Soooo, uuuh…yeah, that's the last encounter for right now! Porygon! I love Porygon, those who follow my blog should know this, I have a whole tag dedicated to appreciation of Porygon, but I am still very terrified of…whatever this glitchy Field is!

Okay, okay, let's just…take it slow, and start by paralyzing it like usual.

But anyways, Glare™ was successful, so let's just try our first Ball? I don't feel comfortable using any moves on it lest I risk knocking it out, so…

My first idea was to name it after some kinda coding language, but considering how…quirky some of them are (like- Java, Python, c'mon this guy deserves better than that), I just decided to name it after polygons. I've been rapid-firing these nicknames all day, my brain is becoming more deep-fried by the minute, cut me some slack.

Now, the last thing I wanna check is that new Department Store floor. According to the elevator lady, it's got type effectiveness Berries- but does it have all of them?

Yes they do! Oh, this is so great, I'll definitely have to keep this in mind for future battles, I don't care how expensive these fruits are they are useful! What say you, nameless woman?

I'd like some Berry Trees too, honestly- I just like running around watering and picking Berries from them, that was like a good chunk of the time I spent in Brilliant Diamond.

Alright, I'm satisfied with that, so it's time to get ready for Noel...again. I already discussed my theories and plans for him, but just in case you forgot (and it’s been a few chapters, so I wouldn’t blame you), here's the summarized version:

I already know Noel is gonna have a Clefable, so the other most likely candidates for his team are: Furret, Sawsbuck, Kangaskhan, Kecleon, Blissey, Pyroar, and/or Bewear.

Normal-types are only weak to Fighting, Ghost-types are immune to them and Rock- and Steel-types resist them, not to mention Grassy Terrain provides a boost to both Grass- and Fire-type attacks.

I’m bringing Riptide because he’s the partner Pokémon, Glare for Intimidate support, Bloom for the Growth boost and potential to do big special damage, Wulfrum for the quad resistance to Normal and as a possible Clefable counter, Vulcan as the designated Fighting-type and for the Field’s Fire attack boost, and Jack as the designated Ghost-type and for the Field’s Grass attack boost (on the physical side this time).

Got all that? Great, let's get the team back together! And…huh…

ive seen people call c!techno ancap. seeing as youre a techno appreciator, actual anarchist, and probably enough of an adult to actually understand the wikipedia page unlike myself, i wanna know if you have any thoughts on this? is c!techno an anarcho-capitalist?

i do have thoughts on this!

my very first thought is: cc!techno admitted that he wasn't well versed in anarchism when he first started playing his character. you can see that in his one conversation about the strong surviving while the weak huddle in fear (though that conversation is in a kinda awkward situation to begin with: he was speaking to bad and sam, it was his fifth stream, and c!techno had said he wasn't sure who was on his side and it seems like he was trying to figure out where they stand) where he seems to take a sort of hobbesian stance on anarchism.

but he's since learned more about anarchism, quoting emma goldman, the syndicate's manifesto being basically 'intro to anarchism' talking points, and having his character work with an enemy to take down the egg.

so i think that a lot of people who dislike c!techno (and i say this because i've seen at least one or two bigger blogs bring up this line very often) point to the 'i want a dog eat dog world' bit and say 'this is what c!techno really wants' are kinda missing the fact that cc!techno has said on stream that he didn't know much about anarchism and wanted to learn, asking for people to recommend him things to read. basically it shows that the actual situation was 'whoops i didn't do my research i should fix that my bad'.

and i think it's also missing the fact that since then, c!techno has actively worked on changing his ways. he's even gone as far to say that he's been a bad example of anarchy in the past and saying he wants to do better. which he has done much better. not perfect, but better.

basically, i believe that cc!techno didn't know much about anarchism in the first few streams and has since worked to learn more though it's still not perfect.

my second thought is: anarchy in minecraft can't function exactly like minecraft in the real world.

to me, this is where most of the 'c!techno is an ancap' arguments come from. that and a kind of.....internet/twitter understanding of anarchism.

c!techno is rich. he has a lot of wealth. he hoards that wealth.

in our world, the people who hoard wealth are the antithesis of anarchism. they're the products of capitalism.

but capitalism doesn't exist in minecraft the way it does in our world. what makes capitalism in our world so oppressive is the fact there's almost no way to succeed if you don't have capital to begin with. a few people hold all the wealth and power and it's nearly impossible for the rest of the population to get to that level. and that wealth is gained through the exploitation of the working class.

in minecraft, however, wealth is gained through a single person's actions. wealth is gained by grinding. anyone can do it. all they need is time. there's no restrictions to who can or can't do it and it doesn't take anything away from the other people. (in easy, i kinda think that the only resource that really is limited are totems of undying but i've never played java.)

basically, having wealth in minecraft doesn't work the same way as it does in our world. c!techno isn't exploiting anyone, he's not taking resources away from others, and he's not harming the world (server) by industrialization.

but again, i feel like a lot of the time, especially online, we see having wealth as an automatic negative. you saw the sort of thing i'm talking about after the twitch leak where people got upset that these streamers were making so much money but realistically the only issue would be unpaid twitch mods because streamers aren't the problem. the problem is the system and the exploitation of workers and yeah, there's definitely a bit of privilege for people to be able to do streaming full time, but compared to the harm that billionaires are causing.... i'm getting off-topic.

what my point here is that this subject has been boiled down to 'rich equals capitalism' without any nuance. like, yeah! i hate billionaires! i'm pissed at people like bezos and oil companies and politicians who take money from lobbyists. i'm not mad at streamers or actors or whatever.

and in the same vein, i'm not mad at a character in minecraft for having wealth.

my third and final thought is: the other argument i've seen is that c!techno hasn't done enough mutual aid, especially re: helping those from l'manberg but... i don't know what he should have done? he offered c!ranboo a place, he checked on c!niki, he saw that c!jack had his home still. i mean, there's other people who were effected but then you start to get into problems with personal grudges and, out of character, issues with scheduling and being able to line things up.

like, you can't really say 'c!techno didn't actually care about the egg' when cc!bad and cc!techno's schedules and personal lives had a big impact on what they could or couldn't do.

so, in my personal opinion, taking any inactivity as proof that c!techno doesn't care is disingenuous. the idea that c!techno didn't actually care about what the prison could be doing and what it represented because he hadn't done anything when cc!techno has real life issues and cc!sam also had scheduling issues just. doesn't completely sit right with me.

my conclusion: no, c!techno is not an ancap. he's not a perfect example of anarchism, either, which is something that i've been saying for a long time. he's a character created and written by a young dude who wasn't well-versed on anarchism when he first started his character and who has since done a good job of correcting those mistakes and portraying basic anarchism. i wouldn't label c!techno as any specific sort of anarchist, really, but as someone who follows the base tenets of anarchism.

This is a post on the cheating accusations around dream mostly surrounding his response video.

SO I’ve been doing a lot of digging into what dream has said in his response to Geosquare’s original video and report, which was compiled and conducted by the Minecraft Java mods on speedrun.com. 

I won’t talk about that original report in detail, but basically: the mods came to the conclusion that Dream had a 1 in 7.5 trillion chance of getting the pearl bartering rates and the blaze drop odds that he did within the 6 streams he did. As in, someone would need that luck to replicate what dream got. Therefore, he cheated. 

I’m going to put this into a sort of ‘point form’ in according to topic, attempting to put it in chronological order.

Dream’s Initial Tweets

Ok so first like. these are bad. these tweets are what he said (on twitter, excluding in the speedrunning discord) directly after the video was Uploaded to Geo’s channel. 

worth noting he did apologize later, although i wanted to talk about these two instances so i felt the need to include it. 

there’s a lot of interesting wording in the apology tweet itself too. I personally find that when he apologizes he tends to still be very subtextually angry in them with the tone, but more specifically. where he says ‘although i have reason to be upset’, that’s kinda weak and really unneeded. Alongside the ‘intense criticism’, it reads as him trying to say he’s still in the right. kind of like “im sorry i was rude even though I had reason to be rude’. Its an apology sure but he’s not saying sorry for how he really reacted; its justified to him.

Dream’s Response Video

Dream posted a response on his side channel DreamXD on the 22nd, along with the report he had a supposed astrophysicist conduct. I’m going to talk about the report separately from the video for reasons I’ll explain. 

Frankly, the video doesn’t really summarize or explain the report in a meaningful way. At most, it takes some points from it but tends to twist the numbers around, misunderstand the probability and math, and also what the report itself concludes. 

Essentially, dream’s video insists that the numbers found by the mods are wrong and therefore he didn’t cheat at all, yet the report concludes that the numbers found by the mods weren’t entirely accurate, however they’re still extremely unlikely. This is also all under the assumption that the report is entirely correct (ill say how its not next)

His first point is that only his 1.16 run (that was at 5th place two months ago, would have now been 16th) was deemed cheated. This is true; the mods have said that he isnt banned outright and theres no reason to question the legitimacy of his 1.15 runs. 

He also concludes that Geo’s statement that Dream didn’t cooperate with them, and that he deleted 1.16 mod folders, was false. This one is a little more complicated. It could more be chalked up to a miscommunication, although it’s relevant. Geosquare posted screenshots of the specific conversation they had:

Essentially it wasn’t entirely clear, i can understand how geo and the mods interpreted it in such a way. Altho April added in a quote retweet thread that dream didn’t supply the folder she asked for, so he didn’t supply everything they asked for like he states in the video

Essentially: yeah, misleading and weird on both ends. I dont think this is really anything quantifiable, although dream talked about this in the video heavily. 

Out of this though, Geo DID correct himself in the description of the mods’ video. Dream shows this in his own response, but it crops out some of what geo says. here’s from dream’s video

that Update 2 is where he corrects himself. literally why the fuck would you crop it like this and put it in the video i mean this looks so weird and genuinely doesnt provide anything. Here’s what geo actually said

Dream specifically cut it before the line where geo mentions how he said he deleted his specific 1.16 speedrun profile. This one is just so dumb to me. I’d say ‘why not include that’ but either i feel its a) so there’s no potential for people to say what he had actually said could be interpreted otherwise easily or b) doesnt want people to know he got so upset he deleted files (ego wise yknow). Again, I dont think this is definitive of anything but god. it feels scummy lmao

The Video: Incorrect Representation of His Own Report

Dream straight up doesnt present the report’s numbers properly. In fact it makes the entirety of his visuals forfeit, i.e. the gold block analogy that goes on for like 20 minutes. 

The mods said his luck was 1/7.5 trillion. Dream’s report says its 1/10 million (with the addition of 5 other streams) or 1/100 million (only the 6 streams).

I’ll only consider the 1/10 mil odds, since its all dream really brings up. but Basically; there’s not much difference between 1/10 million and 1/7.5 trillion. 

Dream says that the difference is 7.5 trillion minus 10 million, aka 7.4999 trillion. This is what his entire visual with the gold blocks is based on. This is absolutely incorrect, i cant stress that enough. 

You can’t find the difference of fractions by subtracting only the denominators. Like. this is elementary school math. it just doesnt work. 

It’d actually be calculated as: (1/10 000 000) - (1/7 500 000 000 000) = (74999/7 500 000 000 000)

If the mods are wrong, they’re only wrong by 749999/7.5 trillion. that’s literally only  0.000000099999866666667. 

Dream no doubt saw the numbers, considered 10 million vs. 7.5 trillion, and used these big numbers to hold his own point. PROBABILITY DOESNT WORK LIKE THAT. I really think he was just taking advantage of the seemingly big numbers here and wrote it out in a way that favoured him. The gold block analogy in the video played throughout the entire video practically, jokes were made on it, and he made a point of it being ‘so big the game crashed’. 

It’s just plain wrong. even so a difference in the odds doesnt prove shit. He’s downplaying his own odds that he found too. 1/10 million isnt a small number. Even though the legitimacy of that calculation is in question, it is still significant enough to proclaim he cheated. 

Some quick points before I move onto the report; these aren’t as significant in my eyes but it adds to the picture

there’s been criticism of his joking manor throughout the entire video, very specifically the Bill Nye joke. Considering he doesnt actually have a name to provide for his astrophysicist, this joke doesnt feel right

the mod he had a voice clip from (willz) even believes that he cheated and has agreed with the mod team the whole time. 

Dream never has a name for the mod who is apparently on his side (more understandable), the minecraft developer he quoted, or the astrophysicist (most damning)

Dream states that fabric is used by most speedrunners which is true, but fabric and fabric API are different; dream also had the latter installed. my knowledge of how theyre different is limited, all i really know is the API is what can enable editing of the code while fabric is more a modloader. im not entirely sure on this

Dream has said at the end of the video that all funds will go to the mod team so they can make a client that will regulate cheaters. this has been noted as feeling manipulative or like a ‘bribe’, but it definitely puts the mods in a bad position. 

either they accept it and look like they ‘gave in’ to dream and therefore acknowledge him in the right

they deny it and look selfish/taking dream’s kindness for granted

geo said they would insist it goes to a charity instead

Dream constantly disregards the mods as young, inexperienced, ‘just volunteers’ etcetcetc, despite the fact that theyre analysis has been discussed by people with confirmed PhDs without much criticism

Dream’s Report

The report itself is extremely interesting, in that it’s very questionable, but even so it doesn’t come to the conclusion that dream didn’t cheat. The tone between the video and the report is drastically different. 

This is from the “3. What are the goals of this document?” section:

It essentially says this isnt intended, from the very beginning, to completely exonerate dream of cheating. Also note that the author says the mods’ report was mostly correct. 

This is at the end of “9 Conclussions”:

It does notably say cheating isnt the only explanation, but it doesnt actually go as far to say that it’s not possible that he cheated. 

But this can be argued to not matter if we consider the validity of the report as a whole

Dream’s Report: Criticisms

Possibly the first and most known debunking of the report is by u/mfb on reddit, although there’s been much more such as this programmer criticizing the code provided at the end of the report (partially due to how the author of it stated that piglins barter 4-7 pearls, which is incorrect: it’s 4-8), Andrew Gelman, an actual statistician professor from harvard, commented on the original mods’ report as ‘impressive’ while Dream’s report is being regarded as something funny in the comments, and even analysis of dream’s behaviours and his argument by a law student

But what u/mfb posted is what i’ll focus on. Some background into the user; he’s a particle physicist, is moderator in subreddits like r/cosmology and r/astrophysics, he’s regarded as a reliable source on r/askscience and r/askreddit. Basically, multiple other people have vouched for him and before all this he had many posts in these fields. 

that’s already better than the unnamed astrophysicist. 

The post is better speaking for itself but here is a few exerpts from it;

Essentially, the report’s methods are debunked by u/mfb-, alongside that a moderator of r/statistics regarded the report as ‘nonsensical in its application of statistics’ and linked to u/mfb-’s comment. 

i’m going to end this here. Partially because severe backpain or whatever,.

but I want to say at this point its practically definitive that dream cheated, that he lied to us, and that he continues to do so. Much more could be said on his video such as his tone, intentions, the overt emphasis on the ‘biases’ of the mods. 

I havent even mentioned that the ‘astrophysicist’ themself may be a scam; they are sourced from a website that is extremely sketchy, has no names attached to it, and was created less than a year ago (with practically no traffic on it until maybe a month ago). 

But i hope this is coherent. I have interest in this so if theres questions im always open.

Okay, I’m gonna pause on the requests for a second because I’m lacking brain function. So where does my mind go? To my natural state—Starbucks mode. This post is in no way affiliated with Starbucks Coffee Company, nor am I being paid to promote the brand in any way, shape, or form. The only compensation I receive is in the form of catastrophe pay. This post is entirely meant to be satire, and I actually had a lot of fun writing it!

Karasuno;

—Daichi, Kiyoko, and Ennoshita are the black coffee drinkers, iced or hot depending on the season.

—Asahi, Tsukki, and Suga are latte drinkers; caramel, toffeenut, and vanilla respectively.

—Tanaka, Yachi, and Yamaguchi are slightly more “adventurous”. They’re the ones who always try the seasonal launches. Yes, they tried the unicorn Frappuccino. Yes, they said it was good. Yes, they were liars.

—Kageyama gets a vanilla bean or strawberry creme Frappuccino every time, without question.

—Hinata and Noya are the chaotic secret menu drinkers. You all saw this coming. Noya totally orders a matcha green tea Frappuccino, sub peppermint, add java chips. Whereas Hinata prefers a vanilla bean with caramel and toffee nut, extra caramel drizzle. On colder days, Hinata prefers a black and white hot chocolate with extra whip and any kind of seasonal topping that adds a crunch.

Aoba Johsai;

—Not to throw my babies under the bus, but the only men on this team drinking black coffee is Iwaizumi, Watari, and Kunimi. Everyone else too weak.

—Never an iced one for Iwa, though. Hot and preferably over 200F like himself.

—Kyoutani doesn’t get anything because he lowkey hates the fact that Starbucks exists. That’s fair. If someone is getting it for him, he prefers a blonde roast with a teensy splash of milk.

—Yahaba also prefers a drip coffee, but he’s very particular. If he’s feeling a hot coffee, he prefers dark unless it’s Italian Roast bc garbage. If that’s the roast of the day, he goes with blonde. Splash of cream and three sugars. If he’s feeling iced coffee, he wants an iced Pike Pour Over because Yahaba is THAT extra. The regular iced coffee doesn’t cut it. However, he only orders it if nobody else is in the cafe and he’s alone.

—Oikawa’s orders depend on his mood. I could see him getting tall Nitros on a regular, but if he’s not feeling coffee, he’s an iced tea drinker. Preferably, the guava white iced tea, unsweetened of course.

—The meme team totally gets the color drinks. Makki is basic af, getting the pink drink. Mattsun prefers to think he’s exotic, getting a dragon drink.

—Kindaichi is the Seijoh Frappuccino offender. He prefers the Caramel Ribbon Crunch.

Nekoma;

—Oddly enough, I don’t see any of them being a straight black coffee drinker. The closest would be Kuroo and Yamamoto. Though, Kuroo would prefer a cold brew. If pumpkin cream cold brew is in season, it’s the only thing he gets.

—Yamamoto, on the other hand, I could see him being a standard iced latte drinker. Extra shot and almond milk.

—Yaku is definitely a flat white kinda guy. He strikes me as the person who thinks he’s cultured for getting ristretto shots.

—Inuoka is a tea drinker, and he doesn’t discriminate between any of them as they’re all good in their own right. However, if he’s feeling ritzy, black tea lemonade with mango refresher base, sweetened.

—Lev is a fan of the very berry hibiscus refresher. If he’s feeling ritzy, he’ll substitute the water for apple juice.

—Kenma is a chai guy, but only iced. With one less pump of chai and two pumps of vanilla, regardless of size.

Fukurodani;

—Washio is our black coffee drinker for this team, because stoic trope.

—Onaga prefers a vanilla sweet cream cold brew, as it’s the perfect balance of creamy, sweet, and still tastes like coffee. If he’s feeling adventurous, he’d vie for an iced cocoa cloud macchiato.

—Akaashi strikes me as another one that orders depending on his mood, never sticking to regularity. Though if he’s unsure, he just orders a white chocolate mocha with no whip. Definitely prefers warm drinks to iced.

—Konoha is in the same boat as Akaashi, but I guarantee he’s tried everything on the menu at least once. Salted caramel mocha is a year round favorite for him, both hot or iced, and whether the topping is available or not.

—You all knew this was coming. Bokuto is our chaotic good friend here. Strawberry creme Frappuccino with a banana blended in, java chips, one scoop vanilla bean powder, and mocha drizzle on top.

—If he’s not feeling a blended drink, he gets an iced matcha latte with one less pump of white mocha and 1-2 pumps of toffee nut. (If you read elixir, you’ve seen this before! This is my actual drink.) Bokuto and I got the crackhead energy here.

Where I ramble about programming projects as part of my workflow for getting through them?

Well, this week it's java, and I'm upgrading a fantroll generator. Right now, I'm working on the stats. I've got a system working that assigns proclivities which translates into the aspect, and I'm working on the actual stats (like strength, dexterity, constitution, mangrit, whatever).

First, the aspects. There are six relevant stats, that go from -10 to +10. We take the absolute value of each of these, and whichever stat is the most extreme gets to define what the aspect is.

Faith gives Rage (+10) and Hope(-10), Order gives Doom(+10) and Life (-10), Connection gives Blood(+10) and Breath(-10), Self gives Heart(+) and Mind(-), Luck gives Void(+) and Light(-), and Entropy gives Time(+) and Space(-).

I probably need to rename luck to Chance or something.

Okay, so let's look at some sample trolls.

Troll #1: Maroon

...but hoo boy, their aspect is a tie between Space and Life, with breath as a distant 3rd place, and everything else is almost nil. This troll is about overcoming obstacles, nurturing growth, and escaping any attempt to contain them. No wonder having 0 clout hasn't slowed them down at all.

All of these are pretty dang low. This is a middle of the road sort of guy, and the only thing that really makes them stand out at all is having a poor sense of self -- and sharp sense of logic. A relatively weak mind player, but honestly probably pretty useful to have as a planner as long as they're good-natured.

And just because I want to see if hunch is Always going to be that extreme in maroons, ...

Re-watching Lizzie Mcguire: Episode 2.4 (El Oro De Montezuma)

Verdict- Arroz Con Leche: 1, Lizzie Mcguire: 0 

- Lizzie, Gordo and Miranda have their eyes glued to the television because Miranda’s cousin from Mexico, Carlos is supposed to appear on a Mexican game show with his friends next week. Jo sees this and encourages the kids to go out and do something more active/productive but shortly after, she becomes enthralled by the quirkiness of the show. 

I can’t tell if they like what they’re watching or not lol

Lost in Translation

- There’s a new kid in school and his name is Li Torak, from Indonesia. Because of my Malaysian heritage, I know a thing or two about Indonesia and Li doesn’t look Indonesian to me. He looks really young too, almost around the age of Matt when in actuality, Raja is only a year younger than Hilary and Lalaine. It’s probably because he’s a boy and maybe it’s his Asian genes hehe. Lizzie tries to break the ice with Li but there’s a language barrier and he misunderstands majority of the things Lizzie is asking him.

* I just did my research and Holy Cow! The actor who played Li is Raja Fenske, who also played Jake Behari on Nickelodeon’s Unfabulous! I totally didn’t expect that. I haven’t watched Unfabulous in ages and I kinda forgot how he looked like. That’s so cool. Oh and if my research findings are accurate, he doesn’t have any Indonesian ancestry as I’ve predicted. In fact, his mom is Indian and his dad is German and Norwegian. 

- Mr. Dig is teaching a class that puts a spotlight on other cultures and introduces to his students a “Lip Stretcher” that the Suya Indian men from the Amazon River used to pull their lower lips out as a way to attract mates I think? That’s interesting. He goes on to explain the various other cultures’/countries’ standards of beauty, which are very foreign to them. 

If Gordo weren’t a director, he should’ve been a comedian because he went in on Larry here. 

- Mr. Dig then uses this as an opportunity to formally introduce Li to everyone in class. And once again, he struggles to comprehend what’s being asked of him. Okay, I need to be honest here and say this; The way Raja is trying to sound like an Indonesian is just not working for me. He couldn’t even pronounce “Indonesia” correctly like a true native he’s meant to portray. The accent is way off; It’s actually very cringe-worthy.

- Anyways; back to the plot. Mr. Dig asks his students to write a report on either their own culture or another culture and include what people can learn from it. 

The First Mention of Mexico City (fans of Lizzie Mcguire know what that means)

- Back at home, Lizzie asks her parents about where she came from and her parents funnily misunderstands her question and thought it was a Biology question lol. Obviously, what she meant to ask was where did their ancestors originate from in Europe most probably. We find out that Sam’s family is Scottish and Irish and Jo’s family originated from a bunch of other European countries. This makes it harder for Lizzie since there’s so many countries to choose from. 

- At the Digital Bean, Miranda re-introduces her cousin, Carlos to Lizzie and Gordo. He greets Lizzie with a couple of kisses on both cheeks:

- He also tries to give Gordo the same but he’s not down for the friendly kisses lol. I wonder if Gordo felt some type of way to see another guy “kiss” Lizzie even if it’s a friendly one. Especially coming from last episode when he saw Lizzie and Ronnie kiss for real. 

- Miranda tells them that’s what people do in Mexico City and I gotta say, the words “Mexico City” triggered me because that was the excuse we got in like the last 10 episodes (plus the movie) of Lizzie Mcguire to explain Miranda’s absence from the show lol. 

- Miranda then reveals to her friends that Carlos’s teammates cancelled on him to go to their sister’s wedding, which is a good excuse but Carlos doesn’t seem to think so lol. Eventually, Lizzie and Gordo agree to be their replacements due to the financial benefit they would get if they win. It always comes down to the Benjamins I see. Plus, Lizzie sees this as an opportunity to help her with Mr. Dig’s assignment. They feel like if Carlos and to a lesser extent, Miranda could translate for them, they would be able to do the stunts on the show just fine. 

- We then get a montage of them doing a practice run through some of the games featured on the show. Gordo also insists that they learn some Spanish as well. As I’ve been learning Spanish on Duolingo for almost a year now, I’m proud to say I was able to translate most of the phrases Gordo read out loud.  

 I LOL’ed at this moment. Why he gotta look at them like that? 

- Lizzie thinks that they should focus on perfecting the games rather than trying to learn Spanish to which they all agree. But really? They don’t know what “bueno” means? Don’t they live in California? They should’ve know that word at the very least... C’mon now. 

Let The Games Begin

- It’s now time for the game show and the host introduces Carlos, Miranda, Lizzie and Gordo on stage. Wait, where is this game show held? Is it where they live in the US or did they all fly to Mexico?

- The first round is trivia and Miranda manages to win the first point. The next round is popping as many balloons as possible between their chests but we don’t know who won that. And after that, it’s them trying to seek out different items of clothing to dress their teammate in a bull-fighter’s costume. 

The last clue is getting a hat from the bottom box but unfortunately Lizzie wasn’t careful enough, which led to a whole stack of boxes to crash on top of her lol. But they still manage to win that round fortunately and their team is able to advance to the last round.

- In this round, Lizzie gets picked to designate roles to each of her team members. Unfortunately, she accidentally assigns Carlos to be the Aztec bird snake gut, which means that he has to sit out that round. The host gives them the instructions in Spanish and with Carlos having to be inside a soundproof box, they have no idea what they’re supposed to do.

- I was able to understand a couple of phrases like “tienen arroz con leche” and “cuaranta y cinco segundos”, which I’m confident it means “they have rice with milk (rice pudding I guess)” and “they have 45 seconds to do something” respectively. I didn’t catch the building a pyramid part just because I don’t know what pyramid is in Spanish lol. I did a quick Google search and it’s just pirámide but I don’t think I heard the host saying that word.

- They obviously misunderstood the instructions and did something completely wrong, which is putting the rice pudding into the boxes and jumping over them at the same time. Gordo, who is usually the brains of the operation thinks that they should eat the rice pudding and he proceeds to happily eat it lol. 

- They try to think of one last solution and Lizzie decides to throw the rice pudding into the boxes with her bare hands but she accidentally splashes some of it onto Miranda’s face. Next to you know, they’re throwing rice pudding left and right at each other and the whole audience goes wild. Well, that’s one way to end the show but I’m pretty sure they lost.

Presentation Time

- It’s time for them to present their report on a culture of their choice in Mr. Dig’s class. Gordo does his on Mehndi tattoos from India; I actually thought he would talk about some aspects from his own Jewish culture. As for Lizzie, she tells the class that after her whole experience of being lost in translation in that Mexican game show she and her friends participated in, she felt like she needed to learn about other cultures so that she can understand those around her who are not like her. 

Oh gosh; His accent again. It’s so not Indonesian. 

- Anyways, Lizzie decides to focus her presentation on Indonesian culture. This should be good....

- Umm, Jakarta is not an island Lizzie....It’s the capital city of Indonesia and the island it sits on is called Java. *facepalms. The presentation was obviously cut short due to time constraints of the episode but they could have done more to fit in more insightful stuff into her presentation. I’m really disappointed. 

Matt’s B-Plot: It’s More Like A C-Plot....

- Matt and Lanny have pretty much been playing hide and go seek throughout the whole episode. And that’s about it really. It’s nothing extraordinary except for the fact that they kinda went overboard with it and continued the game outside Matt’s home. 

Is this safe for a child lol?

- However, what I like about this sub-plot is seeing how sassy Lanny is. The episode ends with Matt winning the hide and seek contest but to his own detriment because he decided to hide in a train, which started moving while Lanny eats pizza with Matt’s parents. Wow, his parents are going to get the ultimate headache from trying to find out where in the world Matt is. 

Overall Thoughts

- Let’s get the negatives out of the way first; Raja Fenske’s portrayal of Li as a student from Indonesia was pretty weak I have to say. And it wasn’t really his fault. I’m sure somebody had given him directions on how to sound like an Indonesian and he had to follow it. Like I mentioned earlier, I don’t think Raja is any part Indonesian and so, he probably couldn’t tell what should have sounded authentic. I felt like Disney should’ve cast someone Indonesian or part Indonesian to avoid all of this. Also, I must repeat the point I made about them saying that Jakarta is an island, which is totally wrong. The writers should have done their research.

- But I appreciate them for making the attempt to shine a spotlight on how ignorant we can be when it comes to understanding and respecting other people’s cultural differences. At the beginning of the episode, Lizzie was obviously taken aback and amused by Li’s inability to understand what she was trying to ask him because she has never been in his position before. 

- It was not until she participated in “El Oro de Montezuma”, she’d realized that being immersed in a new environment with a completely different culture from what she’s used to is extremely hard. And because of that, she was able to empathize with Li and show Li that she wants to respect and get to know his Indonesian culture, which is why she decided to make her presentation on Indonesia instead.

- Long story short; The lessons taken from the episode were great but the execution of Li’s character was meh.

I am so EMOTIONAL about the rats right now...

Squealch was put to sleep on monday, he was about three years old and had a couple really horrible tumors and was getting very weak...he was very shy and kinda an butthole to other rats but I'm still glad I could adopt him and Rupert when they needed it, and at peace knowing he had a good time with us before he was PTS.

His brother Rupert is now alone, and has been very lonely this week. Thankfully, Java and Lisp are sweet as can be (unlike Squealch, who was so rat aggressive that we could never get them to get along while he was around...it was simply more peaceful and safer to house the groups seperately) and Rupert will be moving in with them probably tomorrow.

I had Java out to play tonight, and had an idea to hold Rupert and let them sniff, to see how they react. Keep in mind Java is our smallest boy and also the bounciest and goofiest in general. Rupert is a BIG boy, and older by almost two years. Java came up close and Rupert hopped down on his own, and Java IMMEDIETLY put his little rat hands on Rupert's shoulders and started grooming him. Rupert got startled and beeped loudly, but Java kept pouncing after him.

It was SO FRICKIN' CUUUUTE.....JAVA IS SUCH A GOOD LITTLE GUY...didn't make a single aggressive move or posture at all, and was sweet as can be. He didn't run or chase, no biting, no fluffing up. He was VERY gentle. Rupert was a little overwhelmed, but they both parted on their own time and Rupert was clearly bruxing and calm on his own. They met again once or twice, same results of Rupert beeping a bit while Java gently roughoused, but altogether they did GREAT. Java also had a ton of fun exploring the living room and didn't want to go back in his enclosure, he was too excited about all the late night excitement. I gave all the rats a couple treats as a reward, and everyone seems calm. Lisp was very confused by Java's Strange New Smells but hopefully this is a good thing and means he'll be cool tomorrow when we go to bathe everyone and try Proper introductions.

I'm just.....so glad that Rupert is going to have friends again soon. And that Java is such a sweetheart. That rat has such a way of making you feel all bubbly and happy, I can't help but smile when he's around. I love my rats so much. <3 <3

Disclaimer: I’m writing about my experience with major OS (Windows 10, macOs High/Sierra, Ubuntu/Manjaro) using a Solid State Drive. It has a huge impact in term of speed and it could be different from your own experience.

Hello there. To begin with, this post isn’t about what’s the best OS for everyday programming, it could depend on the stack used, Misc programs and specially YOU, so i’ll try to describe all the good/bad things that happened during my everyday workflows.

But before that I should let you know my programming stack so you won't get confused later. I mainly use:

PHP frameworks and CMS

nodejs frameworks for frontend

react native/ionic for mobile dev

Photoshop (with CssHat) for HTML Integration, banner for mobile apps.

ms office due to my current job.[1]

Ubuntu (Unity/Gnome):

By the end of 2015 and after a good run with Windows 7 and using Ubuntu just occasionally in virtual machines I thought I would give it a shot with a daily usage so I installed the 15.10 version. back then i was programming in PHP, Java and C# (because of my Software engineering Studies), php and apache had great performances locally, same for java but used a windows 7 VM for Visual Studio, Ms Office and Adobe Photoshop, because all the alternatives (Darkable/Gimp, Open office) weren't at the same levels. I tried but the more you use them the more you notice their weak points such as ease of use, backward compatibility.

I had a good (exactly 2 years) run switching between Unity and Gnome DE (I was the n°1 hater for KDE btw), but over time and even with SSD it felt a kinda slow (I was always stuck with 16.04 LTS) and honestly, I wasn’t fan of the Ubuntu’s PPAs either and then I discovered the Hackintosh community.

macOs (10.12/10.14)

So after a hell of an installation process I managed to run macOs Sierra smoothly on a laptop that has hardware near to macbook pro late 2012 (HP elitebook 840 G1). Apps installed with one simple drag n’ drop (applies to android studio too). It run the Android Virtual Device smoother than windows 7 and ubuntu with the same laptop, i was very surprised, the memory management, the apps integration and the overall stability was so great. At that time I finished my studies so no more Java or .Net programming, and the adobe/ms office suite was a strong point compared to Linux in general so every program ran natively without the need of any VM, with our beloved Unix cli.

The only drawback I had with mac, or with hackintosh, is the system updates/upgrades it was so painful to do it breaks your system every time, I was backing up the whole bootable system image whenever I attempted to update. Because the Kexts (Kernel extensions or “drivers”) weren’t always backward compatible.

So in the end i was thinking to go back to linux again but not sure which distribution i will stick with again, I wanted a stable distro that i forgot completely about something called upgrades of “big updates”. In the meantime I give Windows 10 another shot after hearing it got better and better in the last years.

And again, after 2 years with no workflow complaints I backed up my hackintosh installation and installed the last build of windows 10.

Windows 10.

I’ll resume my experience with one line: “not great, not terrible” Compared, again, to mac os the system was very smooth in every way, snapping windows, switching virtual desktops, programs and files search in the start menu, no problem but! I already missed the unix cli. Yeah I know there’s cmder and other tools. The overall performance was okay but there was some latency when compiling node js apps. My workflow didn’t change. I used Laragon for all my php projects with phpstorm and it was perfect honestly. On the other hand Android Emulator was terrible even with 8gb or ram and ssd, mac os was handling it way better.

In the meantime I played with some linux distros in VMs and made the choice: Manjaro, KDE flavor.

Manjaro:

“You said you hated KDE right?” well yes but for a cause, one I didn’t want to bring back the Gnome memories i had with Ubuntu and second, I disliked is because its similarity in UI compared to Windows in general, 10 specially then I found how very customizable was and again i’ll resume it with one line: “everything is a widget”. So in term of UI I made my simple comfortable setup.

Now in term of programs and workflow I still use PhpStorm for my php and nodejs projects, npm and yarn installed globally and surprisingly npm run very fast compared to windows and mac; git already installed, but for my php projects I migrate all of them to docker with docker compose, majority of projects were based on Laravel, Prestashop, Wordpress and old native php apps. I managed to dockerize some of them from scratch, some with Laradock.

Java/.Net: RIP.

For mobile development there were some struggles during configuring ionic and react native’s first run but done with them quickly, no problem with android studio but the emulator “again” wasn’t that good as mac os, but not that bad like windows. And I discovered a helpful package that cast my connected android device to my screen and it’s shown as a virtual device but a physical one, called scrcpy from the genymotion team!

And finally these are just some of the benefits why I picked manjaro:

No big breaking updates.

A rolling release distro.

Fast security patches.

The Great Arch User Repository (AUR)

Snap and Flatpak support (but why?)

Very stable.

But still there are some drawback, linux’s ones in general:

Still needing photoshop and lightroom.

Ms Office for work purpose (Managed to use Web version since we have ms365 but still miss Excel for heavy use)

Conclusion:

Finally and personally I’ll stick with linux for these main two reasons: native support for docker (future projects could be deployed with it) and the unix environment similarity to production servers (cli, ssh and packages’ configuration). I understand many of you will disagree for many things said in the post but that’s okay! because, finally, we choose what will help us to give the most of us in terms of productivity.

Anyone else think the Unicorn Frap tastes like Trash???

I’m actually kinda pissed I spent money on that. Like, the first part wasn’t any actual flavor but straight up sugar. Hoping to make the beverage drinkable you stir it up to get the (weak) color change and tartness. Then it becomes Spoiled Milk-That-You-Poured-Sugar-Into-To Try-To-Save-It  ™ flavor. Mmm, my favorite. Not. The whip cream on top can’t even save it now, because its sprinkled with more of that insane tart sugar. No thanks. I Figured Out How To Mod Hearthstone.

The divine shield protects your minions from the 4/4 Nerubians and in the second one you obviously don't have many cards due to the low mana costs and divine shield once again, saving your minions lives!

Plan B?

Mirage is not doing well. I mean, honestly, he's doing better than he was a week ago but the problems he has aren't exactly clearing up. My boy is colored down really intensely, his fins are still in crappy shape, and even though he's eating and swimming as normal, I still see white fungus(?) stuff on his fins. I do water changes every other day and treat with Artemiss and another anti-fin rot medicine I was given... but while it's not getting worse, it also... Hasn't gotten better, either, and that's what's bugging me. Fins should grow back a lot faster than this. He should be showing at least minor signs of improvement if nothing is wrong. So I kinda have to assume something is wrong. Problem 1: no adjustable heater. Problem 2: no test kit. I must solve those problems. What I'm gonna do is re-make the Fluval Spec V. It's currently completely empty. Mirage is in a different 5-gal hospital tank but it's got a HOB filter that I think is honestly not as good as the Fluval one (it's certainly louder!) I can't even use most filter cartridges because carbon and fish meds don't mix. I'm gonna plant and scape the Spec, cycle the Spec, get an adjustable heater and get a real test kit. I kinda have to save up for those because the test kits can be pricey, but I should have the heater by next week! I just got some funky wood for the tank (my aquascaping weakness) and I am looking forward to trying to grow java moss again (now that I've researched how to do that). I'm going to be out of town for about 10 weeks for work, but I'm going to leave my bf in charge of the tank, I think. The goal is to get a stable environment that doesn't suffer from temperature fluctuations or any other issues and has live plants (if I can keep them alive). My hope is that in a clean, stable, planted environment, recovery will be easier for him. If he doesn't make it, if course I'll be sad, but I can't say I didn't try my very hardest to keep things going.

do i have to went through with computer vision , correct rephrasing : CAN I build things with opencv, with potato PC right and equally potato laptop , i havent code anything meaningful like in almost 2 years ?

tried to build a simple contour detection program in c# but the emgu library cannot wrap from opencv dll, so they cannot initialize anything 

i lost my sleep setting up lib, i gave up upon realizing that my 64 bit machine apparently HATES C# external libraries

i really dont understand if is it because of the visual studio ,because vc# is 32 bit tho ,i have set project properties to any cpu , and the libraries are also ?!! i ended up moving on to build this in java and i just realized today that my potato pc/laptop cant really handle android studio + opencv heavyweight
