie with some trepidation, because at least at first, it seemed to be a typical biopic, much like director Dome Karukoski’s previous film. At least as the film began, it cut between Nicholas Hoult’s Tolkien while on the frontlines during WWII and his early schooldays at King Edwards and then Oxford, where he formed a bond with three other students.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure I necessary needed to see a Dead Poet’s Society type way of getting the viewer to know more about the fantasy author, but that’s just a very small part of the film. Where the film really picks up is when Hoult and Collins take over their respective roles, because this is when the romance between Tolkien and Edith becomes a larger part of the story. It’s a bittersweet tale where Tolkien is forced to pick going to Oxford over continuing this romance by Colm Meany’s pries, who has become Tolkien’s guardian after his mother dies suddenly. The majority of the film bounces between Tolkien in the trenches and dealing with school issues, being a poverty-stricken orphan, but he finds an ally in Derek Jacobi’s headmaster.
I’m constantly impressed by what Hoult has been doing as an actor as he gets older, but Collins really brings more to their scenes together than any of the classmates or acting veterans.
Tolkien is a flawed film for sure, but the last half hour is so abundantly full of feels it’s easy to forgive the earlier problems, as Tolkien seeks out one of his school chums on the battlefield, a part of the movie where Karukoski is allowed to shine as a director. (Honestly, I think Steven Spielberg would be quite proud if he made this movie, and that’s saying something.)
I’m not sure this movie will be for everyone, even those who love Tolkien’s work as much as I do, but as a testament to what an amazing life he had before he started writing The Hobbit, it’s quite an amazing story with a worthy film to tell it.
Rating: 8.5/10
You can find out my thoughts on the weekend box office over at The Beat.
LIMITED RELEASES
Tumblr media
There’s actually some decent movies opening this weekend, but the one that I want to give special attention to is John Chester’s doc THE BIGGEST LITTLE FARM (NEON), which is all about how he and his wife Molly left their California apartment living behind to try to develop a 200-acre sustainable farm outside L.A.  For months, my favorite doc of the year was NEON’s Apollo 11 about the 1969 moon launch, but this quickly took it over after I saw it, because it’s amazingly educational in terms of what it takes to make a farm work. It also looks absolutely fantastic, and seeing the trailer in IMAX in front of Apollo 11 made me really want to see it. If you want to see a great doc that hopefully will be in theaters over the summer, then definitely look for this one. I’m sure it will open in a few cities Friday but hopefully NEON will do another great job getting out there as they did with Apollo 11 and Three Identical Strangers last year. This movie is a MUST SEE.
Kenneth Branagh directs and plays William Shakespeare in his new historical movie ALL IS TRUE (Sony Pictures Classics) which also costars Dame Judi Dench and Ian McKellen. It follows Shakespeare on his return home to Stratford after the Globe Theater has burned down, as he tries to reconnect with his older wife (Dench) and his two estranged daughters. This is a fine film if you’re a fan of Shakespeare’s works and were interested in knowing more about his last days, because it features a great script by Ben Elton, and fine performances by Branagh and Kathryn Wilder as his younger daughter Judith, who gets caught up in controversy while trying to find a husband. It will open in New York and L.A. this weekend, and you should look out for my interview with Sir Kenneth over at The Beat in the next couple days.
Opening at the Metrograph this week is Abel Ferrara’s PASOLINI (Kino Lorber), an amazing look at the Italian filmmaker as played by Willem Dafoe. I’m not particularly familiar with Pier Paolo Pasolini’s work, although the Metrograph did a pretty extensive retrospective last year. Like with All is True above, the movie covers the last days in the filmmaker’s life, and it proved to me that Dafoe is doing some of the best work of his career these days and like a few others (Woody Harrelson and Ethan Hawke, for instance), you can put Dafoe in your movie, and it will immediately make it better. I haven’t seen much of Ferrara’s recent work but I feel it’s been a while he’s been at the height of his greatness with Bad Lieutenant and King of New York, so it’s nice to see him creating a new movie in that general vein.  Apparently, Ferrara’s movie premiered at Cannes many, many moons ago, but I think it was a smart move by Kino Lorber to save the movie and give it a release. By pure coincidence… or not… MOMA has been having a Ferrara retrospective (see below), so if you haven’t been able to get up there and see the movie, then you now have a chance with Ferrara and Dafoe doing QnAs after a few showings this weekend.
Matt Smith plays cult leader Charles Manson in CHARLIE SAYS (IFC Films), the new movie from American Psycho and The Notorious Bettie Page director Mary Harron along with her frequent collaborator, writer Guinevere Turner. As a huge fan of their previous moviesand with interest in the subject matter, I’m not sure why I never got around to watching the screener I’ve had for months, but much of it has to do with how generally busy I’ve been. Anyway, it will open in around 35 theaters and be on VOD this weekend if you have similar interest.
Opening at the Film Forum Wednesday is Almedea Carracedo and Robert Bahar ‘s doc THE SILENCE OF OTHERS (Argot PIctures). Executive Produced and presented by Pedro Almodovar, this is an amazing film about the horrendous crimes committed under the Franco regime in Spain by people who were able to get away scott-free when it was decided to create an Amnesty Pact of “Forgiving” after Franco’s death. The thing is that there are people who had been tortured or had loved ones killed who are hoping to get justice or just get their bodies back from mass graves, and this doc covers those amazing efforts. Frankly, I found this film to be far more interesting than Joshua Oppenheimer’s similar films about the crimes by the Indonesian government in The Act of Killing and The Look of Silence.
The Quad Cinema will have two new exclusive releases starting Friday, beginning with Christian Carion’s French thriller MY SON (Cohen Media), starring Guillaume Canet as a man whose son has been kidnapped, so he travels across France to where his ex-wife (Melanie Laurent) lives to try to solve the crime.
Also, the Quad will be showing Nicolas Brown’s doc The Serengeti Rules (Abramorama), which looks at five ecologists who broke new ground with scientific concepts we take for granted, and it looks at how the Serengeti might be the place to look for civilizaton’s sustainable future.
Amy Poehler makes her feature directorial debut with the comedy Wine Country (Netflix), which is getting the usual nominal theatrical release in a handful of theaters but mostly will be on the streaming network. It co-stars long-tie Poehler pals Maya Rudoloph, Tina Fey, Ana Gasteyer and Paula Pell, but I’m excited to see it for Maya Erskine from the Hulu show Pen15 and the upcoming rom-com Plus One, which was one of my favorite movies at Tribeca. (Don’t worry.. I’ve started writing something about that festival, too, so stay tuned!)
Opening in New York at the Cinema Village and in L.A. at Arena Cinelounge is Akash Sherman’s Clara (Screen Media), starring Patrick J. Adams as Isaac Bruno, an astronomer looking for life beyond Earth. This becomes more of a reality when he meets Troian Bellisario’s artist Clara, who shares his interest in space.
After years of problems and lawsuits, Farhad Safinia’s The Professor and the Madman (Vertical) is finally seeing the light of day, no thanks to a lawsuit put on it by star and producer Mel Gibson, who plays Professor James Murray, who begins compiling the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary, receiving 10,000 entries from Dr. William Minor (Sean Penn), who is a patient at a asylum for the criminally insane. I have no idea how bad this movie must be to be buried as long as it has, but it has a great cast including Eddie Marsan, Natalie Dormer, Stephen Dillane, Jennifer Ehle and Ioan Gruffudd, so how bad can it really be? Good luck finding it in theaters but it will prbobably be on VOD as well.
This week’s major Bollywood release is Student of the Year 2 (FIP), directed by Punit Malhotra. As you might guess, it’s a sequel to the 2012 romantic comedy, this one involving a love triangle between a guy and two girls, and it will be released in about 175 theaters on Friday.
STREAMING AND CABLE
Amy Poehler’s directorial debut WINE COUNTRY will begin streaming Friday, though I haven’t seen it yet, so instead, I’ll recommend Dava Whisenant’s fantastic doc Bathtubs over Broadway, which will premiere on Netflix Thursday. I missed this movie last year but I got to catch-up when it screened at the Oxford Film Festival in February, and it’s fantastic. It follows Letterman writer Steve Young as he follows his passion to find rare records featuring industrial musical numbers presented at corporate events throughout the ‘50s and later to energize employees.
REPERTORY
METROGRAPH (NYC):
I’ve already mentioned how Playtime: Family Matineeshas become this cinematic comfort food that’s helped me relive my childhood, but this weekend, the shit gets real as they screen the 1977 action-adventure Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, featuring the stop-motion animation of the late Ray Harryhausen. I still remember first seeing The Golden Voyage of Sinbad at a drive-through in Framingham, Mass. when it first came out and I loved it so much I picked up the novelization. I wonder if I still have that somewhere. (I’m pretty sure I saw this sequel as well.) Late Nites at Metrographwill screen Lukas Moodysson’s 2002 film Lilya 4-Ever, as well as the not old enough to be repertory film Climaxby Gaspar Noe. (Lots of cool movies coming up in this series, as well.) Another series starting Friday is the first-ever New York retrospective of Japanese filmmaker Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, whose new movie Asako I & II will have its theatrical premiere at the Metrograph starting next week. I’m not too familiar with Hamaguchi’s work – though I’ve seen Asakoand generally liked it -- but I don’t think I’ll have the time to see his 5-hour long 2015 family drama Happy Hourany time soon. The series features seven of his movies, almost all of them shorter than Happy Hour. (2012’s Intimacies, showing a week from Thursday, is four hours long.)
THE NEW BEVERLY (L.A.):
After showing the Judy Garland version of A Star is Born  (1954) today at 2pm, the New Bev has double features of Claudia Weill’s Girlfriends (1978) and It’s My Turn (1980), the latter starring Jill Clayburgh and Michael Douglas, on Weds and Thurs. Kathryn Bigelow’s Strange Days (1995) and Lizzie Borden’s 1983 Born in Flames will screen on Friday and Saturday and then the 1933 film Christopher Strong (starring Katharine Hepburn) and Anybody’s Woman  (1930) will screen Sunday and Monday. The weekend’s KIDDEE MATINEE is the animated The Chipmunk Adventure  (1987) while the 1995 anthology Four Rooms (featuring one room by Tarantino) is the Friday midnight and Anna Biller’s 2016 film The Love Witch will screen midnight on Saturday. On top of that, there’s a special Cartoon Club on Saturday morning at 10AM and Gina Prince-Bythewood’s Love & Basketball  (2000) will screen Monday afternoon.
FILM FORUM (NYC):
It’s the last full weekend of Film Forum’s“Trilogies” series and on Thursday, they’re screening Whit Stillman’s (Is this a real title for the trilogy?) “Doomed. Bourgeois. In Love” trilogy Metropolitan (1990), Barcelona  (1994) and The Last Days of Disco (1998) with Stillman doing select intros and QnAs that day. Friday is Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s “BRD” Trilogy, including The Marriage of Maria Braun (1978), Lola  (1981)and Veronika Voss, and this weekend is a Carol Reed Post-War Noir Trilogy, including The Third Man  (1949). Saturday also sees a Michelangelo Antonioni trilogy including L’Avventura  (1960) and two other films from the Italian master. Sunday and Monday sees a very rare screening of Wim Wenders’ “Road Trilogy” including Kings of the Roadfrom 1976 and Alice in the Cities. Also, on Wednesday and Saturday is a repeat of a John Ford trilogy, including Rio Grande and Fort Apache, plus don’t forget the weekend’s family-friendly Film Forum Jr, which this weekend shows a bunch of cartoons from Bugs, Daffy and Friends. Obviously, there’s a lot going on at this venerable NYC arthouse and I hope to get to some of these now that Tribeca is over.
EGYPTIAN THEATRE (LA):
If you live in L.A., you can spend a good part of your weekend at Maltin Fest 2019, taking place at the Egyptian Theater, which includes a really incredible series of screenings and events with special guests. Friday is Nicole Holefcener’s Please Give with Holefcener and frequent collaborator Catherine Keener on hand, plus a screening of Sing Street! Alexander Payne and Laura Dern will be there Saturday afternoon to screen the filmmaker’s early work Citizen Ruth, plus lots more! I also want to pay special attention to them showing the late Jon Schnepp’s doc The Death of “Superman Lives” on Saturday night.
AERO  (LA):
Thursday is a Christopher Munch double feature of The Hours and Times (1991) and The Sleepy Time Gal (2001) with Munch and the great Jacqueline Biset in person! Then it goes right into Starring Europe: New Films from the EU 2019 i.e. new films, not repertory but still interesting.
IFC CENTER (NYC)
Waverly Midnights: Parental Guidance shows James Cameron’s Aliens (okay, am I crazy or do they show this every other month?), Weekend Classics: Love Mom and Dad  shows Martin Scorsese’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974) and Late Night Favorites: Spring is the Coen Brothers’ Fargo (1996).
BAM CINEMATEK (NYC):
In the midst of Black 90s: A Turning Point in American Cinema, which will include Ice Cube’s Friday (on Friday, of course), as well as Set It Off, New Jack City, Belly, Straight Out of Brooklyn and Menace II Society over the weekend. Also, the late John Singleton’s Boyz n the Hood will screen twice on Sunday as well as on Monday as part of the series.
MOMA (NYC):
Abel Ferrara: Unrated continues this week with repeats of 1998’s New Rose Hotel, 1993’s Body Snatchers and more recent films like 2017’s Piazza Vittorio and 2007’sGo Go Tales, and this series will continue next week. The current Modern Matiness will conclude with Pixar’s Up on Wednesday and Vincente Minnelli’s Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) on Weds and Thurs, respectively.
MUSEUM OF THE MOVING IMAGE (NYC):
Panorama Europe continues through the weekend but that’s all new stuff, not repertory.
LANDMARK THEATRES NUART (LA):
Friday’s midnight screening is Wes Craven’s Shocker (1989) with a QnA… but not with Craven.. unless they plan the creepiest movie tie-in possible!
That’s it for this week but next week, we get John Wick Chapter 3 and more!

CANTLON: WOLF PACK START FINAL WEEKEND OF THE SEASON
Tumblr media
BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - The 2018-19 season that started out with so much promise, comes to an end with it being the fifth of the last six springs in Hartford without post-season hockey. The magic of fourteen straight seasons with the Wolf Pack playing post season hockey has long since gone. In its place have come an annual ritual of eerily quiet locker rooms and the omnipresent feel of gloom with the recognition that the roster for 2018-19 does not resemble the one that started or in some cases that ends this season. Friday night is the home finale against the Hershey Bears with the puck drop coming at 7:15 pm on Fan Appreciation night. Then the team travels to Pennsylvania to close things out. Saturday night they will be in Allentown against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and then on to the Giant Center in Hershey on Sunday. The team's record of 29-34-7-3 will again be under .500 for the season. The Pack is 3-6-1-0 in their last ten, currently 40 points behind the division-leading and AHL's best, the Charlotte Checkers, and twenty points behind Hershey, who were below the Pack in the standings on December 1st. The team will be in eighth and last place in the Atlantic Division. Only the Binghamton Devils prevent them from being last in the 16 team conference. The Pack will finish with either the fourth or fifth worst record in the AHL and have the third worst goals against at 2.54. Not a pleasant read. John Gilmour is battling Steven Fogarty for the team scoring title. Gilmour has 54 points and was named to the first team of the AHL All-Stars on Thursday. Gilmour is also in a race with Hershey’s Aaron Ness (51 points), and Zach Redmond of Rochester (50 points) to lead all AHL defenseman in scoring. If he succeeds, after Sunday's games, Gilmour will become only the second player in franchise history to do so.  In 2008-09, Andrew Hutchison was the other. One of the likely 2019-20 roster members will be Nick Jones. In his first six games, Jones has shown elements missing for large chunks of this season in Hartford. He picked up two points last week in a game in Springfield, His first pro goal helped the Pack climb back into the game. “It felt good to get it out of the way and not have to think about it too much. I caught him (Springfield goalie, Chris Driedger) in a weird position and I was able to sneak by the five-hole on him,” remarked Jones. Jones is going through the standard pro-baptism like every college and Junior level player goes through. “There is such a wide range of guys here and it’s a nice organization, happy to be here,” said Jones. He has learned to play with different players very quickly. “Seems like I have a new set of linemates every night and I’m certainly getting a feel for different players. Actually, at North Dakota, I had a lot of different linemates too. It’s nothing new to me." Life at North Dakota saw him get to play at one of the more prestigious hockey programs. He played at the Ralph Engel Arena, one the nicer hockey venues in the country. “It’s a special place. I was very happy and fortunate to play there. The fan base, the culture, and the history it's amazing to play in that arena every night.” The Calgary, Alberta native opted for the college route than major junior. “It gives you more time to develop. I think you don’t finish at 20, just a little later and I think it made a difference for me. I think you get more practice time, get to play against bigger players, which helps when coming to this level. There are a lot of draft picks on the team and in the league, and you get a lot of exposure.“ Jones is completing his degree with a concentration in sociology. Getting his diploma means working on time management. “It’s so different. I’m trying to figure out what do with so much time because I’m running off to class and going to finish things up and head back for graduation next month. His audition thus far looks like Jones will be a major piece of the 2019-20 puzzle for the Wolf Pack. PYATT RETURNS Its been ten long years and a lot of traveling, but ex-Pack forward, Tom Pyatt, finally found himself back in Hartford last weekend with the Utica Comets. He started out his third season in Ottawa but got caught up in in the early season issues of the Senators and was traded to the Vancouver Canucks and found himself back in the AHL with the Comets. He was able to pop in a goal in a 4-0 shutout victory. “I was very excited to play here tonight," Pyatt said. "I was able to walk downtown a bit before the game and it brought back a lot of memories. Time goes by quickly. I was 20-21 years old then, now I’m 32. It’s good to be back." With all his travels as a player, the thought of being back in Hartford wasn't at the top of his mind. “Things go by so quickly. You never know in this business where you might wind up.” Pyatt scored just his fifth goal in 33 games so it meant a lot to him to get on the scoresheet last Saturday. “Its been a while since I scored, so that felt really good. Credit Reid (Boucher). He did all the work on that play. Getting one shorthanded, always a plus. We have gone through a tough month-and-a-half. Between here and the changes in Vancouver, it hasn’t been an easy time. We've stuck together pretty good. It was nice to get Maz (ex-Pack netminder, Marek Mazanec) a shutout. It was one of our better defensive efforts,” Pyatt said, Pyatt and his teammates helped the former Hartford goalie to record his first shutout of the season. Pyatt spent two seasons in Switzerland with HC Geneva-Servette where he was coached by a former New Haven Nighthawk, Chris McSorley. He is currently undecided on his future hockey plans. “I really am not sure. Been a pretty tough season. I started out my third year in Ottawa and halfway through changed my address. I really enjoyed my experience over there in Europe. I’m just looking to finish out this season and take some time off and think over the summer back in Thunder Bay and enjoy the family, enjoy the house and then make a decision later in the summer." When he was a member of the Wolf Pack, Pyatt took an extended period to help his middle brother, Taylor Pyatt, who had lost his then-fiancee, Carly Bragnalo, as a result of a car accident in a cab in Jamaica. She was just 27-years-old. Time has been a great healer. “It was great. I got to play with him in his last year of pro in Switzerland. That was a lot of fun. Now, he is a Dad with a two-year-old girl. I was in Hartford back then and took time off. It was a hard time for him. He got married again, and man how time flies, but things are all good for him now.” In his time in Hartford, Pyatt was a very underappreciated player by the Rangers. He went on to rack up nearly 500 NHL games in other places like Montreal, Ottawa, and Vancouver. “When you're that young, you don’t appreciate the breadth of the game. I’ve had a lot of different experiences, but I got it all started here. It takes a few years to develop. I had two good years here and enjoyed my time here." Hopefully, Pyatt has a few more years of service as he's one of the true good guys in hockey. NOTES: Former UCONN defenseman, and their team captain, Derek Pratt, who played in the Wolf Pack training camp, and was later recalled from Maine, but never played here signed a PTO deal with Utica for the final AHL regular season weekend. The Pack released defenseman Matt Register after five undistinguishable games where he added an assist and five shots on goal. He was returned to the Toledo Walleye (ECHL). Quinnipiac’s Scott Davidson signs with the AHL’s best team, the Charlotte Checkers. He brings the number of Division I college players that have signed pro contracts to 155 and the total number of college players to 174. Ex-Pack, Chris McCarthy, who spent all season with the Reading Royals (ECHL) signs a PTO deal with Hershey. Former Yale Bulldog, Mike Doherty, goes from Manchester Monarchs (ECHL) and signs a PTO deal with the Providence Bruins. Another former UCONN player, Joseph Masonius, was released after twelve games with Manchester (ECHL). He's had a long season. Masonius was cut from the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins after (AHL) camp. He was sent to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL). His contract was brought out so he then played one game with the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) before being released. Pro hockey is a tough business. Stratford native, Jamie Sifers, played his high school hockey at Fairfield Prep and Salisbury Prep (winning titles at both schools). He was in the opening lineup last weekend for Utica. He announced he will retire after this weekend after playing in 640 AHL games and compiling 167 points. Sifers won a Calder Cup with Lake Erie (nee Cleveland) in 2016 and had 37 NHL games with Toronto and Minnesota. He also spent three seasons in the German DEL league after a four-year college career at the University of Vermont. Ex-Pack Bert Robertsson gets his first head coaching gig in Sweden after seven years as an assistant coach at Skelleftea AIK in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He will be the head coach of Linkopings HC in the fall. Congrats to ex-Pack and ex-Ranger, Dane Byers, truly one of the nicest players ever to come through the Connecticut capitol city. He has announced his retirement from hockey after completing a second season with the Manchester Storm (England-EIHL) where he was their team captain. He tallied 29 goals and 55 points in 56 games and 182 PM. He had 11 games in England 53 goals and 125 points and 289 PM Byers played for the Wolf Pack for three-and-a-half years. He was the captain for two-plus years. Byers was the last captain before the ill-fated switch to the CT Whale brand. He was the first Wolf Pack captain ever traded, albeit at his own request, and ironically his first game was with the then Springfield Falcons in Hartford two days later on November 12, 2010. In 255 games in Hartford, Byers scored 72 goals had 90 assists for 162 points and racked up 546 PM. He was a captain with Hershey and Springfield, plus he was an assistant captain at Oklahoma City. In 564 AHL games, Byers had 128 goals and 304 points and 1,245 PM. He played with San Antonio too. In just 14 NHL games he scored one goal with the Rangers and had 60 PIM. He was an assistant captain for the Lahti Pelicans (Finland-FEL) for one season. His brother Cole Byers played in one Wolf Pack training camp with him. He is the cousin of legendary Bruins ruffian, Lyndon Byers. His wife Ashley and their three sons are moving back to his native province of Saskatchewan and taking a job outside of hockey. The IIHF Division 2 Group A World Championships are underway in Belgrade, Serbia with Cheshire, CT native, Rob Malloy, playing for the third time for the Australian National Team. In their first game, Malloy tallied the second goal at 2:58 of the first period just 1:27 after Australia struck first. The Mighty Roos dropped the opener in overtime to Belgium 4-3, but they won their second game, 3-2 over host Serbia. The key came in killing off a major penalty late in the second period and early third period to preserve their first win. The Australian team shutout Spain 4-0 in their third game. Malloy was helped on their first tally, a power play goal, at 13:01 of the opening frame. Switching off with Jamie Woodman at the right point, Malloy headed to the left side of the net. Woodman’s right point shot was redirected by Malloy but was stopped by Spain goalie Ander Alcaine. However, the rebound was the right there for AIHL top scorer Darge Wehebe to bang the rebound at the right side of the net. Vadim Virjassov and Kieren Webster each had a goal and an assist for Australia including beautiful play on the fourth goal with Webster intercepting a Spanish outlet pass and sent a great behind the back pass to Visjassov and finished it with a forehand to backhand lifted over a prone Alcaine with 5:50 left in regulation. The other countries in the six-team group are Serbia, Belgium, Croatia, Spain and China. The only other familiar name is former NHL first round pick for Boston and AHL’er, Shaone Morrison is skating for Team Croatia after playing the regular season with the Oji Eagles (Japan-ALIH). -When Malloy returns for the start of AIHL (Australian Ice Hockey League) season he will see a CT face face in the lineup against him with the Melbourne Ice. Former UCONN player Jesse Schwartz who played this season with Roanoke Valley (SPHL) and a  two game recall to Brampton (ECHL) become the third university player to play in the AIHL (Matt Grogran and Trevor Gerling were the others). -The short season South African Super League (SASL) has a new champion in year four of the league as the Cape Town Kings finished with the best regular season record winning all eight games and outscored their opponents 61-26. The leagues’s leading scorer is a former US Division III college player (Nazarethy College-UCHC) Uthman Sammal with 32 points in those eight games. The Pretoria Capitals finished in second place. FUCK MY LONDON
Tumblr media
Hermit's Cave. Sniff in the bogs. Fucking stinks in here. Camberwell Road. Corrib Bar. Watching football. Landlady said we were welcome back but not to bring any black people with us. Not in those words. Never went back. Walking past venues I played in that are no longer there. Rhythm Factory. Whitechapel Road. Round the corner. Used to be able to buy hash. Private member's club. Pool table. Foreign students. Building gone. Pint in the Castle. One end of Brick Lane. £2 in my pocket. Other end. Got food. Zoot. Beer. Still had some change. In my day this was all fields. Stewart Home. This is my home. I want to leave. Leave home. Chemical Brothers. Prodigy. Brixton Academy. No drugs. 13. Wouldn't go to see either of them now. Fuck them. Tried to get into the 4 Aces. Dalston used to scare the shit out of me. Me and Andrew went to buy an ounce and got robbed. Clapton Square. Got away with the weed but Andrew got his phone and ring nicked. Andrew convinced it was a set up. I'm still not sure. Arrested for criminal damage and possession at Caledonian Road & Barnsbury Station. The free line. Graf everywhere. Me and Mark. He was already on doing more serious stuff. Getting banged up for writing would've been silly. Bumped into him on Cambridge Heath Road. Years later. He was in an X5. Little gaff out in Essex. Kid. Still moving food but not touching it if you get what I mean. Born in Walworth. First wave gentrification. Sitting out in the garden at 6am sharing a joint with one of the Birmingham Six. Reading Ballard. Under the Westway. Subterranea. Black Star and Company Flow. MCD and Scratch Perverts supporting. Mainly crushing fucking boredom though. Africa Centre. Hour of jungle at the end of Funkin' Pussy. Listening to Rudimentary Peni. Carcass. Blak Twang. Rodney P. Heartless Crew. Upfront FM. Fuck it. Listing stuff. I'm sitting in the Barbican. Working. Listening in to an American man having a conversation with an English woman. I sort of hate them. They are probably alright. Vacuous pricks. The lot of us. St James' C of E primary school. Bermondsey. Jamaica Road. Everyone white. Almost. Everyone racist. Almost. What the fuck happened there? Used to play out on the Arnold Estate near the community centre my mum helped found. Found a load of porn out back. Awakenings. You can get a St John Bakery custard donut there now. Arches used to be full of garages. Cut and shut. Dennis was a ticket tout. Got us tickets to the '93 Semi-Final. In the fucking Spurs end. I was in an Arsenal shellsuit. Scarf. Cap. Got let in the Arsenal end. Grew up watching Palace. Everyone at school was Millwall or Liverpool. Why the fuck do I support Arsenal? Questions. Didn't grow up but I got old. Long nightwalks. Getting robbed in broad daylight on my own street. Kids from Kid's Company. Wallet full of cash I couldn't really tell anyone about. My sister wanted to go down there with a kitchen knife. In the end they apologised. Sent a cheque. We all make mistakes. Always carry a glass Lucozade bottle. Middle class grunger to middle class wannabe badman but I never wanted to be anything. Books. So many books. Art was everywhere. Went to Sensation. Load of shit obviously but exciting. Southbank. Mid to late 90's. Never skated. Legendary names. Benjobe. Tom Penny. Hardcore. Hip-hop. Rapping. Kope was working at A1 Stores on Wooly. Bag full of spraypaint. I never painted. Different sort of writing. Exploration. I'm not an urban explorer. Follow the Thames. Richmond to Teddington. Tower Bridge to East India Dock. Trinity Buoy Wharf. Sitting in a lighthouse all day. Hungover. Got chased through Broadway Market. Years before the farmers showed up. London is tiny if your postcode limits your movement. Escape. Fiction is liberating. The truth won't set you free. George Davis is innocent. Frankie Fraser on the 12 bus with his little dog. Chatting to my mum. Richardson's club house and torture chamber on a quaint little square just off Camberwell Road. Pet shop that used to stink of skunk. Dangerous dogs out front. This is what you're moving into. The ghosts will catch up with you. The past is never really the past. I'm past it. Read too many conspiracy theories. Canary Wharf as a beacon of occult energy. Hawksmoor Churches. All mainstream. Pick up the info in Waterstones in the London section. Make up your own myths. Smoking DMT in Blythe Hill Fields. London breathing. Viewpoints. Greenwich Park. Primrose Hill. Parliament Hill. Lunchtime. Out of the stockroom. Packing records all day. Enough to make you hate music. Where's the glamour? Guestlist is standard. Why the fuck would you pay to watch music? I still love it. Astoria. Gone. Plastic People. Gone. We went downstairs and when we went back out everything was covered in snow. Walking back. D Double E and Footsie. Legends. Tubby on decks. I think. All blends into one. But the snow. That happened. Stayed in Hackney. Walked back along a white carpet. These moments we live for. Put up with all the shit. I never really took photos. Stopping traffic at Elephant & Castle roundabout after getting run over. Black cab driver wanting to make sure I was alright. Asked what football team I support. Told him. Said he'd leave me in the road if it was up to him. Banter. Fucked up my Helly Hansen. Driver had no insurance. I told him to drive off but everyone made him stay. Writing is alchemy. You don't have to believe me. Planning is alchemy. London is being remixed. New block of flats named after the pie and mash shop on Westmoreland Road. Some attempt at continuity. Don't worry about me. It's everyone else. The search for authenticity is futile. Tayyabs. Lahore. Needoo. The holy trinity. But don't kid yourself. You can't eat your way to an understanding of lived experience. I'm sitting across the road from Madame Tussauds. This is authentic London even if you think it isn't. Some of my best friends are northerners. GO HOME. Get out while you can. I grew out of the fear of other areas. I moved. I walk from Lesnes Abbey to Grove Park on the Green Chain with my uncle. I walk from Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace on the Parkland Walk with my girlfriend. I walk from Limehouse Basin to Island Gardens to Greenwich to Southwark Park with my mate. I walk from my flat to Walthamstow Marshes via the Olympic Park with myself. Memories shadowing every step. An egret and a heron near Stratford Westfield. I'm convinced we're all going to die in a shopping centre. Kingdom Come. Every witness appeal tells a story. Pain. Tragedy. I was watching Therapy? at Brixton Academy when the second riot happened. A venue full of pale faced teenagers insulated from an outpouring of justified anger. I performed with the guy who is supposed to have started the first Brixton riot. When the whole city rioted I walked up the back of Walworth Road watching kids hide stuff in bins. No one even noticed me. This is England. Wembley. Norway. Such a terrible match. The people behind me and my dad making monkey noises whenever Paul Ince touched the ball. Turned me off England for life. I couldn't even enjoy Euro '96. Arch contrarian. Of course I disagree. Got my bank account emptied and lost about £140 of other people's money getting robbed on Churchill Estate. Never trust someone who has just come out of prison for kidnap who says they can get some good food for a good price. Lesson learned. Two kids on the N68 tried to move me up. This was much later. I was wearing a Stone Island. I think they thought I was balling. I'd spent the night doing other people's sniff. I had a shit phone and an Ipod. I explained. We left on good terms. Lesson learned. Even where I used to sign on is gone. RIP Camberwell Job Centre. I fucking hated you but I miss you. Monday night football at the Petchey Academy saved my life. Made me a better person. The Shacklewell before it was cool. When it was cool. Saw Rodigan out back. Felt like a proper shubs. The Haggerston when it was Uncle Sam's. Live jazz. Terrible pints. Sitting in a Polo. UKG. Smoking draw. Just driving around. My room in the attic full of smoke. Entire house stinking. So many lost years. Round to Len's after a night out. Get the chop out. Staggering home. 8am. Mouth so dry. Lying in bed. Zoot in the ashtray. Bottle of water. Normal weekend. The Gramaphone. Commerical Street. Gone. Rushing. Hudson Mohawke and Rustie. Insanely strong pills. Up to the tubes for a weird after party. Everywhere will go soon. Corsica Studios. Summer of ket. Spangled in the smoking area. That rave in Hackney Wick. Bouncer wearing a bally. I was sick into a ballon. I was falling in love. Never wanted a relationship before that. Football. Drugs. Music. Books. Art. Masturbation. Very occasional sex. That was enough for me. I was kidding myself. Obviously. You pick and choose memories. You order the moments. You try to create a coherent picture. There is no coherent picture. Nothing to see here. Move along. First football match. Palace. Millwall. Punch ups in the family enclosure. Scary as fuck. LOVED IT. Grown men screaming cunt. Just got a text saying Whitechapel Bell Foundry is closing. My London is over. Fucked. Done. You can keep it. Do what you want with it. I don't care. If I don't care then why am I crying?
THE CUNTS, FREAKS, CRIMINALS, BOHEMIANS, NAZIS, NUTCASES, IMMIGRANTS, COMMIES, TRAMPS, ARTISTS, VANDALS, MUSICIANS, SHOTTERS, MIDDLE CLASSES, WHITES, BLACKS, WORKING CLASSES, TOFFS, GAYS, CHANCERS, BANKERS, BARROW BOYS, STALLHOLDERS, STAKEHOLDERS, LADS, CASUALS, RUDEBOYS, ANARCHISTS, BELL MAKERS, DRUGGIES, BARISTAS, RAVENS, BEEFEATERS, TOURISTS ETC. ARE ALL GONE. DONE. FUCK MY LONDON.

14 Ice Cream Spots You Don’t Want To Skip This Summer added to Google Docs
14 Ice Cream Spots You Don’t Want To Skip This Summer
A perk that comes with living in a city that has roughly one week of sun a year, is that you learn not to let the weather dictate when you can and cannot have an ice cream. It’s called being adaptable, look it up, Then add it to your CV under organised and perfectionist. With that said, we’re not going to deny that sun and ice cream are an unbeatable combination, so here are our favourite places to get ice cream during that one week of sun.
Featured In Your (Socially-Distanced) Summer Get all the guides the spots  Unico ££££ 37 Pembridge Rd
We don’t know a word that starts with unico that doesn’t bring a smile to our face. And it’s no different with this Italian caffe. With locations in Notting Hill, St John’s Wood, Fulham, and Bromley, you can get some of the creamiest gelato in London to go. You shouldn’t miss the classics like pistachio and hazelnut, but you should also keep an eye on their gourmet flavours like panna cotta, and rum chocolate. They’re also delivering tubs from all four locations.
 Bake £ £ £ £ Cafe/Bakery ,  Ice Cream  in  Chinatown ££££ 9 Wardour Street
The soft serve at Bake is fantastic. This old-school bakery in Chinatown serves a wide range of pastries, and they’re also known for the taiyaki - a Japanese fish-shaped waffle situation - which they also happen to use as the cones for their soft serve. You can go for the matcha, vanilla, or a mix of both, but when the cone’s this good, we’d keep it simple with the vanilla.
Fouberts ££££ 2 Turnham Green Terrace
This family run gelateria and all-round wholesome cafe/restaurant/bed & breakfast in Chiswick has been serving its ice-cream since 1978. You can get delicious sorbets, ice-creams and some top quality banter from owners Maria and Luciano. Walk-ins are welcome, but you can also order for collection, or delivery to certain postcodes in West London. And they have two other stores in Fulham and Kensington.
Mamasons ££££ 91 Kentish town road
It’s a fact that anything you put inside a milk bun becomes roughly ten times more exciting to eat. And the ice-cream at this Filipino spot in Kentish Town comes in a number of different flavours like ube (purple yam), milo (chocolate malt), and black buko (black coconut), all of which can be eaten in bilog form. Which is basically a pandesal ice-cream sandwich. And we’re into it. They do also serve their ice-cream in scoops if you’re more into a classic cone situation.
 Gelupo £ £ £ £ Ice Cream ,  Italian  in  Soho ££££ 7 Archer St
The team who run Bocca Di Lupo are also behind this ice cream shop in Soho, which means you know it’s going to be good. But it’s not just good, this gelato is excellent, with flavours like honeycomb, malted milk stracciatella, and tiramisu served until 10pm. They also deliver half-litre tubs across London.
La Gelatiera ££££ 17 Topsfield Parade
This Crouch End gelato spot might not win any prizes for having an imaginative name, but that should absolutely not stop you from heading down. All of their branches (they’re also in Covent Garden and Stratford’s East Village) serve a seasonal selection of small-batch gelato which they produce daily. Flavours like honey, rosemary, and orange zests, and basil and chilli will knock your standard go-to mint choc chip clean out of the water, and their white chocolate and pistachio is a thing of local legend. They also do a great line in vegan sorbet, and you shouldn’t snooze on the Alphonso mango if it’s on.
 Romeo & Giulietta £ £ £ £ Ice Cream  in  Stoke Newington ££££ 137 Albion Rd
It’s your classic love story. Cream meets a freezer, they have beautiful gelato babies. The rest, as they say, is history. That’s what Shakespeare was on about right? This artisan gelateria in Stoke Newington serves some wonderfully creamy gelato. There are plenty of options like white chocolate, hazelnut, and ricotta with caramelised figs, but if the biscokrok is on you shouldn’t hesitate to get it. Plus, the black cherry praline is some of the best vegan gelato we’ve tried. Don’t miss the mini ice cream cones that you can use as a spoon, which is basically the single most useful invention since someone came up with big ice cream cones.
Giulia Verdinelli Milk Train £ £ £ £ Ice Cream  in  Covent Garden ££££ 12 Tavistock St
The candy floss ring around Milk Train’s ice cream cones is a good way to make sure whoever you’re with keeps a social distance from your ice cream. Plus, the ice cream tastes very good. Specifically the cookies and cream flavour. And if you’re a go-hard-or-go-home kind of person (our kind of person) then make sure to add mini Oreos on top. They’re only open on the weekends for now, but have recently launched a nationwide ice cream delivery service.
 Oddono's Gelati £ £ £ £ Ice Cream  in  Stoke Newington ££££ 42 Stoke Newington Church Street
Oddono’s is the girl next door of ice cream shops. Unpretentious, charming, and everybody loves it. It’s the kind of place where you go in for an innocent ice cream, and leave knowing that you will probably be returning at least once a week. The sorbets are good, particularly the mango, but the ice creams are where it’s at. Basically, if you go without trying the hazelnut and cookies and cream then you’re doing it wrong. There are branches in Stoke Newington, South Kensington, Battersea, Hampstead, East Dulwich, Chiswick, and Wimbledon, plus, you can get it delivered if you live near any of those locations.
GAZA Café ££££ 47 Greek St.
You remember when you were young and naive - approximately two-weeks ago - and you used to eat crushed ice to help you cool down? Well this Korean Bingsoo spot on Greek Street is making flavoured crushed ice. OK, so it’s actually shaved ice, and it’s topped with things like condensed milk or fruit syrup and your choice of sweet stuff, like Oreos, fresh mango, and strawberries. So really it’s nothing like your crushed ice phase, but you get the idea. There’s seating downstairs if you want to eat in, but you can get it to takeaway. P.S. we’d go for the Oreo.
Soft Serve Society £ £ £ £ Ice Cream  in  Shoreditch ££££ box park #35
This Boxpark Shoreditch spot has some mildly insane, sugar attack candy floss toppings on offer, but we prefer to keep things on the simple - and cheaper - side with the classic cone and matcha soft serve. This place also does freakshakes that, frankly, we’re not sure how you eat without a blowtorch and a machete, but they’re potentially worth keeping in mind if you’re a serious sugar fan.
Chin Chin Laboratories £ £ £ £ Ice Cream  in  Camden ££££ 49-50 Camden Lock Pl
Much like algebra, quantum physics, and Kevin Federline’s wrestling career, we don’t entirely understand Chin Chin Labs. More specifically, we don’t know how they make their ice cream. We do know that it involves nitrogen, and, you know, science. Regardless, however they do it, it’s excellent. It’s super smooth and although they don’t serve your classic flavours like vanilla or strawberry, there are plenty of interesting options from vegan passionfruit kombucha to burnt butter caramel, as well as ice cream sandwiches. As well as offering weekly ice cream shipments right now, they also have outposts in Soho and Shoreditch
Amorino ££££ 55 Long Acre
Being given a rose is cool and all, but have you ever been given a rose you can eat? You’ll never be happy with a basic rose again. Global ice cream chain Amorino has spots dotted all over London, over 20 flavours to choose from, and gives you the freedom to pick as many as you want. The sorbets are great, the stracciatella is great, and the fact that they shape it into a rose is just the aesthetically-pleasing cherry on top. FYI, they’re also delivering tubs and gelato macaroons all over London if you check out your usual delivery apps.
Ruby Violet £ £ £ £ Ice Cream  in  Tufnell Park ££££ 118 Fortess Rd
Ruby Violet might sound like the protagonist of a Tracey Beaker spin-off but it’s actually a particularly cute ice cream parlour in Tufnell Park. Ice cream is available as pre-packaged pots right now at both their Tufnell Park HQ and in King’s Cross, and they’re also doing delivery.
