NALC Branch 79 Rallies to “Fight Like Hell” in Seattle, WA
On March 23rd, NALC Branch 79 held their Branch’s Fight Like Hell rally against the Trump Administration’s attacks on the NALC.
The NALC has organized over 250 Fight Like Hell rallies across the country, all protesting against multiple threats to the union, including Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” DOGE planning to lay off ten thousand workers, and the Trump Administration’s ambitions to privatize the USPS.
A privatized USPS would create a myriad of problems for both the American people and Letter Carriers. Currently, the USPS is under the jurisdiction of Congress, which is held accountable by representatives elected by the American people. A privatized USPS would only be held responsible to private shareholders, who will most definitely reel back services in both rural and low-service areas, areas that need the USPS the most. In Seattle, a privatized USPS would mean higher shipping prices, an issue that would only contribute to Seattle’s high cost of living compared to other cities.
After speeches and remarks from representatives of multiple labor unions, the NALC Branch 79 rally attendees, both letter carriers and NALC supporters in the hundreds, marched around Westwood Center in West Seattle in the cold, dreary Seattle weather, with a resounding message:
THE US MAIL IS NOT FOR SALE!

I just joined the National Association of Letter Carriers, and getting a firm handshake and “welcome, brother” from the branch president provided a kind of gender euphoria only previously visible to shrimp

With all the strikes happening... I'm proud to be the granddaughter of teamster, the daughter of an NALC member (even tho we don't talk), and slight possibility that my great grandfather was in a steel union. Tried to organize when I worked at amazon but that was a nightmare. I stood beside workers for a healthcare institution, beside striking local planned Parenthood practitioners, support the local Starbucks strikes, and stand with the news paper strikes here... And obviously I stand with SAG-AFTRA. Solidarity. Workers of the world unite.

More specifically with the Postal Service- the government is trying to privatize the service. This would destroy the unions in the USPS and their benefits. Mailmen and women across the US are rallying against this but things are looking tough with the Postmaster General being forced out earlier than expected.
Not only would privatizing the USPS hurt the workers, but it would also hurt the people who need the mail. If privatized, receiving and delivering your mail could become far more expensive, or worse, may mean you no longer get the mail you need. The USPS is special because they offer their services regardless of how far or where you're located (ex: in rural areas). Even if the USPS may seem to be inefficient, they're the ones that are actually required to deliver to anywhere within the US without an additional cost. It may seem smart now, but it will only lead to destruction in the long run.
How you can help the USPS!
Contact your local Congressmen/women about the issue! Find out who your Congressman/woman is here.
Donate to the NALC here! This one is a political fund where the union then donates to politicians who support their cause. This is a non-partisan fund.
Check the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) site for news as well! The postal service is incredibly important and should be fought for!

I've said this before but I recommend following the NALC twitter to learn how we're all inches from death if not for our neighborhood mail carrier noticing something amiss while on their appointed route.

New tentative agreement for mail carriers is a disgrace
I'm a mail carrier for the USPS. Today, after more than 600 days of negotiations and more than 500 days of being out of contract, our union president announced our tentative agreement. [It's a fucking disgrace.](https://www.nalc.org/news/nalc-updates/body/Summary-of-2023-Tentative-Agreement.pdf?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAabg3eRkti_wgqVJecFjuxu5-a0Fy2CJ6CBPfmFK0JiXkNHWbglLO1r9TFI_aem_vEwSMOQsiZCwuodW7-s7FA)
To summarize:
* Our raises for 2023, 2024, and 2025 are 1.3% for each year
* The two-tier system that was put in place in 2013 by federal arbitration is being "eliminated" by...... everyone being moved to the shittier tier
* Our non-career workforce, a position called City Carrier Assistant who have worse pay, worse benefits, and fewer workplace protections, are being re-entrenched as a fundamental part of the service.
All this for a few hundred dollars in (prorated) COLAs.
There's going to be a movement for a No vote on the TA so that we can go to federal arbitration and get something better than this wet piece of toilet paper, please look out for ways to support mail carriers!

Anyway Lance just sitting with his clone and they all have matching bitchy expressions that make even Fernando uncomfortable sksk

That last point is hugely important to remember. Every day, all across the country, UPS, Fedex, Amazon, and other private parcel services send trucks to Post Offices full of packages that their computer system has determined it wouldn't be profitable to deliver themselves. That's why sometimes your package comes in the truck you weren't expecting to drop it off.
It's not just a rural phenomenon either, this happens in cities. Every single day, the private sector gives up on millions of paying customers and hands their packages off to the Postal Service because postal workers visit Every Door Every Day.

#this blog proudly supports the USPS NALC NRLCA APWU NPMHU and AFSCME#i hope that's everyone but there may be other unions in other cities i don't know about#if i missed you i am sorry and you included in the sentiment if not the text of the above#go usps

Fun fact: Cain has heterochromia, which is extremely common in Catahoulas. His left eye is brown and his right eye is blue, or as we call it in the NALC breeder scene, "glass."
Attached below is a photo of my catahoula, Cain. He has partial heterochromia in one of his eyes. We call this "brown with a glass crack" on his papers!
