MR. AND MRS. X VOLUME 1

Ok I'm reading Mr. and Mrs. X and I'm largely enjoying it, but something's rubbing me the wrong way now. I've been feeling like it's been slightly more Rogue focused and thought that was fine; I'm just happy whenever Gambit isn't treated as a joke background character. And it's not like he doesn't get his moments.

But now (#5), after we've had Rogue Angst and Autonomy Talk where she gets to be emotional and he the understanding partner, it's now Remy's turn to be hurt because Rogue had to pretend to be dead for a while to end a fight.

(I hope & am gonna assume the "stop being so mad, be grateful" is influenced by her being overwhelmed with the new mind powers bc damn)

The narrative seems to acknowledge that it's obvious that he'd be mad bc that's really hurtful ("Is Rogue in trouble?" "Yes, darling. I believe she is.") Rogue acknowledges it. She wanted to warn him beforehand but the risk was too high.

I don't know Rogue well enough to know if she does this "all the time". But I firmly believe that anyone in Remy's situation here has the right to be hurt and dramatic about it for a while, even if it were completely irrational.

I get Rogue feeling defensive about her choice but good lord, maybe now is the time to go "I know, I'm sorry" to your partner who had to actually mourn you for a hot second and let them ride it out.

I can't fault her for doing what she thought was necessary to save lives (including his). I'm ok with her getting defensive in the moment instead of being a perfect angel, that happens and she could get back to it later. Instead:

SUDDEN DERAILING ROGUE ANGST OUT OF NOWHERE :D

No idea what happened but now she's all angsty and in shock and her power-absorping problem is even worse bc it can apparently happen without touching. And Remy has to step in and reassure her he's not going anywhere and true love and everything and they rally and take off. And the Gambit being hurt conversation is dropped and not picked up again.

I'm saying this as someone who likes Rogue being angsty as fuck: what the fuck was that. Just interrupting the scene bc we can't let her have a mature conversation? Bc we can't have Remy being more angsty than her for more than 2 panels? In-universe it's not up to Rogue when big drama happens that conveniently overshadows Remy's gripes and forces him to step up as the supportive partner. But stuff like this bothers me.
