WISHLIST/IDEAS: John Watson

Trying to work out how John would meet up with the crew.

In his main OF.MD verse, he's a medic on a ship in the British Navy. Maybe the Revenge raids his ship or a fort/town he's docked at and a member of the crew is injured. He offers to help because 1) he's a doctor and he feels he has to, much to the chagrin of the soldiers/officers that had been captured injure dbeside them. 2) he has become disillusioned with the methods and so on of the Navy and if given an out he would take it.

He's also still (like in the movies) a very good shot with a rifle. So maybe the crew could take him with them (because he's a medic) to the Revenge when escaping from Ricky & what remains of the Republic of Pirates in the finale and he helps them by being the one to shoot with the rifle instead of auntie.

Ok so I listened to SHOS pts 1 and 2 and I just have thoughts about the whole meta around mentioning Moriarty.

Because the podcast plays John and Sherlock as real. As if all of this is actually happening now in our world. It puts any listener with even a passing knowledge of Canon in the very intense position of knowing what's going to happen in a broad sense. We can see how John and Sherlock are doomed by the narrative.

We hold our breath as Sherlock talks about bodies of water though especially waterfalls.

We wonder how John will feel in the future about singing "don't go chasing waterfalls"

We scream as we hear James Moriarty get a shoutout.

But we can't warn either of them what lies ahead. If we try, they won't see it. It will be ignored or dismissed. There's also a sense that we cannot cross that line because it would also change the narrative and we can't because it's already literally been written.

Every listener has been forced into the role of Cassandra with this podcast and it is fascinating.

Sherlock Holmes is the rush of discovery, the thrill of pure curiosity, the pulse of unbridled passion, the whir of the gears of the restless mind. He reaches out and Watson, lost and alone, is eager to be swept along, away from his burdens and failures. When Holmes jumps out into free fall, grasping for a solution just out of reach, forgetting that he too is mortal, it is Watson who pulls him back from the brilliant rush of madness, reminds him of simpler, more solid things.

Ready?

When John wakes up on his wedding day, a thought hits him. This day should be the happiest day of his life. It isn’t.

Sherlock wakes on the wedding day filled with mixed emotions. He’s nervous, and a bit moody. This day has no significance compared to the day he met John.

The best and most memorable day of John’s life, was the day he met Sherlock Holmes. That day is sacred compared to this day, truth be told.

A ray of light came into Sherlock’s life the day Mike brought John into the lab at Bart’s. He didn’t know it at the time but, Sherlock-married-to-his-work, fell helplessly in love that day, a feeling so foreign to him that he dismissed it as food poisoning.

John turns to face his fiancé.

“Ready for the big day, love?” he asks softly.

“Ready if you are, John,” Sherlock answers.

John Watson (Info & Verses)

FULL  NAME  John Hamish Watson. TITLE Doctor. AGE  40 approx. GENDER  Male. PRONOUNS  He / Him. ORIENTATION Bisexual. PLACE  OF  BIRTH  London, England. OCCUPATION  Doctor / Part-Time Investigator. ASSOCIATIONS  Sherlock Holmes, Mary Morstan, Mrs Hudson, British Army (formerly).

As a veteran of the Second Afghan War, at his stag party and wedding Watson wears both the Afghanistan Medal and the Kandahar Star. + He hates when Sherlock experiments on his dog. + He is much more polite and friendly towards people, in contrast to Holmes' antisocial behaviour. + Has a gambling addiction.

In war he saw things he didn’t understand.

In India, he once met a man who predicted his own death. Right down to the number and placement of the bullets that killed him.

PERSONALITY

Watson is shown to be loyal, sarcastic, humble, polite, smart, stubborn and selfless. He is also extremely intelligent and able to match deductions with Sherlock with ease. He can be very hot tempered in the face of pressure or annoyance, and greatly cares about his best friend Sherlock Holmes and loved ones. He is very brave and willing to sacrifice himself for any just cause. He is an immensely talented healer and is able to repair the wounds he personally suffered in the attack at the slaughterhouse when Blackwood attempts to blow him, Sherlock and Irene Adler up.

ABILITIES

Watson is a highly skilled combatant and is an exceptionally talented boxer, and is able to hold his own against several opponents simultaneously. He is a capable swordsman and keeps a high-tensile steel blade hidden in his cane wherever he goes. He is a crack shot, heralding from his long years in Afghanistan. He also has genius-level intelligence, proven by not only his medical knowledge and skill, but also Watson's ability to easily deduce things just nearly as quickly as Sherlock Holmes can(on one occasion even quicker), though he isn't nearly as prolific with this skill as the latter and in the end it is still clear that Holmes is the smarter of the two. Nevertheless, Holmes himself has openly praised Watson deductive abilities and holds him in the very highest of regard.

VERSES

CANON This covers everything that happens within the world of the movies in which John comes from.

OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH John is a Doctor in the British Navy and is starting to become disillusioned with them. He is currently thinking of trying to leave and find employment elsewhere.

MODERN After his second tour in Afghanistan and 20 years altogether in the British Army, John retired from the service and set up a small doctors practice in London by himself. Occasionally aiding a friend in his investigations from time to time. (This verse can be used/adapted for interactions in shows like 'What We Do In The Shadows).
