okay okay hear me out: neath mushroom zombies

I think there'd be an extra level of stakes raised here because.... if a zombie infection hit london, there'd be so few other places to go then some typical zombies setups. You could head to zee but most likely the spores came from one of the zee islands to begin with - who knows how far it spread. I wonder what zombies + parabola would do.

oh now im envisioning different places as safe havens against it.... and i mean u know the beth is still running.... oh this is ruminating in my head.

anyway this is. supposed to be an oc ask.

Jamie is suffering they are not meant for this. Im imagining they're just following the others around and being more and more concerned- however a breakdown of society would lead them to be less inclined towards their iminitation of soceital norms.

Alex would be taking care of/somewhat leading a group of survivors. He could be dramatically carying an axe heh. He's trying to find anyone who hasnt been infected yet and bring them to safety, desperatly looking for those he cares about among the crowds.

Josephine's arc would be trying to get through the city to return to her lab. She hopes, with time, she could research a sample of the spores, and find a way to bring about a cure - or at least, to find a way to destroy it for good.

Aurora - idk girls probably just killing things and having a blast.... well unless April gets hurt, she'd worry about that.....

yet another dnd/bg3 character! my half-elf/half-orc, circle of spores hexblood druid, Nosferia. had some complications being birthed and in order to save them, orc-papa made a deal with a familiar hag (ethel). as such nosferia was brought back from the dead and allowed to live a full life, but now they’re hexblood and doomed to eventually become a hag in ethel’s coven.

or they were, until the mindflayers came.

some extra info for fun:

i usually refer to them by they/them pronouns but they’re cool with whatever pronouns. they were born both intersex and interdifferent.

their crown is made of fungi. yes it is alive and yes it will move.

despite being revived by auntie ethel, orc-papa made no arrangements for nosferia to know their birth parents. all that mattered was saving the child. as such, nosferia knows of their parents and they sometimes visit, but nosferia otherwise lives in ethel’s teahouse/swamp.

whenever nosferia needs to disguise their hexblood nature (or i guess their half-orc nature), it’s with a cloak that has an owlbear skull as the cap.

speaking of--nosferia’s, uh, as eccentric as you’d imagine a witch. alongside a lot of little bones as accessories, they keep a skull that they fester mushrooms in + a bag of teeth.

prone to bringing dead things to camp to try to educate “outsiders” on the marvel of decomposition.

while much of the technology of the fae could be considered late rennissance/early enlightenment levels of technological advancement, there are some surprising ways the inhabitants of beatha manage to create rather advanced tech that we would usually consider the avenue of a society that has gone through an industrial revolution. dokkalfar are known for being highly advanced in areas such as plumbing/water management,  warfare, chemistry, dentistry and surgery,  engineering and infrastructure. they are limited in some respect because they dont like to use iron, but they have figured out a way around this set back by using and manipulating other materials that are more suitable for fae.

 for example, dokkalfar use the chitinous fibers of fungi/mycelium and engineer it into a very durable, very strong material similar to steel. they also use very strong silk, and ebonywood as a building material too. this way they can create massive buildings without ever using a single bit of actual tempered metal. even the giant chains that pull the great elevator of the spire up and down are not made from entirely iron or steel, but from fungus chitin, forged to be nearly unbreakable.  they’ve even figured out ways to make softer/less durable/brittle materials stronger by enhancing them with this modified fungi chitin. dokkalfar obsidian is super strong and does not possess that brittle properties that volcanic glass usually would due to their techniques. 

of all the fae most likely to undergo their own version of an industrial revolution though, it would be the svartalfar. not only do they use magic like their dokkalfar brethren to power their society, but they also have some understanding of steam technology. the svartalfar, create many types of ‘machines’ created from a mix of organic and inorganic material. they’ve even learned to program basic machines to undergo tasks without input using magic. they use these machines for all sorts of purposes -- but mostly for their building and advancement of their cities, and for service. its not uncommon to see mechanical servants or merchants to take care of more basic tasks, though they still require actual sentient beings for more complex tasks.

HORROR WEEK- FOTD #150 - red-juice tooth! (hydnellum peckii)

the red-juice tooth (also strawberries & cream, bleeding hydnellum, bleeding tooth fungus, & devil's tooth) is a hydnoid fungus in the family bankeraceae :-) it is mycorrhizal & forms associations with conifers across north america.

the big question : will it kill me?? not at all !! it's edible. however, the blood-red guttation is extremely bitter. ^^"

h. peckii description :

"the fruit bodies typically have a funnel-shaped cap with a white edge, although the shape can be highly variable. young, moist fruit bodies can "bleed" bright red guttation droplets."
