what still kills me about marie/marie is that its so fucking unnecessary. we as the audience had NEVER heard of grandma lynch beyond a vague mention in opal. she could have just NOT done the two maries. it added nothing. we could have saved an entire 3 pages to maybe use to answer ANY OF THE TEN BILLION QUESTIONS WE ALREADY HAD

hi there! very random, but i’ve been wondering whether or not i should register for the april trc webinar, and since i’ve seen your posts from the one in jan, i wanted to ask — would you recommend it/did you enjoy it? i think i would like it, i just dont know enough abt it and i’m terrified of spending that much (my country’s currency,,, the us dollar,,,, very far apart asgehhd) on smth only for it to be something different than to what i thought lol😭. i’m just kinda looking for smth w/ tidbits abt trc and some writing advice — was it like that for you, kind of?
Hey!! Thanks for asking, I know other people have been curious about it in the tags so maybe this will help. First off I wanna say that if you want something cheaper, she has a prerecorded 8-hour writing seminar available for $29 here, which is a steal bc I think it was like $80 when I bought it. I haven’t gone through the whole thing yet, but from what I have watched I can say its a very structured step-by-step guide to writing a novel, where she does give examples of her writing process from her own books, including trc. The main difference between that and the live webinar is that the live webinar is live, and it’s SOLELY trc-focused - meaning she still presents very structured topics for novel writing but uses only trc to illustrate her points. It’s definitely tailored to series-writing and young adult-writing. I would say you are also way more likely to get tidbits and behind the scenes insights into her trc writing process and early drafts - though because its live there’s a chance she may have said some things in the one I attended that she wouldn’t say in the other or vice versa. You also get to ask questions in the live one which makes the experience unique.
In other words, beyond the live aspect, I would say the pre-recorded seminar is for anyone who wants to write a novel and is maybe a fan of her books, whereas the live webinar is for people who are fans of trc and maybe want to write a novel. Does that make sense?
Let me know if you want to know anything else, but I hope this helps a little!

With her writing, i adore cars
Or all the mentions of deep red colour and the sea in Scorpio races? Please its amazingg
My favorite thing about Maggie Stiefvater books is that they are so full of things the author loves. Even if you don’t know a lot about the author, read more than one of her books and you’ll see. They’re full of cars and horses and art and Irish myth. And the consequence of all that love is, even though I personally hate cars, I love cars in Maggie Stiefvater books because that’s how good of a writer she is, just bursting with love for the world

invitation to elaborate on jordanessy-ronsey parallels (I did make a post about jordanessy-adansey parallels I see although I need to remake it at some point because the original wasn’t too coherent..probably after I’m done rereading) I can see the codependency parallel and the idea of Jordan/Gansey kind of being the person who kept Hennessy/Ronan alive for a long time in a sense at least from the latter chars pov, but curious about the rest!
Yeah so my initial thought was similar to what you said here.
But also- I feel like Hennessy and Ronan felt incredibly alienated from Jordan and Gansey.
They both percieve the other half of the relationship to be much more stable than they are and more adjusted to the real world.
Ronan and Hennessy find each other, in their period of mourning (loss of gangsey and loss of the extended Hennessy clone universe), as they revert to the mindset of being a lone person fighting against the entire world.
Gansey was the line standing in between Ronan and dream-suicide, just like Jordan stands in between Hennessy and regular suicide. I don’t remember if there are more examples of this in Jordan’s narration, but it’s shown in the roof party scene if I remember correctly.
Jordan is able to be an artist. Gansey is able to be wild and free. Hennessy feels like she can only make copies. Ronan feels like the second he gains freedom and ability to be wild, he gets hurt (Kavinsky, depression in the barns, aka his favourite place in the world).
Hennessy and Ronan both “bite” Jordan and Gansey for being too protective of them, even though they know they need the other to keep them in line (or believe to need them).
Jordan and Gansey were also both at some point primary caretakers of Hennessy and Ronan when it comes to “dreaming” as a disability.
Ronan and Hennessy both hate and express extreme jealousy over Gansey’s and Jordan’s romantic partners and close friendships (possesiveness due to the feeling that they don’t deserve the other).
Just some of my loose thoughts!!! Feel free to add more:3.

have you read the brave-inspired book maggie stiefvater wrote a couple of years ago? i was excited for it but i couldn't go past a couple pages it was so boring the way it was written it didn't seem like her at all. idk. thoughts?
yeah i read it a few years ago! it was entertaining enough that i was able to fly through it in a day, but it was by no means life changing. i get what you mean, it's middle grade, so it definitely feels veeery different from her other work
tbh the only reason i picked it up was bc i'd already read most of her other books, so it just felt Right to complete the collection... i went into it w/ pretty low expecations, so i didn't end up too disappointed. i think i rated it 3 stars on gr in the end
u could probably have some fun with it if you pick it up again when ur in the mood for smth quick and whimsical, and if can separate it in your mind from her other work... but don't force it ofc

i wish i had never learned that the dreamer trilogy was meant to be an adult story set years after trc with a more personal and less apocalyptic plot but maggie couldn't publish it unless it stayed YA. facts that make you go "art is dead question mark?"

looked up welsh mythology related to Glendower and the first result was someone’s thesis paper that they wrote on Welsh and Celtic mythology in The Raven Cycle. Which I am in fact reading rn
