When the news came, Lena was in a meeting with Sam and the L-Corp's board. She'd long ago set all alerts for Supergirl to come through to her phone, but ones where Supergirl was injured had been set to ignore all other settings.
The ring caused Sam to jump, but Lena kept her cool. She glanced down at her phone, and felt her veins turn to ice. A brief message that Supergirl had fallen from the sky.
Shit.
Lena grabbed her phone and bag. "I regret that I must take this call. An emergency has come up."
Sam looked at her, her brow furrowed in worry. "I can handle this, Lena. Go."
With a tight smile to her friend and CFO, Lena hurried from the room. She swapped out her shoes, and took off in a sprint. The alert had given her an intersection, but she needed to know if Alex knew about this yet.
Lena: Alex, I'm incoming.
Alex: wait, what?
Lena: Kara, she's fallen.
Alex: The hell? She's supposed to be eating lunch! Was in a meeting. Where?
Lena forwarded the alert's text, baffled that Alex had no idea.
Alex: How close are you? It's gonna take me fifteen minutes. J'onn unavailable.
Lena: Be there in five.
The doors of the elevator opened. Why drive when she could take the helicopter? When her pilot reached the intersection, Lena stared in horror. Someone had what looked like a missile launcher over their shoulder, and Kara laid in a cracked hole in the street in front of Noonan's. So Alex had been correct, Kara had been getting lunch, as drinks and food was spilled across the curb. People clustered in the doorways of the cafe and storefronts, and Kara's supersuit had a burn mark across its front.
Fuck.
"Hold us steady," Lena ordered the pilot. She grabbed a bag from behind her seat. In case of an attack -- considering she had quarterly assassination attempts all the time -- she had some specific weapons in here. One of them was a shotgun with some unusual shells. She flicked through her supplies and decided on a particularly useful set. She popped in the shells, cocked the gun, and threw open the door. The person started to look up, but Lena wasn't giving them a chance to react. She fired. The shots slammed into the person's back and immediately ice formed. She fired again. This time the person fell to the ground as a block of ice. Cryo shells had their use. She reloaded and gestured to her pilot.
He brought the helicopter closer to the ground. "Watch my back," she said, mostly out of habit, though she doubted the pilot could do anything. "And stay in the air. We'll need a quick exit." "Right, Ms. Luthor." He kept his gaze on the controls, his voice coming through her headset.
She jumped to the ground, her shotgun cocked. As she scanned the area, she realized, to her dismay, that another person stood in the shadows of the storefront across from Noonan's, armed with some sort of long rifle. Why the person hadn't fired yet confused her.
Lena aimed but didn't fire yet. She didn't have confidence that her shot would hit before the other took her out. "Step away from Supergirl."
The person wasn't that much taller than herself. Curly blonde hair leaked out of the black beanie, and blue eyes regarded her from under a black mask, their clothes definitely assassin-like. "Stay out of this, Luthor." A high-pitched voice. Possibly a woman?
"This is my business." Lena stalked closer. "Don't think I won't take you out like your friend there." She nodded at the other person dressed in black with a black mask over their face, their eyes closed. Ice was still encased around their lower body.
Lena wished she'd seen the person earlier. Otherwise she'd have fired on them too. Now they were in a stand-off exactly when Kara needed her the most.
"I don't want to do this," the woman in black said. "You're not on our list."
"Then step away now. Don't think I won't fire."
The woman stared at her for a long moment as if sizing her up. Her voice timbre changed to a hint of coy and frustrated. "Why do you care, Lena Luthor? Doesn't your family hate Kryptonians?"
Lena rolled her eyes. "I'm not them." She needed to distract her somehow. At least until Alex got here or Lena could fire the shot without getting hit in turn. "Now, how about you put down your weapon, I'll put down mine, and we'll talk like civilized people?"
The woman hesitated, her rifle moved just an inch down.
That was when the shot came from above. The bullet hit the woman's shoulder, she staggered backward, and Lena took the shot. Two blasts later, the woman was encased in ice like her friend.
Lena slung the shotgun over her shoulder and raced to Kara's side. "Supergirl!" She dropped next to her and felt for Kara's pulse. It was faint, far too faint. "Dammit." She didn't have time to check for injuries. Kara needed extracted immediately. "Riordan, drop the stretcher," she said into her headset.
The helicopter hovered closer, and a side door slid open. The stretcher shot out, swung, and slowed to a stop above her head. She reached up, snagged its side, and pulled on its rope until she had it next to Kara. It took two tries to lift the Kryptonian -- damn, Kara was heavy -- until she had Kara on and belted in securely. Flicking the switch on the bottom of the stretcher, a set of footrests dropped into place.
After she clamped her shoes onto the footrests, she noticed several people had started to come out of the stores with their phones in their hands, likely recording her rescue.
Whatever. All Lena cared about was Kara. "Go," she ordered her pilot, and held on tightly as the helicopter lifted toward the sky.
TO BE CONTiNUED...

IOTA Reviews: Representation
Tumblr media
Oh, so NOW child abuse is bad. Could have fooled me last episode!
Let's get into the twenty-fifth episode of Miraculous Ladybug's fifth season: Representation
We start off with an English news report recapping the ending of “Revolution”, stating that Ms. Bustier is going to run for mayor, conveniently ignoring her attempted coup in “Collusion”. We also see that Gabriel and Tomoe are still uncomfortably focused on making Adrien and Kagami appear to be a couple in public, much to their dismay. While Kagami is visited by Argos (who once again sneaks up on her, like he usually does), Adrien realizes he can transform into his space form and see Marinette whenever he wants and transforms into Cat Noir, planning to reveal his identity to Marinette. Hey, did he even tell Ladybug about his sudden departure? Because it didn't go well the last time he left Paris without telling her (New York Special).
We then cut to Marinette right after the events of “Revolution”, going to the end of the year dance... even though when we saw Adrien and Kagami in London, the sun was still setting, and France's time zone is only about an hour later, meaning Adrien and Kagami must have flown there at ludicrous speed.
Meanwile, Argos and Kagami somehow got from London to Paris offscreen, and watch Marinette from afar, with Kagami revealing she knows she's Ladybug. They decide to tell Marinette that Felix knows who Monarch is in order to ensure his downfall. Nah, I'm just kidding. Here's the real reason they're coming to Marinette for help.
Kagami: My mother and Gabriel Agreste will never allow us to love each other freely. Only Ladybug can help us.
Yep, rather than prioritize the fact that Gabriel is endangering the citizens of Paris on a daily basis, Kagami is seriously more concerned about her relationship with her boyfriend being tampered with. This is like saying Lex Luthor is evil because he cheats on his taxes. Argos transforms back into Felix, and... oh, for the love of God... he disguises himself as Adrien in order to get closer to Marinette. You can't keep portraying Felix as this master of disguise if he only has ONE disguise!
Marinette sees “Adrien” and assumes he came back from London from her, assuming her boyfriend is much more active that the writers actually believe he is, so she tries to follow him while avoiding the guests at the party. Meanwhile, Gabriel and Tomoe learn their children are gone, so he goes to talk with Nathalie and—why the hell is she like that?
Tumblr media
Seriously, this has never been established as something that happens when someone uses the broken Peacock Miraculous. Why didn't this happen to Emilie? She looks pretty healthy in her little coffin, and I doubt Gabriel is an embalmer.
Anyway, after Nathalie once again reminds us that she hates Gabriel, but not enough to call the cops on him, Gabriel transforms into Monarch and immediately detransforms back in order to akumatize himself into Nightormentor.
Tumblr media
Nightormentor is a pretty average recolor of the Collector's design, which kind of makes sense, considering that Gabriel himself intended the Akuma for himself. The star pattern is okay, but there's not much I can really say. As for his powers, he's just another Sandboy, being able to force people to hallucinate their worse nightmares, only instead of a pillow, his weapon is a staff created from a pen containing the Akuma, with the Horse Miraculous' Voyage to boot. Why he didn't just give himself the same powers he gave Truth when he's trying to find Adrien is anyone's guess.
Cat Noir arrives at the Eiffel Tower to talk with Marinette, just as Nightormentor appears. The two fight, and after a few civilians get caught in the crossfire, Nightormentor escapes through Voyage. As Cat Noir heads to the Dupain-Cheng bakery at the advising of Max, Alya and Nino decide that the totally not useless Resistance should get involved.
While Marinette gives chase, Felix leads her into the school's art classroom, where he transforms into Argos and creates a Sentimonster using Kagami's ring. Felix and Kagami use the Sentimonster's power to do... uh... whatever the hell this is.
Tumblr media
Yeah, this is basically a flashback, but the animators probably blew their budget needed for the new models on Ms. Bustier's baby bump, so we're getting this instead, thanks to the Sentimonster Argos created. There are several scenes of Cat Noir and Nightormentor interspersed, but like what I did with Marinette's flashback in “Derision”, I'll give you the summary before I talk about my problems with this.
When Adrien's mother and aunt, Emilie and Amelie, were born, Emilie (who was born seven seconds early) was trusted with the family heirlooms, the two rings we first saw all the way back in “Felix”. Even though this meant she would inherit the family name, Emilie didn't really like doing... whatever the Graham de Vanily family wanted her to do, but Amelie did. Eventually, while studying abroad, Emilie met Gabriel, and the two fell in love. Before marrying Gabriel, Emilie gave up her role as the sole inheritor of the Graham de Vanily family's vague legacy, while Amelie married a man named Colt to please her parents. Both couples wanted children, but it's heavily implied that Emilie and Amelie were infertile, so their wishes weren't able to come true. Emilie finally managed to get a bun in the oven thanks to the Peacock Miraculous, but this made Colt jealous that he couldn't have a child. Out of the goodness of her heart, Emilie asked Gabriel to give the Peacock Miraculous to Colt, in exchange for letting the Gorilla guard Adrien in the future. Using his own jealousy as a source of power, Colt got Amelie pregnant, though at the cost of his health. Colt figured this was the price he had to pay for using “sorcery”, and used this as an excuse to treat Felix like a monster and ordered him around using the ring containing his Amok. Felix himself was unaware that he wasn't human until Colt accidentally broke the ring (which wasn't one of the two wedding rings used to control Adrien and was an entirely different ring containing Felix's Amok), which he stole as soon as Colt died. This is meant to explain why Felix decided to steal back the Peacock Miraculous, in order to save his life. Felix later met Kagami, and the two explain that they need “Someone like Ladybug” to help them.
Now if your only information about this episode is through my summary, it seems simple enough. For everyone else who actually saw this sequence in the episode itself, I'm guessing your thoughts were about the same as mine.
youtube
Let's go over every problem I have with this scene, starting with...
#1: The Way Kagami and Felix Explain This
Let me just ask something: Why can't Felix just talk to Marinette about what he knows since he now knows she's Ladybug instead of telling her everything through this weird play? You can still tell Marinette all of this without your two-man show. In fact, why did Felix have to wait until he knew Marinette was Ladybug instead of just talking to her the next time he saw her? Yeah, you could argue it's easier this way, but like I've been saying since Season 4, Felix has had no excuse to wait this long to tell Ladybug about the fact that he knows who her greatest enemy is.
And why the hell is it presented this way? Why does Felix have to recontextualize the story of his family's history in the form of a play? Why turn it into a stereotypical fairy tale that leaves out the names of all the important people, like Emilie, Amelie, Colt (whose name I only learned through the transcript of this episode), and Gabriel? If it was like a hidden message Felix and Kagami wanted to convey to Marinette, that would make sense, but why do they have to be so cryptic when they're only putting this show on for one person? You could easily avoid a good chunk of the questions this raises if this was a show Felix and Kagami put on for the public that Marinette was able to learn the information from. Yeah, it still wouldn't explain why Felix can't just tell Marinette about who Gabriel really is, but at least it's something.
The way it all happens kind of reminds me of this scene from this old Halloween special I saw a lot as a kid, Scary Godmother: Halloween Spooktacular. In that scene, some of the kids act out a scene of this little girl's parents entrusting her with a flashlight to explain why she carries it around, in order to scare off any monsters she runs into, using the graveyard they were in as a makeshift set. This scene works a lot more because it's done in more of a tongue-in-cheek way, with some of the kids breaking character to boost their own egos (for example, the kid playing the mom comments about how responsible she is), and how one kid in particular gradually gets fed up with the whole thing. The scene does its job at delivering exposition in a way that isn't meant to be taken too seriously, and it's clear this is being done by some kids goofing around in-universe.
With this episode, it's clear that the writers want the audience to take this whole backstory seriously in spite of how absurd it all is. Seriously look at this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We are seriously expected to take this backstory seriously when it looks like some theater major's midterm project. The animators want it to look artsy and unique for the sake of making it look artsy and unique. Why does it look like a play these two put together themselves if they're supposedly using a Sentimonster's power to do it? If the unnamed Sentimonster's powers is how Marinette is seeing all this, why can't it actually be seen as a flashback? Was it always intended to be a handmade play that was changed to the product of a Sentimonster at the last minute?
I get that the animators probably wanted kids to pick up on the visuals of the play, but even then, it makes it hard to really stomach the serious themes this backstory brings up, like infertility and child abuse, with the way they're presented. Not only do Felix and Kagami all play the characters using these white jumpsuits and masks, they also do all the voices, meaning that the only “dialogue” we hear from Colt is delivered by Kagami putting on a deeper voice. Let me repeat that: the only times we hear Colt, the abusive parent and all around garbage human being, talk, it's done by a teenage girl trying to make her voice sound deeper.
But hey, maybe the goofy voice will be overshadowed by the nuanced depiction of child abuse, right? Right?
#2: The Portrayal of Colt and the Double Standards Regarding His Treatment of Felix
I have never seen a single show struggle this much to convey a lesson as simple as “Child abuse is bad”.
When it comes to the parents in this show, terrible parents like Gabriel, Audrey, and Tomoe are almost never held accountable for the way they treated their children. If the writers aren't claiming they really love their children deep down, they're either downplaying how cruel they are at best or playing their behavior for laughs at worst. But here we are, the penultimate episode of the fifth season, and we finally have a parent who is unambiguously treated as a terrible human being with no redeeming qualities... and I still have problems with this.
This flashback really goes out of its way to let the audience that Colt was a real piece of scum in life. He only wanted a child out of jealousy, used his Amok to force Felix to do whatever he wanted, was heavily implied to have physically beat him at times, and blamed him for his poor health on his deathbed when he was the one who wanted to use the Peacock in the first place. Now that I think about it, why did Colt even use the Peacock to create Felix instead of Emelie? Was the episode so determined to paint Colt as a bastard that he wanted to be the one to create Felix himself?
The point I'm trying to make is that the show doesn't really explain why Colt was like this. Why was he such an angry man who treated his only child like crap? I don't know, because all the show's telling me is that he was just a dick. He honestly feels more like a caricature than anything else. He's only as terrible of a person he is in order to make the audience sympathize with Felix. I'm not saying that what Felix went through was okay, but it has the same energy as scenes of Gabriel talking to Emilie's body. It's mostly there to make the audience sympathize with an antagonistic character in spite of all the things they've done.
What's really weird is that even though the whole point of this play is so Felix can tell Marinette Gabriel is Monarch, so what does Colt have to do with this? I'm not saying he's not worth mentioning, but it makes no sense for Felix to tell Marinette about his abusive father before he tells her about Gabriel. It feels more like Felix wants to find a way to excuse his actions before telling Marinette about Gabriel being Monarch. And remember when “Derision” made a big deal about Chloe's terrible parents not excusing her actions? Funny how that conveniently doesn't apply to Felix in this episode.
In fact, let's talk about the elephant in the room: The fact that this episode aired right after “Revolution”, an episode that literally said a character living under an abusive and controlling parent was a fitting punishment for her. HOW THE HELL IS THIS ANY DIFFERENT FROM THAT? If anything, this episode really shows the double standards this show has about child abuse, how the only way your situation can be taken seriously is if you're a “good victim”. Chloe's a “bad victim”, so she doesn't get any sympathy when her mother outright says she's going to take control of her life, yet when Colt actually takes control of Felix's life, we're supposed to sympathize with him now. Why am I supposed to feel bad for Felix now when you just told me I shouldn't feel bad for someone in a similar situation last episode?
In fact, one theory I have about this backstory is that it was intended to kill two birds with one stone, no pun intended. I believe that this episode wasn't just written to give us more insight into who Felix is as a character, but also to show the audience what “real” child abuse is like. As far as the show is concerned with Gabriel, Audrey, and Tomoe? They're not actually abusive parents, Colt is, so you should condemn his actions, and not those three. It's blatant double standards, which is nothing new for this show.
#3: The Way Amelie Just... Lets This All Happen
In my “Derision” review, I discussed how strange it was that so many people in Marinette's life did nothing to help her against Chloe, and the same thing applies here with Amelie.
This episode never really explains where Amelie was when Colt was abusing Felix, much less if she was even aware of it. At least with Marinette's parents, they didn't know because most of Marinette's suffering was at school. Amelie lives with Felix and Colt, so what's her excuse? She seriously didn't overhear Colt yelling at Felix or notice the orders Colt gave Felix? Was she just that ignorant to her child's suffering? Remember, this is supposed to be Felix's good parent.
In fact, does Amelie even know Felix is a Sentimonster? Yeah, “Emotion” established that Amelie knows Felix is Argos, but this episode doesn't really make it clear if she knows Felix is a Sentimonster or not. If it was clear Amelie knew nothing about what Felix really was, it would arguably make things easier to stomach, as she wouldn't know the power Colt had over him.
Instead, even though she's Felix's mother, the show doesn't really explain what she actually did when Colt was making Felix's life a living hell, especially since the flashback says that Amelie was forced to marry Colt, so you can't even say she was blinded by love here. Hell, I'm not even sure if Amelie knew the cause of Colt's untimely passing.
#4:This Doesn’t Really Do Much to Explain Felix’s Actions
Now before you say I'm being insensitive, let me make one thing clear: My issue isn't with the fact that this was done to get the audience to sympathize with Felix. The problem I have is that the backstory doesn't do enough to explain why Felix did the things he did.
Okay, Felix wants the Peacock Miraculous. Understandable, he doesn't want to die, so he has to do morally questionable things to preserve his life like betraying the only person capable of stopping the man who can kill him. What's less understandable is his plan to get the Peacock Miraculous from Gabriel. You'll notice that the backstory didn't mention Felix's first appearance, where he only stole the rings belonging to Amelie's family, and he didn't even think to look for the Peacock. Instead, it cuts from Felix realizing he's a Sentimonster to him striking a deal with Gabriel, not even mentioning that he gave Gabriel back one of the rings as part of the deal, which still makes no sense.
If Felix's goal from the start was to get the Peacock Miraculous, why did he bother stealing all of Marinette's Miraculous as a bargaining chip for the deal instead of the family ring? In fact, why did Felix even steal the ring and wait an entire season to trade it back to Gabriel for the Peacock a season later? And for someone who claims to care about Adrien, he really didn't see anything wrong with giving Gabriel one of the two rings capable of overriding his free will.
As a matter of fact, why the hell is Felix even so hostile towards Adrien? Why did he go out of his way to smear his reputation in his debut episode if all he wanted to do was make a bargain with Hawkmoth? In “Risk”, he mocked Adrien for how he talked, while Adrien himself was aware of how he made him look bad in front of his friends, and that's not even getting into how he made himself look like Adrien as part of his plan to betray Ladybug, which would have screwed him even more if Adrien wasn't already Cat Noir. For someone who claims he wants to protect him from Gabriel, Felix really doesn't care about his cousin all that much.
In fact, why does Felix even hate Gabriel at all? The show hinted that the two had a history, yet during the backstory, which I need to remind you, was told from Felix's perspective on the events, has a surprisingly generous portrayal of Gabriel. Did Felix know Gabriel was Hawkmoth/Shadowmoth/Monarch during his first appearance? Does Felix blame Gabriel for how Colt treated him growing up? Does Felix hate Gabriel for how he treats Adrien? Did Gabriel intend to get Colt sick in the first place? Seriously, what is Felix's deal with Gabriel?!
youtube
How does a flashback organized by Felix himself do nothing to really explain why he did the things he did?
#5: The Fact That There Are STILL Several Unanswered Questions Here
For something meant to fill the audience in on several important topics, there are still so many questions about the history of the Agreste and Graham de Vanily families.
Other than the vague backstory about them being rich, we still know nothing about Emilie and Amelie other than them being rich and possibly infertile. We don't know if Amelie ever loved Colt, if she knew he was abusing Felix, or if she even knew if he used the Peacock to play god.
On a related note, why did Emilie and Gabriel decide to use the Peacock Miraculous to create a son instead of adopting? Scratch that, why did she specifically create a Sentimonster to give birth to like a normal baby? Was there some kind of Macbeth-esque guideline that Emilie had to give birth to a child in order for said child to get the inheritance? Did she use the ring to control Adrien like Gabriel does now? Seriously, this is the character the show's conflict is all based around, and we still know nothing about her other than the fact that she was nice.
This flashback just makes no sense, and is such a stupid and confusing way to deliver exposition.
Anyway, during all this, Cat Noir and Nightormentor are fighting, and for the third time this season, Cat Noir attempts to Cataclysm him someone, even when he had Nightormentor pinned down. Nightormentor breaks free and hits Cat Noir with his magic dust, causing him to hallucinate... Cat Blanc?
Tumblr media
Yeah, the script calls this form “Anticat”, but given how it looks like a reused Cat Blanc model coupled with the petrified people of Paris, this is clearly meant to bring Cat Blanc to mind. The problem is that NEITHER CAT NOIR OR NIGHTORMENTOR KNOW ABOUT THAT. Why would you remind audiences about an Akuma that technically never existed?
Better yet, is this what Cat Noir trying to his Cataclysm on people this past season (Destruction, Jubilation, Derision) has been building up to? The fear that he'll lose control? You could have fooled me, as he never really showed that much remorse for almost hurting people other than Monarch. Yeah, you could argue that because Nightormentor based his hallucinations off his victims' worst fears, but again, this fear had little to no buildup this season because Cat Noir never felt any guilt for Cataclysming Monarch after “Destruction”, and whenever tried to use his Cataclysm on other people, Cat Noir never really realized the weight of his actions. If you want to make a character arc about Cat Noir worrying about hurting people with his powers, go more into the guilt he feels for hurting Monarch and using that guilt to affect his actions. Don't just use some “Cat Blanc” nostalgia bait to convince the audience that there's been a character arc.
Nightormentor takes advantage of Cat Noir's emotional state to get his Miraculous, only for the Resistance to save Cat Noir by... throwing stuff at him. And this is how they defeat him. While Nino, Alya, Ivan, and Zoe distract Nightormentor, Kim and Max help Cat Noir focus, Cat Noir Cataclysms Nightormentor's baton.
Zoe traps the Akuma in a jar, Cat Noir doesn't take it, he heads off to detransform and confess to Marinette, only for the hallucination to still affect him since Ladybug didn't use Miraculous Ladybug to fix the damage, and even though he knows it's just a hallucination, he still uses it as a reason to not reveal his identity to Marinette, even after Ladybug de-evilizes the Akuma herself.
The episode ends with Gabriel and Tomoe locking Adrien and Kagami in these white rooms while under heavy surveillance to ensure they won't escape, vowing to start “Operation: Perfect Alliance”. Because these two like using the word “perfect” more than they like subjecting their children to what one of my anons referred to as “white torture”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because that's a good way to keep your children under control: psychological torment.
Other than the stuff with Felix and Kagami, this episode was pretty dull.
There's just not much I can really say here. The plot was barebones, all Marinette did was listen to Felix and Kagami's story so the writers didn't have to involve any of them in the main conflict, and even Cat Noir confronting his akumatized father doesn't have a lot of weight to it because towards the end, it focuses more on Adrien's nightmare instead of his relationship with his father.
This episode is nothing more than a prologue for the final battle. It's only here to establish Adrien and Kagami's presence in London, Marinette learning Gabriel is Monarch, and even more setup for Gabriel and Tomoe's final plan. And trust me, the buildup will be far from worth it.
THE BIGGEST IDIOT OF THE EPISODE IS... FELIX
Tumblr media
It's amazing. The only time this season Felix goes out of his way to actually help Ladybug, and he still screws it up. He abducted Kagami from her hotel in London without thinking of Tomoe hunting him down again when that was the entire plot of “Pretension”, only decided to tell Marinette he knows who Monarch is because he's getting in the way of his relationship with his girlfriend, did so in an unnecessarily convoluted way, and even though he made a big deal about not wanting to use Sentimonsters in his last appearance, he still used one to tell Marinette his life story instead of just saying “My uncle is Monarch”.
And if you think Felix will get a chance to truly redeem himself in the finale, think again, bucko. Other than a brief cameo, this is the last thing he'll do this season. Aren't you glad the writers made this character prominent for seven episodes over three seasons and did nothing else with him?

oh anon, i am definitely the wrong person for this one, but here goes nothing:
- - - - - -
Lena has a secret.
No, it isn't that she’s doubling as a superhero in her free time. That’s Kara.
And no, it isn't that she has an unquenchable crush on her best friend. They'd solved that eons ago.
And definitely no, it isn’t that her toy collection is extensive and well-stocked. Everyone at game night already knows about that.
The secret went like this:
“What are you doing?”
“Nothing,” Lena replied with the innocence of a Luthor.
“So it just so happens that the bartender who has been making eyes at you all night is now being sized-up by my sister?”
“Correlation without causation. I thought you were a scientist,” Lena shrugged and tried her best to conceal a knowing smile.
“Uh-huh,” Alex replied with an arched eyebrow that said much more. “And that fact he grabbed your ass on the way to the bathroom?”
“Doesn’t ring a bell.”
“Well I for one am not about to do a bunch of paperwork over an NDA because Kara can’t keep it together over this ass-hat groping you, so if you will excuse me-”
- - - -
And this:
“Hey babe?”
“Hm?”
“What’s this?”
Lena looked up from her work and squinted at the letter gripped in Kara’s hand.
“Oh, it’s nothing. Just some administrative stuff,” Lena hummed and returned to her work.
“Doesn’t look like ‘nothing’. It looks like you were served.”
The scowl that followed was one that could be seen from space which meant it was impossible to ignore from across their apartment. Lena rolled her eyes.
“It’s just Morgan Edge playing bully again, darling.”
“Yea but,” Kara continued, eyes skimming the multi-page document that now had a few extra crinkles in it. “He’s suing for patent rights? Who does he think he is-”
“It’s nothing, really. I’ll handle it tomorrow.”
“You shouldn’t have to handle it in the first place.”
“It’s fine. Let’s just-”
But Kara was already gone through the terrace door and halfway across the city.
- - - -
And most of all, this:
“Ms. Luthor, The Sun has accused you of covering up nearly a dozen fatalities since-”
“Lena Luthor, it has been alleged that Obsidian North’s stolen technology was found in L-Corp’s latest-”
“Ms. Luthor, how do you explain the recent deaths associated with-”
“How do you sleep at night when your maniac brother is still on the loose-”
“No comment,” Lena repeated for the eighteenth time. She pushed ahead, trying to find a path between L-Corp’s front door and the waiting car that would take her home. Unfortunately, the best path was also the longest. Worse, when she looked ahead, her car was nowhere to be found. What she did find was wall-to-wall traffic and no chance of freedom.
Great.
More questions were hurled, a flash sent blotches across her vision. Another came an inch away and sent her staggering. It felt like a garbage compactor except worse because garbage compactors weren’t sentient creatures known for shouting lies while doing its job.
She clambered through the crowd and found a gap. She glanced around for her security guard who was lost amidst a second offshoot of angry journalists and misinformed citizens. Now wasn’t the time for manners as three journalists and an oversized camera pivoted toward her, so instead of waiting, she booked it down the sidewalk.
They followed with vigor and ignorance and a stubbornness that would have made Lillian proud, shouting rather uncreative conspiracy theories and growing closer by the second. Lena turned a corner then, in a move she might have patted herself on the back for, slipped into an alley. She breathed a sigh of relief until-
“Ms. Luthor-”
“Lena Luthor-”
“-you can’t hide from the truth.”
“Oh for fuck’s sake,” Lena heaved, staggering backwards in the kind of stereotypical way she mocked television shows for.
The cameraman was fastest, breaking into her personal space and jamming the lens into her face.
“Ms. Luthor-”
“-is it true Supergirl won’t speak to you?”
“-how does it feel having National City’s Darling reject you?”
What happened next might have been comical if Lena weren’t breathless, irritated, and fuming that her anniversary dinner was being interrupted by a wave of wannabe reporters hanging onto the coattails of the marketing dollars that funded their tabloids.
Be that as it was, she was not in her usual smirky-mood when the burst of air sent all of them turning on heel to find an equally irritated and equally fuming Supergirl towering over them with the kind of anger usually reserved for the extra-bad baddies.
“S-supergirl,” they all seemed to whimper in unison.
The camera was fumbled then dropped. The lens splintered with a deserved crack. A few short seconds later, it was the only evidence anyone with a press badge had been there.
“Where’d you take them?” Lena asked when Kara whooshed down moments later. She pushed off the brick wall and closed the distance, raising her hands to fix Kara’s ruffled cape.
“I considered the middle of the Pacific-” Kara shrugged.
“Oh is that right?” Lena smirked, letting her hands climb to brush an errant strand of hair into place.
“But then I remembered the whole ‘hope, help, and compassion’ thing,” she continued, her own hands finding a home on Lena’s waist. “So I dropped them off just outside the city limits instead.”
And there it was: the secret. Somewhere between Kara, all beet-faced and rage hovering over the cowering reporters and then dragging said group of gaggling reporters to the edges of town, Lena felt it - that tiny pang of warmth and safety and appreciation that always came with her overprotective Kryptonian. It also usually sent a tiny pang of something else through her.
“Well that was very big of you,” Lena replied, the gap between lips narrowing. “But just so you know,” she continued, her breath ghosting across Kara’s lips, “I had it handled-”
Kara skipped her lines and closed the gap, pressing lips, hands, and body against Lena until her back found the brick wall again and nothing but the taste, touch, and smell of Kara consumed her. Lips dragged to Lena’s jawline then neck then exposed shoulder. Hands grabbed against the restrictions of fabric. Lena cursed (again) the constraints of a supersuit.
“I really need to design you a new suit,” Lena huffed.
“Probably for the best.” Kara replied, fingers venturing dangerously close to public indecency. “Alex says we need to leave before someone sees us anyway.”
“Tell Alex to stop committing voyeurism. There are websites for that.”
“Oh, she did not like that,” Kara snickered, lips pressing a final kiss to the crook of Lena’s neck.
“Turn that thing off and take me home, Supergirl.”
“What about our reservations?”
“I have other dinner plans tonight.”

Alt Assistant AU #3
The moment an aggressive investor gets into Lena's face, Kara immediately squares up. One moment she's discreetly taking notes for the meeting, and the next she's staring down a pompous middle aged man in an overpriced suit. Her rage simmers, and though he sees it and momentarily quails, he stubbornly keeps up the front.
"Sit down, Mr. Ferber," Lena says smoothly.
Despite the even cadence of her boss's voice, Kara can hear the displeasure behind the words. Not for the man who moved to intimidate her, but for Kara, who had unwittingly undermined Lena's ability to handle herself under fire.
Kara almost feels bad about it.
Sure enough, after the meeting concludes, Lena leads the way back to her office with a low "my office, now" as she passes.
Following obediently, Kara braces herself as the door swings shut behind her. But instead of the rage she expects, Lena's temper is ice cold.
"Do that again," she says, her words shapr and precise, "and you will no longer have a position at LuthorCorp. Do you understand me?"
Kara, for the first time in ages, fiddles with her glasses. "Understood."
"Get out."
She immediately slips out of the room, feeling the sting of the reprimand for the rest of the afternoon.
It turns to anger as the sun dips below the horizon, and after Lena's final meeting heads towards the elevator, Kara barely waits for the doors to slide shut before she slips into Lena's office to brief her on the next day's meetings.
"I'm not going to stand by and watch some asshole lay his hands on you," she says with an edge in her voice. "Fire me all you want."
"You overestimate Ferber's mettle, Ms. Danvers."
"And you underestimate the lengths they'll go to remind you that you're lesser than them."
"Nor do I need to list off my qualifications to defend myself--"
"Lena--"
"Additionally, I would have thought you'd be pleased to see someone knock me down a peg."
The accusation nearly knocks Kara off her feet. It hits her in the chest, making her stomach drop out from under her.
"Whatever I've said to you in the past," Kara clips out before the lump in her throat strangles her, "I would never wish harm on anyone. Let alone you."
"Could've fooled me."
In an instant, Kara has crossed the invisible boundary of the Lena's desk between them, taking Lena's wrist in a firm, assured grip.
"Then I was wrong," she delivers, her voice a thrum in her chest. "And an idiot."
Lena shoots a shocked glance down at Kara's hand, then flashes her gaze up to meet Kara's. The air suddenly thickens, charged with something unspoken at their sudden proximity.
Instead of pulling away, Kara leans in.
"There are some things I am willing to risk in this universe," she says. "You are not one of them."
She remains there, holding Lena's gaze for a long moment before finally letting her hand slip away.
"Have a good night, Miss Luthor."

Lena is sat at her desk as a migraine wages war on her head. She tries to focus on the computer screen in front of her but its hard not to notice the rest of the room spinning around it. She sighs, exhausted with her efforts, and leans back in her chair closing her eyes for a second to take a break from the brightness of her office.
Her moment of peace is short lived though when Jess comes in to ask her about something to do with a spreadsheet? Lena just nods having no idea what she just agreed to but she trusts Jess enough to know it will probably be okay.
"Ms. Luthor, are you alright? You seem... off" Jess adds before she leaves to go back to her desk.
"Yeah, just a headache" Lena tries to reassure her assistant though she feels herself get slightly closer to throwing up with each word.
When Jess leaves she tries to refocus on her work but once again it is all too much. She hears her mothers voice in her head pointing out her fragility 'you always were prone to migraines'. God, Lillian is the last person she needs in head right now.
Suddenly her thoughts are interrupted as a gust of wind forces it's way into her office. Lena spins round to see Kara standing on the balcony.
She smiles, "What brings you here?"
"Jess texted, she said you seemed like you weren't feeling well," Kara places a soft kiss on Lena's forhead "so I came to take you home."
"You didn't have to do that..." Lena tries to protest.
"Well I wasn't just going to let my girlfriend suffer" she offers her hand to Lena "come on, lets get you home"
Lena is too tired to argue so she just nods and lets Kara pick her up into a bridle carry and nestles her head in the crook of her girlfriends neck snuggling up in the warmth of kryptonian body heat all the way home.

♕ No Matter What | Lena Luthor ♕
Tumblr media
Pairing: Lena Luthor x reader
Warnings: none

Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10 | Part 11
________________________________________________
“Sam, I really don’t think this is a good idea,” I hiss as the elevator doors slide shut behind us.
The security guard we just passed in the lobby was eyeing me the entire time while Sam explained our business to the woman behind the reception.
She seemed to recognize the brunette, which was somewhat of a relief because the next time her eyes met mine she smiled politely.
The security guard’s stare however did not waver and it made my skin crawl.
Yes, he’s supposed to be intimidating and scrutinizing, it’s what he’s payed for after all, working for National City’s most infamous tech-billionaire, but it didn’t soothe the nervousness bubbling in my stomach.
“It’s a little late for that now,” Sam deadpans, raising an eyebrow. “You know, with you having already signed the contract and all…”
I roll my eyes at her theatrics and shove her gently. “God, you’re the worst.“
Yes, I did sign a contract, but it doesn’t change the fact that the person I’m supposed to be a bodyguard for has expressed her doubt concerning the necessity of my presence time and time again until Sam finally got through to her.
She also very much has the power to destroy my life and possible future careers if she doesn’t like me or my performance, which isn’t something I’m particularly excited about.
I clench and unclench my fists, the feeling of cold sweat running down my back doing nothing to soothe me.
Pull yourself together!
I haven’t been this nervous in a long time. The last time was over a year ago before everything went wrong.
“Hey.” Sam’s soft voice brings me back to reality and when I meet her eyes I find her watching me with genuine concern. “You’re perfect for the job, stop worrying about it and Lena is—“ she laughs softly—“Well, she’s Lena.”
I scoff. “Wow, okay. That is not helpful. . . at all.”
Sam giggles and before long the elevator stops its ascent and opens its doors, revealing a polished white hallway.
We get out and I follow Sam to a sleek wooden door.
This is it.
“Lena?” Sam knocks, but it’s more of a courtesy than anything else because she pulls out a key card the next second and swipes it through the reader next to the door. It beeps quietly, a green light flashing for a moment before the door clicks open.
“Lena?” Sam tries again, stepping into the apartment. I follow her cautiously and look around, taking in the open floor plan.
The white leather couches are elegant and tasteful, the glass coffee table between them reflecting the morning sun shining through the floor to ceiling windows.
There’s a fireplace which doesn’t look used and a couple of expensive looking paintings on the walls.
“Sam! You’re early,” a voice greets us and when I follow Sam around the corner my eyes land on her.
Lena Luthor.
She’s in her kitchen, which is also part of the open floor plan, standing behind the island and making tea.
Tea? I pegged her as a coffee person, what with all her early morning meetings and late night conferences.
Now slightly curious, I take a step closer and look her over.
She’s nothing like I expected. She’s wearing makeup, yes, and her hair is in a sleek ponytail which screams business, but her simple purple sweater and bluejeans make her look. . . soft.
“You must be Y/N.”
I snap to attention, hoping to God I wasn’t caught staring.
“Yes! Yes, that’s me,” I blurt out. “Nice to meet you Ms. Luthor.”
The young Luthor eyes me skeptically and simply raises an eyebrow when I step forward and raise my hand from her to shake.
I gulp and send Sam a helpless look.
“Lena, we talked about this,” she warns her friend with a pointed glare. “Play nice.”
The billionaire relents and takes my hand, shaking it once before letting go. “It’s nice to meet you, too.”
Sam clears her throat which prompts the other woman to add, “And you can call me Lena.”
I laugh uncomfortably and waver her off. “Oh, no, that’s not necessary, Ms. Luthor.“
Sam and Lena both seem surprised by the refusal but neither of them linger on it.
“Alright then,” Lena says, taking a sip of her tea before turning to Sam. “I’ll see you at the office?”
“Yeah,” the brunette affirms. “Lunch?”
Lena smiles. “Sounds good.”
They share a quick hug and I catch a glimpse of Sam whispering something in Lena’s ear which makes the latter roll her eyes playfully.
“I mean it,” Sam warns as they break apart, though there’s a glint of amusement in her eyes.
Lena huffs and takes another sip of her tea, watching over the rim of the cup as Sam squeezes my forearm.
“Good luck,” she mumbles. “Try and have some fun.“
Ha! Fun. . . I bet that word isn’t even in Lena’s vocabulary.
I don’t voice my thoughts, simply bidding Sam goodbye when she squeezes my arm again and before long she’s gone, leaving me alone under the predatory gaze of my new boss.
Shifting uncomfortably in my spot, I look around the apartment once again while Lena finishes her tea.
Yeah, this was not a good idea.
I should have stuck to living off my separation pay and the little money I make teaching self defense classes.
It’s too late to back out now, I remind myself. The only thing making all of this bearable at the moment is the knowledge that my contract runs out in a year.
“Just take a seat, will you,” Lena says, the exasperation in her voice making my insides clench uncomfortably.
I get it, she doesn’t want me here and quite frankly I don’t want to be here either, but Sam was right when she came to me last week.
“You can’t keep waisting away in your apartment,” she’d said. “You need a distraction, and I’ve got the perfect job for you.”
Let’s just see where this goes, I think before moving to take a seat on the stool by the kitchen island.
Lena seems satisfied that I listened and places her empty mug in the kitchen sink.
“We’re leaving for the office in half an hour. You can stay here while I get ready,“ she informs me, checking her phone.
Then, without another word she turns and disappears into what I’m assuming is her bedroom.
It’s going to be a long year…

Supercorptober 2023
“People are a lot more knowable than they think they are.”  ― Sally Rooney
or a preque and a sequel to day 3 - Kara
---
There are a couple things that are important to know.
One is that Lena Luthor has a specific ringtone for Kara Danvers.
Two is that she never brings her personal phone into the Monthly board meeting that happens on the second Thursday of every month.
Third, whenever there is a concerning report about Supergirl on the news, Jess notices that Kara Danvers always calls.
Today is the second Thursday of October.
So Lena did not see the news.
Did not see Supergirl bleeding on the ground.
Did not see the camera cut out before she could get up.
And it wouldn't usually worry her so much.
Except Kara hasn't called.
"Jess?" Lena's confusion is palpable, etched across her features as Jess opens the door a little harder and a little quicker than she probably meant to.
"Ms. Luthor, I'm sorry—I'm so, so sorry to interrupt, but…" The sound of her own voice rang through Jess's ears as she stammered out the words. They get caught in her throat, unsure how much she's supposed to know, what she's supposed to say.
She could feel the weight of Lena's gaze on her, like something physical.
"I'm sorry, everyone, I'm sorry, but I…I have to go," her voice wavering slightly as she addressed the board members seated around the conference table.
Jess watched in equal parts relief and trepidation as Lena rose from her chair, her expression a blend of determination and vulnerability.
Jess stays behind for a second. Reassures the board members, still sitting there unmoored in their seats, that she will call their offices to reschedule, that Ms. Luthor is sorry, and that they should understand some things like this just can't be avoided.
They exchanged uncertain glances but, in the end, seem to accept the apology, murmuring their understanding as they gathered their belongings,
Jess catches up with Lena in her office.
Jacket half on, struggling to pull the sleeve up her arm as it tries to push past the barrier of her trembling hands. Jess steps up beside her, slides it up for her, meeting her eyes only briefly before she spins back around to finish shrugging it onto both shoulders.
Jess busied herself with gathering her things. Papers, her laptop, and a few others she didn't even really pay attention to.
"Jess, do you see my phone?" Lena asked, her voice strained.
"Right here." Jess hands her the phone that had been tucked under a stack of reports on her desk.
"Thank you," Lena mumbled, looking at it quickly before sliding it into her pocket, frustrated — scared.
Her eyes dart around the room as if looking for something else.
"Do you need a ride somewhere?" Jess ventured tentatively.
"No, no," Lena sighed, running a hand through her hair. "I just need a second."
Jess nodded, her eyes filled with worry.
"Frank's bringing the car, around," Lena said, more to herself than to her.
"Ms. Luthor," Jess began, taking a deep breath, "I know it doesn't help, but I think the news probably always makes it sound worse, you know."
"Thank you, Jess," Lena replied softly, centering back on her at least for a moment before her phone buzzed in her pocket, and then she was gone.
Jess hesitated. There were things she needed to do.
Meetings to reschedule.
She busied herself with tidying Lena's desk instead. Straightening papers, replacing pens in their holders, and ordering new flowers.
It felt more useful somehow.
----
Ms. Luthor calls to tell her she isn't coming in the following day, tells her she should stay home too.
But Jess has work she can get caught up on, and to be honest, she doesn't mind the distraction.
She does, however, mind Kara Danvers showing up in front of her desk just as she's sitting down with her lunch.
"Shit, shit-shit," Jess gasped, dropping her sandwich and knocking over her little cactus sending dirt scattering all over the R&D reports she had just spent all morning organizing.
"Shit!"
"Oh gosh, I'm sorry Jess, I didn't mean to startle you— um here — here let me help."
Kara reaches toward the mess, tilting the pot back upright as she grabs the little cactus, only to quickly drop it back down, pulling her finger away and shaking out her hand.
"Hey, ouch!"
Jess watched in disbelief as Kara shook her hand, trying to dislodge the tiny needles.
And here's the thing.
It should be funny.
It should be funny that a grown woman doesn't realize that palming a cactus like that wouldn't have this exact effect.
It should be funny that Supergirl is standing in front of her with her finger shoved into her mouth to stop it from bleeding after having been viscously attacked by a desk plant.
But here's the thing.
Jess knows Kara is Supergirl.
But the two have still managed to remain very separate in her mind up until know.
So, while the sight of Supergirl bleeding at all is always disconcerting, it's the sight of Supergirl dressed in her boss' girlfriend's clothes bleeding that feels utterly surreal.
Jess takes a deep breath, trying to shake off the shock and confusion.
"Are you okay?" she asks cautiously, eyeing Kara's bleeding finger.
She nods, pulling her finger out of her mouth to examine it.
"Yeah, just a little prick from your uhh, pointy friend there," she says with a small smile pointing with her other hand at the offending plant.
Jess blinks, takes in Kara more fully. The tired look in her eyes, the dinosaur bandaids peaking out from under her sleeves.
"Did you name it yet?"
Jess shakes her head, caught off guard a second time.
"No…I-uh, hadn't uh —"
Then, a third.
"Kara?"
Lena's voice echoes from inside her office.
"I'm out here…talking to Jess."
Kara calls back, and Jess watches her carefully tuck her hand into her pocket, hiding any evidence of her bleeding finger as Lena steps out to join them.
"Jess, hi, sorry I didn't think you'd be here since I wasn't coming in."
"Yet here you are as well, Ms. Luthor."
"Yes, well, I wanted to get a few reports to work on from home; I didn't mean to slip in without letting you know."
"I left for a minute to get my lunch." She gestures to the half-eaten sandwich resting in the spilled potting soil.
Lena looks at Kara. "What did you do?"
"Wha-why, why do you think I did anything?"
"Because we both know how clumsy you are without --" Lena's voice trailed off as Jess cleared her throat. Still unsure if she was supposed to know what she knew.
"Let's just say accidents happen."
Kara shot Jess a grateful look as she reached out to pick up the cactus again, but Lena grabbed her wrist gently.
"Are you bleeding?"
"Yes."
"No"
"Ugh…Yes and No. I was, but it stopped."
She holds out her finger for Lena to get a closer look.
"I tried picking up Gerald…and I didn't realize how prickly they were."
"Gerald?" Jess asks confused
Kara points to the cactus.
"You said you hadn't named them yet, so I was just trying it out."
Lena pinches the bridge of her nose, fighting a smile.
"Okay, well, let's get you both cleaned up then and then buy Jess a new lunch."
"Oh, you don't have to do that. It's fine, really."
"Jess, please, let's get lunch.
Lena looked between her and Kara who was looking anywhere else now.
"There appear to be some things we both need to tell each other."
She smiled — and nodded.
"Okay, yes, thank you, let me just put a few things away."
She grabs the R&D reports, dusting them off a little.
Comes back just in time to see Lena gingerly picking up the cactus.
Hears Kara's gentle warning.
"Be careful, Gerald can be feisty."
Sees Lena poke her finger into her chest.
"I have enough to worry about with you, Kara, please don't make me add succulents to the list of things that can harm Supergirl."
Knows both of them could probably do with being a little more careful with the rate they find themselves in trouble.
