of the devil is one of the best and most exciting mystery VNs i've ever played

with some of the most nuanced, cutting, and consistently charming characterization i've read in !!! anything! sometimes you realize a scene is a character thesis and then it clicks and you realize that *every scene before that* has been that same fucking thesis in disguise and it does it a hundred times, just building building building on itself until you learn the secret language to analyze every line a hundred times over

(and then pushes you into the deep end where you realize your assumptions are so much messier than you realized and you have to start all over, which is also exactly what all of the characters are doing to each other constantly. a game about people reading people, trying to get you to struggle and focus to do the same, and rewards you when you get it right.)

incredibly fascinating cyberpunk worldbuilding that draws you in, with really fucking pointed themes of dehumanization, learning how to be a person (and the alienation that comes from "needing" to), societal trends and politics in the digital age, surveillance states, commercialization of bodies, commercialization of *androids*, corporate vs state power... and casual queerness that doesn't brush under the rug how that queerness intersects with this setting's politics

it's insightful and energizing and funny!!! i laughed out loud multiple times and it kind of got hazy sometimes whether it was out of amusement or excitement or nervousness or the elation of an epiphany

and it made me cry, and made my skin crawl, and made me pace around the room thinking about how this murder could have happened while also rotating the politics of bodies, how all of these characters view power in a world of individual powerlessness, and the intersecting ways they try so hard to connect with people/defend themselves from the responsibility of needing to.

(also there's slowburn cat-and-mouse toxic lesbians who are technically coworkers. the defense attorney and the prosecutor. i could write an entire fucking post on them alone holy shit)

the fact that it's being released episodically is absolutely a good idea as far as funding it and releasing it and works really well as an *episodic* mystery game and also is making me fucking insane there's only two cases, only one of which is a full chapter.

legitimately my only wish point is i *wish* chapter 1 was longer, not because it was too short (good length for what it is imo! especially with how concentratedly *good* it is), but because it's so compelling i could've been locked in for an entire day more and i seriously doubt it could've overstayed its welcome

giselle likes the idea of watching people’s eyes, she especially likes watching your eyes. she’s spent practically every second of her trainee days analyzing what each change of your eyes means. she knows what they mean when they stare back at giselle’s, the slight raise in the eyebrow and the warm cheeks, you like giselle. with this newfound information, giselle was more confident thinking of a plan to confess to you.

but recently, giselle is finding it harder to trust the meaning behind your eyes, despite seeing the love and joy spill from your gaze, she sees something different in them, a new contendor, namely yunjin.

yunjin had been an old trainee with you and the rest of aespa. a rare foreign trainee from america, you were immediately intrigued, often asking yunjin new phrases in english, or what the culture is like in america. giselle remembers you explaining that your older sister had moved to america when you were younger, leaving an amazing impression of the country. when yunjin returned to korea and debuted in le sserafim, you were overjoyed to spend time with her again.

currently, giselle watches with stern eyes as yunjin shares photo of the states with you. she watches the hand that is wrapped around your chair as you lean into yunjin to get a better view of her phone. giselle also eyes the way yunjin’s eye flits between her phone and your eyes. a gaze she doesn’t enjoy.

giselle rolls her eyes and walks away from the aespa green room to cool off her mind from the sight of you and yunjin. winter gives karina a knowing look and both of them laugh while you’re confused why giselle walked out of the room.

“well i have to go back to the girls, but dont be a stranger, ill see you later cutie!” yunjin gave you a tight hug and waved to the other girls and left. after yunjin left, karina and winter burst into even louder laughter.

“what? what’s so funny?” you look between the two girls, winter doubles over and jimin continues laughing and pointing at winter. ningning on the other hand looks at you with an amused smile.

“you should go find giselle, these two are just being foolish.” ningning points to the door, she sighs and tries offering a hand to winter while you stare at all three of them in confusion.

walking out of the green room into the long hallways of inkigayo makes you more nervous, theres so many people it would be hard to spot giselle. you try and stand on your tippy toes multiple times walking around to find giselle at the vending machine.

“hey, you okay?” you stand next to giselle.

she continues looking at the drinks. not lifting her eyes. “yes.”

“are you sure? you left the room suddenly, is your stomach okay?” you offer, giselle looks even more upset.

“im fine, why don’t you ask yunjin if she’s okay?” giselle bites out, now she stares into your eyes with an unexpected intensity.

“yunjin? why would i ask her if she’s okay?” giselle rolls her eyes and walks away from you, away from the aespa waiting room.

“hey wait! giselle!” she grabs your hands and pulls you into the girls bathroom.

“why can’t you see that yunjin is into you?” giselle puts one hand on her hip and another on the sink. you’re thrown off but clearly nervous because giselles never acted like this before.

“she’s not into me! shes just showing me pictures of her trip to new york.” you try to explain but giselle is nodding her head no.

“that girl keeps trying to put her arm around your waist and you don’t even bat an eye!” giselle is exasperated and frustrated.

“i didn’t notice that, but i don’t understand why you’re upset at me?” you’re trying to figure out where you went wrong.

“you dummy, i know you’re into me, you shouldn’t entertain other people.” she hardens her tone, meanwhile you’re speechless.

“how did you even find out?” you let out while running your hands through your hair. you try and quickly think of all the signs that you might have dropped on accident. you thought you were subtle enough that no one would notice.

“you absolute idiot, of course i noticed, im into you too dummy.” she explains as if it's common knowledge. by now you're even more taken aback, giselle never showed interest in you, which is why you never even confessed to her.

“wait, you like me back? like you’re not joking?” you try to wrap your head around the conversation, but you're too stunned by all the new information.

giselle groans and stomps her foot, going silent and starting to walk out of the bathroom, you grab her hand and keep her from walking away.

“giselle, do you mean it? you like me back?” you grow more confident and stare into her eyes, you watch them become more vulnerable.

“yes, i really do. will you please stop letting yunjin flirt with you?” she pleads with a quiet voice.

“of course. come here.” you hug her tightly and wrap your arms around her waist. she tucks her head into your chest, and you smile and kiss her on the cheek.

“i know why you’re so upset.” you say in a teasing tone, she tenses up and attempts to push herself away from you, you instead hold her tighter against you.

“yeah, why do you think im upset?” giselle rolls her eyes at your knowing smile.

“you’re jealous of yunjin aren’t you?” you even poke at her cheek and giggle when she tries swatting your hand away,

“shut up, dummy.” she groans.

“i knew it!” you laugh loudly and she starts pinching your cheeks. “ow ow ow! giselle!”

“stop laughing, its not funny.”

“it is funny because you have nothing to be jealous about, i only want you aeri.” she smiles widely and grows embarrassed. “plus im pretty sure she’s in love with kazuha” giselle nods as you explain yunjin's dynamic with kazuha. “it’s always: zuha would love this! i should get zuha this! do u think zuha likes this shirt?”

“sounds like she needs to grow a pair and confess.” giselle laughs at that.

“what do you think ive been trying to help her with lately….” you let out a groan just thinking about the amount of times yunjin has spammed your phone about her infatuation with kazuha.

“yunjin will figure it out she’s a smart girl….let’s go back to the waiting room.” giselle grabs hold of your hand and you stand straight as a rod.

“yes ma'am!” you smile at giselle, and salute her. all she can see is the beautiful warm eyes that stare back at her, even if you are the siliest person she's met.

Analysis of the EGO Pink Shoes – Hong Lu – Between Loss of Will and Manifestation of Desire

It's been a while since I wanted to analyse all the EGOs of Hong Lu and I finaly found some time while not being able to draw. I know it has already been done numerous time and I may or may not bring anything new but it is always so fun to analyse all these little details.

So let's start with Roseate Desire:

Roseate Desire is the name of the E.G.O linked to the Abnormality Pink Shoes, which is also related to the Abnormality Red Shoes.

I’d like to begin this analysis by quoting a sentence from @sunshades from their analysis of Ishmaël that perfectly encapsulates the intention behind this EGO and immediately reveals the themes running through it:

“It’s more about a loss of your free will and being controlled by an external force.”

I/ Origin of the EGO: Pink Shoes and Red Shoes

This EGO is drawn from an abnormality derived from Red Shoes, known for amplifying the desires and obsessions of those who wear them. It is therefore relevant to start by analyzing Red Shoes and Pink Shoes together in order to better understand how they function.

These two abnormalities share a central theme: control through desire. They possess the power to enslave the individual through their own cravings.

One of the first visible signs of this control manifests through a pinkish glow in the host’s eyes.

In Lobotomy Corporation, this glow in the eyes of Red Shoes’ hosts indicates that the individual is about to confess their deepest desires to the abnormality.

In Pink Shoes, this glow seems permanent. This could indicate that the desire here is more constant, diffuse, less sudden but more invasive.

Why this difference? Perhaps because lust and desire are more similar in their slow consumption than aggressiveness, which erupts with force.

Indeed, Red Shoes manifests desire through aggressiveness, while Pink Shoes manifests it through lust — if we look at their Sin Affinity. (Have to thanks @firestorm09890's post for helpin me seeing clearer on the subject)

Thus, even if both abnormalities play on desire, they express it in different ways:

Red Shoes = Desire → Violence

Pink Shoes = Desire → Seduction, pleasure, subjugation

A telling example is the employee from Lobotomy Corp who, frustrated by unrequited love, becomes violent under the influence of Red Shoes. Here, even though the base theme is love, it’s the expression of desire through anger that is central, because that’s the nature of Red Shoes.

Conversely, with Pink Shoes, it is through almost sensual and suggestive visual elements (ribbons, poses, implicit BDSM codes) and through a feeling of pleasure that desires are manifested, as seen with Hong Lu and Ishmael.

II/ Pink Shoes: A Parasitic Abnormality

1rst Quick Thought: For me—and for many others, if not everyone—E.G.O and Sinners must share a certain kind of resonance. The Sinner (often unconsciously, I think) recognizes a part of themselves in the Abnormality, and the Abnormality, in turn, reflects that part back. It’s this shared element that enables the manifestation of the E.G.O and allows a bond to form between them. However, that shared aspect doesn't have to be the same for every Sinner. After all, an Abnormality can embody multiple themes or ideas simultaneously.

2nd Quick Thought: Still from my point of view, the initial (non-overclocked) use of an Abnormality E.G.O is more closely tied to the Sinner. At that stage, the Abnormality is still held in check, and its history or consciousness doesn’t yet deeply influence the Sinner’s psyche and behaviour. The lines spoken and the visual elements (sprites, etc.) in this phase seem to be more reflective of the Sinner’s own self rather than of the Abnormality

3rd Quick Note: In contrast, the overclocked state clearly allows the Abnormality to exert more influence—taking up more mental and symbolic space within the Sinner. Its psyche begins to seep into the Sinner, even if it remains loosely aligned with their theme or the shared connection between them. That’s why I’m a bit hesitant to interpret overclocked E.G.O lines as being direct expressions of a Sinner’s personal thoughts. To me, these moments are more about the Abnormality expressing itself through the Sinner’s identity, or more precisely, through that shared facet between them.

Last Quick Thought: That being said, even if it’s mostly the Abnormality speaking in this state, the themes or ideas being voiced and in some cases their sprites are still worth paying attention to when analyzing a Sinner—because that idea might be exactly what enabled their bond to form in the first place.

However, for this particular E.G.O, you’ll see that the corrosion may actually be more closely linked to the Sinner than usual.

Now let’s focus on Pink Shoes alone.

With this EGO, the two characters who embody it express variations of the same theme:

Hong Lu: lack of control, loss of free will

Ishmael: obsessive desire, absolute control of desire over will

What is interesting is that the employes reanimated by Pink shoes -- Pink Shoes Enchantee and Pink Shoes Possesse -- seems to represent the 2 aspects of Pink Shoes -- being possessed and being enchanted. And it seems that this is the same thing for Ishmael, representing the enchanting side and Hong Lu representing the possessing side of the abnormality.

Another notable fact: Pink Shoes seems to be the only EGO whose corroded form is represented in its main art. This could indicate that it's worth focusing more on that form than on the base one. Observing the corroded forms of Hong Lu and Ishmael, we note:

The corrosion from Pink Shoes is less violent and “encompassing” than that of other abnormalities. Even Red Shoes expresses its personality more than Pink Shoes does.

It is more intimate, more personal — it doesn’t manifest the will of the abnormality, but that of the host’s desire. What corrodes the host is their desire pushed to the extreme and how it manages to take control.

I would say that in a way, Pink Shoes is not an autonomous, conscious, or imperious abnormality. It acts like a parasite that lives and spreads through the desires of the host. It has no will of its own beyond its instinct to spread, like mold or a fungus. Pink Shoes has only one desire — that of spreading itself and its ribbons through others’ desires.

Thus, corrosion here can be interpreted as the external manifestation of a deeply repressed inner desire, taking control of its host.

Is the corrosion the host’s extreme desire possessing them?

The image of the pink ribbon invading the host’s body is central. It evokes both:

Constraint (bindings, bondage)

Manipulation (puppet strings)

And this idea of the puppet is especially predominant with Hong Lu, more than with Ishmael.

III/ Hong Lu: Between Puppet and Puppeteer

Hong Lu, in his idle sprite, stands like a limp puppet, hanging and waiting to be set in motion. The ribbons trail on the ground, like strings ready to be pulled.

All of this suggests a person being manipulated to satisfy others’ desires.

Even the EGO art shows Hong Lu suspended, vulnerable, dependent on the ribbon — and therefore on an external will.

But what’s even more striking: in his corroded form, his mouth is covered by a pink ribbon.

This means he doesn’t even have the right to speak, not even to express a personal desire. He is instrumentalized, stripped of any personal will.

With Ishmael, it’s the eye that is covered. She can only see her obsessive desire, represented by Pink Shoes.

Her will for vengeance is strong — but ends up consumed by the pleasure and desire distilled by Pink Shoes. She then becomes the agent of propagation for this abnormality, bound to its ribbons, as we see in her corroded form, where she now speaks of charming and wrapping up. Which is Pink Shoes’ primary desire.

Whereas, Hong Lu's desire expressed in its corroded version (so its strongest version) has taking over his mouth so by preventing him from expressing himself and by instrumentalizing him and reducing him to nothing more than a puppet to be manipulated.

And yes, the theme of being others' puppent, deprived of self is a main theme for Hong Lu.

But is that really all there is to it?

IV/ What if Hong Lu wanted to be in control?

One intriguing detail: his weapon is not his usual one. Here, he wears two pairs of gloves. Why, when Ishmael has kept the same weapon shape?

If we follow the puppet theme… gloves are hands that manipulate. What if these gloves were the expression of a deep and unconscious desire from Hong Lu?

What if, despite his apparent passivity in the face of his lack of autonomy, his true desire was to be in control (of himself) — even if that means controlling what controls him?

He would then become the puppeteer of his own puppet. A disturbing mise en abyme:

Unable to see himself as the one in control of his choices, he is forced to separate his desire and place it as his own puppeteer in order to make decisions for himself. Hong Lu cannot act without being someone’s puppet / being told what to do — and even if his desire is to be in control, he can only do so by being his own puppeteer.

Hong Lu is manipulated by Pink Shoes but uses the gloves to manipulate in turn. Pink Shoes makes Hong Lu into the puppeteer, becoming the puppeteer of his own body — a tragic paradox between submission and illusory control.

Maybe we can even link this idea to this diaologue:

What reinforces this idea is that during his corrosion attack, threads appear, connected to Hong Lu at his various joints. These threads pull Hong Lu’s target… but he himself remains pulled by Pink Shoes. He is both author and tool, master and slave.

And even in his non-corroded state, Hong Lu already speaks of “Tie you just enough,” which for me can have two meanings:

Hong Lu, even by giving himself the role of puppeteer of his own body, is still not truly in control since he is already following someone else’s will — that of Pink Shoes, whose will is to bind people with her ribbons. After all, his regular and corroded attack animations are very similar, which might suggest that from the beginning, when desire is involved, Hong Lu is unable to manifest one stronger than the desire to fulfill others’ wishes.

As it has always been the case for him, Hong Lu controls and manipulates by applying just enough pressure / constraint for it to seem natural. This control is just enough to feel normal, but also not enough to be questioned. Maybe that's supposed to be a hint to the way Hong Lu is controlled.

V/ Lust & Envy: Revealing Sins

Lastly, a quick note on the Sins required to activate the Pink Shoes EGOs, which are revealing:

Hong Lu: Lust & Envy

Ishmael: Lust & Wrath

Lust is shared by both Ishmael and Hong Lu, which makes sense since that is how desires manifest through Pink Shoes.

Indeed in this case, lust is, I think, only referring to Pink Shoes' will to spread and that can be confirmed by Hohenheim's definition of the sins:

"The meaning of Peccatulum Luxuriae, 'Lust', is not exactly what it says on the tin. A more illustrative description would say that it is... ah, yes. An obsession to spread a fragment of what forms the self."

Since Pink Shoes manifest through lust, I don't think that in this case it refers to the sinners. The abnormality clearly want to spread a fragment (the ribbons) of what form its self (the shoes).

So, that being say we have to look at the other sin, that is from where the deep desire is taken from and from which the shoes are goind to feed themselves and implify.

Where Hong Lu requires Envy, Ishmael requires Wrath.

Because Ishmael’s deep desire — her desire for vengeance — was born from her anger and her will to destroy Ahab.

But why Envy for Hong Lu? Two possible explanations in my view:

Because his desire was born from others’ envy to control his life

Or because deep down — and I like to believe this — even if it’s repressed and unconscious, one of Hong Lu’s deepest desires is to be in control, even of himself. Dare I even say he envies Pink Shoes for being able to control him? Maybe it’s an extrapolation, and yet I wonder — why not?

Perhaps it’s an extrapolation. Or perhaps not. After all, isn’t it one of the most human things: to desire that which dominates us, just so we no longer feel lost?

Unfortunately, I didn't really dwell on Hong Lu's eye during this post because I thinkt it will be more interesting to do a post about everytime the jade was active, but that will be for another time!

When to Take Notes

Listen and look for the following clues from the instructor:

Writing on the blackboard or overhead projector

Repetition

Dictation: typically, when the instructor delivers information slowly and at a low vocal register, you should take notes.

Multiple examples for the same topic

Word signals and organizing structures (ie: “firstly”/ “secondly” or “There are two points of view on...” or “The fourth reason is ...”)

How to Take Notes

Although you will probably develop your own note-taking style after a while, here are a few hints:

Be as succinct as possible. Try to condense the instructor’s language into key words or phrases.

If you use abbreviations and symbols, be consistent.

Try to translate the instructor’s language into your own. It will be easier to process information if it is in your own words.

Sometimes outlining or numbering helps you organize the information. Also, indentions can help you distinguish the important material from the less important.

If you miss something, try to write the key words, skip a few spaces, and get the information from the instructor later.

Date your notes.

Everyone say hi to my

obnoxiously long ZADR analysis!!!

I've said it time and time again, these two have a deep and complex relationship that most people just write off as "just enemies" when they really aren't!! It's kinda irritating,,, so I wanna analyze how they act and treat each other (though a zadr lens) Because to me it's pretty obvious they deeply care about the other. I'll go over multiple episodes, the movie, unfinished episodes, as well as the pilot and comics and try to explain their relationship. Though some episodes (and many comic issues) will go unexplained if they center only around one of the two, around a different character. or if I just really don't have much to say.

1. The nightmare begins

The first time these two meet is in the first episode when Zim enrolls in skool. Dibs first reaction is staring and pointing at Zim looking crazy. Explaining to the other kids how he's an alien. Ending off the argument by giving the other a stare. After class Dib immediately confronts Zim, showing off his alien sleep cuffs and chasing him around. Zim eventually gets away (or,, flies away I guess) just for Dib to show up at his house and bang on his door saying he's been waiting for this moment and he's prepared. Dib never thought to prepare for garden gnome lasers and gets his alien sleep cuffs incinerated. That's all. I know there aren't any moments that could really be viewed as zadr material here, I just thought it was a good idea to talk about the first episode. It's when they first meet after all!

2. Parent teacher night

Zim thinks of Dib while he's walking home. You could argue Zims only thinking of him because he's worried about parent teacher night, and sure. That's fair. I just wanted to bring it up because it's pretty cute. Dib in Zims head smiles and laughs, even tells him to watch out for the dog. If this really is what Zim is imagining, why would he include him being happy and warning him if he hates him. You can't hate someone that much if you're imagining them smiling and laughing while walking home.

Later on, Dib introduces Professor Membrane to Zim. He runs off only to come back and splash him on the face with fruit punch. A playful thing, nothing insane. Dib even does the same thing later on. Both of them smile while splashing the other. It's silly and harmless. An easy way to express their rivalry without hurting the other.

3. Dark harvest

I know last point could be debated. "Zim was only thinking of Dib because he was worried." BUT. YOU CANNOT EXPLAIN THIS TO ME.

This scene, right here. Literally what was he talking about.

"You see Gaz, to defeat my enemy I must study my enemy, then become my enemy, then move in with my enemy, then wear my enemy's clothes then-"

THEN WHAT?? I could be looking too far into this, but it just seems so intentional. Very intentional. If Gaz didn't interrupt him what was he gonna say? Seeing this bit in another show gives me that answer,,,

WAS Dib gonna say date? Maybe. Perhaps. But we don't know. Other than this part though there isn't anything else I can really mention. Other than the,,, organ harvesting,,, but I'd rather not! So lets move on

4. BattleDib

While this IS a Dib centric episode, I wanted to note he has a hologram of Zims head. How did he get that? It seems to me that he made it, but that begs the question, how did he get everything right? I mean it's an exact replica of Zim out of his disguise. Does he look at Zim that often? And why a 3D hologram? It's not like he doesn't have photos of Zim out of his disguise. He has photos of Zim in his closet. They don't seem like drawings either, they're definitely photographs. This makes me think. Is Zim comfortable enough around Dib to let him take photos of him out of his disguise just for himself? He doesn't even let Gir do that, as we can see with the photograph of Gir and Zim in bad bad rubber piggy (this is assuming Gir took the photograph. It seems like something he would do) So why Dib? Dib has been shown to sneak photos of Zim, but the ones in his closet have Zim posing in some way, and they're pretty close up

5. Planet jackers

This episode is so good. I love it. But we're not here to talk about that. What we're here to talk about is how out of all people to go to, Zim goes to Dib. Zim rings the bell and waits for an answer. He seems nervous too, looking back at Gir for assurance with a worried expression and sighing. To quote another analysis, "When the chips are down it's always, "You're the only person who can help me." Usually they say it's because the other person is the only one with technology advanced enough to help, but there's more left unspoken."

Even IF the other doesn't help, they still go to eachother. They trust eachother enough to ask the other for help. Even if it's hard.

6. A room with a moose

Zim tries to send his whole class away through a worm hole in space. When Dib finds out, Zim doesn't hesitate to tell him everything that's going on. Even saying,

"This wouldn't be as much fun without you sticking your smelly nose in here." "You're really one of the only people who can appreciate the amazingness of this plan, so I'll let you in on what it is." "My mission might not be as exciting without you around to annoy me."

Zim talks about Dib (relatively) positively here. Saying his mission is more fun with him, how sending everyone away would be boring without Dib intervening, and even trusting Dib and letting him know what exactly he's doing.

7. Hamstergeddon

When Peepi starts destroying the town Dib doesn't even seem mad at Zim, just pointing and going

"Anything you'd like to confess?"

He's somewhat used to Zims antics by now. Later on when Zims knocked out Dib thinks over if he really wants to capture him. Of course, Zim wakes up before he can make a decision, but this one part sticks out to me.

"Wait! Zim, promise me you're on our side this time." "I know not of sides, earth stink. But for once I agree with you, the hamster must be stopped."

Dib asks Zim to promise him. Later on he even defends Zim when the army guys try shooting at him. Sure, it could just be because they agreed to work together, but along with Dib overthinking if he wanted to capture Zim, this shows he doesn't really want Zim to get hurt.

8. Bolognius maximus

When Dib tricks Zim into pricking himself with the nail tack, Zim seems to lose hostility towards Dib, smiling while grabbing his hand. The moment Dib "opens up" and praises Zim is when he thinks he's done well. He appreciates Dibs applause, in fact, it seems like he wants it. Saying "finally" before talking about how great he is.

Although, Zim can't find a cure for the baloney thing himself and goes to Dib for help. Dib seems really happy by this, literally GLOWING. In one scene, Zim and Dib glance at eachother when they fail making a cure the first time. To me, it feels like they're looking to see if the other is okay (which is really cute,,, I'm insane about stuff like that)

In another scene, Zim is freaking out because another attempt at a cure was failed. Dib puts his arms out; it seems like he wants to comfort him.

In the end, they never find a cure and hide from the dogs together. You know what they say, together in every universe, even the one where they're baloney,,,

9. Halloween spectacular of doom

The episode that made me ship them,,, siigh,,,

Zim is worried for Dib in the beginning, thinking he could possibly be dead, or a zombie. When Dib ends up escaping the crazy house, he immediately goes to Zim.

"It's the only chance."

When Dib gets captured Zim comes just in time to save him. He's still mad at him, but he comes through anyway. And the line that single-handedly made me ship them,,,

"I'm not here because I like you, Dib."

Dib looks surprised when Zim says this, he knows their relationship as enemies, but for Zim to say it like that shocks him. I wonder if Dib is thinking it in the opposite way, like how tsunderes in anime often say the same line when they really do like the other person. He then calls his head big and Dib responds, it seems playful. Zim then could leave Dib dangling there but no, he protects him and moves him to the back of the machine thingy

10. Megadoomer

When Dib is trying to get his camera back, Zim playfully throws it back and forth so he can't get it. Is this important? No. I just think it's cute. They also wrestled in this episode

11. Tak, the hideous new girl

When Dib finds Zim in his house and confronts him, it could easily be read as Zim being jealous that Dib is spending time with Tak instead of him. Dib even said he was jealous!!

This is also another episode where they team up, so that's nice

12. Backseat drivers from beyond the stars

THIS LOOK. Also the music for this part is really good. Just thought I'd add that

13. Mortos der soulstealer

Dib shows Mortos photos of Zim while talking about him. Not only does he just have photos of his "greatest enemy", he has one of him in the bathroom putting on his contacts. Zim and Dib also wrestle again!! Later on when Mortos leaves, Zim checks up on Dib who's screaming and crying on the floor. Zim seems to be at least a little bit concerned for him.

14. The girl who cried gnome

Zim says,

"I don't care how delicious he is, he's evil!"

"He" referring to Dib. Okay man. It kinda seems like you do care.

15. Vindicated!

While Dib and Mr. Dwicky are waiting, Dib draws Zim in the dirt

Seemingly for no reason,,, they weren't talking about Zim when he was doing this. They were sitting in silence. So WHYY did he draw him,,,

16. The most horrible x-mas ever

This is the episode that made me want to make this post! Originally I had thought Dib was smiling right before he threw the mini santa suit into space but APPEARENTLY I was wrong. I'm still adding it though because this part was the specific reason I wanted to make this

But one thing I can note is that this (sort of) is an episode where they help eachother out! At the end when Zim had given up Dib comes and rescues him. Even if he didn't know he was saving Zim, he did.

Zim seems thankful for Dib saving him too, at least until he's dressed up as the easter platypus.

17. The frycook what came from all that space

While this is a Zim centric episode, at the very end the two chase eachother around. Zim is back on earth and he's immediately brought back to what's familiar. His best friend, his worst enemy.

Now that we're finally done with all the episodes (that I felt the need to talk about) We can get started with the other stuff!! Starting with,,,

18. The pilot

Which you can watch here!

While I'm not sure if the pilot is canon or not, I would like to bring it up. There's a specific scene before the two start fighting where Zim actually takes some time to appreciate Dibs food launcher thing

"An arm-mounted food launcher! Neat!" "You really think so? Thanks! I was up all night working on it." "Well it shows." "Oh, quit it."

They seem to be a bit more friendly in the pilot, canon or not, it's interesting to see!

19. The return of Keef

The whole point of this episode was for Zim and Dib to be friendly in order to make Keef explode, since there was no animation made for it, here's the transcript instead

This shows that the two are embarrassed to be seen hugging, but is it just because they're enemies? Or is there a separate reason? I don't think anyone at skool would believe them to be friends because they hugged once. Or maybe they're afraid it might cause other feelings,,, who knows. It sucks this never got made, I would've loved to see Zim and Dib hug, it would've been super cute!!

20. Mopiness of doom

For this part, I will be using screenshots from Soapy Waffles. While they aren't canon it's the best visualizer for mopiness of doom that I've seen. You can watch it here!

Quite literally the most important part of their relationship gets shown in this episode. I've ranted many many times about this episode and I'll do it again. Dib goes on to pursue "real" science with his dad, while doing this he becomes depressed and sad. Zim becomes closed off and never leaves his house, spiraling into a pretty bad mental state. But the second Dib runs out of that lab and back to Zim both of them seem immediately happier. While they are insulting eachother, it's with familiarity, love. This episode shows one needs the other to keep themself happy. They bring meaning to eachothers lives.

The first scene shows them trying to stop eachother. Of course for it to not work out. The next day when Dib breaks the news to him Zim seems happy at first, but when Dib doesn't stay to watch Zim sounds genuinely upset.

At home, Gir does something stupid but Zim doesn't have the energy to yell or even say anything back. Gir takes this as an immediate sign that something is wrong. Back at Dibs house he's doing really well with his dad and "real" science. Gaz questions him about it, and he's faced with the thing he truly loves and his fathers approval.

A while later, Zim completely lets himself go. It's been weeks and Zim hasn't showed up to school. When Dib is back at the labs, Gir explains to him that he needs to help Zim get out of his depressive state.

Eventually, Dib explains to his dad that he doesn't like "real science." He likes chasing Zim and he likes the paranormal. He runs out and goes back to Zim, who's in disbelief. The two fight but instead out of hatred it's out of affection. Things are back to the way they like it.

On top of that, there's this clip (which I think about constantly)

21. Enter the florpus

Keep in mind I'm not rewatching the whole movie to write this, this has already taken about 6 hours as of typing this. So if I miss a part,,, sorry!

Dib waited months and months for when Zim would show back up. He sat there waiting for ONE person. The one person who also happens to give him meaning in his life

Later on when Zims in his "cheesy cocoon of misery" he explains how he couldn't get Clembrane to make pudding the way Dib likes. With Dib replying that he in fact, doesn't love pudding. Zim still tried to do something relatively nice by trying to get Clembrane to make good pudding for Dib.

And even with everything they've been through so far, Dib is completely willing to work with Zim

Another thing I would like to mention is that the artists/animators for the movie made a ton of doodles in between working, some of them being zadr related! You can see them here

22. Issue 9

Finally onto the comic issues! I haven't read all of them yet, and since there's so many I definitely missed some stuff, but here's everything I could remember. Starting with 9. In this one part, you can see Dib falling asleep on Zims shoulder

23. Issue 12

Zim rescues Dib and tells him to never forget that he hates him. Which could be read as "don't forget that I love you"

24. Issue 13

I don't know what to make of this one actually

25. Issue 30

After Dib found out Zim had the limited edition soda he needed, he did multiple things to try to prove to Zim that he should have it. Though he wasn't very good at them. So Zim decided he wanted a compliment from Dib. Why? Absolutely no clue. After some (intense) thinking, he compliments Zim. Though this could be read as if Dib is embarrassed or flustered

26. Issue 40

I have talked about this before here, but I wanted to mention it again as it SERIOUSLY messed with my head. Knowing that it's canon (if comics ARE canon) that they're together in every universe is insane. I love them so much guys

27. The canon (?) invader zim ending

Okay,, I'm not entirely sure if this is entirely canon or not, but I would like to mention it. In this comic, Zim takes over earth and loses all of his hostility towards Dib and they go to another planet with bunnies and they're having a happy fun silly time. It's really cute!

And I think that's all for now,,, I know I probably missed some things, but I think I got a lot! This has taken like, 9 hours. So hopefully this is good!! I looove zadr so I enjoyed just talking about them :3 uhh BUT YEA!! That's allll I think maybe

Synastry aspects that I personally don’t like.

North node square north node ( I’m sorry but each one lives in a whole different worlds, completely different perspectives, mindset, somehow not letting each other move to the next step)

Chiron in 7th house overlay. ( now Chiron isn’t always bad, but there’s kind of.. pain it gives , it’s not any better in other houses, but I’m saying romantically, there could be hurt during the marriage... if you want Chiron overlays in synastry please lmk)

Pluto/Uranus in 12th house overlay. ( now Mose of y’all know 12th house overlays arent so good eventually, but i think Pluto or Uranus being there could be harsher than any other planet , could indicate so many things, one of them unpleasant endings in the relationship, finding truth about something suddenly, betrayal..in worst cases you won’t be able to forget each other )

Saturn 8th house overlay. (Sure y’all know why..)

Mars conjuct Mc/10th house. ( uhhhh it just don’t give me nice vibes when both are seen in public eye. Could be arguing in public a lot, the mars person makes it hard for the 10th person to forgive them. Works even in composite chart )

Mercury square Saturn. ( a lot of judgements and misunderstandings)

Chiron opposite asc/Venus.

Saturn opposite Neptune. (Broo)

Moon opposite moon. (Now tbh Im not really sure of this one since nobody complained about it and it could indicate “slight” emotional understanding difficulties with each other that can also cause attraction. Another moon aspect, ofc moon is the first thing you should observe In synastry s, it simply represents how each other’s emotions play with the other. now moon square moon. Obviously most of y’all know why, literally each one is on different page when it comes to how they view emotions which makes it pretty hard to understand each other’s feelings with the square aspect. ( believe it or no I have this one with my man, even knowing it I’m still with him lol. yes the attraction is definitely there due to other loving aspects and also with this one, it gives attractive energy yes. but still, he don’t understand my emotions and my point of view, struggles with analyzing me sometimes or what I even think , even when I try my best to throw him an obvious sign about something, without me speaking, he don’t get it where everyone else does same goes for me 🤣😭. he sometimes thinks I mean something the opposite of what I meant. One of the problems with the vilification of Tamlin – aside from the fact that we are always viewing the story from perspectives that have a negative opinion of the character – is that, when it comes to Feyre, Tamlin is thought of only as her romantic partner, her companion and future husband. As a result, it’s easy to view his actions, outside of the fiction, as those of a typical abusive spouse, and that is where the problem lies. Tamlin is not just Feyre’s fiancé; he is also a ruler by right, chosen by magic, and therefore bears a tremendous responsibility – the responsibility for an entire court. From this point, let’s analyze one of Tamlin’s "most condemnable" actions: allying himself with Hybern.

For most of the fandom, Tamlin allied with Hybern in a desperate attempt to reclaim Feyre – as if she were merely an object to be won back. Even the narrative leans toward this idea, as Feyre’s thoughts often follow exactly this direction when she finally reunites with Tamlin in book 2, after her sisters are forcibly turned into fae. That said, many people here on Tumblr have already done excellent analyses on Tamlin’s reasons for this, but it’s always important to remember:

Tamlin, as I mentioned before, is a ruler, and as such, his primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and well-being of his people. So, if it was clear that his lands would be the first to be attacked by Hybern, why stay silent and wait for it to happen? Given the precarious situation he had been in since Amarantha, Tamlin would not have had the means to defend himself adequately, especially when Hybern was so well-equipped militarily – they even had the Cauldron in their arsenal. So, instead of sitting idly by, Tamlin decided to kill two birds with one stone. By allying with Hybern, he could: (1) prevent a direct invasion, (2) spy on Hybern, and (3) rescue Feyre, removing her from a potentially toxic relationship with Rhysand. Let’s not forget the influence of Ianthe, Tamlin’s childhood friend, and her role in this.

So, was it merely a desperate action to get Feyre back because he is toxic and possessive? No. It was the deliberate action of a High Lord, aware of the multiple threats facing him, trying to address them on all fronts simultaneously. Had it not been for Ianthe’s hidden motives and Feyre’s involvement, he could have succeeded in his endeavor.

The problem I have with the Valkyries friendship. PT 1

I wasn’t going to write this because I usually can’t be bothered to care about the friendship among these three but if their fans are so obsessed with over analyzing Feyre’s relationships…why can’t we?

One of the main reasons people love to say that the Valkyries are better than than IC is because they would never choose anyone over Nesta but the problems lies in the fact that…they have no one to choose over her.

Let’s break it down.

Gwyn has no one in her life right now. No family and no close friends outside of the Valkyries. I mean you can say that she’s friends with some of the priestesses but close friends? The same can be said for Emerie. She has a family but an abusive one. She is an outcast in her community, runs her shop alone, and like Gwyn has no friends outside of the Valkyries.

Their friendship with one another isn’t even treated as important as their friendship with Nesta. Because of this they look less like a trio and more like Nesta and Gwyn//Nesta and Emerie.If one of them is mad at Nesta who are they going to go to? The other person in their group who also is friends with Nesta and has loyalty towards her? Y’all say that Gwyn and Emerie would never put anyone over Nesta and does that include one another? Is their loyalty and friendship towards Nesta more important than the one they have with each other? In canon it sure is treated as such.

Praising the Valkyries because they would never put anyone above Nesta is not only a void point because they have no one to put above her, but it’s also reinforces the toxic view a lot of Nesta fans have when it comes to her relationships. They don’t want her to have friends, they want her to have followers. They want undying loyalty and turn a blind eye to the obvious shitty writing when it comes to Gwyn’s and Emerie’s relationships outside of Nesta because them lacking those relationships means that Nesta will always have that undying loyalty.

A problem that people have with the Valkyries is they aren’t their own characters when you really think about it. A lot of their characterization surrounds Nesta. And that’s why Nesta’s fans have zero problem with them. Whereas when it comes to the Inner Circle they are their own people before they are Feyre or Rhys’ friends. They have multiple people who are important to them instead of their lives just revolving around this one person. Their relationships with one another is equally as important as their relationships with Feysand.

Gwyn and Emerie are less characters and more like tools for Nesta’s healing journey. All confirmed when, after hearing about how Nesta abused her sister, Emerie of all people went on to say she’s absolved of any fault. Emerie, who is a victim of familial abuse herself, thought it was her place to forgive Nesta’s abuse towards other people. You genuinely want me to believe that some of the things these girls do weren’t written with the sole intention of healing Nesta?

They are not their own people. That’s why it’s easy for this fandom to self-insert onto Gwyn and blatantly ignore Emerie. They don’t have a big enough presence in these books to force you to pay attention to who they actually are. Without Nesta they kind of just fade into the background. You can hate or love members of the IC but at the end of the day you see them.

There’s also a lot to be said about their relationship from Nesta’s end and why she latched onto them…

First off, big thanks to @white-hole-station who helped out a ton with these new lore cards! They decided to share their work on documenting and analyzing Hearthian dialogue, and this shall save me a lot of precious time :D

I will try to regularly post updates like these if you don't mind! One purpose is to remind people that the Outer Wilds Lore Map exists, sure, but most importantly, it's so that you guys can give criticism on what's being put in it. Do you disagree with the conclusions or the wording? Are the tags wrong? Do you see a typo? Tell me all about it so it can be fixed!

A couple lore cards in this bunch seem to me like there is definitely more to explore here, and that some debate may be in order (because there already has been some debate while writing them already!). So if you have more evidence about this or that, please comment here so we can have a proper conversation!

I think Seven would tentatively confide in B'Elanna about dissociation problems and B'Elanna would be like "Seven, everyone deals with that kind of thing! Don't worry about it too much, okay?" and they'd both be like, quietly relieved that they're not the only one and thus think that it's normal when in reality they should both talk to like, a professional. AND THEY WON'T! Bc they both kind of know in their hearts that it's weird but it's ok, bc they found someone else who understands and won't try to analyze them about it <3 Seven Dissociation: Fragile sense of burgeoning identity. Goes between feeling 'too empty' (you're not supposed to be alone) and 'too crowded' - as if she can feel multiple identities within her. Feels as if the 'original' her has died and she is a completely different person than the pre-borg her, not as if she IS that child just grown up. At times of high stress, she sometimes has memory lapses which freak her out. Not connected much to her body. Is this body hers? Where did she come from? She was born when she was severed from the collective and she was born when she emerged from the maturation chamber and she was born at some distant point in the past beyond memory, to a Human woman she once called mother. At times she listens back to her personal logs and feels as if she's listening to someone else's thoughts and opinions. Sometimes she remembers saying these things but still feels this way. It reminds her of being Borg, where she can remember things she did but can't really...reach it. Can't empathize fully. Who is Seven? Is she that child, the Human? Is she Seven of Nine, the borg? No. No. Who is Seven? B'Elanna Dissociation: Has a very 'insecure'[?] sense of identity. Easily hurt by and conscious of what others think of her though most wouldn't think this is true. Long periods of feeling completely detached from her body and the world, though she's still going about her daily tasks. Looks into the mirror and doesn't really recognize herself or sees herself as revoltingly ugly in ways others don't see or understand. At times self-harms in an attempt to 'return to herself' if she's dissociating too long as it starts to scare her. Often goes back and erases personal logs made while she dissociating. As a child had an internal habit of blaming things on one 'half' of her, heavily demonizing "The Klingon" girl and this has persisted into adulthood. Views herself in a very 'split' way - "My Klingon side protected me from X" etc. Does not have a cohesive whole vision of herself but instead sees herself as essentially "Good Half" and "Evil Half". I can picture her saying it was like she had a twin sister growing up. This began further back than she can remember but solidified totally after her father abandoned her family. At times she feels she is the "good" version of her, berating the "bad" one and at other times she's the "bad" one being berated. Her body is ugly and she is half evil and if only she could get rid of it, disengage from it, escape herself totally....

Capricorn Venus…that’s it. KIDDING but he aims more so for long term relationships and stable commitments in the traditional sense so getting married or at least having a long time partner is probably something he desires at some point. His scorpio placements are possessive and bent on loyalty so if he’s with the right person they’d get locked in imo, he'd be the breadwinner and like a traditional family dynamic when married.

Sungchan

He’s a leo venus with a cap mars so I think he’d want to get married and have kids since Leo and Cap are both synonymous with “maintaining your legacy and family name” I put him second because he’d want his choice of marriage partner to make him feel validated and approval especially by his family ESPECIALLY by his mother. Let’s say he was thinking of making someone his fiancée but his family/friends lowkey side eyed his choice..he mighttt change his mind about it. Like Shotaro he'd be a proper provider and might be into the "nuclear family" trope.

Anton

He's mainly husband material because he can take care of himself and wouldn't necessarily rely on his wife for much of everything, he's a taurus venus so he likely would be pretty traditional on a basic sense like paying for things and being committed however I don't think he'd settle down until after living a full portion of his life being independent and only having to worry about himself before adding someone into his life for the long term.. 

Eunseok

Husband material without wanting to be the husband IJBOLL. See when I analyze Eunseok with diff mediums (typology/astrology/etc etc) I can see him 100% being someone's long term partner BUT the label of marriage might be something he doesn't care for. He doesn't like feeling constrained or pressure so being with someone forever SURE ofc ! he secretly wants that ! but. being labeled and having legal documents attached...um. If it was normal in SK culture to not get married to your long term spouse I think he'd take that route. 

Wonbin

Honestly I really wasn't going to put Wonbin this high until I did some brainstorming. His pisces venus and taurus mars makes me feel like he lowkey has this "dream life" or "fantasy" where at a point in his life where he'll find 'the one' and have a comfortable life of being a husband (maybe or at least having a long time partner). Also in multiple readings he wants to be the masc counterpart with his partners and do what a boyfriend is "supposed to do" However he might take a very long time for him to find "the one" or commit to the right person commitment is extremely hard for him especially since his idealized idea of a person can break so easily .

Sohee

Sohee is a Sag Venus, they can be very very hard to pin down and they’re super picky about who they stay with due to the fact that Sag venus wants an equal that is on the same level as them, not someone that makes them feel “owned” and not someone giving him the responsibility to “own” them. But he's a pretty fair partner that can take his own responsibilities and an easygoing lover however he cares about his livelihood and freedom a lot plus he might think with his lusts/desires (venus/mars square) rather than viewing dating and marriage from a more serious pov

Seunghan

Loves the idea of marriage, isn't fond of the act itself. Similar to Eunseok I think he'd rather have a long time partner without the extra of marital duties attached. He's a very romantic sweet guy swear he is but he has a hard time expressing more deeper/complex feelings and is pretty avoidant in times of disputes and as we know marriage it has it's hardships and I think said hardships would turn him off. Also…venus square saturn..like…naur. He’ll fear missing out with other possible romantic opportunities

I have a dumb and undeveloped theory, but a theory nonetheless:

what if Will's painting is a foreshadowing of season 5?

okay, hear me out: first of all, the three-headed dragon represents the 3 "villains" (basically the monsters of the Upsidedown) we got throughout the series (the Demogorgon, the Mind Flayer (twice) and Vecna/One/Henry) and how they're gonna have to completely defeat the 3 of them in season 5. Because, for now, the only thing they've been able to do is sent them back to where they belong, but alas, they keep coming back, so maybe it's time for a final battle. Another interpretation of this could also be about the types of villains in the series: the "bad men" (aka: the people from the lab, Dr. Brenner, etc.), the Upsidedown monsters (previously mentioned), and a third thing that we haven't seen before or something we've seen without realizing (like closed ones being used as villains, e.g.: the flyed, especially Billy, and Vecna's hallucinations, especially Max's mom).

the second thing I wanted to point out about the drawing is that it features only the og party. I think this means that season 5 is going to be centered around them the most, much like season 1; we've spoken a lot about "full circle moments" when theorizing, and it really doesn't get any more full circle than that. We've got an overhead framing with Lucas and Dustin standing behind, with Lucas more towards the back and Dustin kind of in the middle, and Will and Mike pretty much side by side (which might mean something about their dynamics this season, but that's another topic entirely), with Mike a little more forward, either leading them or facing the Evil™ first (could also be sacrificing himself, I'm not sure). It also may look like Will and Dustin are in the middle if you don't really get the angle, but I don't think that's it.

What that "different point of views are different character duos" thing could mean, imo, is that we're going to see multiple different pairings among the og party this season; it's already been confirmed that there will be scenes with Lucas and Mike, and Will and Mike, plus some bts pictures of Mike with Steve and Robin might lead us to believe that there will be scenes of him with Dustin as well, AND the, atp, infamous bts photo of Will, Mike, Joyce and Lucas could also mean we're getting Lucas and Will scenes (or at least Lucas-Mike-Will) (this last two could be a stretch). (Disclaimer(?): we can't trust the bts pictures that much, just because two actors/actresses are together on set doesn't necessarily mean they're filming together, for this the pap pictures are a way more reliable source of information).

Now, is undeniable that symbology is really important in Stranger Things, and I might be wrong and reaching way too much, but, I don't know... It just seemed really intentional that Will made a drawing for Mike specifically that features the four of them, and with such an specific situation too, I don't think we've ever talked about a three-headed dragon before, that hasn't been a recurring villain of their campaigns, as far as we know, so I really think it might truly mean something, if not specifically this.

If this is crazy and makes no sense, you guys can ignore it, I might just miss analyzing paintings in art history now that I've graduated high school and this might be my way of coping with it. On the other hand, if someone else has already talked about this theory or this is a well-known speculation in the fandom, I was not aware of it, I swear this popped up in my head when I was looking at the goofyass drawing that Mike's Funko pop is holding in number 1539.
