Alright, here's the design stuff:

I wanted to go for kind of a Lois Lane vibe, including the way she gets all the way up in business she should not be up in. At the same time I wanted to bring the super cutesy gothic lolita style in at least a little. So I ended up going with a poofy short jumpsuit with bows and teddy bears. I would love to make a specific thank you to @themooncallsyou for suggesting I look at the Moschino 2022 spring line for inspiration, it ended up having a very heavy impact on the final design.

I tried to lean into the investigative part of investigative reporter, so that's what the heavy coat is about. I thought adding that classic detective silhouette would be a nice final touch. Plus, I think Blondie likes the drama of the coat flying behind her as she's chasing down a lead. It makes her feel very cool.

Alright, so her original pet is a bear cub named Grizz but I have. Several problems with that. The main one is that it's not clear what the difference between Grizz and the actual sentient bears and her story is. There is never any differentiation between them. It's a Goofy-Pluto situation. Like it doesn't need to be explained, but the minute you start thinking about it too hard it gets weird real fast.

Anyways say hello to Honey the magpie!! Magpies are great mimics and lovers of shiny things, so I thought one would be a perfect fit for Blondie. She repeats bits of gossip and steals little trinkets and clues to help Blondie with whatever case she's on. Honey is where Blondie gets her infinite supply of bobby pins. Her scale is a little off, I don't think magpies are actually that big, but I still think she's cute so I'm not changing it now lol.

Now for character stuff:

Honestly I'm not really changing anything as much as I am exploring what's already there. I think Blondie has the potential to be really interesting, because she's unique within the class system of the school. She's kind of the inverse of Raven status-wise. Raven was born to royalty, but because her mom is the Evil Queen she's actually considered a commoner by society. Blondie was born to a wealthy commoner family, but her fear of rejection leads her to exaggerate the prestige of her lineage. Everyone sort of knows that she's not a Princess but she's so desperate to keep up the image of royalty that no one knows where she actually lands. Most of the royals assume her parents are Lord and Lady or Duke and Duchess or something. In reality they don't have any noble title, and Blondie is very insecure about that.

Blondie isn't so much ashamed of her family as she is terrified of exclusion and rejection. Her standing in society is the one major thing that makes her different from all the other royals, but she has major anxieties that she's always on thin ice. In her mind she's permanently one wrong step from total ostracization.

On a happier note, she does have a genuine passion for journalism! She considers her news blog/podcast practice for her future career. She starts out discussing school drama and gossip, but tries to stay a neutral third party. That's why her hair is so big. It's full of secrets. As the story goes on she starts reporting on more political and social topics beyond the boundaries of the school (and therefore becomes one of Milton Grimms worst nightmares). She is really, really, really good at getting into shit people do not want her to get into. She's got her eyes on prize and good luck stopping her

harpy aventurine headcanons

@c00kieguy and his aven boss form thigh art got me thinking about my harpy aventurine hcs again, which actually evolved from a conversation about fucking boss form aven

contains mostly sfw but does discuss his ruts. i'm mosy yapping to get my thoughts out before I get into the finer details of my harpy!aven smut. dividers by cafekitsune

side note: while gender is not explicitly mentioned, I do write aventurine with exclusively male and gender neutral partners. so this is more leaning towards mlm/nblm content than anything. it's also not necessarily x reader or ship content, moreso just general headcanons, but there are references to his partner. also if you want to bitch and complain about how I write aven as being and make him chubby with estrogen tits, go argue with a wall I really do not care

aventurine's harpy form is the result of him using his cornerstone, giving him some.... unusual birdlike qualities. he isn't a full harpy a majority of the time, only at specific moments does he actually fully shift into a harpy (eg. rut, danger). most of the time, he just has small, soft feathers on his neck and chest that puff out rather animatedly. he gets the occasional peacock tail feathers growing from his scalp, forming a sort of underlayer of sorts for his hair. they usually get to about shoulder blade length before being shed.

harpy aventurine stands at about 7'6", mostly being legs but he does bulk up a bit. his human body remains mostly the same, chubby with soft tits from his low dose estrogen, but it is covered in short, soft dull, downy blue-green feathers. his legs are strong and thick, a royal blue-green shade with yellow talons that replace his feet. it's the same for his arms in that regard, covered in royal blue-green downy feathers and ending in hands turned yellow talons. there's a few longer feathers that grow from his biceps, but nothing that would allow him to fly. his feathers end at about mid chest, turning back into his usually rosey copper skin.

due to his low dose estrogen, he grows the occasional brown feathers and his plumage tends to not be as stand out as most male peacocks. but it is still impressive, regardless.

he can't hide his emotions anymore. at all. bit embarrassed? throat and chest feathers are puffed up. angry? whatever plumage he has at that time is puffing up defensively. he's already a naturally expressive guy, but his new feathers make it oh so much worse. it's bad when topaz decides to tease him playfully

he's picked up some bird like noises too, mostly cooing and squawking when he's surprised. his coo is very soft and hard to hear, mostly coming out when he's tired and waiting for his partner to go to bed. it's also a self-soothing thing for him, cooing when he happens to get especially stressed or anxious about something.

aven picked up a weird habit following the transformation. now instead of going to bed when he's tired, he'll sometimes just sit up straight and puff out his neck and chest feathers and doze off that way, cooing the entire time. this is mostly done when he's waiting for his partner to go to bed, or he's trying to fight off sleep for some reason or another.

he's also taken up a bad habit of nesting and being especially protective of his partner. whether it's from his experience in penacony or the bird like qualities, it's honestly hard to tell. but his bed will frequently consist of the softest blankets and some piece of clothing that his partner smells like.

self care has always been important for him, but it is especially important now. even though he doesn't have talons in his usual day to day life, he still gets scale like growths on his hands and feet. moisturizer is a big deal for him, constantly keeping his on hand to use whenever. if he itches, he tends to bleed. if his partner is comfortable handling it, he'll have them take care of his scratches as a form of sort of quiet love and devotion.

please cup his face and give him behind the ear scratches. he'll melt into a puddle of soft cooes and fall asleep immediately.

harpy aventurine though.... that's a whole different beast, literally.

all of his birdlike behaviors are magnified by like 100x. get ready for an especially clingy and overprotective aventurine.

because he's usually in his harpy form for his rut, he does not want his partner to leave him for longer than like five minutes. working from home? you've got this big ass harpy hanging over your shoulder or forcing you back into the "nest" he's made for you (it's something of a pillow fort with comforters). ordering something? please apologize to the terrified pizza delivery guy because your boyfriend is glaring at him over your shoulder.

also, ruts usually mean that he's kicking the AC down as much as possible. it's genuinely to keep him from overheating and being too irritable, but it does serve as a good excuse to keep his partner in bed as much as possible.

remember how i said that he's 7'6"? yeah good luck getting out from underneath him when he decides it's nap time and your chest is the best place to sleep. will take up his partner's entire bed happily.

massive thighs in his harpy form. likes to perch somewhat creepily as well... has fallen off the back of the sofa a couple of times while getting used to it

his eyes glow. it's more noticable at night or in the dark ofc, but they've always got this somewhat predatorial glow to them.

coming out of his rut is not a fun experience for him, especially if he fucked to get out of it. he'll be down and out for the entire day, sleeping in his bed. he's especially delicate during this time, needing quite a bit of reassurance from his partner. and while his bedding may be destroyed or dirty, he refuses to change them until he's completely out of his rut headspace.

the other Stonehearts are keeping a close eye on him, mostly to observe any possible changes they may face if using their own cornerstone. it's not unusual for his partner to get a semi serious, semi joking "hey, he hasn't killed or tried to kill anyone yet, right?"

I most often describe Sage as a bitch with a heart of gold, but honestly her heart is more silver. She doesn't have bad intentions ever, but it doesn't necessarily mean she has good ones, either. Sage is kind of... a true neutral on the scale? Unless you're one of her people, she doesn't really care what happens to you. But if you are one of her people she'll fight to the death for you. She doesn't really believe in good versus evil or have much faith in people as a whole, and she not easy to impress or win over. She's nice enough to her fans and those who look up to her, but she'll be the first person to tell you that she's not a role model. Sage won't censor herself for anyone. But when faced with something she wants or believes in, you'll be hard pressed to prove her wrong... but she's really achieved most of her goals already.

one of the first steps to overcoming something is to admit it. my mom was pretty adamant about this to me growing up, if i didn’t admit i had a problem, how was i supposed to solve it? it makes perfect sense, and i agree wholeheartedly. over the course of my life i've gotten better at admitting my faults, god knows im still a stubborn bitch, but i have continually tried to overcome that in the pursuit of bettering myself. recently i’ve come to terms with what could be considered the root of many of my vices.

i hate myself.

what a phrase. honestly, with the frequency this expression is used, it has lost much of the kick that should technically go along with an honest admission. so for the sake of clarification, this is not something i mean lightly. i truly hate myself.

what determines this hate one may ask? is it rooted in physical appearance or lack of skill in certain areas? perhaps in guilt or maybe shame? while all of these things can be seen as factors, it really simpler as that. i hate life, and therefore i hate myself for living it. i’m sure there was a time growing up where i enjoyed being alive. a time when i could have genuinely said that i would not trade it for death, a time when i may have even been scared of death. this time has come and gone though, and somewhere along the last six years or so i have shifted into a lifestyle where i simply tolerate being alive. i have at times been extremely suicidal, even in my drakest moments actually making an attempt or being dangerously close to it, but those moments are few and far between. in general i just am neutral to the idea of living. getting out of bed in the morning is a chore, eating is even worse, and maintaining a social life could be the worst of all. i sludge myself up everyday and get these things done, and it’s not like i find no enjoyment in things, because there are things that make me happy. the way i look at things is as if they were weighed on a scale. one side holding my will to live, and one side holding my desire to die. positive things generally find themselves in the will to live category, while negative fill the latter. but unfortunately, no matter how many good things are piled on, they never seem to outway their dreaded counterpart. almost as if someones placed a hand on that side, pushing to keep the scales from tipping. though, as illustrated with this analogy, there are many positives. and while those things don't make me want to live per say, they make it tolerable. which is all i can ask for at this point

i remember the first time i ever seriously longed for death. i think i was twelve, maybe thirteen years old. there was a mirror in this apartment my family stayed in for a brief time, and one day, as i gazed into this piece of cheap glass, probably hung by nothing more than a pushpin on our creaky walls, i thought the exact words, “i wish i were dead.” –now i cannot be completely sure that this instance was the first time i’d ever had thoughts like this, but i earnestly believe that this was the first time i ever meant it. that memory has stuck itself in my brain like a leech to a leg, and it has defined my entire outlook on life for every measly day since. these thoughts were not inheritnly suicidal in the beginning, more so about a guilty wish. but as years went on, the thoughts and feelings grew an edge to them, which has evolved them into a ghost i have to settle, because whenever it presents itself it is not good. though i have in any ways learned to live with this weight on my back, and for the most part it’s become an annoyance more than a problem. though to circle back to the point at hand, due to this general distaste for life, i don’t really find an immense amount of enjoyment in my physical being. i find myself okay looking, and i take care of my appearance, i do things i enjoy and i try not to be an asshole, but what i think is hard for people to grasp is that even though i like aspects of me, i resent myself for living. its hard to explain.

he’s a prince because his mom was ocean royalty, anyway she disowned him so we don’t really care about her (fuck everyone who made seonghwa feel like an outcast :/)

has scales on parts of his body like the rest of the ocean dwellers because they descended from sea serpents, his range from black to deep royal blue which INFURIATES the court because those colors are the purest meant for ROYALTY like even his mom’s scales aren’t as deep/pure as seonghwa’s so ha in your FACE

except seonghwa isn’t a fan of the scales because it just makes him feel even more like he doesn’t belong in his own skin :///

friends with fire prince hongjoong and ocean prince san, both of whom are some of the few who treat seonghwa like an actual person and not just an outcast :/

takes very good care of the animals who live around the volcanic vents! a lot of the other ocean dwellers are scared of them because they look so different but seonghwa knows what it’s like to be an outcast so he keeps his little area as clean and welcoming as possible :)

it gets lonely around the volcanoes but honestly seonghwa prefers that over when he has to be at court for ceremonies n stuff. like yeah there might be water snakes around his place but they’re nothing compared to the snakes in the palace badum tss

fire prince of the dragon clan

there are two clans of the fire kingdom, one descended from dragons and the other descended from phoenixes, and they’re Rivals

dragon clan is allied with the ocean dwellers since sea serpents are related to dragons, phoenix clan is allied with the air dwellers because they all can fly n stuff

but anyway more on phoenix stuff in mingi’s part

has scales too, though his are more on the neck while seonghwa’s around around his ribs/waist, also they’re bright red/orange not blue

can produce and control dragon fire, which is destructive and primarily used for offense, so hongjoong’s been trained for an early age how to use it for max power/destruction

meets seonghwa on one of the few times hwa comes to the surface to chill in the sun and he’d just accidentally set fire to a small part of the beach and when he sees hwa he’s like HELP ME PUT THIS OUT

except hwa can’t control water he can only do magma so. yeah

san was nearby though and helped deal with it and later joong was like what the fuck kind of ocean dweller can’t control water and seonghwa was like. I'm half you dickwad

obviously they become friends after that. if they didn’t I'd give you permission to slap my face

but also after that hongjoong learns to keep a much tighter rein on his powers, like yes he’s being trained for destruction but he has masterful control over his abilities

could be considered a fire prodigy in all honesty

earth boy!! very powerful earth bender

can definitely do a lot of destruction with his powers but prefers to help things grow instead! talks to his garden and swears up and down that his plants grow bigger and taller when he does

good friends with both mingi of the phoenix clan and hongjoong of the dragon clan

earth dwellers aren’t allied with any side of the fire rivalry so they serve as the arbiters/judges when disputes come into place which is fair because earth is solid and stable and just (most of the time)

which is why yunho is able to balance this sort of friendship between the two boys :) does NOT meet with them together though that would be a recipe for disaster (not necessarily because of hongjoong/mingi themselves, they know how to behave, but the neurotic clan elders would throw a hissy fit)

runs a small restaurant in the capital that mostly caters to the working class, people always ask why yunho doesn’t try to do “more” with himself, that he’s wasted potential running a restaurant when he could potentially be a general or something in the army because of his earth bending prowess

but yunho doesn’t care, he’s happy where he is and he develops his bending as a way to protect and help himself and others, and from his friendship with hongjoong/mingi he’s pretty sure he wants to avoid clashing with earth royalty at all costs ksjndksjh

air prince :) also he’s blond in this au you can’t change my mind

not particularly one of the strongest benders, but he’s very intelligent and wise which people value a little less than they should but yeosang doesn’t really care, he’s just going with it

imagine! yeosang in flows white robes!! floating on the wind!!!

yes air dwellers can fly sobs because they control the wind

and while yeosang isn’t necessarily the greatest at using his powers for fighting or whatever, he’s very good at flying and has a lot of fun with it along with air noble wooyoung

best friends with wooyoung by the way, no one really gets it because yeosang is quieter and doesn’t yell as much while wooyoung is the definition of Chaos

but wooyoung brings out the rowdy side in yeosang and their screams/yells echo in the air when they get together

a little wary of wooyoung’s friendship with san mostly because he’s a prince and understands the consequences of wooyoung, an air noble, being friends with the allies of their supposed enemy (water is allied with the dragon clan)

(maybe he’s a little jealous too)

but in the end it’s always still woo + yeosang against the world, floating in the sky and doing what they can for their people <3

he’s actually the reason I birthed this au I couldn’t get ocean prince san out of my mind

flowy clothes and a crown of shells and pearls! likes shiny things and will trade with earth dweller merchants for new bits of crystal and jewelry!! tell me he isn’t a dream!!!

one of the beloved princes of the ocean, honestly probably the most loved because he’s so smiley and handsome and all around a very good boy until it’s his turn to perform the ceremonial dances and he turns into a demon

the brightest blue scales run up from his waist to his ribs, another one of the purest colors of royalty

uses his status to get away with being friends with seonghwa (aka people won’t yell at him if it’s obvious he disappeared for a while to the volcanic vents) but keeps their friendship kind of under wraps because hwa is afraid of retaliation when he has to visit the court :/

truly does not give a shit about hwa being half earth, if anything kind of envies it because he’s always curious to explore the volcanic trenches but as a normal ocean dweller the heat would be too much for him if he stayed too long

kinda scared of the animals near the trenches but he warms up to them after some periodic visits

friends with air noble wooyoung! even though it’s kind of (?) breaking alliances but neither of them really cares because they’re so much fun together :D

mingi

phoenix nobility, not quite a prince but close 

phoenix fire has defensive and healing properties, so it can’t actually burn people but it can heal and protect from dragon fire/regular fire!

mingi is well-versed in the art of healing even though he’s a little clumsy sometimes :/ luckily phoenix fire doesn’t burn or there’d be major issues skjnsdkjh

can fly! phoenix descendants have a limited ability to fly, not as much as the air dwellers who can literally control the wind to help them, but it’s often enough to get them out of tight spots

only problem is mingi doesn’t like to fly very much skjndgjhn heights kinda suck

but when he does it’s fucking majestic, these orange flaming wings extending from his arms that clash beautifully with his red/orange hair

imagine seeing it at sunset oh my god that’s a dream

the phoenix and dragon clans are in negotiation with each other most of the time because ~hostilities~ but mingi doesn’t often participate in the direct talking because he’s better at working behind the scenes

ridiculously smart and likes to debate with yunho over things because seeing issues from a neutral perspective is very helpful and something mingi doesn’t think people do enough

what he’d really love to do is talk to hongjoong because an opposite perspective would be even better, but people don’t like that happening :/

secretly admires dragon fire because it’s so cool how dragon descendants can control so much destructive power with such ease

is always on duty for patrolling the mountains because he’s one of the best at flying, but it’s fine because wooyoung enjoys being able to make his rounds and talk to people along the way

he also gets the “wasted potential” thing that yunho deals with a lot, but jongho has thick skin and those sorts of comments roll of his (broad) shoulders very quickly

LOATHES IT when generals and officials come to him with commissions and expect them to be done first and foremost like jongho doesn’t have around ten other projects hanging out in the background, but he just has to receive them with a smile

How would you characterize Samus? Considering how her character is largely left up in the air I wanted to hear your two cents on it, as well as some headcanons maybe :)

Honestly I think that the games do a very good job at painting Samus’ simple but compelling personality, even if she’s largely a silent protagonist.

Samus is a quiet, introvert, serious, more-action-than-words woman who always strives her best at anything she does, whether it’s a mission or a personal goal of hers (like in SM where she decided to chase Ridley on her own volition). She doesn’t have many friends, but not because she actively shuns company - she does well with allies, as shown in MP3, but it’s obvious that she feels more comfortable working solo (you won’t hear Samus promoting the Superpower of Teamwork™ anytime soon, unlike another blue guy we know :P). And considering the kind of planets she explores completely on her own, this is only a testament of how brave and confident in herself she is.

We don’t see Samus talking much (although there’s one single game that more than makes up for it), but in Fusion you get the impression that Samus is actually introspective, and under that stoic demeanor she takes her time to reflect on past and present situations when possible.

On a scale from lawful to chaotic, I’d say she’s firmly neutral: she’ll follow orders without question, but only if her superiors don’t give her any reasons to mistrust them. After all, who would be able to stop Samus Aran if she decides to do things her own way?

On the surface, she looks like a hardass warrior, ready to shoot anything on sight and sparing no mercy for any alien creature that might be dangerous. And yes, it’s true. But she also has a soft side, most evident in the finale of Samus Returns - after spending who knows how much time hunting down every single Metroid to exterminate the entire species, as her superiors demanded, not even she could kill an innocent baby. Ignoring OM because fuck it, it’s interesting how, in the intro of SM, Samus seems to look at the Metroid in a more pragmatic fashion, talking about its potential to be used for good and little else. You could even argue that she went through the hell that is Zebes simply because Ridley could not be trusted with a Metroid, which is a valid reason. But the way she absolutely slaughters Mother Brain after the bitch kills it... well, I don’t think Samus was simply angry because the scientists lost a potential way to use Metroids for good.

As for what she does when she’s not on the clock, I like that image in Zero Mission showing her chilling in a bar. It looks like she likes gambling to gain even more money :P

Share a few headcanons about Grundy’s physical prowess and whatever you feel like sharing! I don’t know much about him

YEAAAAAAAH! Now it’s a party! >:D

Okay okay, so DC has a TON of characters that can be considered bruisers. Mammoth, Amygdala, Blockbuster, Bane, Brickwall......the list is as endless as the number of ice-based villains.

Now Grundy is a bit different. He’s the progenitor of ALL these guys. He was there decades before Bane, before Mammoth......before anyone, really. So not only was he the original bruiser, but thanks to him we have the Incredible Hulks in Marvel.

What’s interesting is that Grundy isn’t just strong. Bane is strong.....Grundy is BEYOND strong. If he was a mutant, he’d be an omega-level (he makes the Juggernaut look like a wuss), he easily carries 100+ metric tons and has carried entire MOUNTAINS on his back.

And he keeps getting stronger. However, it takes him much longer to do so because he gains strength with each regeneration. So in that regard he’s more like Broly the Legendary Super-Saiyan in that he grows stronger the more times he gets the crap beaten out of him.

Another thing that happens is that Grundy grows bigger the more times he dies. A good example of this is in Arkham City. In Arkham City, Grundy was horrifically tortured, mutilated and murdered every. single. day. for upwards of 50 years.

In that huge stretch of time, he went from being around the size and overall look of the Justice League animated Grundy....

The Solomon Grundy BAF on the right is about 9 inches tall. The DC Direct Arkham City Solomon Grundy is 13 inches tall.

Now, scaling that upwards......Grundy is over 13 feet tall (in the mobile games he honestly looks about 15-20 feet tall) in Arkham City, when he was about 9 feet tall before decades of hyper-experimentation and butchery.

Boy grew so big his pants are about to fall off.

Grundy’s regeneration is some of the most potent in the DC universe. Even the SUN couldn’t destroy him. He came back even after Bizarro disintegrated him to the MOLECULAR level by throwing him into the heart of the sun itself.

He came back. As long as life, death, decay and renewal exists, so does Grundy. One major reason why he’s so OP is because he’s a necessary part of the world’s balance. He’s an avatar and champion of the Grey, i.e. the fungal life and decomposers. He spreads decay only to allow regeneration, and is Swamp Thing’s “brother” (he was originally going to be a Swampthing, but Grundy failed the requirements, so the Grey basically took an embryonic Grundy and became his surrogate mother, developing him into what he is today.)

Grundy has all these cool abilities and all (Hell, he literally used Solar Beam and could manipulate solar energy at one point. He was a freaking Venusaur years before Venusaur was a thing....) but his life sucks. It’s horrible. He’s in constant pain, constantly exhausted from struggling to keep his zombie instincts to tear people apart subdued......

He’s harassed CONSTANTLY by heroes, even when he just wants to be left alone, and it’s become a sort of ‘right of passage’ to kill him to earn your stripes as a hero. He can’t really die so it doesn’t count. Problem is is that Grundy remembers EVERYTHING done to him. So every time he’s essentially murdered, the more maddened and distrustful he gets. He doesn’t trust heroes AT ALL and WILL put on a resting bitch face if he has to even STAND close to a hero.

He HATES them with a burning passion because all they do is hurt him. The only time a hero ever gave him a real chance in the comics was with the heroine Jade. Jade was the daughter of Grundy’s arch-nemesis Alan Scott the original Green Lantern and he adored her.

He was even a hero (well....antihero) for a time with Infinity Inc. He was grumpy, a pain in the neck,constantly getting into trouble by wandering around and bumping into LA traffic (as a lifelong Los Angelian myself......our traffic freaking stinks), but he was loyal, sweet and just a huge puppy.

Until he was manipulated into attacking his friends by a villainess named Marci Cooper aka Harlequin. His friendship was destroyed and he NEVER trusted a hero ever again.

The villains manipulated him and treated him like property, but they said kind words and fed him, so he just assumed they cared about him. They never did (only the Injustice Society guys cared about him, but the team was shortlived and Grundy was left all alone again.)

Grundy is a victim of circumstances beyond his control. Endless years of torture reduced him mentally to basically a child (the rare times he snaps out of it he shows genuine fear of being sucked right back), and is easily manipulated with promises of companionship.

Thankfully there are SOME writers lately who have made heroes treat him better and have shown him to be less of a villain and more of a neutral character just wanting to find his way in the world.

(I can literally go on and on but my goodness I’m tired. XD There’s A LOT about Grundy that I’ve left out, like his relationship with Alan Scott and how horrifically TOXIC it is, his family that he lost, his bromance with Bizarro that DC keeps crapping on lately, how he became a hero in Dark Knights: Death Metal and even has a variation that is basically himself cosplaying as Bats. XD

I might do another post about that later when I’m not tired. XD)

First Playthrough Log Tyranny Part 2

Have I told you that I like Landry? Cause I do. And honestly Clai does as well, she’s much like him.

They get minus points for horrible graphics options. There is no scaling the tiny sizes, all I could do was lower the resolution, which is dumb. Like guys, really? I don’t expect much in terms of technical stuff, but being able to make icons bigger can’t possibly have been that hard to do.

Why did they give Vittles that model? He looks 30.

Barik. Barik my boy. No. We will not slaughter these random villagers.

This game is fun, but only for short stretches at a time. I can only take the grim story and atmosphere for so long. Pillars is grim, but a lot more neutral and open to being a good person without being suicidal. Also the companions make it a lot warmer.

I’m slightly confused that my companions didn’t bitch at me again for striking a deal with the Vendrien Guard but I guess I’m not complaining.

j/ I’m just running around, solving problems like good little adventurer I am, I see I got a letter, and what greets me when I open it? “May the edict claim your worthless life”. Dickhead. (Also the Vendrien Guard likes me more than they hate me, so he’s a double dickhead.) (I just read it, and he’s even more of a dickhead than I thought. Insults me and then tells me to help him. Dickhead.)

What does sleeping actually do? In Pillars you have to sleep because you get punishments if you don’t, but I keep checking active effects and nothing happens, even though I haven’t slept once yet. Maybe I don’t see it? Maybe it’s because I’m playing story mode? Maybe two days just aren’t that bad yet? Maybe it’s because of the edict? I don’t know.

I am kind of thankful that no one in this game is really so charismatic that my heart hangs on them. Makes making bad decisions easier.

How shit are your parents, Fruits Basket edition, part 1

I’ll be doing this by age of the members rather then what place in the zodiac they have:

Shigure Sohma: We only ever see Shigure’s parents once in the manga, and there is nothing to hint any anger between them.

As stated in from the Fruits Basket fandom wiki: “they do appear to be bothered and tired of Shigure's easy-going personality and his tendency to do everything in his own way.”

Though that might just be more him being Shigure then him being the dog. There has never been any implication on Shigure’s part that he was ever physically or mentally abused, at least not by his parents. Shigure definitely ahs some fucked up shit going on, but tbh a lot of that seems to be around the curse on the family as a whole, and how Shigure feels about Akito and the actions he took with Rin as a result of those feelings. With nothing else to go on, they get a neutral 5/10.

Hatori Sohma: Hatori’s parents are never seen in the manga, and there is only a vague mention of his father’s funeral in one chapter, so most of the information we’re using is from the wiki again (courtesy of the Fruits Basket Fan Book: Cat)

“Hatori was born into the Sohma Family as the only child of his late parents; his mother passed away from illness when he was in elementary school, and his father died of an unspecified illness while Hatori was in high school. Both of his parents were very strict and his home life wasn't very warm, which is the cause of his stoic personality. At some point, the memory suppression technique was passed to him by his father who held that role before him; a technique which has been handed down in his family for generations.”

Hatori’s parents are not great. Not the worst, by any means, in this fucked up family, but still not great. The part about Hatori’s father previously being the memory suppressor raises eyebrows for me though, as this means Hatori’s family is ‘old blood’, it has known about the curse for years, and most likely is prone to either having children who are part of it, or are like the servants of the main house, who are always privy to that knowledge.

4/10. They lose points for potentially being emotionally neglectful of Hatori.

Ayame Sohma: Father is never mentioned or seen. We’ll assume he’s dead or gone.

Ayame’s relationship to his mother is never specifically gone into a lot. But we can make a few guesses based on how the one time we do see her specifically interact with him and with how she treated Yuki.

Ayame’s mum is a grade A bitch.

She makes decisions for her kids based on what benefits her the most, without a care for what happens to said kids. She hated Ayame for being too flamboyant, and probably because she also could not control him. Most likely a narcissist and is definitely emotionally and physically abusive. 0/10

Kureno Sohma: Kureno’s parents are only ever seen once and their interaction is not even with Kureno, but discussing Akira marrying Ren. From the wiki, “Kureno's mother was fine with it as long both of them were happy”. There is never any implication of emotional or physical abuse.

It’s very possible that after Kureno’s curse broke at 16, Akito basically refused to let his parents see him anymore (for fear that news that the curse was broken would get out), as they are never seen nor mentioned by adult Kureno. We’re giving them a neutral 5/10.

Ritsu Sohma: Ritsu’s parents are honestly not that bad. There is never anything to suggest they directly abused Ritsu themselves, and they also suffer anxiety themselves due to how the rest of the Sohma family treats them. I get the feeling that they are from a much lower branch of the family, and that Ritsu being cursed was unexpected to everyone, including members of the main family. To be honest, a good deal of Ritsu’s anxiety and problems seem to come from the family as a whole unit as opposed to his parents.

Despite everything, they seem to love Ritsu, and his mom even said she was worried about Tohru at first because she was scared about an outsider knowing the secret, but after meeting Tohru, she no longer worries about that. If his parents are guilty of anything, it’s for not stranding up for themselves and their son more. Honestly, if there hadn’t been any curse shit, Ritsu probably would’ve grown up with genetic anxiety but not as many other issues. 6/10.

Kagura Sohma: Again, pretty low on the scale of “how shit are your parents”. From the times we do see Kagura’s mum, she’s shown to be a very calm and level-headed woman, but still very caring of Kagura who doesn’t get angry about her double-ended/aggressive personality. She also took Rin in and is shown to at least be understanding of why Rin is the way she is.

Apparently Kagura’s parents used to fight a lot when she was a kid, and her mum would cry after each fight. But by the time Kagura is in university, she and her husband have worked things out and are still together and are also very loving and supportive of Kagura.

I could make the argument they lose points for the fact they don’t seem to be doing much for Rin, but at the same time, what CAN they do? They let Rin know she has a safe roof over her head, and that they won’t judge her for anything, but they cannot do much to speak out against how Akito treats Rin or how Rin reacts to that treatment. 7/10

Rin/Isuzu Sohma: I would say that her parents are the definition of human faeces, but that would be insulting to faeces. At least you can use it as a fertiliser.

Given how extensive the abuse from BOTH her parents is, I genuinely do not think Rin NOT being cursed would’ve changed anything. These are the kind of people who WOULD have found some reason to abuse Rin. -50/10

DCOM Rankings #82: The Suite Life Movie

Oh boy oh boy oh boy....what has this franchise done to my boys?!

So I’m gonna be frank, this just wasn’t that great. Not the worst thing that I’ve ever seen, but not great.

To unpack all the context behind this movie, I LOVED Suite life of Zack and Cody as a kid. Like that was one of my favorite shows growing up. I remember it came out I think in 2005 or 6? A few years after Friends ended because cole sprouse was in that. So I was like 10. Still young enough to shamelessly enjoy Disney channel. Anyway, when that show ended and the spin-off began, I was a little skeptical because Maddie and a few other cast members weren’t going to be part of it. And that made me sad. But I was good with the new characters they brought on. I’m glad at least London and moseby were still part of it. I didn’t watch that much of the final season. I swear every good (or decent) sitcom on Disney channel at the time was unplugged at the same time. Something in the spin-off had really changed the tone of the show and i guess it didn’t really strike the same chord with me even though I was only a little bit younger than the twins were.

But in the end it was still nostalgic because it’s the suite life! and that’s how the movie was with me too, I don’t remember if this was the true finale to the show or if the final episode was considered the finale. But either way, it kind of went out with a sizzle and not a bang.

I wanted to explain that I didn’t like the spin-off in general as much because it explains why I didn’t like the movie as much either.

Let’s get to my favorite part: the flaws! ✨

- the whole execution of the premise could have been done on a slightly more epic scale. The premise itself is fine, but I felt that it needed more, like more of an adventure and not just being stuck in one facility for most of the movie. Maybe that’s just me but it’s the first thing I noticed.

-the kinda lame writing, when it comes to the script. I think these might be the same writers from the series but I’m not positive and I too lazy to check. I didn’t laugh at most of the jokes and the script and the things that the writers have the characters do seems a little childish for their age...?

-to go off of this. Dylan and Cole (btw my phone automatically capitalized the names lol is my phone a fan?) have clearly grown out of these roles. If they would have kept this up any longer it would have been just embarrassing. I compare these two to Drake and Josh all the time and the response to this might be “but drake and josh are clearly so much older for their roles. Why do you like them better?” It’s simple. Zack and Cody (again with the capitalization of these names haha) started out the series as kids, and the formula worked for them as kids. Oh my god the first series was fantastic. “How do you lose a woman?!” “You forget to cherish her” and “honey, you missed auburn big time” were such iconic lines. And then the characters aged up and none of their adventures seemed apprporiate anymore, and putting them on the boat I guess was a smart move in a way but it just changed the whole dynamic of the show.

ANYWAY, drake and josh already started their show off as teenagers and were teenagers through the rest of the show. the dynamic was more or less the same. I remember nerdstalgic doing a brief video on why drake and josh is better than anything on Disney channel at the time is because it’s just two step brothers with no gimic and they literally act more like real teenagers would. Zack and Cody still behaved like they were in preschool. And that’s clearly shown in the movie as well.

I think that was the biggest problem of the movie, at least with the main characters. You could just tell the twins were kinda done with these roles. And I’m glad the show ended about here and the boys got to do other roles later on. (Btw Dylan voices yozora in kingdom hearts and it literally sounds 0 like him and it’s actually really scary). I’ve also heard that Cole likes to cosplay and stuff (I guess more casually) but they both seem like pretty down to earth guys.

-Sorry keep getting off topic. Another flaw in the movie is the side character dynamic. London really only has mr moseby to bounce her comedic tone off of. Bailey is straight up annoyingly this movie. She spends 90% of it bitching about Cody while we the audience knows exactly what situation Cody is in, and it’s just not funny. Woody doesn’t do anything besides being a 2nd comedic relief even though London is perfectly fine in that role. And again Bailey is just a girl version of Cody. The only interesting characters were the ones from the original suite live show and they weren’t even that good in it. It’s basically nostalgia fueling my interest in them.

-lastly the ending just kinda happened, I think it was definitely because this wasn’t considered the finale of the whole show so the conclusion was more so “everything is back to normal as if nothing happened” which is ehhh. But whatever.

Those were the biggies. Here are some salvageable things though:

- the premise itself was kinda cool. Like the idea of Zack and Cody being trapped on a twin island with a mad scientist doing experiments on them. It wasn’t executed very well but at least the premise was interesting enough to keep me wondering what would happen next.

- again, many of the characters are nostalgic for me so it is easier for me to enjoy the movie when I already know and like the characters overall.

-while I didn’t laugh at many of the jokes, there were some zingers in there that made me laugh or at least a little chuckle, so I gotta give it a point there

-the story flowed pretty nicely, it didn’t seemed rushed or dragged on for too long. The twist villain I predicted but the way it was revealed was something I didn’t quite expect. And I didn’t realize he was on the ship at the very beginning of the movie, so like I thought that was creepy.

I don’t know if I have any more stuff to say so I’m just gonna go ahead and grade. I’m debating on whether to give this a minus or a neutral score and I just kept thinking “if someone wanted to watch this with me for whatever reason, would I object? And yeah I kinda would, there’s not too much good going for this movie. And honestly the original show should have had a proper finale and just left it at there. So B- everybody! Still a B movie but not one that I will really watch again. At least not willingly.

Okay next one is another fan favorite and I’m pretty excited to visit this one again, considering I was just about to turn 16 when this came out and was like “DCOMS are for babies” so I don’t remember if I actually liked it or not. See you soon!

Castlevania S3: Thoughts

So! I finally got to watch all of it. What follow is my personal opinion on the season.

Warning spoilers, etc

Also, I base my opinion on expectations that I had from the games and previous seasons, and the fact that this present as an adaptation. And that the first two seasons had managed rather well in that aspect, being just the perfect mix of faithful and original.

General mood after watching this season: Meh. Disappointed.

Trevor and Sypha part was good, best part of this whole season honestly. It was nice to see them develop their relationship. I was a bit disappointed by the ending with the judge, like, can’t they meet just ONE person in charge that isn’t a huge asshole? But that aside, their arc was good.

St Germain was... boring. Utterly boring. The character wasn’t too bad in personality, but his arc was boring as fuck. Might be just me, but I didn't give a damn about his long lost friend that I didn't know a thing about. Like, how am I supposed to get attached to a missing character that I don't know? They could have not put his backstory in, left us to wonder about the mysterious time-traveling magicien and it wouldn’t have changed a thing (aside from the episode length)

Isaac is... I really dunno what to think of him. I’m still expecting to see him go insane ala Curse of Darkness, and start running around (half naked) to go kill Hector. So far he’s doing the second part, but not the insane part. I dunno if he eventually will or not? I’m neutral for this one, since Isaac in the game was barely developed in terms of backstory, and insanity is only remarkable when balanced against reason, so to see him be so logical now would mark a very strong passage into the insane if they do ever make him go that way.

Hector storyline left me disappointed as well.

In the game he’s the calm and collected one. Not Isaac. And the kind one as well. That they changed that a bit isn't a problem, what result of this change is: his story is just... going nowhere? Now he’s a slave to the bitches court, and I spent the entire season wondering how the fuck they were going to tie that back to Rosaly?

For those unaware, Rosaly is a human girl that take Hector in when she find him half-dead in the wood after he defected from Dracula.

Because Originally Carmilla was never there. This entire thing with Carmilla is ad-lib, but I’ll come back to that.

Anyway, so, Hector run, meet this human girl who is... a saint. Let’s be honest. And they fall in love, and Isaac kills her to make Hector suffer, and then we spend an entire game chasing Isaac for revenge. So.... with the way things are going in the serie, I just can’t see how that would happen? And I’ll be extremely disappointed if it doesn’t? I really want to see Hector happy. And have him meet Trevor.

Now on to the really ad-lib, and let’s start with the thing I have less to say about:

Alucard part is also leaving me neutral. Not in a bad sense, more in a “Was this truly needed?” sense. I mean, it’s a real classical tale of betrayal, it doesn’t develop Alucard character that much, we already know he can be pragmatically cold and cruel when he needs to. But since he’s supposed to be in frozen sleep in a coffin in his mother mausoleum... Serie decided to keep him around, but what’s the point if he doesn’t join back with Trevor and Sypha? Or will loneliness get to him again, and thus prompting him to seal himself to sleep? One too many betrayal and Zzzzzzz Alucard?

Dunno... so yeah. Neutral

And now the juicy bit:

Carmilla.

When they included her in the second season, I was rather happy, because she’s a very important character in the lore. And the way they added her, making her the snake in Dracula’s court, was really good.

But this season? She was useless. Her whole court is useless. They’re supposed to be the new big bad, but they’re nothing more than Dracula scaled down. It’s like re-heating a dish that’s been left to rot. It won’t taste good. No matter how pretty you dress it.

Remove the entire plot with her and her court, and there is no difference in the overall story. At all. She doesn’t add any tension, she doesn’t add anything of importance.

In a video game it would be like re-using a level. You put the players through the exact same level as before, with only cosmetic changes and you pray no one notice.

Also, this one is me being Salty but: they managed to get the time and energy to re-invent another entire fucking court, but they couldn’t put in Grant. One of the fucking main character of Castlevania III Are you kidding?

There are some other things I didn’t like but I can’t think of all of them right off and those are more a general dislike, and not specifically related to the story. Out of the top of my head right now: Alucard get betrayed via sex, with some weird undertone. Didn’t like that. Same for Hector. Also didn’t like that. The only openly LGBT characters are the evil court of bitches. And Alucard also, but then this tie in with his betrayal, and with the weird undertone and the “I didn’t like that.”

So yeah, this season was a big disappointment, and I can just hope that things will get better next season.
