Sometimes I think I'm really emotionally intuitive and other times, like today, I'm literally the stupidest person on earth.

Am exhausted from sudden travel for unexpected funera. Have not slept nearly enough the last few days. Am staying with my father's family which means zillions of relatives I barely know or outright dislike, trying to follow conversation in a dialect I don't understand, or else standing awkwardly in the doorways. Basically just my one cousin who deigns to speak English to me, plus her 6 month old and the puppy. The food is terrible I haven't seen a vegetable in 3 days. Have been running the funeral home/wake/funeral mass/cemetery rounds for the last 2 days and while my grief isn't as severe given we weren't close, it's still a horrible tragic death, there's a crying motherless 5 yr old, and I'm surrounded by people grieving in an already EXTREMELY messy family situation. My dad's cousin has managed to make fatphobic and homophobic jokes within 24 hrs. Also the Casual Racism of this entire branch of the family. Missing work unpaid, job interview prep, my fkin artist hasn't gotten back to me abt my tattoos.

Reckon GNB's good cuz, imagine those evidences and frequent "Objection!" are his literal bullets while he goes up close to the opponents.

MNK Mia: Case 1-2 aside, I always headcanon Mia have at least some form of self-defense via hand-to-hand combat given that her concept arts revolve around making her a biker attorney.

MCH Apollo: Perceiving + won't you believe it, Chord of Steel. I always imagine Apollo would be the MCH to Klavier's BRD and (maybe) DNC Nahyuta.

But please for the love of everything holy, our culture isn't just that.

Our culture is already watered down to just one sixteen of it. Yes, Germany ≠ Bavaria. Just like US American ≠ New York / Alaska / Texas.

The watering down and disregard to the culture has gone so far that I, as someone who's spent all their life in Germany, don't know much about my culture. I owned ONE traditional dress when I used to be a girl. But no one taught me how to wear it properly so I probably wore it the wrong way.

I'm sorry if I make anyone uncomfortable talking about this, but I think it needs to be addressed.

This piece of history is a dark chapter in the history of my country. It's important that it doesn't get forgotten what has happened to prevent that. But please, for the love of anything holy, don't try to play ignorant to my culture by comparing it to my country's biggest mistake and biggest regret.

Thinking Ahead

Today I realized that we just passed the second anniversary of Endwalker. Two years ago our WoLs saved the world from ultimate destruction. Looking back on those two years...

I'm proud of some of the things I've accomplished. I managed to write a completed fic, even if it was an au. I started recreating vintage portraits and I think developed some skill at it.

Of course I would have liked to accomplish more. I wanted to get my ARR fic completed. Dare I dream of finally finishing it before Dawntrail?

Speaking of DT, I've been giving some thought to Severia's future and what I want to do with her going forward. I am pondering the possibility of making her a RDM main in DT and beyond. She's always been a BRD primarily in the msq, always wearing her beloved Choral Chapeau. But Dawntrail seems like a good opportunity to change some things up. Perhaps it's time to hang up the bow and the chapeau. At least for a while. It will give me even more of an excuse to dress her in red. I'd like to commission a mod for the wrist scars she's had since childhood as well. It would be amazing to play the game with her looking closer to how I imagine her.

Another thing is that for a while I've been unsure of whether or not I want Severia and Nero to have a child in their main canon. But I've come to the conclusion that they don't. Severia the WoL is going to remain happily childless. And Severia the archeologist from Sharlayan au is going to bear the responsibility of being the sole Severia who is a mother. I plan to eventually work on fleshing out Sharlayan Severia and Nero's kid and developing them as the WoL of that universe. I've become really fond of Sharlayan au and look forward to making more stuff for it in the future.

Also someone remind me in January to make something for Severia's birthday on the 31st this year.

But right now I really want to focus as much as I can manage to on getting the canon timeline told. Cause I really love their main story and hope others will love it as well. Severia and Nero continue to own me heart and soul and I plan to continue writing and gposing them for as long as the game is around to let me.

First of all, thank you anon(s) for sending me these interesting/unhinged/sometimes really hard to decide-comparisons, a format I never expected in my inbox but which I welcome with open arms 😌

For this case, we have a young Sven in the end of the 1980's and a Richard in his 30s in the beginning of the 2000's:

Normally, I would look at this in an humouristic way, but I think this time, given the topic, I'm choosing a more serious approach. Firstly because both times Richard practically fled something/tried to get away from something and in one instance really endangered his own life and secondly because I have experiences in my family with crossing the Wall from the GDR into the BRD and find it hard to joke about. My grandfather practically was forced to flee quite early on since he was caught listening to western radio (that's why the song "Radio" holds a very deep meaning to me) and another relative of mine fled the GDR in the 1980's. Both instances seemed to have been quite risky and resulted in numerous consequences.

Richard, back then maybe still Sven, must've felt so vulnerable, unsafe and even more disillusioned than he already was after he was imprisoned by the Stasi for several days and then decided to leave. It's not an easy made decision to attempt an escape across the Wall. The Stasi back then persecuted not only refugees directly at the border while they tried to flee, they even persecuted the ones which planned an escape or tried to help others escape. Only the suspicion by the Stasi was sufficient to observe these people day and night.

Over 300 people died directly at the Wall and over 71 000 people were sentenced for "Republikflucht", for the crime of trying to leave the country [source]. So Richard back then put himself at risk for 1. planning his escape and 2. going through with it and 3. risking consequences back home, since sometimes even the families of the ones who left were observed even closer by the Stasi if the attempt was successful. So I'm really glad that everything worked out for him despite it being a surely very stressful time, plus it being timewise so close to the fall of the Wall.

Richard leaving for New York after the Mutter disaster was also an "escape" but with a different motivation and clearly different circumstances. It was more "official" so to speak, he needed to get away from Berlin (which he viewed as destructive and as a "drug city") and needed to put some distance between him and the rest of the band. Plus, he saw New York as a chance for him to stay artistically challenged since he viewed New York as "the worlds biggest drama". So I see this escape to New York as a more voluntary decision for him to get new experiences and impression, in contrast to the escape from the GDR, which was a breakout from an authoritarian regime to hopefully find a life more worth living on the other side.

So all in all, it surely would've been more comfortable to accompany Richard to the US if I'm being totally honest here 👀

full name: katsu arahata race: raen au ra gender: cis male sexuality: gay height: 6 feet 9 inches (nice) nameday: 23rd sun of the 3rd astral moon age: 24 at the start of ARR. turns 25 shortly after stormblood, and turns 26 the same day patch 6.4 happens birthplace: southern shishu (whatever xiv's equivalent to okinawa is) occupation pre-ARR: lived in kugane with his parents, likely had a job at the mujikoza. reason for beginning journey: grew tired of his mother telling him how to run his life even as an adult as well as feeling like he had to live and breathe for the sake of the arahata family and nothing else, so he left kugane without warning, leaving only a note to his parents. residences: was born in southern shishu and raised there until age 5-6, when his mother decided she wanted him to get a better education in a more affluent part of hingashi, so they moved to kugane. eventually buys an apt & then a house in limsa. overall disposition: tends to be generally friendly and warm to most folks he meets, but the degree of such is based on how much he trusts you. for strangers, the friendliness is just a facade he puts up to keep himself safe, but once he trusts you he becomes a lot more genuine and expressive. loves making his friends laugh. has issues with anxiety and sensory overload but tends to hide them due to aforementioned trust issues, and only talks about them to his closest friends. enjoys learning and likes a bit of adventure, but generally prefers taking it easy. initially a bit of a pushover pre-ARR until EW due to habitual interpersonal conflict avoidance, but deep down greatly values his own agency. notable negative traits: can sometimes be distrustful, occasionally dishonest, avoidant, and ever so slightly vengeful. can be stubborn at times. copes with reality by romanticizing awful things or deluding himself that stakes are low even when they are not. and if that fails, he'll feel compulsions to abandon everything that he's worked for and start over anew... which he has given into at least once. hobbies: has a deep passion for the arts in general. has taken classes for folk singing and multiple instruments during his teens. worked backstage doing music for the mujikoza in his early 20s. enjoys theater but could never see himself taking the spotlight, claiming itd be too stressful. enjoys both pencil illustration and sumi-e painting, particularly when the subject is anything in nature. during MSQ, he learns a little bit from each crafter's guild in eorzea, but ends up enjoying weaving and carpentry the most, bowmaking especially. also keeps a pet lizard.

favorite color: he's a sucker for blue, but also likes a nice bright red. favorite food: unadon (bbq eel over rice) romantic interests: had brief crushes on martyn and aymeric that he never pursued. also developed an attraction to his then-best friend thancred in post ARR. did not pursue him either until post HW, but even then kept it relatively unofficial. it wasnt until late STB that they made things official between them. classes: -had some sojutsu (spear arts) training as a teenager as part of his education, so he uses polearms as his weapon of choice for all of ARR til SHB. begins his dragoon training in ARR as well. -picks up BLU during post ARR just for fun. -picks up DNC during post SHB initially on a whim but later as an outlet for expressing his emotions. -picks up BRD post EW for similar reasons, and also as a way to have a "fresh start" after everything that happened to him during MSQ. -picks up DRK directly after 6.4. initially just wanted to learn swordplay in general while trying to conjure a blade of light at will to defeat zeromus, but his dark magic is warped by the lightcrystal given to him by yshtola in 6.2, essentially becoming a custom class. never actually named by anyone in game (i think?) but my name for it is arch knight, or ARK, based on the ff tactics class.

Entry No. BRD~ASW: Conflicted Identity

... I’ve wanted to talk about this for a while. I talked about a part of it on Twitter a few months back, but I really need to get it all off my chest here, whatever shit I get be damned. In 2013-2014, my freshman year of highschool, I got introuced to Arc System Works through junior/senior pals introducin’ me to BlazBlue, a franchise that didn’t take long to take root in my heart. I would end up usin’ it as part of my online handle, “BlazRegaliaDream”, and I have stuck with it as the name I use when I sign my art. I’m not the biggest fan, but BlazBlue was a hyperfixation for 4 years since I discovered it. After a serious burnout in 2018, I tried movin’ my sights onto other franchises, but the love held on as a tiny ember that I’d occassionally stoke from just playin’ BBTAG and eventually findin’ a couple of close friends to talk about the franchise and keep tabs on it. Also throughout this time, I also would eye Guilty Gear, seen it around between XX and Xrd, and while it didn’t become a hyperfixation, I thought it was pretty cool. (and I still do lol) Fast forward to 2021. StrIVe has been out, haven’t played it yet. Friends are deep into the JP exclusive mobile BlazBlue Alternative: Dark War, which started at the beginnin’ of the same year. I was eyein’ it, but didn’t wanna sink into another mobile since I already had FEH and FGO (with a few others I fell in and out of). October, I revisit my old BB OC project and then on a whim, I decided to try BBDW. Wouldn’t you know it, I fell in love with BlazBlue all over again and even if I was stuck with a mobile game for new content, I was ready for the future of the franchise post-C-series. And then a month in, BBDW was announced to shutdown in January due to morale issues for the team. “Well shit, I mean, maybe there’s still a shot later, right?” 2022, creator of BlazBlue, Mori, leaves ASW for reasons we may never know. ASW insists that they still want to keep BB alive, but later, an interview reveals they’re supposedly lettin’ GG hog the spotlight because they don’t want the two franchises competin’ Between this and the awful, awful disaster that was Bridget’s return to StrIVe, everythin’ begins lookin’ all too dire... I hate the current state of ArcSystemWorks. I’m so conflicted, so angry with this company, and I just don’t know how to articulate it all so smoothly. My favorite franchise may as well be dead, 6 feet buried, as the creator has left and started his own company and who knows if they’d bother to get him for a new entry, and with the shit surroundin’ StrIVe, I don’t think I can trust this company to revive BlazBlue proper. Is Team Blue even still a thing? It feels like after everythin’, I’ve been gut punched and spitted in the face.

... *sigh* Dammit, there's much I wanted to say, but as I'm typin' this, the words have fled.

I'm just lost. Where do I go from here? The company I once admired just fills me with nothin' but fury, and GG ain't even the first franchise I've seen to pull the shit it has and for what!?

I've thought about rebrandin' before, but I'm too attached to the handle even after everythin', yet still... I just wanted people to see how cool BlazBlue is, and the monkey's paw curled...

MY GUARDIANS!! MY BELOVEDS!!! I don't repeat classes often - I only have two mesmers and two guards, but that's bc the additional mesmer and guard are ported from other games so the classes were the best fit for them. That being said, let's get into my guardian children <3

nika is also my ported wol and his canon jobs (drk, mch and brd) are my best attempt at recreating guardian in that game :)

7. what are the convictions that keep their guardian magic burning?

nyra: her selfishly selfless goals and dreams; her belief in herself and her own abilities and her god-complex. she is an inverse paladin that way; instead of serving a greater being or a deity or a goal, she serves herself and her ambition with the same zeal.

nika: i'm not quite sure if he has magic in the same way nyra does (she is a caster, too) or if he just has enough to detect that there is magic and not really cast any of his own. but speaking of him in general, he has little to no general convictions. yet he is also ambitious and wants to be known in the world, primarily for his music. that's what he's protective of. that's as close as he gets to having any convictions.

8. do they focus more on healing and protecting their allies or on incinerating their enemies before they can do harm?

nyra: she isn't much of a healer, even if she can use some healing magic, but she is on the front lines and makes sure to take hits for her allies. she loves a good thrill of battle, she is in charge, she likes showing off; even if i play her mechanically as a tanky dps, in my heart of hearts she is the tankiest of tanks + dps.

nika: oh he goes for the kill! he uses guns and longbows, so he likes taking his enemies out long before they can even approach him, but he isn't afraid of cleaving them in half either. it's just that he prefers ranged combat. he also fits the mold for deadeye as well in this regard.

9. how much do they rely on their magic in combat? could they still be effective if they were stripped of their guardian powers?

nyra: gahh i love this question bc it's my hc that over reliance on magic is 100% a mistake that a guardian can make. nyra's case is pretty interesting here; she didn't have magic until she was 15, and during personal story she was learning how to manipulate and shape light so she used more of her raw, physical strength. following heart of thorns, where mordremoth slashed her shoulder really badly (so bad that it was barely saved) she swung in the other direction and used magic a lot more bc she couldn't be as effective with raw physicality as before.

now she has a canthan-made aid for her shoulder, like a compression sleeve with jade tech beneath her armor, that allows her to use her shoulder to its old extent as long as she's wearing it (she's not wearing it outside of combat, though.) that allows her to find a balance that she wasn't able to before, and while she is a talented magic user, taking that away wouldn't take much from her efficiency on the battlefield, as long as she has her jade tech aid.

nika: he relies very little on magic as he doesn't have much of it, and is so much more efficient without it.

10. What’s their fighting style like? (ranged, defensive, aggressive, etc)

nyra: as per previous answer, she went from melee to ranged to a mixture of melee and ranged. these days she likes to be up close and personal again, same way she used to be ten years ago, but she isn't as aggressive about it as she was back then. instead, she is defensive, with more strategic attacks that take her enemies out faster, as opposed to just going for aggression for its own sake.

We know through the Scions and lore that 'jobs' as we know them mechanically in game, are not as binary as the skills and spells were assigned to when we play. Keeping this in mind, do you play your character strictly to one 'job' - even if that's literally just a crafter/gatherer - or do you pick and choose spells from other classes? Do you incorporate abilities and spells from other media?

Hello, I'm so so sorry for the late reply!! I got this message while I was quite busy, read it, thought "I'll reply once I'm back home" and... well. That didn't happen ^^'

That said, on to the actual questions, they're interesting! While I don't imagine my WoLs as 100% 'by the book' ability-wise, I have never thought about stealing skills from other media... much to consider, there are so many possibilities :D I do have some little headcanons about how my WoLs perform their combat jobs, though!

For Susumi (my EU character and main WoL), she has an affinity for living aether (for echo reasons), as in 'aether within living beings'. Comes in quite handy when healing, especially as a White Mage, since she can very easily track down where aether isn't flowing as it should in a body, and influence it to promote healing. However, as a result of that she sometimes cut corners when it came to learning the scientific basics of magical healing. She got away with it as a WHM, but that lack of a solid theoretical foundation came back to bite her when she tried to pick up Scholar later ^^' She's not the most studious or book smart person, and still struggles with that aspect of magic regularly... She also cheats a bit when it comes to being a Dark Knight, since she is not quite fit/buff enough to wear plate and swing around a giant weapon for extended amounts of time! She amplifies her own flow of aether while tanking to enable her to wield her greatsword, which means that afterwards she is extra exhausted.

Hnaba (my NA character) meanwhile comes from a tradition where healing and stories are connected (think a healer job close to WHM with a touch of BRD, but with stories being recited rather than sung) and was on track to be trained in that art before she left the forest. However, when she left she closed herself off to the more magical side of that tradition. She is now mainly a Bard, albeit one who prefers instrumental to sung performances.

SANAII MY BABY GIRL-

She is a SAM main, but she's taking ARC/BRD through ARR; both are canon for her - she learns SAM from R'enze (or at least, the very barest basics; he knows basically nothing, and everything else she learns, canonically, through the job quests) and ARC from Zephyr. She also learns the basics of using a greatsword from R'azit, and DRK becomes a tertiary class for her. She does take up WVR and BTN! I want to say she fishes, but whether she'll actually pick up FSH, I don't know.

She's an avid reader - she likes to pick up new books everywhere she goes, usually trading them for the books she picked up elsewhere (unless she gets particularly attached to one or two). She's learning embroidery in what little downtime she has (which is what leads to her picking up WVR), but isn't very good at it yet. She gets better as time goes on.

I haven't actually decided which GC she'll join. I lean toward the Adders, but that's more because she's a Gridania starter than because she has any particular attachment to them. (Because BRD is canon for her, I could totally see her jumping ship to another GC after the events of the SB BRD quests.)

She's on Maduin! Taking advantage of that Road to 80 for as long as it's available.

Part of the reason she has amnesia has to do with her awakening to the Echo, actually - she awakened to it during the destruction of her village during the Calamity. The combined traumas left her with only hazy memories of her young childhood, even her name. She remembers it started with a R... unhelpful, considering she's from a branch of the R tribe. But she's had Echo episodes ever since. Her fathers believe they're fainting spells, but as no healer has judged them to be a cause for concern, they've always tried not to raise a fuss about it.

She doesn't trust easily, which can make it difficult to make friends. She also doesn't really try to make many friends, since being an adventurer means being constantly on the move, never really staying in one place for long. Against her will, though, people start gravitating to her - and more people like her than she expected. Or wanted. She's not sure how she feels about this "Champion of Eorzea," "Warrior of Light" business.

She's not really shy - she just looks very anxious, which makes people think she's likely to be shy and timid.

She's lukewarm on the Scions at first - she joins them only reluctantly, with the stipulation that she's free to leave any time. Minfilia has no idea how old she is. No one really does. (Then again, it's unclear how much it would matter, considering... Alphinaud. But I digress.) She comes around on them, obviously - especially the twins; it's nice to be traveling with people her own age. She and Alisaie get along especially well, being action-oriented. I feel like Estinien doesn't quite see her as a younger sibling the way he sort of does the other two, though. It's hard to see her as a child when she's faced down Nidhogg twice, and slays primals on the regular.

can you or any of your followers explain why i looooove brd and i loooove dnc but mch makes me want to kill someone with a rock. like what did they put in mch that makes it so fundamentally different from other phys ranged that irks me specifically. i love phys ranged but i genuinely cannot tell why mch feels so different from the other two. (grips mch by the neck) what are you hiding. i want to love mch as much as the other two but i cant tell whats bothering me so much in the first place does Anyone know.

OH I CANT HELP YOU THERE IM A FUCKING DNC / MCH MAIN (jk im gonna try anyway). i understand bard, i can play it if pushed, i do not enjoy it.

mch has little to no utility for the rest of the party, that's my answer i think. I came into phys ranged from a need to help my party (got brd to 90, then dnc, then mch) and that's very much why when i prog i do it on dnc but i think the reason you might not be clicking is because the only thing mch can do is mitigate damage as opposed to buffing the party.

another thing i find is that like? mch doesnt have the same systems in place to keep timing if that makes sense? dnc is dictated by the step guage, it's dictated by tech step windows and standard step rotations. brd is defined by its ballads and its dots, i get it but its not for me. mch? you're on your own. your dps is dependant on your weaving and there's very little there that scratches the same itch that the other two do wrt timing and patterns.

I play mch in roulettes if i'm not in the mood to heal bc it means i dont have to strangle other people in the party who are playing dnc but i prefer dnc overall. shrugging, its a deeply personal thing and mch is very much fighting for its life in terms of identity right now.
