Here are my headcanons for if the welcome home characters joined the muppets when the muppet show started since welcome home was taken off of platforms!

(In this au there won't be any dark or horror stuff bc this will be if welcome home wasn't a horror thing and was an actual show so if you want horror this isn't a horror au.)

In the mid-70s, when The Muppet Show was being made, the company that owned welcome home decided to make a deal with Jim Henson to where he gets to own the characters and officially use them in any muppet related stuff because of the downfall of welcome. Jim Henson accepted the offer and got the rights to the welcome Home series.

Jim updated all the welcome home puppets a little (just small tweaks and some updated outifts.) to make them look newer and better quality.

They then were added into The Muppet Show, and the characters appear in the theme songs and multiple episodes.

They added some skits for the characters (example: Eddie trying to deliver mail, but all the muppet dogs chase him away).

Most of the Welcome Wome characters acted the same as they did in Welcome Home except for Wally. Wally was made to be a little less childish (he still acted childish at times), and he flirted with some of the women on the show and liked getting kisses from them.

The WH characters acted a little more mature than they did in the show and would make a few adult jokes.

They would appear in:

All seasons of The Muppet Show.

Background cameos in the 1979 muppet movie.

The great muppet caper (as happiness hotel workers)

Some other muppet movies (as background characters or they get small lines)

Muppets (2011) (with small talking lines and in the Muppet Telethon scene) (Howdy would be a part of the barbershop quartet in the barbershop scene)

Muppets Most wanted (Wally would get a few lines, and the others would get background appearances)

The Jim Henson Hour (They would be in some of the skits or in the background)

Muppets Tonight (Wally would appear in the Paula Abdul episode where he would get a kiss from her, and Clifford would get angry at Wally)

Muppets 2015 series (All the WH characters would be in it and get a good amount of screen time)

Muppets Mayhem (Eddie and Sally would get a small appearance in an episode)

Wally would be more of a main character in the muppets.

Welcome Home would have reruns every year on its birthday month on the Disney Channel.

Some of the characters would have also appeared on talk shows.

Wanted to have a crack at drawing an older Summer design with bonus Animal!! These two are one of my fav duos no matter their dynamic

My feelings for Summer's character have really developed, I remember when I first saw art of her I was so confused on who those random penguin was and I was sure that I wasn't gonna be that attached. But her and Animal are literally so adorable together! I often rewatch episodes of Muppet Babies 2018 just for their interactions!

Some small headcannons cuz I love these two: -So I like to think of these two as a couple, but like I said in the beginning I love all dynamics with them, platonic and romantic

-They used to be primary school buddies and that's how their friendship started. Animal was outcasted by other kids for being too freaky and Summer was very shy, so the two gravitated towards each other and ever since have been close

-Piggy used to babysit Summer before she was a big star. I love Floyd and Piggy's enemies dynamic so watching these two trying to be civil when Animal and Summer are having fun amuses me

-Summer works on the Muppets show as a prop and scenery designer. She got her job through Piggy who has a somewhat soft spot for Summer even after she grew up

-Summer knows the band but she knows Floyd and Teeth the most, since they where the two who first raised Animal together when he was a kid. Summer and Animal as kids put Floyd and Teeth through so much stress

-Animal is so smitten with her and greets Summer via flying tackle hug everytime she pops over to visit, it's all good though Summer is round and bounces so she can take it

-In the beginning Floyd was kind of jealous of Summer cuz he felt like Animal was spending more and more time with her. It wasn't till Teeth and Janice talked with him about it did he relax and stopped worrying as much

-I dunno how old the two are exactly, Animal is obviously not as old as the band but I don't think he's necessarily as Scooter is (who I hc is in his early-mid twenties)

Pros

I actually am a big fan of muppets abc. I’ll get into the cons later but I like the style of humor the show has (for the most part), I like when the muppets have more of an adult spin where it’s not like family guy humor but it’s a little more mature than most muppet projects. The modern muppets have been so heavily targeted toward children in many projects that it’s nice to see them recognize that a lot of modern muppets fans are adults (not that adults can’t like children’s humor, I for sure do, but y’know).

Also I really like a lot of the people they chose as guests for the show, and I honestly like the sitcom style following the muppets backstage of a show. I think it’s a good modernization of the original muppet show premise that allows it to focus less on skits and more on characters. Also normally I despise social media plot lines but I actually like the way this show handles pulling the muppets into the digital age, which is crucial for such a timeless property.

Also, as many problems as there are for muppets fans, it’s a really good show to watch with people who casually enjoy the muppets. This show’s style is more to the taste of some of my family members so I like watching it with them. And separate from the muppet’s characterizations the comedy is really good (but that’s subjective so I can see how it rubs some people the wrong way).

Cons

For one the cliffhanger ending kills me. Even if this show was weirdly received it had a really short run, they could’ve used a few more episodes or another season so we didn’t get left on such an annoying cliffhanger (that left Kermit and piggy still officially broken up since the show didn’t continue long enough for them to get back together).

Ok let me get into characters now, because that’s a criticism that I think is 100% valid (though I also think few people other than jerry juhl have properly understood the muppets and not flanderized their characters in some way)(but yeah it’s really bad here).

Scooter!!

How they’ve massacred my boy!

We’ll get to piggy but scooter is the one I’m most upset about. Why? Why change him from nepo baby humor to haha nerd comedy?? It was 2015 man we love making fun of nepo babies and rich people nowadays why would they change the character whose gimmick gets funnier with age?

His characterization feels pulled from the Big Bang theory. All his comedy is just “virgin nerd” comedy. I love that the show tried giving him more screen time than other projects but they fumbled the bag. He was a spoiled teenager who was wild and fun and could get away with anything because his uncle was rich. I get he’s older now but I refuse to think aging did this to him.

Because I’m a nerd I’m gonna pull some quotes about scooter from the new Richard hunt biography bc that man understood his characters.

“Like Hunt, Scooter is a born performer. Scooter also resembles Hunt in his amiable disposition and his almost nonchalant acceptance of the other characters and their quirks.”

“This acceptance stems from his own quiet confidence in himself… happily amusing himself and the people around him.”

“‘Scooter is a perpetual kid and very comfortable with who he is,’ said Hunt.”

HMMMM? CONFIDENCE? A PERFORMER? COMFORTABLE WITH WHO HE IS?

abc scooter just gives off such anxious vibes it really makes him feel like he’s lost the part of himself that made him so much like Richard Hunt.

Piggy

Ughhh she’s just not fun to watch for the most part in this show. I like the idea of her being the star of the show this time around, reminds me of her unexpected rise to fan-favorite muppet soon after Oz took over her character.

I also really like her friendship with deadly. I think miss piggy so often is boiled down to her love for Kermit that I really love the idea of having her explore platonic bonds. Her looking so hard for happiness in romantic relationships but eventually realizing that deadly is the one who’s been by her side, that he’s her friend and that she really loves him for sticking by her is a really sweet arc (for both of them. Love platonic piggy relationships and I like the modern fashion designer vibe they’ve been doing with deadly, I think it’s a fun reimagining of his original character).

But her diva meter really is pushed up to eleven.

Not to pull more from the Richard hunt bio, but Oz describes piggy as “The tough woman underneath the coyness. And the fact that she had to be coy to get things the way she wanted them, like most women at that time.”

Piggy is from humble beginnings and understands how she needs to act to get people to feel a certain way about her. She also won’t take shit from anybody, though. She knows her worth and knows she’s worked hard to get here, but it also was such an uphill battle to stardom for her I just refuse to believe she would become so selfish and act so privileged the way she does in the show.

ABC piggy doesn’t feel like a girl who tries to be coy but knows to be tough when she needs to be. ABC piggy is mean. She has a thin temper and everyone is scared of her and she’s so removed from the non-famous life that she has trouble bonding with people. She only does community service for publicity and can barely manage to do any manual labor. She’s not tough. She’s angry. She’s short-tempered and violent. And she has no trace of her humble roots, that gratefulness for the position of fame she’s in that she holds in so many other roles.

Others

Sam is pretty creepy. I love his gag of being the censorship for the show, him popping up saying “can’t say that” is a nice little nod to him trying to control the chaos of the original show and his little conservative speech sketches. His crush on Janice is kinda odd tho. I like him getting more modern spotlight, I really like his character in most wanted (though a rewatch of that is needed haven’t seen it in a while). But yeah he’s kinda weird here.

Also why were gonzo and Camilla broken up. Disagree. Idc about your relationship drama they’re the muppets otp.

Uhh trying to think off the top of my head, it’s been a few months since my rewatch of the show. I don’t like the mayhem fight. I think teeth and Floyd fighting over Janice is weird and off for them in modern day. Respect Janice rejecting labels, go off Queen.

Conclusion/TLDR

I had more to say than I realized but I don’t want to make too long of a post. Tldr, I really like the show and it’s humor but it does feel divorced from “the muppets” as a pre-established franchise and characters. The characterization is bad, even though I appreciate them trying to give more screen time to some lesser used characters, it didn’t really work. I just think it had a lot of potential, and I like the idea of a more adult but still family oriented muppet show, but the execution was really hit or miss.

Feeling kind of down, so I wrote something with Rowlf and my OC at his tavern. This is just a snippet of it. (This is during Muppets 2015 by the way.)

Cole pushed the tavern door shut behind them, sighing in exhaustion. Rowlf raised his head from the glass he was cleaning out, identifying the person walking inside.

"Evenin', Cole."

"Oh, hey, Rowlf. Uh, the usual, please."

Cole sat down on a bar stool, resting their elbows on the tavern's counter top. By their demeanour, Rowlf could tell it had been a tiresome day for them.

"Sure thing. Say, any specific reason you came on a Monday? It's typically a Friday for you."

"Eh… just work being harder than usual. I had to sit out on the lot for about a half hour today to cool off."

"Mm. I know how that is."

Rowlf pushed himself up from his resting place with a huff, turning to grab a bottle from one of the high shelves. While his back was turned, he spoke, keeping his gaze on what he was reaching for.

"Guessin' that's the same reason you're alone. Just need some peace, ain't that right?"

"You know me. A break and a beer is what I need tonight. Oh, and, uh, don't forget my side."

"Never do."

"You're an angel, man."

This routine had become normal for Cole and Rowlf. Cole would come in on a Friday (or Monday, in this case) after a long week of work, order their usual - a beer and some fries - and chat with Rowlf. They typically came in before or after everyone had cleared out on karaoke night, so that they could have some peace.

Rowlf poured Cole their beer, slid it over, and rested back on the tavern counter. He furrowed his brows for a moment, before regaining his composure, although leaning slightly closer to get a better look at Cole.

"You sure do look tired, Cole. S'there anythin' else botherin' you?"

"Hm… no, not exactly 'bothering'. Just… frustrating ." 

"You wanna talk about it?"

"Not right now. Maybe when I'm less torn over it, yeah?"

"Ah, whenever you're ready. Just take it easy."

"Oh, I will, don't worry. By the way, put this order on my tab. I get paid tomorrow, so I'll pay it then."

"You got it."

Rowlf leant back again, passing the food order over to a waiter passing by. He muttered something to him, before turning his focus back to Cole.

Been thinking of if my OC was a Muppets 2015 oc instead of muppets mayhem

For a quick recap my oc us Floyd's little sister who is about 9 years younger than him. She is an oc I made for a post Muppets Mayhem story I write and is in love with Teeth

She is a writer and sometimes sings with the band and plays guitar if Janice is unable to.

Got the job after venting to Floyd after reconnecting about how she hated her life

Originally was supposed to just be a writer but was caught jamming in the Mayhem room on her downtime and added to the show.

Out drinks and parties most of the guys and it pisses them off.

Is surprisingly close to Piggy despite how different they arw

Uncle Deadly is like the closest thing she has to a good parental figure

She loves hanging out with Robin when needed and always babysits him when asked.

While she gets along with the other writers she teases them a lot and doesn't take their crap.

Sometimes during rehearsal when she and Teeth are together she's laying in his lap listening. Always throw proples off and Kermit and Sam have advises her not to do it but she ignores them.

This just hit me but please hear me out I have a vision

So we can all agreed that Floyd is Animal's dad right? Ergo I like to hc he's actually pretty good with kids, a lot more then people assume because...well, he doesn't look like the type who'd be able to keep up with kids. So imagine if you will, Robin and Newphew (maybe Gloria Estefan too) all playing in the studio together and they somehow wind up running into Floyd. Miss Piggy and Deadly are busy deciding what outfit she'll wear on the show and Rowlf has work at the Tavern, so Floyd shrugs and decides to tag along with the kids when they ask him if he wants to play with them

An hour or so later a very worried Piggy who is looking for Robin - with Deadly in tow looking for Gloria and Newphew - find all the kids sitting in a circle while Robin talks Floyd through the star wars saga and shows him his sticker collection, and Floyd nods along with occasional hums and comments here and there (he doesn't understand what Robin's saying but he gets he's happy so he rolls with it)

After that day imagine Newphew and Robin thinking Floyd is really nice, and sometimes they accidentally slip and call him Uncle Floyd or something. Floyd ends up becoming that one cool uncle figure to the kids of the Muppets and while he jokes that he's clearly too young to be called Uncle he loves it really
